This game was fun one rip and tearing them up one few/many shots at a time. I did have fun but there are stuff that failed to live up to a much greater fun factor then the game could of given. As I saw protentional for it to be better time then it was.
First am going to talk about why I went to easy then staying on normal. Well first off for something described as not hard or very hard it sure feels like hard, mainly cause there just isn't lot of ammo around to handle what you face though the levels. Unless your aim is like CS pro levels of snapping to make every bullet count.
But another reason is the 3rd boss I was softlocked there just was never enough ammo that I hadn't left laying around the level enough to defeat this boss, could only ever get say about 44% of the health bar before I was empty. And there is pretty much hardly any way to dodge their attacks, it's one of those bosses that requires you to do lot of damage quick to beat otherwise your just going to die. And so I decided enough going to lower the difficulty.
And that leads me to saying there is no on the fly switching. If you want to change you have to start all over again to even play another difficulty. So from me beating the game yeah I totally recommend playing it on easy at least for your first play, your going to have better time that way and as rated its not too easy yet not too hard to beat the game, something I expected normal setting to already be like but as told wasn't.
But no matter you select there are enemies seem too bullet spongey then they needed to be, like is more bullets even doing anything was a lingering thought when first coming across new ones and that's no good if the player has doubts they even doing anything. Poor game design would of helped if they flinch or something. I mean the bats with the bombs that should be one hit if I aim at the bomb but no have to put like 6 shots.
And yet another problem I faced of the game that more annoyed me the most in the whole game for a while was every time you save the game the ui is rubbish to do its job well. In fact every time I didn't want it to do it, it would save in slot 6, rather then slot 1. So at some point I gave up and decided fine the game keeps want to save on slot 6, so be it then. But yeah if you play this just save it on slot 6, you can thank me later.
And lastly the story/voice acting its one of those its so bad its good, cause yeah it made me laugh at how edge lord it tries to come across. It was likely helped by the bad mic quality/effects applied to it. But yeah I couldn't fully care for the story, it wanted to tell as I could hardly take it seriously as it wanted to be. It really comes across as as I was listening to a reddit mod trying to seem badass like.
But spite that as said it was a fun game to play through. Would recommend to boomer shooter enjoyers. Just don't expect overall greatness cause as already gone over there are things that let it down. And perhaps doesn't help I've played much better of this genre before this too.

Recomendo jogar no Hard ou superior para ter a verdadeira experiência desse jogo. O design é muito bem pensado! Todas as armas têm seus momentos, mas você vai ter que trocar constantemente para conseguir sobreviver. Nada de usar uma arma o jogo inteiro.
Os monstros são muito divertidos e funcionam muito bem com o estilo do jogo. Vida, nas dificuldades mais altas, é escassa, fazendo com que a exploração por segredos (que podem conter preciosos itens de cura) seja essencial.
Os gráficos são propositalmente nostálgicos. Muito bonitos, mas simples. A história, mesmo sendo interessante, existe apenas para contextualizar. Nada de 60 horas de filminhos da SONY. O foco do jogo é, bem, jogar... nisso ele acerta em cheio.
Resumindo: é um jogo para quem cresceu com boomer shooters. É pura violência frenética, sem filminhos para atrapalhar. Um trabalho impressionante para um desenvolvedor solo!

The guns feel weak and awkward to use, swinging the sword feels like swinging a wet noodle, the pistols feel extremely weak and require so much ammo to bring down what feels like the weakest of mobs, the shotguns are a bit more effective but ammo is scarce. The movement starts by feeling fast, but you quickly find that you're not that fast after all. I like the art style to some extent, and I plan to return to this game at some point, but there are much better games in this genre that everyone can get instead.
Frantic! Mayhem! Chaos! If your trigger finger is twitching for a Dusk/DOOM blaster, you could do a lot worse than this! The graphics are suitably weird with lovely blood splatters aplenty and even the option to change the filter like a C64, old TV or pixelate as far as you want. It's fast, fluent, has great upgrades and weapons and you have a bullet time mode which makes the carnage so more satisfying! It can be hard as nails, but not impossible as if you persevere, great rewards are given. It also has a thumping metal soundtrack that adds to the adrenaline filled adventure! And I'm only on level 3!
great quake style boomer shooter. Smooth gameplay. Good soundtrack. Cool visuals. Fun level design. A lot of perks are obtained via collecting secrets along side a secret ending so it provides actual motivation to seek them out.
This game comes pretty close to being enjoyable but doesn't quite hit the mark.
The worst thing about this game is its awful weapon slot system.
Each gun is placed in a category that can be selected by pressing 1, 2, 3 etc. The single and double-barrel shotgun belong to 3. Let's say you use single-barrel by hitting 3 and then switch to pistols. But then a close-range high HP enemy closes in on you, and you are in urgent need of the double-barrel. By pressing 3, the selects the single-barrel because it remembers which weapon in the slot was last used. This is incredibly frustrating.
Games like Doom allow you to map single and double-barrel to keys of your choosing so you can select them as you wish without having to deal with this toggle nonsense.
The worst part is that alt-fire just switches the weapons. They could've just had a feature where alt-fire for the pistols fires automatic and primary fire does semi-automatic fire instead of swapping between pistols and machine pistols. Same thing with the shotguns, alt fire could've easily been the ability to fire both barrels.
At the least. This could have been something like Half-Life's weapon selection system at least, where hitting 3 once is guaranteed to select the SMG and hitting 3 twice is guaranteed to select the shotgun. But because the game remembers what you used last, you end up selecting the wrong weapon in the wrong situation. In a genre that is known for quick weapon swapping, this whole thing is a total dealbreaker.
If this one weapon selection thing is fixed, the game might actually go from unplayable garbage to completely worth it.
This game feels bad to play. You're just slow enough for it to be annoying, movement feels clunky as your guy will stand on and be stopped by the smallest portrusions on walls and doors (some doors are too small to just run though you need to crouch for some reason). There are often parts where you need to jump over a gap using the dash multiple times in a row so you're left just waiting for the cooldown between jumps. THERE IS ONE (1) SONG IT'S DRIVING ME INSANE??? Maybe there are more songs but I've played for 90 minutes and it's been the SAME SONG ON LOOP. STOP.
Peguei na promoção por 12 reais, e por esse preço vale super a pena, acredito que mesmo pagando mais, ainda valeria. Ele é um daqueles jogos que eu coloco uma musica e jogo quando quero relaxar ou passar o tempo, ele cumpre bem essa função. Além de ter boas mecânicas, essa estética de jogo mais antigo. Um excelente jogo indie, para quem curte o gênero, vai se amarrar.

I really don't want to be too negative here, this is largely the work of an individual, and is for the most part a work of love for the genre, and that part of it, I really like about Dread Templar. The endless references to other games, the maps inspired by those references, it's all very nice.
The problems begin with the game marketi-- well, presenting itself as a fast-paced shooter, and this is definitely not that. The first levels do trick you into believing it can be, by the 2nd episode you’ll realize what this game really feels like – not Quake, but Serious Sam – and that’s not a good thing. Sure the game can strafe faster than most FPS, but the maps are far too big, so the movement feels slow, mixed with not being able to jump-strafe into added momentum, the levels filled with too many spongy enemies, so it becomes a slog: trigger enemies, run back, kill them all with the ammo vanishing into their tankiness, rinse and repeat. I still can’t believe I’ve only played this for 7 hours, it felt like 40+ hours.
The level design is a bit weak, much like Serious Sam part 2, so the developer felt the (righteous) need to add to the triggers pseudo-cutscenes to indicate which door opened – this is an admission that the level design in and of itself isn’t strong enough to indicate your next movement, and especially on the explicitly Serious Sam inspired episode, good lord is it intricate, confusing and not clear at all. But I do love the references created in the maps, those are good, and there are some really nice visuals and gimmicks here, they are so good some of them make the game a worthy experience.
The music is fine, given the resources at hand, it just blasts a bit too much, it’s like an endless Slam track always hitting you in the head, it desperately needs slower moments that ramp up when enemies spawn.
There are also too many guns, side areas, and the powerups don’t really make the game better. I’d prefer 1/3 of the guns, but them being a lot more powerful. There is also a ludo-narrative dissonance with the pistols, given how useless they really are, I mean it’s a game, make them more powerful so they can still be viable weapons all the way to the end of the game.
The story is shockingly fine for it being written in a napkin. Now, here’s the thing, if you love Serious Sam, and like the other games this references (Blood being a strong aesthetic influence, but I feel the creator didn’t quite get it) you’re bound to love it. If in the other hand, you’re like me, and really don’t like the punishing arenas of Serious Sam, maybe don’t bother with Dread Templar.

I really tried to give this game a chance, but it was such a chore. Maybe its because I play with a controller. I could see the combat being more responsive and playable with a mouse, but with a controller, this game sux. I usually don't like to write such negative reviews but f* this was terrible.
I seriously wonder if they just added controller support as an after thought. It just feels so hastily and sloppily slapped together, like a cheap attempt to help push a few more copies.
Everything about this game feels... so amateur.
I've played plenty of boomer shoots and never had any issues (sprawl, boltgun, forgive me father) to name a few.
I feel like the dev(s) understand what makes a good boomer shooter but fumbled on execution.

Si te gustan los “boomer shooters”, aquí vienes a lo que vienes: disparar primero, preguntar nunca.
La primera impresión es clara: esto no intenta caerte bien; intenta que juegues agresivo. Y cuando un juego te exige manos rápidas y decisiones instantáneas, o lo amas… o lo desinstalas con una excusa sobre “mareos”.

Dread Templar es un recordatorio incómodo (y feliz) de que no necesitas cien sistemas para divertirte: necesitas buen ritmo, armas con carácter, y enemigos que exploten de forma convincente. Es un indie de Acción que entiende su ADN noventero y lo actualiza con detalles modernos como cámara lenta y soporte completo de mando.
Ahora, lo controversial: el juego no te va a perseguir para que lo juegues. Con 2 jugadores activos en este momento, la “plaza pública” está desierta, pero eso no invalida lo importante: 1031 recomendaciones totales indican que, cuando alguien entra, suele salir satisfecho… o traumado, pero satisfecho.
Si te gustan los shooters retro, violentos y de ritmo rápido, esto es una compra con intención. Si necesitas que el juego te lleve de la mano, aquí la mano que te dan es la del demonio… y viene a cobrar.

Consigliato per chi ha voglia di farsi due spari e nient'altro; molto semplice nelle sue classiche meccaniche da boomer shooter, carine le rune da poter applicare alle varie armi che permettono delle volte di farle addirittura trasformare in armi demoniache. Nel complesso si fa giocare anche se alcuni livelli li ho trovati abbastanza noiosi visivamente. Durata di gioco discreta a meno che non si vogliano trovare tutti i segreti.

- Анимация дробовик, боже, как же ужасно, принесите Визин.

- Да чего, дерьмецовый звук выстрелов у двух узишек это как будто. 200 глушителей на узи и комната с максимальной изоляцией звуков, ну примерно как-то так это можно описать.
- Импактом даже не пахнет, расчленёнка слабейшая.
- Мобы пародия на гоблинов альбиносов из квейка.
- Сохраняться можно только в определённых местах с помощью каких-то кристаллов. Ф6, ф5, видимо, уже не в моде.

Очередной второсортный кал, не стоящий абсолютно никакого внимания. Ну и, кстати, эти помои чем-то даже похожи на такой высер, как Dusk.

Great game, awesome soundtrack. The bugs that inflict slow on you from E3M1 onward are really lame though.
Note: I played on hard.
7.2 hours: bottomless pits are placed more and more as I progress through episodes. This isn't fun.
8.7 hours: The hellhounds/firebugs on E4 seem to be protected from a certain kind of damage? It feels quite random.
12.1 hours: at the end, seems like the levels consist of mobs being crammed in. It's a bit annoying. The final boss was suitably epic though.
Has the ingredients for a good boomer shooter. The combat could work. Movement feels good, controls are tight and responsive. But in practice, the combat is an absolute SLOG. Every enemy is a bullet sponge, so weapons feel weak. Ammo is always running low. Whenever you find a weapon modifier that feels powerful and nice, it drains ammo like crazy, making it highly situational at best. Level design is ok, a tad bit repetitive. Graphics are fine, though the game lacks a distinct visual identity. There are way too many great boomer shooters around to recommend this one. Go play DUSK.
Crimson and violet energies howl around me as I dash into the shattered town square. My heart sings at the metallic echo of my revolver’s blasts ruining armoured demons into wet gibs. A throw later, a lightning trap paralyses an advancing gaggle of eldritch horror. My rocket launcher silences them decisively.
But there’s no time to celebrate; Necromancers ahead are already summoning their purple-hued minions. I swap to my Black Bow, a quiet companion to my roaring friends. The string is pulled taut. My eyes don’t need to trail the shots; the reticule glows orange – each bodkin a headshot.
It is in this hunter’s haze, amidst frozen glaciers skewered by wrecked ships, and villages smothered by baleful green fires, where Dread Templar offers blood-soaked peaks.
But it also throws me down to its muck-ridden valleys just as eagerly.
Dread Templar is a shooter whose volleys are of equal satisfaction and disappointment. Developed by T-19 Games, it’s a game of irritating lows and fascinating highs. I wish I liked it more. I wish it could’ve been [i] more [/i].
Dread Templar’s soul is Quake, but its heart is Doom Eternal. Its levels are a miasma of castles sunken in cosmic horror and industry plants powered by malevolent magic. You dash through them relentlessly, and your foes are just as fast. Combat is speed mixed with a clever synergy of your vast arsenal and target prioritisation. Fights are to be ended quickly, with wounds that bear marks of your prowess.
And the game’s menagerie [i] will [/i] challenge you. Like in Eternal, not much mercy or leeway is to be found here; long-range enemies are almost hit-scanners, accompanied by melee counterparts that rush at you when close, sometimes slowing you with ice attacks. My favourite is a gargantuan creature of purple pustules functioning as long-range artillery. However, long distance [i] is [/i] your only way of destroying it; get too close, and its flung orbs will explode immediately, killing you on the spot.
It’s a shame, then, that such a thoughtful, complex bestiary is hobbled by the game’s poor hit detection. It’s too minimal; the playable character only does a grunt, which is barely audible in the cacophony of its skirmishes. Grenade blasts feel like nothing, and enemies can pry you open from behind without you registering their first, or even second, flurry of attacks.
As enemies are considerable, so are your exorcist’s tools. A shotgun accompanied by its double-barrelled cousin, a Bow of renewable ammunition, a lightning trap launcher, an infernal revolver with the coolest sound design I’ve ever heard. The game’s ultimate weapon is extra hilarious – an armoured, Demonic gauntlet whose punches function as coned BFG blasts. [i] Love [/i] its Devil May Cry energy.
And then there’s Dread Templar’s mechanical spice, the Perks. Obtained by completing maps and discovering secrets, they boost stats and can shake up the entire game. You can upgrade your single shotgun into an ice-blasting machine, each slug slowing down enemies. Your revolver can shoot three bullets at a time. Your UZIs can morph into chainguns chewing through monsters as much as your ammunition. Build variety and experimentation are encouraged here, and I’ve been genuinely impressed how all FPS player types are well-accommodated. From melee to more mixed, Dread Templar can be replayed several times, each playthrough a starkly different experience depending on your kit.
However, Dread Templar could’ve been tighter and more focused with its weapons. Doom Eternal is incredible because every weapon has its value and target priority throughout its entirety. I can’t say the same for Dread Templar. As early as its middle third, guns like the super shotgun (shockingly) phase out of use. The 3-rocket launcher is just fundamentally better than the singular rocket variant. The double pistols are… kind of there? And once you get the chaingun upgrade for your UZI’s, you will [i] never [/i] drop that Ultimate Perk.
Thematically, they also feel a bit cobbled together. You are a crusader forced to chase after Hell and cosmic horror alike. But the dual katanas, the UZI’s, and the Black Bow don’t engender that feel, especially when compared to your infernal tools.
The game’s valleys deepen in its level design. Of the FPS’ I played, it has the weakest Episode 1 I’ve experienced. Boring, rusted Quake corridors of a two-parter prison level culminating in a hellish spider nest that has no connective tissue in-between. Unremarkable environmental design of no proper, thematic cohesion.
And after that disappointing introduction, it hits me with Episodes 2 and 3. I LOVED 2’s narrative progression from ancient crypts misted by purplish pink, haunted souls, to an industrial plant processing them into horrific creatures.
Episode 3, however, is peak. Its titanic glaciers encase wrecked pirate ships, in which arachnid horrors of ice and John Carpenter’s pedigree await. The creature design is wonderfully morbid, and the environmental design is full of breathtaking vistas and patiently-threaded surprises.
It stuns me, then, that Dread Templar’s Episode 1 is so dull in comparison. For FPS games, beginnings are vital first impressions, and I do wonder how many have stopped after Episode 1, never seeing the brilliance T-19 expresses in Episodes 2 and 3.
Bosses are the weakest feature of Dread Templar. There’s 6 of them, which is quite bountiful for its genre. However, only 2 of them stand out – the rest are “circle strafe around their boring area of effect attacks until they’re dead, or use the Boss Killer Gauntlet Perk.” Episode 2 has the best boss fights; Gormamu is a heart-racing bullet hell, and the Hell Knight is [i] the [/i] best fight in the game. His arena is floating above a blistering ocean of souls, accessible by an elevated portal around which an entire army of creatures await. The boss himself is an Elden Ring-esque duel of stylish, frighteningly fast attacks and spectacular visual effects, where patience rewards you with well-timed ripostes.
Ultimately, I’m tempered by the knowledge that Dread Templar is T-19’s first ever contribution to FPS’. It may have visible lows, but it still deserves praise and a cautious recommendation for some of its wonderful level design and great combat. Whenever the developer loads up their shotgun again for another shooter project, you can certainly consider me excited for what it will be!
Really smooth gameplay, love the weapon feel & atmosphere, phenomenal soundtrack. Though I do wish there were more ambient tracks while in-between fighting/solving puzzles to give my ears a bit of a break from the heavier stuff, gets a little fatiguing by the end of a level, having heard the same track 15x. Still nothing but absolute bangers though.
Skill/perk system needs a little bit more attention as it's a little too simple for my taste, especially for how many options of runes there are. Level select menu should display completion stats, like time, secrets discovered and runes obtained. Just some QoL features would be nice
I don't want secrets to ever have permanent upgrades. Higher difficulties, in addition to their good changes, make enemies obnoxiously tanky for no reason.
It is a fast, old school boomer shooter that grabs you from the first minute and never slows down. Movement is quick and aggressive, the guns feel great, and the visuals are dark, brutal, and sometimes surprisingly beautiful. The soundtrack fits perfectly too, a punchy mix of metal and electronic music that keeps the momentum going.
What I really like is that the game is not just "retro for the sake of it". The rune modifier system adds a lot of depth, and runes can synergize with each other. Some upgrades are simple but useful, like moving faster or carrying more revolver ammo, while others can completely change how a weapon works, for example turning a stun trap into a stationary turret. Combined with alternative fire modes, this creates a surprisingly rich and varied arsenal and makes experimenting genuinely fun.
Level design is another highlight. There are tons of secrets, and they are actually interesting to hunt. On top of the standard hidden rooms, there are "super secrets" that require solving small puzzles, and even a "mega secret" that asks you to collect torn book pages throughout the whole game. It strongly pushes the exploration vibe, without ever feeling like a chore. I also almost never got lost, which is rare and valuable. The maps are easy to read, and the game often reduces backtracking by giving you shortcuts that bring you back closer to the doors or switches you just unlocked.
Gameplay wise, the protagonist feels like Serious Sam in terms of speed, maybe even faster, but with a big difference: you fight fewer enemies at once, and they are much tankier. Where Sam fights 100 enemies, the Templar fights 5. I understand this is tied to performance and level design, but it is probably my only real downside: sometimes it gets a bit tiring to slowly chew through these thick enemies, and then constantly hunt for missing ammo. You want to keep smashing forward, but instead you end up remembering where you left ammo so you can backtrack after the fight.
If you are aiming for all achievements, you will need at least two playthroughs. Finishing the game on "Nightmare" does not automatically unlock the achievement for "Hell" difficulty, which feels like an oversight. I also ran into Steam achievement tracking issues twice, but both times the fix was the same: quit the game after unlocking the achievement, launch it again, and start a level, then it registers correctly.
Overall, it is a great brutal boomer shooter with smart modern touches, excellent exploration, and a really fun secret system.

I liked Dread Templar a lot more than I thought I would. It's one of the better boomer shooters I've played, and does enough to set itself apart from a majority of genre entries. The art direction is distinct going for this dark gothic look and feel. I love a lot of the level ideas and where the protagonist's journey leads to. You blast your way through frosty fields, pyramid tombs, ghost pirate shipyards, the depths of hell, a magical otherworldly library, and of course hell. All of the guns are fun to use, and the Max Payne esque bullet-time mechanic allows dealing with large hordes to be more managable. The game is a fun one man army shooter, and for a lot of people that's good. For me it's a solid 8.5/10 game to recommend.
However, it is understandable why it's not one of the more well beloved indie boomer shooters out there. I do not understand how anyone can beat this game under normal means. With how many enemies are trying to rush you at once, and multiple kinds of particles being launched at you. Some enemies are more annoying than others like the small flying enemies you must perfectly land shots on, or some foes in chapter three being able to slow you down opening the player up for easy free hits. The music ranging from being decent to some of the most annoying soundtracks you'll ever here. It's really "in your face" if you understand what that means. If not that then there's a lot of things this game does to prove that it's metal. Like having a angsty protagonist seeking revenge and delivers deep tone dark monologue between every chapter. A lot of people are gonna gloss over this game's sore page, see it as an edgelord game, and buy one of the other indie boomer shooters out there. Which is a shame, because this game is fun and well made for the most part. I even think it has a better exploration based upgrade system than Prodeus, and that game is pretty awesome itself. Dread Templar is worth your time reader.

I was pleasantly surprised by the smooth game experience this shooter gives. Excellent pacing, shooting, the need to apply different weapons to different enemies to get the most efficient outcome, all was great. Also, a great amount of awesome easter eggs for those who know. The only thing that can be argued with is the complexity of some super secrets that cannot be discovered without the guide. An amazing, intense metal soundtrack that you can easily listen to on its own. The game feels like the Blood sequel made on the Quake engine. Highly recommend to fans of those games.

Nothing in this game does exactly what you think it should. That bullets going a certain speed? No its slower and yet faster than you think. The maual save stations just waste time with how freaquent they are... what does that add but slowing the game down

The only real downside for me is the UI; it feels a bit too simple and somewhat counterintuitive, and that’s honestly the one thing I’d change.
Other than that, I had an absolute time. The game is incredibly fun, and that says a lot coming from someone who’s been playing titles like DOOM: The Dark Ages and other similar games. Despite that, this ended up being the one I enjoyed the most.

Pelo preço que paguei, é justo, 11 reais na promoção pelo conteúdo apresentado está ótimo. Dread Templar é o meu tipo de jogo favorito no momento e é muito bom de ter ele na prateleira dos FPS.
Seus pontos positivos estão focados bem mais no balanceamento. Ele é justo, inimigos são suficientemente fortes e a quantidade de recursos como vida, munições e poderes é equilibrado pra não quebrar a dificuldade.
Entretanto, o jogo parece incompleto, as texturas parecem deslocadas e até mesmo não fazer sentido com o cenário. Os inimigos e armas são bem poucos, único destaque para as armas do tipo infernais e arremesso das katanas. A história parece um rascunho, não aparenta ter sido o ponto forte da produção, fizeram um jogo e criaram uma história depois para que fizesse sentido a motivação do personagem matar tantos demônios.
Em resumo, compre na promoção, isso não vale 60 reais nunca, comprei por 11 reais e acredito que esse sim seja um preço justo por 9 horas totais desse jogo sem pegar os segredos ou todos os upgrades.

Dread Templar is amazing. This game stands tall among many great examples of old school fps gems on this platform. i wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who has ever enjoyed a doom or quake game or any similar thing. From the music to the sounds and feel of the guns and other weapons they nailed it. Enemy variation and the blazing fast pace of gameplay are immensely satisfying. This game also has strong level design and the aesthetic is really cool. There is no story to speak of but if you want story I think you are in the wrong genre of games.
As much as I enjoyed progressing through the initial chapters, once I discovered that cheats were available, God Mode - ON and cackling power fantasy followed. Otherwise, my lack of patience from subpar gaming skills would not allow me to complete this.
And, I am glad I did. Fun gameplay, great soundtrack, and great level design that got quite a bit chaotic and confusing in the later chapters but still fun to gun-and-run around (pirates on TOP!).

This is a surprisingly good and fun old-school boomer shooter. I really like how it delivers an experience of a typical fps from late 90s while neatly adding some of the modern gameplay mechanics but still retaining that old-school feel. Even though it's not exactly perfect it's a really good game.
Those features include various perks which can affect your character and weapons, and a dash movement mechanic. The perks can imensely power you up and are found scattered around the levels, while majority of them are hidden behind secrets.
Speaking of secrets, there is A LOT of them, so if you like secret hunting this game will be an absolute delight for you. At first I feared it'll feel tacky to have so much of them and searching will get boring real quick, but thankfully all of them are hidden in neat ways and you always feel rewarded for paying attention to the levels' details and looking for various patterns in things which most people would just ignore. Not everyone will like that, but if you're into this as much as I'am you'll love it. There is also such thing as "Super secrets" which are a bit more elaborate secretes and may take a few more steps than usual to discover, usually involving some kinds of "puzzles". The ones I found definetely felt cool and rewarding so I liked this feature a lot.
Level design is pretty decent overall, I'd say though while playing through the first chapter a lot of the level geometry felt small, corridor-ey, was awkward to move around, and had iffy navigation. However I liked the combat so I continued playing and thankfully the quality of level design improves exponentially the further you move through the campaign. Starting approximately from the middle of the campaign the levels open up a lot and it's not rare to find yourself traversing through big open spaces with some cool looking vistas.
The levels also feel quite athmospheric. Even though the game has no focus on the story, mostly combat, it does a good job immersing you into it's world with pure aesthetics and environmental story telling. My favorite one was the sailing ship graveyard with ghosts inhabiting it, the vibe was amazing.
The combat is everything you'd expect from a typical boomer shooter, but executed rather nicely. Yes technically you just shoot stuff, but the vast weapon arsenal provides various types of attacks which can be suited towards different groups of enemies and fighting distances, thus emerges the need for quick switching between them and thinking about which weapon would be best for your current situation to maximize the efficiency of shooting stuff. There are also perks which can alter the mechanics of some of your weapons, which feels refreshing when you start to get bored of using the same weapons for a long time. Even though the game's pacing is overal good and it introduces new weapons at a steady pace so you never really get bored.
There is also a slow-motion mechanic, but I'll be honest I can count the amount of times I've used it with my fingers on one hand. Thankfully the game doesn't force it on you and you can complete the whole game without using it.
Now the downsides.
The game definitely lacks some polish. There is also a few bugs which are a bit annoying, but thankfully nothing game-braking.
The music is well made and suits the game well, but unfortunately I had to turn it off since there is only a single track for each level which plays on repeat, and it's usually agressive combat.
Unfortunately if you turn off the music, you notice the serious lack of ambience and the very basic sound design, which breakes the immersion quite a lot. The whole game kind of starts to sound bad, the music almost feels like a cover-up for the mediocre sound design. So you either endure the music, or put up with soulless sound design.
I feel like the game could benefit A LOT from having a bit more variety in music pieces and focus it more on ambience to drive the immersion factor more, and save up the hype metal rip'n'tear type beats (which what most of the music in the game is) just for combat and use those sparingly.
Varying the weapon and monsters sound design will be great too, since all of those use a single sample for most things, that especially becomes noticeable when you have music disabled and hearing the exact same samples starts to drive you insane real quick.
The boss battles are also super meh, even though they aren't completely terrible I rushed through most of them and was just glad they're pretty easy so I can enjoy the usual gameplay and not waste my time.
Overall a really fun game and if you're looking for a decent boomer shooter where you can just shoot stuff and relax I can definitely recommend this. Just be aware of the slight lack of polish, although the game was made by a singular person from China so I personnaly can excuse most of the bad stuff since they succeeded at providing the good stuff (i only mention they're from China this since this is definitely not the kind of game you'd expect someone from China to make lol).

This is a weird review to write because the game isn't horrible its just not balanced well. Bullet sponge enemies mixed with lack luster weapons really hurt the games flow. I would not recommend this game to anyone that wasn't a die hard fan of the boomer shooter genre.
Like most boomer shooters there is a heavy emphasis on movement however the game specializes in forcing you into tight corridors or into fighting around edges and holes, artificially increasing the difficulty of the game in ways that simply aren't fun. If that isn't annoying enough all the enemies in the game are bullet sponges (the weakest enemy in the game takes 2 shots for the shotgun to kill) this is extra annoying later in the game when there are enemies that will run at you and stun you in a corner or an enemy that will fly right to you and explode but they take at minimum 2 shots to kill with most of the guns.
The gun selection feels lack luster with none of the weapons really seeming to be all that special. the grenade launcher is the only weapon that really felt like it packed any kind of punch, but it deals so much splash damage to you that you have to be VERY careful about using it not to mention some enemies are just straight up immune to splash damage. You can upgrade the weapons throughout the game but even though you find the runes you still need to get the gems to unlock the ability to use the runes and its a very frustrating system.
All in all its a fun game if you really enjoy boomer shooters but unless you're a hardcore fan of the genre I would stay away from this one just because all the balance issues really make this game more of a slogfest then a fun shooter.

Играю в игру, постоянно не могу понять, а почему продолжаю играть? Думаю, вот в игре музяка крутая, можно и поиграть, и наоборот, геймплей очень приятный и грамотный. И в процессе осознаю, что музыка и геймплей меня настолько заинтересовали, что я просто испытываю интерес к игре. Прохожу на самом высоком уровне сложности. Умирал пока что только из-за элементов платформинга, пытаясь прыгнуть без деша, который был на перезарядке xD
Советую игру, однозначно.

Retro shooter with retro graphics, akin to a more demonic lovechild of Quake 1 I guess. More details, more speed, more blood and the mandatory music to support all that though admittedly the soundtrack seem to only play 1 song per map or something? It can get grating if you listen to it on full volume, especially during platforming.
Christmas sale so if you want to buy it now, one of the possibly best tips I can give a new player is to stick with it a bit. At the beginning I had problems with not having any really precise weapon aside from the powerful but intentionally clunky swordspear... and then I've gotten my hands on the bow and the game suddenly became my oyster.
The thing is it's not a rush them, beat em up, and mutilate them with your super moves, quick reflex and big gun like magnum double barrel shotgun etc.

Weapons are to tight there's no any precise one maybe the inferno revolver but u can't just gun them with it anytime u want cuz there's fewer ammo pounds.
Shooty pumpy shotgun with double barrel shotgun. You'll need that combo with some strong enemies while they're rush you.
Pistols and some ingram/mac's are quite good and you'll be using them always.
That katana is useless to be honest and bow you'll be using too to shoot enemies in the air.
Anyways this game is good but not pleasent as it should be. I did a 2 chapters and I don't want to play it anymore. Like you know I'm tired and not satisfied. This should not be happening in the good game maden.

Неожиданно, но из множества бумер шутеров среднего класса, Тамплиер мне понравился больше всех.
Очень "легковесная" игрушка, приятные передвижения, стрельба (отзывы про слабость пушек я не разделяю), враги будто бы даже в нужных местах расставлены и умирают, подарив эмоцию.
А ещё эта игра подарила мне волшебное воспоминание - за окном снег, на игровом коврике рядом - дочка, а я играю в стрелялку. Ну вот для этой же ностальгии и нужны бумер шутеры!
В общем, в отличие от DUSK тут для меня звёзды сошлись - очень даже нестыдный life spender в образе тотального филлера. Можно, можно ещё вернуться.

The movement, level design, weapons, and art style are all really good.
The problem is so much of the games best weapons and runes (game changing mechanics) are hidden beyond secrets that most players won't ever find unless they use a guide. Just checking the steam achievements shows that most of the secrets are only found by around 4% of players...

i played doom eternal and wanted the same experience, this game got the same adrinaline rush
It's a Quake-like. Neither very original nor very pretty, it's still competent at what it aims to be.
Some levels are quite nice, like the library of E3M4, other very plain and boring, like the desert city of E4M1.
My big grip with it is that weapons modifiers, some of which are actually more like new weapons, are to be found in secrets, some of which are pretty tough to crack. So I had to play with a guide open, which spoiled the fun a bit.
So sure, there are plenty of better options in the boomer shooter genre, but Dread Templar isn't bad, just a bit plain. Which can be okay, as long as you just want a regular old school FPS.
Simple but great boomer shooter. Art style is great. Level design is pretty good, especially the placement of some secrets. There are a lot of easter eggs referencing movies and other games. Some weapons are alright to say the least. The music is fine but it can get repetitive after a while. The story is simple and easy to understand. Overall, if you like retro shooters then this can do well for you.

This is the second boomer shooter I've ever played (other than the original Doom), and I gotta say I was expecting more out of Dread Templar.
There is quite a bit of different weapons and enemies, and the maps are cool to explore (while visually/artistically not that impressive), but I felt like there wasn't really a lot of incentive to switch between the different weapons other than because you had run out of ammo. Maybe it's a skill issue, but it didn't really feel like you needed to change weapons for different scenarios (other than enemy being near/far). Other games of this genre tend to give you reasons to constantly use all the different weapons (be it specific enemy weakness or situational advantage), but that wasn't really present here sadly.
That combined with the basically non-existent story made me drop this game after a couple of hours, because honestly I was not invested at all and I found myself just sprinting through the levels, wanting to be done with the game. A game that rewards exploration like this one should try to keep you invested so you felt the need to really try to find all the secrets and get your arsenal fully upgraded, but it didn't really achieve that from me.
Take this review with a grain of salt as I didn't finish the game and I'm not huge on boomer shooters, but I felt it needed a little bit more "oomph" to keep me hooked. If you enjoy boomer shooters you'll have a decent time with Dread Templar, but I feel like it didn't really innovate much to keep the gameplay interesting.
This is honestly one of the most boring games I’ve ever played. The sound effects are super basic, sometimes even bad. The enemies are all the same and way too easy, and that’s with me playing on medium difficulty. The weapons don’t have anything special about them, the maps feel almost empty, and they always want you to do the exact same stuff—turn something on, turn something off, kill some enemies, and that’s it. There aren’t many moves or mechanics that make the gameplay better or more fun. The story doesn’t even go anywhere. I personally love low-poly games, but this isn’t low-poly—this is just bad graphics.
if I saw person I hate the most in my life—the one I wish nothing good for—I still wouldn’t let him play this game out of mercy.

+得益于符文系统游戏自成一套的武器配合和相当舒服的武器强度平衡

Después de haberle dedicado 40 horas y completarlo en la dificultad más alta (Pesadilla), acá van mis impresiones del juego:
En tanto a la jugabilidad:
- Es un FPS frenético al estilo Quake.
- Los enemigos son bastante variados y cada uno tiene una estrategia distinta para tratar con ellos de manera eficiente. A esto se le suman las distintas arenas de combate por las que vas pasando, las cuales logran que (sumándole la variedad de enemigos) ninguna se sienta idéntica a la anterior.
- En tanto a las armas, vas a encontrar las típicas de un FPS (Lanza-Misiles, Shotgun & SSG, Pistolas dobles, etc.) pero, a esto se le suman las runas de oro que podes equiparles, las cuales hacen que estas cambien o tengan un efecto secundario (Por ejemplo, la SSG puede ser una escopeta que corta a los enemigos, las SMGs pueden ser Miniguns dobles, etc.), me hubiera gustado poder colocarle una mejora a cada arma, en lugar de una sola por grupo de arma. También están las runas de plata que dan mejoras más comunes (Más daño, más munición, etc.).
- Los niveles son bastante largos (podes estar media hora en cada uno) y están repletos de secretos, los cuales te dan vida, armadura, balas y runas. También, en casi todos los niveles hay una zona opcional (que es una zona más complicada) y al completarla te da mejoras; y también hay un súper secreto por nivel (los cuales podes encontrar resolviendo puzzles en los niveles, algunos son algo rebuscados, pero son originales y satisfactorios de descubrir). También, hay un súper easter egg que podes completar a lo largo del juego y te lleva con un jefe secreto. Tal vez, hubiera estado bueno un mapa para ubicarte un poco y ver algunos de los secretos.
- Los jefes son una experiencia agridulce, no son muchos y la mayoría son fáciles de vencer... A excepción de uno que si que es bastante difícil (y me gustó mucho, cuando lleguen sabrán a cual me refiero).
- Una crítica que vi mucho es por el dash, y no puedo estar más de acuerdo: Este al principio tiene un cooldown bastante alto, y si bien podes disminuirlo con las runas que vas obteniendo, en las dificultades más altas lo vas a necesitar (y mucho). Creo que la solución sería que tengas dos dashes (quizás podría ser una runa de oro o estar desde el principio pero con mayor cooldown para cada dash), esto también haría el juego mucho más frenético.
En tanto a los gráficos/Zonas de los niveles:
- El juego tiene un estilo gráfico retro (Como el primer quake original), pero manteniendo el estilo de los FPS más modernos.
- El HUD está bastante bien
- Las zonas de los niveles son varias: Prisiones, cementerios, desiertos, volcanes, lugares congelados o un lugar donde todo está hecho de tripas. Ningún nivel se siente repetido. (Aunque, los últimos niveles son bastante oscuros y no se ve nada, podrían haberle subido un poco más el brillo).
Música:
- La música está bastante bien, cada uno/dos niveles esta cambia y es bastante acorde a cada nivel. A los fanáticos del metal industrial les va a gustar mucho (Pueden encontrar el soundtrack en Spotify)
- Pero, si que el soundtrack se siente bastante repetitivo ya que se repite el mismo tema una y otra vez. Tal vez deberían haber puesto un soundtrack más tranquilo para los momentos de exploración o cuando hay enemigos ligeros, y poner el soundtrack más pesado al llegar a las arenas con más enemigos.
Extras:
- El juego te va contando la historia mientras vas pasando de episodios a través de mini-cinemáticas (que es un texto con imágenes que van pasando). Hubiera estado bueno un par más de estas cinemáticas contando más sobre el protagonista y su energía de templario (O del villano en cuestión).
- El juego también cuenta con un modo de juego extra: "Modo Guardian", en el cual tenes que proteger un cristal durante varias oleadas de enemigos. Está bastante bueno como un extra, donde también vas a poder practicar el combate del juego.
- Podes guardar en distintos puntos que te ofrece el juego, no podes guardar en cualquier lado como en los FPS más retro.
- Me topé con un par de bugs: Enemigos/Proyectiles que atraviesan las paredes; en E3MX si morís y dejas que el tiempo pasé y revivís, el juego crashea, etc. Pero nada que rompa la experiencia a decir verdad.
- Si alguno se le ocurre jugar al modo pesadilla (que está oculto en el tutorial), mucha suerte, ya que el juego casi no te da vida (dependes de la vida que te dan los secretos) y los enemigos hacen MUCHO daño (y tienen más vida). Es bastante retador y una vez que te acostumbras, es un desafío que te va a entretener por un buen rato.
Como conclusión, recomiendo que le den una probada a este juego (si lo consiguen en oferta, mejor). Es un juego bastante solido y entretenido (a pesar de las cositas que mencioné en la review) y la verdad lo disfruté mucho.

Dread Templar est une excellente surprise. Le jeu est rapide, nerveux et incroyablement fun, tout en demandant parfois une vraie réflexion sur quel ennemi éliminer en priorité. Ce mélange d’action frénétique et de stratégie légère rend chaque affrontement unique et satisfaisant.
Mention spéciale à l’OST, qui alterne entre piano métal et cornemuse épique — un mélange inattendu mais qui colle parfaitement à l’ambiance old-school et intense du jeu.
Si vous aimez les FPS à l’ancienne, mais avec un peu plus de tactique et de style, Dread Templar vaut largement le détour.

mr dread templar is pretty strong so even on the highest difficulty you can still 1-2 shot enemies with the right weapons and also i've only been out of ammo for 1 weapon at a time (you have 7 and 2 of them recharge)

Overall I would rate this game positive, for the passion alone mostly, but it has some things that are lacking in my opinion. Firstly, the first few levels really repelled me. Just stone mazes with multiple layers of just the same visuals and enemies. It gets better later on, I wouldn't say much better, but better. Just know that the first few levels are the worst part of the game, at least for me.
What just didn't really do it in this game for me is the lack of enemy variety that really grated on me by the end of the game and the lack of how enemies complement each other. Sometimes there is cool moments where you have to deal with a lot of ranged and melee to juggle in the meanwhile but for the most part it feels like just melee enemies running towards you constantly and you just dealing with them with the same weapons over and over.
Now the great thing is the soundtrack. What surprise bangers this game has. I recommend listening to them even if you don't want to play the game itself. It was the thing keeping me playing until the end.
Overall I would rate this game 6/10. Above average, decent but nothing really groundbreaking. Things move, you shoot the moving things, there is level design (not bad, not great, slightly above average), soundtrack is great. That's about it. Can't say it really disappointed nor impressed me. Still recommend it though to support the passionate indie devs.

Good Stuff

- The gunplay in this one is incredibly solid. Smooth, reactive and accurate. I feel like I didn't always know when a hit connected, but by and large it's a great game to get stuck in with a massive enemy horde and dismantle them one at a time.
- The level designs are so damn good. I mean really, just huge sprawling maps, all very different in tone and design with a mountain of secrets and super secrets to explore, some of them incredibly significant to the gameplay and story. It was a joy to crawl over the whole map to find them and frankly they seemed very needed on the higher difficulty.
- The gun customization adds a lot to the game and can completely change your playstyle. I evntually got an attachment for the trap launcher that turned it into a mini-turret. Completely changed all encounters going forward. Each gun gets one to two transformations that will fully alter how you use them and it's worth constantly experimenting.
- Tons of value for your money, there is so much to see and do and there is even a secret ending where you have to collect a ton of stuff ( apparently I didn't find everything to unlock it). Seems like the devs put a lot of care into this if they're willing to lock an entire ending behind it. Happy hunting!
Bad Stuff

- Ammo is a big issue, even using the ammo capacity upgrades. While it's nice to have to cycle through and get use out of every weapon, it's also ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to have your uzis full, kill 3 enemies and have them empty again.
- The game has less then stellar indicators of when you and the enemy take damage and I've found times where I was certain I dodged a projectile or bomb, finished the fight and only then noticed I was at a sliver of health. Same for the enemies who barely react when hit so it can be hard to tell if your last attack did anything.
- Some levels have very short music loops. Not a huge issue but it does get repetitive after a while of searching for secrets.

Doom'un yan çarı. Doom 90gb olduğu için indirmeye üşenerek bu oyunu alıp indirdim. Çok iyi bir oyun.
This game is aggressively mid. I don't have any complaints as it is very competent, but nothing about it really grabbed me or makes me want to go back to it. If you've played the rest of the shooter revival titles out there and still have that itch that won't go away, I'd recommend seeing your doctor first and maybe trying this game second.
