Honestly, this game is a little bit of fun, but the graphics are... odd to say the least, the factions are okay, but there are lots of little things that combine to become a large problem. Units seem to move a bit slowly across the map, its not always clear what each does, and after you tell a Villager to build several things, you have to manually click the X in order to de-select the build menu instead of being able to hit the X like any other RTS game. Also for some reason when you have a Priest pick up a Relic, you have to wait till he gets it, then issue another order to him so he walks it back to the Temple, which means you basically have to babysit the Priests. All of this combines to poor optimization. All things considered the only thing I think this game is good for, especially now after I've heard the Devs have abandoned the game, is for those who are achievement hunters. Otherwise there are tons of better RTS games that do the same thing, but with much better and more pleasing aesthetics and graphics. It is unfortunate.

Ce jeu avait pour moi un immense potentiel, des graphismes attirants, capable de tournée même sur des ordinateur LOW... Et en plus un concept qui reprenais bien les Ages of Empires qui étaient d'excellent jeux, je parles des originaux, pas des remastérisée à la noix.

Mais c'est un jeux qui au début semble simple à comprendre, pourtant rien que pour changer d'âge j'ai du demandé au développeurs, comment on fait (autant dire que les guides du jeu sont déjà inexistant) réponse, désolé on fonctionne pas comme ça, donc il n'y a pas moyen... ????
... ah et pourquoi alors on me demande de passer à l'age 2, comment on fait purée??

Voilà, bref le développement du jeu pour moi est resté risible et une pale tentative de copie des Age of, qui restent à un niveau extrêmement pitoyable, et surtout impossible d'apprendre ce jeu en autodidacte, dans combien de jeux de ce genre suis je aller chercher un guide? 0 sauf celui là et en plus les réponses n'y sont pas, et leur dev sont pas foutus de répondre non plus. Et ce en anglais comme en français

Donc bon, achetez les vrais jeux et jamais les copie, c'est comme minecraft et toutes les copie pourries qui sont sorties après, rien ne vaut l'original.

Having played every Age of Empires game, including my favorite which was Age of Empires Online, I can say that Empires Apart has great potential, but lacks popularity which is detrimental to the game's growth in the long run. The graphics are simple, yet elegant and the gameplay can range from slow, turtle-like strategies to fast-paced assaults on the enemy base.

The new loot box system might seem a little confusing at first, but it functions exactly like Age of Empires Online's loot system worked; Any items gained from loot boxes, which you can earn by playing and leveling up, are cosmetic and can be applied to customize the look of your favorite civilizations. You want Byzantine spearmen to have a massive axe? Can do!

The sound design is good overall, but it sadly lacks anything that really knocks the game out of the park. The old games, namely Age of Mythology, had very memorable soundtracks which, despite them being almost or even more than a decade old, I can still fully remember because they were so catchy and well-designed. Whilst the sounds and music of Empires Apart are not lacking in quality, they are not something that will endlessly stick by you. A neat point, however, is that every civilization speaks their native tongue properly as far as I personally can tell.

Interface and hotkeys are a hot topic for debate on this game, and I have to agree with the critics on this one. Most if not all of us are used to the standard interface, GUI and hotkeys that the Age of Empires series, Starcraft and other RTS games use, so it might be prudent to follow the set formula in this regard and streamline it a little bit in line with what the critics say. I personally am not a keyboard warrior so I don't often use hotkeys or other macro's, I just like to take it easy and take everything in at my own pace, but that is just my experience.

Gameplay wise, the game works exactly as intended. Each civ has their strong and weak points, and the best part is that unlike Age of Empires 2, where every civilization had a shared tech tree, only with some unique techs of their own, in Empires Apart every civilization has their own unique playstyle to an extent. The Mongols, for example. play completely different from the Byzantines, and it offers a very unique experience. The AI, however, can sometimes be somewhat buggy, such as prioritizing the wrong targets, ignoring player troops that massacre theirs whilst their cavalry chase down villagers into a fortified base, et cetera. These bugs are not extremely obvious, but they should nonetheless be addressed. Finally, the greatest point of contention for me is that formations don't always work well and units can get stuck in places until you manually move them out of the chokepoint they are stuck in. Nonetheless, this game is very entertaining and great to look at.

Some nitpicks of mine that I had:

-The day/night cycle can be very abrupt, and it is somewhat disorienting to suddenly have to work in the dark. My suggestion is to make this transition somewhat smoother to ease the contrast between day and night.

-No map editor. I realise from conversations on the forums here and around the game's pages that the devs are still hard at work and it is relatively difficult to introduce such grand new features, but I think it's vital that a map editor/scenario creator be implemented to let the community design it's own maps, scenarios and possibly campaigns.

-No campaigns or scenarios. As mentioned in my last point, one of the greatest joys of the Age of Empires series was that they offered scenarios and campaigns that told the stories of famous events in history, with you as the player re-enacting them. These singleplayer experiences really enriched the game and made it much more fun to play alone when you didn't play online. I'm looking forward to maybe playing something akin to that in this game somewhere in the future.

-The biggest problem with the game, as mentioned at the very start of this review, is that the playerbase is small compared to other games. Empires Apart may be considered an in-development game, but if the game wants to grow, there needs to be made more publicity to get people interested in the game and convince them to play.

To sum the entire thing up with a bow on top, I'd say Empires Apart is not Age of Empires. The two are very much alike, yet different in many ways and Empires Apart has the potential to offer some fine and unique experiences, provided the devs keep working and doing their best on improving the game. Considering the game isn't made by some huge developer, I'm confident in saying that the quality of the game in relation to the resources used for making it is really good. I definitely recommend playing this, especially now that the game is essentially free to play.

Last but not least, as a message directly to the developers: Loot boxes have left a sour taste in the mouths of many gamers. I understand that the system you're using is purely for cosmetics and not actually any tangible advantages in-game, but you might want to try to rebrand the whole thing.

Really funny game.
The various civilizations are well balanced and characterized. It is possible to chose one civilization rather than another based on your style of play and the decision really changes the gameplay.
I find the graphics very nice and single/multiplayer configurations are good enough to customize the games.

Partiamo subito con la pillola amara: Empires Apart è semplicemente un buon gioco. Buono, ma anonimo.

In generale, trovo che il genere degli RTS stia decisamente invecchiando, e allontanarsi troppo dagli standard delle pietre miliari implica la riuscita di mischioni improponibili (di fatto, col tempo mi sono affezionato ad altri generi di videogames).

Ironicamente, ciò che divide gli RTS anonimi da quelli che rigiocheresti ad oltranza è, oltre appunto alla bontà del prodotto, tutta una serie di elementi apparentemente secondari che ti fanno affezionare al gioco. Anche una oramai sottovalutatissima campagna single player è più che sufficiente per creare coinvolgimento: Blizzard con il suo Warcraft 3 è l' esempio primevo di ciò; (segue a ruota Age of Mythology). Per non parlare di colonne musicali da oscar (E anche se quelle di un Age of Empires sono azzecatissime nella loro semplicità, il primo della classe in materia è e resterà Total Annihilation), e tutta una serie di "tocchi di classe" che danno pathos ed immersione ad ogni partita (La totale distruttibilità degli ambienti urbani di "codename Panzers" o il fatto di combattere ad una certa su distese di carcasse fumanti in "Supreme Commander".

Empires Apart è purtroppo privo di tutti questi elementi che non farebbero che valorizzarlo perché, pur trovandolo apprezzabilissimo sia ludicamente (complici alcuni aiuti tattici intelligenti, come la utilissima possibilità di selezionare SOLO le unità ferite) che graficamente (Oramai ho un debole per lo stile squadrato, sopratutto quello di Empires Apart mi ha ricordato il primissimo Virtual Fighter), ad un certo punto non ho resistito al tornare a giocare ad Age of Empires 2.

The game plays very smoothly, I love the civilisations, the units and the graphics style. So far, I have not encountered any crashes. To me, the only downsides are the small player base and the less than steller AI.
Great game, would recommend it!

Update: The AI has been greatly improved and the playerbase is extended because it became free to play. Would recommend it even more.

Before you buy (and look at the Mixed Review rating!):

Empires Apart is probably the most fun RTS game that I have found in the steam store when browsing for a game that can check off all the boxes for me! But it does have it's issues that I will get to later.

I always buy new RTS games and then end up never playing them again after 20 minutes or never even playing at all, but Empires Apart has SO much character, potential, and simple unique touches, that it makes me want to keep playing EVEN in it's current buggy state.

It is simple, yet fun, much like, in my opinion, Age of Empires 3 and Stronghold Crusader. Meanwhile, most other RTS games, remind me more of Age of Empires 2 and Stronghold Crusader 2. In the latter, you have way too many complexities added which make the game hard to get into and if you step away for to long you hesitate to start up again, while in the former, you have a game that's very easy to pick up whenever you feel like it, easy to understand, and easy to master.

So with that said Empires Apart is an RTS that is so easy to pick up and play. Its a game that makes you want to keep playing for hours and hours. It's art is unique, it's civilizations are great (can't wait for additions!), and the building/unit options are very interesting.

HOWEVER, I keep hoping that every patch (great job by the developers by the way, they are working hard to fix the issues they have) it will fix the FATAL ERROR crash that makes you instantly have to close the game. This is unfortunate as you never know when it's going to hit. Could be 10 minutes in, could be 45 minutes in. **With the most recent update, I was finally able to play a FULL game without a crash :)** It just plain sucks to have this crash, as it makes it unplayable. I always want to launch the game but then I don't because I know I won't get anywhere. BUT most games I don't even want to launch even when they are fully bug-free, so very big thank you to the developers for making such a captivating game, even in its current state!

PROS
- The graphics (some disagree, but I think it fits)
- The sound effects and the music are very nice!
- Unique, small differences between some units is very cool.
- Cool Civilization and Hero concept.

CONS
- FATAL ERROR bug.
- No campaign.

I won't give up on Empires Apart, neither will the developers. I suggest that you don't either!

Buy the game on sale if you have your doubts, but even so, when this game becomes bug-free, it will have a great friendly and strong community behind it. Mark my words :)

The game is broke, The screen is always green and it crashes about 30 mins into every match I play, it's not worth a penny until this is fixed because it's not fun when you have to save every 30 seconds in fear of crashing and then getting stuck in green screen without a way out

Hello there! As a brief introduction, I'm a HUGE fan of RTS. I've played a lot of them during my lifetime (Age of Empires, Starcraft, Empire Earth, Command and Conquer, Homeworld, etc.) - I can write paragraphs of lots of info and opinions here and there, but I'll attempt to structure somehow via pros and cons (and "neutral"). Oh, and I'm also just a casual RTS player, I don't do much multiplayer on any of those and just like to chill and do AI stomping (I've done a bit of competitive in the past, but it got way too stressful for me lol)

PROS:
+ Solid gameplay: Not gonna lie, most of it is from Age of Empires 2, but there are new things that are introduced here though (such as the more simplified upgrade into tiers and hero units). And yes, I'm aware that some people see this as unoriginal and "copying", but you know what they say, you don't fix something that ain't broke. They're taking Age of Empires 2 core stuff and improving upon it. We don't have to reinvent the wheel each time. The civilizations and core gameplay of each of them are similar, but they have enough individual characteristics, that they don't feel like you're playing the same game over and over (what with different heroes to choose from, civilization passives/active abilities, and difference in gameplay and techtrees)

+ Visuals: Okay, I know that in terms of pure gaming experience, visuals isn't absolutely essential in terms of gameplay and mechanics, but it IS an important factor. While the aesthetics of it being polygon-y is surely a matter of taste (I like it to be honest), it's cool to be able to enjoy a good strategy game while enjoying the scene. I like how the civilizations are presented visually, while not entirely new, they definitely feel very different from each other.

+ Music: I'm not like a musical guru or anything like that, but man the music in this game is awesome. From the menu music all the way to the music in the game itself (general or civ-based themes are so good to listen to while you do your own thing! :D)

CONS:
- Incomplete Game: Now I haven't followed everything that the devs are doing or whatnot, and when I purchased this game, it didn't indicate that it is "Early Access" or anything - but regardless of the reasoning (intentional or not, time constraints or not), the game feels incomplete. First of all, there's no campaign. Secondly, even the repetitive content in the game doesn't seem to give you an awful load of options (not a lot of maps to choose from, etc.). But it seems that the devs are quite active and might release some huge updates or even DLCs, but as of now... you have the core game that RTS player wants (which is good), but not a lot of other stuff (which, most other players want, RTS fans or just casuals - which is bad).

- Replayability: Competitive games and RTS can be inherently replayable depending on your interest in it, since it's the kind of game you want to get better at and keep on playing and playing, but... as I've said before, there's no campaign and it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot else to do, so that in turn makes the game less interesting (what holds you back to this game?), thus the replayability suffers.

- Pricetag: Now okay, pricing and "what's worth to you" is mostly subjective and depends on the person buying. But we live in a day and age where there are games out there of amazing quality that costs much less (or even free sometimes). And while that might seem an unfair thing to say, it is relevant here, because the pricetag seems to be way too steep for what the game currently offers (as of this review).

NEUTRAL:
- Copy-paste Game: As I've mentioned above, it's no secret that this game is VERY similar to Age of Empires 2. While I've stated that for me it's a good thing, it might not be to some. Honestly I don't mind that they took something amazing and improved upon it (both mechanically and visually) - but to some people it might not be worth a whole new game. I've put it here again as neutral, just because it really depends on you if this is something important to you or not.

CONCLUSION:
I am still putting this game as recommended, because if you're a fan of RTS and have some money to spare or a casual, this might be a good game to look into if you like the RTS genre. Why do I say this? Well, as I've said above, it is VERY similar to Age of Empires 2 yes, but it's an "updated" one, so visually it's better and the mechanics are also better (my opinion - this isn't fact, lower the pitchforks).
BUT, the pricetag and the lack of content (other than the core RTS skirmish mode) is off-putting - I sincerely hope that they somehow lower the pricetag and/or release contents on this game rather soon - otherwise people might start jumping off ship. Which would be unfortunate, because this game has the potential to be something amazing.

This game plays a lot like the Age of Empires series, especially Age of Empires 2. This has been discussed heavily so I won’t get into it any further.

The graphic style is really 50/50, half of us love it and half of us hate it. I think it’s cool, just that it has been done too much lately across games of all genres.

Gameplay is pretty smooth.

More civilizations are always welcome.

The game definitely needs more polishing but as of right now it’s solid enough.

Well, this game looked cool, and it's mostly good in concept, but terrible, terrible execution. Total, buggy failure. Tried to play multiplayer several times and the game lost sync every single time. Not only that, but there is some terrible, awful, unacceptable lag between issuing commands to units and seeing them carried out--when they even do what you tell them to. Pretty game, would've been nice if it actually worked. Granted, this occurs mostly in multiplayer, but still unacceptable.

This may sound like a Positive review, but bear with me.

Empires Apart attempts to relight the fire of the RTS genre. It has everything you know and love, rescource management, military formations and Zerg rushes.
This game is great for the new wave of RTS fans, for those that could not start with AOE2 due to its age. If you are like myself and have been around to play them, it feels like a reskin of that very game.
If this game was early access, I would forgive the level of ambition this shows. If the game gets regular updates and a few more factions i would happily change my opinion.

This sadly does not bring anything new to the RTS like it was suggested at Alpha, it is a pretty game. But feels like a very casual game.

TL;DR
Do you like Age of Empires? Do you like Empire Earth?
Then play those.

Good: for the newbie
Bad: for the veteran
Ugly: this game is not

Prende molto esempio da Age of Empires e da Age of mythology.

因为迷即时战略游戏，在看到这个有趣，又富含多元历史文化背景的RTS的时候就立马入手了。虽然多单位操作的时候，特别是微操的时候，游戏经常反应比较迟钝，编队下的反应也相当一般。但是还是很有冲动要给好评。
但是，最近一次打开游戏的小型战争界面，发现整个屏幕都被强烈的地图内的太阳光照着，根本看不到基地。本来以为操作单位到地图其他位置，就没有这个问题。结果这个强烈的光源始终在屏幕中间！这简直不能忍啊！根本无法继续游戏！
觉得是不是我电脑问题的思考下，我重新下载了游戏，发现情况还是如旧
一怒之下过来写个差评
虽然是独立游戏，bug什么的都能忍，但是这种让游戏完全无法继续的错误，实在是不能忍，希望工作室能够尽快恢复

Honestly I can't reccomend this game to anyone. They hit all of my nostalgia buttons with the civilizations and how they play, but the game is just completely unplayable with how poor its performance is. I have given it several months before I wrote this review because I wanted the game to improve and do well, but even after several performance patches the game is still so laggy that its unplayable.

Credit is given where credit is due. It looks like quite a bit of effort it put into the game, but when you put effort into something you have to make sure its even worth your while. You can have 300 unit pop caps with over 5 people when you give your servers no ram to run off of. Played this game with my friends and we build up, make massive armies, and the second we engage the server crashes. Another thing is why are the chinese so bad. If they have gunpowder give them genuinely good guns. Why are boats even in the game? they are completely useless in combat. Could be a good game but its like a michealangelo just did half of a statue and said ♥♥♥♥ this im done i cant be bothered

Quick verstion:

Fast paced AoE like RTS with more competitive playability.
Not quite finished but devs are active and i have my hopes up.

New Review of the Free to Play version:

First of all im almost satisfied that i dont get totally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for buying this game in the first place, even tho i got plents of the DLC civs (already existing before), i am missing one, which i dont like that much since i still have a feeling i paid enough already, but its OK.

The gameplay so far is pretty nice, the costumisations they added also make it a little more fun, all this stuff they put in all new games was added, but its not changing the gameplay.

Gameplay is really fun and they made a few tweaks to aoe2 i like, even tho pathfinding and movement bugs are still far too common but im in good believe this will be fixed at some point.

To multiplayer:
Since there arent really enough players yet you will get ranked against people of a different skill level a lot, tho the speed of the gameplay makes up for it bc you dont build for 10 minutes until you realise that your opponent isnt even building gathering camps.
So unfair games are fast over and dealt with, which is much less frustrating for both players.

Not so sure about the balancing yet, but still its aight so far since i know the elo of people defeating me in the 2k+ (diamond) range which is the same thing in AoE2, but slower and more painful. Here he just arrived after 2-3 Mins and if your not prepared its over fast.

So atm im putting my hope and gametime in the game and try to spread it among my friends.
Will also stay in touch with the devs so final bugs can be fixed.

Hoping for a well made competitive fast paced AoE2 like RTS with more players in the future a lot!

Good Game, slightly overpriced.

The Devs still working hard on the project and its getting a really good game slowly, though the bad reviews and high price make it really hard for it to get popular, which is a real problem for a multiplayer based game.

Maybe after first big sale, there will be enough players and enough is fixed the game may start rolin or otherwise i see a soon to be dead game here.

A highly fun, fast paced RTS game.

As a person with over 2000 hours in AoE2 over various platforms, Empires Apart really catches that same feeling I get playing AoE2.

It has a beautiful soundtrack, the 6 civs are each unique and offer different styles of play, the challenges for single player are interesting and above all the multiplayer is competitive and compelling.

The low poly art style might be highly divisive, but personally I enjoy it. As a competitive player visual clarity is super important and the buildings are great in this aspect, not to mention the UI is very clean and having the majority of the screen free is a very nice result. While the units are a little more difficult to distiunguish immediately - that's probably just me not playing the game enough yet to learn them!

There is currently no campaign, although the devs have said they would add one in future. Skirmish mode is nice, there have been patches improving the AI - it's already pretty good - and I hope it will improve further. The developers are incredibly active, more than I have ever seen for any other game, so I have high hopes for the future.

I'd rate this game as it is currently 08/04/2018:
8.5/10 for multiplayer
6/10 for single player (will greatly go up with a campaign)

I would highly recommend this game for those who enjoy multiplayer in RTS style games.

Au début j'étais sceptique au vu des évaluations variables. Je savais que le jeu étais majoritairement multijoueur donc je n'ai pas été déçue du manque de campagne. J'ai été agréablement surpris par les graphismes, les civilisations totalement différentes, chacunes a ses avantages, ses inconvénients, ses unités propres et ses technologies avec un gameplay riche qui rappel celui d'AOE2 en plus dévellopé. Les unités ont des compétences spéciales pour certaines, cela donne de belle microgestion et de très beau mouvement sur le champ de batailles (je pense surtout aux paladin francs)

Mais d'un autre coté les menus et la création de parties sont vraiment mal travailler. on pourrait critiquer aussi le manque de map, mais je pense que les dévellopeurs en apporteront ainsi que des nouvelles civilisations.

Cependant en toute honnêté c'est un très bon rts multijoueur, et sa richesse de gameplay et la diversité qu'offre les civilisations effacent la plupart des petits défauts de ce jeu.

c'est un bon investissement

I really wanted to give this game a positive review. Even made a big thread on the Forum what to fix as fast as possible. This game is 100 percent an early access game. Not more, not less.

The basegame looks fine. Different Civs that all play a little bit different and the graphic is something different. I like it.

But the game lacks in content: No campaign nothing.

If you want to play against KI....well the KI is beyond stupid. Worse than in Age of Empires Definitve Edition (look it up on youtube).

So the only thing you can do is multiplayer but it crashes, is laggy as hell despite having high end PC's.
The 6 Civs are unbalanced as hell. Pathfinding is Alpha status etc etc.

In short:

-6 Civs

-graphic is nice

negative:

pathfinding
AI
horrible perfomance unplayable 3v3 or 4v4
crashes every second game
lack on content (no campaign nothing)

This game might be good in 6 months but they do sell it as a full game so I have to make a negative here.

We don't see competitive-multiplayer focused Age of Empires-like games often.
This one, gives you solid mechanics, fun gameplay, good artstyle, unique civilizations and build diversity. Sure, game is not polished but it's very playable and getting good support from devs.
If you want to compare it to first times of AoE 2 HD and AoE Online, Empires Apart is 100 times better.

"Single player only" players wouldn't find much content here, I can't recommend the game for them. Competitive-RTS lovers must definitely give it a try.

Edit: Multiplayer is dead, there is not a single chance to revive it, DON'T BUY.

- Tiers de clasificacion y JcJ excelente.
Contras:
- Las unidades no tienen esos sonidos tan buenos y apasionados que poseia el AoE II HD.
- Faltan Civilizaciones iconicas del periodo VIkingos o Normandos, Ingleses, Españoles, Hindues, Persas o Japoneses.
- Quizas es demasiado 2 heroes a elegir, uno opcion basta.
- IA y Pathfinding de 1 a 10=4.
- Falta Opcion: Patrullar
- No se puede elegir color como en el AoE 2 HD

It has been a long time since there was a RTS game this great...

Playing some matches and watching some vods of the top players, it has a lot of potential on the micro/macro aspects.
Also the design of the civilizations makes each one very pleasant to watch/play and try out.

The focus of the game is on the multiplayer side, so not much on the singleplayer, but it's very possible and only a matter of time... Game still has some bugs/problems but the team are fixing them and making patches as fast as they can.

If you like the RTS genre it's definitely worth trying this game out. Remember to join the discord :D

Gemessen an dem, was das Spiel vor der Early Access Phase suggeriert hat, macht es erstaunlich wenig Spaß. Das liegt im Wesentlichen an recht häufigen Abstürzen des Spiels, an der unterirdischen KI (auch wenn der Fokus auf MP liegt, erwartet man zumindest eine KI die überhaupt funktioniert) sowie auch an einer teilweise hakeliger UI-Steuerung. Inzwischen hat sich auch noch die Tatsache dazugesellt, dass mein AV-Programm die Anwendung, auf Grund ihres Verhaltens in die Virus-Quarantäne verschiebt. Das hatte ich bisher noch nie bei einem Spiel, in dieser Preisklasse, auch bei keinem Early Access Titel.
Da die EA-Phase erst kürzlich begonnen hat, würde ich dem Spiel aber noch einmal eine Chance geben. Aber dazu ist wohl noch viel Arbeit seitens der Entwickler nötig...

Reviewing this game after playing only 1v1 multiplayer.

Pros:

- Unique civilizations

- Fast paced RTS

- Multiplayer scene active with ladder and matchmaking

Cons:

- Host advantage: This is my biggest complaint. When a ranked game starts, one of the players will be the host of the game.
This makes the non-host have higher input lag. Basically you play from the start in disadvantage. Other problem with
this is that you can see in the ranked lobby who is the host, which makes it possible to leave the lobby and not lose any ladder points. Also speaking of lobby, it could be a lot faster to get into a game by not adding aditional time for a player to choose a civ after a game is found. This choice should be made before queueing imo.

- You cant rally villagers to sheep/deer etc.

- No water maps on ladder (depite the civs having docks and boats).

Definitely worth trying since its f2p. Still has some problems but its a game made by 3 devs. Any problem with the game join their discord since the devs are quite active there.

之前更新了1.1.4，试了两把，AI的问题明显改善了。不过这样一来优化的问题就有点凸显出来，人多的时候FPS降低了很多。1v1可能还好，但是刚刚试的一局2v2，打到20多分钟，双方几百人口大战正激烈的时候闪退了。严重影响游戏体验啊

玩了3小时过来写个评价。先写结论：虽然问题不少，但是值得期待。
优化算是个问题，画面默认超高、风扇转的呼呼的，FPS也有波动，开成中等之后倒是稳定了不少。
有中文很好，但是汉化还不完善，有些地方明显没用心。
游戏模式很有想法，比帝国2的（几乎）千篇一律强的多了。英雄的存在本来应该是个玩点，但是一般都要先进科技才能出，似乎还有死了就没法复活的问题？不知道是不是原来玩魔兽3的影响，总觉得这个英雄的设计很微妙。
跟AI打对战的时候不知道是什么问题，反正地中海地图，AI几乎不会造兵，只是爆农民，说几乎是因为拖上几十分钟还是会有十几个兵的（难度是困难，其他地图没试）。另外寻路做的堪比星际1的龙骑、很2，在地中海地图上问题很明显，直接点海对面的话部队根本不会绕过去，只会在岸边抽搐，于是只能shift手动绕路，这个不改善很影响游戏体验。游戏界面中的帮助最好再加一点，至少我第一把玩阿兹特克都不知道囚犯怎么用，后来才摸索出来的。另外能不能加个像星际2的F2那样的按键啊，后期到处找分散的部队很麻烦啊。
生存模式也去试了一把，结果发现地图上没有石矿，我后期修理TC都需要靠市场买石头，这个地图设计是故意这样的吗？总之我感觉很纠结。但是这个模式本身还是很有意思的，期待后续添加更多内容。
最后我想说的是，官方不来个游牧地图吗？原来帝国2除了经常打的阿拉伯3V3，最喜欢的就是游牧/陆地游牧了，强烈要求出个游牧地图啊啊啊啊啊！

I didnt played much sadly, but that bit was a lot of fun.

But i cant recommend it, since there are massive performance issues with AMD CPUs (a few people reported performance issues with Intel aswell). The moment a game starts, the FPS drop to like 8-12. 3v3 and 4v4 Matches are unplayable. In 2v2 it starts well and has FPS drops after the first few minutes in game to the point where its unplayable.
Many other Users reported similiar performance issues aswell. The Devs are currently working to fix it, but as of right now, its not. I refunded it before its to late and doesnt get fixed (you never know).

只体验了十几分钟就申请退款。原因是游戏质量非常劣质。
其中包括三点：
-优化差，960的显卡帧数不超过20。
-操作手感差。控制一个兵要过0.几秒才移动，像是有500的延迟一样。
-智障AI。我一个轻骑兵能砍死地方三个轻骑兵，原因只因对面在跳社会摇。
这种游戏体验已经足以让我放弃这款游戏了，给我感觉游戏的综合素质不如帝国时代II。

当然本作也有优点。
+民族差距较大，这点比帝国的大同小异要好。
+科技树完整。
+加入英雄系统，但是无奈操作手感太差，无法给人带来更好的体验。

目前来说这款游戏是不合格的，不过还是希望未来能越做越好。

堪称智障的寻路ai，迷之物理碰撞，迷之远程追踪，迷之敌人难度（中等敌人比困难敌人更会暴兵？），迷之操作手感，迷之掉帧，汉化不完全，没有剧情战役。至于挑战，制作组自己玩过没有？配合着之前的种种缺点能把玩家气死。
总而言之，这就是一部半成品，虽然画风比较讨喜，但是其他的需要改进的真的有很多，根本不值这个价格，不推荐现在入手。

I tried to get in on the beta for this and was denied several times. Decided what the heck and bought the game when it became available on steam, which after about 87 minutes I requested a refund for. Maybe after some updates the game will polished enough to be worth the 30 dollar price tag but tbh In it's current state I'd maybe pay between 10 and 15 dollars. I hate to be that guy but right now Age of empires 2 HD is far superior to this in just about every way, and with new RTS games on the horizon (Age 4, Iron Harvest, Stronghold 4.. etc) unless this game is updated or discounted it will be left behind.

When it works properly it's a very good if basic RTS, but it rarely works for me. Every map play either end up with fatal errors and crashes or I get 9 fps on every graphics settings. The way I feel, this is just a early access game without the label.

I love this game, its good fun especially for those of you who loved the old age of empires. However, there are things than need ironing out. For example the Mongols, they are my favorite civ but i feel like their cavalry is a little underwhelming, especially agaisnt top tier French and Arabic cav. I think the Mongol cav as a whole might need some tweaking to make them a bit more powerful. there are also a few glitches and the AI can be dodgy. but if you can get past these you will have a great time with this game.

사실 게임 자체는 제법 마음에 듦. AOE랑 대단히 비슷하긴 한데, 티어 올리는 거나 진영별 차이를 두는 시스템이 블리자드 RTS나 제너럴 이후의 C&C 시리즈랑 비슷했음. 이런 컨셉은 상당히 좋았다. 사운드트랙도 상당히 마음에 듦.

그러나 빈약한 AI와 최적화 문제가 심각하다.
유닛들이 길을 못 찾고 프레임드랍이 상당히 심함, 이건 RTS하면서 겪을 수 있는 것 중 최악의 문제다.

그래서 현재로서는 이 게임을 추천하기 어려움. 패치로 이런 문제를 해결해줬으면 좋겠는데...
문제는 그 때 플레이어베이스가 빠져버리면 그거대로 (대단히 큰) 문제라는 것임.

여러모로 안타깝다.

Ich hab mich sehr gefreut, dass endlich wieder einmal ein AoE-ähnliches Spiel rauskommt - und dies auch nicht als EA Titel. Allerdings hatte ich anfangs aufgrund der Desynchronisation das Problem, dass ich nicht online mit meinem Freund spielen konnte. Dann haben wir uns gedacht ok, warten wir ein bisschen. Dies wurde nun gefixt, allerdings hat er nun trotz eines starken PCs FPS Schwierigkeiten. Obwohl wir ein Spiel frisch starten und noch nicht einmal viele Einheiten und Gebäude und auch nur mit 2-3 KIs gespielt hatten, kam er maximal auf 10 FPS - sprich unspielbar. Wenn er ein Spiel eröffnet, fliege ich auch einfach raus und wenn ich mich nochmals verbinden möchte, kommt wieder die Desynchronisation und es tut sich nichts mehr. Auch bleibt es oft einfach nur hängen, sodass ich es nur über den Taskmanager schließen kann. Und wie ihr sehen könnt, habe ich noch nicht einmal 2 Spielstunden und trotzdem diese Probleme in so kurzer Zeit.

Das Spiel hat für mich somit einen EA Status. Auch was die Einstellungen angeht, ist es meiner Meinung nach ein EA Game (zB keine LAN Möglichkeit, bei Multiplayer Lobby kann man kein privates Game einstellen, es gibt sehr wenig Karten, Tiere buggen im Kreis rum usw). Der Aktionspreis 23 Euro statt 28 ist zwar nicht so viel, allerdings erwartet man sich viel mehr von einem Spiel, welches nicht im EA Status erschienen ist.

Somit kann ich es zur Zeit nicht empfehlen!

制作组试图做一个改进版的帝国时代2，必须承认的是，他们确实挺有想法，改进的思路我也很喜欢，但是目前这个作品并不算是一个合格能玩的游戏，游戏体验简直令人难以忍受。尽管退款了，我还是会持续地关注，如果制作组能做出改进，我仍然愿意买回来。

+复制并改进了帝国时代2的成功模式。
+将科技升级分为经济军事两方面，给了玩家更多博弈选择空间。
+加入英雄，增加了战斗过程中的操作乐趣。
+文明压缩为6个，彼此差别增加，乐趣当然也增加了。

-优化差。卡通画风还让显卡转的飞起实在是过分
-操作性差。手感不要说对比星际争霸2了，还不如帝国时代2
-AI智障，寻路各种卡住。AI对手更是搞笑
-没有战役
-生存模式由于智障的AI，毫无乐趣

I literary have been waiting for something similar to appear for at least ten years. I cannot understand many of the negative reviews that game has got , especially it is only out since two days. But most of those proably do not understand what major disappoitments for example Empire Earth III, Planetary Anihilation and Dawn of war III have been.

So far I have played it is solid and engageing at least for me.

It is played so far like AoE II but has an even faster speed ( I am used to 6+ hour marathons ine Empire Earth /3+ in AoE since there building material will be long gone/)
The differences between the empires are major while the classic rock paper scissors mechanic is still in play.
But the build order for the nations varies greatly.

There will be a lot which has to be edited and added but I think that I have to get the word out that it is good.

I will admit it is a bit difficult to recommend the game in its current state with a $30 price tag. And especially if you are not the kind of person that enjoys multiplayer and likes to queue up against AIs and nothing else, this is DEFINTELY not the game for you at all.
However, if you enjoy multiplayer, quick in-depth gameplay, and a ranked experience that doesn't require hours of Lobby Simulator 2018, then this is a title you can probably get a good deal of enjoyment out of.

All that said, from a game design perspective this game does a great job in my mind. It borrows and builds upon the old-school RTS model quite well-- although its choice of time period easily lends it to the "ripoff" label that I do not think it fully deserves. Functionally however, the game is missing a number of quality-of-life features and a level of polish that one might come to expect in an RTS. But as much as I resent the strategy of releasing games seemingly unfinished-- the developers seem very committed to improving the game. (For instance a balance/bug patch was pushed almost immediately after release when imbalance/desyncs were discovered.)

Subjectively I think the art style is quite nice and not nearly as distracting as many make it out to be, though many of the models are still far from perfect in my opinion.

Everything taken into consideration along with the commitment the small 3 man development team is showing toward the community's concerns, I'd say EA has a good potential for a strong future.

wer auf singelplayer aus ist, ist hier falsch
wer aber auf ne schnelle (oder auch längere)online-RTS partie aus ist, wird hier seine freude haben.

Endlich mal ein Aoe ähnliches Spiel mit 1v1 Matchmaking!! Mir macht es Spass! Zum balancing kann ich noch nicht viel sagen. Bisher fühlt es sich ganz okay an, nichts was man nicht patchen könnte! Frage ist nur, ob es nicht eher erst als EA hätte erscheinen sollen. Was mir negativ aufgefallen ist, sind ab und zu random Abstürzte, was nervt, wenn man am gewinnen ist.

This is a game that takes the Age of Empires gameplay we know and love and builds on it in small but fun and thoughtful ways. It's incredibly refreshing to see an RTS made that isn't trying to recapture the MOBA audience, and it's even more heartening to see the clear love for old-school RTS gameplay the developers are working from. In the early days after launch there have been issues - some serious performance problems on large maps and some occasional pathfinding goofs - but I'm already really enjoying the game as I'm able to play it, and the developers seem active and are working towards improving it; they've already released a few small patches that fixed one or two issues I was seeing.

There are tons of small conveniences in the UI that feel like they were designed by people who played and thought about AoE2 - markets and farms are handled much more elegantly, there's a button for grabbing your wounded units, there are better visualizations of control groups and idle villagers... a lot of small changes have been made to the familiar formula with the goal of improving quality of life, and for the most part it's been great!

The biggest difference between this and an old Age game is how unique each of the civilizations are. I've mostly been playing as Aztecs and Chinese so far, and each civ has unique mechanics and tech trees and units that make them feel like properly different experiences. I love the Aztec prisoner-taking mechanic in particular - there's a special fun to raiding your enemy, turning their units into prisoners, then converting the prisoners into free villagers or sacrificing them for resources. The way Mongols build and deconstruct and move their buildings around is actually really clever, and fun to play around with.

The art style is also fun and charming in its own way, even though there are a few uneven elements to it, and the sounds and music and voices are surprisingly well-done and nicely tailored to each civilization, considering this is very much a small, low-budget project.

No, I don't love every design choice - I think walls could stand to be more imaginative, I'm lukewarm on the day/night cycle, and a few of the units look a bit too similar to one another at a glance. But this is a valiant effort that has resulted in a fun game, and I want to see development continued and maybe even expanded upon. It could be something truly special, especially if it sees enough success for the devs to keep working on it for months or years to come.

That's why I'm rather unusually reviewing the game before I've really had my fill of it - traditional RTS games are an endangered species, and since I've really enjoyed my first few games (I was definitely worried it would be too janky before I actually played it), I wanted to throw a good review out there early to encourage people to try it and to encourage the devs to keep working on it. Once I've played all of the civs and modes more extensively, and once it's been patched a bit, I'll try to remember to update this review with some more precise thoughts.

This game is one of the most interesting and beautiful ideas I have seen in a long time. The potential for this title is amazing and I hope that the developers are able to bring it to where it needs to be.

But in all likely hood it will never get there.

Many People have complained about the single player, but the games focus says it is competitive multiplayer, so I will be discussing on that and tell you why I can’t recommend this amazing game.

Its relatively simple, there are 3 problems that will prevent this game from getting off the ground.

1) First it released in a very poor state (not in early access) which turned many people off from the game and stalled the player base, if you play a 2v2 and it gets to late game the game will crash. Which is a real shame as the 2v2 and higher has real potential if they turned it into something that was not just a simple as a LOL like team selection at the start that has no real effect.

But let’s say they do change it to something more interesting and unique mode that separates it from the other RTS games you then run into the second problem

2) There is one competitive mode which is 1v1, so all the higher player modes don’t mean anything because if you want to be ranked there is as I said only 1v1. But as of this moment there are at a peak around 200 players for this game, which means not only is the base extremely small which will create large que times, but there are many players which I have faced that clearly have played the beta for some time which leads to HUGE disparities in game understanding and you will lose A LOT when you are trying to understand the game.

Now for me I am fine with facing stronger opponents if makes for an interesting challenge. The majority of players however will be completely turned off by that and with an extreme lack of AI and almost no hosted custom games you really don’t have many options.

This brings us to the final problem

3) For a game based on history it is only appropriate to point out that past games that begin this poorly are normally abandoned. The reason is simply, this is a gaming company and no matter how passionate their developers are, if their player base is small and they can’t get it grow they will be losing money on a product. And like any other business you can’t function if you don’t get income from your products or you don’t have the reserves to fund a failing project in a hope that one day it takes off. With Age of Empires 4 and other RTS games coming not to mention games like North Guard and They are Billions that are currently out, very functional, and have a very different approach to the RTS style, it is difficult to see any other outcome than the forced abandonment of this game.

I hope I am wrong, that I can look back in weeks, months or even a year, take down my review and preach to all to go out and buy this game. But with a need for bug fixes and increase single player content , better AI, a purposefully 2v2 and higher mode, bigger player base, Inability to host private games, in game mechanical fixes with pathing, balancing, game stability, and a need for the game to make a name for its self in a different way outside of "a competitive RTS", based on past games I can’t see a way for this game to recover and become the game I wish it could be.

Really unimpressed with this game.

I'm a huge fan of RTS games, Age of Empires and Age of Mythology especially. While Empires Apart definitely borrows heavily from these games, it feels like a bare-bones recreation rather than something trying to build off the genre's past success.

I might be able to look past the game's poor performance, odd UI, baffling controls/hotkeys, lackluster AI, and overall lack of polish if there was something special underneath. But all that's there is a bland game which looks to appeal to RTS newcomers in the laziest way possible. There is also no meaningful single-player content, despite the game not being mechanically deep enough nor contain a sufficient amount of content to rely solely on multi-player skirmishes to carry it.

Empires Apart tries to do almost nothing new to set itself apart, and doesn't streamline the RTS genre in a satisfying enough way to be novel. I cannot in any way recommend you pick up this game, and I'm not sure if any amount of patching or future updates can fix the problems I have with it.

As an Age of Empires II fan myself, I couldn't resist but compare this game to AOE II. I've made a well-edited video where I list all the differences I could spot. Hopefully it will give you an idea on what to expect from this game:

If you don't know AOE II, then here is a brief list of pros and cons:

- Pros:
1. Nice Graphics
2. Smooth gameplay
3. Multiplayer is alive and it takes about 7 seconds to find a ranked room
4. Lots of useful tools such as automated farm reseeding, etc
5. Six different nations, each of which features truly unique gameplay and even unique soundtracks
6. Decent balance despite the variety of units and unique abilities
7. In brief, the game looks and feels good

- Cons:
1. No campaign
2. Tutorial is short and it might be challenging for a newcomer to learn all of the things they need to be good at the game
3. Requires quite a beefy PC (will NOT work on a PC/laptop without a dedicated GPU)
4. Just like in AOE II and most RTS games, multiplayer latency depends on the host. There are no dedicated game servers, which is not an issue usually, though sometimes it can get a bit challenging to deal with the lag

In brief:
Would I recommend you this game? If you are an AOE II fan, then sure. It is totally worth a try. I wouldn't recommend you this if you are totally new to RTS because it's quite challenging for now. Otherwise, it's a decent game and I'd say, if you've got the money, give it a try.

Da dieser Titel nicht early access ist und auch stolze 30€ kostet, habe ich einiges von dem Spiel erwartet.
Aber dieses Spiel bietet so unfassbar wenig kontent...nach nichtmal 15 Minuten hat man alles von dem Spiel gesehen, alles erforscht und gebaut. Und das, obwohl ich dieses Spiel vorher nichtmal kannte und nebenbei sogar noch an den Grafikeinstellungen rumgespielt habe. War lange nicht mehr so enttäuscht von einem RTS wie von diesem...

*Before reading: You want to play against a dumb NPC and always win with loads of unnenecesary clicking? This might be your game.

This game looked to be nice, nice concept good enough graphics and just the classical gameplay..

But pathfinding is a terrible mess. NPC get stuck in a loop doing nothing but spin around.
Resource depleted? Lets stand here while the next tree is only 1 block away.

besides that NPC's are also a joke. The NPC builds only houses and grabs gold like it got gold fever. Waited an hour for an NPC to start building something on hard dificulty.. Nothing else.

UI is buggy aswel. Was playing as the Mongols, and the UI start freaking out. After each 3 second it deselected everything I had selected. Byebye building or recruiting.

Considering it has been a long time in devolpment and has had a beta for quite some time with a price tag of 28 euros when not discounted.. Nope, not worth it.
Especially considering they don't release it as "early acces" but as a full release. This is far from a full release.

The game has potential. Its not much like AOE so much as in you basically just rush, all of the walls and defensive buildings in this game are useless, youll never get the chance to build them. All you do is get an army in 5 minutes and rush.

You need a very good computer to run 4v4's on a good map. I have never had trouble running any type of game until now.

Although my review sounds bad, this game has potential. It's not worth how much it is right now but the price might be worth it once they tweak it a bit.

사견 : 일단 그래픽에 반해서 도키, 고대 문명이 나와서 도키, 도합 도키도키했던 게임입니다.
올드 RTS를 말하는 만큼 게임 속도는 느리고, 시스템은 AoE2의 시스템 80%를 가져온 듯한 게임성을 가지고 있습니다.
맵에 희귀 자원(금, 돌)은 적고, 채집과 생산이 느린 만큼 유닛 조합과 문명 특성에 맞춘 전략으로 컨트롤 해야합니다.
특히 문명에 따라서 테크트리와 사용가능한 자원이 약간씩 다른데, 아직 시나리오 모드가 없어서 문명별 사용법을 모르는 경우가 많습니다.

+프랑스는 겁나 딴딴합니다. 초반에는 타워와 성벽으로 방어 위주로 가면서 병력을 최대한 아끼고 후반의 요새 유닛 크루세이더와 보병 조합으로 모든걸 밀어버리는 컨셉입니다. 조금 비싼 유닛 비용과 부담스러운 유닛 업그레이드 수순이 있지만.. 보병이 요새 유닛 방어력을 리젠 시켜준다는 점에서 한방에 훅 미는 스타일입니다.

+비잔틴은 고루고루 강합니다. 초반에 아즈텍의 어택땅만 없으면 가면 갈수록 유리해지는 타입이 아닐까 싶네요. 스타로치면 프로토스 정도?

+아랍은 과학력위주라고 하는데, 사실 크게 티는 안납니다. 하지만 종교인과 달리 의사가 지속힐을 해주는 유닛으로 따로 있기 때문에 여러저모 독특합니다. 아즈텍과 마찬가지로 파란 자원이 있는데, 이건 시간이 지나면 자동으로 채워지는건지 특정 조건이 발생하면 채워지는 건지 모르겠지만, 하다보니 다 채워져있습니다.

+아즈텍의 파란 희생 자원은 포로를 잡은 다음 해당 건물에 넣으면 스택이 쌓여서 사용이 가능합니다.
이를 통해서 아즈텍은 깡 보병의 피통과 공속, 공성이 추가 자원없이 즉효성으로 업그레이드 가능함으로, 초반에 유일하게 보병이 식량만 먹는 이점을 이용해서 물량으로 보내서 포로를 다수 확보하는 것이 포인트입니다. 아즈텍은 막말로 나무와 식량만 있으면 세상 정복이 가능한 유일한 문명이라 볼 수이 있습니다. 홀로 철기시대로 못 넘어간 문명이라 걱정했는데, 뭉둥이로 맞아도 아픈건 아픈거다라는 것을 제대로 알려주는 문명입니다.

+중국은 원거리 깡패입니다. 초반 방어만 성공하면 압도적으로 긴 사정거리와 세상 출타 한 저격병과 연노 조합으로 적은 나를 보지도 못하는데 나는 공격하는 모습을 볼 수 있습니다. 근접전이 걱정이라구요? 걱정하지마세요. 엔지니어를 뽑으면 지뢰밭을 매설해서 근접전으로 접근 하는 적들을 날려버릴 수 있습니다.

I have been playing AoE2 and saw this game.

Very buggy AI, on Survival mode I was able to trick AI into simply walking back and forth and never attack due to pathfinding. Villagers also frequently get stuck on objects.
Love the graphics and style and the UI is ok.

Overall I still prefer AoE2.

Would have recommended if it had the "Early access" tag.
It doesn't.

The game simply isn't finished.
- AI is really poor.
- pathing is cluncky
- resources are scarce and easily run out (especially on island maps.)
- town center f.e. can't give command to spawning villagers to gather meat from sheep/deer.
- commands to other resources often don't work properly either as the units get stuck on the way
- maps are very basic and uninteresting.
- the game itself is ... basicly AOE (obviously) but once you get ingame.
And you see the buildings / upgrades / resource costs / styles and interactions.
you'll realise how much this is a copy/paste of aoe with barely any new or "modern" spin to it.
in fact it either lacks things wich even "AOE the rise of rome" had or does a worse job at it.
- optimisation ? have to run it on medium and close my "Black Desert Online" to prevent lag.
for comparison: i ran farcry 5 on max settings yesterday while running black desert in the background without an issue
- and yes after closing everything but the game. putting it on medium settings... it just crashed on me several times.

Sigh. don't feel like making the list longer than it is.
I've been trying to get into the beta for this game a long time.
Been eagerly waiting for the release.
But this.
Is sad :c

I will edit this review once they've added some patches*
So far this was my first impression.

Overall the game lacks a lot of polish and finish. AI is terrible and spent whole game making useless buildings which it deleted randomly later on. I am currently requesting a refund.

Some may find enjoyment with this as it is almost a reskin of Age of Empires II (so similar I am surprised they are not in trouble for blatent copying). This Despite the updated graphics, combat has very basic animations and the game is not enjoyable to look at. I am fine with the overall look of the game, but I am saying some parts and animations just do not look finished.

Overall, I was excited and the gameplay can be enjoyable, but the game overall seems unfinished and needs some work

Os Bot não fazem nada, nao reagem nem produzem infantaria.
Tirando esses problemas que o tornam injogavel a premissa do jogo é boa.

Followed the game for a year or so, I was expecting the AI to be better than the 1999 Age of Empires AI. The AI kept standing still doing nothing, destroying buildings and rebuilding them, and others weren't even trying to compete over relics nor were some even attacking me. (And this was on hardest.)

As usual in this time of day: Graphics are awesome, gameplay not so much.

What should've been an awesome launch resulted in me refunding the game in it's current state. Feels like a shame as I hoped to it to launch (as the teaser told) 'a new age of genre'.

EDIT: I did want to add to my fairly negative review that I was just hoping the developers would've pushed out a stable version of the game, and not in early beta stage. AI bugs this bad could've been avoided more easy than people think.

I don't accept that kind of developer behaviour, and neither shouldn't you.

Need to write a new review now that this game was made free to play. Here's the old review when the game was first released:

Short version.
I like the game. Can recommend.

Long version:
I come from AoE2 background (around 600h playtime). I can't compare this to other RTS like StarCraft 2 but I can give an AoE2 player's perspective on this. I have played around 120h in the Empires Apart's beta.

If you have played AoE 2 you can pick up the basics fast. This game isn't a simple AoE2 clone. The game has its own feel to it and differentiates from AoE2 in many aspects. Generally the game is faster paced than AoE2 and has new mechanics and quality of life improvements.

Currently there are 6 civilizations. Every one of them is unique. For example, Mongols play completely different to the Byzantines. Each civ has some mechanics that are unique to that civ. Balancing this will be difficult but the devs are listening to the community and are ready to support the game.

There isn't a full campaign at least yet but there are puzzle-like challenges for each civ. They are great at showing the unique abilities that civs have. When you have grasped the basics of the game these are a good way to learn about unique things the civs have and some more advanced tactics.

Currently there is no scenario editor but I've heard that modding tools are going to be released sometime after the release. I'd still need a dev confirmation (maybe there's a response in the comments?) to be sure.

The game is not perfect. It currently has some bugs and balancing issues. Thankfully the devs are active and want to make this game as good as possible. They listen to the feedback and want to make the experience even better than it currently is.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this game evolves and genuinely enjoy playing it.

What a massive, massive let down this game is.
Being a huge fan of the classic RTS games for many a year, I had watched the development of this game over the last 6 or so months with interest, hoping it would pick up where the likes of AOE left off, perhaps with a modern take on the tried and trusted formats, no such luck.
Well, unless by modern, you expect the increasingly cynical approach game developers are taking these days, by releasing half finished, poorly optimised content, with the promise of further updates to provide the content that should be there at launch, this game would appear to excel in that respect.
I requested a refund after around 1 hour of play time. Having purchased around 200 games on Steam, this is only the 2nd time I've done so, here's why.
I was immediately struck by the realisation that this is nowhere near a full/finished game.
Having played through the worryingly short tutorial, and in the apparent absence of any kind of single player campaign option (really and RTS without a campaign!?) I decided I'd start off with the survival mode.
I was astonished to find that this mode contained 1 map .... with the promise of more maps to be added later, apparently.
The map itself was beyond basic, a barren square with a few resources dotted around, and a town centre in the middle as a starting point. The idea of course, being to defend it against increasingly difficult waves of enemies, something I became bored of long before the end of the 15 minutes it took the AI to overwhelm my increasingly half hearted attempts at defence.
I decided next, to give the challenge scenarios a bash, hoping that it would form the basis of some kind of campaign to play through, no such luck, just very basic scenarios of units squaring off against one another ... 2 archers vs a more powerful infantry unit, etc,etc ... again I became very bored, very quickly and gave up after a few of these challenges.
So then, nothing else for it, with little interest in playing multiplayer, at least until I'd managed to get a few practice games under my belt, I gave the skirmish a go.
Again, an absolute dearth of options here. The basic, choose AI opponent, choose difficulty, and if you like, set teams, and with only 7 maps, little scope for variety.
Having set up a skirmish against 2 AI opponents on a large island map, I clicked on start ... and the game promplty crashed, kicking me back out to desktop.
Another failed attmpt at launching a skirmish, was more than enough to put my already rapidly waning interest in this game to bed.
Perhaps someone with a little more perseverance, would have messed around with their settings enough to get the skirmish mode working, however having already tired of this mess of a game, I seen little point in wasting more of my time trying to get this poorly optimized, half hearted, half finished game, to run.
Becoming increasingly sick of being conned out of my money by developers who can't be bothered to finish their games before releasing them, I decided I wanted a refund, and I also decided to take the time to write this review (again something I very rarely do) in the hope that it would save someone else the disappointment of playing this game.
Do yourself a favour, go back to AOE, dust of your copy of C&C, or content yourself with another go around on Sins of a Solar Empire, in the hope that at some point, someone, somewhere, will do this classic genre some justice again.

The best RTS game in a LONG time.

There are problems obviously, with balance and a few bugs, but they will be fixed in time and over all the multiplayer experiance is super enjoyable and pretty smooth.

Considering that this is a game made by 3 develoupers for the most part I believe it is an incredible success! Some AI behvaiours and a few odd decisions aside the game is super complex and really enjoyable.

Pro tip tho, turn motion blur off, many people have been saying that scrolling is laggy and it's a misconception due to motion blur so turn it off and you'll have no problems!

Empezaré por partes, esto es lo que todos los fans de el age of empires 2 andaban buscando, un juego muy bien hecho pero además con el puntazo de que hace un gran honor al AOE 2 sin ser un clon.

Tenemos 6 civilizaciones divididas en subgrupos por así decirlo de la siguiente manera:
Bizantinos y Franceses---> Expansión.
Chinos y Árabes--->Protección.
Aztecas y Mongoles--->Agresión.

Cada civilización tiene una forma distinta de juego basada en su estilo, expansión, protección y agresión.. siendo como bien se deduce mas agresivas o mas defensivas en plan tanke.

Las diferencias entre la forma de jugar es tal que por ejemplo los mongoles (civilización nómada), sus unidades son las que se convierten en los edificios estilo zergs del starcraft con la peculiaridad de que puedes recuperar al aldeano si desmontas la construcción.

De verdad que se agradece esto, es decir.. no tenemos 15 civilizaciones o más practicamente iguales entre ellas, si no que tenemos 6 diferenciadas en subgrupos y con un estilo de juego muy diferente entre ellas.

En cuanto a la configuración del teclado es otra maravilla, tenemos la capacidad de crearnos el perfil para cada civilización y elegir nuestras macros (accesos directos con las teclas), etc.
Cabe destacar que antes de empezar una partida con la civilización podemos elegir un heroe entre 2 que nos da a elegir con ciertas habilidades únicas.

Otra cosa distinta al age of empires es que aquí no se avanza de edad si no que tenemos dos ramas en las que ir avanzando, o avanzamos en ecónomía (mejorando así los aldeanos, edificios ecónomicos etc), o avanzamos en técnología militar en la que mejoramos directamente las unidades militares a costa de una economía peor pero con una capacidad ofensiva mayor, todo depende de la civilización y el estilo de juego que escojamos.

Podemos avanzar por ejemplo primero en economía y a continuación avanzar en militar, el comienzo es simple ya que no se nos mezclan los recursos, para avanzar en economía son por ejemplo 400 de madera, y en militar 400 de comida, pero deberemos elegir en que avanzar primero.

Por cada vez que avancemos en economía por ejemplo podremos crear un centro urbano adicional.

Luego otra de las diferencias que hay es en las reliquias y en los monjes, una función muy similar al age of empires pero también con diferencia bastante grande entre ellos, por ejemplo... Los monjes chinos tienen un daño bastante interesante dando mamporros a lo más típico shaolín eso sí no pueden transformar a las unidades enemigas, y si los dejas quietos pasados unos segundos entrarán en posición de meditación y curarán automáticamente a las unidades de alrededor dentro de un area.

Hay una estratégia un tanto curiosa de los chinos, y es que no tienen mejoras para recoger más rapidamente la madera, o el oro como otras civilizaciones pero tienen una opción que podemos activar o desactivar a nuestro antojo en la que recogen los recursos más rápidamente a costa de que el aldeano va perdiendo vida progresivamente hasta llegar al punto de morir, si en lugar de ello ponemos cerca algún monje que cura en area y los posicionamos de forma que los aldeanos estén dentro de su area de sanación podremos combar las dos cosas.

Recogerán recursos más rápidamente y no morirá ningún aldeano, curiosa forma de llenarte la ciudad de monjes.

Las reliquias pueden ser transportadas al templo, igual que en el age of empires 1 y 2 pero... dan unas ventajas muy buenas en la partida haciendo muy interesante su recogida, por no decir que casi obligatoria.

Conforme vamos reuniendo reliquias recibiremos distintas bonificaciones para la civilización, obteniendo al reuniras + 1 de ataque + 1 de defensa para TODAS las unidades, +1 de oro por segundo, +1 de alcance para las unidades a distancia, y así... contra más reliquias obtengamos mejores bonificaciones obtendremos para la civilización.

Por decir algo que para mi no es negativo pero que para algunas personas puede que lo sea, [b] no tiene modo campaña, está completamente enfocado al multijugador, la IA deja mucho que desear en las partidas también tiene un modo de juego llamado supervivencia en el que recoges recursos durante el día y por la noche te atacan, debes sobrevivir el máximo tiempo posible.

Para los amantes de los RTS que busquen partidas multijugador, clasificatorias etc y un sucesor más que digno para el AOE 2, este es tu juego, [B] si por el contrario buscas una campaña y demás, no lo compres porque no tiene. [/b]

La banda sonora es de lo mejorcito, tenemos cantidad de mapas diferentes en las que se va alternando día y noche conforme jugamos un detalle más añadido.

-Civilizaciones muy diferenciadas entre sí.

-Interfaz muy intuitiva y fluida.

-Gran capacidad para macrear las teclas de forma comoda y diferente para cada civilización con la creación sencilla de perfiles para el teclado.

-Muy enfocado a multijugador, está en pre-season con lo cual hay clasificaciones según el nivel que tengamos, lo típico, oro, plata, platino etc...

-Muy buena banda sonora, cada civilización tiene su propia música.

-Ciclo de día y noche, el rango de visibilidad por la noche se verá bastante reducida, (ciertas unidades tienen ventajas únicas de noche, como los asesinos) un punto que a simple vista parece simple pero que es bastante importante.

Contras:

-No tiene campaña (es una lástima ya que con los heroes habría quedado muy bien un modo historia, ojalá la implementen más adelante.)

-Tiene algunos pequeños bugs en el path finding al clickar y que las unidades tomen un camino erroneo o equivocado para llegar, (no he tenido casos graves ni desastrosos, ni me ha pasado frecuentemente como en el age of empires definitive edition, pero si me ha pasado alguna vez, nada grave y que supongo que solventaran en próximos parches.)

-En ocasiones se cierra el juego al terminar la partida, es un error un poco molesto que supongo que arreglarán en algún hotfix.

-La IA tiene unos errores bastante gordos que deberían de arreglar cuanto antes, muy poca dificultad y movimientos sin sentido en las partidas.

Tened en cuenta que mi valoración es siempre enfocándola en el apartado multijugador que es lo que más me interesa, he pasado por alto los notables bugs de la IA y la falta de campaña, aspectos basados en el modo un jugador.

No he tenido lag en ninguna partida, ni problemas de desconexión, de momento.
Repito, conforme está el juego ahora si tu intención es jugar vs la ia en partidas de un jugador, no lo compres porque te defraudaras.

Si por el contrario te interesa jugar en multijugador competitivo con clasificaciones y demás y te gustan los RTS puede ser una compra muy interesante.

Im Prinzip ein AoE 2 abklatsch im niedlichen Grafikstil.
Es ist gut gemacht und beinhaltet alles was ein RTS braucht.

Es müsste aber noch so einiges behoben werden:
- die Übersetzung ist nicht einwandfrei bzw. teilweise noch Englisch
- die Dorfbewohner legen manchmal Felder nicht neu an, stecken irgendwo fest oder laufen auf der Stelle (ebenso manchmal auch Soldaten) und das obwohl man sehr viele davon braucht....
- ES GIBT KEINE KAMPANGE! nur ein paar Herausforderungen
- die Reichweite des Trebuchet ist ja lachhaft
- Pro Wirtschaftszweig (Militär/Wirtschaft) gibt es nur 2 Entwicklungen?

游戏好评，不过由于游戏是刚刚推出，还有很多应该改进的地方，如果不是对rts游戏，和历史军事感兴趣的玩家建议等游戏逐步完善后再入手。
下面说几个应该改进的地方：
游戏每隔大概十分钟就会非常卡顿，，FPS降低到10以下，不知道是什么原因，即使将画质降低到最低，问题依旧。
中国小兵的服装有问题，汉族古代传统服饰应该是右衽，游戏中大部分是左衽。
目前只发现了这两个问题，有机会再补充

Ну что я могу сказать, игра мне понравилась. Опытные игроки не увидят в этой игре что-то кардинально новое, игра сделана по класической формуле Age of Empires. Графика приятная на взгляд, глаза не устают, так же присутствует смена дня и ночи. Есть небольшие приятные мелочи, например у воинов ацтеков есть возможность активировать навык "взять в плен", тем самым ваш боец не убьёт врага, когда у него не останется здоровья, а возьмёт его в плен, рядом появится пленник, которого можно обратить в рабочего или отправить его на алтарь, чтобы улучшить экономические или военные технологии. Так же у ацтеков нельзя улучшать воинов (ранги), воины сами повышаются в ранге, нанеся определённое количество урона врагам.
Правда есть и недостаток, у всех фракций достаточно мало технологий, по этой причине вы можете уйти в экономику, быстро прокачать все технологии, а потом беспрерывно клипать солдат и давить так врага. Хотелось бы видеть больше технологий для изучения. И что не мало важно, в городских центрах нет кнопки, "тревога", что затрудняет спрятать рабочих при нападении, приходиться делать всё в ручную. Так же в игре на данный момент всего 6 наций и отличаются они от друг друга не так сильно, скажем так, у каждой нации есть стандартный "мечникк" и "копейщик". Однако можно похвалить разработчиков за то, что тип этих воинов одинаковый, но они имеют свою текстуру (подстать их культуре) и историческое название.
Контента не так много, я надеюсь это в будущем исправят. Но так же есть разные режимы: класический(битва), испытание(мини-миссии), выживание(продержаться в обороне как можно больше), ну и обучение. Кампании в игре нет =(
Иногда игра может крашнуться, к счастью в игре есть автосохранение.
Игру рекомендую, главное чтобы её развивали.

Game was in my opinion quite bad at release but now the game is GOOD AGAIN. I want to encourage everyone who is reading this to give the game another try, especially now it is free to play. The multiplayer base is stable, you find games with a max search time of 2-3 min during day hours.
