Il tutorial l'ho trovato poco friendly per chi non sa guià le regole del gioco da tavolo (come me), ma alla fine (con i tutorial di YouTube e l'esperienza con altri giochi) non è stato un vero problema. Il gioco in sé è sempre impegnativo, persino al livello più facile. Mi piace, ma non oso immaginare a livelli difficili quanto diventi difficile procedere nella campagna! Però è bello: buona grafica, musica, meccanica... Io l'ho comprato per aiutarmi a impadronirmi delle regole del gioco da tavolo (che acquistai, ma che ha milioni di pezzi, miniature, dungeon, e pagine di regole e che è ancora lì nella sua scatola originale... sono un collezionista compulsivo di giochi da tavolo, ma talvolta richiedono davvero molto spazio e tempo per essere giocati e il videogame risolve questi aspetti).

This is a shortened review since I did not finish Gloomhaven and am only comfortable rating the parts that I can speak about.

I found the mechanics to be not good. Maybe it’s the long time D&D nerd in my speaking, but every aspect of the mechanics here directly clashed with how I engage with games as a player. Aside from the massive difficulty/learning curve, the gameplay is based around sacrifice and time constraints.
This is a card-based game where you pick 2 cards and each card has 2 abilities, a top and a bottom. You must play a top part and a bottom part of the card that you choose. This means that while your choices are numerous, you are losing out on using half of your abilities by being forced to choose 1 and not the other. You will eventually, and often quickly, run out of cards within a few turns and having to do a long or short rest, in which you permanently remove 1 card from this battle, and get your other cards back, so this at least gives you the potential to use the other ability, but you are always losing out on using abilities every time.
As I mentioned with the short and long rest to gain cards back requiring you to permanently remove a card (Burn) from this battle, if you run out of cards, then that character is effectively dead for this encounter. This means that you have a strict time limit on how long encounters last.

The difficulty is just wild. The starting combat encounters are probably the hardest the game will ever be. I have failed it on Easy and Normal mode numerous times. The game does an absolutely terrible job at having a good difficulty progression.
You can have up to 4 characters at once, and the game scales depending on if you have 2, 3, or 4 in your party. Combats consist of multi-room engagements where you are often massively outnumbered and must use every ability efficiently due to the issue of constantly running out of cards, whether its through natural usage or cards that burn themselves. That’s right, the best abilities can only even be used a single time before the card is deleted from the combat, further quickening your characters demise.

Seems okay, if a bit simplistic. The animations and fidelity remind me of something like PS3-era graphics.

On the technical side, the game runs okay, and I had no issues.
I did encounter many bugs. Things like line of sight, of which there are 2 options for how this works, allowed enemy archers to pepper me through walls using both options, so I’m not sure if line of sight is bugged or what.
Multiplayer, while it did work for me and my parter, was a cumbersome experience, with having to have 1 person make the game and choose all the options while the other person is only along for the ride in combat it seems.
I noticed many issues with combat bugging out, targets not working, ect.

After spending over 10 hours of playing Gloomhaven, which included doing all the tutorials, dabbling in the digital-exclusive Guildmaster mode, and repeatedly failing at the Campaign, both me and my multiplayer partner were left feeling the same sentiment - I just want to play Dungeons & Dragons instead. This is even after trying out the physical board game many times.

I think that Gloomhaven is a wildly ambitious take on the tried and true D&D formula, and instead of using dice, uses cards instead. It offers a more curated experience that takes much of the burden off of the Dungeon Master, and turns it instead into more of a game rather than an open-ended adventure brimming with creativity.

For specifics, you can read above in the mechanics area, but the general aspects of the game do not appeal to me. I tend to be a very resourceful player, so I hate wasting abilities. I like to be tactical in my approach to combat, not be rushed with an invisible timer looming over all my characters like a Doom status in Final Fantasy.

Overall, I cannot recommend Gloomhaven. Fidèle réplique du jeu de plateau. Grand jeu de réflexion stratégique et de coopération. il est super entre potes et c'est vraiment très agréable d'éviter toute la mise en place pour profiter que du game en tant que tel. Vraiment une adaptation aux petits oignons.
Joueurs solo passez votre chemin.
Par contre j'ai jamais autant cumulé de dégâts x0 de toute ma vie.
Je mériterai un succès Steam pour ça.

I enjoyed Gloomhaven the board game. I was a big AD&D fan in high school many years ago. I don't play anymore but Gloomhaven scratches that itch just enough. I bought the board game and used to get together with some family/friends to have game nights. Was fun to play but involved a lot of set up prep and then break down. The PC game solves all of that. Now we enjoy the game without having to lug the suitcase game box around and spend the first 30 minutes setting up just to play.

How anyone can like this game is totally beyond me. The mechanics are so contrived and clunky, its depressing because I want to like this game. It is NOT in the category on BG3 (really a class of its own), Solasta, XCOM or anything remotely like that imho .... it is a card based game digitized. I am certain that the developers did a lot of hard work, but its simply not enjoyable. If you like a card game perhaps you will like this game.

I cannot recommend this game.

My background. I have 300+ board games and 1200+ video games in my collection (all played). I enjoy the hardest and most complicated games (including all Souls-like, and Jaws of the Lion) all board games with 4.0-4.5+ complexity on Board Game Geek. I watch all SuSD and Dice Tower videos, some many times ,for years.

I have been hearing about Gloomhaven for years, and that it's a hard game. Fine. Finally I get to start the campaign. I have died 5 times in a row on the first mission. Trying all sorts of combos. What a waste of my time. I can't even remember the last time I ppayed a game that made me want the designer to suffer in horrible pain.

I won't even keep writing because Im so angry. But to give the shortest of summary - its not the difficulty alone that's the problem. I can see my game improve game my game and I will win the scenario at some point. It's that the UI is complete garbage for what this game wants to be. A single mistake (i.e. you can move 2 out of 4 movement by "skip movement" but if you "skip push" to push 1 out of 3 maximum cells it completely cancels the push, so the enemy doesn't lose 3 health on the trap, so YOU will have to lose 3 health on the trap by walking on it to the door. Bottom line, there is ZERO undo, a single mistake will lose you an hour of hard work. It's so terrible. It's a complete and utter joke.

It's fine, and if you get a deep discount it may be worth it. The main issues I have are that combat is a slog, the game is very repetitive, and there's a lot of randomness that you can't do anything about. It's not fun to miss out on an entire turn because both your characters drew x0 cards and now you do no damage. And if you fail a mission you just have to repeat it which means you'll be in for another drawn out combat session. The story isn't compelling enough to make me want to replay the same fights over and over. Overall it's disappointing.

You just have to let the computer take the NPC actions si no more arguing !
Great stories, your choice matter, 2 game option guldmaster where you keep your character or exactly like the board game.

Cons :
- Game crash often in multiplayer
- Camera stop moving when you want to move it during someone else turn... and MOVE during your turn when you don'T want it to move.

This is a high-quality digital version that allowed my scattered gaming group to play together regularly. Scenarios are usually about 2 hours and the automatic digital setup & monster movement is a boon compared to the time consuming physical version. The line of site tool and CTRL+Click features are very useful features. We have encountered edge case errors in the implementation of some characters and scenarios. While frustrating in the moment, when I consider the overall value of this game, these are very minor drawbacks that I am willing to put up with to gain access to a digital version.

I am having difficulties to get motivated to continue playing Gloomhaven after 20 h. The game is not bad, it just feels repetitive. The quests / scenarios are very simple and repetitive, the Enemy variations are mainly simple stat differences, and my own characters develop too slowly to make me feel the change in my play style. I keep repeating the exact same tactics with the exact same cards again and again.

10 out of 10 game! I have beaten this game completely with 3 different friend groups even on harder difficulties. Yes you occasionally have a player drop out (with the exception of one mission that almost always drops players for some reason) but normally it is because the player were having internet issues in there area. I still play this game and will ALWAYS recommend it to my friends. I also have this board game in real life, and I will say set up to play online is waaaay easier then the time it takes to set up a scenario irl.

Le jeu est purement technique, rien d'immersif. J'ai rien contre les jeux techniques et abstraits, mais qu'on me les vende comme tel.

Aucun lien entre les membres du groupe. Ils sont interchangeables. Allez zou, départ à la retraite comme un restart des idle games.
Pas d'équilibre des classes.
Des objectifs persos lors de quêtes absurdes sans lien avec la quête. D'où le mercenaire a un bonus s'il en branle pas une? Oui c'est une contrainte technique, non c'est pas immersif.
Le système de carte pue à 100km à la ronde: je veux bien qu'on soit fatigué et qu'on ne puisse plus le relancer de suite... mais après un repos je peux être en forme pour un gros sort et pas pour un petit? Encore un truc technique, pas un immersif.

Alors l'aspect rpg expédié, le côté technique... non. Il est complexe pour rien (pas compliqué, hein, complexe). Du coup le fun c'est quoi? C'est farmer du bénéfice pour farmer de la retraite pour avoir les meilleures classes avec du bénéf etc? Mais y a du grind moins cher et plus fun pour ça!

Allez zou, ça file à l'autel des achats regrettés.

Immersif: un jdr classique.
Technique: y a de meilleurs jeux.

I love the game. I have played through this whole game with a group in the past. We have tried to play again recently. Multiplayer will not work at all and the devs will not fix the multiplayer. If you want to play this game with others buy the physical copy or find a version on Tabletop Simulator. Do not buy this outdated version.

Очень крутая настолка с крайне не обычным пошаговым геймплеем. По вайбу напоминает Divinity Original Sin 2, но такой боевой системы я еще не видел нигде. За счет ее изучения и постепенного развития персонажей, которое заставляет не один раз переосмыслить их способности и роль, затягивает на очень много часов. Настройки сложности позволят легко сбалансировать игру если у вас получается плохо или наоборот если вы придумали гениальные планы победы
