I purchased this hoping for an RPG similar to Morrowind, and I was initially disappointed in the first 3 hours of the game because of the basic gameplay mechanics. The writing, however, got me hooked.

The world building and dialogue is just so good, and I found that I actually cared about the main characters towards the end of the game.

Each area feels very different, and nearly every side quest had a really engaging story or premise that allowed for prolonged pondering on choices, especially when you have to choose a side and are given plot and moral based pros and cons on those choices. Some of the later quests I actually was stuck for a while on what to choose, and for the main plot I kept flip-flopping between being a law abiding inquisitor and wanting to risk everything for even a slim chance of trying to save everyone.

I really liked that some of the characters and dialogue are also just there to be silly and lighthearted. I hope this game inspires some people to get their own moth tattoo.

I'm glad I gave this one a chance past the early game, as it turns out to be one of my favourite in a long time.

An interesting game. The first person combat is simple and gets tiresome after a while, so at some point I just maxed out my agility and used a speed boost spell to zip past the enemies. However, the story was interesting enough for me to finish the game. There's a lot of moral dilemmas where you're forced to think things through prior to making a choice with a high likelihood of being disturbing. For exploration, there are a lot of hidden areas to explore, but there's a very limited variety of items and upgrades, so it gets kind of boring after a while. I do recommend the game, but not to completionists or people who only care about gameplay/combat. If you play this game, play it for the story.

I love this game so much. The world design, npcs and story are all very unique and have a nice almost Morrowind aesthetic. My few complaints would be lack of gear\build diversity. Possibly a bit more touching up on combat as well, but other than those minor complaints it's a very enjoyable game would absolutely recommend.

What an incredibly beautiful and inspiring game!

I bought it back when the Endless Realm wasn't a thing, and I played it until I discovered the placeholder assets for the Clockwork Kingdom, a few years have passed since then!

There isn't much to say other than the writing is amazing, the characters are extremely lovable and I'm so sad it is over, the only suggestion I can make is to add a NG+ option, but at this point I doubt we will ever get it, still, I plan on replaying the game again!

I completed the game for the first time while doing a completely pacifist run and despite not engaging with the combat AT ALL, the exploration, characters and story were enough to keep me hooked, I really enjoyed my time with it.

Dread Delulus is a must play, it is a shinning gem, I only wish there was more.

Brilliant game with a few minor letdowns.

I think it works to describe the game as having the compelling lore style of Morrowind combined with the linearity and story pacing of Zelda Ocarina of Time (or King's Quest Mask of Eternity if you're familiar), yet it succeeds in feeling unique from both. Exploring is plentiful and interesting, and the writing is fantastic.

I think the biggest issue with the game is the pace of character progression. It's a slow crawl in the beginning, slightly faster in the middle, and an absolute deluge at the end. I got so many special items and upgrades in the last few hours of the game that would have been fun to use earlier in the game. The other issues I have with the game could have been greatly alleviated by addressing this: combat would get less repetitive with sooner access to some of the interesting spells, weapons, and powerups from the endgame, and travel would be less of a slog with some of the speed enhancements you only find in the final levels.

昼夜ピンク色に染まった空からしてパッと見渡しただけでも正気とは思えない世界ですが、そこに住む人たちが全く話が通じない訳ではなく普通のRPGのように会話や質問に受け答えしてくれたのは良い意味で裏切られました

筋力俊敏力知力社交力へのスキル振り
鍵の扉や魔法の仕掛けを解きながらの探索
各地に点在し結末が分岐するクエスト
などオープンワールド系にあるものは要素を削ぎ落としつつも一通り抑えてありなかなか歯応えがあります

戦闘は

投げナイフや魔法で遠距離攻撃
背後からステルスアタック
などこちらの工夫次第で色々な戦い方ができます
ただ、敵からは基本消耗品しかドロップせず経験値の概念もないためだんだんスルー安定になってくるのが残念かも...
難易度変更もありますが、ハードは敵が硬くなり痛くなるだけなのでノーマルでさくさく進めるのが良いと思います

日本語非対応と理解した上で翻訳アプリ片手にプレイしていました
しかしどちらかと言うとストーリーや世界観に重きを置いた作品だと感じましたし、ローカライズされていないのは勿体無いと思うばかりです

This game is genuinely fantastic.
The gameplay is quite simplistic and the combat is primitive, but not un-fun. Its strength really lies in its writing and quests. The characters feel very real and sincere, and the world itself is incredibly compelling. The team did a remarkable job at making each region distinct and unique and interesting in its own right. The visual language of lore, factions and regions is very clear.
The soundtrack is fantastic. The progression is compelling. The world is fun to explore. There was always more to this game even after I thought I'd seen its last trick.
This isn't a game as complicated as Elder Scrolls or Fallout, but it clearly takes a lot of its design cues from early bethesda games and executes it exceptionally well.
Great world to get lost in. Fun to explore. I found myself deeply immersed and invested in the world in a way I haven't been with a game in ages.

Excellent experience so far. Agree with other reviews that say the combat is simple, but that's really not the point of this game. This is a game about exploration and storytelling, and it is wildly successful on both of these fronts. Incredible writing, haunting sound design, and fantastic exploration. I love the visuals personally, but agree they could be divisive. The UI can be difficult to navigate, especially with gamepad controls.

A superb medium-sized open world RPG. I thoroughly enjoyed it and strongly recommend it.

Don't be dissuaded by the clunky (and, frankly, off-putting) name and antiquated graphics, as it's all a deliberate homage to the PlayStation 1 and the golden age of 3D RPGs.

Indeed, [i]Dread Delusion[/i] is probably most similar in feel to [i]The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind[/i], as it also takes place in a somewhat left-field fantasy world. In many ways, I enjoyed it more than [i]Morrowind[/i]. Yeah, you heard that right! Blaspheme! While nowhere as big and complex a game, the world of [i]Dread Delusion[/i] is more compelling, mature, and morally challenging than that of [i]The Elder Scrolls[/i]. Where most fantasy fare is predicable and boring, here I was constantly and delightfully surprised. The storylines and characters all have something to rattle you with, and the environment itself has deep tales to tell.

Gameplay is on the whole good, taking place in several diverse regions with quests, puzzles, and many secrets. The primary focus is on a lot of very rewarding exploration. For much of the game you will have neither a map nor a compass and it will be up to you to navigate the complex vertically-layered geography. But don't fret, just pick a direction and go and you'll likely find something interesting and useful.

The familiar RPG game systems are all here: attributes and upgrades, melee and ranged combat, magic, armor, potions, and even factions. They're functional but too simple. Combat is especially superficial. In fact, anybody with some experience in this genre would find it trivial. I played on normal difficulty and quickly understood that my skills and equipment don't matter because any enemy attack could be easily dodged. This realization held all the way through the bosses and up to the end game. But I wasn't too disappointed. This game's focus is obviously on exploration and storytelling.

If I must raise another complaint, it's about the graphics. I'm very cool with the low-res nostalgia and think it looks beautiful and comforting. However, it's not always very functional. The lack of shadows makes it hard to estimate distances. Basically, everything far away resolves into a mess of monochrome silhouettes. They even replicated the PS1's texture wobbliness, which is plain annoying. I did not miss that. The music, too, is kinda meh. It's quite boring and there's just not much variation.

I'm nitpicking. [i]Dread Delusion[/i] is an instant classic and a must-play for open world RPG fans.

TL:DR I’d only recommend it if you like the graphics and want to turn your brain off and explore, otherwise its not worth more than 10$.

Long mode

I put in 80+ hours exploring everywhere and doing as many quests as I can stand think I may have missed 1. I sided with the union and fought off the gods and wikkcan.

For me a gamer of 40+ years its a 6 out 10(I give the same score to Breath of the wild, since its more walking sim than game), but really it’s decent enough bugs and warts and all. But I feel your not given enough story options Making your choices black and white in a one dimensional way. The ending to banish the eldritch being, was not bad. I almost want to give it a 7, but a 7 is more polished like most of the dark souls games.(I have a need, the need for cheese! Cheeseing in formsoft games is so good!)

Game kinda feels like a demo, while theres a lot to explore theres not a lot of gear and weapons and spells and alchemy, arrows are chore to get.

In a way, reminds me of skyrim, a game with huge potential that fell very short, from rushed and lacking stories and lacking equipment and spells.

All in all not bad for 10$, but more than that the flaws in story and gear and stuff just gets to you. Really if you could make more potions like a might potion and the vendors had better randomized stock, and your potions sold for more than the component price(sell prices are bad have to grind for arrows and stuff), it would not be so bad. But as a kind of walking sim action RPG its not the worst I have played.

If your looking for a kinda big game to turn brain off and explore, its not so bad.

There's a lot to like about this game. It has interesting writing. The art style is both beautiful, and a fun callback to a former era of gaming. The quests are genuinely affecting.

Unfortunately this doesn't make up for the fact that the game long overstays its welcome. I suspect that a major part of this has to do with how large the game world is compared to how much content it has, and how much traveling this necessitates. It lacks the rich folliage of a game like skyrim, or a robust enough fast travel system (though one does exist) to negate this issue. Additionally, you'll find that you've dramatically overcome the power curve about 1/3rd of the way into the game. This leads to a honeymoon period where you feel like you've overcome the challenge; however this makes the travel, which was engaging and intimidating at first, a meaningful drag.

I think you should still buy this game. I'm glad I did. I think it's important to support indie developers, especially ones who put in such thoughtful writing. It's just not a game I can bring myself to finish.

I have almost nothing but complaints when anyone asks me about this game - BUT SOMEHOW IT'S THE MOST FUN I'VE HAD I YEARS. I get so frustrated - by the clunky interface, by the constant glitches, by the graphics so wonky I continually fail to notice things I'm actively looking for when standing right next to them - but I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ enchanted.

It's like if you described Morrowind and Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard to someone who'd never played a computer game, and they decided they'd make one too, but they had no money or know-how, so half of the result is a puppet show and the puppets are REALLY nice.

You should play it.

It's on auto pilot and it works with the roll of a dice. That's so stupid and mind you lockpicks pics are limited.

Dread Delusion is a first-person open world RPG wherein you take on the role of a prisoner forcibly conscripted into service by a regional power and sent on your way to probably die, for all they care. The game takes place in the otherworldly Oneiric Isles, a series of landmasses floating above a world devastated by a dimly remembered, but still quite feared, ancient cataclysm. Your adventure will take you all over these wonderful and terrible islands which are full of secrets, monsters, treasure, and quest-giving NPCs!

Dread Delusion got its hooks in me almost immediately due to its stellar combination of worldbuilding and dreamlike visuals reminiscent of the bygone PlayStation 1 or Sega Saturn days. I found the world of Dread Delusion compelling. So much so that I’d actually read the lore books scattered around just so I could learn more. The low fidelity visual presentation and haunting, melancholic soundtrack further immersed me in my quest to help the desperate NPCs struggling to survive on the outskirts of civilization.

Speaking of the NPCs, I think the writing in Dread Delusion is quite good. You know how some games have a ton of NPCs, but you know it’s safe to run past them since they’ll say the same thing the last guy said? That’s not really the case here. The vast majority of NPCs had unique dialogue and I found myself talking to most of them at least once, if for no other reason than to make sure they didn’t have any quests. Apart from the main questline, each area, of which there are four, has a handful of multi-stage side quests to complete. Even though there aren’t very many of them, I found that each was a worthwhile short story. Many of them ultimately culminated in having to make a decision which, in most cases, I could see myself really picking either option as both sides had good arguments.

There are things in Dread Delusion that could be negatives to some. In normal mode, the game is very easy. I died once in my entire 32 hour playthrough and that was because I missed a jump and fell to my death. I rarely felt challenged in combat, with most enemies easily dispatched with a heavy dose of backstabbing (if I could) or poking and retreating. Combat, in general, is probably the weakest part of the game. It can be slow and clunky, you can parry attacks (which I did a total of one time) but it never feels necessary, spells and ranged attacks can be hard to aim, and, as mentioned, the enemies are hardly a threat.

Also, there’s a system of stats and skills that determine your ability to deal damage, convince/barter with NPCs, run faster, jump higher, etc. However, increasing a stat never really felt meaningful, with most of your power/skill enhancements coming from the weapons, armor, rings, and trinkets at your disposal. Be aware that killing enemies doesn’t provide experience points, either. Rather, you find and collect delusions (represented by floating, glowing skulls) to take steps towards leveling up. Completing quests also gives you delusions.

There are these and other rudimentary systems (like crafting or furnishing houses) that, in all honesty, are quite bare bones. What I don’t know is if this was intentional or not. If Dread Delusion had the graphics of a cutting edge title you might expect things like talent/tech trees to customize your character or complex combat mechanics. But, given its presentation, I wonder if it was a deliberate choice to make you feel like you’re playing an older game from 20+ years ago.

Gameplay-wise, the star of the show is the exploration. The draw distance is far, so there’s always something to pique your interest on the horizon. In fact, having to choose where to go first when stepping into a new zone can almost be overwhelming. You’ll want to be scouring every nook and cranny for the aforementioned delusions and, frankly, it’s a delight to do so. There were many times when I shook my head in disbelief at the staggering amount of places to go, puzzles to crack, and sights to behold.

It might seem like I’m down on Dread Delusion with my criticisms, but I’m very much not. I mainlined this game from start to finish and felt very positive about it almost the entire time. The world is unique, the visuals are beautifully retro, the writing is good to great at times, and the exploration is top-notch. Overall, I recommend Dread Delusion, especially if you’re into alien landscapes or finding more and more and more and more stuff.

Didn't bother reading any of the other reviews - I got this game soley on the graphics/vibes, and the store description.

I am loving this game. It takes me back to an era where I gamed on a Pentium III processor, except its the exact vibes/atmosphere that I grew to love as I aged. It's incredibly strange and wild... but what I am finding is that I LOVE the LORE for this game... I think its a very interesting world.

Exploring is FUN - there's stuff every where and there's not a single uninteresting thing to look at. With no depth-of-field you can see so much, its almost overwhelming. It's pretty easy to get lost and you keep seeing things and go "ooo I wanna go there.. and there... and what's over there?" I have to knuckle down and do my best to stick to the main quests for the most part.

So far the combat hasn't been super challenging for me, but as a magic build I am mostly picking things off from afar and finishing them off with a single sword swipe. I like that it took me a while to even get my first weapon upgrade, and hours in before I found a single piece of armor. Hopefully it'll get harder as I go!

what an experience. one of the most conflicting games i've played in a long time, full of jank, unimpressive game design choices, facsimiles of mechanics from other games, but i still kept coming back. the world is just so impressive, there is so much thought and soul put into it, good ideas put into words and such good characterisation of the people and the environments you explore.

my favourite is definitely the clockwork kingdom, it subverts your expectations in interesting ways and plays with very timely and well written concepts.

it is definitely a rough game, but there is a very interesting and immersive experience here if you give it a good fighting chance i hope all the best for the developers and their future projects.

Итак! Мы, в роли "добровольного" помощника инквизиции исследуем конгломерацию летающих островов в поисках лидера наемников, который слишком многое узнал.
Игра - полуоткрытый мир, в котором мы вольны делать многое. Писать доносы, воровать, устраивать кровавые жертвоприношения, растить фрукты, растить селян на фрукты... В общем, многое... с уклоном в дарк фентези. Боевка - посредственная, паркур - тоже. Пазлы простые... Но все вместе, сдобренное абсолютным отсутствием подсказок, маркеров и прочего позволяет ощущать себя реальным первооткрывателем. А сколько ностальгии от реальных квестов - не от классической "иди на маркер, там что-то будет", а от "на севере есть озеро, я в тумане брел от него и наткнулся на дом, кольцо я там спрятал, когда ночевал". И вот купи компас, найди озеро, прикинь маршрут, выбери заброшенный дом, а в нем - найди тайник, поняв где спал рассказчик! Кайф!

Крайне рекомендую фанатам сюжетно-лорных приключений с условной боевкой.

A fairly fascinating world stuck in a very bad game.

Very disappointed how much many aspects of this game are just bad, shallow, not thought through to create a symphony of halfbacked mechanics that are as unsastisfying as they are easy.
The enemies are playing King's Field while you are jumping around like Doomguy.
The lack of shadows and lightning make the one good thing about this game, the world you explore, look flat and way more boring than it should be.
Stats lock you out of content in the early hours and then just do not matter at all down the line.
Can't even properly enjoy the movement speed you do get with Agi+equip because jumping while running will make you gets tuck at any wall and tiny roc, you need to jump from standstill and then boost dash through the air for distance. Not like it is ever used for any cool platform sections or puzzles beyond a tiny handful of places.

If you are expecting good gameplay, you will be sorely disappointed. The game's mechanics are very basic, the exploration is middling (especially in the first half) and everything seems overly simplified at first.

But all of this is just a vehicle for the real content of the game - its fantastic worldbuilding and a story full of difficult, morally ambivalent choices. In this area, it can easily rival Planescape Torment and other crpg all-time greats. And that alone makes it worth playing.

Absolutely bombastic exploration-focused game. Honestly never expected the sheer amount and diversity of content this game has from the initial impression it leaves. Highly recommend pushing through the tutorial zone to see how much the world opens up.

Now, some other reviews make completely valid points about other lacking parts of the game such as combat and rpg elements. If these are extremely important to you, you might not have as good of a time as others.

However if you are the kind of gamer who checks every dungeon corner and behind every rock in the forest, and loves exploration, unusual sci-fi/fantasy mixing settings, variety of visual themes, factions, and quest dilemmas, then this game is absolutely down your avenue.

[THAT IS NOT MORROWIND. I DON'T KNOW WHO SAID THAT THIS GAME IS MORROWIND BUT IT IS NOT]. That game is Sunless Sea strongly inspired by Alice McGee.

Look. That was a big review and I updated it more than twice. It was always negative, but this time I try to make it short and stop caring about gameplay, ok? Just praised writing. And a little about gameplay in the end.

No spoilers, just my rant.

Main story is bad. It is bad as much as you can imagine and then little extra. I think the worst parts of the game are where you must endure main story and main story characters. Characters in general are atrocious, but main story ones are insufferable and you SUPPOSE to care about them and like them. Worst experience from the game is exploration that suddenly leads you to one of the story points where you must endure the lectures of morality, boring, boring, boring characters backstories and no, you can't just tell them to shut the ♥♥♥♥ up. You have a choice of claping, clapping harder or clapping vigorously. My god.

All choices you make in any zone substories are gray morality ♥♥♥♥ in the worst way possible. I can't explain how this trope is still used, but again, not the main story line kind of bad and if that were the main focus of the game, it would an easy recommend.

Exploration and different zones makes all come worth it, more or less. If you liked a Sunless Sea, this game is worth to play. You travel, see some chtonic ♥♥♥♥, vibe with the environment, getting melancholic fun. Just forget about morrowind comparison, ffs.

Gameplay sucks in all except exploration. Best strategy is to run between enemies. Lockpicks are limited carry and lockpicking is diceroll but game has golden (nat6 required) locks at 70% of doors in some zones. Most of the usable items are trash, 3/4 stats are just opening different doors, 1/4 is combat oriented but at practice just opens the rare doors. Combat is almost worse than main story. I hate lifts now.

I want to recommend to experience this game, truly. I can't. I just got airship (much later than you could thought) as a reward for long main story sequence and I hate it all so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ much that I really not sure if I want to endure this until the end.

I saw giant mushrooms and thought Morrowind.

Dread Delusions was a short & sweet game, the story was quite interesting alongside the world itself. I may return & play hardcore (and also get all achievements) cause it'd provide a challenge to the player instead of simply bulldozing through everything.

Atmosphere, Music, & everything else are the strong suites. The *only* thing I didn't enjoy was the choice you make at the end.
Clockwork City's area & quests were my favorite aside from the mid game area.

If you want a short & concise RPG, play this and you'll enjoy it.

Game seemed like something I'd really like, but it didn't click with me. I was gonna try and finish it but gave up after like 8 hours. Gameplay is too boring and it's given me nothing to care about besides how interesting the environment sometimes looks. I paid like 5 bucks for it and feel like I'd rather spent that money on almost anything else.

The atmosphere and setting was pretty interesting to look at / hear; but that's about all it has going. The gameplay is boring, and the exploration wasn't fun. It was annoying trying to do quests too, because the map is a bit hard to use. Also, having to pull up a compass during travel (hope you like walking!) was very annoying. In certain games, the immersion of using a compass and map works, but I felt it didn't work at all here. It was a drag.

Наткнулся на игру через YouTube — называли hidden gem, решил проверить. Ожидал просто нормальную инди-RPG… а получил один из самых необычных миров за последние годы.

Главный кайф — сеттинг и нарратив.
Это не очередное фэнтези с орками и эльфами, а реально другой мир со своими законами. Летающие острова, меняющиеся границы, квесты, которые напрямую вытекают из устройства мира (например, рисование карты, потому что старые уже неактуальны). В какой-то момент ты начинаешь верить, что всё это реально существует.

Квесты здесь нельзя просто вытащить и вставить в другую игру — они завязаны на лор. И это редкость.

Небольшие элементы повестки всё же есть:
сильные персонажи чаще женщины
присутствуют ЛГБТ-персонажи
поднимается тема смены пола
Но (и это важно) — всё это органично встроено в лор, а не вставлено ради галочки.
Пример:
в одном регионе правит механический король (по сути нейросеть)
его способность — изменять людей
сюжетная линия со сменой пола логично вписывается в эту механику
при этом раскрывается и тёмная сторона таких изменений. В итоге это не выбивает из атмосферы, а даже дополняет её.

Теперь к минусам:

— Боевка почти никакая: удар → отход → повторить
— Отсюда вытекает что и рпгшное билдостроение здесь хоть и есть, но оно примитивное и особо не нужно
— ИИ слабый, драться не особо интересно
— Музыка классная, но ее мало, быстро уходит в репит
— Саунд-дизайн местами кривой
— Иногда встречаются неприятные баги

Но при этом:

Исследовать мир — реально интересно
Контента много (я провёл ~50 часов)
И всё это сделал один человек, что вообще безумие

В итоге игра держится чисто на атмосфере, мире и исследовании.
Если ты ок с тем, что геймплей тут на втором плане — тебе зайдёт.

Кому брать:
✔ любителям необычных миров
✔ тем, кто играет ради атмосферы и истории

Кому мимо:
✖ если хочешь нормальную боевую систему
✖ если ждёшь AAA-полировку

Итог:
7/10 — очень сильная идея и мир, но не хватает проработки в механиках.
С бюджетом и доработкой это могла бы быть топовая RPG.

Really enjoying this game so far. There's some reviews claiming its not an RPG, is shallow, etc. as well as a bunch of numpties in the discussions claiming the game is woke and bad because of that... Idk how any of those statements make any sense to anyone lol. It feels very much like a classic RPG heavily inspired by games like Morrowind and I haven't seen anything particularly "woke" at all (not that it would even matter to me if I did lol). What I have seen is a lot of very interesting worldbuilding, cool quests and storylines, and an utterly unique world that pulls you in. Combat is a bit simplistic - again like the classic RPGs that its inspired by - and compared to some modern games it might come across a little simple in its mechanics, but honestly, if that's what it takes to get an interesting set of stories in a world that actually feels like someone cares about it - then that's an okay trade to me.

I cant really reccomend this game, it feels like it would have worked much better as a linear point and click adventure over a 3D open world style RPG, it has some very interesting world building and potential for stories but a lot of it fails at execution or becomes quite generic and predictable. When paired with an extremely basic gameplay that feels empty it results in a game that is purely carried by the narrative that has it's ups and downs and interesting visuals, with the most boring combat i have ever experienced that quickly becomes too easy resulting in just making the game a walking sim with exploration barely being rewarded as the stats increase and items wont matter other than move speed spell

I didn’t know what I expected. Coming from games like Lunacid, I thought I would experience a gameplay-heavy, old-school looking RPG. But what I got instead was a narrative-driven journey through a weird and fantastic landscape. Yes, you fight, explore, upgrade items, and improve the rooms in your house. Yet the real value lies in the stories themselves and in how they are told. There are many RPGs that go for the old-school vibe, and some of them may summon memories of evenings in the early 2000s in front of a Windows Vista PC. Dread Delusion does this as well. But I didn’t finish it for the nostalgia; I finished it because I genuinely wanted to know how the story ends.

I’m a father, so some quests stayed with me in a way I didn’t expect. The parents in the Clockwork Kingdom searching for their daughter, or the background story of the Endless Duchess, were surprisingly affecting.

Dread Delusion isn’t memorable because of its mechanics. They are quite simple. It’s memorable because of its world and the stories hidden inside it. I'd recommend this game for players who enjoy exploration, strange fantasy worlds, and story-driven RPGs more than combat or mechanical depth. I got through the main story and most of the sidequests in around 22 hours.

10/10 would drink Skyshroom tea and club goblins again.

С визуальной точки зрения игра довольно проста, но у неё явно есть свой уникальный сеттинг и история, которая предвкушается с первых диалогов и игровых локаций... Однако геймплея этой игры я не выдержал даже часа на два.
Прежде всего, решение разместить, преимушественно, низкосортный лут, по-типу монет, расходников и боеприпасов, на каждом углу - сомнительное решение. Я очень быстро потерял мотивацию что-либо исследовать, ибо это вознаграждается хламом. Боевая система тут ну очень простая: подошёл - ударил - отступил, больше ничего не нужно. К сожалению, это тот случай, когда история действительно интригует, но играть невозможно. Лучше посмотреть обзор на Rutube. Гойда!

A wonderful retro RPG with a fun and engaging story, fascinating worldbuilding, and a very charming visual and musical style. Gameplay wise the combat is pretty simple, I didn't find it very engaging but it wasn't irritating either, and the spells were quite fun to play around with, there's a good amount of interactive stuff in the world and some fun puzzles. For the story it captures a lot of the fun and intrigue of old RPGs like Morrowind but with plenty of interesting and creative new ideas.

Amazing game. There is nothing else I can really say. If you like games like Oblivion, you'll most likely have a good time with Dread Delusion, even if you're not vibing with the art style and/or aesthetic (like I initially did. It quickly started to grow on me, though.)
The price tag is also insane for game of this quality. I got it 50% off, and I would've gladly paid full price for it.

Dread Delusion is really, really good.

First of all, look at it. It's gorgeous. They let an insane person design the world. It's so good. I think I am about 5 years too young to actually have been into these sort of games before, but the love the developers clearly have for that era is illuminating to me - I understand now.

Looking up stuff about the game after finishing it, there's a lot of complaints (or it being described as a weakness) about the primitive combat, but I just don't get it. I mean, yeah? It's King's Field. Viewing the game's plain combat as a negative just seems the same as calling out its graphics as "outdated". This game is not difficult, or challenging, or anything of the sort. You should not be seeking challenging combat in this game, because you will not find it.
If you allow your humble scribe to get a little bit delusional, however, I have a little bit of an idea about it, though it will get spoilery. This game is a walk in the park, you will cut through hundreds of people without much effort. And personally, I see it as a boon to this game's narrative, which is mostly about what to do with [spoiler]power - entrust it to a "devil you know" (surrender), destroy it (because power corrupts), or seize it for yourself (because only with power can you change the world). First one seems like a non-starter at least to me, and second one has been done to hell and back. The relative ease of combat, however, makes for a good test for the third option. At some point in the story, a character wormed their way into my mind and saw what I did in the past - and there was a lot of killing in that past. Mind you, I was operating under the impression that I was acting restrained - if a quest sent me somewhere and someone attacked me there, I would fight them and kill them. But when I was confronted with that, it did occur to me that a person who follows their own interests into a territory that belongs to someone else, pays no mind to the opponent's readiness to fight, and paints the walls red- might not be the best person to seize power[/spoiler]. I think this feeling would not quite be there if the game was very challenging.

I love the narrative and the story of the game, this whole "[spoiler]noble pursuit of power is delusional but it might just work, so you have to be delusional and not bound by the whole "being realistic" thing[/spoiler]" is great. This feels like New Vegas, but Wildcard ending is a given, so it's interrogating that side. I struggle to talk about it without spoilers, unfortunately, but again, I do love it.

One thing that irked me the wrong way was how weirdly formulaic it is... To it's own formula? For some reason, the game pretty much gives exactly the same amount of effort to three regions. Every region gets a regional quest (some major crisis is happening, fix it), a personal quest for the protagonist (recruit this person), and a couple of wildcards. I guess it just takes me out a little bit, when I have done essentially the same "ritual" in a different region, and am confronted with a similar structure in a different one. I felt the same playing Dredge.

And another thing which I *noticed* was the writing in some quests. This game is an RPG, it is about player choice, but sometimes the game railroads you into an experience where I would *expect* player choice. At that moment it feels like I'm playing one of those really good quest mods for Skyrim/New Vegas where the creator just had the idea of what was gonna happen it was just not gonna work any other way. I didn't hate it, but every time that happened I felt weird. Maybe it was, like, whiplash?
I would like to clarify what I said above. This game is an RPG, yes, but it is its own thing. This game is first and foremost, Dread Delusion. It doesn't make it a worse game to not adhere to what I think makes a good RPG.

I liked the music. The one track that plays on quests where you go after Dark Stars goes so hard.

Highly recommended, very unique, very brave, lots of heart, very interesting.

An interesting and well crafted world, but unfortunately does not scratch the RPG itch I thought it would. I wouldn't even call this an RPG, honestly - It's roleplaying insofar as making choices to affect a story, similar to Mass Effect 2 or 3, but otherwise it's completely lacking anything that mechanically makes a game feel like an RPG.

Even the character creation is an illusion of choice. 3 of the 4 character attributes ultimately do the same thing: open doors in different ways. Combat feels like an afterthought - it feels like if you played Morrowind for 100+ hours and got your character to the point where you're nearly invincible and never miss attacks. There's really nowhere to go with character progression in this, other than making a number higher so you can unlock a door or convince an NPC to unlock a door.

It's quite sad, because I do like the quest writing in this - feels very familiar and right at home in a game that's attempting to be similar to Elder Scrolls - but the gameplay just doesn't have enough substance to carry it. There doesn't even seem to be different weapon types or much variety in equipment at all? If there is, it's very out of the way, and honestly even if there are different weapons, I can't imagine it makes the combat any less uninteresting.

I could maybe recommend this if literally all you want is to explore an alien world with some quaint sidequests, but personally, it's really missing what makes an RPG feel immersive and fun to play. Inventory management, initially convoluted character attributes & abilities (read: friction), the potential to build your character "wrong" (or in this case, at all) aren't failures of game design, and I feel like the devs painstakingly sanded off the edges of something that originally was imperfect and made it into something very bland and unengaging.

It's a game that has really good lore and an interesting story with moral choices. Now if you are in it for the combat or build a sick character it's not for you. Combat is mostly an option. It's mostly a walking adventure, role play simulator.

Spoiler/rant: I've been playing for almost 12 hours and there are no bosses or enemies that are required to be killed that will block you from progressing. The only thing blocking you from getting these optional side stuff is your stats. Some stats are required to access secret areas or charming people to get access to loot and discounts. I heavily invested into being a mage in the beginning but there were no spells for me to use till like 2 hours later after searching for it, but it worked out because it helped increased my lore to find magical puzzles. I would say out of all the stats to invest into the most useless stat to invest into right away is strength. Sure it helps to kill enemies a bit faster, but killing enemies are an option. Enemies don't drop anything interesting they all drop the same stuff, but only drop one of these items 3 gold, 2-3 daggers, arrows, or a random potion. The most interesting thing about the combat is that you can keep attacking and running even if your stamina is low. All low stamina does is lower your attack, but you still do damage so you can actually just run around and attack non stop or do a heavy attack as you run towards the enemy to hit and run past them. Straight up combat is clunky and perfect guarding is not reliable. Just so you understand I played in hard mode. I died a lot in the beginning, but it's been smooth sailing knowing I don't actually need to fight anymore so I'm just running around finishing up quests as fast as possible and grabbing loot quickly without fighting. Currently in the clock kingdom region trying to invest into strength right now, because there's doors that require 3 strength to break through. My other stats are around 6-8 points. Everything is mostly upgraded. My choices are based on what they'll reward me mostly because it seems all choices are bad either way. I turn all my daggers into lesser spirits into high quality spirits to make really good alcohol to sell because I don't use daggers, Before I thought I would save daggers for bosses, but there's no reason to anymore. I've been selling all of my arrows because offensive magic is goated enough. As for faction rewards I do kind of regret helping the god of fertility. I kind of miss the charm increase buff and the safe bed.

А если нет, то скорее всего ничего важного вы не упустили, шахта с кусочком железа того не стоит: подождите, когда ресурсы зареспавнятся в другом месте.

Плохо: местами очень проседает качество повествования, прям-таки видно, где писал другой человек. Очень слабый основной сюжет, где мы гонимся за очередной особенной нитакусей, которая ща кааак починит мир. Ну вы поняли. This is barely an RPG, more of an action-adventure game. Enemies don't give EXP. Lockpicking is a literal dice roll. There is no manual saving. Melee combat is extremely simple, and very boring. There is no depth, you just backpedal and poke enemies with charged attacks. If you start as a spellcaster they don't even give you a simple fireball to start out with. Forcing the player to spends several hours poking enemies with a rusty dagger when they specced into a magic build is just lame. The difficulty is also a mess. Easy mode is a joke, and hard mode is way too hard.

The movement feels genuinely terrible. Walking has a full second of acceleration before you reach top speed. It feels like you're constantly trudging through mud. Sprinting is so fast that it can cause the whole game to break if you transition between loading zones too quickly. Sometimes entire areas will fail to load in any objects, like doors/enemies/boxes. You can sequence break the very first dungeon by sprinting inside, causing the rest of the doors to fail to load in.

The game also chugs really badly, despite the simple visuals. I think Unity just isn't meant for open world games.

Indie games with impressive visuals, but bad gameplay, feels like a disappointingly common pattern in recent times.

Интересный визуал (лучше сразу же на первой локе зайти в настройки графики, поиграться с отжатием галок про вублопции и посмотреть, как приятнее будет играть), местами затягивающий лор и мир, [i] потенциально интересный [/i] для исследования. Еще есть дома с прокачкой и можно полетать на корабле. Английский мне тут простым не показался и текста довольно много, но, вроде, есть русификатор в мастерской.
Но вот боевка - полный мусор и этот мусор убивает что интерес к исследованию мира и поискам лута (а лут в основном - отмычка, монетки и мет.ножи), что к прокачке, т.к. в ней особо нет смысла. В боевой магии его я тоже не нашел. Да и банально это кликанье вгоняет в скуку [spoiler] учитывая способ прокачки и некоторые реплики кажется, что надо бы просто всех пробегать [/spoiler].
С прокачкой у меня случилась ловушка елдарика - дали свободный открытый мир и я [spoiler] не дошел до первого крупного города, где были костюмы на стамину и шапка на шарм, а статы дает как раз шмот в основном. В итоге я закончил остров мертвяков, как смог по статам, а потом стал очаровательным неуставаемым магом с двуручником. Meh [/spoiler]

В итоге после окончания игры впечатление осталось хорошее, но всю саму игру не покидало ощущение, что в это время можно было бы играть во что-то более увлекательное.

Had this on my wishlist for what feels like years, and I'm glad I finally bought it. Fun & rewarding exploration of a strange, Scrolls-esque world, with art reminiscent of Mike Mignola's. In other words, they made a video game for me.

It's alright. I grew up with Skyrim, tried Morrowind once and got bored after 6 hours. Daggerfall actually kept my attention longer for reasons I still don't know (I enjoyed it enough to finish the game - at least, DFU). In a similar way, I enjoyed Dread Delusion enough to finish the game. The story and writing are alright, although there are times when being presented with a philosophical question and only being able to respond "agree", "disagree", and "don't care" feels kinda lame. Magic feels like it needed more qa testing - not being able to banish summons which get stuck means restarting the game to delete them (unless I missed something which is entirely possible). Projectile spells also got stuck on terrain all the time (especially immolate which is almost unusable since the projectile seems to hit the floor on casting - effectively making it a touch spell). The world and questing is really good. I enjoy not being handheld by waypoints the entire game.

Its been a year since I finished this game and I'm still thinking about it. The world, visuals and music really captivated me in a way few medias before did. I vividly remember plot lines and moments from my playtrough, which is not the case for most games I've ever played.
So I don't know what else to say - just play it! For me it's a 10/10 experience and I can't wait for whatever the devs have planned in the future.

Music was driving me insane, way too repetetive.
Something about the visuals made my eyes hurt.

Combat was fun, somewhat like King's Field, but the enemies you face are no threat, atleast as far as I got.
Not sure if there are stong RPG elements as I could not reload and test.

Very solid adventure RPG, with a great setting and fun gameplay loop. The only thing I really wanted by the end was more: more quests, more gameplay rpg options to expand on, more weapon choices, and more lore. You might struggle a bit early on with only quest instructions to guide you, but the discovery this approach brings is part of the magic of Dread Delusion. I miss games with this style of questing and Dread Delusion does a generally good job of execution, providing enough to go on without holding your hand all the way to the end.

Worth the price, and an absolute steal on sale.

A jewel of a roleplaying game with some very philosophical questlines and rough graphical and bare bones game mechanic edges.

Don't let the first impression fool you, nor the first several minutes turn you away. Once you get quests in the first proper town, there's going to be immediately interesting twists and turns that becomes the defining theme of a lot of this game's questlines! I especially loved how even the side quests aren't just good in their own right, but many even add context and weave into the main quest line. Learning about each region, town, and it's history really adds weight to the decisions you will have to make before ending them, getting rewarded accordingly, and gaining access to the next region. The questions and dilemmas they pose are on par with the character defining quests you'd find in Planescape: Torment.

Now, the graphics and the First Person mechanics are pretty basic, and I think it's deliberately so. Aside from straight forward spell casting bolts and buffing, and shooting arrows, even hand to hand combat is pretty simple. You block and swing, and so does your opponents. If you time your blocks correctly they get staggered with a parry. And that's it. Functional, but pretty basic and pretty dull. Like what I heard from old Elderscrolls II: Daggerfall, leveling up is done either by exploration, or completing quests. So it's pretty clear this game is doing what it can to engage you more with roleplaying than it's combat.

Music is very atmospheric with pretty and haunting melodies. Coupled with the graphics, it really made the game feel pretty old school and classic. Although the crunchy 3D graphics, and even the fonts were pretty harsh on the eyes.

I was very happy to have finally played and completed this game. If you like thought provoking questlines, immersive roleplaying, and a truly grand and engaging story, then you'll love this game. I give it two thumbs up!

This game is perfect I would say, I am replaying the second time now and it feels like I fully submerged in this world, the story was peak, the choices the aesthetic and the lore fantastic, thank you to the developers of this game to have given me such experience, this is what gaming is for.

[spoiler]The only thing is that one of the endings may have been a bit too happy for the narrative of the whole game and its atmosphere, but still I can accept it, I guess hope dies last.[/spoiler]

Initially I thought I wasted money on this game... After an hour and a half of gameplay I wasn't very impressed. I put it down for like half a year came back, and well Im obsessed.
It's not the best thing Ive ever played, it's not perfect but damn this game is fun and surprisingly well written.
