Try surroundead if you want something more polished with the same feel and art style.
I like it, it feels like it has massive potential. It's just VERY empty right now and missing lots of essential multiplayer QoL features. I'll change this upon release and polish, but right now, i'd probably wait to buy it.
For what it is this game was fun to learn, some things need to be worked on like the crafting aspect, but again this game was fun, stuff id like to see in the future is a more flushed out world, less empty space when im driving around. new pistols and more attatchments. all and all i enjoyed the game ill be looking in on this one from time to time.
Good game but still needs a couple of good updates. It seems to be in some of its early stages.
Should still be in 100% Alpha Testing (Closed Dev Testing).

For me this game scratches my looting itch I get occasionally. As for the current state I'd say its on a good path, still needs work but I feel as though It could be a very fun zombie craft survival game when finished. I wish the dev/dev's luck in there venture's.

Let me preface this by saying I have been a long time fan of Open-World-Survival-Craft games and am currently developing my own as I write this. I know through my years of developing games that feedback, even if it is critical, is essential for improving and growing as a developer (English isn't my first language, so prepare for mistakes).
I'll just get right to the point:
DeadPoly is an okay game.
Let's go over the good and the bad.

GOOD:
-- BASE BUILDING --
One of the best aspects of the game and in my opinion it's only true redeeming quality. Almost every item, piece of furniture or even weapons and the likes are placable in the game world itself. The loot and furniture you find in the game world can be collected and later placed as well, combining crafting and looting in a novel way. This makes for an incredible sandbox experience.
-- ANIMATION --
The animations of the player and the zombies are pretty good. The players animations remind me of GTA 4, which is a good thing. Yes it may be a bit rough gameplay-wise but I would still count it as one of the better things in this game.

BAD:
-- THE MAP --
The game world itself is barren and empty for the most part. Buildings, especially in the main city (Garden City), are mostly devoid of any furniture or loot. An estimated 90% (not exaggerated) of buildings in Garden City do not have any furniture and around 50% (not exaggerated) of buildings have neither furniture nor loot inside of them. That's rough. And that little bit of loot that actually generates sometimes glitches through the floor, walls or even ceilings. At one point I found a gun stuck almost completely inside a wall and I was thus not able to pick it up. Doesn't make for a compelling experience imo. The rest of the map if fairly uneventful as well, mostly just being empty.
-- ASSETS (some of them) --
By assets in this context I specifically mean the 3D-models (e.g. buildings, vegetation, vehicles, etc.) and their assigned textures.
I'll start with the vegetation and the ground textures. They look kinda ass, which is surprising because I know the assets-packs the developer is using and there are some pretty good grass-models and ground textures already included. The grass DeadPoly is currently using just seems very out of place for a low poly game, especially since the trees are solid.
There is also not that much variation at all. The same buildings repeat and others just look kinda bad and out of place (e.g. That weird blue hotel by the bridge doesn't fit at all). Roads all look the same and there is no dirt or trash or anything of the likes anywhere.
-- GAMEPLAY --
The gameplay in this game is not very enticing to say the least.
The zombies are actually pretty rare in Garden City but abundant everywhere else (a random roadblock in the middle of nowhere has more zombies). The zombies themselves can be a threat at times, but are mostly just annoying because of how fast they are sometimes. Variation is also kinda lacking, which is especially bad when there isn't a ranged type of zombie. You can just get on a high enough object and the game is just solved.
The raiders are a nightmare. They have incredible vision, unlimited ammo and worst of all, they cannot target or be targeted by zombies. I had one of those raiders right outside my base and I went out through the back entrance, lured a few zombies to the front of my base and the raider just didn't care and neither did the zombies. The raiders seem to exist inside their own ecosystem. Pathfinding also routinely breaks. It just needs a lot of work still.
Leveling in this is also kinda weirdly designed. There are two seperate leveling systems, which could actually just be combined to one single and easier to understand system. That's just redundant and will most likely lead to problems later down the road. The necessary information regarding these two system are not communicated properly either, but I'll get to that later.
This is more of a nitpick, but still kinda interesting: When making a new world there is a warning message to not name the game world the same as one of your characters. Why? Because Unreal Engine Save-Files work with names. Essentially the developer just needs to make sure that even when the character-save-file and the world-save-file have the same name, the actual file saved has a prefix like CHARACTER or WORLD. This fix would probably take at max like 30 minutes to implement. I am sorry when I say this, but for a game that has been out for so long this is kinda embarrassing.
Stamina is weird as well. Depletes pretty fast but regenerates very slowly.
-- UI / UX --
The UI is just not it. Essential information is just not being communicated at all e.g. How do i level up? How much EXP do I need to get to the next level? What effect do destroyed limbs have? One limb has for example 55 Health, do I get negative effects at 40 or just when it reaches 0? What effect do guard rails, stocks or other attachments on weapons have? How much damage do certain weapons have? What ammo does a certain magazine need? Where is my base on the map? How much health do I have? (I know I can see that when I look at the inventory but health has the most relevance during fights, where I can't just open the inventory real quick) Where do I get materials like metal? Where is the trader the game tells me to find? When the player dies he gets to respawn at one of his beds, if he dies twice in a row the bed he spawned at last time is unavailable. Is this bed on a timed cooldown? Do I just wait until it's available? Or is it not possible to spawn at the same bed twice in a row? If it is timed, how long do I have to wait until I can respawn?
These are questions that I don't need answered in a reply to this review, or in some buried community-post. The player needs this information in the game itself. The player always needs to know what is goind on at any given time when it comes to UI.
-- BALANCING --
Atrocious. Some items are abundant, while others are insanely rare. I get that this is just regular game-design, but it's not well made in this game. Helmets are found literally everywhere, but gloves? It's almost like they don't exist.
Different melee-weapons have different stats regarding woodcutting or mining. Why? Just make dedicated tools for that and don't just randomize this stuff. It just leads to players time being wasted on searching for the best weapon for mining or woodcutting inside their already far too large storage.

There is more I could say regarding the vehicles or the first person stuff or hand placement and so on, but I think I have pointed out the more important stuff.
All in all, the building is fun.
Everything else? Not so much.

I don't like to leave long reviews but this will be as detailed as possible in my 80hours of playing this game so i can help you decide to make a purchase here.Please read this in detail as it is very important :)
So i have a lot of open world survival experience based on rust/dayz/valheim etc. This game is fun BUT after a certain point you really start to realize that a lot of stuff is missing/lacking and is really only built for the PvE community.I will break everything down into catagories here.
BUILDING:
Lets be honest here, there is a bit of creativity but i feel like its lacking direction.Military areas in any open world game you cannot build in for good reasons and in this game you can. Sounds like an awesome perk until you realize that they block off all the bunkers so you can't even get in and loot the area.As for building inside normal civilian buildings you can do that but it lacks creativity,you always never have enough room to build or even worse you cant build on higher floors and have to use metal bars or just a lot of doors.Also i have seen people wall off multiple buildings as you can build anywhere that dosnt have a flag and basically grief the whole entire server if you want to.
PVP:
This is the more frusterating part,Im not saying im a god at PvP or anything but values DO NOT add up.Me and some buddies did some tests and used a sniper that was maxed out on its values and it takes 4+ headshots to kill someone with head armor. That is appauling in my opinion, headshots should 1 shot or even 2 shot with good armor but 5 headshots makes snipers useless.The rest of the pvp seems fair and good, maybe the gun recoil could be adjusted but thats about it.
SURVIVAL MECHANICS:
These seem fine and realistic, hunger,thirst,temperature and injuries seem fair.
CRAFTING:
Crafting does taking a while but seems fair and just as well, you can craft in bundles for like ammo and all that so thats good and see no issue there really.
MAP DESIGN/EXPLORATION:
Map in certain parts are empty, buildings are empty and walking to certain parts of the map are comparable to watching paint dry. Also another big issues included in this is that players can actually pick up every single item in the house and it will never respawn like beds or dressers. So that means once its picked up that house will forever be empty. So it can make a massive town feel empty if someone does that.
SOUND:
This is GIGA BROKEN, on some materials you cant hear any footsteps,even running on the main road sometimes you cant hear footsteps.
CHEATERS:
Like i said before ive learned not to be angry and salty if i get killed or lose in a fight but i actually have video footage of people beaming me with a 9mm gun and quadruple headshotting me while i was moving.Or even people sniping me from the top of a mountain in the head while moving.I mean its pretty rediculous.
LACK OF RESPONSE:
As of this writing, the developer hasnt been on in 4 days.He wants any issues to be addressed to him directly. I havnt heard from him and i sent him all this footage and i basically gave up on playing on official servers as it severly discouraged me from hopping on to those servers. There is nobody else that can address these issues other than him so if he vanishes you are out of luck.
ENDING/SIDENOTE:
I bought this game for $1 and even if it was free i dont think it would be worth the trouble at this state to download it.

I was pretty happy with the game but a few of the later changes have ruined it for me. I don't know how much good gear I've lost, including the super-rare raid ready backpacks because of the changes.

I love the game, however there are clearly some updates that need to happen to make the game even better. I would like to see more quests, bosses, rare loot, weapons/gear, upgrading items is also good! I love the variety of vehicles but more would be nice. I also see there is an "under city" that says coming soon? I love the raiders idea aswell but their loot needs buffed. also player xp needs buffed aswell as the skills.
Since the dev took the time to respond, ill try to take the time putting a little effort into this.
This is quite a silly and fun game despite a few issues ive had. It feels like pubg and tarkov came together into a survival game. The random nature of loot is very interesting and kind of fits this game. Its very janky and weird at first but after an hour or two you get used to it and it gets pretty fun. Especially with friends, which is what i recommend playing with. The base building is its strong suit at the moment imo. I enjoy setting up somewhere and decorating.
The issues I have had so far are seemingly from some optimaization issues perhaps? The game runs great but sometimes randomly it will has problems. I do think a bigger part if it is having a base full of random crap we all collected and slapped down everywhere but there were a few times I would lose frames randomly out in the world. Not fully sure but im sure optimization is on the list of ongoing fixes and such.
Another was frequent crashing but apparently this is a more recent issue and hopefully will be fixed soon. That was really killing our enjoyment but ultimately we decided that the game still pretty silly and fun and we would all keep it.
Also one other thing is that probably more than not of buildings were pretty empty, it was kinda sad going through baren building picking up loot of the floors. There is furniture but it was a bit sparse. Maybe it was and rng thing? Hopfully whatever kind of algorithm that generates stuff will get better after a while.
Also dev im just sayin, maybe some time down the line after full release... Add some kind of battle royal mode? The kind of random nature of loot and pubg like gameplay makes me think if this were a different kind of game that actually might could be fun haha. But a sperate game mode later in the future if possible. Might be very silly and fun too.
Regardless, pretty good game for 10 bucks atm. Maybe if you experiencing lots of crashes try putting "-dx11" in your steam launch coomands/options. This actually worked for me and another person seemingly.

Ja macht spaß und es hat sich über die Jahre deutlich verbessert. Man kann sich entweder eine eigenes Haus bauen oder eines der bestehendes Häuser zu seiner Base machen. Es gibt Haufen zeug zu sammeln auch wen vieles davon leider sehr nutzlos erscheint aber man kann es mitnehmen und zuhause als decko nutzen. Bei den Bau möglichkeiten wünsche ich mir etws mehr auswahl. Zum beispiel das man vieleicht auf der karte Baupläne finden kann oder man Möbel welche man findet irgendwie untersuchen kan um sich daraus einen Bauplan daraus zu erstellen. Essen und trinken ist irgendwie nicht ganz fertig. Ja man findet schon genug aber es ist halt egal was man ist weil ich einfach alles esse was ich finde und es egal ist ob der eine Apfel jetzt 10 esse gibt und der muffin 15 wen auf dem boden 4 bis 5 verschiedene rumliegen. Vielleicht ein keines bisschen Farming könnte man einbauen. Samen sammeln und dan besseres esse zu bekommen mit dem man sich gerichte basteln kann welche buffs geben. Gerne auch Über quest erst feischaltbar. Beispiel ich finde einen farmer und er will das ich seine farm von Zombis reinige und bekomme dan ihn als händler um samen und andre farming items zu kaufen. Gleiches gilt auch bei abderen nps´s. Weil man hat leider nicht wirklich viel zu tun sonst. Auser sich seine giga base zu bauen und einrichten. Jagen würde auch ein passen also Tiere welche rumlaufen die angreifen oder wegrenne um die welt etwas zu beleben. Kämpfen ist leider etwas hakelig weil ich nicht ganz verstehe wo mein angriff wirklich hingeht. Nicht wirklich da hin wo ich hin schaue oder wo das fadenkreuz zeigt. Auch das Spieler model bewegt sich dauernt hin und her was das aufsammeln oder bauen echt erschwert. Aber es ist ein solides konstrukt auch das konzept gefält mir sehr. Schön zu sehen was sich alles getan hat seit Gronkh und Tobi es damals gespielt haben. Aber muss der entwickler wissen was er aus dem spiel noch alles machen will ist seine entscheidung. Bin gespant was noch kommt.
I played this game shortly after it came out, the layout of the maps and the way in which loot and crafting functioned seemed fine and even a bit fun for me. Essentially this game reminded me of a slightly more fledged out version of vanilla Unturned, I took a break to return a couple of years later only to find that somehow there was even less content and an even more empty world than I left. Staggeringly I am here two additional years later only to see that the game is not only still unfinished but only slightly over half way? 0.6.4? After <4 years> of development? Where you were using pre-made assets to begin with? What have you been doing aside from collecting criticism and paychecks from gullible players who aren't aware of just how unfinished this game is?
My advice to you wayward review reader is stay away from this game, don't humor the developer and do yourself a favor, at the glacial pace of the development thus far, wait another 2-3 years then come back.
Edit 02/23/2026: Due to the developer being so kind in the comments of this review I'm willing to make mention that in the future if said developer does stick with this I will happily change my review from a negative to a positive when the time comes. I will also try to leave the negative review in some way in order to show the drastic leap I hope to see from now to then somehow.
It's awful right now, but hopefully with time it will become something good.
(Edit to respond to the developer: The game world is too empty. Items spawn in completely randomly and often times through walls. Combat is not fun at all; aiming a weapon at the face has no effect either, which is kinda important against zombies. There is no progression.)

Honestly, its fun for a few hours, but there really isn't much endgame. I came across a lot of really annoying features. The 'bosses' are huge and tanky which makes sense, but they can run faster than you and take way too many bullets. I tried to snipe one from very far away with a rifle, used 3 mags, and it still took 2 60 round mags to take it down, and I only survived because I was on top of a car. I get that they should be bulky, but I shouldn't have to cheese the game to kill them. And as far as the 'endgame' goes, its a few bunkers that are more of a chore than anything else. They are filled with zombies that take multiple headshots to kill, which once again are not a great idea in my opinion. I get that bosses should be tanky but I am also a realist and a zombie enthusiast. One headshot should be all it takes to kill any zombie, and these bunkers are filled with dozens of them. I had good gear and ended up having to hide beneath a staircase to cheese it. Everything this game has, Surroundead does better. Also the random ♥♥♥♥ that clutters in every building is so dumb. Every building is completely empty but has random crap strewn around, and I'm not talking about bits of junk its like oh lets put a katana, a bunny outfit, a piano, and a roman helmet all in the same room. Feels like the devs are either trying too hard to be quirky or they are just lazy.
When you come back a few years later to see what progress has been made... Just leaving this here to remind me why I don't buy early access.

But the thing is... the lack of updates to finish the game are evident.
In my opinion:
There is not many guns to play with.
Servers are quickly dying after 1 or 2 sessions.
Suprisingly game its self has good perfomance not like many other indie games.
I love the concept of this game, just needs a little ironing out. Love the collecting and decorating part, keeps things interesting. Game does lack end game content and server customization, but i'm sure in time this will be fixed. Pick this up on sale, you will definitely get a few hours of fun :D
Please add Russian to the game.

not finished enough
I chose the recommend option but I am not really sure what to choose, this game has a solid baseplate, but there are many things I personally don't like or hate. For instance I absolutely hate the total randomness of the loot, every zombie I kill has very random loot ranging from a wardrobe to a machine gun. I think the zombies should not have furniture in their inventory because you can already just pick up those that you find in buildings, also I think the normal zombies you find everywhere should not drop military weapons because it kind of kills the idea of bunkers and military zones, why should I look for a key that opens such area if I can find op guns from a normal zombie. What I would do is increase the chance of zombies dropping healing items, ammo and consumables and lower the chance for furniture. Also, for some reason every time I start my world the options automatically set to hard no matter what I had set before and I am not sure if they really work because it feels like they deal the same damage to me and it doesn't matter what option I have chosen. The world options need to be expanded more, they should add some chance settings - like being able to lower or raise the number of zombies, chance for good loot etc.. I have to mention the level system too which I don't really understand because it doesn't show your progress till the next level anywhere. I don't like that the stats for melee weapons are randomized, I like more if each weapon has preset stats. Lastly I think there shouldn't be achievements that require you to change the version of the game and I think that you should be able to craft the cardboard wings for one achievements because I have spent few hours just looking for those and I found none, but I do understand that achievements aren't as important as keeping the game in a playable state.

- Some quests are impossible in singleplayer (e.g. Player Killed from Ghost)
- Audio breaks when it's raining or when you have more than one car running at the same time
- Some mechanics are not explained and are really confusing (like farming, the distillery, etc.)
- Some items exist but have no clear use (like 9V batteries)
- There are no real hints or the ability to set markers on the map, so you have to remember everything, and if you're looking for something specific, information on the internet is limited
- Inventory management is annoying due to all the dragging of items required, especially for/into nested bags
- Car batteries drain unrealistically fast
- The skills system is really confusing — after 30 hours, I’ve only been able to learn 2 skills. There’s no XP bar, I’ve killed lots of zombies and completed all the quests. Also, passive skills level up way too slowly to the point of being useless
- Updates are not very frequent, as it seems the game is developed by only one person, which might also explain why many assets are from the UE catalog. It has been in Early Access for 3 years now

What is going on?! This game is a gem that I wish I pulled the trigger on earlier. My primary genre is survival games like SCUM and DAYZ, but I don't always have the time or energy to invest into those games. This is more of a survival lite but you get to keep all the good stuff like PvP and Raids, plus you don't feel as defeated as you do in the other titles i mentioned when you do die. I do not and cannot understand the negative reviews for a $10 Early Access game. I felt obligated to go ahead and start up a server to ensure people have a place to go back to every day and pick up where they left off. 10/10 Keep up the great work. Find us on "40 HOUR WEEKS"
So far it is a pretty fun game, Finding healing items isn't exactly easy (Literally haven't found even one) but all in all I think the game is fun and worth the play through.
This is a tough one. I like the visuals. the engine runs smoothly. The bulding aspect is promising. The biggest issue the game has is the world iteself. The map is fine, but the placement of loot and furniture is completly random. Nothing makes sense. In PZ for instant, if you need guns, you are looking for a police station or military checkpoint. if you need medicine you looking for a doctors office. Here you find weapon and car parts in random bathrooms, gas cans in hotelrooms. The buildings for the most part are completly empty, have no windows or stuff is clipping through walls everywhere. It is like a movie set with glitches. It doesn't feel someone lived here before the apocalypse. At this point currently i think SurrounDead is the better game. It has also issues, but the world doesn't feel like a random placement of assets.
