Pretty interesting, the horror aspect kind of jump scared me, unfortunately i ran into a bug, it looks like a scripting bug based on the text. "an exception has occurred" I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred.
While processing text tag {=iloveu} in u'{=iloveu}I love you{/iloveu}'.:
^so def keep this in mind, if you decide to take a gander at this VN ^ you will most likely run into a bug as well, although i do find the story pretty engaging and interesting. I'm intrigued by the horror/ thriller but cupid idea
Nop, achievements were pain in the ass.
Cupid is a free visual novel about desire and love. Its a super interesting concept of a cupid who feeds on love for sustenance, we guide the character rose through her mothers choices.
for a free visual novel it had 5 endings and is about 7hrs (im a slow reader tho so give or take) to get everything.
I originally played this when I was much younger and coming back to it I feel it still holds up! It is quite entertaining and a decent read.
No voice acting.
Good music that felt fitting!
Pros:
Free to play ✅
Short and accessible visual novel ⏱️
Simple branching choices
Calm, no-stress experience
Achievements are easy and clearly structured 🎯
Negative:
Requires multiple playthroughs to unlock all achievements
Very limited replay value once everything is completed
Minimal story and gameplay depth
🏆 Completionists & Achievement Hunters:
All achievements can be unlocked in about 1 hour. Multiple playthroughs are required due to branching paths, but each run is very short, making completion fast and smooth.
Overall:
A small, free visual novel that’s quick to experience and enjoyable for a short session. Ideal for achievement hunters or anyone looking for a light story.

TL;DR: Free-to-play VN with optional mature toggle, nice enough art, okay music… but the story is flat and the romance is ultra-girly. If you love frilly “angel & demon” vibes, go for it. Otherwise? Skip.
CUPID is the kind of visual novel that looks fine, sounds fine, behaves fine… and still made me feel like I was stuck in a never-ending romantic monologue wearing a powdered wig I didn’t ask for.
To be fair: the art isn’t bad, the UI works, and the soundtrack does its job. Also, the game lets you toggle the mature content, which is actually a good move. On that front: expect suggestive nudity / suggestive sex, and a couple of scenes that go for “shock value” vibes, but nothing truly extreme. More “a bit of cleavage escaping” than “call the censor.”
My issue is simple: the story. For me it’s too bland, too sweet, too girly—heavy on romance codes, aristocratic vibes, ribbons, angel/demon aesthetics… basically a bouquet of “not for me.” And since the core of a VN is the writing, if the writing doesn’t land, you’re left with a pretty wrapper around boredom.
Yes, there are multiple endings (around four), so there’s replayability on paper. But the dialogue density makes it feel longer than it needs to be—especially if you’re not into the whole romantic fantasy angle.
If you’re into elegant, dramatic romance with a touch of mystic flair, you might actually enjoy it. If you’re not, this one is a polite pass.

Absolute masterpiece I am astonished at this is free. And I love the Queer representation it felt really natural. I love all the characters! Everyone had a huge part in this story it didn't feel like we had a main character because everyone was so important
Not a game. Just a book that is boring af

CUPID – Dark, Deep, and Beautiful
CUPID is an unforgettable free visual novel with stunning writing, emotional depth, and a haunting gothic atmosphere. The story explores trauma, love, and control in a way that’s raw and poetic. The art and music are gorgeous, and the choices feel heavy and real. It’s dark, but deeply meaningful, a rare gem that leaves a lasting impression.
I apparently played this game when I was younger, but had completely forgotten about it. Revisiting it now, I can safely say it’s a bit of a roller coaster. Dark, disturbing, and emotionally intense. It dives into themes of love, sex, sexuality and trauma, in a way that feels nuanced and with important messages in mind sprinkled throughout.
It walks a fine line between realism and fantasy. The horrors depicted aren't just fantastical—they're grounded in realities that, sadly, can and do exist. Even the more surreal elements feel like they could stem from a fractured mind, blurring the line between delusion and truth in a way that makes the experience even more haunting.
A narrativa é profunda, emocional e perturbadora.
This story is definitely not for the faint of heart. I was pleasantly surprised at how well put together it was for a free VN. Some of the VN's you pay for aren't this well written. The art is lovely, and the story is dark and juicy. I loved every click until the very end. I would absolutely play it again, so I would definitely give it a 9/10. The only reason it doesn't get a full 10 is simply because of the bugs that prevented me from getting to one of the endings. Otherwise, great game!
Nah, I'm good.
I like this VN as it's quite different from the VNs I usually play. Good story.
🌹🕯️ CUPID – A Twisted Gothic Fairytale
Don’t let the twinkly light musical box tune at the main screen fool you. This is a dark, dark tale.
CUPID is disturbing, emotionally rich, and filled with rot, blood, obsession—and love, in its cruelest, purest forms.
Despite that, it has a lot of beautiful scenes and a rapturing storyline that branches in many painful, meaningful ways.
Some endings broke me a little. Others made me think about forgiveness, trauma, and who deserves grace.
It’s free, but it’ll cost your heart.
Struggle Rating: ★★★☆☆ – Reading-heavy, emotionally harrowing. No jump scares—just slow, skin-deep dread.
Xjur: I gave you my heart, but it was never clean to begin with.
Xjur:

A rather dark game with a relatively violent opening, but quite impressive when it has attracted players from the first chapters. The story's progression also has many twists that push the player's emotions to a climax, making the player increasingly curious about the ending even though the world in the story is not too large with a relatively small number of characters.
The female protagonist appears quite mysterious and impressive with a voice in her head - her toxic mother always controls her in the direction she wants. The female protagonist carries guilt and inferiority complex due to the influence of her mother - her feelings for her are both love and hate.
However, the female protagonist is not the prominent center of the story, but the male protagonist is the center, Marquis Guilleme, an extremely charming man who can easily make any woman fall in love with him.
The story mainly revolves around the female characters' feelings for Marquis Guilleme and how it deeply affects them, even to the point of self-harm. Throughout the story, the player also gradually realizes the true identity of Rosa and Marquis Guilleme.
The story generally puts the player in a rather passive position when the choices are not to control the main character but to choose the mother's voice and most of the words are quite toxic so the player himself can hardly control the direction of the story. Perhaps realizing this difficulty, the game is quite generous in providing options to unlock all the endings or achievements of the story.
The game offers a few endings and a secret ending, but in my opinion, ending 1 is the best ending of the game, it shows humanity, logic and appropriate endings for each character. Players should watch the bonus part gilly's secret journal, quite funny and surprising. A pretty interesting choice when this is a free game.
I remember this when this came out, was a really good story line, am glad they got to get a Webtoon for this, its a really good story .

I don't recommend this game.
no me gusto para nada
A well written storyline and fluid gameplay. My only complaint is that some achievements cannot be unlocked normally, but there is an option to unlock them all in the game's menu.
This is a very interesting, introspective sort of visual novel, that makes you (or at leaset me) think about what really makes a monster a human and a human a monster. Some bits could have been foreshadowed better, though. The splash arts, particularly the red and blue ones, were particularly gorgeous.
This game was definitely not what I had expected. A dark psychological drama with a bit of romance is a genre which is prone to be messed up, especially by the writers. Well, not this time. Both the story and the characters are really well fleshed out, their traumas and development beautifully portrayed (especially in the good endings!). The game's story is supported by a great soundtrack and pretty graphics, nothing can beat the power of the plot though. And most importantly the game asks one of the most profound questions you can ask yourself. What is love? The game doesn't give a straight answer, instead different kinds of love are shown, innocent, twisted, lustful, guilty. It's up to the player to decide what they believe in, but I must say that playing this visual novel will either broaden your horizons or move you to the point of changing your opinion on love. Check for yourself.
good game

Well, to be perfectly honest, and in my humble opinion, without intending to offend anyone who might hold a different perspective, while also considering this matter from various angles, and without condemning anyone’s views but rather aiming for objectivity, and taking into account every valid opinion, I honestly believe I have nothing to say.

As I've heard the story is really good, I wish I could get past the fact I'm playing from the POV of a gaslighting "Mother". Unfortunately, not a game for me.
Played on the steam deck, worked perfectly using the trackpad mouse.
Loved this game. Played it all in one evening and replayed multiple times to get all the endings. Can't say anything about the plot without spoiling it, but it's a ride! Very well written, which is important for visual novels.
Rating: 5/10.
This game is one massive edge session
I've long since become almost completely disillusioned with the visual novel genre. Most of the time, developers just don't get that when they churn out a mindless product with nothing but boobs, it's hardly going to sell in massive quantities. Sure, overly eager schoolkids will run to beg their moms for money for yet another "Sakura" title, but there are fewer of them every year. It's a different story when the authors don't focus on the fanservice at all and even make the game free.
I'm grateful to the person who recommended CUPID – A free to play Visual Novel to me. No, seriously, I'm very grateful. This game, for me personally, has become one of the best. No, of course not the best ever, but in my personal top visual novels, it now holds a well-deserved place.
The game has a very engaging story that revolves around several characters, gradually introducing us to them and drawing us closer. We play as—or rather, choose a few dialogue options at key points as—a ghost, the mother of one of the main heroines. She's a devout and strict woman who tries to protect her daughter from terrible sins. The girl obediently follows her mother's guidance and leads the most ordinary, almost destitute lifestyle to avoid temptation and not fall into debauchery. But one day, she meets new friends who pull her out of this isolation and show her a new life, proving that not all people are bad.
As much as I'd like to, it's impossible to go into details of the plot without spoilers. I just can't. I tried to start a sentence, but it inevitably ended with a plot spoiler. So you'll just have to trust me that the story here is very interesting. The narrative touches on friendship, betrayal, exploitation, and, of course, the great power of love. Yes, on the surface it sounds cliché and overly sentimental, but thankfully, there's very little of that saccharine pinkness here.
The story is divided into a prologue and eight subsequent chapters. And here's a neat little feature: through the choices you make at key points, you advance the story and move toward one of four available endings. Personally, I ended up skipping an entire chapter because of the path I took. And that, for me, is a huge incentive to replay the game. I want to discover the other outcomes of this story, experience new emotions, and, of course, stay in this atmosphere a little longer.
Speaking of atmosphere, it's something phenomenal in this game. I haven't come across such a harmonious blend of setting, sound, and visuals in a long time. The game is set in 18th-century France: balls, dresses, piano playing, walks in the park, and so on. And all of this is accompanied by simply incredible music. The soundtracks for this game are wonderful. They always perfectly complement what's happening on screen, either building tension or providing relaxation. And I have to admit, I sat and listened to the main menu theme for about 15 minutes. What can I say? I felt like it.
The artwork is also very pleasant. The drawing style is a bit unusual, but still quite appealing. I'd say it's atypical for visual novels. There are many different CGs, detailed backgrounds, and numerous character sprites that, on top of that, aren't static and appear in various poses.
For me personally, this game was magnificent. It's a beautiful visual novel with a powerful and emotional story, wonderful writing, lovely artwork, excellent music, and an overall captivating atmosphere. It makes you want to play it again and again, or at least replay it to discover new paths and story developments. This game won't appeal to everyone, because contrary to the genre's typical conventions, there are no boobs or vulgarity here. But there is what originally made me fall in love with the genre in the first place—atmosphere and story. And there's plenty of it here. I'm going to go replay it once more...
Was back and fourth on whether I'd recommend this or not, and I guess my answer is 'sure'.
There's nothing really bad about it. It can be a bit boring here and there, but if the description and the aesthetics are enough to catch your eye, you will likely enjoy it. And it's free so if you don't, it won't take long to work it out and can drop it easily enough. So go for it.
Long skippable interactive story.
boring as hell
CUPID - A free to play Visual Novel is exactly what it promises, a free visual novel revolving around cupid, or at least, some iteration of it...
I will admit, the story didn't hook me at first, it took a while. It starts off slow but I promise you, the wait is well worth it. It certainly made my skin crawl when it came down to it.
I will say, I wasn't exactly enamoured by the art style, the plot is definitely the driving force of the game.
The plot would be really hard to describe but know that it's about love and things a lot more ominous. The visual novels I usually play are upbeat with nothing at all keeping me on edge. This game throws that out the window and I love that!
There's one feature that the game could do without and that would be the "unlock" feature. At the click of a button you can unlock all CGs and steam achievements in the game, without the need to progress through the story. It kinda defeats the purpose honestly...
But overall, it's a great read, it may be confusing at first but it'll make more sense the longer you play, and as mentioned, it's free! Just be wary of the subjects discussed and all the scary elements at play!
This visual novel is so amazing with all of it's dark turns and endings that when I got one of the endings I was shocked at what the outcome was.
᠌
Yes.
love the characters and the plot as a whole, very wonderfully done!
About 3 of the achievements are bugged, but that's okay, because they have an inner fix for it. Really good story. Definitely some mature and very ambiguous relationships in there. Made me feel like I was in a Shadowhunters novel lol. Iykyk.
Цнотливі евфемізми, just saying.

Beetlejuice the Musical - Dead Mom

I have yet to complete the game, but so far, it is rather interesting. I don't usually play games like this but I'm waiting for the time to actually sit down and play for a while. Great art and songs.
Pros:
- great music and atmosphere
- plenty of nice artwork, especially backgrounds since a lot of visual novels skimp on this
- ability to turn off explicit scenes if you prefer that
- complex, sympathetic characters
- a couple interesting twists at the end
Cons:
- the story jumps all over the place
- most of the game offers few choices and with little to no impact
- LOTS of drawn out dialogue of characters debating and arguing with each other
- almost all of the game is just backstory with no real plot movement until the last 10%
- one twist at the end really brings the story down and was completely unnecessary
Overall:
It's worth a play. For a free visual novel, the quality is better than expected. It tells a unique and compelling story despite all the flaws.
There are a couple lines of dialogue toward the end that wouldn't process correctly and put my game into an error screen. Clicking "Ignore" made it skip over that line and proceed.
Game is 100%'d at time of this review.
Dont know why i ever had this in my steam library in the past or why i played it, cant even remember the fact that i did. Got the 100% achievements though which was extremely easy. Unlock>Unlock all steam achievements. Built in 100% achievements for just a couple clicks. Not really a meaningful 100%
The story is intriguing and VERY captivating!
And holding such power over another is a beautiful and heady rush, for those whom enjoy such.
I only wish you had REAL choices, and not just a predetermined set of bad vs worse.
(In my opinion.)
In the end, I really wanted to
tell her I loved her!
Why wasn't that an options?! >_<
You can still
love someone, even when you hurt them. In fact, it's incredibly common. Especially if you're a bit unhinged yourself, you can both love your daughter and harm her.
I wish there was a REAL choice in which you could be GENUINELY loving and supportive, or choose to be a toxic combination of love and pain (like that mother in Bate's Motel), or be truly cruel and turn her self-esteem into nothing.
I have only played through it once, mind you. So I don't know any other endings than the one where
she kills him.
I hope there is another option in which
they live together happily feeding each-other love, and a third option which is more Bonny & Clyde going on a killing spree together kind of thing. And one where she kills him, and you can choose to either vanish and have the ending I got, OR tell her you're proud of her, love her, and set her on a path of self-righteous martyrdom where she goes on a killing-spree to rid the world of all the 'unclean/filthy' people in it like a mad religious crusader, punishing both herself and others, OR just other people --based on your previous choices.
I don't know what exists if I pick other choices, however. But those are the things I most wish to see.
But above all else, I hope for a multitude of endings, and a few more choices.
I love the games in which choices matter more than anything else.
But there must be REAL choices, and not just two similar choices that make it end up pretty much the same in the end.
But we shall see when I play it a second time. lol
By and large, however, this game is wonderful. I absolutely love it!
the mere fact that this VN is free makes it worth a play through or 2.
There's SO MUCH to this; it's amazing.
It's a nice visual novel, too much dialogue for my taste but has an interesting story. There are some guides to help you reach the differnt endings, the one i chose led me to reveal a special in-game menu with in turn unlocked all remaining achievements instantly.
Good game for visual novel fans, i suppose. [7/10]
goodgame
Okay before i start this off id like to say i know nothing of what happens in the first three endings, but i did in fact get the fourth one.
And i did enjoy this game except for what im about to list here !
(spoilers from here on)
First off, the clear not specific age they set for "Rosa" in the beginning before she takes out her eye we are greeted in the chapel by a priest who says he cant tell if she looks 20 or 16. WHY DOES HE THINK 16?! low key that almost killed the whole visual novel for me, yet i persisted. I came to the conclusion by looking at the achievements, if you play with mature mode on. You're supposed to be an adult, which made it even more weird when very much later on when Catherine came into my room drunk we ended up making out and almost having le seggs. I know she is supposed to be an adult then BUT WE SHE IS MY SISTER BASICALLY?? WE CALL EACH OTHER SISTERS?? the whole scene came out of NOWHERE and i hate how incestuous it got so fast. im very much happy it didn't continue. we literally met her when she was 7. way to make a character pedo coded.
Also, i found weird about this is how they made the marquis like. wait for Catherine to be of age then it was a big deal how he sucked all the love out of her by doing the "deed" for the first time. i feel there could've been so many different people they could've elaborated on this with for instance her older sister where its just heavily implied he did the same to her. Why did we have to wait for Catherine to be an adult to get this?? we got plenty of personality from her sister in the prologue and i would've enjoyed watching her fall into madness over Catherine.
I honestly wish the marquis put up more of a fight in the end though, i don't feel like just stabbing his heart was enough. how could a girl like who is 2x smaller than him keep him pinned even when hes breaking the spell?? i don't understand how this works and genuinely want to know if it was just there to wrap it up quicker OR if the sprite sizes don't correlate to their actual height.
Justice for Catherine 2024 , she didnt deserve that she deserved to live out a full career and go in the books with ME as her loving sister.
This compelling and dark story left me questioning what is happening majority of the entire game. You're torn for all of the characters. Brilliantly done, wholeheartedly recommend for anyone that loves Gothic storytelling.
⠀
This visual novel is complicated.
The art is good, the music fits, the text reads nicely. The plot starts dark but gets intriguing by the end of the first chapter.
The topics it tackles include ones that are difficult to do well and consist of ones you'd typically see on a content warning list. Some choices matter, but it's hard to tell which ones, and unfortunately that means there are times when the themes contradict each other on multiple playthroughs(which isn't the best given the topics).
The achievements are mostly pointless. Almost none of them tell you how you're meant to unlock and you get multiple of them for basically nothing.
Is it good? I don't know.
Is it bad? I don't think so.
Can I recommend it? Not really...
Cupid is one hell of a game. It's both extremely bold in about everything (themes, visuals, references) and also crafted with incredible care and attention to detail. I played it some years ago and forgot a lot about the intricacies of the plot and the characters, but its foreboding atmosphere stayed with me. Upon replaying it recently I realized that reducing Cupid to its (very real) horror aspect is not doing it justice. The cast (which is to say the three main characters and the narrator, really) are incredibly multi-faceted and I totally forgot the writing was this good. This is actual novel/short story quality, and for free too! I love a lot of the decisions the developers made, particularly concerning the endings, and in retrospect, having played a lot of visual novels in the meantime, I reckon the medium has been exploited judiciously: the sound effects in particular are extremely well-timed and effective.
I don't want to say more about the plot itself, it's really best to go in blind and just enjoy and see this tragedy about love and its various meanings and corruptions unfurl. I will just say that Cupid is not only an excellent free game. It's simply one of the best visual novels I've ever played.
AMAZING
I played Cupid all the way back in 2016 and while the details of the story faded, this game lingered in my mind for almost a decade. When I decided to replay it this year I was slightly worried that the actual game I'd find after all this time wouldn't compare to my nostalgic memories of it, so I was genuinely delighted when the opposite happened. This game rules! It succeeds in ways many more recent VNs I've read struggle, and to be honest it's crazy that it's entirely free (although you can buy the artbook alongside the game on itchio).
It's always a treat to play a game (or experience any kind of media) where you can tell correct decisions were consistently made throughout the creative process. There are very few characters but they are lovingly described in all their complexity, which is kind of a must for a darkly romantic story like this one. The music and the visuals are always used judiciously - I think this is the first VN I'd have to praise for its scene transitions. The game creators made some smart and unique decisions, like having a deeply biased and unreliable player character, that elevate the entire story, and while it could have used a bit more proofreading (not that I'm about to cherry pick an almost decade old free game), the writing is also excellent.
I'm so glad I came back to this game, it's absolutely worth it.

Jogo medonho e história tóxica. Me deu alguns gatilhos.

Thousand plus lines, 5 endings, many achievements, but some do not work.
I had to play an older version of the same for the last 3 achievements.
Strange story.
ok listen.. i wish there was a middle ground you could rate but you cant so i had to give this a not recommend rating. There is a lot to like about it, but also a good amount to not like. I personally, am a HUGE lover of all things with dark, and i can see how one would like it, but i personally do not.
I finished it in one go, and managed to get three endings. I liked the idea as playing as the MCs dead mom, and was looking forward to seeing how that played out, but instead i felt as if i had very little control over anything, and any choices i DID have to make had very little effect. You're giving the illusion of choice, but in reality, your choices doesn't really affect the story whatsoever. (besides at the very end) I was also expecting to get a story where you follow your kid and help them make the right choices as they grow up, and while you do to some extent, its not in the way you would think.
Its more like a slideshow than anything.
As for the story itself, it isn't bad. I liked the storytelling, and how it cuts from the beginning, to the end and than explaining the timeline in-between. Its also nice to see the foreshadowing as the plot twist was revealed. But once again, you get no control of story and how it progresses. You can't prevent something from happening, and you can't make something happen. You just watch.
As for the dark themes, its not crazy dark. There is a a few parts of the story that made me feel unsettled, but if ur used to dark themes and horror, its light work. In the end, as i said, i can see how some people may like it, but however personally its just not my cup of tea.
Soooooo that was dark. And unsetteling. And it got worse. But somehow better? I don't know. I'm obsessed with this story. 10/10, would read again.
This is a free, and disturbing, Visual Novel. You are Rosa's dead mother, and Rosa still hears your voice in her head. The story starts with Rosa still as a child. Rosa is basically a street urchin who survives by selling roses in front of the Marquis's house, to the rich people who come and go during parties and such.
One day Rosa meets 7-year old Catherine, a masterful piano prodigy, and they quickly become friends. The Marquis, Guilleme, wants to sponsor Catherine's piano tutoring. He takes her into his own house to live, and Catherine insists that Rosa should get to live there too. Guilleme agrees, so Catherine and Rosa grow up together in his mansion.
Catherine's older sister starts spending more and more time at the mansion too, and eventually becomes romantically involved with Guilleme, even though she's already married. After a while, she goes insane. After Catherine grows up, she also becomes romantically involved with Guilleme, and mysteriously also goes insane.
As Rosa's mother, you keep telling Rosa that something evil is going on, that Guilleme isn't what he seems, and that Rosa needs to kill him in order to put a stop to it. You push Rosa to investigate, to try to uncover Guilleme's secrets, but Rosa doesn't always want to listen to you. She also loves him.
Is it really love when you can't break free? What happens when your passion gets so out of control that it consumes you? Will Rosa listen to you enough to learn the truth, or will she ignore you and become his next victim?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
There are no controls here. You just read the text, and click to go to the next page/picture. Some conversations have choices, and the choices matter. They will determine the path you take, the story ending you get, as well as which achievements are earned. The only replayability will be to take different paths in order to get all the achievements.
The story is divided into 8 chapters. My first play-through took 3 hours. There was a couple of glitches here and there, but nothing I couldn't work around. The story was very very boring through Rosa's and Catherine's childhoods, but finally started to get better during their teen years. Once they became adults, the story REALLY picked up, and when the sexual parts finally happened, it was pretty hot.

the writing isn't the best and it got a bit boring at times but the concept of the story is pretty cool. if you have the patience then its worth getting to the thrilling chapters specially if you enjoy psychological horror
I honestly feel like I stole this. This should not be free. Yes there are grammatical errors, however the story is deep. I blew my whole off day reading it. It has intense themes, this is not for people who can't handle that, and that's fine.
"Aşk hem zehir hem şifa, hem bıçak hem devadır." 18. yüzyıl Fransa'sında geçen bu kayıp, intikam ve aşkın farklı yüzleri hakkında gotik bir aşk hikayesi.
Bleh...

CUPID score is -1 of 5.
I'm disappointed in myself for not reviewing this game as soon as I finished playing it. I absolutely loved this game. But now it's been years since I played it and my memory is hazy.
It weaves a intriguing, psychological tale about a girl who speaks to her "invisible" mother. It mixes mystery, horror (or at least dark elements), and romance. I was gripped the entire time.
