For those that don't want to read the entire review, here's a quick summary of my thoughts:
[b][u] It's an enjoyable game with some memorable moments and a solid gameplay, but expect a fair few odd choices and some things that will annoy you. [/u] [/b]
With that out of the way, allow me to summarize my thoughts on the game, after playing it on and off for almost 5 years.
[h3] General Thoughts[/h3]
In a world where a lot of indie games can be hit or miss, Dead Estate is most certainly a hit in my book. There's a lot of the game that I still go back and enjoy, and that's down to the fact that the game isn't trying to rewrite the book on roguelikes, just making its own spin on it. The main gameplay loop is nothing too out of the ordinary; you fight room to room, collect money and trinkets to power up your character and beat one the game's [i]many[/i] bosses and final bosses.
The story is secondary to games like this, which has its ups and downs that I'll come back to later. But it's serviceable for the game you're playing: You play as one of ten characters who find themselves locked up in the Valentine Estate, and need to fight your way to the top to escape.
Your typical run will last anywhere between 20 minutes to an hour depending on what ending you're trying to go for. The game is easy to play, but there is a learning curve as each enemy you encounter does something different, and they're usually unique to one floor. Learning each of the enemies moves and countering them is a fun experience, and luckily, they're not that hard to learn as there are [b]a LOT[/b] of enemies to cover; and that's before we get into Chunks.
Chunks serves as both a mini-boss on each floor and the game's way of pushing you along. He is built like a truck and hits like one, too. You don't get to see his health, and he heals for a portion of it every time you switch a room, meaning that your runs can end on an early note if you're not fast or deadly enough. Later he becomes more nuisance than menace, but if you do manage to knock him down - not kill, just knock him down - you get a Chunks Medallion for your trouble. I've got problems with the medallions but that'll be for later.
The game's cast of playable characters range from very fun to very 'meh'. Jeff and Jules are great starting characters and Cordelia is by far the fan favorite for a reason. But other characters such as Boss and Mumba also have been blasts to play - I've played them more than the Booby Witch because they are a rush. The rest of the cast can be interesting for challenge runs, but their gameplay style are all over the place in terms of fun and difficulty. I would say only one of them was so good it was boring. Still, if you're looking to either challenge yourself or do a quick run, Luis, Digby, Lydia, Fuji and Axel are there for when you want to play them.
[h3] Some Gripes With The Game [/h3]
Although I've talked a lot about what I like about Dead Estate, there are some things about the game that will start to grate on you. The Chunks medallions are the most blatant example of this. Taking out Chunks once per run will reward you with one, meanwhile completing a run will reward you with an additional 3-4 depending on your ending. This isn't so bad until you realize what the medallions are used for. Each character has special "Cursed Objects" that modify future runs. Each of these cost 12 medallions and you need to get all three to get each character's C-costume. This means you'll need over a hundred medallions, and the shop can only be found on looped runs, and only by chance. This turns what should be a fairly fun extra gameplay loop into a nasty grind for very little returns. At least Cory's costume is neat.
Assignment Anya is a fun little game-in-a-game where you get to explore the Valentine Estate in a different light. You get lore bits in the this game mode too. The problem is that the mode can take longer than most runs and you definitely feel like the game wasn't designed for this kind of slower pace. It's not too hard, and you'll likely get faster the more you play it.
There are 200 achievements in this game, requiring you to experience all that the game has to offer and beat it on its hardest challenges. Back when it first came out, this was a pain to do, especially with [i]certain ballaches of challenges[/i] but it was still possible. I 100%'d the game when it first dropped. But now with almost twice that many? And most requiring you to interact with the less fun aspects of the game? I'm not surprised most of the achievements have only 1-2% of all players completing it.
[h3]Let's Address The Gay Elephant In the Room[/h3]
If you're not aware of this: Cordelia is in a lesbian relationship with Fuji. This is confirmed from promotional material to the developer team themselves. This isn't [i]Woke[/i] or whatever; The developers were pretty clear from the start that they wanted this to be the case. It is a very bold choice to make the character who's the sole reason why most people know about the game to be in a lesbian relationship, especially because her milkshakes bring all the boys [i]and[/i] the girls to the yard. I actually don't mind them including it because they were upfront about it; better than retconning it in like some games do.
[b][u][i]The problem is that it's not that good.[/i][/u][/b]
Remember when I said there were downsides to having the story being secondary? One of those is that most of the characters in Dead Estate feel like cardboard cutouts. Luis is a cop, Lydia is a businesswoman, Digby is a boy scout, Axel is an annoying ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and Fuji... is The Lesbian. Pretty much every mention of Fuji comes from Cordelia, and it's just [i]"OMG I miss/love my big strong girlfriend! ;w;"[/i]. I wish I was joking, and it just feels... [i]wrong[/i]? Like more could have been done there but MilkbarLads didn't for one reason or another. Then when you play as her, it's pretty clear that Fuji's one of the Main Characters. She snowballs the hardest in ANY difficulty. It gets to a point where you can easily get half of the original achievements with Fuji alone, like I did. This gets boring quick, though, since you are forced to do same build over and over again as her entire kit is a one trick pony of punching really hard.
Normally I wouldn't even mention any of this this because it'd usually be a secondary aspect like with some other characters. Did you know Luis was Bisexual? How about Boss being Asexual? Probably not because there are other parts of the characters that take the spotlight.
But when it comes to Cordelia and Fuji? [b]They are in your face about it. All the time. Inside the game and out of it.[/b] And over the course of the updates this got more obvious that this is one of the big things they wanted people to take away from it. To the point where [b][i][u]It's no longer a horror roguelike, it's a Lesbian love-story with zombies in it.[/u][/i][/b] I'm not saying it's the worst part of the game, but if someone told me they thought it was, I wouldn't have to ask why.
[h3] Conclusions [/h3]
Although I have my gripes about the game, and wish some things that were done better. I still recommend Dead Estate, especially if you're new to the Roguelike genre as a whole. It's a great game to play every now and then, especially during October. Even if you don't complete every achievement, it's still a fun, challenging experience and the cast of characters are unique enough that you can find some crazy build that shouldn't work for each of them, save one. It goes on sale fairly regularly, but even then, the 15 dollar asking price is well worth what you're getting. I can see why it's one of Newground's best indie titles and why so many people fell in love with this game.

De los mejores del su genero que he probado, tiene una cantidad de contenido muy grande aunque se queda corto contra juegos como Isaac pero a mi parecer es la cantidad justa de contenido como para que no te satures. Los objetos son buenisimos y tienen una gran cantidad de sinergias entre si, puedes hacer cosas rotisimas como oneshotear al jefe fina si conseguiste las stats y objetos correctos. La musica y la atmosfera es uno de los apartados que me vendio este juego, se nota que proviene del viejo newgrounds, ese estilo a veces de terror con momentos tensos me pareces espectacular. Tiene un arte esquisito acompañado de una historia que me hizo querer saber mas aunque el final verdadero es una especie de cliff hanger que no se sabe si retomaran. En general un increible experiencia: 9/10.

这个游戏太爽了，应该是我玩的第一个肉鸽游戏，之前看新史低好便宜就入手了一个，玩起来才发现真好玩，难度在线，items全搞伤害叠起来以后是真爽，一开始还说两百个成就估计搞不完随便玩玩算了，结果到现在已经沉迷50h做了一百多个成就了，强力推荐！！！！

Итак, я вообще не любитель рогаликов и на Dead Estate наткнулся случайно — через рекомендации Steam примерно год назад. Тогда глянул, подумал «вроде прикольно» и забыл. А недавно увидел её на распродаже игр этой студии и взял за 70 рублей, чисто из любопытства.
Запускал без особых ожиданий. Думал, затянет на пару часов — и всё, очередной рогалик «ну норм», поиграю и забуду. Но как же я ошибался.
Первое, что меня зацепило, — визуальный стиль. Игра выполнена в изометрической перспективе с пиксельной графикой, и это выглядит реально необычно. Сочетание кажется простым, но ощущается объём, это прикольно.
Дальше — контент. Открываешь новые предметы, локации, персонажей. Проходит часов десять, и ты уже думаешь, что вот-вот всё закончится. Но такие мысли возвращались ко мне каждые 5–10 часов, и каждый раз игра подкидывала что-то ещё: новая локация, новый враг, новая механика, очередная концовка, ещё одна уникальная катсцена, другой режим (!?) — и снова ловишь себя на мысли, что она ещё не показала всё, что у неё есть. За 80 часов ощущения «ну теперь точно всё» так и не появилось.
Очень кайфовое — это мелочи. Всякие приколы, отсылки, пасхалки и вообще разные детали, которые, казалось бы, можно было вообще не добавлять. Половину из них даже и не вспомню, но разработчики запарились и сделали. В совокупности всё это создаёт ощущение невероятной цельности. Каждый раз, когда натыкаешься на что-то подобное, удивляешься, как это сделали небольшая группа людей, а некоторые крупные компании почему-то так не заморачиваются. Видно, что игру делали с душой, потому что хотели, а не потому что «надо».
Когда я узнал, что проект, вроде как, начинался как что-то конкурсное, сделанное маленькой группой людей, а потом годами дорабатывался и обрастал контентом — всё встало на свои места. И на этом фоне цена выглядит вообще сюрреалистично — даже без скидки это какие-то 170 рублей. За такой объём это просто удивительно.
Теперь о минусах. За всё время я заметил только несколько вещей. Бывали незначительные баги с врагами — иногда кто-то мог улететь за рамки карты или застрять вне комнаты. Ничего критичного, но пару раз такое происходило.
Плюс неудобная система подбора итемов. Ты просто подходишь к пушке — и она автоматически подбирается, а предыдущая мгновенно исчезает, буквально распадается на атомы. Несколько раз я случайно подбирал вообще ненужный мне ган, и моя топовая пушка просто пропадала без шанса вернуть её обратно. Хотелось бы отдельную кнопку для подбора.
И ещё момент — из-за изометрической перспективы иногда трудно понять траекторию проджектайлов врагов. Просто не успеваешь разобраться, куда именно он летит и где приземлится, и даже спустя десятки часов иногда ловишь урон именно из-за этого.
Игра, между прочим, не особо известная, как минимум не очень много отзывов и мало тех же гайдов. Поэтому для меня это реально hidden gem. Без преувеличений — искал серебро, нашёл алмаз.
Отдельно выбило то, что в какой-то момент игра буквально меняет жанр и превращается в пиксельный Resident Evil. Я этого вообще не ожидал. Сидишь в бодром рогалике — и вдруг начинается совершенно другой вайб, от чего я просто выпал.
Изначально ожидания у меня были довольно низкие, а лучше сказать*никакие*, потому что рогалики — не мой жанр. Тот же The Binding of Isaac мне когда-то показался интересным, но надолго не затянул ни по стилю, ни по геймплею, хотя я знаю, что у него огромная фан-база, в отличие от Dead Estate, которая почему-то осталась в тени и не получила должного внимания.
Она буквально затянула меня на недели. Я отложил другие проекты и каждый день заходил с мыслью «что я сегодня ещё открою?» - новый уровень? скин? кусочек сюжета? катсцену? очередное обличие ведьмочки Корделии?)) — и всё это реально мотивировало продолжать.
Игра по-настоящему раскрывается спустя десятки часов, ей нужно дать время и самому пройти через всё это. Это, кстати, сами разработчики иронично признают в одном из режимов: в финальных титрах они рофлят над собой, над плюсами и минусами игры и прямо говорят, что ей нужно время, чтобы раскрыться. И в этом они абсолютно правы.
В итоге игра настолько меня удивила и затянула, что я подарил её всем своим возможным друзьям в Steam, тем более по скидке, просто чтобы поддержать разрабов. И это, наверное, лучший показатель того, насколько она мне зашла.

I decided to 100% this game and im glad I did. I love rougelikes and this game filled my itch for a new one. Them game is very replayable, story is nice, love the characters and just overall a fun ass game. Would recomend if you had some money to spend.

Nice addictive loop provides that incentive to play just "one more". Pretty easy, I've gotten to the first roll credits within my first half dozen tries in under 4 hours and I'm no elite player. That said (I mean this with the utmost respect and honor due one of the most influential titles in the genre), This game feels like playing TBOI all over again. 9/10 and 10 worth every penny, especially on sale. I expect to get another 40+ hours out of the various difficulties and characters given what I can see this is a conservative estimate, do yourself a favor. If you're here because you're looking for an entertaining roguelike with a catchy loop, buy it now. If you're looking for groundbreaking content and never before seen gameplay, scroll back up to the price tag, adjust your expectations and then buy it. One of my new favorites.

Классный рогалик, много персов с талантами и со своим loadout'ом, можно loop'ить раны и проходить по много раз пока не станешь альтимейт юнитом и только потом пойти на босса, очень красиво нарисованные пиксель мультики когда проходишь индивидуальный ран за нового персонажа, общий лор передаётся через них, тут ещё много пушек забавных, и музыка задорная тутуту туту тутуу, можно качать свои статы, покупать оружия, таланты, через ведьмочку она на всех этажах встречается, концепт игры как в резике, особняк, зонбе, мутанты, лаборатории, и вообще милая игра

it is a fun game but the perspective makes this game unplayable for me, it is kinda awful to play a game with this view, if it was top down like Enter the gungeon i would have a Blast playing this, sorry but i have to give this game a pass, maybe other people might enjoy this game.

This is the kinda of game you try to 100%, getting achievements and getting all the endings is so satisfying to do. The only real complaint I have is with the game is a minor issue with the item "Old reel", Could there be added some clarity on which elevator is which? they are both grey and I can't tell.
Eu acabei comprando esse jogo principalmente pela bruxinha tetuda na capa, e depois de tanto me masturbar até minha pica gozar verde eu acabei percebendo o quanto esse jogo é bom.
A movimentação desse jogo é simples e muito gostosinha, basicamente um biding of Isaac que da pra pular. o jogo como qualquer rogue like tem diversas armas e acessórios, mas esse acaba adicionando uma mecânica de maldições, que acabam mudando a gameplay de forma positivas e negativas e acabam variando de personagem para personagem.
Além das mecânicas e gameplay o jogo ambém esta recheado de artes lindas e tesudas muito bem a companhadas de uma puta de uma trilha sonora, chega fiquei molhadinho com musica da bossfight final do awekening.

Esse é facilmente um dos meus roguelikes favoritos!! O seu maior defeito é a comunidade quase 100% morta, o que é muito triste por sinal, esse jogo é bom demais pra cair no esquecimento.
O jogo tem uma quantidade boa de personagens pra se jogar, cada um com uma característica que o diferencia dos outros.
No começo o jogo pode parecer só um "Nossa, só tem essa bruxa peituda e acabou", mas pprt, vejam o jogo além disso, a história dele é boa demais e muito fofa também!
A variedade de armas é considerável. Tem muitos itens interessantes também.
E como um grande fã da franquia Resident Evil, adorei as referências que o jogo possui.
Todos os personagens possuem 4 skins, cada uma desbloqueada de maneira específica, o que para mim, acrescenta bastante da rejogabilidade.
Cada personagem possui 3 finais diferentes, o que dá uma boa enchida nas horas de gameplay, mas não de maneira ruim.
Esse jogo também possui desafios que você desbloqueia com o decorrer das suas "zeradas".
Minha única reclamação é a Hitbox de alguns inimigos, as vezes incomoda, de resto, o jogo é maravilhoso, to em busca da platina!
Obs: todas as dlc's são gratuitas!!

real hidden gem. very very fun game to play if you like game's like enter the Gungeon. this game has a lot to be explore, a lot of secret that you have to figure out by try playing in a difference way.
there is a lot of guns, a lot of items and a lot of funny creepy stuff. also CHUNK !! that chasing you feel like go back to resident evil 3 which i think it was very cool game idea.

I'm going to be making a few extremely old references here, please bear with me. I'm sure that there are much more current comparisons out there, but hey, I'm old school, baby.
This game immediately made me think of three games in particular: Monster Party (NES), Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti (Famicom), and of course, Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES/Genesis). To clarify, what those three games have in common is: they are light-hearted horror games where you fight *crazy* types of monsters. They always had you waiting to see what insane movie monster would be waiting for you, or maybe a flying fried shrimp, you just never knew what was going to be there. This game is exactly like that, and while the gameplay is different from the old games that I mentioned (it actually IS kind of like ZAMN though), it keeps that spirit for the love of horror going strong. While I'm talking about similarities, there is actually something else that those three games, and this one as well, have in common: fairly high difficulty. This game isn't exactly a walk in the park, and being a roguelike, you're *going* to be dying quite often, just be forewarned.
The variety of enemies is pretty good here, and it's not just reskinned/recolored enemies all of the time. The gameplay is smooooooth, baby, and the controls are intuitive and responsive. The graphics are top-notch if you like retro-styled games. It almost felt like it *could* have been one of those old classics back in the day... but this one is way better than those ones, I'm going to be totally honest. They've taken the essence of those games and distilled it to the point of near perfection.
I'm actually upset at myself for not hearing about this game for so long, this is a game that I would have played as a kid, as a teen, and now as a grouchy old-ish fart. I fully intend to spend many hours with this game, and I very well might have to, since there are a whopping 200 achievements. Highly recommended.

+cohesive art design, music, and atmosphere, with an oldschool survival horror-meets-camp vibe
+character selection variety is fantastic, including individual "curse" modifiers that can severely alter playstyle
+the alternate floors and ending routes are well designed from both art & gameplay perspective. you really haven't played the game until you've gone through the "Awakening" route
+-the timed "Chunks" mechanic is good for sense of urgency but feels overly pushed at higher difficulties
+-the floors are very predictable in terms of size, room types, enemy types, shops, bosses, etc. This helps planning & run strategizing but can lead to staleness when going for every ending with every character. Having the mansion itself change according to character could have helped here.
-secret room hunting feels like a waste of time and yet essential. walking along all walls of every room is tedious but you're nerfing yourself if you don't do it
-some items are detrimental and there's no way to remove unwanted items from your inventory. It is quite easy to accidentally pick up undesirable items, some of which are run-ruining bad
-the bonus Challenges range from annoying to completely unfair. the biggest miss.

Dead Estate cuenta con una modalidad roguelike y una similar a los resident evil clásicos, suma horror y comedia.
Es divertido, sencillo pero te atrapa. Te hace pasar un buen rato y no lo digo por las tetazas, aunque en parte sí, tiene mucho más que dar que solo tetas.
This game is the worst game i have every played, however, it is so good i love it, if you dont like hard games, then this one isnt the one for you, but if you enjoy getting brain cancer and becoming a depressed boy, then i highly recommend this game
Should you buy Dead Estate?
Did you like the music video a few moments ago? The art style and theme? Do you like games like the binding of isaac? If the anwser is yes just get the game already. That's what I did and the dopamine rush was worth it. If the games on sale deff pick this up.
In the end, even for a rogue-lite, it's repetitive.
Every run feels the same, despite playing challenge runs, despite the changing difficulty, despite the many characters, it's always the same.
Game's got a bit of charm, and the knockers are a GREAT addition but in the end, I did not find it fun.
For the price it's fine. But I feel like there are far superior twin stick shooters out there for a similar price.
It's fine. Nothing to call home about but it [i]is[/i] charming and fun.
Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews to realize they're mostly about the big booby witch lady.
For the style of game this is, it's quite good. I was personally hoping for faster and snappier movement/shooting but I can't hold it against the game since it's my own fault that I didn't try the demo.
That being said, if anyone knows a game that scratches the Synthetik itch please comment.

Esse é simplesmente um dos ROGUE-LIKE mais divertidos que joguei até o momento, eu simplesmente adorei o carisma que ele trás, suas músicas (principalmente a do chefe final) são absurdamente BOAS. Eu extremamente recomendo o jogo para qualquer um que esteja atrás de uma jogatina divertida, o jogo tem muitos personagens que você desbloqueia ao decorrer das suas jogatinas ou através dos desafios, além das Skins que também são liberados em sua maioria zerando o jogo ou realizando desafios.
Acho que literalmente tudo funciona nesse jogo, e alguns pequenos bugs que acontecem podem ser resolvidos facilmente, os mais banais o próprio corrigi, como inimigos indo pra fora da sala. Enfim, definitivamente faz jus as suas inspirações, suas referências também são sensacionais.
