Fun, silly tactics game that didn't overstay its welcome.
Parody games can be hit-or-miss, and tactics games can be in-depth and require an investment. Fortunately, this was silly and relatively short for a tactics game, making it an enjoyable experience that I liked enough to play through to the end (and even play the sequel).
The Positives:
-While some of the humor was low-brow, it was a refreshing change to have silly dialog, meta references, and goofy characters, interactions, and events in a tactics game. I enjoyed it for the novelty.
-The gameplay isn't too bad. A lot of reviews knock it for being random, but I didn't really experience too much difficulty with the game until the very end where this one dungeon had some difficult enemies that required some more tactics and luck than the others. But nothing too difficult to handle.
-There is enough in the characters, abilities, and other game elements where I found it engaging enough. Again, it's the silliness of it all in contrast to the great-but-serious tactics games that make it interesting.
The Negatives:
-The graphics are just okay if that matters to you.
-I didn't have things like the bugs, RNG, or other issues mentioned, but it's mentioned enough in other reviews where I guess you should look out for them. I hadn't played it in over a decade, so sometimes new OSes cause crashes and such.
-It's not a great, epic story if that's what you want in a game. The hero isn't much of a hero, etc. That's the point of the game, though, so it's not a negative given what the game is but might not be your thing if you want epic. It strangely does build itself up despite its silliness, though, into a decent ending.
Overall, I enjoyed it enough to play the sequel (even though I told myself I wouldn't at first since I didn't think it had much more to explore in the story/parody). You have to go into the game expecting silly and just playing on the serious tactical RPG tropes if you hope to enjoy it, though. Otherwise, it won't do much for you.
Holy ♥♥♥♥, this game is amazing. I bought the trilogy for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles and i'm having a blast. This reminds me of king arthur from the PS2 but it is turn based instead of an action rpg

It's alright, could be better, but there are too many worse tittles that try to be serious to throw GT with them
Combat should have some more depth, camera some more cogs to move around properly and some jokes be of better quality, but at least it doesn't end after 3h (if that's better or worse considering it's a 5-6/10 product, I'll leave for you to decide)
A lot of crashes along the way but the story is not as bad as it looks.
unplayable in 2025, buggy and downloads extra things/ scripts to your pc via launching the game. first launch takes like 5 minutes because it downloads a bunch of nonsense. like video/audio decoder configuration, and a VFW configuration.
then on top of that the launch has many failed scripts that all have values set to 0 so you have to spam yes or no on all of these "scripts" just to have the 32bit game engine freeze on you constantly, and if you tab out it's done, windowed isn't centered to screen so if you have multiple screens you have to play with the window on multiple screens so if you have 4k to 1080p it'll have a chunk missing from your screen because it's rendering 4k on the 1080p side. then if you try and center it the game engine crashes, and if you try fullscreen the game engine doesn't run and crashes. black screens and not responding every instance. i had it running once and the ground flashed constantly and ran at 1 fps because i tried to tab out to center the screen (should turn screen off if you play windows) but after i failed centering the game engine got buggy, flashing grounds in a weird square pattern and 1 fps.
i could of played this game on windowed with only 1 screen on. but there was just so much bs and issues i'd rather uninstall instead of playing some lame ah game like this, so far my oldschool games have been 2 for 2 in the world of trash. been feeling oldschool lately. and wellllllll it's 1.5/2 unplayable. 1.5 is this game being a .5 unplayable and the other being literally unplayable. pretty sad old school games are starting to become coffins at this point.

I loved this game. It was fun, quirky, it didn't take itself too seriously and I had a blast.
It's too bad the second game was junk.
The game glitches constantly. You get stuck in combat mode or a character gets frozen in place. You have to save and get out of the game and go back in to fix it. Otherwise, it's fine. The game is fully misogynistic but in a humorous way. Turn based combat works fine, but any time you have npc allies, they will attack you instead of the enemy. If I hadn't gotten it in a three-game pack for 2.00, I would feel ripped off.

Potworna pomyłka. Groteska to mało powiedziane. Ulep jakichś bezsensownych pomysłów. żenujące postaci przypominające niedorobione postacie z mangi z nieudolnym artworkiem. Chodzisz i walczysz z muchomorami czy ki hooj wie co to za grzyby. Jedno jest pewne, że grzyby to autorzy brali i strasznie słaba faza weszła po nich.

On zaś wciela się w niesfornego młodzieńca, wydalonego z królewskiej akademii wojskowej, któremu przyjdzie zadanie uratowania całego królestwa przed nadciągającą zagładą.
Rozgrywka jest typowo klasycznie uformowana pod tym względem i polegać będzie na taktycznej (turowej) walce ze zróżnicowanym przeciwnikiem w czasie wykonywania poszczególnych misji głównych bądź pobocznych rozwijających wątek fabularny. W czasie którego gracz ma okazję zwerbować do własnych szeregów nowych śmiałków ze świata, mogących niejednokrotnie zwiększyć wasze możliwości w walce ze znacznie liczniejszym wrogiem. W czasie rozgrywki postacie otrzymują doświadczenie pozwalające im z czasem zwiększyć poszczególne wskaźniki charakteryzujące daną postać (podwyższyć jej poziom) oraz wyposażyć ją w nowo zdobyczny ekwipunek. Sprzęt kupujecie w mieście u handlarzy bądź też zdobywacie od pokonanych przeciwników – z kuferków poukrywanych po poszczególnych lokalizacjach w których się pojawicie.
To klasyczna zabawa w bardzo klasycznym stylu, dlatego też być może będzie mało ekscytująca dla młodszego grona odbiorców – wychowanych na bardziej rozbudowanych produkcjach. Pod względem technicznym nie wyróżnia się znacząco od innych gier z tego uniwersum, oprawa graficzna ma już swoje lata, system kontroli postaci jest dosyć oporny a przy czym balans poszczególnych postaci względem jednostek wroga jest nie do końca dobrze dostrojony.

If you are a fan of old school Fire Emblem and similar games, this is likely to be a very enjoyable experience.
The story isn't particularly complicated, but what there is is none the less satisfying with some interesting twists. There aren't many different locations to visit, but it none the less does a decent job of using what it does have well - and even plays it for humour at one point, highlighting that you have been to a location before.
The actual strategic systems are a bit clunky, but ultimately satisfying to master. It never feels like the difficulty comes from fighting the games systems instead of the opponents it throws at you. This said, the difficulty curve can be quite high, and because there is a finite amount of all resources in the game any early setbacks can be crippling by the end of the game. And sometimes you do need to be careful of the camera, as it can cause you to issue an unintended order in a few of the more obstructed environments.
Overall this game is obviously intended to appeal to players who like a tough challenge, but if that's not for you the developers have actually left a lot of options so that anyone can enjoy the game - beyond simple difficulty settings, the developer console (think ID Software or Valve cheat codes) is readily accessible and you don't get penalised by the game in any way for using it.
There is about 3 hours of content to be experienced here, but expect it to take about 18 hours to get through everything if you are good at these sorts of games, or about 36 hours if you find these sorts of games more challenging.

Das spiel startet schon mit script fehlermeldungen, stürzt ständig ab (vor allem vor und in dialogen) und die Steuerung ist ziemlich altbacken.
Gegen die ersten 2 dinge hilft Geduld.
Dafür ist die Geschichte ein fantastisches und lustiges Sammelsurium aller gängigen clichés mit einigen tollen Referenzen auf andere spiele wie zB Gothic (viele der Entwicker hier waren auch für Gothic mitverantwortlich).
Kein Tripple A Titel, ist es nie gewesen und wollte es auch nie sein. Aber Spaßig und das ist mehr als man von manch modernerem spiel sagen kann.
Und nochmal bezüglich der Spiel Abstürze:
Ihr habt schon mehr für schlimmeres bezahlt. Haben wir alle schon.

This game radiates a strange mixture of chad and awkward emo energy at the same time. Also the tone and theme is all over the place because the game doesn't know what it wants to be or what the over all style and theme is, its very confused, but the gameplays alright and pretty straight forward to the point of being very basic and bare bones. lol, the artstyle and gameplay make it all feel like some random teenagers first 3D video game project lol.

It looks real ugly and dialogue is real boring. I couldn't stand it for more than 15 minutes. Don't be fooled by its low price, there is a reason that it's this cheap.
Ignore playtime, I left the launcher on in the background for like a week or two without realizing it was still open.
This is a goofy turn based tactical RPG. In terms of strategy RPGs, this one is on the easier side. There is permadeath for the 'maidens', and it game overs if the two main characters die.
All in all this game is a parody of many RPG tropes. Very heavily makes fun of the Ultima series and the whole 'chosen one' narrative. The main character isn't even the chosen one, but rather the secondary party member, and he's so full of himself like a celebrity who feels he deserves his fame. Its funny, but not like, side-stitchingly so. Its not incredibly long, the achievement list is pretty easy to accomplish as well, so long as you follow the guide someone made so you don't miss anything.
EDIT: Game Finished. Review still stands. I didn't realize at the time but there's no perma-death, the angel in town can rez your characters for a fee. Its fairly short. There are no cloud saves, so when my hard drive crashed, this was one of the games I lost progress on, and had to restart, and since this happened to me once before, not saving the save game when I bought this hard drive in the first place, I figured I should finally beat it. There really are only 4 weapons/armor for each character, with 3 being purchasable from the shop and the 4th dropping near the end of the main story from enemies.

Ja, ich wäre gerne mit dem Holy Avatar in Abenteuer gezogen, wenn da nur nicht die ständigen Abstürze wären. Fangen wir aber mal mit der Grafik an, ja, man merkt, das Spiel ist von 2010, die Texturen wirken etwas verwaschen und manchmal ist es mit der "Beleuchtung" zu gut gemeint, dann erkennt man nichts mehr, außer helles Licht. Die Vertonung ist sehr gut (komplett deutsch), auch die Texte lassen sich ganz gut lesen. Was nicht so gut rüberkommt, ist die gefühlte Zähigkeit der Dialoge, nach jedem Dialog muss man klicken, damit es weitergeht, auch die Steuerung im Kampf könnte besser sein. Was aber der richtige Abtörner ist, sind die ständigen Abstürze des Spiels und damit verbunden, das Laden eines Speicherstands (so man denn gespeichert hat) und das erneute Spielen bis zur "Absturzstelle". Nach dem zweiten Absturz denkt man dann krampfhaft ans Speichern nach jedem Schritt und wenn man sich dann doch mal in die Story hat hineinziehen lassen, wird man direkt durch den Absturz und der Feststellung, dass man vor viel zu langer Zeit gespeichert hat, abgestraft. Wenn man erst gar nicht ins Spiel versinken kann, hilft es leider auch nichts, wenn sich da vielleicht eine gute Geschichte versteckt.

Taktyczny RPG, niestety zdecydowanie z niższej półki. Kierujemy młodym kandydatem na rycerza, któremu udało się jakimś cudem oblać egzamin (polegający na pokonaniu najsłabszego potwora w grze, przerośniętego muchomora). Przybity niepowodzeniem postanawia skończyć ze sobą, rzucając się na pożarcie rzeczonemu grzybkowi. Od niechybnej śmierci ratuje go Bohater Ludzkości, Rycerz Światła i Jego Skromna Półboskość (a przy tym gość obdarzony naprawdę potężnym przerostem ego) informując przy okazji, że w wielkiej bitwie polegli wszyscy rycerze królestwa - łącznie ze świeżo mianowanymi - i to na barkach głównego bohatera spoczywać będzie zadanie uratowania świata (a przynajmniej najbliższej okolicy) przed najazdem mrocznych sił.
Sama rozgrywka sprowadza się do eksploracji kolejnych map, przez które prowadzeni jesteśmy przez proste questy. W razie napotkania przeciwnika rozgrywka płynnie przechodzi w tryb taktyczny (dorysowując siatkę kwadratów na istniejącej mapie i przełączając tryb poruszania się na turowy). Gra ma stanowić parodię gatunku i pop kultury jako całości, regularnie naśmiewając się z typowych klisz fabularnych.
Niestety, odnoszę czasem wrażenie, że parodie przeważnie tworzą studia, które nie są w stanie pokazać niczego unikalnego od siebie, a tego typu produkcje często są nie najwyższych lotów i same nie ustrzegają się od wad, które piętnują. W tej grze fabuła jest nudna, postacie przerysowane do przesady, co szybko przestaje śmieszyć, podobnie jak wciskane na siłę gagi. Jeśli doda się do tego absolutnie tragiczną pracę kamery (niemalże żyje ona własnym życiem, pokazując wszystko, tylko nie to, co gracz chce zobaczyć, a w miejscach o zróżnicowanej wysokości dosłownie tańczy po całym ekranie) i wypalający oczy bloom, otrzymamy obraz gry, którą lepiej ominąć szerokim łukiem.

Ich hätte das Spiel wirklich gerne zu Ende gespielt, aber die rng-Crashes sind einfach ein völliger Stimmungskiller und auch echt no-go. Nach dem ersten habe ich zwar gelernt quasi nach jeder Aktion F5 zu drücken, aber selbst wenn es "nur" ein intensiver Kampf mit 10, 15 Gegnern ist, wenn dann wieder nen Error kommt und man auf dem Desktop landet, das macht einfach keinen Spaß.
Darüber hinaus ist das Besondere an "Grotesque", dieser angepriesene "deutsche Humor" eher so schwankend zwischen Fremdschäm, Pubertät und schwachem Grinsen. Die Ingame-Soundeffekte sind nicht schmierig, sondern nervig. Die "leichtbekleideten Jungfrauen" sollen wohl so was wie ne Gesellschaftskritik an Videospielen und toxischer Männlichkeit sein (oder die EntwicklerInnen meinen es knallernst und finden es einfach geil, wer weiß schon...)
Dazu kommt die Graphik, die zwar besser war als erwartet, aber natürlich kein Augenschmaus. Die Steuerung mit Maus oder WASD wirkt modern, verhält sich aber aufgrund des taktischen Gefechts und der Spielzugfelder sehr klobig, in und außerhalb von Kämpfen.
Trotz all dem gibt es auch einiges Positives, die Comiczeichnungen oder die (übertriebenen) Sprecher. Ich glaube, die Geschichte und ihre popkulturellen Anspielungen hätte Potential gehabt. Vermutlich hätte ich dem Game nach 6-8 Stunden ne solide 6-7/10 gegeben. Aber, wie gesagt, Absturz-City verhindert das. Da diese Error und Crashes nicht speziell bei mir und meinem Setup, sondern quasi überall von anderen berichtet werden, such ich da auch keine Patches für dieses Uraltgame. Vermutlich kommt die Programmierung einfach nicht mit modernen Setups klar. Ich hoffe zumindest, dass das beim Release nicht auch schon so war, ansonsten oh weia für "deutsche Spiele"...

[b][u]Rundenstrategie mit Hindernissen[/u][/b]
Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes ist ein [b]SRPG (Strategie Rollenspiel)[/b] und die [b]rundenbasierten[/b] Kämpfe finden direkt auf der Umgebungskarte statt. Jeder Kampfteilnehmer kann sich, wenn er am Zug
ist, frei in seinem Bewegungsradius bewegen, Items einsammeln, Tränke schlabbern und natürlich Angreifen oder Verteidigen. Der Zug des Helden endet erst, wenn er sich entweder für den Angriff, eine Fähigkeit oder die Verteidigung entschieden hat. Alternativ kann man auch bis ende der Runde warten und dann eine Aktion tätigen.
Jeder Held kann bis zu [b]zwei Fähigkeiten[/b] erlernen, die nur er (oder sie) besitzt. Die Auswahl umfasst gewöhnliche Schadensfähigkeiten, Heilzauber sowie Buffs und D-Buffs. Sogar das einschläfern oder Zeitweise Unterwerfung des Feindes ist möglich.
Eine andere Besonderheit jedes Helden ist dessen [b]Obsession[/b], die Freigesetzt wird, sobald sich seine Obsessionsleiste gefüllt hat, was je nach Helden auch auf unterschiedliche Weise stattfindet. Erwähnenswert ist, dass die Obsession so ziemlich immer ein zweischneidiges Schwert ist, da der hauseigene Barbar, wenn er austickt auch gern mal die eigenen Leute angreift, wenn sie sich in Schlagweite befinden oder der halbgöttliche Held durch seine ruhmreichen Geschichten auch die eigenen Leute einschläfert, wenn sie zu nahe stehen.
[b][u]Ressourcenmanagement[/u][/b]
Nach fast jeder Mission kommt man wieder in die Stadt, wo alle (nicht kampfunfähigen) Gruppenmitglieder komplett geheilt werden.
Hier kann man auch Ausrüstung sowie Tränke kaufen. Letztere hinterlassen nach Benutzung eine leere (Pfand-)Phiole, die ebenso wieder für etwas Gold verkauft werden kann.
Ausrüstung, die man nicht mehr braucht, kann für den Kaufpreis wieder beim Händler verkauft werden.
[b][u]Meckern auf hohem Niveau[/u][/b]
Bei aller strategischen Tiefe muss man allerdings auch erwähnen, dass das Spiel und die Levelmechanik ziemlich [b]geradlinig[/b] ist. Helden, die aufleveln bekommen automatisch Attributspunkte und erlernen auch automatisch ihre Skills. Jeder hat zwar eine Reihe von Waffen und Rüstungen zur Auswahl, aber ein stück ist objektiv besser als das andere, was das Experimentieren mit Skills und Ausrüstung eher sinnlos macht. Lediglich Accessoires bieten eine kleine Möglichkeit für Individualität.
[b]Vor Kämpfen[/b] ist es unmöglich, die Partymitglieder strategisch vorteilhaft zu platzieren, da sich die komplette Gruppe einfach dem Anführer hinterher bewegt und beim Stehenbleiben etwas einnimmt, was wohl als Formation gelten soll. Eher ist es so, dass sie sich unvorteilhaft positionieren. So ist es schon öfter vorgekommen, dass der Tank recht abseits des Schlachtfeldes stand, als es dann mal los ging.
Hin zu kommt die Verteilung der [b]Erfahrung[/b] unter den Mitgliedern.
Alle bekommen für abgeschlossene Quests Erfahrung. Für das Angreifen eines Gegners oder die Versetzung des Todesstoßes bekommt allerdings nur der jeweilige Charakter Erfahrung. Dadurch, dass Gegner bzw erhaltbare Erfahrung im Spiel begrenzt vorhanden ist, kann hier schnell mal ein Graben zwischen den Leveln der Kämpfer und der unterstützenden Truppen entstehen bzw werden Charaktere, die nicht all zu stark zuhauen können, um Gegner zu erledigen, auch schwach bleiben. Charaktere, die Gegner mit Giften und Blutungszuständen zusetzen können, leveln wie von allein, da jedes Mal, wenn Gegner schaden durch diese Zustände erleiden, der Verursacher Erfahrung bekommt.
[b]Gold[/b] ist auch so ein Faktor, allerdings nicht so sehr begrenzt, wie die Erfahrung. Kampfunfähige Charaktere müssen bei der lokalen Heilerin wieder aufgepäppelt werden, was Gold kostet. Gold ist wie Erfahrung nur begrenzt vorhanden. Tränke kosten eben so Gold.
Fairer Weise muss man erwähnen, dass man im absoluten Härtefall auch den Schwierigkeitsgrad herunterdrehen kann.
Relativ häufig kommt es außerdem zu [b]Spielabstürzen[/b].

Das Spiel ist in drei Schwierigkeitsgraden spielbar, die jederzeit verändert werden können. Zusätzlich kann im Kampf gespeichert werden und es stehen einige freie Speicherstände zur auswahl

Der Soundtrack ist okay.
Die Grafik gemäß dem alter des Spiels nicht die beste und durch den unnötigen Tag-Nacht Zyklus kann das Spiel teils sehr dunkel werden, wodurch man Gegner oder umgebungsdetails nur schwer erkennt.
Für die Steuerung reichen Maus und Tastatur.

Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes ist ansich kein schlechtes Spiel, krankt aber auf technischer Ebene an einigen Stellen, was durchaus am Alter des Spiels liegen kann. Außerdem sind einige Gameplayaspekte (in meinen Augen) schlicht nicht mehr Zeitgemäß. Für 9.99€ Vollpreis währe es ohne die Bugs recht anständig, allerdings würde ich es lediglich für einen Großzügigen Rabatt für etwa ein bis zwei Euro noch anpreisen.
Für eine Kaufempfehlung reicht es dieses Mal leider nicht.

Bardzo specyficzna gra z własnym wydaniem opowieści. Oczywiście nieco sztampowe od zera do bohatera, z ciekawym zakończeniem. Mechanicznie gra jest turowa, bez żadnego większego łał, ale za to nadrabia stylem narracji. Polecam aby zagrać dla osób które chciałyby zagrać dla fabuły i na jednorazowe posiedzenie, bo podczas drugiego podejścia traci swoją wyjątkowość.

A fun short tactics game. The Story is nothing huge, boiling down to a typical unlikely heroes being awesome plot, but the protagonist, deuteragonist and the rest of the troop all have their moments drawing fun from the RPG and pop culture cliches without being too cocky about it.
The best part comes from the tactics gameplay and most of all from the Obsession meter which unleashes on full an ultimate move that can turn the tide of battle, but can only be interacted with by careful planning so heroes and enemies bring about the situations needed for filling it.
Unfortunately some bugs happen from time to time so saving often is a must.
Still definitely recommended and do check out the next in the series as well.

Vorweg, ich bin einer der Devs und dieses Spiel war unser Erstlingswerk mit viel Herzblut, was aber eure Meinung nicht beeinflussen sollte!
Ja, das Spiel ist ein Nieschienspiel. Es spricht Spieler an die auf Parodien stehen, einen spezielleren Humor und am besten deutsch sprechen, da Wortspiele und Co sich einfach sehr schlecht übersetzen lassen. Die Grafik ist mittlerweile alt aber immer noch okay, der Kampf ist nicht für jedermann, aber man kann die Schwierigkeit runterdrehen wenn man einfach hier und da mal einen guten Lacher mitnehmen will. Nach etlichen Jahren spiele ich das Spiel wieder und genieße meine Nostalgie.
Es ist ein Spiel für Liebhaber dieses Humors, und eben jene werden sich dort wohlfühlen, kein Stratege, kein heavy story fan. :) Für 99 cent (zur Zeit) kann man sich gerne den Humor einfach mal anschauen und ansonsten noch nen Refund machen wenn er einen nicht zusagt - man verliert also nichts, aber gewinnt vielleicht eine gute Zeit.
Danke an die Leute die meinen Streams zur Zeit beiwohnen um mit mir nochmal die alten Spiele von uns anzusehen, und danke an alle die sich damals und heute noch in unsere "Perlen" verliebt haben. Mir bedeutet es endlos viel. :)

Okay so let me start off by saying I would and wouldn't recommend this game!
I'd recommend it for playing the story and the comedy and I wouldn't recommend it because in my 5 hour play through it was easily approaching 100+ crashes.
Why I would recommend the game
- Short digestible Story
- Humorous (many pop cultural references)
- Standard tacticsesque game that scratches that itch
- Easy for beginners to the RPG tacts genre
- Decent soundtrack
- Story is fairly decent for what it is
- has a speed up option for battles to speed up the animations
Why I wouldn't recommend it
- You will spend as much time saving/loading and restarting the game as you will playing it. This is outright the biggest reason you'll have for not wanting to play
- (If you want an in-depth world building tactics game this isn't it, it's short and basic and here really to just entertain and give you some cheap laughs.
- Filled with bugs
There really isn't many cons outside of the constant and I mean constant crashing of the game. I purchased this game years ago and at the time I played half way through it before not returning but not due to crashes, I don't even recall it crashing. I picked the game back up in 2021 to tick it off the "complete" list and started from scratch and if it wasn't for the cheap laughs and me knowing it was a short game I would have given up on it.
There are seriously so many bugs with the game, most commonly combat not ending when it should which means you are stuck on the level and unable to move on. The fix for that is to 'Save' and 'load' and it will bring you back to the 'explore' state which allows you to talk to Holy Avatar (the character that lets you progress from each level). I had bugs where my characters were flung off into the void of out of bounds and I couldn't do anything with their turn meaning that again I need to reload, There are tonnes of softlocks in the game where you need to hard execute the game and by the way this wouldn't let me control my mouse when using task manager so for those out there that may see this the keyboard shortcut to 'end task' is ALT+E. So the crashes seem to occur when I levelled up, purchased items, sold items, started dialogue, killed an enemy clicked to move too quickly, basically anything and everything will cause the game to crash and you will find yourself having to save almost after ever turn of combat as it's frustrating needing to go through the battle over and over again. Fortunately it does have an autosave which happens usually at the start of a new level.
I guess realistically I should not be recommending this game as it's almost unplayable however if you can force yourself to fight through the 10's if not 100's of crashing and bugs the game is actually funny and the characters are genuinely likeable.
To quote the potion seller if asked would I recommend this game, "yes, no, NO!, of course not, Maybe?"
Gra, która nic nie bierze na poważnie i naigrywa się z każdego schematu, który akurat udało im się w niem upchnąć. Humor zazwyczaj dość prosty i oczywisty, ale parę razy zdarzyło mi się uśmiechnąć pod nosem. Momentami zaskakująco taktyczna i złośliwa. Grafika dosyć bolesna dla oczu, muzyka nie wybija się.
Taki prosty średniaczek 3/5, dobry do wzięcia za darmo czy na przecenie.

Probably the shortest RPG game I have played by-far , but not the easiest ones. The gameplay may or may not draw-in everyone to the character environments and enemies fights. Honestly, the fights are somewhat confusing, your character has certain number of moves within which you have to get near enemy in your turn. So, turn based combat satirical strategy. You will hire almost 10 characters giving you company to deal with hordes of repetitive monsters and combat styles that lies ahead. The ending may seem excruciatingly difficult and one who is not drawn in too much can easily give up in midway (even in the easiest of difficulty setting (Trust me on this(I'm not kidding(OK, Play and prove me wrong)))). The gameplay is little slow , thanks to the developers who already knew this and included 2X times feature on the main screen allowing an impatient user to move faster so that we can march forward in our quest to start a new game immediately after this one. Speaking of humor element, well, it would be funnier if they had slightly more budget as you literally have to go through text box and read the messages in order to get the joke. Not even a single player says anything on his/her voice. Its just a text based dialogue. But yeah, most of them are funny and I will use them to exchange with my friends too.
So, overall, the only thing that is little distracting , slow gameplay and repetitive combat style and urn-based feature. For me its 50-50 of good and bad . Okay, 40-60. Come on, just kidding, its 45-55.....

It's an enjoyable casual game if you like rather schoolboy prank kind of humor and don't expect too much from the RPG and strategy part. Even though the 3D engine feels dated, the vibrant colors and cartoonish style makes up for that and the outdoors are looking really nice.
For the tactics there are some good ideas such as the obsession mechanism that forces to think about character placement, but the combat system overall lacks depth and the encounters are quickly becoming repetitive and too lengthy. The fact that some maps are recycled is not helping.
The game being satirical, it's using the old trick of having a baseline story which is very cliché and gets derided for that: it's obviously not very original but that's working. There are funny references to movies and other games that are to be found.
One technical issue is that the auto-camera is a bit annoying at times, but nothing critical here.

To advance in Grotesque Tactics, the player must explore areas and fight enemies frequently. By defeating opponents and completing quests, he collects experience points for all participating characters, which lead to higher levels with a certain number. With new levels, the characters learn new skills and the use of new equipment and increase their combat attributes. The main starting point of the player-controlled group is a village called Station Wish, where the group can get new quests, heal fallen comrades, rest and buy healing potions, better weapons and armor. These are required in order to survive the increasingly difficult battles. Dem jungen Rekruten Drake misslingt die Prüfung für die Militärakademie. Es wird ihm verweigert, für sein stolzes Königreich Glory zu kämpfen. Gedemütigt und frustriert will er sich in den Rachen brutaler Pilze stürzen. Doch da bemerkt Drake, dass er nicht der Einzige ist, der sich enttäuscht das Leben nehmen will. Ihm begegnen die letzten, depressiven Reste der Königstruppen, die schwer verletzt aus einer alles entscheidenden Schlacht zurückkehren. Aus genau der Schlacht, die Drake verwehrt geblieben ist. Zu den Überlebenden gehört der bekannteste Held der Menschen: Holy Avatar. Der arrogante Ritter in glänzender Rüstung erzählt, wie eine plötzlich auftauchende Sekte die gesamte königliche Armee vernichtet hat. Das Land Glory wird von den Kreaturen der Dark Church überrollt. Bevor die Bevölkerung davon erfährt und Panik ausbricht, soll man schnellstmöglich eine Truppe rekrutieren, die die Dark Church zurückschlagen kann. Da alle heldenhaften Männer in diesem Land gefallen oder schwer verletzt sind, bleiben nur noch zwielichtige Gestalten im Hochsicherheitskerker übrig. Sie gründen die Evil Heroes!
Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes ist ein Taktik-Rollenspiel, in dem man bis zu zehn Charaktere, die man zusätzlich zur Hauptfigur Drake im Laufe des Spieles einsammelt, durch eine Reihe von Gebieten, Dungeons und Kämpfen steuert. Das Spiel wird in einer "Top-down"-Perspektive angezeigt; das Geschehen sieht der Spieler stets von schräg oben. Um in Grotesque Tactics voranzuschreiten, muss der Spieler Gebiete erforschen und häufig gegen Feinde kämpfen. Durch das Besiegen von Gegnern und Erfüllen von Quests sammelt er für alle teilnehmenden Charaktere Erfahrungspunkte, die mit bestimmter Anzahl zu höheren Leveln führen. Mit neuen Leveln erlernen die Charaktere neue Fähigkeiten und den Umgang mit neuen Ausrüstungsgegenständen und steigern ihre Kampfattribute. Der Hauptausgangspunkt der vom Spieler gesteuerten Gruppe ist ein Dorf namens Station Wish, in dem die Gruppe neue Quests erhalten, gefallene Kameraden heilen, ausruhen und Heiltränke, bessere Waffen und Rüstungen kaufen kann. Diese werden benötigt, um die schwieriger werdenden Kämpfe zu bestehen. So lernt zum Beispiel der Charakter Holy Avatar eine Flächenschadenattacke, die es ihm erlaubt, mehrere Gegner gleichzeitig anzugreifen.

Okay I think since I managed to finish this game somehow I think I qualify to review this game.
Before you buy this game think twice. This game is full of bugs and prone to crashing. I had an iron-will so I managed to finish it somehow and I don't regret it. For it's budget, it's a decent game. Nothing fancy and flashy here. You're probably gonna buy it on a sale and if you do then I'm assuming you'd not pay more than $0.50 which is a fair price. My gameplay here shows around 14.3hr but this is not true. On several occasions my game crashed and I had not saved so I had to suffer and because of this I was forced to re-do many different levels. At best the game offers around 8-9hrs legit gameplay and nothing more than that.
If you want to run this game with less crashes then turn off the fancy game settings before you launch it. This method is not completely accurate but it'll reduce the amount of crashes and game freeze. It supports 1080p resolution and runs on Windows 10 too but the game optimization is very poor and sometimes it runs like ♥♥♥♥. Most of the times you will not be able to run this at 60 stable frames.
Do I recommend this game?
Yes I do but only if you get it in a sale. For it's sale price it's totally worth it. I would say not a bad deal if you do not pay anything more than $0.50
Ok, es ist ganz witzig, wenn auch etwas langatmig. Grafisch sieht es aus, als wenn die Designer im Drogenrausch waren, als sie das Spiel ausgearbeitet haben. Damit könnte ich ja noch leben, vor allem, da der Humor in diesem Spiel an manchen Tagen genau das ist, was ich brauche.
Aber was mich so richtig davon überzeugt, daß die Programmierer bekifft oder anderweitig zugedröhnt waren, sind die dauernden Abstürze des Spiels. Mal stürzt es nach Stunden ab, kurz bevor man speichern möchte, manchmal nach wenigen Minuten. Es ist nie vorhersehbar, wann das Spiel sich verabschiedet. Und das raubt den Spielspaß ganz gewaltig. Leider habe ich das Paket mit allen 3 dieser Spiele gekauft, aber ok, war billig. Trotzdem - gebt euer Geld sinnvoller aus. Andere Spiele, etwas Bier, Naschkram, irgendwas. Aber für dieses Spiel ist es reine Verschwendung, dann könnt ihr eure Kohle auch mir schenken ;-) ich werde diese 3 Spiele jedenfalls von meinem PC tilgen.

This is a tactical turn-based RPG with a heavy focus on humor and well-written dialogue. Compared to most other tactical RPGs, the gameplay mechanics here are simplified and story progression is completely linear. This game was created to parody other famous videogames and the RPG genre in general, and it greatly succeeds in that aspect. Tons of references to other videogames and pop culture are scattered thoughout the game; true gamers will definitely have a lot of fun recognizing all the jokes and references to videogame tropes and franchises.
The story follows a young protagonist, Drake, and his mentor, the established hero Holy Avatar, as they set off on an adventure to recruit a ragtag party of antiheroes and save the kingdom from an evil force. This is very much an on-rails experience; you move from one map to the next by clearing the story objectives and interacting with the Holy Avatar to be transported to the next map. There is no free exploration or side quests, though there are certain parts of the game that is intentionally designed to feel like filler content and the game acknowledges this and uses this to poke fun at the habit of RPG players having to finish every side quest before entering the final dungeon. You'll be revisiting the certain areas in the second half of the game but because the game shuffles the order in which you visit locations well enough, it doesn't feel repetitive.
The combat is surprisingly fun and easy to pick up due to the simplified RPG mechanics. Battles take place on a grid and each unit takes turns to move, attack and use skills. Each character learns up to three skills once they meet the level requirements and there is no freedom in stat progression or builds. While this might sound restrictive, I found it incredibly refreshing to be able to just enjoy a RPG without worrying about whether I made the right choice in stat distribution or learning the wrong skills. The challenge in most of these battles boils down to positioning on the battlefield. The enemy AI is ironically incredibly smart due to its simplistic programming, and always goes out of the way to target your weaker party members and ignore the tank. There is no aggro management in this game due to the absence of aggro generation skills, so you'll have to rely on more creative tactics to protect your characters such as positioning melee fighters to wall off access to ranged attackers, delaying weaker party members' turns till after the enemy has moved so they can move into range and attack without being under threat, positioning characters on more defensive terrain (certain tiles on the grid grant bonus defence and reduce movement) and using Angelina the healer's defensive buff skill.
There is a whopping total of 10 party members (thankfully none are missable) and they all participate in battle at the same time. Battles become more exciting as the game progresses and the number of party members in battle increases. Each character has a unique personality defining Obsession meter which adds an element of unpredictability to battles. Obsessions are usually a double edged sword and can have both positive and negative effects. For example, the Holy Avatar's Obsession meter builds when he attacks and once filled, he gives a speech about one of his previous glorious accomplishments and causes everyone around him (both allies and enemies) to fall asleep. Angelina the healer's Obsession meter builds when she takes damage and once filled, she flies into a rage, blames the party for not protecting the healer and unleashes a devastating attack on the nearest party member. For the most part, these Obsessions are pretty funny and can save your characters in a pinch; the drawbacks don't threaten your party's survival (at least until lategame).
The game is well balanced but certainly not a cake walk on Easy difficulty; I had to reload several battles nearing the end of the game and try different tactics as enemies are smart enough to gang up on one ally and position themselves to hit multiple party members.
There is a decent amount of sexual humor and references in this game thanks to the scantily clad female characters (including the aptly named trio of half naked maidens ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) and the clothes-sniffing goblin rogue. This game also humorously pokes fun at diversity and stereotypes in videogames (West the black barbarian calls Drake out on this ingame ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ). Personally, I am thankful for the portrayal of the pervert goblin rogue Rukel and feel truly represented, speaking as a panty sniffer and connoisseur myself in real life. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) The female characters are appropriately dressed in proper fantasy gear, skimpy bras and loincloths, corsets and minidresses that offer absolutely zero protection. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) The half naked maidens actually point this out in the game and remind you to keep them out enemy range behind the beefier men as they are extremely fragile. Unfortunately, due to the game's dated graphics, the female models aren't detailed enough to be arousing, but I appreciated the way the girls described their titillating bodies and clothing in explicit detail. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
The game natively supports up to 1920 x 1080 resolution and 144Hz framerate, which I highly appreciated. I experienced one crash upon launching the game for the first time due to the installation of some necessary component for the game to run on modern day systems, but other than that I did not encounter any bugs, glitches or crashes throughout my entire 15 hour playthrough. I was able to run the game smoothly with no lag on my state-of-the-art Alienware 17 R4 gaming laptop.
The only criticism I have for this game is the floaty camera. The camera tends to slide all over the place when moving it to view the surrounding areas in the map, though it was just a minor nuisance to me. I didn't encounter any issues with moving characters around on the map as some other reviews mentioned; you can rotate the camera with the Q and E keys and reset the camera position with the 5 key on the numeric pad.
It really saddens me to see how far modern day gaming has deteriorated when I have to admit that this is one of the most enjoyable RPGs I have played in the last 5 years, and its a game made in 2010. I highly recommend this game if you're fed up with all the woke garbage agenda, microtransactions, DLC and unkept promises plaguing modern day gaming and just wanna enjoy a simple RPG with fun gameplay, awesome writing, lots of comedy and videogame references, and sexy, attractive female characters who know how to act feminine.

75% bei Gamestar und 65% Metacritic, joa das ist schwarzer Humor, davon hätte das "Game" auch etwas vertragen können.
I enjoyed this game for a good 3 hours, very good writing and funny characters. The game system is not too complex but will make you go deeper in the battle mechanics as the game progress.
The combat system reminded me a bit of Final Fantasy Tactics and the likes.
One annoying point is the camera, preventing you to see precisely where you move at times.
I encountered a game breaking bug at 3 hours, some items which should appear simply don't and I cannot exit the map anymore.
I could restart a game (I mean I'm only 3 hours in....) but given I have a huge backlog of games this is really game breaking and the end for me.
I'll still check the second opus of this serie later on, I had quite a good time, albeit very short.

In this world there are good games, there are bad games (a lo-o-o-ot of bad games...) and those games that are neither good, nor bad. And [b]Grotesque Tactics[/b]? It's of the last ones. Long story short – it's a pretty basic parody-oriented turn-based [b]RPG[/b]. It isn't especially well-made, it isn't especially comfortable, the jokes are not that funny (even though I've seen way worse, especially in cheap games from [b]Germany[/b]), it doesn't look that good, there's just a few small maps and the entire game is pretty much a short series of (very) basic missions.
On the other hand, it doesn't feel bad enough to make you hate it. Not even close. As long as you don't mind the old school turn-based games, this game can provide you enough basic fun to spend a weekend with it. Like I've said, [b]Grotesque Tactics[/b] is one of those games that make you want having at least a “meh” button in [b]Steam[/b]. It's a basic turn-based game that doesn't aim for the stars and doesn't achieve anything special. But at the same time, it's totally playable.
Should you choose it over many others? Probably not. Even though turn-based games are not nearly as popular as they used to be back in the days, [b]Steam[/b] can still offer more than solid selection of new ones for you. Will you feel bad about paying [b]$9.99[/b] / [b]£6.99[/b] for it? I don't think so either. The biggest problem with [b]Grotesque Tactics[/b] is that there's nothing special about it. Literally nothing. I can't even write longer review. Just because there's almost nothing to say here. Even the concept of having a party made of losers and so-called [b]Holy Avatar[/b] (hello, [b]Ultima[/b] fans) can't change that. [b]Grotesque Tactics[/b] just isn't special enough. Back in the days, when every new game felt like a treasure, this one would stand a chance. Nowadays, when we're limited only by our wallets and free time? It just isn't something to make you seriously care. Play it, or ignore it. It won't change much.
Relatively short mouse-based tactical rpg that tries to be “funny”...but ends up being kinda dumb. I wasn’t wild about the interface and wasn’t particularly enthralled by the tale of a suicidal military school dropout and the Holy Avatar saving scantily-clad maidens together.
funny story, horrible gameplay(for a strategy game is missing a LOT of useful elements) and with a LOT of bugs(mutiple saves are a must), it feels unfinished, the game at tops it will give you around 15 hours of gameplay.

It's ugly as hell, slow pace, clunky, no voice overs but before you do anything there will be half of the book of dialog, combat is meh, everything is meh, humor is ok but it's not worth it.
On what annoyed me even before I opened the game is when you run game your screen will blinks like christmas light changing resolutions and what not so if you have many beautifully, hand placed icons on your desktop it will all go to shait,
Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes est un RPG tactique humoristique qui parodie les jeux de rôle classiques tout en empruntant leur gameplay au tour par tour. On y incarne Drake, un héros dépressif qui rejoint un groupe de personnages complètement barrés pour sauver un royaume déjà perdu.
Le jeu ne se prend jamais au sérieux : dialogues absurdes, clichés volontairement exagérés, et un ton métaparodique qui se moque des tropes du genre. C’est ce qui fait son charme… mais aussi sa faiblesse.
Le gameplay est correct sans être profond : quelques bonnes idées dans les combats, mais une IA limitée, une répétitivité qui s’installe vite, et une interface un peu datée. Techniquement, c’est du budget modeste, avec des animations raides et une caméra parfois capricieuse.
💭 En résumé : une parodie sympathique pour les fans de RPG old-school, mais qui mise plus sur l’humour que sur la profondeur du gameplay.

(Drôle et original, mais un peu trop bancal pour vraiment convaincre sur la durée.)
