better then any game made in todays age
Imaging Monkey Island as an action RPG rather than a point-and-click game, but also a bit worse. I feel mixed about this, given I'm replaying it after playing it back in 2011 or so. It plays fine on a modern PC, and I haven't had any problems with controls or crashing. I think a lot of issues are more quality of life problems and comparing this to later games, which I seem to recall did a better job of skill management. The story is also funny at times and a great demonstration of voice actor ability, but it becomes grating and a lot of the humor doesn't really work. You can only listen to Deathspank be an obnoxious ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about women so much, or at least see it as a dialogue option, understand he's meant to be an obnoxious pastiche of a generic white male fantasy hero, plus a ton of ♥♥♥♥ and masturbation jokes (and maybe one anti-union joke, which, huh?), so many times before it becomes droll. The actors do a phenomenal job, and there are many quite elaborate and silly moments in this. I just started skipping through dialogue after a while because of how frustrating running back and forth trying to figure out where I was going was.
It's extremely hard to figure out where quests are located, and you get a very limited number of fortune cookies for largely useless hints, some of which include things like, "The item is in front of [building you don't know the location of]", involving either meticulously combing through the entire map or just googling a guide. A related issue is that the map is often quite useless, as you can only see an overview of sections of it you're not in, rather than zoom in and out as you please, and when you're looking at the Outhouse map, you can't see where, say, quest markers are, so you have to arbitrarily click and hope you remember where the largely unremarkable map locations are. The only notable locations are Pluckmuckle, Von Prong's castle, and the Enchanted Forest, which cover only a small portion of the map, and are difficult in themselves to navigate.
The one gameplay issue I had was using items in your inventory (e.g., the whistles). They required a lot of clicking to get Deathspank to register them. The other one is the limited inventory and inventory management problem. You get so much stuff, it's annoying to have to decide what to leave behind or just sell. Buying anything other than quest items and maybe potions is largely pointless, so it's not that big a deal, but you have a lot of stuff and some things, like nature weapons, are necessary for hurting certain enemies, so you don't want to trash anything but your highest level gear. It took me ages to find a crossbow with actually decent damage, so if I'd trashed the one I had, I'd have been out of luck for most of the game when dealing with ranged enemies. Another problem is that initially, and from what I remember playing this the first time, low level enemies would stop bothering you once you got high enough of a level. This worked for a time, but after like my third play session, vanished entirely. Even gray enemies would go after me if I wandered too close to them.
It's a relatively easy RPG for folks who want that sort of thing, with an art style that hasn't aged but won't be everyone's cup of tea. I still love the spinning sword and wished there was a higher level one than the 800 damage one. It's the best weapon in the game, after the really nice crossbow. If you want to play more of this, all three of these games are on Steam, the third just isn't called "Deathspank": look for "The Baconing". I can't say I recommend that, given I remember it being the worst of the three, but they're all here if you want to play them.

Deathspank, seen only as a game, is a rather straightforward affair. It's a hack'n'slash d&d, with tons of different items to be looted, equipment to be, well, equipped and new weapon upgrades spewing like fountains out of the corpses of your slain enemies. And gold. Tons of gold.

I remember playing this when I was younger and for some reason not finishing it; recently I decided to give it another shot and finally got through it. If I could summarize my thoughts on this game in one sentence it would be: "It's a Ron Gilbert game." If you've played any of his games, then you more or less know what to expect: a game that feels like it was made in the 90's with simple but quirky humor. I do think the game starts a little slow, but after the first chapter of the story and the world opens up, the game becomes more interesting both in gameplay and story. It's also where the game's humor starts to kick in a little more.
Gameplay-wise, this game is very simple. There are technically different types of weapons with different elements and special abilities, but in all honesty, you can get away with just using whatever items have the biggest numbers, for both weapons and armor. Blocking is so strong in this game, you can just repeat attack/block forever until all the enemies around you are dead.
Overall, whether you will like this game really depends on some simple questions. Do you like Ron Gilbert games? If yes, then play this. Do you like games from the 90's that have cheeky humor and deliver a simple, straight-forward experience? Do you like the old games by Double Fine like Costume Quest and Psychonauts? If yes, then you're probably a Ron Gilbert fan without even knowing it and should play this game.
It feels like the developers wanted to make a good point and click game, but were forced into making... some kind of action RPG thing. I feel rather bad for the developers for this game.

Juego que tenia pediente de hace muchisimo tiempo. Lo habre jugado en la casa de un amigo de forma pirata y sin conocer su legado de grandes juegos sacados del creador lo tantee asi nomas. Ahora con mas tiempo conociendo el juego Psychonauts (Ya que su compositor esta tambien en este juego y se nota), y el humor que maneja la saga lo recontra recomiendo, mucho humor y boludeces para variar. El juego es corto pero divertido. Pude jugarlo en español gracias al parche que encontro un amigo en una pagina vieja que sinceramente no pude encontrar. Jugado con mando de Xbox One.

DeathSpank may not be the best RPG out there but the hilarious story and characters will immediately pull you in, the graphics are beautiful, a true work of art, and the gameplay is pure enjoyable hack and slash, there are a lot of weapons and items to find and experiment with.It won't blow you away with innovation or graphical prowess, though every aspect is enjoyable, effective, and responsive like a game should be.This game might be old but it has the "true" gaming in it!
Deathspank overall is a very fun hack and slash RPG in the vein of Torchlight or Diablo, but with a parodic and tongue-in-cheek tone. This is one of those games that seems to partially hang its hat on its humor and is one of those rare cases that actually gets a lot more hits than misses, I many times found myself laughing out loud at some of the references or funny puns during the dialogue. You'll meet many colorful characters along the way, on Deathspanks quest to recover The Artifact. The game features loads of sidequests and a fun combat system that will require blocking, timing and reflexes to succeed. The game can be pretty challenging and isn't one where you can turn off your brain and succeed (at least on normal difficulty). The art style and sound design are also very stylized, it almost felt like a Maxwell Atoms Billy and Mandy alternate universe to me, in the very best sense of the comparison.
I do have a few gripes about the game, it seems that at some points there are difficulty spikes that seem unfair, or occasionally getting hit by a swarm of enemies you're not familiar with only to be exploded in one hit, I think there would have been a slightly better way to streamline the mobs to gradually work the player up. However, this can be mitigated by doing a slight amount of grinding and upgrading your armor and weapons with better stuff. I also found some of the quests and goals to be cryptic to find and had to look up solutions, even when using the fortune cookie hint system which is helpful. The game in my opinion would have done well implementing a waypoint system, as so many times quests will involve visiting many different locations and the twisting paths of the map can quickly become mazelike and you'll spend too much time wandering figuring out how to get back to where you needed to be, a simple waypoint system would have mitigated any and all of that frustration and wasted backtracking.
Overall despite being a bit rough in some areas the game is a very satisfying hack and slash game with some modest customization elements and a lot of fun and laughs to be had. It's a shortish experience, I got about 100% completion in slightly over 10 hours, not the longest game but definitely good bang for your buck. On sale for $3 it's a total steal but even $15 is a pretty reasonable price for the amount of fun I had. Check this out if you want an RPG thats a bit different and dark or if you love the moreish gameplay loop of games like Torchlight or even Champions of Norrath, you should have a blast!

My dad used to let me play this on his PS3 when i was younger. Love the irony and stupid humor in it, game is awesome and I can only recommend it.

Чего только стоит задание с нахождением пропавших сирот и помещением их в мешок, или помощи местному Индиане Джоунсу с зачисткой пещер, в которые он сам не может пойти из-за боязни узких пространств, темноты и пауков.
Снаряжение, что герой будет находить на протяжении всей игры выглядит красиво и эстетично, как если бы его комплекты продавались отдельно в виде дополнений, в лучших традициях тех же Electronic Arts. В мире также полно оружия с разными характеристиками, начиная с мечей, жезлов, арбалетов и заканчивая каким-нибудь молотом, который не наносит урон демонам, но, в буквальном смысле, выбивает из них дерьмо.
“Мультяшность” мира DeathSpank позволила ему хорошо сохраниться в наше время. Каждая локация имеет свой тон повествования. Перемещение между которыми происходит через деревенские сортиры.
Настоятельно рекомендую проходить игру на английском языке, не используя кривой русификатор от команды ZoG Forum Team, из-за которого теряется львиная доля юмора, что есть в диалогах, и использовать контроллер для более комфортного прохождения.

It's a pretty simple game: you go around and slash and hack everything on your way, sometimes stopping to talk with random people, cause they may have a quest for you. Nothing fancy, just the basics of any game that's ever existed. The world isn't very fancy as well: it's a nice mix of generic landscapes with some bizarre additions here and there, to spice the things up.
What does stand out are the dialogues. They are full of light-hearted humor and random references told by weird characters with weird views and requests. If you have read Terry Pratchett - you will find DeathSpank's world somewhat similar to the Discworld in terms of how likewise the folk of those worlds is in their absurdity. It's a funny mix of ill logic with fairly reasonable statements, although unexpected, somehow being perceived as a norm. Moreover, the names, descriptions and even signs receive the same bizarre treatment. And of course, just as every good joke, they have some connections to the everyday real world occasions.
The only questionable part of the game is combat: even though it's very simple, it's also weirdly balanced. In the beginning you crush everything, then, for a short amount of time, everything crushes you, and then you again come on top, destroying every poor creature that dares to stand on your way. The blocking system greately contributes to that: it allows to block all damage for short amount of time, but there is no real way to fight back unharmed if you are surrounded, because multiple enemies together attack faster than character can swing his weapon and hide behind the shield again. And there will be lots of multiple enemies hitting you at the same time. Thankfully, soon enough nothing will really bother you due to how fast leveling goes.
Overall, DeathSpank is a very chill game. Its simplicity allows for the relaxed playthrough when you just want to calmly spend your time, and the omnipresent humor let's you truly enjoy such experience, captivating and stimulating to continue playing. It's a game that just wants to be a game, not a great all-consuming experience that desires to take away all your time and energy, or to encourage you to contemplate about deep and difficult topics.

Honestly a pretty decently fun game to play in co-op. The humor is incredibly corny and (in my opinion) quite dated. It's a typical cocky-hero-wannabe-saves-the-day story with an infinite amount of fetch quests to keep you busy. There's not a lot of substance, but if you're looking for something to play which doesn't require too much brain power, this is it.

While Deathspank is not exactly a masterpiece in gameplay, the art style and writing are top tier as expected of a project that Ron Gilbert led alongside Clayton Kauzlaric. It is as it was pitched, "Monkey Island meets Diablo." If that doesn't sound like that would be a mix of influences to your liking, well... I feel sad for you. But fair enough.
Oddly enough it feels as though the namesake entry of the Thong Trilogy shows some influences that went right back into Monkey Island with Return to Monkey Island. as I come back to replay Deathspank.
As for any complaints, you will eventually tune out or turn off the in-game music because of the combat tracks. And the power scaling will lean playerside a majority of the time, with the occasional enemy type that you *have* to block or hit-and-run to not tear through resources. And the finale, while challenging, can be infuritaing if you're struggling to handle it like you would a raid boss from an MMO.
Overall a decent 8/10 that EA of all companies actually published.
I needed some time to get used to the combat (using the shield is mandatory!), but after that I think this is a great game! Funny to, with lots of stuff to do.

Absolutely an underrated game in my opinion. Combat feels good, weapons are fun to use, and the humor is the cherry on top. Art style is unique and fun to look at. Get this game while it is on sale, usually it goes on sale for less than $4. Have not played a ton yet but definitely will in the future.

This game has great humor, stylish graphics and sound as well as good game mechanics with fight and exploration. Lots of quests with very good voice acting and lots of corners on the map to conquer with many items to find. Easy progression mostly, some areas you might not be ready for as you may find out quickly. It gets a bit repetitive but the game length is still ok to cover for it.
I played this on the PS3 with my niece when she was in middle school. Still a fun game but mostly a time waster.

Well I wanted different than usual and that is what I got in this game. It had humor, it had weird side quests, and it had an even weirder ending. I will say that I really enjoy the game. The side quests were well done (some where bad fillers though). The weapons having a limit break style attack was cool and enjoyable. I got a decent amount of time in before beating it. And with that said I do think it is worth playing and enjoying.

Deathspank hits the right notes with its comedy and its action. While it has plenty of goofy and weird things existing as part of its world, the writing is clever to give you more to laugh at beyond the strangeness. The battle system letting you utilize multiple weapons gives you some range in combat and the enemies are placed well to give you some easy skirmishes for simple thrills as well as fights where properly managing a foe’s behavior is more crucial to taking them out. Some things do wear a touch thin on both sides of the experience, but neither completely wears out their welcome, and despite Deathspank literally calling his side quests unimportant, they give you a good deal of fun from their associated dialogue and the added reasons to head into danger to dish out some more over the top justice.

This game was goofy silly and good cringe and they spare at no expense.
The voice acting is well done and I got a great laugh out of it all.
Shorter game than I expected.
The whole block hit block hit block hit was kinda annoying and could use polishing.
The quest deliver system is not really good though. While you get fortune cookies, some drop the OBVIOUS hint that you already know what to do but some quests are so vague you may have to burn one or two.
Quest system is the weakest aspect of this game. Quests don't tell you the ORGIN where you got the quest orignally, and the map kinda doesn't do a good job guiding you there.
Beyond that, decent game and I certainly look forward to playing the sequel.

fun gameplay, fun dialogues, great artstyle and missions. Loved the series since I've played this in highschool!
I played the DeathSpank games back on the PS3, they still hold up to this day. Silly fun is what this game is all about and it does it well.
Honestly, the fact I played this game about 10 years ago, and came back to it just to finished the last set of quests says something good. Even despite all this time away, i still WANTED to come back to it. It's just a fun adventure, quirky, silly action RPG that has lingered in my mind all this time.

This game is delightfully dumb. The voice acting really makes it funny. It's not really an RPG... you level up but don't have choices. Just put on the best gear and run around dealing out justice by murdering creatures in the face. Nostalgic fun.

A simplified and somewhat dated action RPG with plenty of childish humour but a clunky and unrewarding combat system and game design. The combat’s very basic and the RPG mechanics don’t get in the way of the adventure but having to block all the time is annoying and healing takes way too long. Combine this with losing significant health quickly and it becomes a chore, as does the slow movement speed, repetitive weapons and clunky inventory system.
The lower camera angle lets you see all the great animations and enemy designs, each with enough character and humour to stand out, but the quests are boring and aren’t that funny, even in a parody way. It starts off fun and funny but becomes less enjoyable the more you play as you repeat fetch quests and backtrack for no real reason. There’s enough variety in the setting, but not in the enemies and the bosses are no different to the main enemies. The music’s catchy, the voice acting is good and the idea is fun, but it doesn’t quite deliver.
It's got good humor and very absurd writing, all thanks to Ron Gilbert. The art-style is stylized, hand-drawn 2D mixed with 3D, making for a distinct look. The combat is decent; there are a lot of weapons (melee, ranged) and armors to choose from, and while leveling, you can choose hero cards that provide bonus passives; combat also focuses on combos (alternating attacks between click and right click) to fill up the Justice meter and unleash a power attack. All quests are quite amusing, as the dialogue is clever and ridiculous and makes even fetch quests worthwhile. There's also drop-in/drop-out local co-op, making the game even more enjoyable, as a co-op partner can join at any moment. The only downsides are that the game can get repetitive after a while, as the combat is not very complex and the quests are not very challenging, but other than that, the game's very fun and a must-play.

Max health, that changes by armor, etc, is shown at equipment screen.
C.E., Type Float, Exact, then find decreased when hit. Freeze at max value.
Fury, violet level in mask: Float, increases from empty 0.0000 to full 1.0000 with hits on foes.
Find, freeze at value 1.0000, and get always instant 1 hit full Fury.

Гейплей Смертошлепа это упрощенный диаблоид и на половину текстовый квэст где нужно много читать и запоминать так как есть моменты в самом начале которые будут важны в конце.Боевая система здесь незамысловатая Блок/Удар/Суперудар(который зависит от оружия применяемого в момент использования супер удара)побор подходящего снаряжения/зелий и все в таком духе.
3)Визуальная составляющая
Визуальная составляющая в Deathspank простая но приятная в рисованном стиле , даже спустя большое количество времени со дня релиза она все так же приятно и оригинально выглядит.
4)Юмор
Юмор в Deathspank льется изо всех щелей и по этому лучше всего проходить данную игру только в оригинальной озвучке иначе будет потерян почти весь юмор что есть в Deathspank так как многое завязанно на игре слов и никто не отменяет трудности перевода.

Very fun Diablo-type game, but the voice of Deathspank gets on my nerves after a while.
A neat little Diablo-like adventure that is better than it has any right to be.
I am a 52 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing DeathSpank. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son found this game at Christmas, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. Loaded into the game world and started playing but I was stuck on what you were supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he helped me. Loved it as it was the best time had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.

This game, and the other they sell has a nasty DRM attached too it. If you haven't played the game for a bit it will require you to validate your files to ensure you purchased the game. Once the files have been validated you can then play.
This means you will not be able to play the game offline simply because if you can't validate the game files then they will not allow you to play it.
STAY AWAY from this game, and the other game they sell. This is one of the worst DRM's being used.
