Heavy Fire: Afghanistan is a rail-on linear shooter that contains 12 missions. It’s a relatively short game (about 2 hours for one playthrough). If you want to earn most of the achievements, you would need to play it twice — first on Normal difficulty and then on Veteran.

It’s a simple game, but overall I enjoyed it.

Do you like "Time Crisis" and "The House of the Dead"? Well, you're better off playing the latter (as the former isn't on STEAM). But if you want to try another shooter on rails, this game delivers (something) - and it's also the sole alternative.
For the story, you are a U.S. marine who "exports democracy" in Afghanistan with bullets and grenades. Regarding stereotypes, in this game everyone with a headcloth is "bad".
It's not the game of your life, but it's priced reasonably and exactly worth what it costs (a coffee). All considered, for me it's a thumbs up. There is also a sequel a little more polished, "Shattered Spear" (if you have to pick one, pick that one instead).

Was having fun in a bad b movie rail shooter kind of way until the final mission which has STUPID checkpoints and the difficulty shoots up to impossible on rookie difficulty. I have rarely seen such a terrible and profound difficulty spike in any game, usually the putrid section of the bad game umbrella. Completely unplayable trash, wouldn't recommend trying to play on veteran because so much of this game is incredibly cheap, the camera is too wobbly and it's often too hard to see the ammo and health pickups because the weird sunlight brightness and swaying camera, oftentimes pickups are a blur and you can't even see them for the most part. Janky and overall pretty bad, got on sale for 87 cents, not going to refund, but the terrible difficulty spike ruined the game for me even though I enjoyed portions of it as "so bad its good". Avoid unless you want to be frustrated.

Time Crisis and Virtua Cop have their place in the history of on-rail shooters. But quite frankly, their home platform versions were so lackluster, that they still kept the limited credits system. That of which basically erased all of your progress, if you lost them all. That's not fun, to say the least. This game effectively fixes that issue, while also adding unlock-able upgrades and a higher difficulty.

+ Simple to pick up.
+ Campaign cooperative.
+ Failed QTEs don't get you killed as far as I can tell.
+ Good replay value. There's a higher difficulty available after finishing the campaign.

- Weapons lack impact.
- Sun rays can sometimes obscure enemies.
- Enemies die in one hit. Meaning, there's not much reason to be precise with your shots, especially when enemies are more accurate on the higher difficulty.

its pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mediocre. and i mean PAINFULLY so. like, it's REALLY sloppy, the story is terrible, i feel uncomfortable shooting just generic sterotypical middle eastern guys while the game waffs on about how it's fine 'cause we're marines and they're rebels. it has dumb but easy quick time events. i mean... it's a rail shooter? i guess?

but also, the last level is a load of BS i can't beat. the main saving grace is i can kill as many US Marines as i want. so thats cool.

[i]Heavy Fire: Afghanistan[/i] isn't a [i]good[/i] game in the traditional sense, but it is weirdly charming in its low-budget Double-A-ness. I've always felt like rail shooters on PC are kind of a moot point since being able to aim with the mouse makes them piss-easy and this game doesn't refute that theory in the slightest, but I wanted something dumb and loud where I could pour bullets into bad guys and I got two-out-of-three from my checklist.

Basically if [i]Call of Duty[/i] is a summer blockbuster, this'd be like the straight-to-video Asylum mockbuster starring Steven Seagal. It's got [i]just enough[/i] budget that it's not an indie game, it has the [i]shape[/i] of its popular contemporaries in the sense that there's military dudes in "gritty" settings constantly yelling and a steady stream of explosions and setpieces, and it offers some degree of that same thrill, but you constantly see the rough edges and limitations.

To start with the good, there is a decent amount of effort into choreographing each level. Since it's on-rails they can get away with being a bit more setpiece driven and they usually have some kind of animation for each area. The cover system is actually somewhat unique for a rail-shooter, I know there are a few arcade games that have cover-pedals but the fact that you sometimes have a choice between multiple cover spots adds a little strategy and having the option at all does take away from one of the big flaws of rail shooters which is that in most games like this you're basically [i]always[/i] open to getting shot. I appreciate the degree of thought and care put into the sightlines of the cover as well and I like that when you duck into cover, there's sometimes still a spot for a bad guy that you need to deal with before you're safe, or in some cases going into cover even [i]reveals[/i] a new bad guy.

While the visuals are are dated even by the standards of when this came out, they're not ugly. The game is reasonably colorful, and the set dressing is even good, with a fair bit of attention paid to making each stop along the way visually dense with props. The bloodless, sub-PG-13 violence and stiff character animations kind of add to that B-movie feel, the enemies standing around gormlessly firing their weapons at you actually kind of feel like actors in a cheesy movie more-so than actual terrorists and I found that strangely cute. I kinda [i]liked[/i] seeing every bad PS3-era post-processing effect slathered all over the screen (even if there's a spot or two where the bloom is so intense it blocks out actual enemies). What's not as forgivable is the audio design which I think is the actual worst aspect of the game and holds it back from being quite as entertaining as it could be. Remember when I said I wanted something "dumb and loud"? Well, it's [i]dumb[/i] but it completely misses the mark on "loud". The gun sounds are [i]ridiculously[/i] undercooked. Enemy guns don't seem to make any kind of sound [i]at all[/i] which makes the shootouts feel a lot less intense than they could. Your own guns [i]do[/i] make sounds but they have got to be the absolute worst gun sounds I've heard in a game. The assault rifle you start with is weirdly quiet, and the pistol sounds less like a pistol and more like someone thumping a rubber band on a piece of cardboard. Seriously? You couldn't find anything a bit punchier on like... freesound.org or something? It's wild how [i]consistently[/i] bad the gun sounds are too, they [i]all[/i] suck. The X8 sounds kind of alright I guess but it's still comically quiet, and the abundance of stock gun sounds floating around in the world just have me wondering [i]"how?"[/i]. Normally I don't even pay this much attention to a game's audio, but part of what drew me to this [i]was[/i] that I wanted a bunch of noise and chaos, and I think if they had at least gotten the sound right the aesthetic experience would be a fair bit more thrilling.

Despite all the issues, it's a decent "So bad it's good" kind of game and every inept thing really just made it funnier. I feel like this would be a lot more boring if it was actually good. I loved stupid moments like accidentally killing hostages only for the game to play a cutscene right after where your team walks in and says "Okay, let's get these hostages out of here". Either those hostages are more resilient than the game told me or my crew is in for a nasty surprise (this happened [i]multiple[/i] times in one level. Sorry!). I loved how every time they wanted to do a slow-mo shot for drama, they just [i]dip the framerate[/i] instead of properly slowing things down. The basic action of moving through areas and shooting enemies [i]is[/i] fun and I would've quit if I was bored. There [i]is[/i] a reason I kept hitting the "next level" button. Unlocking little upgrades every two levels was a compelling enough reward and I surprisingly found myself getting more and more into the game the further I went. The scenarios themselves do get more exciting as you go and when you beat the game once you unlock the slightly harder "Veteran Mode". Veteran Mode is still easy in the grand scheme of things, but I was at least starting to die at the rate you would in a normal game, I think Veteran Mode should have really been the default difficulty and then you unlock something even harder after that, because Veteran Mode was where I really started to appreciate the game a bit more than I had the first time around. You can't just stand and pick guys off anymore, you have to prioritize and strategize, pick the most dangerous target and look for environmental things that make life easier. The game went from a corny little thing I played on the lark to something I was actually becoming interested in. That extra little bit of challenge made the game a lot more active and engaging.

I had a feeling this must've been meant for PSMove or maybe even the Wii and sure enough some cursory Googling tells me the [i]Heavy Fire[/i] series [i]started[/i] as WiiWare and suddenly all the jank makes a lot more sense. I think this would be a lot more novel if I was playing on a platform with motion controllers. Despite the glaring issues, none of the game's jank took away from the fun and if anything made it more likable. It's not devoid of passion or talent and there are glimpses of smart design here and there that you appreciate more the deeper you get into it. The developers of this eventually did the excellent (but still charmingly jank) [i]Robocop: Rogue City[/i] and if this helped them get there I certainly can't knock it. I think Teyon's issue has always been more budgetary and time than talent and everyone has to start somewhere, but even something has humble and misshapen as this really isn't bad. Will I play it again now that I've beaten it twice? Probably not, but I imagine people who are into score attacking will like this game and I might go back for the last few achievements.

Patrząc po mieszanych opiniach, już w 2014 ta gra była co najwyżej 'taka se'.
Niestety wszystko jest zrobione byle jak, gra się w to jak w najgorszy paździerz na automatach, stworzony z myślą o jak największym utrudnianiu zabawy, żeby mieć jak najmniej punktów, jednocześnie tracąc maksimum żyć.
Bardzo marne wykonanie, gra nawet statystyki celności źle liczy.
Niewarte nawet obecnej ceny 3,29zł.

So, this is a pure arcade rail shooter just like something you'd play on an actual arcade machine in a mall or an amusement park. Most of the negative comments are probably from people who aren't familiar with this type of game and can't separate it from an FPS.

It's really straight forward and there are different play settings (urban, support heli, support heavy MG, rural, cave). You shoot bad guys popping up before they shoot you. You shoot the red thing that go boom. You shoot the ammo and health to get... ammo and health. Maybe you don't shoot too many allies maybe you do, that's between you and yourself.
The music is fine, the sounds are okay but a bit muffled, especially for the weapons. They lack some puch, so does the handling. It feels like you're holding a fixed gun on an arcade machine, which isn't fun on a PC game. There's no recoil and it's very stiff.
The voices are fine as well but during the gameplay it's a bit cartoonish, which is fine for a pure arcade product especially since it's not because the recording or acting is bad.
On a technical side, it's pretty stable and I haven't had any issue, bug or crash whatsoever and the game looks nice enough and very detailed.
You can create user profiles for different players.

There are some small issues though. The controls can't be modified and you have to set your keyboard to qwerty because there are a few quicktime events (only for bonus points).
Bloom is way overbearing and makes it difficult to see at times but this can be seen as some needed added difficulty. The game isn't challenging nor long. The first time around takes a bit less than 90min and with veteran mode, less than 3.5h. You need to power through the easy mode to unlock the normal mode which is much more entertaining. It's not even enough game time to unlock all trading cards drops...
There are several weapons but you can't just pick one, you need to reset the bonus you have unlocked and then select the weapon you want and all the other bonuses. Playing easy + normal at least once will give enough points to unlock everything.
There is a shooting range but it's not really fun, a bit overwhelming without clear aim except shooting randomly for 30s. In that regard the other game "Reload" from the same guys is much better. It's very much a play with friend thing and is much more replayable.
That's the last downside of this game, there is really no reason to replay it unless you're a massive fan or need to 100% the achievements. This might be different if you manage to play it with a wiimore or something alike on a huge screen (it's doable according to the forum).

Overall, it's totally fine on sale with the 2 others from the same team. However this one is much better than "shattered spear". A lot.
Maybe less so at full price unless you understand what an arcade rail shooter is and actually like that a lot...on a "tiny" screen with mouse and keyboard. I can't even imagine this is any fun with a gamepad. If it does indeed work with a wiimote then it's totally fine but I don't have time to try.

이 가격에 이정도 그래픽이면 그럭저럭 꽤 볼만한수준...연출도 그다지 나쁘지 않고 탱크랑 헬기미션은 좀 괜찮았다. 극후반빼고는 그렇게 난이도가 어렵지는 않다(극후반은..좀 짜증이 낫지만 꺠지 못할정도는 아니다)

다깨면 밤 미션으로 재탕을 할수있게 해놨는데..1번정도는 킬링타임으로 할수있지만..두번은 좀 ㅋㅋ 하여간 색다른 느낌으로 저렴하게 PC판 건슈팅이라는걸 느껴보고싶다면 추천
후속작이 있던데 조만간 그것도 해야겠다. 그리고나서 람보 비디오 게임을 해야지

Достаточно чиловый и прикольнявый тир с достойной атмосферой (Музыка и Переговоры по Радио прям мурашки вызывают) и вездесущим американским пафосом. Пусть игра и дешёво сделана, но та вполне неплохо выглядит и играется, на мой взгляд. Игра проходится быстро, плюс по скидкам её можно забрать за 30 рублей. По приколу или понастольгировать взять можно)

Virtua Cop was released in 1996 on the PC, and it's far superior in gameplay compared to this. There's no feedback when you're shooting or when the characters are hit. Everything feels slow when you’re supposed to be in an intense firefight. It doesn’t feel like you are shooting at enemy targets, it feels like you are just clicking on them to make them fall down. I bought the three titles, and this was the first one I played for a dollar. I personally wouldn’t recommend this. I would skip it and just download Virtua Cop 1 and 2, which you can find for free since they are abandonware, instead of playing this.

Bought all three rail-shooter games by Mastiff and Teyon for less than 2$.

This was a very well paced shooter-on-rails with detailed environments, solid but basic gameplay that reminded me of the classic old school light-gun games of the arcades.

The main gameplay loop could become repetitive over time but the game's duration should be about 2 hours for the Rookie play-through and 2 more for the veteran (same missions but more difficult).

For this reason the game is not long enough to become boring.

For this price it is a good deal for the variety of the scenery and well-paced action.

Wants to be time crisis so bad and fails at every step. Audio quality is subpar. From the beginning enemies take far to long to cause damage. The weapons have no weight leaving everything feeling lifeless. Almost decided to keep it to have another rail shooter in my collection, but I'd revisit Time Crisis over a dozen times and not feel empty like this series made me feel. It's a shame because you can see where this game could really be something special.

Not worth your time and your money.

Story is kind of what a schoolboy would do who is overzealous about shooting in Afghanistan. Maybe it would have been better if there wouldn't be a try of a story. No bonding with the characters, the theme, just shoot.

Characters are not really exist, rather than targets and not targets. No emphasis on main character, no antagonist, no allies (just soldiers who you don't shoot), no mentor, no love interest, totally nothing. Main charcter is just there because... I guess he loves to shoot.

Though there are various scenes, there is no such thing as an atmosphere. Go shoot, go shoot, the thing is the same, just the background is different.

Visuals are okay-ish. Since it is a rail shooter, not an FPS, it delivers enough. You would shoot all the time so no trouble lamenting the blandness or ugliness of the scenery.

The audio is on par with the visuals. Comrades would talk all the time, but you can't stop to listen. Main character always says hooah, whenever moves around obstacles, enemies are strangely mute.

Not the worst game, but if you want a rail shooter, grab something else.

Please, for the love of God, stay away from this game. I cant go further on this review as this game is a rail shooter with such broken AI and horrible crosshair issues that tests your patience . I really thank God to have spent just a dollar on this miserable shooter. This is worse than Rambo the Video Game which had some semblance of hope as its other campaign was fleshed out and had some story beneath its skin.But this, oh this just takes the cake of the worst gaming can be . Giving it a 3/10 shows the leftover generosity sitting beneath the shallow tank of patience I have as I just ended in the last mission of this boring , cookie cutter, lacklustre garbage. I am quite glad to see the developer, Mr. Mistiff/Mastiff do not pull out any more mischiefs out of their hollow bag of tricks.

Seriously, 12 missions of the same rinse and repeat with no story and broken gameplay. What a waste of time . am deleting it right now as I end this review on an angry note.

I am 32 years old.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.

Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.

With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.

After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.

Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.

Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.

Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

It still holds up even if its a little dated.

Has 2 difficulties maps: Rookie,Veteran
but have too do all Rokie Levels too so reach Veteran difficulty levels, and both you HAVE too do 1 level too reach the next.
Think Veteran levels makes all levels night. (i have only played 1 veteran level)

I don't usually complain when a game is basic, as long as it keeps me entertained, but Heavy Fire: Afghanistan, is one boring hell of a game, offering little to no challenge, except for when it is extremely annoying with save states, making you replay the same section over and over, until you get lucky.
Also, the game refuses to save my progress for some reason, so I had to play the entire game all at once (after losing 2 saves), so be careful.

"Heavy Fire: Afghanistan" ist ein First-Person Rail-Shooter.

Im Grunde ist "Heavy Fire: Afghanistan" ein aufgeblähtes "Moorhuhn". Wir schießen mit der linken Maustaste und laden mit der rechten nach. Haben wir einen Screen abgearbeitet werden wir automatisch wie auf Schienen zum nächsten Screen gebracht, auf dem neue Gegner warten, die allerdings nicht in der Lage sind einen Positionswechsel zu machen, sondern aus den immer gleichen Positionen feuern.

Immerhin kommen später auch Gegner mit Maschinengewehren, kleinere gepanzerte Fahrzeuge und sogar Hubschrauber als Gegner hinzu, so daß zumindest ein wenig Abwechslung besteht. Nach jeweils zwei Leveln können wir sogar einen Upgrade-Punkt in eine neue Hauptwaffe, mehr Magazine, mehr Granaten oder eine bessere Schutzausrüstung investieren.

Wir haben ein modernes Gewehr als Hauptwaffe und eine Pistole mit unendlicher Munition als Notwaffe sowie eine geringe Zahl an Handgranaten. Gegen Hubschrauber wird uns dann automatisch eine Bazooka in die Hand gedrückt.

Wir sind übrigens als heldenhafter US-Soldat, der die Gegner im Dutzend umnietet in Afghanistan unterwegs. Eine kritische oder auch nur realistische Haltung zum US-Krieg sucht man hier vergebens.

Das Schießen funktioniert dabei simpel und direkt, eben ähnlich wie bei "Moorhuhn". Und in gewisser Weise macht das auch kurze Zeit Spaß, denn mechanisch ist das alles in Ordnung. Grafik und Sound bleiben allerdings auf ziemlich unterdurchschnittlichem Niveau. Das Ganze wird dann allerdings doch nach relativ kurzer Zeit repetitiv und langweilig.

Своих денег игра точно стоит, особенно если соскучились по тирам (к сожалению сегодня этот некогда популярный жанр незаслуженно забыт). Что понравилось и не понравилось:

+ разные уровни в разном окружении
+ неплохая графика
+ дадут и на танке покататься, и на хамви, и на вертушке полетать
+ выбор вариантов прокачки
+ взрывающиеся бочки, баллоны с газом
+ после прохождения открывается режим ветерана
+ возможность прятаться в укрытия
+ подрыв врагов гранатами
+ забавное кряхтенье главного героя при прыжках
+ кончаются патроны
+ разнообразные катсцены

В режиме ветерана уровни те же, но усложнены - темнотой (ночь вместо дня), туманом, солнцем в глаза (враги прячутся за ним)

- очень очень унылый босс вертолет
- слишком легкая
- нет серьезных штрафов за дружественный огонь

В целом поиграть можно, на безрыбье и рак - рыба. Тиров в магазине практически раз два и обчелся, а этот не такой уж и плохой. Я даже прошел его раза три.

P.S. Нужно побольше тиров. Самое то, чтобы расслабиться вечером за кружкой чая.

Класика фільмів 2000-х про американський морпіхів. Американці на Арбамсах, Хамві та Апачах, мають нищити десятки афганських терористів, які мають лише АК-74, старі БТР та МІ-14. Все це в горах, арабських містах та печерних бункерах. Ностальгія в її гарному розумінні.

Ігролад
Рейковий шутер з нотками інтерактиву і гарними катсценами. Гарно зроблено, що від місії до місії, дійсно стає важче все встигати й швидко всі знищувати. Виглядає
Графіка відповідає стандартам часу видання гри. VFX середній, повеселило анімації смерті в ворогів.

Звучить
Звукова доріжка крута, тут без зайвих слів. Звуки ж стрільби та вибухів іноді звучать дивно, особливо в гелікоптерів. Також фразу в разі френдлі фаєру, я запам’ятаю на довго, бо ТЕКІН ФАЕР!

Глючить
Ні, але в мене чомусь меню в Full HD, а сама гра в віконці HD.

this game is absolutely excellent for the price - its a shame it doesnt have default light gun support out of the box but most games dont , graphics , voice acting , cut scenes are worthy of AAA titles and for older folks like me ( 41 lol ) its really reminiscent of the older arcade rail shooters with modern graphics . buy it , its fun .

Much like its sequel, Shattered Spear, this game is a decent shooter for what it is and it does look pretty good. Sometimes the screen is utter chaos with how much is on it, but it's still good fun. However, there's massive differences between this one and the sequel.

For starters, unlike the sequel, enemies have a small ! pop up when they're about to hit you, which is a mercy compared to the later game as you can actually tell who is going to take a chunk out of your health and where. But then the gameplay is slower, or at least feels it. Every time I clicked to fire, it felt like there was a delay, which is kinda bad given I'm supposed to be using a machine gun. And then there's the marines, who you will most likely shoot by accident. On one hand, you only lose 50 points shooting them in this, it's not an instant game over, but on the other there's a LOT more marines in this game, meaning you'll likely make a number of mistakes.

The game feels easier than its sequel and it looks just as good. I get the feeling I'll see this one through quicker, though the levels will likely be slower in general. It certainly feels like they were getting to grips with the idea of a rail shooter, but if this is their first attempt (as I can't be sure it is) then they did a bang up job all the same.

Targets to shoot and reloads to juggle. Hit the red barrels. Just about everything gets a Hooah. Even on Rookie it has its challenges, but health kits are plentiful. The harder difficulty unlocks after your first playthrough. My two complaints are that friendly fire only subtracts points from your total versus actually damaging the player (that would have been a nasty side effect), and also there's no manually switching to your sidearm, it only equips if your primary is dry. You can hide in cover as long as you want, I didn't see any grenades.
