一般般
NOTE: To prevent crashing of game, please launch the loader of the game, set FPS to 30, and set windows version to windows 7 in this loader. Also, i do not think this game supports widescreen, so be aware of that fact too. This will lower the amount of crashes you get. I only had 2 crashes in post game because i think it happened when a party member died at same time i did a coup de grace move.
Hello friends,
Today I will review the game Dragon Quest Heroes Slime Edition. This is side game of the Dragon Quest series on steam. If players think this is a rpg, it is not. It is more a likened to a mix of Musou and Tower Defense. Many of the maps require to guard XXX spot or object and make sure it is not damaged and destroyed. So if players think this is a rpg, yes, it does have some rpg elements in it, but i would call it more a mixed Musou and tower defense than a rpg.
The game features characters from many of the dragon quest games, including ones I personally did not recognize. There are story missions players must complete to move to the next story mission. Sometimes there are quests to kill a certain amount of monsters, or find a certain items to finish them. The rewards tend to be alchemy supplies. Pretty soon in the story, you get a base that has a store, a mini medal store, a alchemy combining lab, and a bar to change characters. This is basically the players home base to do missions and story missions on the world map. More locations can be opened if players can find the maps to the specific locations. Anyways, here is my pros and cons list:
PROS:
- A Musou and tower defense mix game in the world of Dragon Quest games.
- Many characters from different games in the series will join as playable characters.
- Side quests to finish and mini medals to collect.
- A base location to shop, trade, and change characters.
- Post game quests and missions.
- Secret locations unlocked by finding maps.
CONS:
- The game acts like a RPG, but in fact, it fooled me even. It is not a rpg. It is a mix of Musou and tower defense game.
- Some players have reported issues loading the game. If you follow my instructions, it will almost eliminate all crashes in the game. I only experienced 2 myself, and they were in the post game.
Do I recommend this game? Honestly, it is not a bad game, but it is not what i expected. I thought it was a action rpg, but it is more a mix of Musou and tower defense oriented. Although it does have some rpg elements, such as levels, quests, and skills, it is not a rpg. It wants to be a rpg, but it is more of a mixed game. It can be challenging as i personally ran into a roadblock in the post missions on certain ones and tried beating them for several days without no result. Just follow my above instructions in the loader to make it work, even on windows 11.
Fun, easy to learn, intuitive - love it!
Score: 8/10
It took me several attempts to get into Dragon Quest Heroes. At first glance, it feels like a straightforward Musou-style spin-off, and I initially assumed it was more of a surface-level crossover built on familiar faces rather than a true Dragon Quest experience. That assumption turned out to be completely wrong.
Once the game opens up, it reveals a surprising amount of heart. The tone, humor, and warmth that define the Dragon Quest series are all here. The returning characters don’t feel like simplified cameos or one-note versions of themselves; they’re fully realized, with their original personalities, voice acting, and charm intact. It feels less like a novelty crossover and more like a genuine Dragon Quest world where these characters naturally belong.
The game also incorporates more RPG elements than you might expect. Each character has their own skills, much like traditional Dragon Quest party members, along with visually impressive Coup de Grâce attacks that serve as powerful special moves. There’s also a solid equipment system and a tactical layer through monster tokens, which allow you to summon creatures during battles. These mechanics add variety and keep combat from feeling completely mindless.
Another highlight is the character interaction outside of combat. Once you establish your base and begin expanding your roster, party members will talk with you between missions, offering small conversations and personality-driven moments. There’s also lively voice dialogue during missions, with characters exchanging banter and reacting to events as you fight. This aspect isn’t fully realized early on, but it becomes one of the game’s most enjoyable features as the cast grows and the relationships between them start to shine.
The story and character writing improve significantly after the first major boss. As more party members join, the narrative gains momentum and personality. Several character-focused quests provide small but meaningful insights into their pasts and relationships, which helps them shine beyond their original appearances. It becomes a much more engaging experience once the roster expands.
The game is also packed with content, featuring well over a hundred quests along with special missions and trial challenges that add extra variety and replayability. There are also three standout boss encounters, two of which act as challenging cameo battles referencing prior entries in the series. These fights feel like meaningful callbacks rather than simple fan service, and they provide some of the most memorable moments in the game.
Combat can be somewhat simple on a per-character basis, with limited move sets, but the large and varied cast keeps things fresh. The enemy density also changes dramatically as the game progresses. Early missions can feel sparse, with fewer enemies on the field, but later stages introduce much larger groups and a wider variety of foes. This shift makes battles more intense, more challenging, and much more in line with what players expect from a Musou-style experience.
Overall, Dragon Quest Heroes is an underappreciated spin-off. It’s a slow burn that doesn’t fully come into its own until later in the game, but once it does, it delivers the charm, character, and warmth the series is known for. If you dismissed it as a generic crossover or a shallow Musou title, it’s worth giving it another chance.
Score: 8/10
A very fun hack-and-slash game. Longtime fans would love the characters.

Want a Warrior's style game that's Dragon Quest? Done. Want it to also have a decent story? (surprisingly) done. Exactly what I wanted. :)
Most complaints are about it never going on sale and Square Enix customer support, literally nothing to do with the game experience itself...
Since I beat Dragon Quest I-II HD2D Remake, I've been wanting more. I've wanted to check out the Dragon Quest Heroes games for so long but they never go on sale. I bit the bullet and got this one and so far, I like it a lot.
I'm glad I waited until I had played most of the series to try this. It's really cool seeing characters from past games join your party and even get to play as. I've been unapologetically playing as Terry for 90% of the game instead of the OC.
I've been playing it completely on Steam deck and it runs surprisingly well. It's not verified but I think it should be. There was one issue with the cutscenes not playing on first boot but downloading a proton patch you can find easily fixed it right up.
This game is great for pick up and play. I don't particularly care for the Warriors type games because they tend to get pretty repetitive to me but this one is holding my attention because of the level and I just love being in this world.
It never goes on sale but I wanted more Dragon quest but didn't want to start another 30-50 hour rpg so I got this and I can easily see myself spending 30-50 hours in it, probably more. Fun game if you're a long time fan of Dragon Quest. You can see so much love was put into this project. Looking forward to checking out the second one when I finish this one up.
It's all about the replay value to me. It's a superb way to spend time with all the quests available!
This review took me days to write, wrote several drafts so I wouldn't forget anything.
While I have been having a lot of fun with the game, there were too many negatives about it for me to ignore and rate Dragon Quest Heroes positively.
I will point out the positives first:
-Very colorfull and pretty, the art is fantastic. The game is beautiful and vibrant.
-Combat is fun and fluid; some strategy is required but not a lot and not for most fights
-Appropriate for everyone
-Plenty of characters, each one with unique abilities and fighting styles; their interactions are also very good and bring extra life to the game.
-Good variety of enemies/monsters and boss fights
-Easy to understand game mechanics
-Completing it takes time; most missions are similar but due to the fun combat and character variety it's possible to experiment with each of 'em and clear everything while maintaining novelty for a while.
In most instances all of these traits would mean that the game is great,
but now I'll explain how its easily fixable flaws ruin it for most people.
Negatives regarding the current state of the game:
-No sale since 2021
Dragon Quest Heroes used to go on sale multiple times a year before 2022.
There hasn't been a sale since 2021 and it was even before the Halloween sale!
They missed the X-Mas sales that year. What happened?
The game is from 2015, it had a regular discount of 50% and then they stopped - why?
It's like either Square Enix or KoeiTecmo forgot the game exists, or they want it dead.
The sales are helpful to older games like this, bringing in new customers - to the game and to the franchise.
It's a shame... I had to buy it full price on X-Mas 2024, that wasn't a problem for me because I like the game - having it bought and played on a different platform before.
But that's it, I am merely a returning customer. And one of the very few because the player count on both Dragon Quest Heroes is... depressing.
The Dragon Quest Heroes games have THE LOWEST player count of ALL the Dragon Quest games. That is impressive!
Very bad, but impressive.
How is it possible? Maybe it is the multitude of negative points I have yet to mention.
And I am sure the mixed reviews don't help it either.
-No support, no Steam Deck
With very simple controls and basic - but very entertaining - gameplay,
the ability to be played in short bursts or in long sessions,
one would think DQH would be one of the best games to have on Steam Deck.
Unfortunately it is unsupported and it is not realistic to expect that it will ever be supported.
People also complain oftenly about crashes and software instability and incompatibility,
which don't seem to have been addressed, nor will they ever be addressed.
Once again, the impression that I get is that this game is meant to be forgotten by will of the publisher, the devs, or both.
-Streaming copyright issues, and music
There's a weird legal warning regarding the streaming of the game, I have never seen any other game do this.
It's right at the start menu of the game: "Notice About Streaming" - which is, ironically, barelly noticeable when you just wanna have fun and play!
The warning states: "Streaming of this game is permitted ONLY in non-commercial contexts." - well damn,
that's one sure way to stop any streamer, specially popular ones, from streaming your game and showing it to a wider audience.
Streaming in any context can be argued to be always commercial, and nobody wants the legal trouble to deal with interpretations.
The warning also states, immediatly afterwards: "(...) using streams of the game to primarily provide or listen to the music is prohibited (...)",
this game constantly has blaring music all the time, I had to turn it off in the options because I couldn't stand it anymore.
Now add a little bit of streaming music copyright legality and you pretty much garantee nobody will stream it. And by extension, nobody will see it.
Negatives regarding gameplay:
-Too loud
The music and sounds and blaringly loud. The music is nearly constant, an incessant torrent of repeated notes that I did not care for.
I had to shut it off, my ears were suffering.
-Healstones are just health potions
The Healstones mechanic was poorly thought out, they are not much different from health potions in other games.
They restore health and only have one use, which can be replenished by spending gold. You can only carry a limited ammount of them, and they have different magnitudes of replenishment.
Selecting a specific Healstone during combat doesn't really fly, so you might as well equip all of one type so you can just use the next one.
This way you know what to expect of each Healstone.
Obviously you would think that this also means that it would be best to equip only the top tier Healstones, but no, the top second is the best one due to the VERY HIGH cost of the top one.
It's just not economically viable to equip the top tier healstone when the top second replenishes nearly full health and costs 4 times less (if I am not mistaken).
-Poor enemy tracking
Enemy tracking is a bit poor, the player character doesn't really follow the enemy that is locked on, only the camera follows the enemy.
This makes it harder to hit with heavy or long leading attacks, as well as special attacks. It's a bummer when you spend MP on a special only to slice the air and not the enemy.
-Greatest flaw: the neverending text
Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below, what a subtitle!
However the real Woe and Blight Below is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ neverending retro-console like text and the [Yes/No] prompts.
The text is SLOW, going letter by letter with an annoying "droot toot droot" sound effect often followed by a [Yes/No] prompt.
This happens for every little thing, saving the game is the worse offender, but there's also for Buying, Selling, Upgrading equipment, replenishing Healstones, enchanting, special menus and whatever the ♥♥♥♥ else there is.
This makes a player desire, above all else, for the text to end, the rest of the game will be overshadowed.
The desire to Skip text will flourish even in a Visual Noveler granny, and grow stronger each play session.
The problem is that to skip the forever text you gotta press the "skip" button, which is the same as the "go back" button, which means when the inevitable [Yes/No] prompt appears, you WILL go back and have to go through all the text AGAIN.
If the game were a 10 this problem alone would drop it to a 4.
The text is the worse boss fight ever: Per encounter it is not the strongest, but it keeps showing up, and it will grind down you down.
Its purpose to defeat your sanity and willpower, you desire to keep keep going, and ultimatelly beating you because you don't want to play anymore.
- Additional notes:
Paid no attention to the story and I didn't miss out on it.
I skipped it like my life depended on it.
Fun time consuming game.

I had a blast with this game! the Dragon quest theme on a one vs many action game, i feel, works very well. the new characters were interesting and seeing old characters from main title DQ games was a very pleasing addition. on the road to grab all of the achievements in this game i found myself bored or annoyed very rarely. in this gamer's opinion Dragon quest heroes is a good time and i recommend this game to anyone looking for a more active combat dragon quest experience.
👍 Recomendado.
its a decent Dragon Quest game. after what happend with the builder games and the tresure ones, this is an overall decent game. storyline is basic, though the gameplay is way diffrent then regular Dragon Quest games. if your looking for gameplay over storyline. i suggest this game.
Fun game, but skip this one if you're at all interested in 100% it.
As with all dragon quest games, a big junk of the game is post-story grinding. Story is around 25 hours.
With extremely good planning, I think 40-45 hours to 100% is possible, but you're most likely looking at 50-60 hours.
Toriyama's classic art style and a wonderful combat system combined with past characters from Dragon Quest 3 and more. This is a wonderful combination of characters and stories.
Univers Akira TORIYAMA ( DBZ) NICE !!!!!!!!!

Juego bastante facil y relajante para platinar
One of the BEST RPG games I've ever played!! 😍😍 Thank you Square Enix for making this Masterpiece! ❤️❤️
DQ
Honestly it's pretty lame. I bought it ages ago now, reinstalled to try and squeeze my money out of it since i'm pretty sure i paid $40 since the dayum thing is NEVER ON SALE EVER!!! lol... but yeah, it's a musou game. They were amazing to me during the PS2 era. I'll never forget walking into Toys R Us when PS2 was brand new and being absolutely blown away by how fast Dynasty Warriors 1 played. Coming from the PS1 era it was... just staggering the leaps in technology. Today... it's rather meh.
Just mash some buttons with a grand total of maybe 3-4 mission types. Good if you want to switch off your brain and just mindlessly kill stuff. But then i would recommend an ARPG over a musou. The game is pretty light on RPG elements and i was hoping since it's a DQ game, that it would make the musou gameplay more interesting, it doesn't.
Oh and users of Windows 8-10 with Nvidia graphics cards are given a warning about particle effects causing crashing unless you tweak it so... that's at least half of all PC gamers lol. Skip it. Get Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity on Switch instead if you like Musou games.

i am unsure how to state how i feel about this game, it is both a great game but also not very good, i'll state the positives and negatives :
Pros :
- everything you'd expect from a dragon quest game is here, cool-looking attacks, cool or fun bosses, a host of quests and loot to pillage.
- the way the game looks is great, a lot of the locations you find yourself in are nice to look at.
- story is about what you'd expect but i'd argue thats a good thing, mainly cause it feels like a dragon quest game.
middle-ground :
- gameplay is great but the amount of enemies with stagger and forms of stun is plentiful, especially in the later game
- characters are a mixed bag, some of great, others are bland and one-note, namely the male protagonist is extremely one-note and does little to no changing through the game.
- alchemy is very dumbed down from what i am used to with it, namely that you can only make accessories from it rather then being able to make weapons or armour ( or well, in this case orbs. ), this is middle ground cause its neither a good nor bad thing, its just what it is.
cons -
- the game is very easy to beat, you likely won't have any issues playing through the game but and once you get into post-game, thats when things start getting ridiculous in difficulty when it comes to enemy damage or how tanky the enemies can become.
- a large amount of enemies are just bullet sponges and nothing else, zombies inparticular are ridiculously tanky and only serve to either poison you or take a while to kill compared to everything else.
- the ai teammates in this game are actual idiots, you will have many points where the ai will just stand there staring at the enemies doing absolutely nothing while you are trying to kill an enemy that takes a lot of damage or hunting metal slimes.
- mission design is awful, it can be sumerised in 3 different modes : kill all the enemies, defend the objective from enemies, escort this objective to this location, thats it, there are one or two exceptions where this changes but most of the missions in the game fall into those three categories.
this game is a mixed bag but i can't say that i ultimately dislike it, i enjoyed my time with the game, especially at the start of it but it dragged on a bit as i got further in and while the end-game was ridiculous when i first got to it, enough levels and you can pretty much handle everything the game throws at you... well, mostly.
好玩
A very energetic and funny "Warriors" game. Slash away at thousands of monsters while listening to light-hearted and inspiring dialogue. The controls are very responsive and the action feels good. A game worth your time despite its age!
Topp Spiel!
This game is so much fun when you don't use the controls that are so not fun it made me drop the game for 8 years
Might just be because its my least favourite quest type. but WAY too many defend/escort type quests for an RPG. Some of the endgame superboss fights can be fun, but when you've got a target to defend from both a very tough boss and hordes of summoned minions, and you have to do it on a timer to get the best loot, its way too many moving parts to be enjoyable. On top of that, the newgame+ feature just puts you back to the start of the game without any increase in difficulty, so a replay is 95% spamming your biggest AoE to get through faster.
You get to fight huge crowds of slimes.
Hitting no just for the fact that there is a known compatibility issue the dev refuses to address. The game is great if it will run on your machine. a bit of a start and stop game but still fun.
I recommend, It's very good!
DO NOT BUY IF YOU'RE ON WINDOWS 8/10/11 AND HAVE AN NVIDIA CARD!
It refused to start even after I did all the recommended fixes, by trail and error I discovered it would start if I disabled "Full Screen" but it looked like trash and there is no "border-less" mode. Couple of minutes in it crashed so bad I had to reset the computer and that is as far as I'm able to "play" the game.
Koei Tecmo knows about these issues but only warns you AFTER you bought the game that it will be unstable on anything else than Windows 7 and doesn't care to patch the game. I bought it a some time ago but only now got around to "play" it so I can't get a refund although my purchase is completely broken.
This game should be pulled from the Steam store, and I will never pay for a Koei Tecmo game on the PC again since their ports are trash and not supported past release. I honestly feel swindled and distrustful towards Steam for turning a cold shoulder refusing a refund on a game the developers themselves say is broken for people not on Windows 7.
It's fun, I'm replaying it now on a fresh save to experience it again.
It's a musou game through and through, for better and for worse.
Long, long maps, bosses with a LOT of health, enemies aren't too threatening though can definitely chip you down.
You control 1 hero at a time, and take up to 4 heroes into battle who you can freely switch between.
You can also summon NPC controlled teammates by defeating enemies and absorbing their souls, essentially.
Like other musou games, your teammates are near useless. Ranged units are far better, as your hero allies will stick so close to you that they won't get to engage with anything on their own.
Equippables, spells, characters, side content, crafting are all plentiful, but you're always going to end up using the same optimal combos, and jumping through your characters just to make sure their spells are used, as they won't be doing anything interesting or flashy at all.
If you can survive the wrist pain, go for it, and if you're a fan of DQ, definitely give it a try.
It's a slog, but it's easy to play whenever you want, no real deep story to keep your head around, the soundtrack, sound, monsters, art, they're all brilliant.
Apparently the second game is much better, which I can't say myself, but I believe it. This one is just too long-winded and repetitive, but it's a good brain-off game.
Definitely wait for a sale though!
A fun Dragon Quest and Dynasty Warriors mashup! The combat is mixed together well and the characters created by Akira Toriyama will always be top tier.
Not the best Dragon Quest nor the most polished PC port, but it's still good enough. Pretty much a port of a PS3 (and PS4) game, Dragon Quest Heroes is a very experimental 'Musou' + Dragon Quest approach to the hack-and-slash genre.
It takes some time to get used to the animations, and the absence of a dash feature can be quite annoying at first. However, as you progress, you gain the ability to teleport using Zoom, and the gameplay gradually becomes a little faster over time. Honestly, I'm having a lot of fun, especially when relaxing in bed with my ROG Ally while farming or testing new characters. The story is not the best but quite engaging. However, I can't really recommend it at full price; good luck finding it on sale, though...
pros include plenty to do, unique classes, abilities, and animations. story great and mindless slashing fun, cons include can be a boring doing the same thing over and over still addicting and would give 10/10
Dynasty Warriors meets Dragon Quest. :) Love it ^_^
If you don't like hack and slashes this won't be your jam but, as a Dragon Quest mega fan I absolutely adore this game.
The combat is great, there are a ton of characters from previous titles making for some interesting interactions and i never get too bored of the combat. A must play for dragon quest and dynasty warriors fans
Dragon Quest WARRIORS, its a really nice blend of the two genres but i got a lil bored early on. Would still recommend!
great game
LE JEUX NE FONCTIONE PAS SUR PC ET IL NE ME L'ON PAS REMBOURSé (arnaque steam)
Very fun game! Any dragon quest lover should play!
well i mean... yeah, why not. some chunky azz tho
excellent
fun
Very good jrpg from famous series 👍
You should play at least 5 hours to understand the game since it reveals itself after 2 or 3 chapters ! The difficulty is quite good, I never had to grind my levels so bosses were challenging and new recruits were 2 or 3 levels ahead from me. The most important feature is its "fan service", the cast is very great from DQ IV to VI and DQ VIII. Alchemy Pot, Items, Inn... all is according to the DQ licence. You have to build a team of 4 (main character included) to fight. Don't forget to select the level-up of you characters frequently. Also Notice that character in the Inn also gain Xp but less than the ones in battle so you can keep the same or change at will. A good game, for DQ fans and often undervalued.
Not fun at all. You have to grind for hours to get a decent level between adventures. The characters controlled by IA that follow you aren't helping much. Sometimes they're even completely useless. Also, the story isn't really interesting. Reaaaaally bad game.
i mean i love it
okok
Very good cutie slime.
Dragon Quest

Nothing like the other DQ games, got boring really fast. Was seriously miss-sold this title after I finished DQ9
right so no bugs no crash's this is a well made game, for it's type story wasn't too bad as well.
i happen to like it a lot and what's more the quests give you something to do.
now im wondering what the 2nd game is like.
now the only thing i didn't like, is i couldn't use 1080p could be that my main screen is set to a lower res but other then that a fun game

great on steam
deck
bom
Point +++
Was fun until the game expected me to grind for several more levels
I mean, it could be a lot worse. unless you're a big fan of DQ or these kinda games i would skip it. perhaps the sequel is better, idk i never got it. i did enjoy some fairly mindless gameplay.
Buy this on sale, and it's a very fun, if simplistic, Warriors/Musou game.
My major complaint with the game is that there are three characters (Both heroes and also Terry) with identical basic attack movesets (all based somewhat off Xingcai from mainline Dynasty Warriors), but they all have very different magic.
Other than that, it's your usual power fantasy Warriors/Musou, with the added element of R1 actions similar to Warriors Orochi 4, way earlier than Warriors Orochi 4. There's an unfortunately small number of playable characters in this one, but the sequel rectifies this by using a Vocation system.
Monster medals don't really do much outside of point defending missions, but the mission formats are actually different than most Musou games, other than Berserk Musou.
PC port is pretty bad, but on a PC that's from the distant future compared to this game's release, it runs quite a bit smoother if you disable global illumination and environments, those are the real performance tanker settings in any DW7-era spinoff.
I am also a Dragon Quest fan, and I love being able to play as some of my favorites, like Terry, Alena (weirdly enough, has a moveset similar to Luffy from OPPW), and Psaro (who has a moveset based off Shanks and Nobunaga's movesets), but I think the game focuses too much on DQ4 and DQ8 characters, not enough love for DQ7 and DQ6, although they did pick the best characters from DQ4 and DQ6.
In short, fun mission formats, bad character variety, but it's really fun for a Dragon Quest and Dynasty/Samurai Warriors fan. Definitely a step-up from Berserk Musou, but it's just not on par with Hyrule Warriors or One Piece Pirate Warriors, but what other licensed Warriors spinoffs are on that level?
If you aren't a Warriors/Musou mega-fan, maybe play Warriors Orochi 3 or 4, Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Complete, Samurai Warriors 4-II or 5 or Spirit of Sanada, or Hyrule Warriors on Yuzu (which runs SHOCKINGLY well on Yuzu) first. But this also is by no means a bad choice, none of the Warriors games are bad, they're only mid at worst.
I've heard the sequel's much better but I haven't dived into it yet other than making sure it launches. I saw there's a protagonist in that game with a moveset based on Liu Bei in addition to a Xingcai protagonist, that's more my speed than three Xingcai clones.
7.5/10, you'll get something out of it if you're a series/genre fan, but it's not for everyone, and if it's not your thing, it's unlikely to change your mind. Also, Koei, please give US PC fans Gundam Musou, I wanna play it so badly and we need more Gundam games on PC. Also please start putting Arslan on sale again, why is it never on sale?
Over priced and i can't see anyone liking this outside dragon quest fans and even then it takes effort to enjoy it. the main issue is the defend this spot missions. here you need to defend something that takes damage and if some of the stronger enemies get near it they spam their Area Of Effect abilities. this will slowly widdle down the objects hp but if you try to fight away from the object other enemies will sneak in and damage it. what you end up doing is spamming monster meddles before running off to kill stronger enemies and hoping the monsters you spawned hold off the incoming horde until you can get back.
p.s. the slime items are starter items only and will be replaced after the next set of items opens up in the weapon shop.
"inventaire plein".
