Balordaggine totale, devi aprire FOG 2 per fare le battaglie, altrimenti hai solo la mappa. Che porcata. State lontani da sta schifezza. E' proprio il concetto di base che è sbagliato e bizzarro. Torno a giocare ai Total war o ai Paradox.

This game is really fun. I got it in a humble bundle and also have FoG2, It makes for some interesting battles in FoGII as you have to go to war with the army you have and not point buy the army you want.

I just wish they had a Bronze Age DLC so I can terrorize the Mediterranean as the Sea People.

Great game. Because of its subtle intricacies this is a game less for Total War fans, more so for those who like Paradox games in concept but are disappointed each time in the lack of agency and fun those offer. This game has actual strategic choices to make. It shines in the amount of buildings to develop your regions with, coupled with its elegant trade system (no route babysitting). Combat is a mixed bag: the autoresolve system is neat but it's sometimes frustrating to get the right troops fighting.

The biggest negative is the user interface. It's passable, but it could be so much better. The game has a wealth of numbers and mini-systems to grok, but it presents the info in a very unfriendly way. If they manage to step this up, this series would easily become a true and known rival to paradox.
Btw, I can recommend the DLC. It adds boons and impediments, and regional decisions. These are great additions, although maybe not for your first run.

I really like the decadence mechanic, it sets a difference from other games were you straight up gobble all the map and call it a day, on this one you have to think more and manage your nation better, the autobattles is wayy better than other titles too, probably the best has far i know, and the fact you can connect the battles to another game (FOG) makes it better

本人喜歡希臘題材的戰略遊戲
準確來說是想玩一些可以靠玩家發展擴大經濟體量
讓斯巴達可以農出一大票重裝步兵跟方陣兵四處找人戰他OO的遊戲

這種題材的遊戲這麼多年斷斷續續的尋找
比較有名的有某S社的即時戰略全面戰爭羅馬2
(但我比較想玩回合制4X 所以羅馬2玩了一段時間後又再繼續找了)

找了好幾款冷門的回合制和即時戰略又帶有希臘重步兵的遊戲
但基本上都是很可惜有點美中不足
(不是經濟系統很累贅就是根本沒獨特單位不同派系只是換支旗換個名
用同樣的兵種在互撞然後拚派系加成這樣.....)
把剛上市時各種劣評某P社的帝國羅馬翻出來重新研究了幾星期
P社出的可取之處當然是有的但不大賣和被劣評也不是沒理由的
光是被那大族酬庸分餅和行省軍團只準分4隊的綁手綁腳做法
已經把興奮感給磨個七七八八了
(雖然可以裝mod啦但你懂我懂P社三不五時便更新一兩下
MOD的製作者都不知幾年沒更新了.....(ry

最後實在對這些遊戲有需求
所以連沒中文的遊戲也開始找了
正巧遇到這款遊戲特價
發行商又是常光僱的那家
所以就試了一下還挺滿意的
因為這款還是有夠冷門的

Not bad. Love the music. Some pretty good detail. Not the most friendly of tools and menu systems, but not horrible. The history seems fairly good. Some units may be a bit OP. Has good play-ability and replay-ability, but now I'm hankering to play Kingdoms which seems to have addressed some of the issues. I may sound a bit negative, but I'd give it a solid B+.

Admittedly, this game has some innovative aspects that positively sets it apart from other games of the same genre. However, I didn't really enjoy playing this game. Most of the time, it felt like a chore. I think that to enjoy this game you really have to love historical grand strategy games AND micromanagement combined with dice roll mechanics. I wanted to try this game because I really like Rome Total War 1 and 2, but Field of Glory Empires feels so repetitive, slow and almost static for me. The AI seems stupid or acts randomly - it is hard or useless to plan any diplomatic strategy because of this. The game manual is very long but unhelpful and does not explain at all the various technical details and game mechanics. User interface is atrocious. There are relatively very few historical details and descriptions in the game which is disappointing for this genre.

Really enjoyable probabilistic game mechanics. There's an intentional balance of control, which is generally limited.

The economy and decadence systems are very unique, and engaging.

WEGO turns are also a huge perk as well. Trying to anticipate military moves is fantastic. Really hope to compete in MP someday in this game as it's very well set up for it!

This game is less simulation and more "board game" like, which I really enjoy.

There's no management, RNG determines the outcome. You can get bonuses to rng dice rolls but its way too random for my liking. Worse, a lot of info isn't shown to the player or explained. It's an interesting idea, but preffer impairator rome way more. Has some great mods too!

Muy recomendado,soy un jugador del genero 4x, el juego te da la opción de pintar el mapa aunque puede acabar desintegrando tu imperio por exceso de expansión, donde mas brilla es en la gestión de la ciudad permitiéndote construir edificios que añaden diferentes tipo de recursos.

Lo puedes combinar con el juego de field of glory II para las batallas tácticas.
Tanto si te gustan los 4x como los juegos de gestión de imperios o los tácticos por turnos es recomendado (para los hardcoreta tácticos es imprescindible el Fiel of GloryII).

As a student of ancient military history, and particularly the age of Alexander and the Diadochi, I enjoy many aspects of this game. As with the Total War games, it brings together the strategic aspects with the tactical, with its building and maneuver on the games strategic map of the world, and resolving battles on a tactical map ( via its Empire Battles interface with Field of Glory II).
Lots to enjoy.
There are several features, though that ultimately make the game tedious, and eventually unplayable. Which is unfortunate, because with a bit of tweaking the developers would have a game for the ages. Let me list them, with brief explanations:
1. The Loyalty feature overpowers the game. We can argue if constant deteriorating loyalty and revolts is historically accurate (it isn't), but it doesn't make the game more fun or playable. Which is, after all, the goal of any game, right? Loyalty, especially in your home territory, should be high and stay high, so long as you are not losing wars or being raided by a neighbor. Or have an idiot in charge. Which brings me to...
2. Leaders: they come and go randomly, with odd and ahistorical names, and tend to be bad. The player has no choice, and it throws off game play. The only historical leader you get is the the one you start turn 1 with, and even that one doesn't live as long as they historically did, but die randomly. All after that are out of the blue, with no succession system, family tree, or (for me the most irritating) historically accurate names. (For instance, the Seleucids, and Macedonian dynasty, have Persian (sort of) names. Not an Antiochus, Demetrius, or Seleucus to be found! The Antigonids, most of whom were either named Antigonus, Demetrius, with the odd Philip and Perseus in the end, NEVER have such names; but instead unusual or made-up Greek-like names.) The developers should fix the names and add a family tree succession system, in which the oldest son inherits. Or, here's a novel idea, use the historical succession when possible. I.E, after Seleucus I, his son Antiochus I inherits the Seleucid crown. With the Antigonids, Antigonus Monopthalmus (One Eyed) is followed by Demetrius I (the Besieger), who is followed by Antigonus II Gonatus, etc. Crack a book, do a little homework. Which reminds me....
3. Small matter, but make the kings leaders who can be generals of one of the faction's army. This was an age of warrior kings. The army was commanded in battle by the ruler. And, BTW, all kings were warriors and generals, though not all were competent at either.
4. This is one you may not be able to fix, but the tactical transference system from Field of Glory: Empire to Field of Glory II does not produce accurate representation of the player's army. Especially with larger armies, all the units don't make the transfer from strategic to the tactical. This can be very irritating, when on the strategic map you have a unit of elite Companion cavalry or, say, Silver Shields, and when you go to the Field of Glory II tactical battle those units are missing. I have read that this is an abstract representation, but if it could be made a more exact transference, it would make the game so much better.
Well, those are my chief beefs. If these tweaks are ever made, let us know. I'll play the game again.
OH, one more suggestion: add an Age of Justinian/Dark Ages Scenario. That would rock!

This game has some unusual but excellent mechanics in place to simulate the difficulties that come with expanding too far, too fast. In most or at least many 4x games the only limit to how big your army gets or how fast you conquer the map is your available funds. In this game you can certainly attempt to spam units and conquer everything in sight but your empire will quickly collapse from within as your economy crashes and your provinces revolt. Unlike other games that unexpectedly spawn rebel armies in random provinces as an artificial brake on rapid expansion this game models the infrastructure and economy so that civil unrest is both predictable and preventable but often at the cost of putting off military campaigns until the nation is in better shape socially and economically.

There is a bit of a learning curve but the manual is very helpful and there are several very good tutorials on Youtube. I recommend Strategy Gaming Dojo's excellent, 12 part tutorial. The game also includes several short video tutorials but I didn't find them especially helpful.

If you own Field of Glory II you can export battles (except for sieges and naval battles) to that game and fight them tactically - kind of like a turn based Total War. This is the feature that eventually prompted me to buy the game. However, the battle resolution system in Empires is so good I more often than not find myself just resolving the battles in game without bothering to go into Field of Glory II.

I also appreciate that I do not have to micromanage everything from family drama to individual political appointments. In fact, the only time you have to worry about making appointments in the game is when you assign generals to command your armies - and assigning good commanders matters. You do not micromanage politics or trade in the game. Pretty much you're just establishing policies and the overall direction you want to go in and the game handles the rest. It's very different than what I've gotten used to but I really like it. If anyone remembers Master of Orion II, the economy and infrastructure is handled similarly to that. If you've played both games you know what I mean.

If you enjoy grand strategy, especially in this time period, I strongly recommend the game. I also recommend getting Field of Glory II but only if you enjoy tactical level battles and don't mind the turn based format.

Ever wanted to play Civ in a certain Era? Ever played a Paradox title and thought to yourself "Jee I wish it had Total War battles in it, it would be perfect!" Well, look no further. With just this game you can already achieve the former, and with this game plus Field of Glory II, you can achieve the latter. It is a bit complex to start off with, but not as opaque as the game might seem itself to be. This is where if you ever played a 4x game like Civ or Endless, the muscles regarding population, building, output, and imperial planning comes. Similarly to Civ, you can plan out your provinces in different ways, from being self sustaining far off colonies to an autarchic core 'tall' provinces; you can even mix and match, with having a dedicated Imperial core providing you with culture and military, and a variety of clients and small colonias. In fact, take it from me, you do not want to expand so fast. As the game has a great system that I am now mad Paradox Grand Strategy does not, that being an elegant decadence system based on your cultural output as opposed to a variety of factors from your ruler bonus/malus to your financials to the size of your empire. I am pleasantly surprised to see this also works for AI as well. In my later Cyrenica game at the Rise of Persia start, I had a scary expanding Carthage that somehow managed to steamroll across North Africa in a few turns. In any other 4x, such a snowball would be near impossible overcome, but as I come to find out, due to the rapid expansion AI had done, Carthage had turned from a highly centralized and populous core in Tunis to a chaotic mess of rebelling provinces that stretched entirety of Carthaginian military like butter on too much toast. In one war all the gains they had collapsed. Very fun thing is sometimes rebels will form their own nations.

So if you have Field of Glory II, this turns into a more in depth Rome: Total War. 100% Recommended even just this game for the civilization building feeling of it!

P.S. If the developers are reading this. I am really enjoying Kingdoms as well. But for the realizable mid to late future, are you guys thinking about merging these two games? I think the fact of having own both but more than that exit from one enter to other, even though really fast comparatively, is I think a big impediment on that sort of experience you guys are trying to give us.

Really solid grand strategy title. One of my favorites, frankly. Not difficult to pick up the basics, but offers a lot of depth when it comes to optimizing your run and getting the most out of civ.

The only complaint might be the performance; turns take a while to process, which is expected, but the UI locks up while it's going on. I could understanding that being a pain point for some people, but it's totally fine if you're listening to a podcast or watching a show on the side.

Great game! Surprised it doesn't have more players really. Lots of different playable factions with their own characteristics and pros/cons. The battle system is great, I have never played with exported battles and I don't feel like something is lacking. There are so many unique units to use and options to hire them locally or build them if you gain their province. Decadence and legacy work brilliantly and keep big empires in check. Overall it feels very dynamic and realistic in some ways, as all your decisions really impact other nations and have an effect. In Paradox games there might be more options but often less actually happens in game because of them. I have to recommend this to anyone who enjoys grand strategy games or even just enjoys the campaign map of total war games. Read the manual, it helps!

Some cons:
The UI is functional but has its issues

A proper in game wiki is really needed, just to check a nation, unit (especially provincial) or building quickly! Even just getting a popup from the search function!?

The turns can get very sluggish, especially on a lower spec PC or with a large empire. Not a dealbreaker for me but might be for some.

Fun game, especially due to the region development mini-game where your choices of what is available to build vary each turn. Things become smoother once you understand trade and how bonuses can be gained by building structures that produce or import the bonus-generating trade goods. My only real complaint is that the interface should indicate what goods in a region are generating bonuses to surrounding regions. This becomes important when you decide to tear down low level structures.

Bu oyunu tavsiye etmeyi çok isterdim fakat edemem.

Öncelikle oyuna ilk baktığınızda çok kompleks ve öğrenmesi zor bir sistem varmış gibi gözüküyor fakat, oyun oldukça basit ve kendi içerisindeki kompleks sistemlerle (ticaret ekranından bahsediyorum) çok fazla haşır neşir olmuyorsunuz.
Bir kaç fetih yaptıktan sonra çok fazla kaynak ediniyorsunuz ve hangi ülkeyi seçerseniz seçin "Asker bas dal, asker bas dal." şeklinde ilerliyorsunuz.
Kartopu etkisi strateji oyunlarında vazgeçilmez bir unsur olsa da bu oyunda çok fazla hissettim.

Oyuna has olan "decadence" sistemi ise başlarda başınıza bela olurken oyun ilerledikçe ve kültür alanına yatırım yaptıkça neredeyse hiç bir etkisi kalmıyor.
Buna karşın yapay zeka ise oldukça iyi, siz sürekli fetih yapıp genişlerken çevrenizdeki ülkeler boş durmuyor ve size savaş açıyor.

Ancak bu oyun eğlenceli değil ve oyunun başı hariç strateji yapmanız gereken bir yer yok.

Se juega por turnos de ejecución simultánea -sistema WeGo- y presenta novedades interesantes tales como el legado y la decadencia que influyen en el enfoque de las partidas. Un gran número de facciones con sus distintas unidades, idiosincrasias y contextos. Además puedes exportar las batallas en campo abierto -no los asedios ni las navales- al FoG II desplegando los ejércitos en un mapa táctico y, aunque no es imprescindible para mí, entiendo que lo complementa y eleva a otro nivel.

Las batallas se resuelven mediante tirada de dados con modificadores en función del general al mando, terreno -que determina el frente de operaciones-, valor de ataque y defensa de las unidades -considerando su experiencia y estado de salud- y si hay o no unidades de apoyo.

No carece de limitaciones -insignificantes en comparación con la notable calidad del título-: sin tutorial integrado remite a unos vídeos -igual que Battle Brothers- aunque presenta unos cuadros de ayuda dentro del juego; en la pantalla de inicio aparece un aviso para que adquieras la expansión o el FoG II -entiendo su razón de ser pero causa mala impresión-; el manual en inglés no incorpora los valores de los parámetros del juego sino que ofrece una orientación general -hay guías en Steam- y algún que otro detalle menor.

Podría extenderme en sus virtudes pero intentaré abreviar: una traducción de calidad, el enorme número de edificios -¡casi 400!- con sus bonus y efectos; la amplia variedad de facciones -¡más de 70!- y unidades; la interacción entre legado, cultura, lealtad y decadencia; una IA competente; la diplomacia -que fue revisada-; el comercio automatizado de 52 mercancías distintas; es ampliamente modificable; su compromiso entre accesibilidad y profundidad, gran rejugabilidad, etc.

FoGE is a novel historical strategic game in a few senses.

It gives a strong role to culture, creating strongly asymmetric factions with distinct units, buildings, and bonuses -- even at the expense of balance. Some factions will never be able to build the top-end army units, and some of them (I'm looking at you, Greek's with access to the stoa) have unique factional structures that are strongly superior to every other faction in the game.

Second, the build system is randomized, in the sense that you can't pick any structure, but are given a list of options. You can continually reroll the options on the build list, but this requires a full turn and wastes resources. The result is a sometimes frustrating process of being unable to get the one building you need, but it also helps to make each city unique and distinctive, and promotes specialization. It also makes for varied decisions, as each building's value shifts situationally in ways that make for endless permutations of interesting short-list decisions, rather than one global optimized build queue -- This one, or this other one?!

Once you accept this, the other novel feature of the game is the concept of an unavoidable time-dependent cycle of power. Factions advance and regress through various states of political development, and as nations accumulate "age" (an in-game attribute that can be changed or reset by various events) they can become old and penalized in ways that make it hard to avoid fracture and collapse.

On the easier settings, this mostly affects the AI, and players can avoid age-related collapse. On the highest difficulty settings, human players become substantially challenged to advance and AI factions are stabilized. Empire size is a huge factor in these calculations, and trying to create a massive "blob" empire that spans the map will make for a difficult process in managing the decadence statistic that drives old empires toward collapse.

Graphics are minimal, making the game a retro and low-frills experience, but the gameplay systems are solid and based on diminishing returns formulas that result in constantly varying challenges. The combat system can be integrated with Field of Glory's tactical engine, allowing for any interesting and balanced battles to be played out in full detail as a mini-game (though not, alas, in the multiplayer version of the game).

The multiplayer game is highly skewed toward diplomatic strategies rather than military conquest, and most games can be won with the simple strategy of "grind favor with large factions and use diplomacy to buy their territories". There are no geographic restrictions on this, resulting in weirdly ahistorical outcomes like "the Gauls purchase large portions of Persia and eastern India". This is also true in any multiplayer game where a large faction's player suddenly quits, creating a desperate feeding frenzy where all allies try to buy up the most valuable territory rapidly ("Egypt quit, quick, buy the pyramids!"). Reducing the power of diplomacy would go a long way toward making the game feel more authentically like Rome sequentially conquering its neighbors.

Overall, this is a uniquely satisfying game with a "cycle of empires" mechanic that creates the real feel of empires rising and then collapsing if they become arrogant and expand aggressively -- the AI empires on easy settings and yours on the harder ones! This makes for a more varied and unpredictable experience than the linear or exponential power curve of other similar games.

Great game. Kicks my rear on a regular basis. Not sure why I consider this a relaxing game; but it is very fun. I haven't grasped all the mechanics yet, since FOG:E is complex. Perhaps being more aggressive would work better than my typical passive-waiting-building style. Either way, the game is well done and a joy for someone like me who is looking for a really strong computer to play against.

I'd recommend it, especially whenever you can get it during a sale event!

This game is a huge disappointment.
Everything about the game is great, EXCEPT for the battle system, which completely and totally ruins the game. The battle system makes absolutely no sense, and you have absolutely no control over any aspect of the battles.
I can only assume that everyone who could find their ass with both hands worked on the other aspects of the game, and then the found some morons with fetal alcohol syndrome combined with profound inbreeding to design and code the battle system.
What a shame...

When I was a member of a wargame club way back in the day, we sometimes used to play strategic or operational board games with map and counters but, when it came time to resolve a battle, rather than using just a die roll, we'd play the battle out using miniatures on a separate (big) table. It was an amazing hybrid, providing the best of both worlds.

If you have Field of Glory: Empires AND Field of Glory II (preferably with all DLCs), you can do EXACTLY that same thing on your computer.* The first time I did it, I was playing Pyrrhus in the small tutorial campaign. I passed my first battle over to FoG II, then spent an hour fighting it out (and winning it). I then passed it back to Empires and got a display showing what my victory meant in campaign terms. It was JUST LIKE playing a strategic boardgame augmented by tactical minis battles back in the day.

Yes, it takes more time to play that way (even minus the half-hour I spent giggling after my first Empires-FOG linked battle), but I can think of very few computer games which offer this INSANE level of immersion.

*If you don't have FoG II, that's okay -- you can still resolve battles automatically. FoG II isn't required.

ADDENDUM: Please don't waste your time with the "tutorial" videos. They're useless, being as they are just extended advertisements for the game.

I didn't really want to give this game a negative review because there's a lot that I do like about it. The Decadence and Age system is interesting. The trade and commerce system has huge potential. The battles are better than I was expecting.

But there's one thing that is holding it back for me: The randomised building options. This system just doesn't work for me. I could write a long analysis about it but that's already been done by other reviewers, so I'll just keep this short.

Sorry, but the player not having the option to choose which structure to build, where, and when is a deal breaker for me. There's got to be a better game design choice than RNG for building options. This is a major flaw in an otherwise good game.

"Field of Glory: Empires" is a "me too" entry in a somewhat well served niche of ancient Roman turn based strategy games, trying to sit somewhere between being a ripoff of Europa Universalis and being a Ripoff of Total War: Rome, but being significanlty worse than both, with some completely irritating business practices bolted on... well, it wouldn't be a Slitherine game unless they priced and marketed it to try screw gamers as much as possible.

When you try to first start a campaign, by default it launches the Steam overlay and takes you to the DLC store as they try scam you into buying somewhat empty DLC just so you can play a game you already just bought. Screw that. After a while you can find one of the two campaigns that's included in the game, and off you go. Yep, it's basically the strategic view for Total War: Rome, only not as good, and yet also needlessly convoluted.

But don't worry... there's a tutorial! Oh no wait, it's just a playlist of Youtube videos. Yeah, the developer couldn't even work out how to make an interactive tutorial! Go watch a streamer instead! Is this a joke? Wait until you see the price!

Wading into the game you'll discover you can't do any of the Total War: Rome combat because that's in a completely different game you also have to buy. See, this is why it's almost imposssible to recommend Slitherine games to anyone. They're B-grade ripoffs of far better strategy games, and they sell for twice the price, if you're lucky. It's a weird business model, and I don't like it.

On the technical implementation side, while this is far from brilliant, the basic checks are passed... customisable resolution, a few tweaks, it's not insulting to the eyes... no, the problem here is more with the pricing, marketing, and what you get for your money... and what you get is less than you could get if you shop the competition.

You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality game this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me.

So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?

"Field of Glory: Empires" has the almost scam-like price of $40 USD (insane, right), for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is over TWICE THE PRICE of the latest Total War: Rome game!!!

Unfortunately Steam reviewers aren't presented with a "Maybe" option... if they did, that's what I'd choose. This isn't a completely bad game, but it's also not one of the best. As always, if you read my review and you can overlook the negatives I've called out, or they just aren't important to you, then by all means go ahead and buy this, if you've already played the competitors games to death, and yet still want more (and don't care if it's not as good).

This is probably the best AGEOD game ever made. It is not horrendously broken. It only has a couple of crashes. Turn resolution works WAY better than prior. The UI and graphics are way more gamer-friendly (the old ones looked like a weird tabletop half-breed). It has an actual functioning diplomacy system, dynamism, tons of replayability, and long/fulfilling campaigns. It does strangely lock up at 90fps max, no matter what, but this still runs a lot better than other competing grand strategy games (like Supreme Ruler). PBEM+ multiplayer is a joy; if a little slow. Minimal DLC is a plus. Negative is: Every time you go to start a game, it prompts you with a DLC that you probably don't own and tells you to buy it. Pretty scummy, but way less than say, Paradox. There's a lot the game (and manual) doesn't teach you, which is unfortunate. However, if you can get past that (which I think most players can, since skipping tutorials is a common gaming phenomenon) the core gameplay loop is intuitive, reliable, and fun. This game blew my expectations out of the water. They were admittedly low, given that every AGEOD game before this is broken to the point of unplayability. "Playable" was all I hoped for, but I got an actual solid grand strategy game instead. Feels like Slitherine really whipped them into shape as their new publisher. I'd 100% recommend this. This is the best AGEOD has ever been.

Grand strategy che dà importanza soprattutto all'aspetto militare e allo sviluppo delle città. Carino come si debbe gestire la decadenza e la corruzione all'interno del proprio stato e come non si possa semplicemente colorare la mappa (pena un'enorme crescita della decadenza che ti porta in poco tempo alla guerra civile). Si simula abbastanza bene la dinamica di ascesa e declino di un impero nel corso dei secoli (il gioco si apre nel 310 a.C. e si chiude circa nel 200 d.C., ogni anno corrisponde a un turno).
A me come gioco piace molto, anche l'integrazione delle battaglie con Field of Glory funziona, sebbene leggermente macchinosa (si chiude il gioco, si apre l'altro, poi si ritorna al gioco principale). Se devo essere sincero però, non è un gioco che forse vale la pena comprare se non si avesse già Field of Glory, perchè altrimenti l'aspetto militare lascerebbe un po' a desiderare.
Infine, segnalo una lodevole aderenza alla realtà storica delle unità militari e delle condizioni degli stati (allo start).

Exceptionally good game! I would go so far as to say one of the grand strategy games of all time. The economy, decisions, military, empire building is top notch. The game uses the pops and economic building as the part of the main drivers. It is fun simple more clear control than other grand strategy. The economic building is has a card draw like mechanic but allows you to shuffle for one turn if you are looking for particular building.

Обзор, конечно, запоздалый - ибо уже вышла Field of glory: Kingdoms. Но лучше, как говорится, позже, чем никогда. Если вкратце - игра просто замечательная. Реально жемчужина в мире 4Х-стратегий. Исторический период - с 310 года до н.э. по 190 н.э. В начале игры, Рим еще не захватил Италию, а Диадохи - вовсю делят империю Александра Великого. Средиземным морем пытается овладеть могучий Карфаген (Он тут реально могуч, а не как в Rome: Total war), а где то в дремучих лесах Германии, местные троглодиты пытаются изобрести колесо... В "Империях" нет перегруженных механик, как во всяких Европах Унивесалисах и прочих Крусэйдер Кингсах. Здания строятся достаточно быстро и, главное, бесплатно. Так что ваше царство будет поступательно развиваться... если вы конечно, не будете воевать ))) В "Империях" очень интересная боевая система. Поначалу она кажется сложной и непривычной - но если почитать мануал, все становится на свои места и изучив несколько несложных правил, механика боёвки становится интуитивно понятной. "Но воевать - сложно" (ц) Клаузевиц. Кстати, для того чтобы сражаться - совсем не обязательно покупать тактическую Field of glory 2. Это затягивает игру, так как сражений будет много. кроме того, в мультиплеере бои будут проводиться только на стратегической карте. А теперь о мультиплеере. Он тут реально замечательный. Одновременно в партии могут участвовать до 16 игроков. Игра ведется по системе ПБЕМ++ и на ход даётся от 1 до 3х суток. Поэтому, сразу говорю, одна партия может занять до года реального времени. Стоит отметить, что половина игроков сразу же отсеивается после 30-40 ходов. Управление их державами берёт ИИ (полководец из компа неважный, честно говоря), а в игре остаются самые опытные и упорные игроки. Но , в целом, играть по сети очень интересно. Так что, как только освоитесь с механиками игры - ныряйте в сетевуху. Не пожалеете. Теперь о механиках. Наиболее важной (и наиболее сложной) является механика "упадка" (decadence). "Упадок" - это особый "антиресурс", если можно так выразиться, который накапливается в вашей нации по мере развития и действует на государство как раковая опухоль. Лично я вместо "упадка" использую термин "вырождение" (то, кто читал Климова - поймут). "Вырождение" накапливается при постройке определённых зданий и, как ни странно, в момент наибольшего расцвета империи - когда граждане начинают нежиться в роскоши и, зажравшись, пускаться во все тяжкие. Приведу пример: поначалу, в игре будет пипец как туго с деньгами. Вы можете построить лавку ростовщика. Местный Sруль Мойшевич будет исправно отстёгивать вам небольшой процент за покровительство (тем больше - чем больше населения в регионе). Однако, как ростовщики "зарабатывали" деньги, думаю все знают - и в регионе начнёт копится недовольство и -"вырождение". Потому как часть людей сочтут, что душить сограждан процентами - это таки круто и станут "кулаками". Второй пример - вы можете построить публичный дом. Местное быдло, радостно гогоча ("каждый мужик имеет право ходить налево, епта") ринется в лупанарий. Как следствие - уровень радости населения повысится. Но "вырождение" станет накапливаться быстрее - ибо девки побегут торговать собою, а понятие супружеской верности постепенно сойдёт на нет. Про рынки рабов - и рассказывать ничего не надо. В какой то момент, когда ваше Царство, казалось бы, успешно развивается и воюет, Вы обнаружите, что население страны превратилось в циничных гоVнометариев, которые не хотят работать (а тем более сражаться). И смысл жизни которых - быть всем недовольными, критиковать власть и жрать в три горла (ну и пороть, все что движется). Ничего не напоминает ? )))) В общем, только за эту механику, FOG: Empires заслуживает крепкой пятёрки. Еще раз повторяю - достоинств у игры масса. Игра - отличная. Берите - и не пожалеете (но желательно, по скидке, ибо игра - недешёвая). Надеюсь, что Field of Glory: Kingdoms окажется ничуть не хуже. Но об этом - уже в следующем обзоре. Спасибо за внимание!

[h1]Do you like painting maps? Do you like excel sheets? Do you like tabletop games and rolling dice? Look no further.[/h1]

This is an amazing game, highly recommended if you like empire building and managment. It's a nuanced and balanced, turn based, grand strategy game, with a learning curve rewarded with layers and layers of depth.

Unlike other "map painting games", FoG Empires includes a "decadence" mechanic, that will punish you from expanding into zones that don't share your culture, so you'll have to carefully plan and think your expansion strategy. This doesn't mean you can't snowball, Rome, Macedonia or Persia (if you own the DLC) can expand rapidly, but you'll still need to plan and pace it right. You can also win the game by developing your economy and culture, and building specific milestones, so you don't need to be a warring monarch.

Combat is great, but not for everyone, I guess. Combat is the most tabletop-like part of the game, as you'll have a number of "duels" between the opposing armies, and each "duel" will have the unit's stats added to dice rolls. You have a lot of control over it though, as your army's composition and width, as well as the terrain, are key to winning battles, and I've never felt the RNG to be too unfair. Alternatively, you have the option of playing out the battles in Field of Glory II, and I have to say that's [b]great[/b], as you can pass from the grand strategy control of your armies to a tactical, unit by unit control. Having said that, FoG II is also a quirky, turn based, tabletop like game, so it might not fit everyone's taste.

The diplomacy, legacy and trade mechanics are interesting and deep, but I needed to watch a couple of yt guides to get the hang of them (check out Sampstra Games). But once you do, it only makes the game more interesting and the planning you need to do more intricate and nuanced.

Many reviews compare this game to Paradox Interactive titles, but I find it closer to other turn base strategy games, having mechanics that remind me of Masters of Orion 2 (population managing) or Shadow Empire (having card game like mechanics).

Lastly, the game runs perfectly in Linux via Wine/Proton. You need to run a small script to create symlinks for the FoG II integration to work, it's on the ProntonDB page for the game.

Easy recommend. It’s an immersive grand strategy game. If you enjoyed the old Total Wars and Paradox games, do try it out.

Not much to add to other positive reviews, except that despite being listed as unplayable, the game runs rather well on the Steam Deck (only the UI/font is small). You can even get the export battles to work (do a bit of googling and you’ll find the solution), so you can play out battles on FoG2 on the Deck.

필드오브글로리2가 있어서 함께 플레이 하는중입니다.
옛날 턴제 전투를 좋아한다면 아주 재미있습니다, 귀찮을땐 엠파이어에 탑재된 오토전투를 사용하면 매번 턴제전투를 하지 않아도 되어서 편리성도 좋은편입니다.

단점은 튜토리얼이 터무니 없이 부족하고 한글이 지원안되어서 게임 구조를 이해하기가 매우 힘든편입니다.
이런류의 게임은 특별하게 뛰어난 점이 없으면 내정을 쉽고 빠르게 진행되는 스타일을 좋아하는데, 아쉽게도 토탈워처럼 건물 세우는게 다인데, 건물을 세운다 해도 도시 모양 커지는거외엔 별다른 비주얼차이가 없는데다, 한땀한땀 건물 짓다 보니 시간(턴)도 오래 걸리는 편입니다. 참고로 삼탈워식 내정을 별로 안좋아하는 편입니다.

이 게임의 진보,쇠퇴 시스템도 특이한데, 아직 완전 이해는 못하고 있지만, 대략 진보와 쇠퇴, 그리고 문화와 타락 시스템으로 국가의 수명을 가늠하는 다른게임에서는 못본 독특한 시스템을 가지고 있습니다.

크킹이나 유로파에 토탈워 전투를 할수 있는 모드가 있는데, 차라리 이게임처럼 FOG2로 연결해서 할수 있는 모드가 있으면 너무 좋을것 같습니다.
세계지도에서 대전략 그리고 FOG2를 이용한 전술전투등 턴제 게임을 좋아하신다면 추천 드립니다.

Carthage must be destroyed...? Not as simple as it sounds!
Thought I was just getting the hang of this world conquest thing and then civil war struck!
Really enjoyed the battle mechanic as a miniature gamer. Lots of historical details to appreciate as well.
Much easier to pick up and play than TW or Civ style titles which take forever!
The link with the FOG battle games is good but not essential.

Très bon jeu de stratégie au tour par tour simultané sur une période (l'Antiquité) sous-représentée dans le genre.
Les mécanismes sont simples mais pas simplistes, c'est intelligent et vraiment bien fichu en terme de système de jeu. Ca sort des sentiers battus, et c'est un régal à jouer.

On peut lui reprocher des graphismes qui ne flattent pas spécialement la rétine (notamment la carte principale et les unités), mais ils sont fonctionnels, et il ne faut pas oublier que ce sont les mécaniques qui sont importantes ici. J'aurai aimé une gestion, même légère des personnages principaux (ont choisi juste quels sont les généraux à la tête des armées), mais ce sera présent dans le prochain jeu, Field of Glory Kingdoms. Je l'attends avec impatience celui-là !

Enfin, il n'y a pas de tuto en jeu qui permette au joueur d'apprendre au fur et à mesure des tours, mais il y en a un à la fin du manuel (manuel traduit pas votre serviteur et à télécharger depuis les guides steam), donc il n'y a plus de raison de ne pas s'y mettre.

En conclusion, un super chouette jeu trop peu connu qui mérite bien votre argent et votre temps de cerveau disponible.

Bugs, no information about crisises like:
- why nothing can be build
- why there is no population growth

Too many revolts. It similar unplayable game like UE 1.

Too simple = boring. Almost no mechanics.
Battles don't provide fun.

Remarkabe game. I am a veteran of decades playing turn based strategy games. Civ 1 through 6, xcom, humakind EU4 Old World, endless legend, endless space and so on. This feels fresh and notably just building an army and grabbing every region that is not nailed down doesn't work very well here. I actually had to start thinking a bit. I admit I haven't tried a playthrough with one of the major factions like Rome, Carthage, Macedonia, or Egypt. I'll keep honing my skills before I try those. But I am starting to get the idea and it is quite satisfying. Definitely worth a try if you like 4x type games.

this excellent game is one of those that you discover and you say to yourself "why didn't i know about this already" it is very "one more turnish" very deep systems, many game features i've not seen before. the only downer is the lack of a proper in game tutorial. while i like dastactic, his scripted tutorial for this game is not very helpful, it's more like a list of game features, not a proper tutorial. the game is complexx and new users suffer from this. check out the let's play from strategy gaming dojo for good help. but otherwise i'll leave it there i have to get back to ruling the ancient world

This game is janky, badly documented and the graphics look like they should be 20 years old, but it's immense fun. Why? It has found the answers to questions that plague Paradox and Total War games. You can't just build a huge military and blob mindlessly, your society will fall apart under the weight of its own bloated state apparatus. You actually have to build a functioning administration and integrate conquered territories. There are a few issues I do have with the game, but the sheer fun makes more than up for it.

I love this game and can't wait for kingdoms version. One thing I have noticed is the computer auto resolve is not that good. If I save before the battle then auto resolve I lose a lot of battles. If imreplay them in FOG2 I win them. It's a nice fall back but man the game really slows down having to manually fight those battles. But it is really fun to do so...single games last for weeks...lol

Definitely a proper view into what is off with gaming at the moment. This game is fantastic, bringing unique concepts to the table that simulate the era in many compelling ways. It is also coded by like one guy and has a very small staff. So yes, it runs at a very clunky pace, which personally I'm not bothered by, but will most definitely cause many a raised eyebrow and quick refund. But the fact is that this game is complete and makes the streamlined AAA 4x game look generic at best and much closer to predatory in their dlc approach. This is an outstanding game, worth your time and money, and Field of Glory: Kingdoms is on the horizon. If you are interested in the era, grab it now. If you are interested in a company that actually puts new ideas on the table and want to step aside from the AAA corporate frenzy, this is a good place to put your time and dollars.

I absolutely enjoyed playing a game intensely (like over 20 hours or so) over a weekend. It showcases the quality of the gaming experience. I had this game for a while and recently decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. The gameplay mechanics are impressive, offering substantial replay value and preventing predictable strategies. The game's randomization keeps it dynamic, creating different scenarios each time. It's fascinating to witness the rise and fall of empires, with numerous countries emerging.

I've played various factions (Athenai, Rhodus, Ptolemaic Egypt and Skythia), each with its distinct mechanics, positions, and units. Battles, though seemingly simple, are influenced by multiple factors like terrain, structures, units, generals, flanking, support, etc. It's interesting that these battles can be exported to Fields of Glory II for manual play if desired.

Très bon jeu de grande stratégie.
Au départ il peut paraître complexe surtout avec un tuto qui en fait ne fait que renvoyer sur YT pour voir des vidéos en anglais.
Un manuel ( énorme ) existe et est maintenant dispo en français.
Perso je ne l'ai pas lu. Les ? sur chaque icône de jeu suffisent pour comprendre.

Ce jeu peut se coupler avec Field of Glory II pour gérer la tactique et les déplacements dans les batailles. Sans FoG II les batailles se font comme dans EU4 par exemple.
FoG II rallonge le temps d'une partie et aussi le tarif payé mais pour moi ça vaut le coup.

Conquête, améliorations des bases ( caserne, agriculture etc la liste est très longue des options disponibles ) , commerce, diplomatie, décadence ou pas de notre civilisation etc ...

Jeu qui se mérite en acceptant de merdouiller au début car l'accès peut rebuter.
Après les premières heures passées à la compréhension des mécanismes ça devient très addictif.

Maintenant à l'époque actuelle du tout tout de suite c'est sûr qu'il n'entre pas dans ce créneau !
Paradox devrait y puiser des idées pour ses jeux de Grand Srategy.

FoG Empires est sorti à la même époque qu'Imperator Rome et ayant joué aux 2 ( même avec la nouvelle mouture d'IR ) y'a pas photo.
Curieux de voir ce que donnera FoG Kingdoms .

En conclusion un jeu pour les fans de Grand Strategy qui aiment la difficulté car l'IA est loin d'être aux fraises .

Deeply torn. On one hand, it's annoyingly low-budget for a grand strategy game, turnbased or not. Paradox, for all their many, many flaws, brings some nice polish and UX and optimization to their games. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure this mechanically blows Imperator out of the water, and I've had to uninstall it again because it's like a live wire into the pleasure center of my brain.

So, to preface: It's clunky. It's slow. It requires too many clicks to end turn and get to the next, and those turns generally take much too long. It has much too few tooltips and context clues for its mechanics, though it **works**.

It focuses on trying to convey the lack of control. It doesn't quite do real time delay on orders (though every turn is about a year so who knows) but there's a good deal of *lack of control* built into it. Each region proposes a project of six categories and you can choose which to build, or spend a turn reshuffling. If you have most of a region, you can form a province at which point resources are pooled and divided; you can have one region focused on food, one specialized on industry, etc etc.

There are *almost 200* buildings that can be proposed, having 3 buildings of a tier and type in a province unlocks the next highest tier (and some can be upgraded) and the type of terrain as well as where it is in the world may provide it special resources that add bonuses or allow certain industries. The continual procession of minor decisions to make the best use out of a given region, its province, your random deal of options, and the vague plans you may have for the future, is so addictive it should be regulated by the FDA.

This is the reason I have done no work for the past two days and have to uninstall it again.

Trade is arcane and vital, difficult to see. Diplomacy is jank and slow, a little deliberately. Combat is hit or miss, but makes an effort to explain army composition and unit features/utility to you. All of this is **functional** but less intuitive and pleasant than it could be. In some cases it feels like a confluence of "we're trying to give you less control over what happens for realism purposes" and "it's a clunky, unpolished system that's hard to use", working together, synergistic, to achieve the same end result. In other cases it feels like it's an ambitious big-brain strategy game made by three guys in a shed, and if they'd just been able to afford a fourth guy to do a UX pass and a fifth guy to do some design feedback, we'd have a real gem here.

It's frustratingly close to excellent. It remains merely good, or perhaps decent. It's an era that deserves more coverage and a game category that deserves more service.

Definitely not perfect, but definitely a thumbs up. I desperately desire that they make a sequel or something with about 2x the budget.

As a child, I spent a days on my carpet with figurines to recreate some of these campaigns. That's a lot of dead-leg.

"Empires" is an empire builder focused around the rise of certain nations in particular time-periods of the Classical world. I bought the companion game F.O.G 2 and enjoyed the various campaigns associated with the Romans. It gives you a flavour of epic turn-based battles with extremely light choices in between.

"Empires" allows you direct control of the social, cultural, economic, Religious and military development of the country you choose. The story-telling is immaculate, with the particular build-trees of the individual settlements being relatively bespoke and leads to local speciality goods or products becoming available. It has a unique infrastructure mechanic that counts as build points. On this level of the game, I felt like a nimble Tribune micromanaging the Governors to create perfect build-chains for certain settlements. War is a numbers and experience game after assigning a skilled General (or tactically explodes from the screen with owning F.O.G 2). Your Empires are ranked with a Legacy system, whereby you gain points for achievements and conquests, and the Decadence system where an Empire can collapse from corruption and debauchery or rise through great acts of culture. Culture is the game and the key seems to be about building things for the public benefit and improving their rights (the rest just falls into place).

I enjoyed the trade system a lot. A sudden gain in figs, from a conquered province, resulted in me having the finances to win the war. Most battles are pushovers if you are skilful, but big battles have to be exported to F.O.G 2 to be fully played out. These games, once coupled, turn the game into a century-long epic movie where you command the best battles. Units gain in experience and, by this time, the whole game made me feel like the ghost of Romulus whispering into Vespasian's ear. Most enjoyable game for a long time.

It's a fully functioning grand strategy as a base game but comes alive with exporting battles to F.O.G 2 (must be bought separately). I admire the coding a lot. There's many niche Q.O.L. investments in this game. It makes sense.

8/10 or 10/10 (playing my own battles).

A unique and wonderful game. The goal of glory through culture production and war is nice, as not only war but also overall progress of the nation is essential for winning.

If one is interested in the time period then I greatly recommend the game.

Armys are well made, there are many unit types and so many unique ones. Different units react differently to enviornments. Battles are interesting, tirednes, wellfednes and health of troops are very important for victory.
Defensebonuses, citywalls and portblocades make for interesting sieges.

The AI is pretty good, my only complaint is that once your own army is very big there is no AI to stop it. Even a bigger nation in the Endgame cant stop a 1000 strength army, in balanced difficulty settings. Only in the third hightest difficulty did I encounter an army stronger than 1000 strength.
I am currently playing on the insane difficulty and loyalty is a huge factor. Loyalty debuffs are huge at this difficulty, I would prefer stronger AI Armys in the middle and Endgame and more aggressive AI over these insane loyalty debuffs. Perhaps I just have too big of a popluation. I would greatly enjoy flexible difficulty settings in the settings where one can change the size of the buffs and debuffs. Then I could set my loyalty debuffs lower but my other debuffs higher.

The Rome AI sets its eyes to much on Gallia and way to little on greece. They first conquered large parts of the greek world. Rome would be more realistic and more likely to win, if they set their eyes that way in most games. Perhaps a mode with more historical accuracy would be interesting.

How the decadence and culture production affects a nation is beautiful, the managing perspective is amazing as quick and endless expasion is not easy. Money and all other ressources work well and diplomacy aswell. Winning with a primitve nation is insanely difficult, culture production is very limited, perhaps to limited. Maybe they should be getting buffs regarding cultural accension.

Decadence should affect the administrative burden, if it already affects it, then I am sorry for my mistake.

That rulers change quicker in turbulent times is great and realistic.

Silvershields are my last complaint. In my game with egypt the game said I could still recruit them, but I could not, once I recuited 2 or 3 others. If there is a limit, then that should be shown in the Unit Queue.

One blogger described this game as less is more, and whilst only 10 hours play that seems to sum it up.
It is a 4x game but with strong push back against run away growth and 2 tactical combat options.
The building side is heavily RNG that can win or lose a game so re-roll often needed. Whilst that can be frustrating, it helps replayablilty and dovetails well with trade.
