It's a nice short game, it has interesting plot and it's a fun way to pass a couple of hours. You need a lot of observation skills, otherwise you miss important details, that help you advance the game.
The game is clever, very much so that the hints inside the hints are pretty unique if you're not reading between the lines. I am enjoy it so far. Will have to restart it to actually follow through and write all the notes properly.

As shown in the video, the game doesn’t feature a flashy GUI—just a minimalist black-and-green text editor throughout the entire experience.
It’s a clever puzzle game, and having Notepad open definitely helps with keeping track of clues. While it might look hacker-esque at first glance, the gameplay is more about carefully digging through emails to uncover useful information and access more messages. It starts out simple but gradually becomes more challenging. Thankfully, the built-in hint system and answer reveal features keep the difficulty from becoming overwhelming.
The story is engaging, and while the ending is somewhat predictable, it still feels satisfying.
Recommended for players who enjoy a thoughtful mix of critical thinking and typing.

Hack RUN is a short but satisfying experience for anyone who enjoys command-line interfaces and uncovering secrets one command at a time. As someone tech-savvy, I appreciated the retro vibe and clever puzzles. That said, it's definitely a niche title—most players might find the text-heavy gameplay slow or unengaging. My only real gripe is the ending: [spoiler]the sudden alien twist felt out of place and weakened an otherwise grounded narrative.[/spoiler] Still, for what it is, I had a good time.
As others seemed to have mentioned the story goes a little left of field in the latter half, but talking purely from a gameplay perspective, having a game almost completely run through a terminal window is awesome and I'm keen to play the other 2 games in this series.
I do think for better gameplay, certain things like language translation and encoding/decoding into things like binary would be beneficial, as I lost immersion having to go to a real web browser for those things

This game is pretty solid and kept me entertained for a good while. The ending story took a wild turn that left me a bit confused, but the gameplay itself flows nicely. You don’t need to be a coding whiz; just a bit of brainpower and maybe a quick Google search for binary decoding will do. I spent about four hours on it, though realistically, it was more like two since I left it running while I made dinner. The gameplay is repetitive, but surprisingly fun. You’ll be figuring out usernames and passwords to read emails, and while that might sound dull, it’s actually quite amusing. The emails are hilarious, and even though you don’t see any characters, you get a glimpse into the lives of the people you’re hacking. I really enjoyed the story at first, especially how it portrays a hacker's journey. You start off getting hired to dig up dirt on a big company, but then there’s a plot twist around level 30 that feels a bit off and unrealistic. I also ran into a bug where I hacked into an account that had nothing in it, and it didn’t even notify me that I leveled up until I logged back in multiple times. That’s definitely something that needs fixing. Still, I’d recommend picking it up if you’re into puzzle games, especially since it’s only 3€ on the Google Play Store. Just keep in mind that while I liked https://store.steampowered.com/app/378110/Hack_RUN/#the game, it had a few quirks that kept it from being fully enjoyable. Some of the usernames and passwords felt like tedious guesses, often based on local references, which made cracking them a bit of a chore. It might have been a design choice, but it didn’t really add to the fun. The story also takes some bizarre turns that might not sit well with everyone.

I sure like the implementation as a normal program on desktop and the embedded websites etc.

* either answers are very obvious or guessing is required. I enjoyed it but after finding that out I tended to use the hints quickly because of how random some answers come along.

The game had an amazing story line that almost felt like going down a rabbit hole of conspiracy theories. very imaginative and a lot of thought went into this game. I can't wait to beat the other 2!
fun if you're in to this type of stuff. some of the solutions super easy and others take some thinking to figure out. One solution you absolutely need a walk through for as there is no rhyme or reason for it. Definitely need to write down everything you find.

This is a great game and I suggest that you give it a shot. In general this game has a great story line, challenging puzzles, fun codes, and lots more. This game also goes out to prove that you don't need to be a "smart" person in order to hack. And overall I had a great experience with this game so you should definitely give it a shot!

This is more of just a story. Doesn't really have anything to do with "hacking". Getting a hang of the way the UI/programs work is fairly intuitive. I'm not much for interactive stories, which this borders on, but in the end I did enjoy playing through it.
PSA:
Since this game is all about reading comprehension I took a LOT of notes during the game. I thought I'd need to build a story of minute details in order to progress later on. In fact, there was exactly ONE time that it helped, and by the time I needed that information I also knew what I needed to do to go back and get that information. You really only need to look at the very latest thing to get to the next thing and so on and so forth. Don't worry about taking a bunch of notes!
Hack RUN is a short, hacking-themed (though not very close to actual hacking) riddle game in which you're tasked to dig up some dirt on a powerful chemistry company and their mysterious expansion success. It's fairly minimal, essentially only consisting of a very basic command prompt and most of what you do in the game is to read mails on the systems you log into in order to figure out passwords for access to other systems to log into and read further mails.
While mechanically Hack RUN is very simplistic, it still tells an interesting enough story that I can generally recommend it if you're looking for a game that you can just blaze through and rack up ~50 achievements in within 2-3 hours as long as you're willing to use a bit of brains to figure out who uses which password, given the provided hints.
Note, however, that most of the riddles in this game are fairly simple, so if you're looking for something challenging you may probably want to look elsewhere. Play this game for a few hours of distraction with a somewhat interesting story. Also, don't expect tab completion or a scoped shell history, and don't ever use passwords like the fictional people in this game!
So far so good but I have to point out.
You have to complete the level tasks in specific orders else you get the message 'You are already logged in....'. This means that you have skipped a step though what you are doing may be a correct step and it even might be the very next step after the one you missed, but you cant continue till you have done the previous step(s).
This is not great as it forces you to do one step at a time. I came across this when I guessed a password but it kept coming up with that message. I had no idea what I had missed out, I had not read the message at the previous step.
However, don't let that put you off a great game.

This game's name suggests this is about "hacking", but all you are doing is searching for credentials of various users. Most of the time you can find either the actual username and/or password in plain text in text files or emails on various "user accounts". Sometimes you have to visit actual real world websites prepeared by the dev, which is a nice idea. Once, you'll even get an audio log. But from a gameplay perspective, there is nothing remarkable to find here.
And the story can't make up for that either. Even aliens and an evil pharma company won't be enough to give this game a recommendation. It's simply not worth the time.

Все эти прихваты и ужимки рудиментарной командной строки, практически dungeon-crawl-еровское обыскивание абстрактных сущностей, свой условный язык игрового управления - хороши сами по себе. Добавление “внешних” средств, вроде сайтов, видео и web сервисов - значительно обогащает как погружение, так и опыт в целом. Но кроме этого занятного набора инструментов - всё очень плохо. Это текстовый квест с текстовой же историей, написанной настолько инфантильно, нелепо и бестолково, что не знаешь смеяться или рыдать. Идиотские “вот это повороты” без развития до и после, дурацкие обороты, одномерные образы и “улики в социальной инженерии” вызывающие терминальные приступы испанского стыда. Добавим сюда полторы механики, которые умеют бажить большим количеством способов чем выполняют функций и, тем самым, затыкать прогресс намертво. Да, игра ожидает, что вам понадобится искать ответы используя браузер, но вряд ли подразумевалось, что искать придётся “исправление технических проблем”. К сожалению, [b]Hack RUN[/b] относится к тем самым ненужным 95% INDI в любимом жанре киберпанка.
Nice try, but not really worth any time or money. More of a puzzle game following simple instructions than anything else. Also, a part of the game requires you to visit a website and listen to a song to progress, like a ridiculous ad.
A lot of the times the game is inconsistent when handling case sensitivity. For instance, when entering the first workspace ("Alice"), she is mentioned with a capital A, but you need to use lowercase to progress.
At level 14, it's very confusing you have to go via Alice's account to access Frank's workstation, when you have the same credentials. Poorly instructed.
It quickly turns into a cycle of access someones account, read their emails to find password hints and accounts, and use them.
I was sad to see the game in general has very positive reviews, and this is what the game actually was.
It might be entertaining for a short while though. But, if you have any experience with Linux or hacking in general, you're going to get bored very quickly.
I'd give this game a rating of "Meh".
Side note: the game says I have 29 hours on record which isn't a good approximation of the play-through time; I accidentally left it running on another desktop and didn't come back to it for a day. Actual play time is probably about 2.5-3 hours.

First, massive negative points for accessibility problems. The game has two puzzles that are audio-only, with no captions, with one requiring listening to a song and the other being somewhat distorted spoken audio. If you have hearing impairments or otherwise are unable to play with audio, this game may not be a good choice for you.
Hack RUN combines both elements of alternate reality games (ARGs) with the hacker/programmer genre. You solve puzzles in both a simulated command line prompt, and in real-world websites, in order to gain access to more information and parts of the fictional world.
Sadly, Hack RUN falls very flat in this regard. The puzzles are cute, but not very challenging, if you've already played several games of this nature. It's missing the aesthetic of surprise that is common in better hacker/programmer games, where you solve puzzles by using old tools in novel combinations.
The world-building is also very sparse. ARGs thrive on easter eggs and extended world building; but you quickly find that most of the resources only have the bare minimum needed to move the plot forward, and all the computers you hack into are devoid of personal touches, or even the ability to learn more about characters you previously encountered once you get elevated privileges. The lack of plot up front requires a massive multi-paragraph plot dump at the end that feels pretty WTF, which is a mark of poor story-telling.
The websites you visit are...meh...and look mostly like stock templates. The links to merchandise for only a 3-hour game left me with the vague concern that it was hastily written to sell "extras", rather than being a fully-polished game in its own right.
As a plus side, the game is very newbie friendly. If you've never done any real-world programming before, the puzzles are pretty easy, with only two (a binary puzzle, and a pseudo-assembly language puzzle) that might catch non-programmers off guard. But you can always ask for a "hint" or "answer" if you get totally stuck (disclaimer: I didn't try it as part of the game, so I don't know how well either system works).

So if you're new to ARGs or the hacker/programmer genre, this may be a good place to get started and is relatively inexpensive. If you're a veteran to ARGs and hacker games, this game is just "Meh" and you may want to look for other games in the genre.

It was actually a really great experience.
If you have any interest in terminal/mainframe hacking or programming in general then you should really check the game out. You get a decent amount of immersion and authenticity. The game will even require you to navigate through some web pages to eek out clues and information to help move forward.
I was able to get through the game in about 4 hours without a guide, but I took breaks and left the game running out of fear that I might lose some progress.

I just finished this game and it was awesome. I had to keep a notepad with all the UID and PW's but it was great. This game seems to have only one downfall, there is only one ending to the game. I liked this game so much that I bought it for my phone so that I can have something to do while I'm away from my computer. I didn't even share my notepad info between the games so I have to do the work all over again. Now on to Hack Run Zero! Then I'll play the last version of Hack Time. I'll keep my eyes open for any other games you all develop.
说实话，与其说这是一款黑客游戏，不如说是一篇dos界面下的英语阅读材料。前期是比较无趣的。就是在各个员工账号之间跳来跳去，从他们鸡毛蒜皮的邮件之中找到他们的密码。真正开始有意思的是从第六、七个人左右。从Elise开始逐渐涉及到一些网页、数据库什么的（虽然本质上还是英语阅读）。这个游戏有三四个配套的网址。有的好像可以小窗打开，有的就需要用浏览器。不知道为什么我的电脑打不开，我用手机看的这些网页。这个游戏可以分为前后两部分。从你的系统崩溃，然后通过一个对文科生特别不友好的网页了解所谓的操作系统升级步骤开始后面的剧情陡然间上升到打败外星人，拯救全世界去了。而且一些操作、密码也是复杂了许多。有几步实在头晕的我直接看answer过的。值得一提的是在倒数几步还有一段英语听力等着你。这款游戏特别小众，玩的人不多。我相信发现这款游戏的人主要是想过一把黑客的瘾。如果说只是纯粹想像电影中的那样酷炫还请出门左转，hacknet什么的比较适合你，而且还有中文。这款游戏和hack run 、 hack zero 属于一家子，过程很平淡，也没有什么黑客游戏常见的计时追踪之类的压力，剧情不长不短，权当微科幻来看，不过最好还是备好小纸条或者电脑上开一个记事本，不然记不住进度或者一些需要二次用的密码。如果你打算一次性通关的话半天时间差不多就够了，如果你一路看answer的话一个小时也够了。但是游戏的本身不在于输赢，过程也有它独特的魅力。

This is a tentative recommendation, as while I enjoyed the presentation, I felt that Hack RUN had a few too many little problems for me to say it's fully fun. A lot of the usernames and passwords are guesses, and several come from regional things like common last names or songs, which made them tedious to crack. That may have been intentional, but it wasn't enjoyable. The story also jumps the shark halfway through, which is a bummer since I liked it initially.
It's something like a 6.5/10 for me, so take that as you will.

故事开始，一个平凡的小员工ALEX，某一天突然别一个神秘的邮件雇佣。神秘人提供给他一堆黑客工具，想让他找出最近公司的一些黑幕。
故事中间，ALEX通过入侵自己工作的制药公司（umbrella？）电脑，通过员工服务器、HR服务器、销售服务器、生产服务器、经过电脑被黑，女友被抓，个人被威胁，发现阴谋越来越大，从开始我认为的员工个人行为问题，上升到企业，和政府，最后竟发现黑幕背后的黑幕居然是一帮妄图通过控制政府和药厂，在药物里添加不明物质企图奴役并占领地球的外星人，而神秘人是外星人中的和平主义女性领袖。
故事最后，无敌的主角通过黑进外星人的宇宙飞船，救出了女友，并向外太空里这群外星人的天敌<超级赛亚人>发出了定位信息。超级赛亚人追杀而来，吓得这群外星人逃离了地球。主角凭借一己之力，拯救了地球，拯救了人类。
然后剩下两个问题
1、那谁来对付超级赛亚人？！不好意思，不知道，IOS版本有51章以后的内容，PC版到这就没了……难道我还要再玩一遍……
2、为什么说终于全成就了？！游戏的成就系统有个bug，就是最后一个成就，需要再本地电脑听语音，这个需要你在通关游戏之后，点一下system status才能解锁
I bought this game on the recommendation of someone in a gaming group I’m in, after they learned that I enjoy hacking sims. Hack RUN is also available on mobile if you’re interested. This is more of a glorified puzzle game than a legit simulation, so no one is going to walk away with real hacker skills.
Honestly, this game felt like a lower budget version of the very excellent ARG, The Black Watchmen, also on Steam. The storylines are vaguely similar in that you’re hacking into a mysterious pharmaceutical company to discover they are doing heinous things, and both games utilize dummy websites you can actually go to for clues to solve their puzzles. However, The Black Watchmen is superior in pretty much in every way, from user interface to story design to puzzle quality to immersion.
Hack RUN is strictly a console-like window, much like Hacknet but smaller and less attractive. The commands are very straightforward and simplistic, and quite frankly the puzzles are too if you’ve already played other similar games. You do not need to have any coding experience to play this game; there’s help commands and even a hint command to guide you in the right direction if you get stuck.
There’s a whole lot of hacking into people’s emails, which involves very repetitive steps. The later part of the story starts going off the rails as far as believability, and I lost immersion due to the ridiculousness of it, but maybe scifi fans would embrace that aspect more.
Overall, I would probably give it a neutral rating if I could. It's not the worst thing I've played this year but there's better alternatives if you're looking for something deep and rewarding.

It seems that HACK RUN is a game which includes a few computer program acknowledges and more novel-adventures.Players can find some clues through mail-swapping of NPC .In my opinion, storytelling meaning is greater than playing meaning.

The puzzles where very challenging and gave me a nice feeling though admitably I had a lot of hints. The only thing I didn't like was the fact it was an alien plot line that made a weird feeling that i would prefer without. Also i cant remember if i got this for free

Hack RUN bir dönemin bilim kurgu ögeleri olan ama günümüzde peynir ekmek gibi sıradanlaşan siber saldırı ve hektivizm (hacktivism) konusunu ele alıyor. Oyun, obezleşen görsel zevklerimizin bir türlü doyamadığı bir zamanda metin tabanlı tasarımıyla karşımıza çıkıyor. Metin tabanlı yapı kesinlikle kullanıcı dostu, ayrıca oyunun atmosferine olumlu katkı yapıyor. Fakat aynı şeyi bulmacalar için söyleyemeyeceğim. İnternete bağlanarak oyunla ilgili web sitelerini kullanma mekaniği mükemmel değil ama vasatın üzerinde diyebilirim. Ne yazık ki zorluğu dengelenmiş bulmacalar yok. Olumsuz sayabileceğim bir diğer özellik ise oyunun oyuncunun elinden çok tutması. İhtiyacımıza göre saldırı araçlarımızı kendimizin oluşturabilmesi, hem oyunun atmosferine olumlu katkı yapardı hem de oyun daha öğretici olurdu . Hikaye kimilerine iyi kimilerine kötü gelebilir.

Took me about 45 minutes to finish. Not worth it. Starting the game it keeps you interested and makes you keep going but the story line takes a weird turn and becomes dumb. Save 3 dollars.
For the price you can't beat this experience!
Great game. It was a lot of fun and had a good story to go with it. Some of the answers can be pretty tricky or no quite clear on how to proceed, so there's no shame in getting the answer online or in the game.

Not even in slightest close to any "Hacking".I dont know even why its called Hack Run ?!?!?!? maybe beacause its using a CMD like GUI?.
Gameplay open menu -> read emails -> read more emails -> read even more emails->get in OUTSIDE of game website and listen a song to find the password to advance-> more emails to read... Passwords are so obvious that they dont even need to exist in game.
Music->Nop.
Get bored after ->5-10 mins max
FileSize (They only good about it) ->4Mb (you can understand that its only text nothing more).....
Worth it? -> NNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP, just stay away of this game its pure waste of money and time....... I wouldnt touch it again even if they paid me for it!
本来以为这是一款披着黑客外衣的文字解密冒险游戏，其实就是。
但是随着一关关通过，我发现这个解密游戏不一般。
为了玩这个游戏，你需要有至少够用的英语水平（四级偏好一点差不多够了），你还需要对欧美西方文化有一定的了解，比如他们书写日期的习惯是月份+日期+年份；比如一些双关语。
你甚至需要多领域的常识积累，比如你一定要知道ACSII码这种东西是存在的，要会找。
这种游戏对我这种理工科出身的人来说真是有致命的吸引力。
我决定玩完了来写个测评，一是因为我没看到多少中文测评，二是这帮游戏开发者为了这个游戏：
真的做了好几个独立的网站；
真的创作了一首听起来还不错的歌曲；
真的编了一套简单的操作系统语言；
真的想出了一连串脑洞大开的剧情，包括贵圈真乱；
真的还弄出了一段电音录音……
现在我在玩续作hack run zero，里面文化因素和解密难度都提升了，通关了我再来。
I had fun with this game. The game mechanics are very simple and the little puzzles are simple but at least it's hard to get really stuck or lost so there's a good sense of progress.
Didn't care for the twist in the storyline but it is what it is. Overall, worth playing.
Tip: if you get tired of the bright green on black text, you can change the colors by right-clicking on the console.
This game is pretty fun, it gets a little more hard at the end so that is why I cannot beat the game really. I have tried using walkthroughs but that didn't solve the problem since I am not that smart about this game lol.
It was a fair and good game though. I recommend for people who want to hack and have a good time.

I found this game highly enjoyable and a nice change from an industry which is flooded with games where you're in the action. Futhermore I loved the puzzle solving aspects of this game and how it requires the player to move outside of the game for critical pieces of information which can be found across many different sites.
I would reccomend this game to anyone who loves solving puzzles.
This game isn't bad. Wait... yes, it is.
You see, the real pitfall of this game is the inablity to complete it without guides. By which, of course, I mean that some solutions to the "puzzles" are (quite literally) impossible to find on your own, or the game holds your hand so hard that it handicaps you whenever you try to do something even slightly off the rails of what it commands you to.
And the story? Ridiculous and anticlimactic. Can't even remember how cheap this game was when I bought it, but I personally wouldn't recommend anyone to waste a single cent or a single minute on this game; unfortunate, because the hacker premise was so promising and intriguing.

9/10 збс отлично. В одном месте конечно авторы были наркоманы проклятые, и пришлось подглядеть хинт, но в остальном прекрасный баланс между "пошевелить мозгами" и "не шевелить мозгами вообще". Примерно как косыночка, короче.
Fun linear text adventure. Its brief (finished in a couple hour sitting), but it's dramatically stupid left field ending makes it totally worth a play :)
