Kept me up till 2AM playing. So if you don't want this to happen don't get it. Totally fun medieval city management game.

But there is some kind of BUG with the SAWMILLS. The way around this is to have Woodcutters on a dedicated road NOT connected to your city with a warehouse at the end that will store your wood. From that warehouse make another dedicated road with Sawmills to connected to another warehouse to store your planks. From there make a road connecting to your city with the furniture makers close by to take the planks and make furniture. This usually solves that so that your economy doesn't crash out.

This is a great game.

I have been playing this on and off for about 2 years, and while it took me a good few hours to properly understand some of the mechanics, and tens of hours to properly solve every puzzle it throws in your way, it is a lot of fun to do so.

To me this game seems to be mainly about the logistics of running a city; All of your stocks are represented by physical items, spread out over different buildings and storage yards. These storage yards can be configured very precisely, with the option to set a limit for each individual item, and the options to either not collect the item, only collect it from production buildings, or collect it from other storage yards. Using this simple system, and the fact that all citizens only walk over the roads you have built allows for a relatively simple start, but gives the option to design more complicated flows for your items.

Due to the houses having slowly increasingly complicated needs, you can take your time to learn the game, and decide to not provide any item for the time being until you are ready to take your city to the next step. This allows you to take on all of the logistics puzzles that are thrown in your way at your own pace, or even skip steps by building less efficient systems.

Besides this, every game has a world map with neighbouring nations, which all (depending on their relationship score) might want to trade with you, or go to war with you. This adds another layer of depth to your gameplay, as you can now strategize your growth based on changing supply and demand (although ongoing trade relationships don't get reduced unless a war is started), and use your trades to turn excess production into money.

The only downside I have found to this game is that there is no multi-configuration mode, every single building has to be done by hand. Once you start heading into cities with hundreds of houses, this might become a bit dull, but I have found it to be not too terrible to deal with.

Everything together, with the intricate production mechanisms, the tricks you can use to control your supply lines, the trading mechanics and the simple but fun warfare mechanics, Hearthlands throws a lot of interesting puzzles in your way, which can take you tens or even hundreds of hours to find the most efficient solutions to. On top of this, it has a wide range of realistic but challenging achievements, which all keep the game interesting after you have finished the campaign.

A city building game that I got as part of a charity bundle. It’s okay, but that’s it. There are some real problems that hold it back, including a very sensitive levelling system for the houses. You need food to get to level 2, then alcohol to get to level 3, then furniture to get to level 4, etc. However, if there’s a hiccup in the production chain and your food isn’t getting to the houses, they will devolve at the end of the month. Suddenly you can lose a third of your population and now you don’t have enough workers to keep up the full production and you are spiralling down. And you can’t just build a lot of storage so you have enough food, booze, luxury goods, etc. to keep your population happy for a few months, because each storage plot needs 8 workers and can only store 48 units. Storage plots are both essential and worthless. You either have to have a sizable chunk of your population babysitting storage plots or your production chains are one pathing error away from collapsing your population.

Make the houses stay at the highest level unless they are missing a good for three or more months and then have them drop only one level a month after that. Also, have storage plot require no workers, but have dedicated buildings for haulers whose job it is to move goods from the places that produce them to storage and then from storage to where they are needed. That wouldn’t fix all of the problems. For example, the diplomacy is shallow and combat is lackluster. However, it would be enough that I would stick around and try to get all of the achievements.

I would still give the game a positive review, except it costs $26 Canadian. That’s way too much to ask for this level of quality.

Got it 2 years ago in a bundle and gave up after 20 minutes but after revisiting it now I regret the time I spent away from it.

Brilliant little game for anyone interested in city building and trading/defending from attacks. Definitely one of those games I can see myself pouring dozens of hours into and I can't wait to do just that.

10/10 would recommend!

Неплохо, похоже на классические стратегии типа оригинального Stronghold, но со своими приколами. Тут как и в цитадели есть цепочки производств, как пищевой и оружейной, так и благ для населения, чтобы развивать город и получать больше налогов и больше жителей.
Отличается игра тем, что есть магия. Есть прокачка, как мета, для действующей карты, так и локальная у каждого солдата. Но нельзя например участвовать напрямую в осаде вражеских замков, здесь это всего лишь - отправил войска, а там они либо выиграли, либо проиграли, зависит от циферки силы армии. Также и торговля иная, нужна делать запрос на товар и ждать, когда его привезет [i]корован[/i]. Стоить отметить, что в игре есть 4 цивы, за которые можно играть, у каждой свои приколы, на манер AOE 2, типа больше налогов/работников и т.д, а также и уникальные особый юнит.
Из минусов можно отметить только войска нельзя разбиты на отряды, и их нельзя выделять мышкой, а нужно прокликивать через ctrl. Ну и часов через 15 явное однообразие.

I'll start by saying I have always loved playing 'Pharaoh' and still play it to this day. So when playing Hearthlands I'm looking at it with Pharaoh in the back of my mind. And I like the game. It certainly has it's own merits. To be specific, I like that the buildings don't decay or catch fire. That's a load off my mind. I like the different types of food and items the villagers need to evolve.

When I play these types of games I just like to build up the city - I've never liked the combat because I'm never prepared enough for it. Nothing has changed. I'm not prepared for the spiders or wolves - I just like that it forces me to think ahead and get ready for combat.

Something I would like to see in the game relates to the menu. I would like a load button in the menu screen when playing the game. At the moment if I want to go back to a saved slot, I need to go back to the title screen and load a saved game which seems like a weird thing to leave out.

Overall, I've currently played for over 86 hours so I like the game a lot (^_^)

Alrighty.... 16 hours of playing and I arguably didn't get past the tutorial. Well, that's not true. I beat the tutorial and started the campaign. Mission difficulty started off at "Very Easy" for the first three missions and for the fourth, it was "Easy" difficulty. I started off on a good footing and preemptively cleared out the trolls and their camps while still building my army and only had one person die. Sweet. Things are going well. Next up: conquer a neighboring city; which includes a very specific line:
"Four full squads should be enough to win the battle."
I had six full squads and I targeted the second-to-weakest city and lost miserably... what? Okay... reload. I had two Archery squads, two Berserker squads, and two Axemen squads which apparently isn't enough, despite the fact the game only expects me to have four squads, two Axemen and two Berserker squads, Let's add another archery team (fastest to make at the moment). I tried again, still died.... Uh... lemme save up and spend research points to upgrade my troops a bit -> 1 level in both leather and chain mail armor as well as 1 level in Axe Mastery and Archery. Now go my sev- oh I lost again.
Uh... Alright, I'll add a squad of Spearmen to my ranks (got the achievement). I now have eight squads and they chew through all my gold for upkeep like nobody's business. Seriously, I'm at the edge of going in the red while selling everything possible via trade at all times, with two levels to increase the trade limit to 80 too. I even got the Great Merchant achievement! It's been 20 in-game years. I enjoy taking my time. Anyway, I'll also wait for enough time to research Spear Mastery to buff my Spearmen and now GO! EIGHT SQU- oh I still lost.

So, uh... yeah. Sergio, I dunno if you're reading this, but what in the world? I ended up just going after the weakest neighboring city (got the achievement), beat the mission but I decided "that's enough."

One thing for sure, combat is probably the weakest aspect of the game I experienced as your squads don't really listen to you. When you send them out to war, you wait for several in-game months at a time and then you just get the results. As for local combat, where I had to fight against Elementals that spawned after all the trolls died because I mined too much, it isn't engaging. You either have the units and win or not and don't. There is no strategy besides "select all your squads (individually, so pause while queuing commands) and click on whatever is looking at you funny." There is no opportunity to kite enemies around with your archers because the enemy is a big, slow moving troll or Elemental.

For everyone else, this game does quite a lot of things pretty darn well. If you like the premise of a strategic city building game, you'll like what this game has to offer and it really has a lot to offer. I still won't recommend it because by my experience. This is a subjective review despite the objectivity in the first two sentences of this particular paragraph.

A Caesarlike citybuilder in a fantasy setting, but I found the building's logistics to be too big a pain in the ass to keep playing. There would be a stockpile with coal next to a smelter, and they would walk to the other side of the map to fetch coal . It's disappointing because I was enjoying it, but once you get to the campaign levels where your city gets much larger the logistical issues become too much of a headache.

I bought this game when it first released. I've just started replaying it now (September 2022), and I'm still enjoying it.

This is an excellent game, clearly inspired by the old Impressions city builders. It has city building, trading with other cities, and war with other cities. There's a campaign in which the combat can't be turned off, but also a sandbox mode in which combat can be disabled,

If you're looking for a modern game with the same feel as those old Impressions games, I'm not aware of a better one than Hearthlands.

My only criticisms of the game are:
UI is a bit clunky, but it is functional.
Graphics could be better, but like the UI, they are perfectly functional.
As far as I'm aware there is no way to rebind the keys, although in this particular game that isn't a big problem.

Well I will say this, It is a very interesting concept with alot of to dos under the hood, can it do it all right? not as of yet but if the devs listen to feed back and act upon them, this game has endless possibilities, I say support the devs, and help them turn this into a cult classic, and make it excellent.

Military Units get stuck on targets. You cant swap the target without sending the unit home first and then trying to swap the target while they walk back.

tl;dr: Ignore the description which makes it sound like a Majesty game, if you are on the fence, it is indeed worth trying out. If you've played Impressions Games city builders and enjoy Anno, I strongly recommend that you buy and try this game. The first two missions (less than 1 hour) will help you determine if you will like this game or not. [b]Tip:[/b] skip the tutorial and go straight into the campaign as it already contains a great tutorial. The soundtrack is great, the sound effects are retro, and each building has its own individual sounds.

I grew up on Caesar III. Right there with Red Alert 1, Tiberian Sun, Lionel's, and Rollercoaster Tycoon all the way through to Factorio, Rimworld, and They Are Billions. I'm always searching for another great game that can fit in that city builder-management game and yet here I am shocked that I did not hear about this game until now. Without a doubt, this is an exceptionally well done and finished Impression Games-like game with an Anno-like heavy emphasis on resource provision to tiered residents except instead of sailing or flying your resources to and fro you do it through a classic early 2000s city builder with good manually drawn graphics to boot rather than the bloom-infested 3D eyesores (Banished).

The current Steam market is finally filling up with new city builder games and I've been buying and trying many of them out and if you've done the same, then you probably already know, but 1-in-2 of these new city builders are engaging in an effective demonstration of the idea that they're doing you a favor by letting you in on their Early Access limbo hell and yet none of them are even half the game this is - and it's not even in Early Access, it's already out since 2017. A finished city builder game, ready to enjoy in full, RIGHT NOW. I can't believe it.

Perfect amalgamation of the classic Impression Games city builder game loop (improved by a few modern quality of life changes) and nostalgic aesthetics from Northland, as well as elements from 1st generation RTS games such as Tzar, where the RPG influence was still fresh and strong, and you had magical artifacts, swords and chests full of coins scattered throughout the map for your soldiers to pick up.

I LOVE some of the little ideas such as the unemployment-vs-taxation mechanic, I'm genuinely learning useful stuff that I'm gonna have to keep in mind for my own game development, and I wish more games did.

Honestly the only possible complaints I could think of are:
- I wish I could save & load specific savefiles from the pause menu
- The settings could be better (e.g. edge scroll, mouse sensitivity, keybinds, ability to disable window always in front etc.)
- The combat could be a bit more polished (unit commands sometimes are ignored, there's no drag selection, etc.)
- The music becomes a smidgen repetitive after a while, and some of the sounds get quite annoying (like the winery pumps)
- The UI could be a bit more polished, it's useable but clunky at times, and the undo button from the Impression Games titles is dearly missed
- The raiding RNG should definitely be rebalanced (you pretty much are required to max your entire forces, wait for the city to attack you, and attack back multiple times in a row in order to eventually defeat them - even though the inspector says "we are very likely to win this battle")

That being said, overall a fantastic city builder. 100% recommend.

- dość żmudna i męcząca kampania, długo to wszystko zajmuje, a niektóre etapy trzeba kilkakrotnie powtarzać metodą prób i błędów
- możliwość rzucania czarów to fajny dodatek do takiej gry i generalnie setting fantasy też bardzo na plus
- ze wszystkich gier inspirowanych faraonem i tak dalej, ta jest chyba najlepiej zrealizowana, bo jest mniej frustrująca niż na przykład taki nebuchadnezzar

Hearthlands is a city planner clone of Caesar 3, Pharaoh and the various games from the City Builder series of Sierra. In Hearthlands you play one of four different cultures who differ by the basic resources they can produce and by one specialized military unit.

The game's presentation is average. Graphics, UI and controls all work well enough to be able to manage the build in a slow pace. The game's pace is the first problem you may encounter. You can speed up progression in Hearthlands by twice to 3 times as fast, but it usually means you'll get production issues to show up just as fast. The updates on the resource status pane don't reflect how bad your situation can be. For instance you can have a deficiency in medicine lasting several years without any issues rising. Have a deficiency in logs however and that can lead to a catastrophe. Resources are not well categorized enough to understand this while playing the game.

Resource balance is flimsy at best. You need so many log cabins in this game, I've started recognizing situations as "Plank Apocalypse" or "Log Addiction". Having 20-30 cabins for any size-able city is normal. Wood is essential to about everything. The same can not be said of fringe resources like Eggs. If you want to accumulate those, same problem, but worst, the production is actually useless unless you need feathers. Multiple food resources suffer from starvation, because their values are engineered to be much lower.

With 3000 population, you can go about with 2 bakeries, and only 1 mill, but you'll need more than 12 log cabins, 10 grain farms, 10 furniture shops, etc.. It doesn't really make any sense as on another game I needed a lot more of everything. Eventually the map just crawls because of the amount of buildings required for production. You can't upgrade individual structures. The crawling obviously affects balance as you'll suddenly end up in "Plank Apocalypse" just for producing 8 spears. Military units can cost a lot if you make specialize units and I swear some times the upkeep is 10 times what it's supposed to be.

Some other issues show up when harvesters pick the resource the further away from their farm. It seems the algorithm scans from the corners of their range. That means they'll frequently visit other farms and harvest resources they shouldn't be harvesting. Starvation issues happen between storage houses if they're on the same roads with the same resource specs. The game is not very intelligent when it auto-manages for you and unfortunately it feels broken very often.

Campaigns are only about answering step goals in a sequential manner which you can reach whenever it suits you. Even mobs attacking your cities on the map are triggered on cue. Either population increase or global net worth of your buildings, it's easy to reload a save game and make sure you can fence a group of spiders before it does any damage.

Overall Hearthlands is boring with very little challenge. There are no guides or wikis to help players figure out the mechanics. You'll have to put up with the hostility of the developer and send him private emails. Unfortunately this game feels like reinventing the square wheel with too many consistency issues to me. Pick it up on sale if you must, but there are better city planners out there.

RELAXING!
This game should be better known, definitely. It has a great gameplay and flow. Instead of trying to be serious and challenging, focuses on the atmosphere and chillout feeling that the author wants to give us. Those people voices xDD

COHERENT MECHANICS
Avoided errors such games often make. Usually in city building games things like diplomacy, army, fights and dangers are done very badly and after all they are just annoying. Here i could enjoy it as it gives extra purpose for developing our town and nicely differenciates between early and late game. You choose the time when you're ready to fight.

GOOD DESIGNED
This game is really user-centered, on every step takes care of you and your good experience. It's very consistent and coherent - a rare example of really good idea that went in a good shape till the end of developing process.

Minuses?
STILL DIPLOMACY COULD BE BETTER - I missed especially some more use of fame and allies.
SHORT - waiting for more scenarios and more content!

Recommend - YES, especially for "old" people who played Pharaoh and other classics in the genre.

This game reminds me of a game from 1998 I used to love called Anno 1602 (also known as Anno 1602: Creation of a New World). Although it is missing the experience of discovering and trading between multiple islands, Hearthlands does a good job of recreating the experience of creating and managing a city that I miss from the old Anno games (newer games in the Anno series lack the charm the old games had and many titles fail to work properly on newer systems or due to Ubisoft's weird third party stuff). If you find it on sale it is a good nostalgia trip if you also used to enjoy similar games.

There isn't anything wrong with the game. Its just lacks polish that I've seen in other similar games. What it does have going for it is the unique(ish) enemies that spawn on the map when you start. They have a base that they come from and will continue to come until you strike down the base. However the military is not well actualized. In order to level your troops you....park them next to a walled off sewer and forget about it for a few years. Or some walled off spiders, whichever. And better hope none of them die against the enemies, cause the new spawn will come in at...level 1(or higher if you spent the research).
Speaking of research, there are two kinds. One is useful, you get more workers, more speed on your movers, improve your fight and defend. The other is magic. You need to get a good amount of it saved up to buy the spells in the first place, then you'll need more of it every time you want to cast a spell. You can....increase resources. Sometimes, if there is an enemy spawned, you can attack them without using troops. You will do this once every...decade. Maybe two. And then once you have run out of things to research, you may as well delete your libraries cause the points just accumulate with no way to spend them.
Speaking of useless things to spend, the fame system. It has one use. You increase how much another city likes you. For maybe four months. They might offer you a new trade, which they will take again away after the affection fades. Affection also fluctuates when you fulfill demands, or accept gifts. And so your trade routes will wibble wobble constantly. You have to go into a seperate tab then scroll around to see what changed, if you want to buy or sell on the new route, keep track of what has fallen off and gone on and what you have and they have while the resource tracker cant be accessed from that screen.
That all said!! Its not a badly made game! It would have even been a good game....about...uh. Ten, fifteen years ago? Twenty tops.

Lastly, the fixed camera. You better hope that nothing you need is hidden behind a tall building. Your options are forget it, or delete the building.

And you better hope that your mouse never falters while building, cause once the footprint is down the price is paid!

As we all know, the city building genre is not doing that well right now. Sure, there's still quite a lot of such games around and some of them even come with pretty interesting mechanics, but still, there's a big problem with them. Even though city building games started as some sort of sandboxes in titles like [b]Don Daglow[/b]'s [b]Utopia[/b], [b]Will Wright[/b]'s [b]SimCity[/b] and [b]Impressions Games[/b]' [b]Caesar[/b] (which added a proper military that was only hinted in [b]Utopia[/b]), the genre eventually evolved into something way cooler. I'm talking, of course, about the campaign mode. Not only it was a great way to learn the basics step-by-step, it was also really interesting to play through. Just because, aside from our usual endless thing, we've got ourselves a series of missions with different goals in them.

Thanks to that, the city building fun got on the whole new level. We've got ourselves juicy gang wars in [b]Mob Rule[/b] (sequel to [b]Constructor[/b], which didn't have proper campaign in it), we've got humorous fantasy tale in [b]Beasts & Bumpkins[/b], we've got [b]Settlers[/b] with all of its variants and, of course, we've got [b]Impressions Games[/b]' [b]Caesar III[/b], [b]Pharaoh[/b], [b]Zeus[/b] and [b]Emperor[/b]. Those four marked the highest point for city building genre. Unfortunately, soon after that... things started to go backward. Instead of evolving, city building games started to go back to the basics. And as the result, we started to get things like [b]Banished[/b]. Which were still pretty cute, but... you know. Playing them felt like returning to [b]80[/b]s. And not in a way you may want to. Like I said, even though modern games often offer us some interesting elements (like [b]Dawn of Man[/b] for example), having a sandbox mode as the main dish makes them feel way too archaic for my liking. Seriously, guys. Look at the calendar. You can't just offer us the core mechanics and call it a day. We need more content. We need missions!

So... here comes that Russian guy [b]Sergey Pershakov[/b]. And yes, as long as we won't count [b]Alexey Lyukshin[/b] who worked on visuals and two other guys ([b]Sergey Fyodorov[/b] and [b]Seth Cruse[/b]) who helped with the music, [b]Hearthlands[/b] was made by only one guy. Doesn't sound promising, huh? Well, it sure doesn't. And let me tell you – when you'll start this game for the first time? You'll be like “[i]FFFFFFUUUUUUUU...[/i]” For many reasons. First (and most importantly)... well, look at screenshots. What does this game look like? I'll tell you what it looks like – it looks like a bloody mobile game. And you know what? There's a good reason for that since [b]Hearthlands[/b] is... well, it's a [b]JAVA[/b] app, OK? Yes, you heard that right. It's a freakin' [b]JAVA[/b] game. Bet you didn't expect to hear that nowadays, huh? Things like [b]JAVA[/b] and [b]Flash[/b] games are something long forgotten at this point. And yet, here... we... are. A [b]JAVA[/b] game that asks for likes and reposts right on its title screen. Joy... But. Yes, there's a “but” in all that. Because... believe it or not, this game is actually pretty nice. [i]Surprisingly[/i] nice.

Believe it or not, that one guy got things right and offered us exactly what we've been waiting for. An old school experience with both sandbox and a proper campaign. Campaign that does things totally right. Not only we've got ourselves proper goals, every mission in this game has not one, but many different goals that'll unlock one after another. There are [b]12[/b] missions here that vary from easy to hard and, like I said, every mission has a few steps you'll need to go through in order to win. Unfortunately, there's no proper story, but then again, cit building games with the story are pretty rare, while missions are actually pretty interesting, so... yeah. It'll totally do.

And as for the core mechanics? Everything is pretty neat too. Naturally, [b]Hearthlands[/b] is based mostly on [b]Impressions Games[/b]' titles, but it actually adds some things from the other famous titles to the formula. So, it's not just a clone. [b]Hearthlands[/b] feels like somebody desperately tried to make city building game for themselves. For their own personal preferences. It takes pretty much everything that used to make such games cool back in the days and calls it a day. You can also notice that in the [b]UI[/b] and micromanagement. The only thing I totally disliked is how the building panel's placed, but aside from that? Everything here is comfortable and easy to understand / use. Sure, this game doesn't offer any special depth. It's just our standard stuff. We build and upgrade houses to increase population (hello, [b]Caesar[/b]), we produce resources (like in [b]Settlers[/b] series, different nations have different approach here), we trade and / or fight with our neighbors and so on. But what's really cool here is that the game offers you the exact info / micromanagement you need in the exact places you want them. You're playing the game and then you're like “[i]It'll be really cool to get more details about the production if I'll click on that building[/i]”. And guess what? The detailed info sits right there. Same thing with the micromanagement. There's exactly as much as casual player would want and it feels both logical and comfortable. Feels really, [i]really[/i] good. I can't say that [b]Hearthlands[/b] is a perfect game to start for those who never played such things before (it may be a little bit more tricky than it looks and it does require some learning before you'll start having a real fun with it), but still, if you're ready to invest some time in it and learn? It's pretty rewarding.

Unfortunately, there's one thing to heavily ruin the final impression. And that thing is... balance. Obviously. Pretty much everybody who played this game on its early stages complained about it and even though [b]Mr. Pershakov[/b] sure listened and fixed some things, this game is still unbalanced as heck. I'm not sure if it's actually possible for a single man to provide us with properly polished experience and [b]Sergey[/b] sure deserves a lot of credit for what he achieved here, but the fact stays – you're looking for perfectly balanced city building game? Look somewhere else. You won't find it here. You probably won't notice it at the beginning (especially if you'll start with the campaign, in which many different things, like magic spells for example, are locked until later), but the more you'll play – the more you'll get “[i]Wait, why?[/i]” effect. Sure, I can't say that this game is broken or something. Far from it. I'm just trying to say that those who know their city building stuff, may have some unpleasant balance surprises on the way.

And yet, [b]Hearthlands[/b] turned out to be a nice surprise for me. I can't say I'll want to return to it often in the future, but honestly, this is how I like my city building games. It's like me and [b]Mr. Pershakov[/b] feel [i]exactly[/i] the same about city building genre. This right here is exactly what I wanted. And even though [b]Hearthlands[/b] is not balanced enough and comes with that certain cheap aftertaste of the mobile game (no, seriously, [b]JAVA[/b]?), I had more fun with it than I had with more ambitious titles lately. If you still haven't played classic titles from the past, some of which I've mentioned above, you should totally go for them first. Just because... you know. This game here feels more like a basic nod to the good old times than a real attempt to create a proper new name in the genre. But if you've already played and finished both well-known titles like [b]Caesar[/b] and less-known gems like [b]Beasts & Bumpkins[/b], then [b]Hearthlands[/b] can give you quite some good time, really. Le gameplay est similaire aux jeux d'antan (ceasar, zeus, ...) ce qui fait vraiment plaisir. Si comme moi vous étiez fan de ces licences (que d'heures de ma vie y sont passées ...) vous retrouverez vite vos automatismes :)
Toutefois je ne recommande pas ce jeu car il manque un élément important: l'histoire! Ici nous ne sommes personne, on ne sait pas pourquoi il faut développer la citée (sinon pour accéder au niveau suivant), on gouverne 4 peuplades "différentes" (les sudiens, les nordiens, les estiens et ... les ouestiens) mais au final c'est toujours la même chose et on ne sait pas ce que l'on fait là.

Le jeu fonctionne très bien sous win10 mais l'affichage est inadapté sous macOS 12 (M1): concrètement le jeu se lance mais est injouable tant la fenêtre est minimisée et la souris ne sait pas où elle est, il faut cliquer au pif.... Pourtant la fiche "configuration requise" précise bien qu'il faut un système 64bit et que le jeu tourne sous macOS10,9+ mais l'ordi me dit que le jeu est 32 bit et n'est donc pas compatible et un message que je n'avais pas vu sur la page magasin (visible uniquement avec le mac) indique que le jeu est incompatible avec les versions ultérieures à la 10... Comment comprendre? ...Un patch svp?

[i]Hearthlands[/i] est un city-builder méconnu qui rappellera des souvenirs aux adeptes des jeux Sierra ([i]Caesar III[/i], [i]Pharaon[/i], [i]Zeus[/i], etc.). Il propose une campagne de 12 missions qui vous tiendra en haleine une trentaine d'heures, ce qui est assez honnête : cette durée de vie pourra être nettement revue à la hausse si vous visez le 100%, notamment à cause de plusieurs succès plutôt longs et pénibles à obtenir. Cependant, la difficulté reste faible (faillite impossible, constructions autorisées même si vous êtes financièrement dans le rouge, etc.) et peut laisser penser que ce jeu est trop simple, voire simpliste.

Malgré cela, on passe un agréable moment à gérer et voir grandir sa ville. Il faut tout de même signaler que la gestion militaire des unités sur le terrain est laborieuse et pas du tout intuitive, mais cela n'a pas gâché mon expérience globale sur ce jeu.

En conclusion, je recommande surtout ce titre aux nostalgiques des jeux de gestion à l'ancienne car tout autre public risquerait de trouver [i]Hearthlands[/i] fade et insipide.

Campaign starts with exact same thing like tutorial - so what is the point of it?. And second mission starts with: "build 48 houses". Some space between houses is required for decorations, so you might be going to place each of those buildings by hand.
I will post an update if it ever gets better but I doubt it.

Unfortunately this game has some severe balancing issues, especially within the campaign. The first Northerner's mission is a nightmare. The quest guide recommends attacking a city with 4 squads to win the battle and conquer a neighbouring city. YET, 10 full squads (3 archers, 2 beserkers, 2 spearmen and 3 axemen) still gets defeated time and time again, loosing dozens of men, yet the enemy only suffers 4-8 losses. Then the defeated army returns home, requires payment to replace losses and military upkeep, then almost bankrupts the city. Rinse and repeat....

A delightful little city builder game. You can spend time in the mission mode or make custom scenarios if you want. The game has a really good tutorial. You can spend so much time in the fun tutorial and
forget all about the other modes. Very entertaining game worth the price. My one grip I have is that it seems the Devs have abandoned it. Would love to see DLC for it.

je l'ai acheté car il avait de bonnes critiques et les graphismes avaient l'air joli.
ce n'est pas un dark soul. la difficulté ne vient pas du gameplay, mais du manque de clarté des commandes. elles ne sont pas intuitives et il n'y a pas d'indice dans le jeu.
exemple le marché. il faut construire un marché (et même plusieurs si vous faites différents import export), mais aussi gérer les routes commerciales (onglet en haut à droite).
exemple la main d'oeuvre. il faut construire des maisons et remplir les besoins vitaux (nourriture, boisson, beauté ...). cela dit même quand les critères sont remplis, ma main d'oeuvre part à tout bout de champs pour raison : "endroit minable".
si je voulais chipoter, je dirais aussi que la musique et les bruitages incessants des armées et des notifications sont ennuyeuses; que j'aurais aimé un moyen de gérer ces notifications et un moyen de donner un nom au sauvegardes.
de plus, les villageois et des commerçants arrivent toujours par le coin nord de la carte. ça limite mon envie de m'installer en fonction du flux routier plutôt que des ressources.
dernier point, j'aurais aimé pouvoir avancer beaucoup plus rapidement qu'en *3. faire tourner l'ordi seul est impossible avec les notifications de peste et autres.
après je n'ai pas remarqué de bug et même avec 3000 villageois le jeu tourne bien sur un ordinateur de 5 ans.
personnellement le jeu me fruste plus qu'il m'amuse.

Un jeu de gestion de cité dans un univers médiéval fantastique fort intéressant et prenant qui selon moi n'a rien à envier aux ténors du genre.

La campagne est sympa et permet de se familiariser avec les nombreuses fonctionnalités. Chaque peuple étant différent, leur gestion économique et militaire diffère également donc les parties se suivent mais ne se ressemblent pas.

Hearthlands est bien pensé et très mignon visuellement. Pas besoin d'un pc à 2000 boules pour le faire tourner, et ça c'est cool.

La gestion économique est complète, aux petits oignons et logique. Logique dans le sens où on ne vous demandera pas des bottes, une chaise, une paire de ciseaux, un buffet à vaisselle, de l'or et un sac de farine pour faire du... jambon!

La gestion militaire est simple d'accès (ce qui n'est pas le cas de tous les jeux de gestion...). Lorsqu'un voisin vous ennuie par exemple, vous avez la possibilité d'ouvrir la carte globale et d'envoyer à l'assaut les troupes que vous aurez sélectionné afin de faire taire ce vile faquin et d'en faire, en cas de victoire, votre vassal. Mais vous aurez également du "ménage" à faire sur la carte principale, pour protéger votre cité des vilaines engeances. Les combats sont plaisants et vos troupes gagnent des points d'xp donc, des niveaux. Cool!

La partie commerce n'est pas pénible non plus (ouf!). Et ça tombe bien car chaque peuple manquera d'une ou plusieurs ressources donc il vous faudra obligatoirement vendre votre surplus et acheter les produits manquants. Commercialement parlant, il n'est pas toujours évident de trouver le bon équilibre, mais... C'est tout l'art d'un jeu de gestion.

Hearthlands ne se laisse pas dompter facilement, il ne s'agit pas d'un jeu "casu". Va falloir réfléchir un pitit peu quand même et passer quelques heures en jeu pour maîtriser toutes les subtilités de ce titre.
Mais Hearthlands n'est pas punitif au point d'être frustrant car il vous est permis de corriger une ou plusieurs erreurs de gestion en pleine partie avant la terrible banqueroute.
Il m'est arrivé de recommencer une ou deux parties mais franchement j'avais fait n'importe quoi. Oui bon bah c'était au début quoi! :)

Après 30 heures de jeu, je n'en suis qu'à la moitié de la campagne (oui je prends mon temps), et je passe vraiment de bons moments en compagnie de ce hearthlands. Il me rappelle les anciens Settlers et Anno.

Il est traduit en langue française, et même si par moment cette traduction est approximative, elle a le mérite d'exister.
Aucun bug à signaler. D'ailleurs, si les devs ne sont que deux, je leur tire mon chapeau car Hearthlands est bien codé, c'est du beau boulot!

Une réclamation peut-être? Mais oui tout à fait : Un peu plus d'options disponibles dans le menu au niveau des paramètres du jeu et un peu plus de choix dans les musiques parce que le tour est vite fait.

En conclusion, hearthlands est une bonne découverte en plus d'être très abordable en soldes.
Je recommande!
Aussi bien pour ceux qui aimeraient découvrir le genre que pour les joueurs expérimentés en mal de jeux de gestion.

Un jeu qui s'inspire beaucoup de Pharaon ou Caesar dans son gameplay et son fonctionnement. Tout en ajoutant des civilisations particulières qui confères des bonus ou malus en fonction de qui vous avez choisi en début de partie.

this takes me right back to my early gaming days of Pharaoh and Settlers III... so much nostalgia! the UI and individual controls/settings could definitely use some tuning (e.g. turn off edge of map scrolling) but overall it's an enjoyable time-sink... yay for micromanagement <3
