Update - I still don't know what I'm doing but I'm having a blast. The campaign is a bit peculiar and unexpectedly tough after the first easy missions are done. Definitely recommend!
Update a 50+ - Multiplayer is where this game shines. Use a vpn like zerotier and it's an easy connection and setup. The multi-station mode is a blast!
I’ll just say that I cannot get this to run from steam on windows 10 without downloading some file from some guy,maybe. But I can get it to run out of the box using a different service, which is Good. Because I am Old, and I like Games.
You might have a hard time getting to run this now, but I remember the times I played this on CD way back in the 2006 era. Man.. I'm old now.

Simply the best and only modern submarine simulator available on the market. There are no other games that offer the true challenge of being the commander of a vessel whose main purpose is situational awareness. You need to know how to play it, there are many bugs, but just as many mods that can enhance the experience.

Si bien el launcher tiene 103 minutos abiertos, lo habre jugado unas 12 hs y puedo confirmar que no lo recomiendo, fue muy realista y bueno en su epoca, pero hoy el Command Modern Operations con el Tac View ofrece mejores gráficas y más realismo para el mismo propósito de este juego. Si uno lo juega en modo Arcade, entonces el SEA POWER es realmente un mejor juego.

I like that game. Graphics are not the best and I acutally had trouble running it on Windows 11. But it works now on Linux via Proton! Its very technical with all the station and all that but its fun. I think its one of the best naval sims out there.
As others have mentioned, this is a PIA to get to work on Windows 10. I tried following guides and could not get the game to start without crashing, so waste of money. Don't pay attention to those brushing it off as if it takes no effort to get this working on a newer computer - after a long time following guides and searching for solutions, I still couldn't get it working.

Might require some tweaking to get this to run on a modern system, but if you like the concept of Sea Power or Cold Waters yet find their simulational aspect too shallow (he he), definitely give Dangerous Waters a try. It's a much deeper (ho ho) game, though without a dynamic campaign.

I struggled and googled how to get it working on Windows 10. I got it working. I also got the extensions to work and now I don't dare to download it anymore :D But there's nothing to do, it's the best naval battle simulator so far and there's no better one yet. As long as nothing is done to beat it, I'll keep using it

El mejor simulador de submarinos y en esta entrega también se podían controlar otros vehículos que a nivel jugable se hacen muy interesantes. Único juego en el que puedes controlar submarinos modernos (Excepto anteriores entregas y cold waters).
Descargando el .dll correcto podrás jugarlo sin problema y existen mods en 'subsim.com' que añaden funcionalidades y más misiones. Muy recomendable.

깊은 바닷속에서 다양한 소나를 사용해 음파를 분석하는데 대부분의 시간을 보내는 게임이다.
출시된 지 20년 가까이 된 게임인데 장비를 조작하는 게 메인 콘텐츠라 밖을 감상할 일은 많지 않기 때문에 그래픽이 그리 중요한 게임은 아니다.
오디오나 인공지능의 수준이 상당히 높다.
그래픽만 리마스터해서 지금 나와도 충분히 인정받을 만한 게임이라 생각된다.
윈도우 10, 11에서는 정상적으로 구동이 되지 않고 인터넷에서 파일을 받아 여러 패치 과정을 거쳐야 구동이 되는데 아쉬울 따름이다.

You want my opinion? Well it is an impossible game which is not giving any clue to what you've done wrong. Bqsing on several trials of missions (easy ones): autocrews is not functional. Like mostly Hull Sonar is simplu off-line. Autocrew does find contacts but never identifcates those contacts. I mean if a contact is clearly land based it should be classified as so, but no it stays unclassified in all means. Now get to on scenario which has driven me to this commentary; Dirty Atol. Meaning of the scenario you've got to measure the radiation on two spots around an atol where the French did their nuclear essays. Now each time no matter how I enter the first zone, no matter how much I penetrate to the north, at once I'm hacving damage, First the counter measures ans then after completing that zone mostly the torpedos. But that would not worry since I'm not in an attack mode. But the worry is this; what did cause those damages? Why my crew did not detect anything? But it is even worse: those minor casualties should not stop me from ending my lission. Knowing I'm not going to attack who soever before knowing he did engage the attack. But the point is that my engine is damaged and thre is no report to this and is thus not being assumed in reparation (which by the way you cannot do manually). So you cannot advance anymore. So mission impossible to complete. Why? I do not now because I even don't know what hit me. A Mine? A Torpedo? A Missile? But then why my autocrew did not even signal it's presents. What do you devs want? Me, myself and I is just one lonely person. Do you want me to fill in the tasks of about 50 people (And here I mean people doing suveyonce)? Impossible!!
You've wanted to go greater as simple submarine, you've wanted to be better as Jane's Ciombat. Well, you have failed. Final Word.

Started out playing Crash Dive on Android. Then Red Storm Rising (venturing into Cold Waters)
And some google search result said DW is the king.
It was all overwhelming at first. So many buttons (like how Highfleet overwhelmed me -- such a great aerial navy sim), so much to read, so much to understand, especially about sonar and TMA.
FPS Chazly really got me into it with his tutorial vids, especially the cumulative series. Worth a watch if you want to really dive deep into DW.
Nothing beats tracking a ghost sonar signal contact, assessing the speed and how near or far it is using the DEMON (brighter intense colors - contact could be nearer, especially at slow speeds), the drawing tools for assessing weapon distance, setting up the activation time and depth ceiling of the torp, and manually flooding, equalizing, and muzzle dooring the torp.
The excitement really begins when the DEMON sonar of the contact goes haywire, passing 5, then 8, then 17 knots, rushing to avoid your torp while you check the narrowband and TMA as to where the hell is your contact going, then adjusting the active torp's bearing.
Then, an explosion. "Loud explosion bearing 105."
A feeling that will never get old, especially when fighting 3 akula improved subs.
12/10 worth learning. The skills of planning, plotting, analyzing, and assessing you gain from this game are things I currently can apply in real life. Lastly, it has made me realize why my late father, a seafarer for a merchant shipping company, loved his work as an chief ship engineer.

This is a very good naval warfare sim. Not much needs to be said other than the game has issues working on new machines even though the games prior to this one are ready after installing.
The game supports modding and this reason alone gives the game a lot of replay value. Especially for those who have scenarios from old forums downloaded somewhere on their old HDD.
Other than that the game is pretty much an evolution of Fleet Command.
It's a near perfect balance of a sim and a game for me. Very relaxing until it's suddenly not and things are going crazy.
There isn't terribly much "button pressing simulator" bureaucracy and learning to get over before you can actually play.
The campaign is good, but the Red Storm Rising (https://www.subguru.com/dwmissions.htm) was better.

非常好的一款游戏，在现代海战游戏中硬核区只有危险水域是唯一真神，冰冷海域只能算是俄罗斯原神高级版。危险水域的突出亮点在于态势感知，那种只能对着仪表盘与电子屏进行水下捉迷藏的沉浸感和在水声学方面的专业程度是其他游戏无法比拟的(举报Sonalysts炸鱼，攀不上美国海军就来碾压游戏公司是吧）什么？现代海战全方面碾压危险水域？但是那游戏都还没出呢！得益于开发商的硬实力，危险水域整体的游戏玩法也是大致还原了现代海战的操作流程，从声呐到火控一应俱全，而且都是相当精细，在这方面也是无人望其项背。
但是油管有个博主说得很好，危险水域最大的缺点不是画面（当你坐在漆黑的声呐显示屏前，无论是蓝光8k超清大屏还是显像管电视机都是平等的），而是愚蠢的AI。这里的AI不会编队航行（除非任务作者强行安排路线，但依然不会分工合作），永远诚信1v1（除非你上了数据链，这也是为啥你的水狗被无畏级揍的时候阿利伯克只是慢悠悠地路过，你得升起天线杆杆告诉阿利伯克它身边顶着AK100的家伙真的不是通美俄军他才愿意开火）甚至驱逐舰在潜艇先发射鱼雷时都无法及时反击。因为这个游戏只是一个零几年的游戏，在这一点上危险水域比冰冷海域差很多，至少冰冷海域的AI懂得编队作战。AI差劲的唯一好处就是，给萌新足够的空间适应游戏操作，不至于游戏还不会玩先被人机一套秒杀。
虽然AI十分差劲，但是危险水域还可以多人联机（虽然人很少，还需要专门的软件）。在多人联机模式中，游戏的难度和复杂程度大大提高，大佬都懂得来骗来偷袭，而萌新基本和我一样TMA都不做就直接发射鱼雷。危险水域还有一个特点，入门门槛极高，没有中文加上极复杂的操作两大劝退幻神几乎来多少玩家就抬走多少玩家，解决办法就是：上网找教程，进群找大佬。B站有翻译的教程，也有大佬亲自操刀教学。
总之，虽然缺点挺明显，危险水域仍然是目前没有替代品的游戏，强烈推荐各位硬核玩家，海军魔怔人，潜艇爱好者游玩。

Easily, without a doubt, the best naval simulation 'game' out there. You can learn from trial and error, watching videos online, or going through the 558 page manual, but you will have to learn. And with each new thing you learn you'll become a better player. I've put thousands of hours into Dangerous Waters, it's just that good.
Less of a learning curve and more of a learning cliff. Combined with some tweaks for Windows 10/11 and the Reinforce Alert (RA) mod. This is everything you need.
Once it clicks, though. It CLICKS. And virtually all other naval combat sims will pale in comparison. Only Silent Hunter 5 with some mods might get close, but even then, this is more modern combat and isn't limited to just submarines.
It's dated, sure. But the 3D view is barely used and everything you need can be achieved from the HUD. You wouldn't have a 360 camera view in a real sub.
I wish they'd release a sequel, but they've moved exclusively into actual military sims, which should give you some idea of how serious they were about this game.

While the missions are well designed Story wise the campaign feels inferior to SubCommand and 688(I) Hunter/Killer. There are no liveaction videos or narration for the campaign.

Price is a bit too much for a game this old and needing some sketchy 3rd party hack to run on modern hardware. Gonna give it thumbs up anyway since its a good game of its time.
Mit RA Mod und diversen anderen Hilfsmitteln sogar spielbar. Mega. Gibt nix vergleichbares auf dem Markt... Command Naval Combat Reihe ist mir zu wenig inmersiv und zu strategisch. Das hier ist das realistischste was ich kenne, und ich bin von der Branche.

Great old game. Still the best modern naval combat simulator.
The graphics are okay, they're dated and primitive but functional, ultimately graphics don't matter much in a game like this because 90% of your time is staring at maps and displays.
There's a small but diverse set of vehicles you can control, aircraft, helicopters, ships and submarines, I wish there were more but it's okay. There's plenty of systems and they have a good level of complexity to allow interesting tactics and techniques. I wish there were more missions that came with the game but there's a built in mission editor that can be used to quickly knock together some basic missions for yourself.
Overall, it's a very enjoyable ASW sim and for me it works very well using Proton 4.2 that's built in to steam if you're a Linux user. ASW is a very undercovered area in games and sims, so I'm glad I have Dangerous Waters and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in a mid-complexity ASW sim.

Это конечно да. Аналогов нет. Минимальный входной порог: исходя из «взгляда главнокомандующего». Хотя бы повторить такую игру в современности – уже своеобразный подвиг. Но силами успешных мамкиных фрилансеров это невозможно. Для этого люди совершенно другого склада нужны.
Reinforce Alert DWX не забудь поставить. Там всё что могли, парни добавили и докрутили. Вот только из-за отсутствия полной русской локализации и полного внятного курса (в том числе видео) по подготовке – замотивировать себя уделять этой игре время не выйдет. Наличие бубна и умение плясать с ним – также необходимы. С полтычка она не заведется.
One of the best modern submarine simulations available at the moment. The game may look dated, but the systems are very close to real modern sub warfare. Keep in mind this will take a long time to learn, but it always pays off when you complete a successful mission or sink a ship for the first time. To get this game to work on Windows 10 you will need to do some stuff with the files, so I'd recommend watching guides online on how to do this. Overall it's a great game, and something to play while we wait for a new modern sub sim.
This game crashed on my Windows 11 but after installing d3d8.dll, everything has been working fine. I haven't installed any "wrappers", just the dll fixed it for me.
I've been really enjoying this game, especially when you get to hunt submarines as something other than submarine yourself (e.g. FFG or ASW helicopter).
The video tutorials are very helpful and what is not covered in there, is in the manual. Once you learn one platform, the others are very easy to learn too. The only thing I disagree with the manual is that DIFAR buoy is more sensitive than VLAD and detects from further distances.
I really wished this game had more playable options from the earlier diesel electric submarines like Foxtrot, which is already in the game for AI. I haven't had time to try any mods but even the core selection of playable vehicles is solid. The other thing I wished is the option use inverted or normal mouse. This game seems to have it hardcoded as inverted mouse so I have to come up with some kind of solution myself.
No funciona en algunas versiones de windows. Alguno dice que hay maneras de que funcione descargandote no se que, pero cuando yo compro algo quiero que funcione a la primera, no tengo porque hacer su trabajo. No lo recomiendo en absoluto.
The level of detail is just impressive. I've played a lot of realistic and arcadish warfare simulations all from air to sea. I've been hunting these types of games since my very childhood.
With the RA mod, it easily becomes one of the most accurate naval warfare game ever. Indoors and compartments are solid to say the least. You can even have full control over the aerial vehicles, helis etc.
Many people compare it with Cold Waters. But DW is way more immersive in terms of engagements and realistic situations. Cold Waters is an amazing sim-lite/litesim imho. And graphically engaging.
DW is rather old dated. And needs fix for Windows. Though I've never had any issues while modding or playing on a Linux Distribution (Zorin OS and also on Ubuntu 22.04LTS) out of the box.
Steamplay and Proton are just handling games abnormally well. To patch RA on to vanilla game on any Linux distro, you have to install the patch and extract onto the game's directory under Steam. Then you have to right click and open that folder in terminal, to do this properly you have to have installed Wine and Winetricks. Write "wine cmd", and there you go.
Now you had a basic Windows CMD shell thanks to Wine, to continue to run that installed .bat file. This time write down "DWX_1.51blablabla.bat" and it'll automatically run an installation process through the shell. Press any key and continue. After the installation completed, you'll be playing DWX1.51 or 1.50 depending on which patch you've installed.
Enjoy your old school, modernized Naval Warfare SIM on Linux. It's way easier to handle than on Windows.
Very Good Submarine Simulator. Very Realistic
I purchased this game over a month ago and it crashes when launching the program. I've asked for help through steam community and have not received any tips. I also requested a refund over a month ago and still have not received a refund or any acknowledgment from steam. I would just like to know how i can fix the problem and play this game on my pc. I have a Dell G15 with Ryzen 7. if someone could please help, that would be great.
This is the most detailed and realistic modern sub sim that I've ever played. It has a steep learning curve, but it's worth the time and effort getting proficient on the sim.
