One of the BEST turn based strategy games I own, barely topped by other ultra classics like Age Of Magic 3. Only DLC that you should buy on sale is the MAP PACK for a couple bux. Everything else you need can be provided by the WORKSHOP pretty much, and that means LOADS of extra content! Of course you always have the option to get ALL the DLC if you wish, and this can also be a good thing for anyone who is into it. Just all around SUPERBLY well programmed, THE UI IS GOLD, and so is just about everything else about this title! Even the sequel is GOOD (sorceror).

In summary, this game (unmodded) introduces good concepts and has held up pretty well for its age. Overall I give it a thumbs up.

Where it falls down (predictably for any game developer) is in the combination of the numerous systems and the transparency into those systems which should allow the player to make key strategic and tactical decisions, but often does not.

Also, having the player make fewer, more meaningful decisions rather than spamming many almost meaningless ones would, IMO, have made a better game.

Likes include:
dynamic maps (even if sometimes unfair starting positions);
optimal spacing of tiles, settlements, and points of interest;
special map zones (wildlands etc.) creating longer term super-quests / goals;
random events;
excellent hero customisation;
exploring continents is great fun;
overall sense that you are participating in a living and dynamic world where forces great and small are in motion siumultaneously.

Dislikes include:
unclear and undocumented numeric concepts and systems,;
unclear reasons why your faction is weaker than other factions and what to do to advance;
rather dull and sometimes buggy combat;
somewhat incoherent art style, especially 3D strategy mode (ugly compared with paper map mode);
hero picks limited to whenever you get enough glory and to only two heroes at a time;
being multi-attacked in successive combats before you can do anything;
predictable main storylike quests;
somewhat limited monster types;
movement basically works, but can feel clunky and unresponsive, which is odd for a turn-based strategy game.

взагалі гра подобається, хоча і є мінуси, немає української, а російска не повне і корява, то весь текст не влазить, то ще щось... багато підказок просто по одній букві... тому якщо грати то англійською. За повну ціну не купував і правильно зробив. Також є деякі квести де не зрозуміло що треба робити (у сценарії).
Коли у отряді є 2 чи більше герої, то опит зменшується, тому для прокачки героїв краще робити кожному свій отряд де він буде єдиним героєм (це якщо комусь буде цікаво грати, маленька порада)

it may be an older style game and have less over all detail work compared to modern games in the same category. however, it is still a very fun game where you can even create your own faction to have your own, self crafted, hero and units as you go from a drifter to a king or a fallen god to a renewed god depending on how you wish to detail the faction and character.

in all, it is a retro game and if you like looking back through gaming history it is surely an interesting stop in the vast world of older games.

Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes scratches a very specific itch — it's the fantasy 4X/RPG hybrid I didn't know I needed, blending the empire-building of Civilization with the hero progression and tactical battles of Heroes of Might and Magic. The unit customization system alone is worth the price of admission; being able to kit out squads with specific weapons, armor, and abilities from your research tree makes every campaign feel distinct. The early-to-mid game exploration is genuinely exciting — finding new settling sites, stumbling across monster dens you're not ready for yet, and watching your heroes level up — even if the late game tends to devolve into whoever built the biggest unstoppable stack wins. I do have to be honest about the elephant in the room: crashes are a real issue, especially in longer campaigns, and bugs that have been reported for years remain unfixed, which is frustrating for a game that still costs money. If you can grab it on sale and supplement it with community mods (particularly the AI and gameplay overhaul mods), there's a genuinely underrated gem here that no modern game has quite replicated.

This is an incredibly underrated game. It's a Civilization style game with Heroes but the resource management is the MOST INTERESTING thing I've ever seen. In Civilization access to horses gives you infinite horses, in this you gain a horse resource that builds up to be used for cavalry units. This is extra important for heavy armor.

I can see why this game is liked by plenty of people. There are powerful and quite diverse spells there, ability to equip your character and heroes with a lot of stuff, level them in different ways. Exploration is interesting enough and so on.

But the UI and controls are awful. Spell descriptions are sometimes misleading. The game crashes periodically. A lot of stuff depends on RNG in a bad way.

I really wanted to understand this game and to enjoy it. And it is possible that back in the day it was quite enjoyable. But I just do not see a point in spending more time on the game now.

La propuesta es clara: expandirte en un mapa tipo sandbox, gestionar imperio, reclutar héroes, pelear batallas por turnos y decidir si tu reino será una utopía mágica o un basurero medieval con dragones. La primera impresión es “wow, hay mucho por tocar”, y la segunda es “wow, hay mucho por aprender”… y la tercera es “wow, ¿por qué solo hay 16 personas jugando ahora mismo?”. ❌ Enfoque 100% un jugador 🧍: si buscabas presumir tu imperio contra humanos, aquí no es.

Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes es como ese hechizo poderoso que funciona… pero tiene letra chiquita. Si te gusta la estrategia por turnos con construcción de ciudades, exploración y combates tácticos, aquí hay un festín. No es “casual”, no es “rápido” y no te va a llevar de la mano: te va a soltar en un mundo de fantasía y te dirá “arréglatelas, futuro tirano”.

Ahora, lo controversial: con solo 16 jugadores activos, se nota que no está en el centro de la conversación moderna, pero las 1635 recomendaciones totales dicen que el juego ya se ganó su lugar entre quienes sí disfrutan sufrir… de la manera correcta. Es un título para gente que ama optimizar, planear y volver a empezar porque “esta vez sí me sale perfecto” (no, no te sale).

Game save option does not work. i lost all of my progress because it gave me Fatal error i thought i had it saved and then i load up game and there is nothing ! FIX IT

i have done almost everything everyone is recommending. Run as administrator, Gave permissions to file, disabled steam cloud and many more that i can not speak it will take forever to explain but this just does not fix the game there is something seriously wrong with the game its not because of my PC and stardock support does not care about it i tried contacting them on Discord channel i posted on every channels thhat i need help 0 responce.

On paper Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes has a lot of promise: it's Civilization style 4x (resources and diplomacy) together with Heroes of Might and Magic's RPG style heroes with levels, spells and equipments and army based tactical battles. But in all these areas FE:LH fails to meet the these games' standards. The diplomacy options are very lacking, and the untis and battles are fairly janky. There is a unit editor which is a nice touch, but other than that the game is definitely dated, missing out on a lot of QoL improvements Civ V and HoMM4 brought to their respective series'. I also encountered a lot of bugs in the 20 hours - I've had visual bugs, 2 soft locks requiring reload and 3 full-on crashes. Someone mentioned this is because it's a 12 year old game not optimised for Windows 11; fair enough - but for that reason I cannot really recommend this game. I will give sequels a go; but this version of the game has too much jank.

A decent entry in the "MoMlike" genre - that is, games which are descendants of Master of Magic. It has a stronger focus on the RPG elements then most, and a little bit of Heroes of Might and Magic mixed in, for flavor.

However I do find that it plays a little slowly compared to some of its contemporaries, which is saying something as MoM was already damnably slow especially in its early turns. I personally prefer something with a little more "oomph" like Age of Wonders or Warlock over this, which is much more sedate in comparison. Still, it's pretty good.

It also has one of the most unexpectedly terrifying sounds I've ever heard in a video game. When you cast the courage spell - which is a buffing spell under the life school, mind you - it goes EEEEEEEEYARIYARIYARIYARI

You should probably skip this version for the updated rerelease, Elemental Reforged, although as of the time of writing this one still has some unique things missing from that version, such as the undead faction. But I have no doubt that in time once that version receives more content and updates this version will eventually become totally obsolete.

Игра моего детсва начиная с первой части когда мой папа покупал игру в 2008 году в дисках игра легендарная купил все части все дополнения длс и новую часть которая вышла 23 октября ещё не играл конечно в неё но обязательно поиграю как пройду эту игру однозначно да рекомендую !
(и да в этой игре нету русской озвучки но это не беда скачать русификатор так что в перёд гамать игру ПАРНИ я играю сейчас за Умбра создал свою целевизацию личную коплю всегда на знания потом уже на военную промышленность круто ещё раз говорю бомба!!!!!!)

This is a rather good game... lots of things to see and do. Kind of reminds me a bit of HoMM, Age of Wonders, Civilization, etc. It's foremost a 4X game with a dash of city building and customization, a research tree, and hero maintenance. It's old school Strategy RPG and I'm having a lot of fun with it. The only bummer were the pricey DLCs, expanding the game with just enough to whet my appetite. Luckily, they are now bundled together at a reasonable price. People who don't like this game are probably youngsters who might be just a tad bit too impatient or not wowed enough by what they might deem as lackluster graphics. It looks great enough for an old-timer like me!

Graphics are meh, especially the hero faces look like the first Tomb Raider era graphics, but that isn't too important. What is important is that you canot play it for much as there are crashes very frequently.

The tactical battles are ok, the research and city building too. The game is a bit Civilization meets Age of Wonders, but unplayable due to crashes. Maybe the upcoming Reforged version will be better as the basis is there, it just needs stability.

So, for everyone who have lags and crashes.
First thing, delete or rename SDNXLFonts.dll in the main directory of the game, it's antialising fonts and breaks a lot, most of crashes are related to it.

I also play on linux, I use Proton Experimental, and seen many people advice to use older proton, like 3 or 8 versions.
And put PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% in the launch options, for me works even without it, but adviceable.

So far I play on 2k display with best graphics and have no issues or crashes so far, and I use a very big mod list.
Game itself is absolutely awesome, I love it. Played their mod in civ4, this game is mostly better in most things, a lot to unpack.

This game is almost fun. I enjoyed the game play but the UI is just too annoying to deal with. Half the time I can't tell what I'm doing? In the "build" screen there are 2 buttons "build" and "done", both buttons begin building whatever is selected. There is no exit button, you must hit escape to exit. In combat, there is no real explanation? What is Stamina? How do you acquire Stamina to use skills? I don't want to play a game where I need a wiki page up on a second computer, just to play. Add some tool tips for gods sake.

Играл в эту игру давно, и если вы её не застали, пропустили и всё такое- то она стоит вашего внимания и в 2025-м. Постарела довольно неплохо, всё таки для стратегий графоний не самое нужное дело. А вот по механикам, тут всё ок. Намешано много, но со вкусом.

p.s.
В общем я бы эту игру взял бы в коллекцию уже давно, но издатель как-то уж слишком жадничал с ценой. Игре больше 10 лет, а скидки смешные, и вот впервые за пару лет они для фестиваля 4Х стретегий цену снизили до более-менее адекватных 5 баксов)
Я уверен, что эта их маркетинговая и ценовая политика вообще ни разу не правильная. Все их серии страдают оверпрайсом и все они 10 летней давности. Многие брали их игры ещё на дисках, и возможно добавили бы в коллекцию тут, даже потом ни разу не поиграв, но с их ценником- игру купят только те, кто вот точно будет играть, а учитывая нишевость всего, что они разрабатывали- таких очень мало. Ну серьёзно, это ж как надо загореться чтобы купить Galactic Civilizations III Ultimate Edition или Offworld Trading Company - Ultimate Edition по ценам современных проектов? А наборы, в которые потом можно докупить недостающее их хитрожопые маркетологи не дают, или сразу бери Ультимат со всеми ДЛЦ, что как бы и надо с играми 10 летней давности, или купи базу, и потом ещё дороже докупай ДЛЦ по ценам, как во время их выхода 10 лет назад... Ё...тые! Самое разумное было бы влепить тут им минус в карму за такую дурь, но реально игру жалко, именно эта игра слишком уж была колоритная, баговатая, но душевная местами. Я думаю при желании вы её всегда можете найти где поиграть и не покупая ;)

p.p.s. Ах, да, они выпустили в ранний доступ некий ремастер всей трилогии игр из этой серии- Elemental: Reforged. По цене новых игр типа Эндлесс Легенд 2 или шикарного Спеллфорса Эо! Изменений минимум, текстурки ИИ улучшил... кароче развод на бабки.
Поставил минус в карму им и там и тут!

Ну что вам сказать. Stardocks - легендарная компания, которая умеет делать игры, но не умеет их доделывать. И это очередной пример такой "недоделанной" игры. Вроде всё хорошо - есть разные расы, есть кастомизация, есть ещё куча всего, а по факту - баги, вылеты, тормоза и агрессивный ИИ с кучей мусора, которая однако выносит всё и вся на автобое (и выносится соло магом огня, если драться самому). Я честно пытался в это играть. Даже выиграл один раз. Но повторять этот опыт я, скорее всего, не буду.

The gameplay itself is fun - shame it's unstable as hell, crashes often, and is full of game-breaking bugs that cause the game to lock up.
To make matters worse, whenever this game encounters a fatal error (which is every 10 hours or so), it causes almost all of the other applications running on my computer to crash as well - which is super annoying if you're the kind of gamer who likes to listen to streams or podcasts in the background while you game.
Honestly it's shocking that the base price is still $25 despite being a 12-year-old game that's THIS poorly optimized.

Still, if you have the patience to sit through all of the crashes, Fallen Enchantress does offer some pretty unique customization mechanics for heroes, units, and even cities that drastically affect gameplay and make it highly addictive if you're into min-maxing stuff.

Otherwise, I've got some other recommendations below (although if you've managed to find this game, chances are pretty good you already know about of them)

If you're looking for a good modern high fantasy 4x game, I strongly recommend trying Age of Wonders 4 instead - or if you're looking for an older title to run on a low-spec PC, get Warlock: Master of the Arcane.
Seriously, Warlock is a full year older than Fallen Enchantress and is WAY better optimized with much higher production values despite being the same price and having similar system requirements.
There's also a Warlock 2, but most players agree that the first game was better.

If you're specifically looking for a 4x game that lets you make fully customizable franken-units like Fallen Enchantress does, give Age of Wonders: Planetfall or Endless Legend a spin :D

Ein echt gutes 4X-Rundenstrategiespiel in einem Phantasiesetting. Allerdings muss ich auch sagen, dass ich nach 93 Stunden für einen Durchlauf, keine Lust auf einen zweiten hatte. Und ich habe nicht alle Mechaniken wirklich verstanden. Insbesondere dass mit der weiteren Ebene hatte ich nie wirklich kapiert.

I need to play more but first impression is it's Civilization on steroids. The are "quests" and a welcome tutorial.
A lot of civ's mechanics are at work but they've added "monsters." I really hope the monsters didn't kill all the roaming barbarians but I suspect they did.

If this game is available for cheap, and you like strategy, get it. It has a tutorial which mostly helps and is how I know it's a Civ successor.

But the crashing especially after many hours played its like the issues mount up and it leads to more and more crashing and error messages

other things that bother me you could be working out what to build in your town you click one thing it then takes you to research then to level up then combat this i don,t like let me finish the build list then go to the next thing let me confirm im done -
to add on this in options you can stop it autoing the turns that helps with this but on the flip side every turn you have to check the citys build queue each time then push finish turn

Love this game, warts and all. I've owned it for years and have gone back to it again and again. The map randomization and the varied exploration are unmatched by any other 4X game. It has its quirks and occasionally crashes, but if you love fantasy 4X games, putting up with the quirks is worth it.

Master of Magic mit Anime Einfluss
Riesige Karten mit sehr unterschiedlichen Völkern, mächtigen Monstern und starker Magie unter Kontrolle bringen. Dabei in einem eher düsteren Setting sowohl auf der Weltkarte als auch auf dem extra Kampfbildschirm rundenbasiert vorgehen und mächtige Helden RPG mäsig weiterentwickeln und mit mächtigen Artefakten ausrüsten. Städte entwickeln und spezialisieren auf Miltärfestung, Handelszentrum oder Magiestadt und Neutrale Orte erkunden und teilweise auch besetzen. Kurzum bietet dieses Spiel hunderte Stunden sehr soliden Taktik/RPG Spaß und einem mitgelieferten Karteneditor. Wer alte Gaming Perlen kennt wird sich schnell wohlfühlen und dennoch mit der Zeit noch mehr entdecken und sich dann noch wohler fühlen. Gelegenheitspieler werden eher weniger Spaß haben da der Zugang schon etwas dauert.
Ich bin selbst nach über 600h Spielzeit immernoch mit viel Spaß am Zocken.

Crashes frequently. Crashes on startup. I rarely review; but since this game is unplayable, it's worth the warning to any future purchaser. There are old posts on how to fix it, but all seem to be temporary fixes as the next round of loading a game starts the crashes all over again. Frankly, not worth it. Find a game that works instead. Too bad; because otherwise, a good game.

8/10 - My first 4X strategy game and great introduction to the genre. For a genre that generally seems intimidating Fallen Enchantress does a great job at teaching the player how to doggy paddle so to speak. Art feel a little outdated (because it is), soundtrack is pleasant but nothing to write home about, where FE shines is in it versatility, faction creation and simplistic game play. Would highly recommend as a introductory to the genre.

Simply the greatest 4x game ever made.

Anything that "betters" this will upgrade it only in terms of technological capabilities. No 4x before or since Fallen Enchantress has ever been so ambitious, and done so well.

AOW4 is the closest we've got, but everything AOW4 has, FE already had, and then some.
