I feel bad leaving a negative review, because each individual piece of gameplay is SOLIDLY good. They just don't come together in a way that's enjoyable.
The starting section is lovely. A bit annoyingly opaque at times, but simple once you figure out how things work. The tree physics is nice, and the light mechanics are interesting. Winter can feel punishing, but it's actually quite forgiving in the end. Everything from here on is a spoiler.
[spoiler]The dungeoning section is again opaque at first, but simple once you understand what everything does. This section is the real main game; every other mini-game you complete brings you back here to the dungeon with some upgrade or altered state or other. It feels like a puzzle most of the time, which is a pretty interesting mechanic. None of the other games follow logically from each other or from anything in the main section, which is a little disappointing; at least in Frog Fractions, there was a comedic narrative tying each section together. I would have liked to see more comedy and story.[/spoiler]
But many have said this. That's not enough to make me uninstall. My real gripe is more acute: [spoiler]They won't let you retry some minigames. Frog Fractions doesn't let you retry either, but it was short and simple. This game is so much longer and more complex that if you want to replay it all again to get back to that minigame, you'll be there for several hours. Picture this: You're doing the detective game set in Dante's Inferno. You've narrowed it down to two suspects in the database, you know one final piece of information that will make the difference, and you know where the suspect ran off to. You think you should maybe put that last bit of info in, but you decide you'll head to the next circle of Hell first and [i]then[/i] log it. Except as soon as you arrive in the next circle, the game locks you out of putting your info in and then tells you you've found the suspect but didn't have a warrant. Because it doesn't let you log the info. The info that you HAVE. And then you lose. Because it doesn't let you log the info that you were ABOUT TO LOG. And then it kicks you out of the minigame. That you WOULD HAVE WON IF IT LET YOU LOG THE INFO. And then it DOESN'T LET YOU TRY IT AGAIN.[/spoiler] It's too maddening. Don't get invested. Save yourself.
I love fairies
It's okay. Its cute and I liked it to start, then I found the underground cave that made me play a different game that I didn't want to play and there was no way back to the fairy village. So I started a new game because heck that I want to play fairy games, but then the plants stop producing food after a few "years" even though they haven't died and they won't grow anymore and all my fairies leave because there's zero food and if I cut down perfectly good trees all of their houses, wood sheds, and pantries will be gone. So I focused on mining, except once you hit a certain point the fairies won't pick up anything anymore so if you find food they just leave it down there with all of the crystals. Then after you play for a few hours the game stops working.

Don't be fooled: This is no ordinary city builder or management sim. This is a game about sheer survival. When winter hit, my fairies faced terrible disparities. Berry rationing, no insulation, and the dark dark winter tearing away at their spirits and their bodies. Do not assume that this is a comforting game, because this game will only bring you struggle.
Is a relaxing city sim - not something I would play but I can see the beauty on it.

Do yourself a favor and just buy the DLC for the original game, that's actually fun

Cute quaint little city building/management game. It's nothing super deep, but I still recommend picking it up and giving it a shot. It's a mostly tiger resistant game.

Glittermitten Grove, when a joke goes on for just a little too long.
This game is the next installment in the much discussed Frog Fractions franchise, and it's so committed to the joke, it doesn't even tell you it's part of the series. This game starts its life as a simple, and fairly slow, city builder where you are creating a society for small fairies who live in trees.
If you're interested in city builders, this is VERY bare bones, but it's mostly just a way to get you used to the pace of the game before the true nature of things unfolds. If you play this city builder for about and hour or two, you'll unlock the next portion of the game.
I won't go into detail as to what comes next, as the best part of this game is finding all the different games you're asked to play and figuring out how to play them.
However, that's also just about the ONLY fun thing in this game. This game plays a bit like a rogue-like game where you'll be starting over from the beginning over and over again. There's also zero direction in what you're doing, how you should do it, and what the point of it all is.
Bottom line, one of the reasons the original Frog Fractions so memorable to those who played it is how short it was. You can complete that entire game in about the same amount of time it takes just to get started in this game. I've put in about 7 hours into this game, and as far as I can tell I've made it relatively far, but it's just not worth it anymore. Looking at the same rooms over and over again, hoping to find the next mcguffin I need to progress the story state, all while having to move my sword around to keep it from blocking my movement is REALLY annoying.
Hence, this game is a joke that goes on a little too long. It's fun, it's funny, and it's got charm, but you can only entice people with weird and zany jokes for so long before they no longer have interest.

Разработка игр и визуальная (и не только) комедия - два совершенно непересекающихся навыка. Случаев, когда кому-то удалось их совместить - по пальцам одной руки пересчитать. И это явно не один из них.
Сам могу лишь осторожно порекомендовать Anachronox да Saints Row 4. Оригинальный Frog Fractions вроде был забавный, когда ничего о нём не знаешь и играешь в первый раз как случайную порекомендованную флэш-игру (это надо было делать явно не сегодня). Конечно, Undertale - опять же ничего про него не зная. Местами Sam & Max, хотя в старые квесты Lucas Arts практическине играл.
Вообще не люблю юмористические игры, особенно когда им занимаются разработчики-одиночки от инди-игр. На ум приходит вроде бы технически неплохие, но вымученные Unmetal, Retro City Rampage и его сиквел, La Mulana (конкретно играл только во вторую). И если в этих инди-играх всё неплохо, просто все потуги на диалоги и хихи-хаха просто надо пропускать (каждая бы из них серьёзно выиграла, если бы в ней не было почти никакого сценария, просто густая атмосфера и общие направления для игроков, в духе того самого ретро, которому они подражают); то здесь ведь кроме юмора ничего нет.
Есть на уме и пара позитивных инди-примеров: Gun Point и Cross Code. Где надо - смешные, (не вымученные), где надо - серьёзные (особенно последняя). И сами игры как, пардон, игры - хорошие; и мир достаточно продуман и атмосферен, а не просто декорация для шуток. Т.е. у них получилось вообще всё, включая, кстати, звук и музыку. Юмор не был самоцелью.
В общем, для меня было очень неловким зрелищем; хоть возможно и вкусовщина.

If you're going into this without knowing what it's a part of, you're only getting a [b]fraction[/b] of the experience.
The game you see on the screenshots, the game I thought I bought - I managed to play it for 30 minutes, and it was a rather undercooked colony sim with a few neat ideas, but with shallow mechanics and poor feedback. After those 30 minutes I reached the bottom of the map and found out that this game isn’t a colony sim, but a bunch of minigames stitched together in a DOS-like dungeon adventure. Apart from being falsely advertised there is another huge problem here: most of said minigames suck. At best they are tolerable, at worst - very frustrating. The hub world/adventure part quickly becomes annoying due to your sword being a physical object - and you being forced to constantly rotate it to fit through narrow pathways. The humor wasn’t funny, the references were lame, nothing in this game worked for me. I guess you have to be some sort of fan that knows who the developer is, as most of the positive reviews are all written in a misleading way with inner jokes that are completely lost to the outsiders.
TL/DR: the game isn’t what is shown on the store page, but a set of lame minigames, avoid it.
I actually quite liked Frog Fractions 2. But it is in the style of a MUCH older game. The minigames were a lot of fun in my opinion, and this game was my hyperfixation for a while.
I won't say anything other than you will need a microphone peripheral from the hit game rock band 3 in order to experience this in its full glory.
There are next to no games that I leave a review that's as short as this, but look, you're going to be playing this game if you already know about frog fractions so I feel like you should know what you're in for by purchasing this game so saying this is a requirement should be enough of a selling point here. You won't regret it unless you're not a fan of clever puzzles.

Great little beginner building sim with some depth (pun intended) to it once you get the mechanics sorted out.
My 7-year old enjoyed building her fairy village, and shooting cannons at rocks also.
Great City Builder! Dont know how to explain, but its just great! Relaxing, though at times it can be stressful if you cant get those damn tree branches to go your way. The secret level seems boring and I dont understand it. Maybe theres more to it for those who want to explore more of that game.

As the sequel to Frog Fractions, most will go into this with the expectation that it will follow the same, genre-bending yet cohesive adventure that the first does. On the other hand, those who have never heard of Frog Fractions, those baited in by "Glittermitten Grove" and its colony sim aspects, will likely have no idea what most of the game's work went into. They may not even discover the "true game" at all. This may lead to many types of disappointed players.
Despite that, it offers so much fun so long as you understand what the experience ultimately contains: it is a game collection. No one section of Frog Fractions 2 (or is it 3?) is designed with much depth or continuity. On top of that, very little of it actually contains the frog or their fractions, which the original game, despite its experimental design, never failed to do. There was always frogs and fractions, it's part of what made the quirky identity of the game so charming.
"How far can you stretch the idea of frogs and fractions?"
Well, in its sequel, it is essentially just a random game collection, the frog does appear (albeit fractionless) at one point, but otherwise the only thing that forms a cohesive experience in FF2 is its consistently quirky tone found throughout each game.
If you go into it understanding all of this, that it isn't like FF1, and you simply enjoy collections of short games, you would likely enjoy this. Despite how disconnected everything is, it is still fun. It will keep you guessing what comes next, and in at least this way, it captures what made FF1 so mesmerizing.
So much secret work went into this game, which is very much this creator's fashion, so don't mistake its lack of depth within each subgame for little to do overall. There are so many secrets and easter eggs if you explore. From the Dark Souls Soapstone system that has a real server that tracks player messages, to the Metroidvania progression of traversing TXT World that includes the overworld constantly changing, to perhaps the most infamous secret, that you can import your real Mass Effect 2 save, and it has real function within the world.
Each subgame, TXT World, even the shell game of Glittermitten Grove, they are all fun, so long as you like these specific styles of games, which may not be for everyone. The minimalist colony sim with a cool physics-based foundation, which I found so fun that I spent half of the playtime on just this "shell game"! TXT World, as a love letter to ZZT, adds so many cool details that would not have been possible in 1991. And then each subgame has something new to offer for a short time, creating breaks for the bigger TXT World experience.
Overall, I still enjoy Frog Fractions 2, despite it containing very little frogs or fractions.
If [i]Glittermitten Grove[/i] were any more esoteric and artsy, it would be in an art museum rather than a store page. In other words, it values aesthetics more than functionality and this becomes undeniable when players have to hunt for keys/glyphs in order to progress in the ASCII section of the game. There is no clear equilibrium between entertaining the player and perplexing them, making the mid-to-late game unintentionally laborious irrespective of the developer's unserious intentions with the game. Unless you are an [b]A[/b]lternate [b]R[/b]eality [b]G[/b]ame fanatic, this video game will certainly put you to work with little to no payoff.
After loving Frog Fractions, I sadly gave up on this game. The subversive elements take a while to get to and the gameplay in between isn't very engaging. Maybe check it out if you're into FF and also happen to like colony sim and ascii adventure games.
With the new wave of Farm Sim games that started when COVID-19 hit, I think people have now forgotten the real king of the genre: Glittermittin Grove. Super in-depth mechanics and was very ahead of it's time in visuals, replay-ability, and just plain creativity.
Solid 9/10, could've used more frogs.

Loved Frog Fractions GOTDE but have had a thoroughly unenjoyable time with this sequel, the opening portion is rather difficult and gives you no direction on how to get through it (it took me at least 1.5hrs), then the main portion of the game is a zelda type thing with no direction, involving you doing many disconnected micro games that are the level of mediocre that makes them unpleasant to spend time in. Additionally, there is no throughline to all of this, no overarching story, no sense of characters and no real goal.

Imagine if the fake game at the beginning of Frog Fractions took a half hour. I was so unimpressed by what happened after that I couldn't be bothered to continue.
If this game had just come out I would keep the pretense up and say that this is a great city builder game but since they have the guide in a bundle I'll just come out and say that this is the sequel to Frog Fractions.
That said I refuse to spoil anything about this game. If you liked Frog Fractions you'll probably like this game. It has some really innovative ideas, but if you want a more substantial game that explores its mechanics thoroughly, this probably isn't the game for you.
I think it's best to view the game as a really obtuse way of accessing a bunch of smaller games. There's a few frustrating mechanics but it's overall enjoyable.
Also the tutorial fairy is hot and if she weren't a lesbian I'd smash.
A great Friday-night game to play up until 3 AM on a Tuesday
It seems like there are a lot of things in this game meant to frustrate the player intentionally to be funny, but it gets tiring after a while. The other games in the series are more enjoyable but this one still has a few interesting parts.

꾸준히 빠르게 관리해줘야합니다.
게임 자체는 재미있지만 중 후반에 가게되면 숲의 성장 속도에 비해
건물들은 성을 제외하곤 능력치가 업그레이드 되거나
공간대비 효율이 부족하다는 느낌이 많이 들게됩니다.
그런 것만 빼면 게임 자체는 가볍게 할만 합니다.
It's slow to start with but I'm enjoying it, it's nice and chill.
There's no tutorial so you kind of have to figure it out for yourself.
The game saves automatically but, you end up with spam saves.
I do get a bit annoyed at the fairies when they don't listen to me.
This game has to be one of the best hidden gems on the Steam store. I was never too big of a fan of RTS Colony Sims until Glittermitten Grove showed me the light.

While looking cutesy on the surface, Glittermitten Grove has highlighted the leaps that the colony sim industry has grown over the years. Time flies while playing this game and I had completely frogotten how fun it is to manage a tiny and cozy town. Definitely one to give a shot before you croak.

There were multiple times throughout this game where I got stuck and had to look up how to progress, but overall, this game is brilliant and I enthusiastically recommend playing it.

I love how the second FF game is embedded inside a random fairy-themed survival/civilization game. My biggest criticism is that it's very easy to get stuck—at one point I needed to connect a microphone, and my PC just couldn't do it, so I had to just stop playing, which didn't feel great. And aside from that, there were several other points in the game where I had to look up how to proceed; overall it seems to have a higher difficulty than the first FF game.
But on the other hand, the humor in this game easily lives up to the first one—I'd say this game is even better. The cookie clicker/flappy bird hybrid was one of the most funny & brilliant creations I've seen in my entire life.
I had an absolutely magical experience playing Frog Fractions 1 but this game (technically Frog Fractions 2) really misses the mark. There are constantly portions of the game where the only two ways forward are either to guess every possibility and retrace steps constantly, or to look up a strategy guide (of which there are only lets-plays these days, which are terrible to watch).
The really sad part is that I was really enjoying the starting game, Glittermitten Grove, and everything got worse and worse and worse once that portion of the game ended.
Would not recommend this one unless you love looking up answers to questions for games, or slamming your head against a wall constantly.
Insufficient frogs
Glittermitten Grove is the Pixie RTS sim you have been waiting for. Treat yourself you deserve this.
Decent civilization builder, decent frog-based fraction simulator. I can imagine some would say it's a bit steep for the price, but if you're buying this game, you know what you're getting into.
I kind of wish they had just fleshed-out the starting game. The hidden stuff has too much of an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach; so, none of its sections got enough attention to really feel completed.

Very good. Not easy or quick to pick up, this would frustrate kids, do not get for your kids. Quite challenging and seems unforgiving at times. But if you are up for a challenge, this is a great game.

My girlfriend, Gwen, urged me to play this game after she showed me an older game made by the same developer. I didn't understand why until I got into it, apart from it was made by the same person. This review will contain major spoilers, so if you have any interest in this game, or Frog Fractions, I suggest checking out any other review on the site.
[h1]First Impressions[/h1]
It's a very bore bones city-building game, based around fairies. You need to keep them happy by building them homes & feeding them. In turn, they'll collect wood, and set up new buildings for you to cast spells, and mine with explosives. I thought the game was going to be over pretty quick as I got the world boarder, but I was very wrong.
[h1]Finding Footing[/h1]
In the game, there are four seasons. During winter, you can't do much with the fairies, as food and tress don't grow. The leaves you with the ability to mine, searching for treasure, and crystals. I stumbled upon a door. After clicking that door, my god. I never saw the fairies again. It took me into an entirely different game. It was a text-style RPG. I don't mean a text-only input RPG, the graphics were all Unicode symbols. You have to run around and solve puzzles, like a 2D Zelda game. Slightly disappointed, I learned that I wouldn't get to play the game I thought I was playing anymore.
[h1]Diving In[/h1]
The “TXT GAME” as it's called was a bit frustrating to me to play alone. I enlisted the help of my girlfriend to play it with me, and we solved the puzzles together. Much like how we got here in the first place, it was heavily based around trolls as well as puzzle solving. Throughout the game, you were thrust into other mini-games, which was a neat idea. Each mini-game had its own art style. It grew on me over time, but through the entire experience, I was a little salty that I was tricked.
[h1]Final Thoughts[/h1]
A lot of the movement puzzles with the sword got under my skin, and made me increasingly irritated. This is probably more of a personal thing, but I didn't enjoy the puzzles all that much. They irritated me while I was doing them, and I felt relived when I was done with them. I'm not sure whether I was happy that I'd finished them, or whether I was happy that it was finally over. The best part of the game is the ending. The final two parts of the game were enjoyable, and made the entire experience worth it.
[h1]Completion Record[/h1]
There isn't a real reason not to complete it. Playing through the entire game will net you completion, as there are no achievements or special things to unlock. No reasons to play through the game again. Short, sweet, easy completionist marker.
The base Glittermitten Grove game is legitimately a nice chill town-building and resource management game.
That's just a fraction of what the game has to offer, though, and deep under the surface there's a ton of additional hilarious content.
A true experience of surprise and discovery. If you are here by now, you probably know at least by a little what this is all about, and let me assure you it will be one hell of a memorable experience.
Fascinating, innovative, unexpected, and - above all - fun. Some players might find the unexpected part of the game too difficult or too old school, but it's all optional, and things usually seem harder than they actually are. The soundtrack is great too.
EDIT: I keep coming back to this game from time to time. I would really love a sequel to Glittermitten Grove, with or without a sequel to the unexpected parts. :)

I repeatedly asked a frog whether it, myself, or an angry gorilla was a pear. 11/10.
I'm glad I put off trying this out. It's terrible and has nothing of the charm and energy that made the original so much of a phenomenon. The initial faerie town builder is okay but overstays its welcome. The next ascii-based part is awful. Frog Fractions was always going to be a tough one to beat, but this just botches it on every level. What a shame.
This game was life-changing.
Play it long enough, and you'll find out for yourself.
