The game may seem like an overpriced duck shooting game but it has a lot of hidden content and story that you will miss if you play the game once and then never again, for example once you finish the game you will unlock new game+ and if you do not want to keep playing through the same boring shooting you can either do a play an ending that lets you continue and try again or you can play again on easy mode making everything 10x faster to get. In terms of content this game has a story about the length of a feature film that includes seven different unique endings, cool VR graphics, easter eggs, mysterious secrets, 23 achievements to keep you busy for the money you spent, features that can help make getting 100% achievements not feel like so much of a chore, more than 6 different easy and challenging minigames to play on your very own Kingbit Entertainment System™ using the Flash Gun, and some VHS tapes for you to watch. One thing to note is that this game is not for all gamers and some people do not
want to spend their time trying to find secrets and do achievements so if you do not want to do this the game probably wont be worth spending your money on.
This game is an actual masterpiece, there is so much effort and detail put into the things you can interact with, the lore is amazing, and the soundtrack is awesome as well. Last time i checked i think this game is also technically apart of boneworks/bonelab lore as well but i'm not entirely sure. I love how even 8 years later, this game holds up brilliantly with the horror aspect it has. Overall, 11/10 game, shout out to coryxkenshin for introducing me to this peak game.

An interesting game, I recommend it to those just starting out with VR. But it's probably one of the best Masscot horror games I've played so far.

Wow. What a game. It was simple, or it appeared to be, as just a VR Duck Hunt. But oh, it's much more. A murderous dog, a Wizard Book, all wrapped in 1 game! And there's lore in (Ironic name) Stress Level Zero's other games; Boneworks and Bonelab! Plus, there's physics, other playable games, pizza, what else could you ask for?!
It's like duck hunt in VR, lets hope nothing else happens :)

One of my biggest anxiety-causing fears is full masked mascot/character people. This hit that niche. I was afraid. Several endings, and good use of VR. The use of real "found footage" just made it that much more immersive. Great price for the experience and replayability. If you have VR, you gotta get this game!

This is a fun game. On my playthrough I didn't run into much with the horror aspects and somehow ended up at the best ending on my first try.. I was almost disappointed. It was a fun game overall though.
Something I'll note for my experience: The shooting in this game is .. weird. Reloading is weird and I think struggled with that at times, but right when I thought I had the shooting down it would get goofy again.
I wish we had more interactables and ability to move around the environment, but I was definitely thankful for all the mini-games! I love a good in-game video game. Still though, as cool as that was, the ability to walk closer and see some of the pictures would have really been helpful, or more interactions with the mother. I feel there was a lot of room for expansion and I hope one day they make a Duck Season 2.

Se você gosta de platinar jogos, o jogo possui umas conquistas bem bugadas, existe algumas de arremessar coisas que é praticamente impossível (no meu valve index não consegui arremessar nada, os objetos caiam duro no chão). E pra pegar todos os finais, é MUITO repetitivo. Por algum motivo o minigame Battle Bross não estava pulando corretamente.
Se você é casual e vai zerar apenas 1 ou 2 finais, o jogo vai acabar em menos de 1-2 horas.. não vale o preço

It's a fun concept and could have been much more enjoyable.
My four biggest critiques:
1. you cannot re-orient. if the game starts and you are facing a shelf or wall in real life, you are stuck facing that wall. in some cases, you won't be able to play because there is not enough room for your arms to aim, or not enough room to reach and grab things in the living room to start the console. simple fix is to allow camera orientation, like in ~every other VR game to date.
2. Your grip is irrelevant. Racking the shotgun is all about positioning, holding your hands a "realistic" distance apart, and if you move too little or too much, or your hands aren't kept in a straight line apart with your wrists rotated appropriately, then you will just be flailing the weapon around and unable to load or shoot, regardless of how tightly you are squeezing, or what triggers you are holding. if it was for realism, then you wouldn't be able to instantly make shells appear in your hand to load. it's not about realism, it's about having a fun and fair experience. the game would still be challenging, without being frustrating, if you could simply grip the shotgun and not worry about how perfectly your hands are oriented, because it would still sway your aim. simple fix: lock the reloading hand to the gun while the controller is being squeezed, either by finger tracking or trigger press.
3. you cannot restart a level. trying to perfect your score? you will have to return to the living room (load time), sometimes watch unskippable cutscenes, then re-enter the level (load time) and watch the whole dog-dancing spiel before you can try again. simple fix: add a "restart" button in the pause menu. otherwise there are minutes in between attempts, which is unnecessarily punishing. that's time your controllers are dying, you are sweating, perhaps becoming dizzy, or your face is becoming sore from wearing a tight headset. this isn't just having to run for 45 seconds back to the boss arena in a souls game, it's neglectful design.
4. (nitpick, but shows lack of polish when other flaws considered) half of the pixel fonts in the game have linear interpolation (smoothing) on them. it makes them blurry instead of defined and sharp. it looks a bit silly when trying to emulate a 1980s game console, and it looks silly in general when you are trying to deliver a polished product. it is a simple fix, disable the smoothing on the text so it isn't blurry and it looks like actual pixel font. mostly a non-issue, but it's like this game was never tested.
the experience is overly frustrating. besides that, the theme is cool, it's a clever revival of an old game brought into a new medium, cool homage and very meta, the shooting itself is satisfying when you're not out of sync with hand placement, and a lot of care was clearly put into the game. however:
much hard work is lost, for the lack of a little more.
advice (i know stress level zero has made great games after this, but this is a review for duck season):
have people test your game. i guarantee they would have noticed people struggling with the holding/reloading, i guarantee people with different setups would have spawned in an inconvenient real life position, and people would have become frustrated with all the waiting trying to replay a level. also, with your own eyes, could see the blurry pixel font, that makes it look like a game jam game, instead of a nintendo game.

(POTENTIAL SPOILERS)
This game was one of the reasons I wanted a proper PC in the first place, as I always wanted to play this game after watching videos on it, and hearing it was the predecessor to Boneworks and Bonelab intrigued me even more, and after I used the 'Linking your Quest 3 to SteamVR to play PCVR games' method, I finally got to experience this.
So, a few negatives to start with.
- One of the game's achievements is bugged, pitching a ball with the bat into the kitchen does not work, and it hasn't worked for a lot of people. This is annoying for obvious reasons.
- Shooting ducks gets repetitive when you're on your fifth or sixth run, it IS fun, just a little stale by hour 5.
- The fact that the option to jump to any hour you want is locked until you get EVERY ENDING is annoying, having to replay game over the exact same is one of my biggest gripes in video games, and for this game you have to do this SIX TIMES!
However, the positives do outweigh the negatives.
- As i stated before, shooting ducks is fun. Addictingly fun. Shooting ducks so many times in a row without missing one is so cathartic and satisfying, plus the gun's aim is so damn accurate as well.
- The amount of secrets in this game is the best part. Finding every ending by yourself is annoying, so i do recommend a guide after your first ending, but don't spoil yourself on any other secrets of the game, as figuring out how to get the secret eighth ending is the best part of this experience.
- The dog is such a good horror villain, not a narratively deep character, but for what he is, he works. A classic mascot horror slasher killer, and he is especially terrifying in the 'Stuck Forever' and 'Canon' endings, and the moment with him outside the porch window with the camera is iconic.
- The dumb TV ads and VHS tapes are such a joy to watch. The acting in them is so purposefully bad it's good, and they got a good laugh out of me, and there are plenty of other minigames to keep you occupied if you ever feel curious.
So yeah, decent horror game, I wouldn't say it's worth the 20 quid, so wait until it's on sale to pick this up. It also has a flat mode version, so if you don't have VR you can also play this but I'd argue you lose a layer of horror from not being in VR.

It just feels so nice to pump and shot, don't know if any game implement that but only a VR slam firing shotgun could top this.

When I think of a really good VR game, a couple of options come to mind, but my first ever that I discovered was Duck Season. I remember watching CoryxKenshin play it when I was a lot younger, and I was hooked. Even though I was spoiled on the endings of the game, I thought to myself, "One day...one day I'll be able to experience it."
That day wasn't today actually, but I did still play it.
I have discovered that Stress Level Zero loves to make bangers, apparently, cause playing it for myself was even better than I remember. Sure, it was mainly a game where you shoot ducks and get into the lore of a literal killer game with horror aspects to it. However, there was something about being able to pump and load that shotgun for myself, the one gun that had me believing pump-action shotguns were the best when I was a kid.
Now let me actually start talking about how I feel about the game. Duck Season has a very fun gameplay loop, and I love all the little adverts and commercials that come on after you play another level of Duck Season. The world that is your living room is so interactable, and I love how you can play other games than just Duck Season. If I had to name one favorite thing from the living room section, it would definitely be the crappy movie commercials that come on after you play a round, they gave me a good chuckle with how awkward and abrupt they were.
The story is really what catches me on though, an interesting concept that is executed well in the form of seven different endings. Without spoiling it though, if the 'canon ending' really is THE canon ending, that honestly would suck, if I'm being honest. :(
When I was a kid though, the sounds of that shotgun being loaded, pumped back and fired at all those ducks really triggered something in my brain. Those noises to me were so satisfying that it really made me want to experience this for myself. Even today, I still love hopping into the game and firing off that shotgun, really gotta give credit to the sound designers to make something sound so powerful and addicting to play with.
Of course, I do have some mini gripes with the game, like how you can't pump the gun back with one hand, or how your other hand has to be as close to the shotgun as possible or otherwise it'll come off the pump, and things like that. Other than that though, I have nothing but praises to sing to SL0 for making such a fun and interesting game.
With all the content that's in the game, I'd say it's worth the 20$ price tag, and I absolutely recommend this game who wants a fun, but kind of scary VR game in their lives.

Very good story telling and it was really fun to play. I will admit that sometimes it is hard to reload the gun and it makes the shooting kinda annoying but it's nothing to big and I got around it eventually. I recommend and you would get the best experience if you went in blind (without seeing others play it first) because I didn't and it did make the story less surprising (obviously).

NOT A GREAT EXPERIENCE, REFUNDED QUICKLY
To be clear, my expectations for this game were that it would be a fun, high quality arcade duck hunt experience in VR (i.e. in the practice room)... I thought that the inclusion of this fun horror story for the main experience was a great way to justify the development cost of a smooth and good quality duck hunt arcade experience.
I could see myself trying to enjoy the story and potential paths of the main story... but the core duck shooting mechanic is just horrible, at least with quest 3 inside out tracking.
The action success and animation reliability for all core functionality is not good at all and the hunting game play is very unsatisfying.
If there were the option to hold the pump with your off hand rather than keeping "suitable" controller separation this would be less problematic.
My animation for shell loading and for pump action was not suitably indicated for success & shell loading would benefit from trigger hold for continuous summon.
Additionally, within the small explore-able play area, there's no good reason that i cannot use the stick to walk around, seated play feels far too restrictive.

I just got the 7th ending, and I have to say that this is my favorite VR game. Worth the $20 that I spent to play this. If you like horror games in general I recommend playing this.

Отак, випадково натрапляєш на трейлер цієї гри (Duck Season Launch Trailer), і все, вона одразу опиняється в списку бажаного, звісно якщо у вас є VR.
Насправді, детальніше ознайомившись із скріншотами, в мене з'явилися побоювання, що це гра про "мацання предметів", яких засилля для Віртуальної Реальності, але високі оцінки - залишали надію.
Отож, грав на високій складності, використовуючи HTC Vive першої версії.
Граємо ми хлопчиною шкільного віку, десь у 80-х роках в Штатах. Мати приходить додому, і на радість малому приносить йому гру "Duck Season". Попередивши, що це оренда лише на один день, вона бажає йому отримати максимальне задоволення.
Тож, ми сидимо на килимі у вітальні перед телевізором, до якого підключено VHS відак, та наша приставка - явно схожа на NES. Довкола нас валяються іграшки, відеокасети, картриджі, глянцеві журнали, книжки... але звісно, першочергово ми вставляємо картридж із новою грою, беремо світловий пістолет до приставки, і починаємо грати.
Власне, ось ця гра - "Duck Season" (що в середині нашої гри), явно натякає на легендарну "Duck Hunt" для NES. Та коли ми в неї граємо, то робимо це не від лиця того хлопця, а керуючи саме персонажем в середині гри, в середині гри. Ну і бачимо ми не піксельну графіку, а доволі якісний собі 3D. Більше того, якщо ми озирнемося назад, то побачимо, що в нас за спиною екран телевізора із середини, а по той бік скла знаходиться саме хлопак, який і грає в цю гру.
Що до геймплею, в цій частині гри, то ми маємо відстрілювати певну кількість качок, щоб пройти в наступний раунд. По три раунди на один рівень. Після завершення рівня ми повертаємося в кімнату в ролі хлопця. Для деяких рівнів замість стандартних 3-х раундів, дають лише два раунди але із специфічним завданням: вбити 5-ть качок за 15-ть секунд, не дати 10-м качкам пролетіти повз тебе, підстрелити 15-ть качок до того як 3-ти втечуть...
Наш дробовик приймає 4-и набої + 1 у стволі. Дробовик прикріплено до правої руки (можна змінити в опціях), лівою рукою ми хапаємо набої (достатньо просто натиснути гачок на контролері і набій сам прилетить в руку), заряджаємо його в зброю, ну і після кожного пострілу треба пересмикувати затвор. Прицільна стрільба (цілячись правим оком) - працює чудово.
Звісно тут також присутній і Пес, проте на геймлей він ніяк не впливає. По ньому можна стріляти, але він безсмертний і просто пожурить тебе пальцем. От що погано, так це те що Пес не сміється із гравця, коли той програє, як це було в справжній "Duck Hunt".
Знаходячись в кімнаті в ролі хлопака, до того як ми запустимо наступний раунд гри "Duck Season", нам все-таки пропонують "мацання предметів". Але тут це зроблено достатньо цікаво, хоч ми й не можемо рухатися по всій кімнаті, обмежені тільки розмірами ігрової зони VR в реальності.
В першу чергу, все що знаходиться довкола нас, просто таки просякнуто вісімдесятими. До того ж, відеокасети мають не тільки наклейки із доволі кумедними, часто пародійними, назвами фільмів, але їх також можна кидати в відик і дивитися. Звісно там лише коротенькі відосики, але є дуже прикольні: "Kazoo Kid" - особливо офігезний, я майже кожен раз перед виходом з гри переглядав, просто неможливо не підтанцьовувати...
Так само і з картриджами до нашої приставки, їх можна вставляти замість "Duck Season" і грати. Проте вони вже граються саме в ролі хлопця перед екраном телевізора, і керування в них усіх - пістолетом. Десь половина цих ігор також пародіюють реальні: "Battle Bros." (Super Mario Bros.), "Pizzaboy" (Paperboy), "Sinatra" (Contra), "Final Fiesta II" (Final Fantasy II). Звісно це коротенькі міні ігри, є серед них і дуже простенькі, є й відчутно складніші.
Так ми і проводимо час. Іноді мати в вітальні щось робить, іноді навіть звертається до нас. Та в якийсь момент, закінчивши черговий раунд "Duck Season" й повернувшись до ролі хлопця, ми помічаємо на екрані телевізора... себе... стоячого перед телевізором... Зробивши декілька рухів, стає очевидним, що це пряма трансляція. Зрозумівши по відео звідки ведеться зйомка ми повертаємо голову в той бік... і в поле нашого зору потрапляє......... залишу це на ваш власний досвід.
І так, якщо ви дивилися вищезгаданий трейлер, то не стане несподіванкою, що ця гра ще й горор. Але чого я не очікував, так це те, що вона ще й трохи "The Stanley Parable". Бо пройшовши її один раз, стають можливими певні варіації в діях гравця при пере-проходженні.
Закінчень тут 7-м, що гра не приховує, конкретно показуючи скільки закінчень з семи ти отримав. Так от, ці закінчення здебільшого взаємовиключні, і приводять до абсолютно різних пояснень того, що взагалі відбувається.
В деяких закінченнях навіть присутній бос, і багатофазовий бій із ним.
З власного досвіду: знайшов і переглянув всі VHS касети, пройшов всі міні-ігри для приставки, самостійно дістався 5-ти закінчень. Вже потім підглянувши, як отримати останні два, виявилося що 7-е закінчення відкривається тільки після здобуття всіх 6-ти попередніх, а от те 6-е (яке я пропустив) - здобувається доволі упоротим шляхом... хоча є вірогідність, випадково зробити необхідну дію.
Єдина претензія, яку я можу пред'явити, це те що в хлопака, яким ми граємо, купа родимок на руках... чомусь мене це напружувало.
"Duck Season" (не всередині-ігрова, а ЦЯ, яку я коментую), за перші два проходження, видає просто неймовірні емоції, але далі вже попускається, і коли починаєш спеціально шукати приховані закінчення, то це вже не так приємно. Проте не так щоб це прям геть зіпсувало враження, тож я приєднуюсь до тих хто позитивно оцінив цю гру.
О і ще, як виявилося в Steam є така собі "Duck Season PC", це десктоп версія, що не потребує VR. Тут можу лише припускати, але гадаю що в такому форматі буде втрачена дуже важлива частина досвіду (яка реалізована саме в VR компоненті).

Alright, so Duck Season is that game where you think you’re reliving your childhood memories of playing those classic light-gun games from the ‘90s... but instead, you’re actually in a fever dream full of creepy animatronics, weird puzzles, and the sudden realization that your childhood was a lot more disturbing than you remember.
Gameplay:
You start off all innocent, shooting ducks, feeling like a nostalgic champ, then BOOM – everything goes wrong. Suddenly, you're stuck in a house with something far scarier than ducks: the unknown. As you shoot ducks, the game slowly unravels into a terrifying psychological horror experience. Oh, and there’s a creepy dog that’s just... lurking. I mean, I thought he was a friend? Nope, not today.
You’re still trying to shoot ducks, but now there are strange things happening around you. Like, why is the TV talking to me? Why is there an animatronic dog in my living room? Why do I feel like I’ve entered an alternate reality where nothing makes sense and I should’ve just stuck with Duck Hunt on the NES?
The “Oh, I Should’ve Stayed In Bed” Factor:
This game starts out cute, and then suddenly, you're questioning every decision you've ever made. One minute you’re chilling with a light gun, and the next minute you’re hiding under the table from something far worse than a plastic duck. It’s a nice combination of nostalgia and anxiety.
Graphics:
The graphics are awesome, especially for a retro-inspired game, and they nail that '80s/90s vibe. But the more you play, the more you realize the crisp realism of the surroundings only makes the weirdness of the whole situation even worse. You just keep thinking, “This should be fun... but it’s not. It’s just weird.”
Final Thoughts:
Duck Season is Duck Hunt on steroids... and haunted by every forgotten childhood nightmare you didn’t know you had. If you want to relive your ‘80s childhood, but with a side of existential dread, then strap in. It’s a nostalgic ride that turns your innocent shooting game into something much darker and much weirder.
Would I recommend it? Sure, if you want to dive into a game that starts off with simple fun, and then slowly drags you into a world where ducks are the least of your problems.

Really fun and thrilling in VR
I first played this game around the time it came out. At the time, this was pretty amazing, and it actually felt scary. Was looking at my library and saw I only had an hour in it. Decided to play it again. While it's still fun, I felt it's age. The controls just don't feel great. The second hand on the shotgun isn't grip, it's just proximity, so my hand would frequently come off the grip. Definitely didn't pump it correctly many times, and became frustrated.
It's also pretty short. I know there are seven endings, and I got a few, but then was done with it. The duck shooting part got old quick, but I'm glad I replayed it. If I were buying this in 2025 and beyond, I wouldn't pick it up unless it was on a big sale. But if you dive in and get all the endings, I'm sure you'd get your money's worth regardless. I'm good on replaying all those duck hunt levels.
What was a very thought provoking concept failed due to a combination of extreme bugs and failure to capitalize on it's already repetitive ideas.
For one, the bugs. The following five things plagued my gaming experience, on an Oculus Quest 3S, with a GTX 1080 running through a link cable (which could be a factor).
1) The game would constantly crash, exclusively in loading screens. Upon checking other negative reviews and reading discussion forums, this seems to be a very common occurrence for many players. I think I had at least 20 clashes in my 6 hours of playing, which was really closer to 7 or 8 because of the amount of time I spent rebooting.
2) When the game wouldn't crash, it would often freeze on loading screens. The game would run in the background, and I could hear the audio and interact with things, but the visuals were completely frozen and I would have to restart the game.
3) The developers tied some of the physics to the frame rate, specifically one of the mini games, which seems to be virtually impossible to beat if you don't mess with your device's refresh rate.
4) The throwing mechanics are extremely wonky, which could also be tied to the frame rate.
5) This one also seems to be a common bug, but in my experience the hand that pumps the gun refused to work unless you go to the settings and switch from right hand mode to left, or vice versa, and then switch back.
And yet, through all the bugs I pushed on, and the gaming experience I was met with was fun but failed in it's game design on two fronts.
1) The game is extremely repetitive. It is a game that hides lore behind 7 different endings, and I don't even necessarily dislike the endings, but having to replay 8 nights of the same duck shooting game, although fun at first, gets extremely repetitive after you've done it well over 50 times. I don't understand why the developers didn't let you load halfway through the game when your choices end up affecting the story. This makes 100% completion a complete chore for no real reason.
2) Overall, I'm disappointing with the way the game handles it's (light spoilers): [spoiler]horror elements[/spoiler]. Heavy spoilers: [spoiler]The idea at the end of the game, where you fight the dog in the real world, is a very interesting concept, and one that I found upsettingly disappointing. The game mixes "in-game" and "real-world" elements, a very interesting concept that could have had the player fending off the dog from attacking their home. Instead, in two of the endings, you watch the dog walk around your house, and then shoot him as he charges at you with a knife. What could have been a very tense section of keeping him away repeatedly was extremely abrupt, and scary for all of 30 seconds. And outside of some ambiance throughout, that's it for the horror![/spoiler]
Overall, if you could guarantee this game will run flawlessly on your system, I would say it's probably worth it on a sale, as the core gameplay loop is fun for one playthrough. However, fighting against the game to allow you to even play it, only to be met with a repetitive experience that ends on a low note, makes Duck Season not worth playing.
Yes this is what I like about VR. To take me into a different reality. I remember a lot of the toys in here, like the big yellow fisher price flash light, the action figured that shoot little red missiles, stuff like that, the adult doing boring nonsensical adult stuff. It's and early vr game too, that's cool its so well done.
The game stopped lagging yay! but in all seriousness, the game is fun without lag. I very much recommend this game if you have a good pc with a lot of space on the hard drive.
