Lovely visuals on everything from a CRT to a 4K OLED. Fast paced shooting in the vein of Quake along with a high degree environmental interactivity resulting in lots of destruction and physics driven chaos.
Dynasty Warriors 2? CLASSIC!
Hard Reset? CLASSIC!
Vigilante 8!? DOUBLE CLASSIC!
I Flying Wild Hog li conosco eccome.
Hard Reset Extended Edition has simple but generally decent mechanics. It’s a classic FPS where you only see your arms, and you mostly stick to two weapons. It’s a good pick if you just want to blow off some steam and enjoy action. The atmosphere clearly had work put into it; the overall vibe and environment design come through.
However, the story presentation is weak. It can be hard to understand what’s going on and to follow the plot. The game also feels noticeably “soulless” — almost like it’s intentionally simulating that emptiness. Worth it for action and stress relief, but don’t go in expecting a strong narrative.

Its a old game but I love graphics its awesome game...
This game is a fun, low-impact boomer shooter with just enough story to keep things moving along without feeling stale. I think the negative reviews are from individuals expecting this to be cyber-Doom, and it's not. It's not GOTY; it's got some rough edges, but it's a beautiful world and fun game to dive into for a couple missions here and there of dumb shooter antics. Grab it on sale, don't expect the world, and it'll be a fun dopamine reset.
Hard Reset is a fast, over-the-top sci-fi shooter that you can blast through in a few hours; I finished it in 6, didn’t feel the urge to replay, but for FPS and sci-fi fans looking for a short, intense ride, it delivers exactly what it promises. The graphics are outdated, but its still fun to play. I can recommend but only if you get a good barging :) A solid 7/10.

Screen shake - The Game
Imbalanced bosses on hard difficulties
Graphics are good, but enemies are too basic and you fight hundreds of the same ones.
Really enjoying it so far. Does not look 12 years old at all. Atmospheric with great music and very actual topic ....
Pretty much like old games such as Serious Sam but a bit lighter not that hard + sci-fi world with robots, you get a bunch of enemies each area you progress.. unfortunately the enemies are repeated especially the little explosive mines. The story was interesting in the beginning but later it gets a bit boring. The game experience overall was fun and I'd recommend it if you want to try something from the past as an extra fun maybe?
incredibile scoperta 'sto gioco, a 1,49 euro poi...
Well, this game is certainly not bad at all. I thought it will last longer, but thankfully, it`s not. Exile addon feels boring as second part of a game, also visually, with all that scrap metal and post-apocalyptic factory setting, didnt hit that much. Really disappointed that developers didn`t give us a chance to ride on a spider mech. Weapon modes switching could be faster. Summary - pretty good game, don`t think i will ever play it again.
Worth a play, even in 2025. It can feel a little clunky at first, but plays well.
Even though it has potential in some areas, it’s really let down by the core mechanics: why is screen shaking like there is no tomorrow every time you shoot? And there is no way to turn it off in settings. Instead of making the gun have a difficult recoil so you can compensate it yourself, they just substituted it with absurd amount of screen shake oh “so it looks cool” I guess. That coupled with very bullet spongy enemies and lack of impact cues, make many fights a mess and a guessing game or simply boring where you hold left mouse button for x amount of seconds or go shoot electric/explosive objects for area damage, which is fun exactly first 10 times, not when the whole game is built around it. Next is level design - most of the deaths will be from most minor objects being an impenetrable wall or massive height obstacle for your character. That obviously jumpable object to your right - forget about it, that one to your left that you should be able to just smash while dodge sprinting - also no, congrats you are sandwiched between a parking cone and a cardboard box, restart. So overall, it’s a very janky shooter that won’t test your skill (played on hard) but patience.
História esquecível, só anda e atire
Nice shoter in cyberpunk setting.
Painful yet playable 30 FPS atrocity. I will give the Redux edition a try sometime. I couldn't find any mods online to fix some issues especially the FPS problem. I couldn't even generate LSFG frames to 60 for some reason with dual GPUs. Stick to the newer game I guess but don't expect much. I got it on a heavy discount so it paid for its cost but I wouldn't recommend on full price at all. Since it didn't grab much attention you cannot find mods to fix stuff and I highly doubt you would be motivated enough to mod it yourself. It just isn't worth it imo. Mediocre story at best, grab on a sale I guess. Bye!
Get it on discount , good nobrainer, just total destruction
I liked this game. World looks beautiful. Gameplay is also good.
Clunky and somewhat boring shooter. Got stuck on the environment and smashed by enemies many times. Some of the boss fights were decent. I think there are many more shooters like this that do what this was trying to do a lot better. I won't be finishing this game, even though I'm about half-way in.
Oh. It's over!? Well. That was abrupt.
I would love to recommend this game because in a lot of ways, the sci-punk world they've created is gorgeous. But good lord is this thing repetitive. You fight the same enemies over and over and over again. There appears to be some variation in colour. What does a red one mean instead of a green one? Don't really care. I'm blowing it up either way.
The weapon system is different, and sort of refreshing once you get used to it, but ultimately you only need about three of the twelve weapons.
The fenced off inability to jump on most things makes the whole thing feel rather limited. Often trying to jump over something the height of my knees and the game just not letting me.
My favourite things were the cutscenes. Which for the majority make absolutely no sense whatsoever. What a gorgeous fever dream to sit through.
Worth it if you get it cheap and fancy mindlessly destroying robots!
Pacing ruins otherwise interesting gameplay.
I heard Redux has better pacing, along with some other fixes plus a graphical overhaul. But you're not going to know that by booting up "Hard Reset" assuming it's the first of a series, not what was essentially remastered as "Hard Reset Redux." I'm on Stage 5 out of 7, it's got a really hard boss fight that does not let you manually set a checkpoint, even during the phase change. So if you die in that second phase, that's significantly harder than the first, you gotta redo all of the first phase, which is mostly sitting partially behind 1 of 4 covers, shooting the parts that're orange until they blow up. In the higher difficulties, this takes a REALLY long time: time I'm no longer willing to spend on this.
Yet, the concept itself is still cool. Maybe in the future I'll try Redux and change my mind. But as for my experience with the original, it became a let down. I almost stopped playing in the beginning of stage 4 before I learned you could set manual checkpoints. Player's shouldn't have to do this, but the game was cool enough to where I still gave it a chance. That boss fight I mentioned earlier has manual checkpoints disabled, so I'm back to square-one getting exhausted with how long some of the encounters take
Good.
Mid...at best

Ein gelungener Shooter !
old good fps about robotic apocalypse
played it from start to finish at least twice, maybe more. remember the original version and the remaster with additions and better balance. always was a worthy successor to Painkiller. at the time of release, when everyone else was trying to make their own Call of Duty, Hard Reset was a very brave, surprising game.
Simulator of running backwards
This game Impossible without dash, I 100%ed redux btw this month. the damage is way too high, they can one shot you on insane, Everything is impossible without dash. deleted it during the second mission on insane (first paythrough)
If you're sensitive to screen shaking - don't play this game.
The reason is the developers' decision to not add recoil to weapons in their game, but instead make screen shake violently when you're shooting. And because it's a shooter game, you'll be shooting a lot. There is no option to disable it, nor there were ever made any kind of mods which would add such an option. As a result, I can't play it for more than 20-30 minutes without getting strong headaches.
That's a real shame, because Hard Reset looks simply great: awesome atmosphere of cyberpunk created by numerous detailed decorations and story, which tell you straight away how dystopian and screwed up humanity is in the future where corporations reign supreme. Makes you think about what's going on in the real world even more.
Gameplay seems solid too: difficult, but interesting firefights with both melee and ranged enemies, lots of environmental hazards which could be used against them, neatly packed, upgradeable arsenal in two, although weird looking, but reliable weapons - ballistic and energy one. Overall, game was solid and fun so far, making it even more unfortunate that it's such an awful experience to try and play it for someone as sensitive as me.
Alors...
Fantastic
If Serious Sam went to Cyberpunk 2077 release version
Buggy, broken..
But you don't need a brain, just unplug and turn on auto-pilot.
A FPS with the weakest version of Serious Sam/Painkiller's design philosophy. But is still fun in it's own weird way.
Hard Reset is a FPS game developed by Flying Wild Hog and prides itself as a "Old School" shooter. Being it was released during a time where the modern military shooter was king. And games like Rise of the Triad 2013 and Wrack weren't out yet to start the spark of the "Retro FPS Renaissance". Hard Reset stands as a interesting time capsule where old school FPS games more or less took on the ideal of big arenas with tons of monsters, series like Serious Sam and Painkiller have strived on for years. While Hard Reset tried to imitate that loop, it fails on understanding why games like Serious Sam and Painkiller worked with that kind of gameplay loop. But oddly enough despite that fatal flaw, it is still somewhat fun in it's own unique way.
Gameplay of Hard Reset as mentioned earlier is the "Serious Sam/Painkiller" method to FPS game design, where you have levels that feature arenas that are linearly connected to each other with hallways. While Serious Sam makes this interesting via using stupidly large levels with equally stupidly large amount of enemies with big weapons, and Painkiller comes in with variety in both level and enemy design and weapon combos. Hard Reset seems to try mixes different aspects of these examples and ended up with a combination that kinda feels undercooked by today's standard of Retro FPS games. Firstly with the weapons, instead of having a big arsenal of various weapons, Hard Reset only has two weapons, a ballistic gun and a plasma gun. However they are upgradeable to feature up to 5 different firing modes, which include things like a shotgun, rocket launcher, grenades, plasma, railgun, etc. The main problem isn't the tedium from the needing to swap to one of the two weapons and then swap to whatever gun mode you need. The issue comes from a lot of the guns being slow, especially for the type of game they're in. For example, even when upgraded, the shotgun has a pretty low fire rate with pretty bad spread, even with the stun altfire upgrade it's feel pretty underpowered. Compare that to Serious Sam's Coach Gun where yes it also fires slow but has a extremely consistent and powerful attack that you can rely on when fighting up close. Personally, I recommend beelining towards the upgrade to the plasma gun that adds a railgun as that fire mode is not only pretty powerful, but accurate and can go through walls. Another thing to note is that the player character, Major Fletcher, moves extremely slowly, which is notable since most of the enemies are the swarming type, making a mad dash to the player as soon as they're aggravated. While there is a sprint, it is easily one of the most pathetic sprints I've seen in a FPS game. With it just barely making you faster and the meter running out stupidly fast, there isn't even any upgrades to curb this. And with the level design being more like Painkiller where it's more tight and with smaller arenas you simply cannot do the Serious Sam strategy of moving backward to keep your distances while focusing on the enemies. One positive thing to note is the upgrade system mentioned before, as you gain levels to spend on upgrades via killing enemies and collecting items usually hidden off the beaten path or in secrets. It's also important to note that health and ammo pickups are plentiful and absolutely everywhere. So it's pretty rare for to feel like you don't have enough to get by.
Now on the complete flip side, on a visual standpoint, Hard Reset has a absolutely fantastic cyberpunk visual style. Everything from the lighting, the sheer amount of detail, and the art direction is utterly fantastic, especially from a game from 2012. While it does get repetitive since a good chunk of the early levels are some what similar Cyberpunk streets/alleyways the game still looks really great. The enemies and bosses also have a nice bit of visualable destruction as they take damage, which, in a game that's all about shooting a ton of these guys for a couple hours is pretty nice to note. The story is pretty simple where it's a world where robots waged war and now there's only one human city left, Bezoar. And you as Major Fletcher, is along for the right. It feels like there was supposed to be a bit more depth to the story but due to the games length it doesn't feel like it get's full realized, even with the free DLC that came out later with

Overall, Hard Reset is a novelty at best but when it does work, it is quite fun. Even if it's a bit in the shadow of it's peers due to just having generally weaker design in this specific sub category of Retro FPS. It's still commendable simply because it new "old school" FPS during a period of gaming where the idea of new games like that weren't really popular outside of their dedicated communities obviously. It's also interesting to see where Flying Wild Hog got their start in the FPS scene as they would go on to develop the 2013 Reboot of Shadow Warrior and then it's sequel and there's some crossover in philology between Hard Reset and Shadow Warrior '13 and it's pretty neat to see if you've played both games. And while the game is laughable short being only 7 levels plus the extra 5 levels from the DLC, it often goes on sale for only 1 to 2$ and that price, it's worth a playthough enough for that. Although they did eventually go back to the game in 2016 for a redux featuring upgraded graphics and gameplay tweaks, but it's sweet that both versions are still available to grab for a ridiculously cheap price.

Hard Reset, developed by Flying Wild Hog and published by Good Shepherd Entertainment, is a first-person shooter that immerses players in a gritty, cyberpunk world where humanity's last city, Bezoar, stands as the final bastion against a relentless robotic uprising. Released in 2011, the game offers a nostalgic throwback to classic shooters, emphasizing fast-paced combat, strategic weaponry, and a visually striking dystopian environment.
The game's narrative is straightforward yet compelling. Players assume the role of Major Fletcher, a battle-hardened soldier of the CLN (Central Logistics Network), tasked with defending Bezoar from waves of robotic enemies. The storyline unfolds through brief cutscenes and in-game dialogues, providing just enough context to propel the action forward. While the plot may not delve deeply into character development or intricate twists, it serves its purpose by setting the stage for the intense combat sequences that define the gameplay.
Visually, Hard Reset excels in creating a dark, atmospheric world filled with towering skyscrapers, neon lights, and decaying urban landscapes. The game's use of the proprietary "Road Hog" engine allows for impressive graphical fidelity, particularly in its depiction of destruction and environmental detail. Explosions are visceral, debris scatters realistically, and the lighting effects contribute to the game's moody ambiance. The art direction draws clear inspiration from cyberpunk classics like Blade Runner, with a focus on high-tech, low-life aesthetics that resonate throughout the game's design.
The combat mechanics are where Hard Reset truly shines. The game offers a diverse arsenal of weapons, each with unique functionalities and upgrade paths. The CLN assault rifle, for instance, can be modified to fire explosive rounds or deploy electric charges, adding layers of strategy to encounters. The NRG plasma gun provides a different playstyle, emphasizing rapid-fire energy blasts that can disintegrate enemies in seconds. This variety encourages players to experiment with different loadouts and tactics, keeping the gameplay fresh and engaging.
However, the game's difficulty level can be a double-edged sword. While many players appreciate the challenge, others may find it punishing, especially in the absence of a traditional save system. The lack of checkpoints means that a single mistake can result in significant setbacks, which can be frustrating for those unprepared for such a demanding experience. This design choice harkens back to the era of old-school shooters, where perseverance and skill were paramount, but it may not appeal to all modern players.
The sound design complements the game's atmosphere, with a brooding electronic soundtrack that underscores the tension of each encounter. The audio cues are sharp, with the clanking of robotic enemies and the whirring of machinery adding to the immersion. While the voice acting is serviceable, it doesn't stand out as a highlight of the game.
In terms of replayability, Hard Reset offers a relatively linear experience. Once the main campaign is completed, there are limited incentives to revisit the game, aside from challenging oneself to complete it on higher difficulty settings or to explore different weapon combinations. The absence of multiplayer modes or expansive side content means that the game's longevity is primarily dependent on the player's enjoyment of the core gameplay loop.
In conclusion, Hard Reset is a love letter to fans of classic first-person shooters, delivering a high-octane, action-packed experience set against a richly detailed cyberpunk backdrop. Its emphasis on challenging combat, strategic weapon use, and atmospheric world-building makes it a standout title for those seeking a nostalgic yet fresh take on the genre. While its difficulty and linear progression may deter some, for players who appreciate a tough but rewarding challenge, Hard Reset remains a memorable and engaging adventure.

Poor Man’s DOOM: Cyberpunk Edition.
👍
SUPER!
Hard Clanker
This game was a boomer shooter before people coined that term.
Judging by today's criteria it's also an indie game.
And it's a pretty good one, even though I don't consider robots to be the most entertaining enemy type on the planet ;p
I've just watched the GMan's review of this game, and he said that shooting here sucks... I have to disagree.
Imo shooting here is pretty well made, with a lot of attention to detail. Both of your guns look and feel heavy and powerful, and every fire mode I unlocked turned out to be useful addition to my arsenal.
For the machine gun I unlocked shotgun at first and then later the rocket launcher. Both had their own transformation anims, so despite GMan's claim in his review, there's a lot more changing than just your crosshair when you switch the gun mode.
For the plasma gun (which imo looks very nice) I unlocked the mortar and then self-guiding missiles - and again, both of these modes were useful in different situations.
You get surprisingly high amount of feedback when hitting your enemies.
Very often, when your enemy gets hit, you will not only see some type of spark particles, but also - clanker will be pushed backwards and fall over!
I think, I can't stress that enough - enemies will fall on their backs and try to pick themselves up when you hit them!
This affects the gameplay a lot more than it looks on paper, bc now you can perform pretty effective crowd control against groups of robots.
They can't just eat led (or plasma) while sprinting in your direction, which makes showering them with bullets much more enjoyable.
On top of that, every level is loaded with explosive assets, most of which are pretty overpowered and with wide range. Often you can wipe out a dozen robots with 1 explosive barrel - thanks to that you rarely will feel overwhelmed or stuck with too many robots in the room.
Sometimes game throws tougher and more bullet-spongy enemies at you, and while it can be a bit annoying, they don't spawn in groups, and aren't frustratingly overpowered. Also - bigger enemies have very noticeable stages of destruction, so you can easily judge how much damage they already took.
It isn't a very difficult game either, I died maybe 2 or 3 times per level, and most of the time when I started to be very nonchalant with my movements (played on normal difficulty);
Game has some friction points where you have to focus and be pretty fluent with movement and weapon choices, but never to the point where you would have to repeat a single checkpoint a dozen times and memorize enemy respawns.
One thing I have to complain about is the player movement. Imo it's just too slow and doesn't fit in the boom shot experience.
Sprint isn't very helpful either, bc you can run only for 3 seconds before you get exhausted, and screen gets very blurry. Sometimes I found it a bit frustrating that my strafing speed is so slow that I can't dodge the big robots charging me, but then again - situations where I actually died bc of it can be counted on one hand.
Locations are very well put together, with great attention to detail and they showcase pretty much all the good old tricks of Unreal Engine 3 :)
Cyberpunk atmosphere is a lot denser and heavier than any boomer shooter would ever need, which is of course a big plus :)
One drawback of it is lack of variety. I wish the game would switch gears and show some different environments to break up the repetition. Bc, I have to mention - after a while it really gets repetitive. While all levels are very well designed and detailed - they're also very same-y and it started to bother me after the first 2 hours :(
To end up with something positive - I think the design of interactive buttons and interfaces to upgrade your arsenal is superb. Seamlessly mixed into the world and yet - super clear and self explanatory. Good job :D
Hard [strike] Clanker[/strike] Reset is also a very well optimized game. With all visual tricks and techniques of 7th gen gaming turned up to the max it can visually rival most indie shooters today - while taxing your pc less than internet browser :)
That's all I wanted to share with ya today. Cheers :)
Se Desviar a Atençao da Tela Ja era!
Título Focado Apenas em Açao.
boomer shooter. too spammy and pointless for my taste. and it's really old. combat isnt satisfying enough to make the shooting worth it.
Stará dobrá střílečka no...

Great shooter
doom 3,5 ?
This should have been a Cubix game (yeah, the cartoon from 2001). The combat soundtrack and the enemy design match the cartoon so well!
Here is the story line: Connor, one of the main characters, can't take any more of father's technological illiteracy and just goes off hunting every robot in Bubble City with a minigun. It's not perfect, but it would be better than this piece of ♥♥♥♥!
Abysmal dogsht. Even serious sam was less nagging with its arena battles, at least it had effects on enemies spawning in your ass.
Most unreal engine 3 looking game imaginable. Looks disgusting with all the post processing, blur you cant turn off, terrible lighting that somehow makes all surfaces and object glisten like a diddy party room.
Extraordinary game, very good graphics for it's time. Very well designed, plenty of enemies. Great combat system, variety of guns and the atmosphere that we like. A very good game.
