Обидно, что к концу игры, из всех вопросов будет дан ответ только на один - "Хто я?", а про остальные забудьте, никаких пояснений. Но зато не забыли прописать соевую команду, которая хз как вообще до этого выживала в космосе с их "У нас нет капитана, мы все решаем вместе, мы такие прогрессивные блин класс". Ну и последний минус, какое-то огромное количество хп у боссов, сидишь и просто ковыряешь их, пока они в это время спамят одну-две атаки, очень скучно

SUPER underrated Metroidvania. Emphasis on the Metroid. Weird scifi planet that you ceashland on with other people. They are all veeeery Dark Souls NPC-coded. Lots of sad almost hopeless vibe. But the weird alien world is good at giving you that "wtf" vibe. Plus I think it's main gimmick is neat: you shoot your gun but it will overheat and the RoF slows way down BUT now your melee attacks do tons more damage. And there's a bunch of different kinds of melee weapons too. I of course took to the biggest hammer. But yea the game has this overall depressing vibe that will get you in your feels. Not much out there like it.

A trainwreck that after a drizzle and a few years was overgrown by moss and you’ll take pictures because it’s so moody and serene and you’ll find yourself thinking about it from time to time.
But a trainwreck nonetheless.

The ambience is phenomenal, easily the best part, and hook, of the game.
The minimal score with long droning sounds made with strange instruments, and sprawling colorful alien planet battered with mist and humidity is a total mood.

[h1]Gameplay[/h1]
HEAVILY inspired by the genre moniker Metroid, explore an interconnected 2D map where places are locked behind weapons or movement options requiring them to unlock or reach those places so you’ll have to run through and revisit parts of the map with new and improved powers the next time around.

[h1]Story[/h1]
You the control of an amnesiac robot awakening on a planet overgrown with vegetation, armed (heh) with an arm cannon you’ll start to explore this weird world.

The story is solely told through character interaction where they’ll dump on you a lot of dialogue before resuming your exploring.

[h1]Downsides[/h1]
The game single most glaring flaw that completely breaks it in two if the feeling that the devs had the mindset of “put some stuff in the game first, figure out how it should work later” but never got to the second part due to someone suddenly yelling TIME OUT!
The result is this broken, unbalanced, underdeveloped mess where you see a lot of elements where an incredible amount of work and thought has been put into, meshed with others that feel they have been stitched together in 10 minutes.

The paper doll animation on display looks somewhat good only on the main character and some enemies while everything else looks like a cardboard cutout with pins on their joints.

Story may be a good blend of personal and succinct, but the characters themselves are so boring that the effort is completely invalidated.

This game feels weird.
As a game itself it’s quite bad, but you can clearly see the vision of the developers.
This is very close to a negative reviews, and the negatives that are already on the store page are mostly right, I will recommend it only for the unique mood it manages to set with its looks and sounds.

(if you want to make the experience slightly better consider using a retro shader on it like NewPixie)

Very impressed with this one. It's a fusion of Metroid and Souls games. The voice acting and sound design were absolutely top notch - better than most "triple a" games. Atmosphere was incredible. Only thing that could possibly add on top of the moody solemness would be some good rain visuals and sounds. I know this is probably a hot take, but this was much more interesting to me than Super Metroid. I'm a big Souls fan but I'm a bit tired of everyone injecting Estus Flasks and bonfire mechanics into every game. The bonfire mechanic didn't bother me in this case since it just meant enemies respawn when you save instead of when a room is loaded (like Castlevania, for example). I wasn't a fan of lower health every death punishment, but it can be circumvented by closing the game on death (and deathless is required for an achievement anyway). I'm also not a fan of speedruns being achievements. I think that people who want to speedrun will do it anyway and the rest of us just want to take our time and enjoy things we like. Giving speedrun incentive for us is setting us up to enjoy the game less. I say this because I know I'm doing it afterwards just to get that last achievement. I know arguments can be made for the manufactured obligation of achievements as well but speedrun achievements just feel extra icky to me.

Anyway I really enjoyed the game and it's a solid recommendation. My tiny nitpicking complaints are miniscule compared to the overall greatness. Absolutely phenomenal! Looking forward to whatever is next!

Not very good to be honest. I wanted to like it (im a fan of metroidvanias), but its slow, tedious and boring. I feel just tired after hour with this game.
Environments are dull and not interesting, and feel very samey. It has soulslikes elements (bonfire, stamina), I dont know what for, maybe to annoy player even more.
Damage you deal is pitiful, enemies are rather tanky but not interesting to fight, they just have very basic moves but a lot of health. After few shots you overheat and have to wait. Again, not interesting, just time consuming and annoying.
Oh, and it has cutscenes you cant skip.
I wish I played demo first.

Let me start off with saying I love this Indie game thats from a single dev. It might not be as popular as others but its in my top 5 of platformers like Hollow Knight, Metroid, Ori, Castlevania (SOTN), Bloodstained. I cant wait to try his new game when it comes out! "The Silver Sun"

I really enjoyed this game, the soundtrack is amazing, sound design too. It's really atmospheric, the NPCs have a good bit of optional dialogue. The combat can be pretty tough early on but there is tons of build options you unlock for plenty of versatility. This game deserves more attention than it gets in my personal opinion. its not very long, I'm almost done with my new game+ play through. First time beating the game took about 20 hours? Sadly I wish it had some expansions but for $20 full price? I'm more than happy with my purchase. I want to add it to my Switch Metroidvania collection someday lol.
I think this game is a true gem in the platforming genre, and gets a lot of underserved hate. Remember its only 1 developer! Cut the guy some slack. :)

Over all difficulty 8/10 (new game+ has been a cake walk lol) I wish it had a hard mode. Easy and "normal" only. Easy mode removing the slight health penalty on death. And a lot of bosses aren't much of a fight but some will still probably take a few tries or more exploration for better weapons/exp.

I really, really liked this game, but for some reasons that feel difficult to explain and other reasons that I should not be giving full explanation at risk of spoiling the story. The soundtrack at first seemed peculiar and at odds with the setting of the game, but over time I began to notice how poignant and austere it was through careful drawn-out pauses and slow melodies that never really feel like they're bound to conclude with any comforting resolution. This sense was sustained throughout the rest of this game's story. While you are meant to battle some of the things that attempt to harm you, you are also meant to bring into question what and who these beings are while piecing together an understanding of what is happening on and around that world. Additionally, each fact you uncover in this world threatens to shed some light on what and who you might be. This alone made for an incredible game--add onto that some great metroidvania-like gameplay mechanics, complex characters, and environments that offer both beauty and danger, and you have this amazing gem.

Changed from No to Yes: I am likely exhibiting a post-MIO depression where I am unfairly judging MVs based on MIO, some people may enjoy Ghost Song even if I struggled to care for it.

Nice soundtrack, cool alien world and environmental design and it was developed by a one person team... however it just falls apart after that.

The combat feels rather jank, but overall enemy design is too easy for this to be an issue, but then that means the enemy design is also not great.

Most of the game is just traversing empty rooms with the occasional basic platforming segment where you eventually have a Sprint ability that has zero use in combat as it uses energy (there is a Dash ability), which makes you wonder if the game needed a Sprint ability in the first place as instead it could've just increased the base movement speed.

For some reason when playing on KB&M, my cursor would show up but... the Blaster's aiming beam did not align with the cursor at all... ended up not mattering as enemy design is not hard but it was baffling to say the least.

Dialogue with NPCs consists of simple, mostly one sentence liners that you have to interact / press space bar to get to the next one sentence liner, and after you've exhausted all the text dialogue you are then intended to interact... with the voiced text dialogue that does not allow you to skip through it even though a lot of the times they were again simple, mostly one sentence liners.

Unfortunate, as the game does have some interesting ideas including lore but a lot of things are designed poorly. I would recommend MIO if you are looking for a sci-fi MV.

A true "blue gem" that prioritizes mood and mystery. The combat system is refreshingly unique, forcing a rhythmic balance between ranged and melee attacks that feels unlike its peers. While the lore and atmosphere are nothing short of majestic, the world-building is occasionally undercut by its level design. You’ll often find yourself traversing half-empty corridors; they are visually stunning, but they lack the enemy density or platforming challenges to match the brilliance of the backgrounds. It’s a somber, beautiful trek, even if the walk is a bit lonely at times.

Ghost Song to chyba mój pierwszy kontakt z pełnoprawnym tytułem typu metro.
I to chyba najlepsze możliwe doświadczenie i początek z tego typu grami bo ten tytuł jest mega dobrze wyważony.
Dla takiego starego typa jak ja to po prostu platformowa zręcznościowa rpg type gierka xD ale niech sobie ma swoje nazwy... Dla mnie po prostu mega. Wszystko się tutaj zgadza, pełno nostalgii, powrotów do typowych platformówek ale z masą elementów z gier AAA i do tego ta fabuła z mega plot-twist.
Ależ to pięknie ogarnęli... mega props!

This is a metroidvania that's closer to a "meh" than being outright awful, but despite an enjoyable start it degrades into a tedious slog as the game goes on.

Initially it's a passable enough mixture of action and exploration. Getting around the environment is gated off by obtaining abilities and in this regard it's pretty much par for the course. No real surprises to be had in terms of your abilities (dash, wall-jump etc) or how it's structured.

There's a Dark Souls element with levelling up for your character, having stamina for your moves and depleting power for your weapons. Along with losing in-game currency when you die that you have to go back and collect.

You get a nice mixture of buffs, weapons and secondary weapons. For a while it's a reasonably pleasant mix with an acceptable level of distance for fast-travel points and save points.

Then they f**k it all up and decide that they're going to have objectives that mean you can't use fast-travel. Okay, that needn't be so bad if they design it well, but...uh..they didn't. Instead: Lets traipse over the entire map, from one end to the other, whilst a barrage of irritating enemies attack you.

Or: They lock you into combat encounters with no chance of escape until enemies are defeated. To make this even worse: Every time you die you lose a bit of your overall health and can only regain it at a specific point in the map. Which is usually a fair distance away and you have to pay for it.

So imagine how much fun it is getting trapped in these conditions when it happens right after a tough boss-fight. It's weird: The first half of the game is okay but a little bit dull in places, with long stretches of no combat and then pedestrian execution when battles do happen. Then after X amount of hours it suddenly takes a hard-turn into being mind-numbingly frustrating by over-compensating with fight after fight, after annoying fight.

There's a lot of good things here: It looks nice, is fairly responsive, has a decent atmosphere and controls quite well. The customisation for your characters build has some interesting choices and the story is reasonably intriguing.

On the other hand: If combat is the main appeal of this genre for you, it can be a bit boring for a few hours at the start and the ambience / story carries it. The bosses are nothing special when it comes to their attack-patterns or the tactics required to beat them. The level design gets massively annoying as it goes on, with tedious restrictions and huge distances to cover whilst fighting off increased numbers of enemies.

There's just too many things wrong with it to recommend the game. It isn't garbage, but there's so many better examples in the genre to be had.

Ghost Song is the story of a good game buried beneath a lot of very bad design choices aimed at wasting your time and patience. It's a game I loved and hated in equal parts, and whether I would recommend it depends on how much you can live with its many flaws to get to the good parts.

People complain about runbacks in Silksong, but Ghost Song adds another mechanic where, after each death, you lose a (admittedly tiny) chunk of your healthbar and can only repair it at various robot statues that are pretty scarce in the entire game, and against whom a boss runback is nothing. There's no good reason for this design choice other than wasting your time and goodwill, and the game loves to do that.

Do you need those chunks of healthbar? Not initially, though, after a couple of losses to the same boss, they add up, and they create this nagging feeling that really starts to bother you the more often you get defeated. Add to this the usual terrible design choice copied from soulslop games to lose your experience/money upon death (you can get it back, but only if you don't die a second time before reaching it), and it feels like the game is deliberately designed to waste your time.

To this, the game adds spongy bosses, which, at least in one case (Old Singer), will really tax your patience since that boss repeatedly runs away if you don't attack him in close contact. The game generally tries to limit how you fight bosses. Once you're in a boss area, some barriers appear that make it impossible to leave and usually impossible to snipe from afar. Which wouldn't be a problem if you weren't limited by stamina (which the bosses don't seem to be), and they move faster.

The add insult to injury, the game has a level up mechanic where you can either increase gun, health, or resolve (which does a couple of things), but those level ups add so little that it feels almost not worth it. It definitely is, but like everything in the game its designed to make your progress feel slow and cumbersome. After I played a bit, I felt like I was twenty hours into the game, but in reality barely scratched eight, which shows just how much of the game feels like a slog.

Which is kinda a shame, because behind all those terrible design choices hides a game with a genuinely unique environment that manages to evoke an alien world better than many of its contemporary Metroid-likes. Add to this writing and NPCs that made me genuinely interested in their stories and what happened to them, the mystery behind the character I was playing, and the background of the world I was exploring.

Though even with that, there are issues. You meet characters either in a special camp or all over the place, and after certain situations, they change what they are saying, and if you haven't talked to them up to those moments, you're cut off from finishing their personal stories (and achievements if these things matter to you). This works if you have a game with a few locales, and where it is clear where the NPCs will likely turn up.

Aside from the camp people, most NPC locations seem utterly random, and after every story gate, you either exhaustively go all over the map again in hopes of finding them or give up on following their storylines. If there was at least a certain logic to this, it wouldn't matter so much, but as it is, it really feels like it's down to pure luck whether you stumble over certain characters.

And like I said, I actually like the NPC stories here, whether it's their personal history or whether it ties into the larger story of what happened to the world you're on. There are also moments you only unlock if you do some rather convoluted stuff, and how you should find that out without looking at a guide, I have no idea. That's just a terrible way to design secrets.

Other points of contention are somewhat floaty controls, though once you get a couple of movement upgrades, you can mitigate that a bit. The initial hours of the game are a bit of a pain in the ass due to that. Also, the map is suboptimal, and the markers are mostly useless. And the game doesn't pause when you're looking at the map or in the item menu, another bad design choice copied from soulslop games.

For all my complaints, though, once you get into the game, learn how it operates and how it tries to annoy you, it genuinely becomes one of the better Metroid-like metroidvania I've played for some time. A world with a very interesting science fiction backstory that reminds me of elements of Stephen Baxter's Xeelee cycle, but offered in a way that feels all its own. I just wish all those qualities weren't buried so deep under terrible design choices that make it impossible to really recommend the game.

Ghost Song was fine. Movement is plodding in a manner similar to Blasphemous but without the compelling combat. There's far too much running through empty map sections which is made especially painful by depleting your stamina when you run or dash. Boss battles are quite samey and there's little biome variety. Abilities are pretty run-of-the-mill.

On the positive side, the mix of ranged and melee combat is pretty fun, especially the thematic concept that melee damage increases the more you fire your weapon (striking with a hot barrel). The writing is very well done with strong voice acting to match. The world building is also rather fascinating.

There are many Metroidvanias I'd recommend before Ghost Song but it's a worthy trip if you're a big fan of the genre.

Как метроидвания игра неплохая, но у неё есть несколько внушительных минусов. Я бы этой игре поставил нейтральную оценку.

- Несмотря на красивый арт, разнообразием он не блещет: тут у нас зелёная пещера, тут желтая, а тут голубая. Смена биомов не чувствуется вообще.
- Точки сохранения находятся далеко от боссов. Иногда по 40 секунд надо бежать до начала битвы с боссом. Бесит.
- Взяв квестовый предмет, надо пешком переться до другого края карты, так как нельзя использовать телепорт. Просто тупейшее геймдизайнерское решение.
- Скучные диалоги, скипал на автомате.

Тем не менее, не хочется портить игре оценку, просто не надо ждать откровений. На пару вечеров пойдёт, но не более.

Kurzweiliges etwas anderes metroidvania.
Mich persönlich hat es sehr in seinen Bann gezogen , vll weil ich schon lange kein metroidvania hatte ,dass tatsächlich die supermetroid atmos ein wenig mitgenommen hat :)
Wir sind hier auf einen fremden planeten , mit skurillen wesen .
Haben primär eine Waffe , und tragen konstant den anzug.
Dazu diese nihilistische , melancholische atmos ...
Sehr erwachsen , sehr anders.
Ist sicherlich nicht für jederman
wer aber man einen frischen wind braucht , und ein eher westliches metroidvania mit scifi touch und gun spielen will ,macht hier nichts verkehrt :)

I loved this game! It's visually very beautiful and the music is great. It was challenging without being TOO challenging. I enjoyed the story and the characters. Would definitely recommend this game if you are into metroidvania style games and love sci-fi.

移动和战斗手感僵硬，跳跃的时候动不动就磕脑袋被撞下平台，攻击时开枪时瞄准了就不能移动，要么站在原地当靶子，要么打不了上下方向，没开几枪就枪管过热，伤害衰减完了，鼓励过热时打近战，但是近战手感也是一坨，攻击距离短，砍两刀就把怪砍出攻击范围。刚好玩到一个地方跳跳乐但是平台上面塞远程怪的，直接进行一个退款（114分钟希望能退成功）

2가지 게임의 장점을 섞어다기보다 특징적인 부분을 섞은 게임입니다.
클래식한 게임을 느끼면서도 한편으로 불합리하게 어려운 게임들을 합친 탓에
대부분의 유저들이 쉽게 접근을 못하는 것이 큽니다.
저도 1시간 가량을 같은 맵을 빙글빙글 돈다거나 업적작을 하다가 퀘스트를 놓친 탓에
이 게임을 4회차를 하였습니다.

대부분의 NPC들과의 대화는 직접적이기보다 시처럼 서정적이며 게임내 단어로 이루어집니다.
깔끔하지는 못하나 한글 번역이 제대로 되어 있음에도
철학과 같이 이해 못 할 이야기와 세계관에서만 쓰이는 단어는 달리 설명을 해주지도 않기에
게임을 끝낼때까지 혹은 2회차를 하였음에도 이 게임의 이야기가 무엇인지는 아직도 모르겠습니다.

메트로이드를 좋아하시고 프롬게임을 좋아하신다면 권유해볼만 합니다.
하지만 그 2가지 중 어느 것도 좋아하지 않으신다면 정말 추천드리지 않습니다.

불합리함과 불편한 편의성 및 답답한 진행이 익숙하지 못하거나 싫으신 분들께는
이 게임의 그러한 단점이 더욱 더 부각되리라 생각됩니다.

그럼에도 이 게임의 독특한 맛은 있습니다.
아주 어두운 분위기임에도 NPC들의 이야기에는 희망이 담겨 있으며,

[h3]Yes but no?[/h3]

In many respects, Ghost Song feels like Baby’s First Metroidvania. Its level design and sense of progression are okay but also very pedestrian (long hallways with nothing happening) and as such never really challenges you. The combat itself is somewhat satisfying at least, and has you dashing through enemies while performing melee attacks and deploy a rotating arsenal of special weapons.

The soundtrack is easily the standout aspect here. Evocative and gives a sense of melancholy which adds to the moody atmosphere. Unfortunately though, the same couldn't be said for the writing as it ended up severely undermining the overall experience. It veers into grating pseudo-intellectual, millennial whinging; self indulgent and nonsensical at best. It's honestly some of the most off-putting storytelling the medium has to offer.

But if you can deal with with the above then give it a go, it's not a lengthy game (for the genre anyway) and overall I found the exploration and atmosphere to be engaging at least.

A very fun but difficult Metroidvania. The combat itself is great and exploration is solid. The bosses are fun and the items you unlock are cool. Did my best to 100% but missed out on a few initial introduction missions but did get all the crew quests done. Really enjoyed this experience overall. There were a few bosses that gave me issues but perseverance generally holds true for games like these.

[i]Steam really lacks a “?” rating alongside “Yes” and “No”.[/i]

If you’re looking for a solid platformer or a classic metroidvania, this is probably a [b]“No”[/b] for you:
- Paths are blocked by the most basic mechanics: double jump, wall bounce, weapon hit.
- The protagonist herself is [b]extremely slow[/b], while almost all enemies are several times faster.
- Long, completely empty stretches are combined with tiny rooms (10 cm long, figuratively speaking) packed with dozens of enemies.
- After 19 hours of gameplay and active upgrades, the protagonist’s damage increased from 16 to 18.

So why did I leave a “Yes”?
To be honest, it’s much closer to a “?”.

This game feels more like [b]art-chaos[/b]: nothing is explained to you. If you “get it”, then you get it. If you don’t — it’s simply not for you.

I had to talk to an AI just to understand what was actually happening during those 19 hours of gameplay: the meditative nature, the deep loneliness, the protagonist, her true name, the world, and the other characters. And that’s despite the fact that I didn’t skip or ignore a single dialogue!

This game has atmosphere. It has a soul. But the overall impression feels very blurred.

At this point, judge for yourself: either I’m not the target audience, or the developers failed to properly present and tell their story.

The project is not for everyone — but still, I found [i]something[/i] in it for myself.

It's stengths: excellent atmosphere, great soundtrack, superb art design, and tight controls. On it's weaknesses: some frustrating bosses due to the small amount of room you fight some of them in and with this being 2D, they go off the screen making it impossible to read their next attacks, and the writing is very hit or miss with the ending in particular not feeling very satisfying,

I think the next game should focus more on exploration, with less dialogue and larger and more thoughtful boss arenas. 8/10

A beautiful atmospheric metroidvania with a slow, almost cozy pace with stunning ethereal music. I completely fell in love with the planet and its inhabitants. Voice acting was great I especially loved Blue she is just such a great character, the gameplay is fun without constantly throwing enemies at you, and I really appreciated the relaxed pace and overall feel of the game. It’s a perfect experience on the Deck, and I’m really hoping for a sequel.

Megaman + Metroid + Darksouls, this sounds really great but it's execution isn't good in my opinion.

+UI is great and easy to navigate
+The controls are smooth and responsive
+Double jump and Wall jump or bounce is really fun

- Music is forgettable, atleast what's there.
-Most biomes are ugly
-Melee is one animation that takes stamina but your a robot, why do you have stamina?
-Arm blaster variety is forgettable and over heats to easily.
-Bosses are forgettable
-I hate darksouls way of story telling and lore and this replicates that.

It's good. I like it. But I can't recommend it. Gameplay is enjoyable, but not very deep and it doesn't expand as it goes. Movement is sluggish and frustrating. The story is somewhat non-existent. I liked meeting everyone and hearing about them, it did motivate me to beat the game. However, the conclusion is... Well I can't spoil it if I wanted to, because there isn't one. A mediocre overall experience ending in the wettest fart. I see potential in the devs, but you don't need to play this.

I must say, this is a pretty-looking game. I honestly dig the style. The whole atmosphere is mysterious, haunting, and genuinely entertaining to explore. Every area feels handcrafted to draw you in, with its moody lighting, eerie silhouettes, and that quiet sense of something always lurking just out of sight. The presentation is easily one of Ghost Song’s strongest points, and it sets the tone perfectly from the moment you take your first steps across the desolate surface of Lorian.

But good atmosphere alone isn’t everything, and that’s where the game starts to stumble. While the world looks amazing, the gameplay doesn’t always keep pace with the visual quality. Combat and exploration begin strong but can grow repetitive over time, and certain encounters feel more frustrating than engaging. It’s a game that shines brightest when you’re simply soaking in the scenery—less so when you’re forced into long stretches of backtracking or dealing with enemies that don’t offer much variety.

Ghost Song is ultimately a beautiful and memorable experience, but it’s also one that sometimes struggles to match its incredible atmosphere with equally compelling gameplay. If you’re in it for the vibes, the story, and the artistic vision, it’s absolutely worth your time. If you’re looking for tight pacing and constant gameplay evolution, you might find it a bit lacking.

I'll still recommend the game in the end.

I want to give it a neither good nor bad review. The music and the story and how they handled the setting is all well done. However, just about everything 'gameplay' and 'metroidvania' about it is below the threshold for what I would consider minimum competence. Game is easy enough to ignore the problems with the exception of a single, optional, Skull-Flail swinging P.O.S. simply because it was just a poorly thought out boss-fight design. It's do'able, but it is the single most frustrating boss fight of the game. The difficulty between Ogre and every single other boss in the game is an insane jump and again, it's all to do with with the overall incompetent design of many things culminating together.

That all said, again from at the top of my comment, there some truely good very well done things about the game. Get it on sale.

Тупейшая игра. Тупейшие телепорты. Ниочёмные диалоги. Кончаемый бег, чтоб ты дольше и двигался от одной тупой локации до другой тупой локации. Непонятное тупое отпрыгивание от стены. Какой-то рандомайзер мощи боссов. Один вообще глючный и исчезает. Какие редкостоные криворукие делали данное убожество.
Здесь нет ничего хорошего кроме приемлемой картинки, на что я и купился.
Это один большой баг!

The game is inspired by Metroid, yet the devs have missed the most important lesson from their inspiration: Difficulty design. On the one side the fighting mechanics are sluggish and annoying, but that's not what kills the vibe. It's the developer not understanding that when you're giving the player a sluggish character, you're communicating: [i]You are not an agile fighter, so avoid close combat like a plague![/i]

And then they throw you into a group of enemies without escape, without preparation and with a clearly underdeveloped character. Basically like your father simply throwing you into the deep water so you learn to swim on your own. [b]That's not how Metroid would ever do it[/b] and as such this is just a horrible failure in game pace.

If i have to try a scene 10+ times in the first 2 hours (!!) then you simply lost me. And you should be ashamed. The fact that most other reviews are kinda like "And then i started on easy..." explains how many people failed there. That should have been caught in beta, yet 3 years after release that's what is in the game.

Which is a pity, because the graphics are great, i like the atmosphere and the sound - All done visibly by professionals. Sadly the game designer hasn't even learned the bloody beginning lessons.

I really wish Steam had an option in between thumbs up vs. thumbs down, because this is one of those games. I sort of recommend it, but with some reservations. Compared to other Metroidvanias, this one just feels slow (not causal or easy like Sheepo or Islets, but specifically feels slow).

I started it, quit after an hour and a half, and didn't plan on picking it back up, but I came across a review that recommended playing it in Explorer mode (easy mode). After a long debate with myself, mostly convincing myself that playing a game on easy mode is better than never completing a game I paid for, I decided to try again. I genuinely enjoyed the story and writing for this game, but probably not enough to go back and play it again on normal mode.

The game had potential, but ultimately it never meets it. Combat is slow and tedious and not very interesting, The lore exists and is doled out in bits and pieces like Dark Souls except you don't really interact with the real interesting bits in a meaningful way unlike Dark Souls. The plot you do have is to fetch 5 things around the world, but after each you have to return to the hub, all in the name of padding game length with tedium. The ending is super abrupt with a very boring final fight and just leaves with a "that's it feeling".

In 2022 and beyond, there's a bunch of dark soul/metriodvanas that are all far more competent than Ghost Song.

Art, music and atmosphere are very well made, can't say much of the little voice acting thus far. My main issue is that the opening is just too slow and controls (especially the gun-melee mechanic) are too sluggish to have proper faith that it will get better. On top of that the obnoxious backtracking in the first few hours alone doesn't give me much faith for the progress/level design later in the game. This is made even worse with the devs forgetting an important method of keeping players engaged, that being that every possible dead end should have a reward instead of just a progression block because I felt like I wasted my time several times in the first few hours alone.

If you are out of other metroidvanias to play you might as well play this, but for me it is more worthwhile to play other Metroidvanias.

This is a rough gem but a gem all the same. The writing is excellent and the voice work is good, but it's absolutely carried by its soundtrack - the guy behind the music understood the assignment, it perfectly suits the game's melancholy-yet-warm story and tone. It's absolutely worth playing for those qualities alone. I don't want to spoil any of it, everyone feels so human and I want to give all of them a warm hug, Little Blue in particular. So many times I was left fighting tears, with a lump in my throat and so many conflicting feelings in my chest.

I'd caution about its gameplay though. This is a case heavy with potentially good ideas that suffer from poor or lackluster execution - it seems like it wants to merge the tense and tightly-tuned soulslike combat of Hollow Knight with the ranged focus of 2D Metroid, but it doesn't really nail either, and I'd strongly recommend playing on the easy difficulty so you can experience its story and characters without any roadblocks.

Please play this. It deserves it, despite its faults.

Ghost Song does have a lot going for it. The art style, music and tone create a nice melancholy atmosphere. The characters and interactions get you invested. The game has a nice weighty feel that's tactile without making controls seem unresponsive. However, quality of life issues and some of the inspiration it takes from Dark Souls make it difficult to recommend to everyone.

This is a metroidvania that really makes you appreciate discovering abilities, weapons and developing your character. However, a lot of times it does so by making you really desperate. For example, right from the start, you move incredibly slow. So when you discover the dash ability and then sprint it's like having been underwater for a minute and then going above for air. As a side note it is kind of cool that they made traversal more engaging by the interaction between dash and sprint. Sprint takes a moment to accelerate but if you hit dash while sprinting it maxes your movement instantly and makes you sprint faster.

When exploring you'll occasionally come upon characters or events in the world. They'll often be based on where you are in the story and who you've interacted with before in the world. The problem is that with so few fast travel locations it makes it too tedious to keep checking every location for a new event or to progress an ongoing sidequest. There's also little in the way of guiding you to these events. On top of that, when you pick up plot items you are denied the ability to fast travel and often have to traverse a large portion of the map back to the quest giver. Which just feels like cheap padding and makes future replays undesirable.

Combat design implements some interesting interplay between your ranged weapon and your melee. As you fire your main gun the barrel heats up which makes it weaker but it makes your melee more effective. This creates a need for balance between the two early on but as you progress, uncover abilities and develop your character it is a good idea to focus on a specific style as enemies can be tough and spongy until the very late game. You really don't want to lose a fight because you drop your experience jelly - which is Ghost Song's equivalent of souls from Dark Souls - upon death requiring you to return to the scene of your failure to pick them back up or risk losing all your jelly.

Despite its flaws I still enjoyed it but this is one of those game that will definitely make you consider quitting several times before it's over. Which is a shame because its worst aspects seem so unnecessary and only there out of some sense that it feels it had to follow a trend. Give it a try if you have a lot of patience.

At first glance, the game looked a bit dated, but it definitely grew on me. There's some rough edges. Combat is slow and methodical; often move one step at a time and lure enemies out. Travelling around is kind tedious because fast-travel points are really rate. Level design feels a bit basic. But the characters and lore kinda grow on you. The whole game has some sort of melancholic tone. The scenery is nice. I think I'd really like to explore more of it now. It really has that Souls-like feel of needing to do some work to even begin understanding what's going on.

Played the game originally on gamepass, ended up buying the game on steam to play the extra content update.
Overall a pretty good metroidvania, I liked that the map is very open if you have the skill to fight stronger enemies or figure out tricks to skip certain areas or bosses and that doing so does not seem to stall your progress at all (atleast I never got softlocked this way). The level up system seemed to favour just leveling up Damage as you ended up getting upgrades to boost your defensive and utilty levels by a percentage of your damage ones. Because if this I felt that he levelup system was probably the "worst" part about the game.

All 3 of my playthroughs, Gamepass, Steam, Speedrun for achievement were completed by just stacking damage and using the 2 modules to get defense and utilities from damage as statistically it didn't seem worth upgrading the other 2 as they all shared the same cost of levelup making it less beneficial to spread out your levels.

Despite this I would still highly recommend this game to anyone who likes metroidvanias, the movement abilities and open map style make exploration fun and rewarding as there are quite a lot of hidden rewards around the maps.

Would recommend doing atleast 1 blind playthrough and then go again with a guide to find all the story dialogues but if you only plan to do 1 playthrough then i would recommend using a guide to not miss anything.

Bon métroidvania inspiré de Métroid. Les points forts étant son ambiance, son histoire, sa DA, sa musique. Le jeu arrive bien à nous emmener dans son univers. Le point négatif étant la répétitivitée des niveaux, on déambule dans des galeries, des tunels, et encore des galeries, qui se ressemblent un peu toutes au bout d'un moment. Mais les 30h de jeu pour en venir à bout sont plutot simpa, pour les amateurs du genre.

Read the reviews by Jackson and BlueX. They're probably signaled as the most useful reviews, for a very good reason - they perfectly articulate this game's multiple flaws. Ghost Song had potential, but it has some atrocious designs that push players away.

At the start it was a bit slow going and I admit I nearly gave up. But after a restart and trying it in Explorer mode (I believe that's what it's called. Essentially the easy mode) it became a bit more fun. It's still pretty tough, and it's not always clear where to go, but it never feels unfair. Very well made, and while I've only found two ship parts I'm really enjoying the exploration.

Just a note for newbies, as it's a mistake I made, don't immediately go left and try fighting the guy that's there. You will just die, repeatedly. Ignore it and go to the right.

The game shines in its atmosphere, and its sound design by extension. The combat is -okay-, there's some good ideas here and there but it often becomes a bit of a chore. Exploration is a mixed bag. The planet was fun to explore while I had forward momentum, but getting stuck sucked due to very infrequent save- and warp points.
The writing is kinda annoying, but the overall vibe and theme of the story was pleasant enough.

Overall somewhere between 6,5-7/10 as an experience.

A really atmospheric and well made metroidvania. Haven't played one in a while as one had not clicked with me. This does a great job of driving you forward with frequent items and upgrades to find. It's here for a good time not a long time, about 10 to 12 hours to finish.

At times the game's bosses felt unbalanced. Some bosses you just had to be careful until their health eventually reached 0. Other bosses I had to fight them like my life was on the line. I did feel accomplished when I defeated them; but also I got wrapped up in the world & its story. I was sad when the game ended.

If you're looking to scratch that itch for an immersive Metroid-like world, I recommend this game. (Just be ready to face some struggling boss fights.)

Absolutely dripping in atmosphere, it really nails the be stranded on a dying world vibe. Art that can look equally lovely and grotesque. Game play feels tight and responsive with a level of challenge thats difficult but feels fair, you can make some pretty fun builds with the gear you find.

One one aspect that caught me completely off guard is how appealing the characters are. They are well written well and dish out just enough interesting tidbits about themselves to make you stop and listen whenever go by them. Their voice acting is really well done too.

Slow start, but I think the atmosphere for the game makes it ok.

- Amazing atmosphere and art
- Frustrating mechanics and difficulty (max HP loss on death, difficult bosses weren't "fun" difficult, no controller rebinding, super clunky wall-climbing, "forced" map traversal, etc...)
- Great voice acting all-around.
- Is able to maintain mystery without being stupidly cryptic.

As a whole, there's so much good in this game that it makes the frustrating parts feel worse. Plenty of squandered potential despite the game still being quite enjoyable.
