If you're a fan of the Dune lore and can get lost in hours of adventuring, exploring, and losing yourself in your character and storyline, then this game is for you. The story kept me hooked and the hours of side questing, building, looting, exploring keep me playing this game day in and out. With the recent DLC content and rework of the Landsraad, the end game is moving in the right direction to keep long-term players engaged with meaningful content. The Deep Desert provides the right amount of risk and reward for solo players like myself to venture out in search of that ornithopter full of spice or treasures long lost to the sands. The newer testing stations provide a solid challenge for players who like to aim higher and go for the top tier gear. I'm excited to see where this game goes - it's still in the first year and the developers have shown they listen to the player base and are committed to making Dune Awakening a world where gamers can immerse themselves to their hearts content!

I just want to start by saying, i love Frank Herbert's universe of Dune, and almost all of it's incarnations, but this game is ♥♥♥♥♥. I've given it 12 hours, and feel ripped off. i wish i could get my money back. the combat is boring, predictive and repetative. PLEASE, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! MMOs should hook you from the get go, not make wish for more. this game gets a sad 2 out of 10 from me.

melee is supposed to be a big part of the universe, but the controls for it are pretty bad. Story line is weak and drops quickly. The game play itself it's rather cool at first but doesn't change, like ever. All the new gear if just the exact same gear but a little stronger, but the enemies get a little stronger. Therefore nothing changed. It kinda like paying for an endless grind. Played until the 5th tier of gear and got sick of nothing changing ever.

Unfortunately when you pay for a game, play 150 hours to build up your character/base/clan, have a private server on GPortal, the server quality is so bad that you can barely even play the game.

Have never run into such massive server issues with any other game I've ever played.

Dune the game itself is great, especially with friends, but GPortal has to be the worst private server hosting company in existence and they are single handedly ruining this experience.

Such a bummer.....

This game is the Mac n Cheese.

The world was very well built and feels alive. The giant sandworms were amazing to see and nerv racking when trying to collect spice. Co-op is fun but needs some work when doing quests together. Some parts of quests only allow it to be done solo or sometimes you both need to complete the task instead of counting for the group. Base building is cool but not the best. This game is worth the price.

I had such high hopes for this game, I played it way past the point where I realized it's not anywhere near what I was hoping for. Even though survival games were never in my top five game genres, as a lifelong fan of the Dune I was convinced that any game that takes place on Arrakis had to have this component. But as it was advertised as an MMO I was hoping it won't only come down to that; exploring Arrakis together with friends I made in other MMOs, achieving goals and overcoming obstacles together, and of course enjoying a good story centered on my customized character - I was so looking forward to that. And in all this Dune fell short: outside of PVP, which largely comes down to exploiting numerous bugs to harm other players, there is no actual endgame to speak of, at least not in terms of cooperative content - because fighting the same boss in 100 layers of difficulty (which generally means just a ludicrous HP increase and a fight that lasts forever) all by yourself (or with others, it makes little difference) IS NOT challenging or engaging. I had high hopes for the story but it also turned stale really fast, making your choices matter less than in any other game I have ever played. I can't say more without spoiling it for those still willing to try it but today I am packing up my base - in case I ever actually forget how bad this game is and decide to try it again - and uninstalling this disappointment.

I rejoined this game after a time away and all of my things are gone, my backed up thopter and base were gone and I was given a "package" of supplies based on my level but I am left where my base was but with no vehicle to travel with...I do not have enough materials to recover my massive base and multiple vehicles, and because I stepped away before the base backup tool I am not left trying to figure everything out from scratch...saw that and immediately uninstalled and am now never coming back to the game. The game was fun in the beginning then gets repetitive, then if you step away for minimal time your base will erode and the vehicles blow up, so you are forced to keep playing if you want to have your stuff stay...massive issues with this game and its sad because now I am not coming back even though I wanted to pick up where I left off. So ultimately i do not recommend this for long term fun, only shorter term enjoyment

boring and tiresome. the game requires the same amount of time sink as an MMO, but instead of doing anything exciting you spend roughly 90% of your time collecting resources, waiting for resources (which causes you to just log out and wait til tomorrow), or for some reason collecting water to produce the resources (even to melt metals? and 10x or more water than the raw metal itself?). the other 10% is spent killing poorly scripted enemies at locations to collect resources or moving to a place to collect resources. even with 0 players on my server consistently i still lag constantly, get input registration misses, and bugs with basic interaction/movement. its basically an idle game that requires you to do everything manually.

Picked it up on sale recently and have been playing solo. Will definitely recommend to my friends for co-op. Been a fan of the Dune universe for ages, and I've really enjoyed the game's dedication to the books' lore! The base building is really fantastic and there's nothing like seeing a worm for the first time rise up from the sand in the distance while you're racing across the dunes. Big fan so far.

Spent 2 hours trying to move base locations died multiple times to thirst while building new base and kept my inventory the whole time so like any normal person I just figured you didn't lose your stuff when you died. Accidently spawned at the wrong base so I killed my self via worm to get back to my vehicle respawn point just to see everything I've farmed for 20 hours to disappear . Prob a skill issue but holy what a waste of my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time.

combat is boring and repetitive, exploration is uneventful and unbearably grindy, all dungeons are the same, there are 3 enemies total. It'd honestly be ass for a F2P and they charge how much for this? Not even like fauna or anything, absolutely dysmal progression, all abilities feel incredibly samey, the entire game is just driving back and forth to mine whatever new color swap mineral you need. Insane snooze-fest, the only thing it has going for it is the world that the devs couldn't be bothered filling up with anything remotely interesting. Straight up waste of time

While it is just about like Conan and all the other "survival" games, this has a different story line to the Dune series. I like the new storyline so far, and I am waiting to see whether they can keep it up or not - on the fun side anyhow.
I do struggle to keep the game up because my computer is about 10 years old and is definitely in need of a Nvidia RTX 5090 which once I get to draw my full Veterans Disability pay I will be upgrading this computer to have the above video card(s) x2 and a new motherboard, CPU, Memory, etc..

After over 1000 hours I definitely got my money's worth but...
The game is WAY to grindy! I have to harvest resourses for days or more just to build the endgame vehicles and equipment. Having to clear out the same location (dungeon, settlement, etc.) more than a dozen times for schematic sets gets really old really fast. Having to do the same activity over and over again for resourses and schematics get really boring. Most of the weapons are worthless against half the mobs. It was fun to do the quests but I think I'm done for now... I'll pack up my bases and go to Arrakeen and maybe come back months from now or more. The game starts out strong but late game is too grindy and the weapons that are supposed to be the most powerful seem ineffective against half the mobs. I think the game is geared towards players in their prime. Older players (slower or more casual) just can't survive in Deep Desert Testing Stations and Overland Map dungeons especially if they are playing solo. Still, the game is worth the money I payed for it.

I like the game overall but what are these lame @$$ quests?
Chapter 2 quests just made me rage quit. Go to this room. Click on these things run back to this person that is 100 meters from it. Repeat. Go to Deep Deseret, do same thing. Then I go back and the instance won't even load. This game is ruined by the lame quests. Why am I running back? Some quests let you just call to relay info and progress. I'm not running to a room clicking things then running back to click on npc. So tedious.

I love this game, don't be fooled by it's MMO title this is not like Rust in the slightest. Quite grindy but every time you grind to get something (big or small) it feels worth it at the end, you make lots of friends.
BEWARE:
There are quite a lot of PVP zones especially near the end of the game
BEWARE 2:
Always check how much power you have in your home/houses sub-fief (sub-fief keeps a shield around it and protects it from sand storm) If the power in your sub-fief run out, your base will be destroyed
BEWARE 3:
For the love of god, do not die to Shai Hulud (the sand worms) because you will lose EVERYTHING
"yay I just grinded for an hour and a half to get my stillsuit... OH hi wormi-" *nom nom noises*
BEWARE 4:
For certain supplies you need throughout the game for suits, vehicles, weapons, house features etc etc. You will have to enter PVE zones to get them. A main component in the game is something called Erythite (I hope I said that right XD) which is found in a big ravine which is full of npc's who will try and kill you.

After 435 hours in the game we hit a bunch of bugs. Nothing ever done with them. The last one was game and time breaking. My co-player and I have little time to spend in games with real life and families and work and such. I went on vacation for 15 days. While i was away mid vacation he logged in to check to check the base and gather some resources. To find out we hit a power bug. Even though the feif said 30 days when we logged out after 5 days (we have screenshots and sent them to funcom) the base, our vehicles and our 2 cargo containers where destroyed to lost power. The harvester was full of spice to be processed and 1 of the cargo containers was also full of spice to be processed. The other cargo container was ourt "base for the desert in a box" storage for easier base building in the dd.

We sent tickets to customer service. They said open a bug report. Opened bug reports, they said nothing else they can do because we opened a bug report. The bug report was never replied to and we have recreated the issue a few times. The feif will show power based on the generator with the most fuel. Not the least. So if you have an inbalance in fuel you could lose power before the "max" generators which the feif doesnt account for....

I ran my sandbike into a quicksand area because I was instructed to move my base north. There was no warning about the quick sand, I just near-instantly died. I had all my loot on my since I was moving and lost all the materials I had spent 18 hours to farm up and like 80k money. Feels like a massive waste of my time, and I don't have the heart or desire to spend another 18 hours farming up the resourced I had in the starting area. I have never, ever played a survival game where you can just lose everything you have without being able to retrieve it. Left a really bad taste in my mouth. Cool game, but that part is wayyy too punishing. I wish that game told me in some way that there is quicksand that will kill you and take all your resources. :(

Dune: Awakening is an open world survival RPG set on Arrakis where you gather resources, build bases, craft vehicles like sandbikes and ornithopters, and work through a long progression path tied to survival, exploration, and faction-style systems. It can be played solo or with others, and a lot of the game is built around learning how to move through the desert without getting eaten, dehydrated, or completely stalled out.

Pros
✔️ It builds well on what Funcom already knew how to do - You can feel the DNA from Conan in here, but it feels more refined instead of just copied over.
✔️ Building is simple and easy to use - It does not take long to get something functional down, which matters a lot in a game where you are going to be rebuilding and expanding often.
✔️ The world feels alive for a desert - Even with all the open sand, Arrakis does not feel dead. There are enough systems, points of interest, and little things happening that it still feels like a real place instead of just empty map space.

Cons
❌ Build variety still feels limited - Even once upgrades start opening up, it still feels like there are only so many directions you can really go with your base.
❌ The early game has a lot of empty travel - Before you get properly set up, there is a lot of crossing space just to get out of that grind phase, and that can wear on you.
❌ The tutorial pushes too hard - If you follow it, it tells you what to do for too long. If you ignore it, you are stuck learning through failure in a game where failure can hit pretty hard. So it ends up feeling useful and annoying at the same time.

Conclusion
It is not the best sandbox I have played, but it is easily up there with the stronger ones. I had a good time with it, and I think it does a lot more right than wrong. It just never quite got to that point where I would put it above the very best in the genre. Still, if someone wants a survival sandbox with a lot to do and a world worth getting lost in, this is an easy one to point to.

Traversing Arrakis hiding from the sun and looking for a few water drops to survive is strangely satisfying. Then you get wheels and as distances and confidence grow, you realize that you've only touched upon a small part of a huge world full of things to do and places to discover. Looking forward to further chapters and the fleshing out of existing content.

If you like the Dune books and Dune universe this game is a must try.

BUT: If you expect to fly an ornithopter in the first couple of hours, you will be disappointed. It takes ages of grinding and grinding like it's minecraft or factorio or something to craft your first flying vehicle. I have 65 hours in it and I still dont have my first ornithopter (well 30 hours or so out of the 65 was just messing with base building but still).

Can be a bit buggy with clipping into the terrain and getting stuck, and the game is grindy as hell. I can only recommend it to people who love Dune. It's obvious that there were people involved in development who share the same love. They should really decrease the amount of repetitive resource gathering chores because I believe more people would play the game that way.

You can still run into other players from time to time but the proximity chat fun nature that Arc Raiders have is kind of missing. Although yesterday some guy game me expensive gifts and I gave him some spice beers so that was fun.

edit: way too much grinding. not fun. it feels like a second job. After more than 60 hours I can say this game is just all about gathering resources for the sake of it. Servers are empty too.

Great atmosphere.
Story clearly written by people who like Dune.
Excellent base building.

Gameplay is perfectly fine. Not super complex and should be approachable to most. It won't impress the most hardcore players though.

Definitely recommend for any fans of the franchise and films.

108 hours in and this game really is not worth playing unless you really like the most recent incarnation of dune.

Lets start with the controls: Despite rebind options, the controls are janky, and mix in unnecessary hold the button down mechanics all over the place. One example of janky is looting, there are three different button combinations to look and none of them feel smooth.

Combat: Its very underwhelming. The combat alternates between knife fights and gunplay, with an emphasis on how to defeat the holtzman shields (which were poorly portrayed in the most recent film, whos interpretation carries over here). Its very annoying, and not really tactical, or exciting. I can not comment on actual pvp, which is usually the focus of these funcom games, because I have not found any other players on the server im on yet.

Tech tree: The game starts you off in copper tech and progresses to iron, then steel, then aluminum, then duraluminium, and one more. Yet, the items you craft at each level are fundamentally just a new iteration of the same item you have at the very beginning of the game and only serve as a way to add a forced grind loop rather than expanding the options for playstyle.

Survival mechanics: The three main survival mechanics they introduce you to in the tutorial and trial quests are sandstorms, water, and the sun. Sandstorms occassionally pass over the map and if you get caught in one, it highly damages you and your vehicle, as well as dehydrating you. There is a tent that you can eventually build to avoid them, but equally you are never in the open desert really anyways (because worms would get you there), so you always have the option of just walking up to some rocks to take shelter to wait it out. Neat premise but totally pointless(which is a theme here). The sun you are taught has the power to kill you with its punishing rays in one of the first trials so you are taught to stay in the shadows at all costs or go by night (neat idea), except they clearly abandoned this idea immediately because there is really no consequence to being in the sun except that you get slightly more thirsty but there are dozens of ways to rehydrate easily enough. Then there is water itself, at first it is a struggle to stay hydrated, but once you're a few hours in the game this immediately becomes a slight annoyance rather than a necessity. As a result, the devs then added water into every crafting recipe (apparently welding some scrap metal together to make some parts for my buggy or ornithopter now requires massive amounts of water?? or smelting metal requires water? This is new on me, and just another way to force an unnecessary grind (but the devs clearly know nothing about minerals or refining processes since the copper nodes are cobalt blue, cobalt comes from pink crystals, and carbon nodes are a ghostly white color rather than black).

Faction Quests: You'd assume that one of the main things to do in dune is join one of the two main houses, and you're right it is a mechanic. However, it really begins to feel like its just a mechanic to force you to grind money through the auction house since you have to pay docking fees to fly back and forth every five minutes to turn in a quest. This docking fee never goes away even once you join the house. The main reward for doing faction quests is grinding out rank to purchase cosmetics. The main cosmetic purchase is available right away which is a faction specific set of building blocks for your base building, which is quite expensive. Don't make my mistake and grind out some cash for it either, because it all requires the high level plasteel to place the blocks rather than the granite that every other set uses. I bought it immediately, because base building is one of the few fun elements here only to find out that i was a few hundred hours of grind away from getting plasteel.

This is just a poor reskin of conan exiles. D-

Lots of hate from when I was originally looking to buy, but I belive now they have fixed quite a few of the original issues. I havn't quite finished yet and experienced much end game where I belive all the issues were expressed however I am absolutely loving the game and its progression so far. Dont usually post on these but I would deffinately recommend giving this a go, especially when on sale. Has been amazing so far!

Déjà que le jeu est fade, avec peu de choses à se mettre sous la dent, les développeurs suppriment à chaque mise à jour des éléments qui conviennent à tout le monde pour les réserver à une poignée de joueurs. C'est le cas de la nouvelle fonction du Landstrad, où les ennemis vous "one-shot" alors que vous portez une armure de "end-game".
Le pire, c'est qu'ils n'ont toujours pas stabilisé les serveurs après plus d'un an, ce qui fait que le jeu supprime des soubassements en construction, votre sous-fief et vos extensions.
Funcom, allez vous faire voir ! C'est une honte de faire un tel jeu avec une licence si mythique, qui a été l'un des piliers de la SF moderne.
Et je ne parle pas du saison pass que j'ai payez, ou on a rien a se mettre sur la dent!!!

Ich werde viel Hate kassieren aber mir gefällt dieses Spiel Überhaupt nicht. Ja es hat eine menge potenzial aber die wohl größte Fehlentscheidung überhaupt ist es das man dazu gezwungen wird Online zu sein und mit anderen Spielern spielen zu müssen, auch auf seinem eigenen Privaten Server. overall NOT a good game and especially not a survival game. Poorly optimized. Poorly balanced with a heavy skew into melee. The developers clearly arent playing their own game to see that it's a grindfest instead of an actual game.

below is by no means a comprehensive list, just my personal pain points in a chaotic manner with no particular order.

- no free/self-hosted private servers
- no 100% private servers
- no character transfer between private and public servers. aka spend few hundred hours on 1 character, only to lose it in the the server wipe by the 3-rd party because they stopped providing the servers (not yet happening, but it is 100% going to happen, because history is repeating itself)
- duping solaris and inflating the economy to billions while legit players can hardly make 2-3 millions in 100 hours (they still didnt fix this, even after 9+ months)
- griefers that can destroy your base even on the PvE map (still having such bugs 9+ months after release is awesome job by fu*com)
- forced PvP to progress the STORY and missions on the PvE map
- basic skills closed behind missions with nonsense descriptions and unclear conditions (500h in and I still didnt unlock all the skills because the missions will be available later?)
- 354 days worth of daily missions (or 1 year worth of weekly if you dont want to complete them daily), just to upgrade you character on the end-game tech tree (specializations) :shrug:. forced to do 5 missions a day or 35 a week, because why would the developer give you the liberty to play the game how you want?
- long rage weapons are 100% useless. even hobos from the starting locations can kill you if you dont run with a knife + shield. the balance is... well... :shrug:
- 70% of the enemies are using shields, making long range weapons even more useless
- 100% accuracy for enemies that are using long-range guns (even machine guns) even at the maximum distance! really? they never miss unless you hide bh obstacles. no recoil, no spread, no sway, 100% on target, B - balance!
- no veto/ban for repeatable missions that you HAVE to grind 5-6 hours a week. no way to choose what missions you want to do for Landsraad (choosing from 3/6 on random, when you hate 4 or 5 out of those 6 because they are BS on BS map with nonsense fetch quest). and you need to complete A LOT of them. grind for the sake of grind and the possibility to buy something from the store if your part of the server grinded enough.
- no way to know where to get the weapons/schematics that you want or need, unless you're willing to use 3-rd party tools like "method gg" or "dune gaming tools". the game itself tells you nothing
- no way to restart a dungeon (testing station) without going to the overland map, then back. waiting 2 loading screens on poorly optimized servers to load, and waiting in a queue if your server isn't "low population" instead of adding a "restart" or "another run" logic :cheffs_kiss:
- poorly designed questing system the locks skills and DLC content that you paid for :) to unlock finish the X quest, where to find it? who knows :)
- overland map in general! at least they made it smaller, but still a huge letdown and additional loading times for the sake of adding complexity instead of adding gameplay.
- the optimization is non-existent (getting 20-30 lows, and 30-50 average FPS on my setup on the settings recommended by the game automatically. which is... oof)

If this were an early alpha release, I'd say it was amazing. The content is good, some of the ideas excellent. The game has its irritating 'features' -- PC construction of bases blocking pathways for new players who lack ornithopters, massively powerful melee NPC combatants that simply stunlock and auto kill you at melee range, hopelessly bad combat if you have any latency or lag spikes, but those aren't insurmountable.

No, the problem is the extraordinary crash-prone state of the game. I've not seen a game that crashes this much since the 1990's, with the likes of Anarchy Online (also a Funcom product) and Everquest. You fight through a very challenging area, go to loot, and your computer hard locks as you're picking up a key. You have to power cycle the machine, you try to logon, you get endless random cryptic errors; by the time the game does permit you back on, the area's repopped and it's basically auto-death to flamethrowers or stunlocking, or both.

Better yet, you can crash while turning, causing you to speed off randomly into the desert where you can be eaten by a worm, losing your vehicle and hours of work, or come back on dying in a radiation zone. Suffice to say, it's an extraordinarily player-hostile game given how much it crashes. Unsurprisingly, the developer is of no real help, just giving you an AI-generated message telling you how to connect to the internet.

If you think you can stand hours of wasted time, and random auto-deaths, then go for it. I bought it while I was recovering from being sick, and it was very entertaining in its way. It's a very good game, just astonishingly badly implemented.

Очень очень плохая оптимизация. Кривая установка после которой лаунчер вообще не работает. Позже оказалось что запускать нужно не кнопкой Играть, а из файла в папке игры с правами администратора. Разработчики спустя столько времени дали игре графику и высокие требования, но не позаботились до сих пор оптимизировать установку и первый запуск, чтобы все элементы работали как часы. Space Marine 2 у меня идёт без проблем, но с Дюной до сих пор проблемы с которыми разработчики справиться не могут. Как такую игру пропустил Steam? Вообще идей никаких!... Почему всё должны допиливать сами пользователи, хотя это не их зона ответственности?

Waited for things to calm down in this game before buying it on sale.

The game beat my low expectations by a fair amount.

Casually playing solo. Just exited starting zone.

Haven't encountered any players but seen a few player-built structures.
Haven't encountered any bugs or hardships, though I've heard many exist.
The dialogue is ok, sometimes. I usually skip all dialogue in most games.
The rest of it - a decent enough mix of activities that neither disappoints nor impresses.

A good-enough game, for me, so far.

Nem sokat játszottam még vele, de nekem nagyon üres már most. Jópofa egyébként, de egyik szikláról a másikra menni már órák óta, nem túl változatos, s a harcrendszer is egyszerű. Ahhoz képest amit tud, szerintem túl van hypeolva, nem kicsit. Egy gyűrűk ura szimulátorban érzem magam.. A konfigom nem a legújabb, de indokolatlanul 20-30 fps közé szorít néha a játék, pedig ez a grafika nem indokolja szerintem, úgyhogy ha régebbi pc-d van, nem ajánlom.
