chapter one is pretty solid except I kinda hated the final level
the interlude is a single level, it's kinda mid with an awful boss fight, was ammo starved had to kill it with the axe.
really liked chapter two, loved the horror sections, but the armored cop enemy (the peacekeeper) drag that chapter down so much for me, they have waaay too much health and if im out of molotovs or fire, i go ♥♥♥♥ myself and spend all my shotgun ammo. Also, holy hell old town on extreme is insane. Final boss was cool, felt a little out of place mechanically BUT i will take that over just another boomer shooter boss where you just circle strafe to win.

I generally appreciate boomer shooters from afar, as I'm just not that good at them. But this? This is something else. This opened my eyes. It is so fantastically good, focused, and polished. I cannot praise this game enough for what it is and what it does. Love it. Looking forward to what the dev does next.

I wasn't sure what to expect. This is my 1st boomer shooter in over 20 years.
After the 2nd mission, I found myself having trouble putting it down. "One more mission. One more check point. Maybe I'll check what's in the next room.
Surprisingly scary and tense. I didn't die that much but was afraid to die many times.
Good gun mechanics. Nothing crazy but I didn't feel held back at all. If anything, some hipfire actually felt too acurate lol.
I might have another playthrough, just to run and gun, now that I know the layouts.
Well paced with good level and creature designs, a very effective throw-back to old school shooters. There's some voxel elements which add depth to the environments and compliment the 2D sprites. The muted colour palette creates a foreboding gothic atmosphere, while being varied enough to maintain interest.
3D realms published quite a few mediocre games in the past few years (wrath, graven, phantom fury) and some even worse than that (painkiller reboot), but they clearly struck gold with this single developer Jason Smith and his impressive debut title.
Although I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected - a couple of levels weren't too fun for me, and there aren't that many - the product quality of his work is very high and really stands out from the retro shooter crowd of these last few years. It's highs and lows to be fair, but the highs are sometimes sublime and make this a must-play.
There is clearly a lot of inspiration from one of the best classics of the genre - blood - in fact you're much better off playing this, which feels like the modern sequel blood never got, than the endless rehashed/remaster/resupplied/regurgitated versions of the original produced by others.

There is a chance you heard about Cultic because of its supposed resemblance to Blood. However, the only things they have in common are the pixelated, horror-like aesthetics, cultists, and throwing dynamite bundles. Apart from that, Cultic’s approach is far more methodical, sharing a lot of its DNA with survival horror games. This may lead to the false expectation of a fast-paced run ‘n’ gun shooter rather than a survival game where every bullet counts and accuracy isn't pixel-perfect.
It’s a purely subjective thing – I personally wish there were more elements of how Blood felt overall. Cultic isn’t bad by any means, just different. I still wish the final game felt more like the 2021 demo.
But dang it, an actual Blood-inspired level added in one of the latest updates? This alone is worth the purchase.
I've never played Blood but if the TNT in that game is even half as satisfying to use as it is here I gotta check it out.
Comparison to games that inspired it aside, has some of the most satisfying shot feedback I've felt in a classic FPS. A handful of the maps feel like they could have used more polish, but for the most part they are top notch.
I played through both chapters on hard; enemy encounters were challenging while never feeling cheap or poorly designed, though sometimes the melee enemies got confused. Bosses were fun and only got better as the game progressed.
Definite recommend.

Smooth, snappy controls, fast-paced combat with capable and varied enemies, and some very effective horror moments. The art style is downright gorgeous and the music is just as good. Levels are vast with tons of secrets to find, and attentive exploration is well rewarded. Easily one of the best old-school shooters on the market right now.

Cultic est encore la preuve que le FPS à l'ancienne a encore des trucs à dire, en prenant une formule que l'on pense connaître par coeur (ici un truc qui ressemble à Blood), avec un twist tout juste suffisant pour offrir une expérience qui lui est propre, entre choix raffinés et petites touches originales absolument délicieuses.

Cultic is one of the best shooters of our time and often a fantastic survival horror game as well, cant go wrong with this one. Hopefully we'll see more adventures starring John Cultic in the future

Cultic: Chapter one takes some notes from Resident Evil 4 and some more Cultic, but presents a game that's very much it's own thing. It has linear but quite open levels, tight combat and some minor exploration. The resources sometimes lean towards survival horror, but make no mistake, this is still very much a boomer shooter with both fast paced combat and more tactical sections.
I found the game hard to watch and making sense of at first, but it was remedied by turning off both dithering and color filtering. For some reason my eyes were not compatible with those settings, though some of the charm is lost. The sprite enemies also don't work well with verticality and headshotting sprites just feels wrong. Personally I would have preferred full 3d enemies.
The levels feel a bit samey throughout the game, but it holds up the short 3-5 hour runtime really well. The last few sections are quite over the top with full on combat, but it's a clear sign you're at the end of the journey. It was enjoyable. It was fulfilling... and then comes disappointing chapter two DLC, which jumps the shark very fast.
Luv it! My fav boomer shooter: fantastic atmosphere, level design, weapons, enemies, bosses. Anyone who enjoyed Blood will love this. Very highly recommended!

A gameplay é um sonho molhado para os fãs do gênero boomer shooter, a movimentação no game é uma delicia, assim como o combate na mão ou armado. Jogar esse game bem é muito satisfatório e estiloso.
Dividido em capítulos, cada um dos mapas tem suas áreas secretas, recompensando jogadores que dão valor a exploração, seja com peças para Upgrade de suas armas, ou munição e cura para continuar os embates.
O arsenal, como citado anteriormente, é maravilhoso, desde uma pistola inicial até um lança-chamas, sei que não é nada novo para o gênero, mas ter armas novas à disposição é muito bom!
A ambientação do game é surreal! Um boomer shooter cinematográfico com uma estética única, entrega em seu decorrer partes de pura ação e frenesi, e em outras um climinha de terror que conseguiu me deixar desconfiado e apreensivo com os nervos a flor da pele.

A very fun doomy boom shoot. I'm enjoying the heck out of it on Hard, and has the 3D realms feel to the shooting, bombs, and secrets in every area. I have only one minor gripe and it is I would like the ability to put the gun ups and look down the sights.
The closest thing to a true Blood sequel, and a great game on it's own right as well!

I really enjoyed my time with both chapters! Some levels in Chapter 2 are a little too gigantic for my taste, and could use some better signposting in some places, but otherwise there is hardly anything to complain about! Great gunplay, great gameplay in general, great pacing when you have to be more methodical and carefull with your approach, then suddenly chaotic and frantic fights followed by some short but really effectively creepy horror segments. Again a game made by mainly one guy that shows, no amount of money buys you talent and skill. If this was called Rersident Evil or Silent Hill and made with those engines and budgets under the direction of the guy who made this, the gaming world wouldn't shut up about a generational masterpiece.

Consigue algo muy difícil, además, que es mantener un equilibrio finísimo (por lo menos en difícil que es como lo he jugado) entre el terror de la multitud de escenas absolutamente peliculeras que colman cada capítulo y el dislate de ir reventando cabezas a diestro y siniestro a todo lo que se mueva. Menuda gozada reventar cabezas, por cierto. Todas las armas de Cultic se sienten increíblemente peligrosas y todas tienen su momento de brillar. Igual te puedes pasar veinte minutos arrastrándote por unas catacumbas reventando no-muertos a quemarropa, que a continuación tienes que acertarle a un comando de sectarios francotiradores desde cien metros. Una joya.

Outrageously good. Gunplay is snappy and satisfying, enemies feel threatening without feeling unfair. Can be a quick in-and-out 4 hour romp or you can take your time and uncover all the secrets, just like any good shooter of this style. Great sense of style and just overall incredibly well made, especially for a solo project. Couldn't stop smiling from beginning to end.

It's pretty good, though it doesn't quite reach GOTY in the genre like Dusk, Turbo Overkill, and Prodeus did for me.
The game nails it both aesthetically and in terms of feel. There's also a lot of accessibility options to really customize things and the automap also solves a lot of traditional problems, but the rest of the game experience doesn't hold up at times and I can't quite put my finger on it - I think what holds it back for me is the level design feels like it can drag on at times, and the combat feels like it falls apart with larger enemy counts and open areas as most weapons don't really work for those. Some horror sections can also really drag on at times in particular (especially in the Chapter 2 DLC), but I do still like the switch between horror and action segments similar to FEAR as its pretty fun. The game is full of really great technical ideas with often fantastic execution, even if I think they don't all quite hit the mark at times. It wasn't quite for me, but I think its still a great game that many others will really enjoy.

This might be the best indie boomer shooter I've played, dethroning DUSK. All the weapons feel awesomely powerful, and the level design rewards exploration and clever positioning. I found myself very invested in the sparse storytelling you'll find through the environment and various logs.
Looking forward to running through the DLC finale when time allows it!

This is my first ever review but I needed to tell people my thoughts on this game.
This is not just another boomer shooter, this is a boomer shooter with horror, story and even has immersive sim aspects. The art style is amazing true art that is pretty unique if you ask me. most importantly though the gameplay, the gameplay is great and satisfying with great weapon and level variety, environments are great and diverse from one another. Now for the content of this game... Fantastic! Chapter one is the story mode and you also have a survival mode where you face waves of enemies, and then you have the Interlude which is a stand alone story that takes place in a police station over run by cult members.
Replay value is definitely a thing I love and this game has it! Not only would I just replay this game for fun but because there are secrets to find in every level and if you go on level select you can start any level with whatever guns you like which makes you play a level pretty different, For example I went through the very first level with the sniper rifle which is how I got the achievement for completing a level without taking damage because I had the range.
The only thing I wish this game had was a leaning mechanic because this is not a boomer shooter where you don't stop moving like Doom or Dust. I think a leaning mechanic would lend really well to the gameplay.
There is only one little issue, if you're playing on controller the button prompts are for keyboard I couldn't see a way to fix this, but that's it you get used to the controls quick anyway so no big deal but thought I would mention it.
P.S. This game was made by ONE PERSON!
Now the DLC Chapter two, to keep this short and sweet it's more of the same great game, if you like the main game then I would definitely recommend it! The content is great and a lot of fun.
All in all I love this game and I can't recommend it enough.
Its decent. The visuals are good, and the gunplay is satisfying especially with headshots. The enemies are kind of cheap how they have perfect aim from across the entire level never missing which is poorly designed. Also some levels theres hunting for a hidden grate you didn't see thats how you progress so you'll need a walkthrough after wandering around a bit, but for the most part its pretty good. The final boss is pretty cheap and not super well designed. Its also lame that the game is only 1 chapter and the second, which is longer, is DLC. Also could be more fun gun variety, as the ammo is pretty sparing for how much even low level guys need before they die, so you'll mostly be using a shotgun, pistol, and rifle which could have been more interesting. 7.5/10.

有一定的设计小巧思，地图也大了很多，有时候跑起图来有点墨迹，整体的爽感不如第一章
但是新增了很多惊吓点（但没有跳脸吓，就是黑漆漆的走廊突然冲过来几个跑的很快的近战怪，眼睛会发光的，我也看不懂中文不知道叫啥），稍微有一点交互剧情能看懂点，然而就像其他的评论一样，找阀门、炸弹、钥匙几乎就是第二章所有的任务
在你第一次玩第二章的时候不少场景虽然没有怪，但是能给你很大的探索压力（但是二周目这种地图就纯跑酷了）
第二章我觉得最大的问题，一个是地图大，很多敌人都能藏在犄角旮旯阴你一下，跑图的时候也很墨迹；二是中后期堆怪极其严重，经常就是在一个只有一个进出口的场景捡到钥匙，然后回头立马刷一堆敌人，混杂了一堆带护甲的精英怪，你扔炸药或者燃烧弹都会伤害到自己，打起来非常不爽
如果打不过，需要想想是不是没有拉满双管霰弹枪（无敌了）
但是瑕不掩瑜，喜欢这种类型的不用会英文，用截图翻译把设置调好，后面就去乱杀吧！
20多年前的FPS射击风味，绝对算得上是好作品，CHAPTER2比起1明细感觉更放飞自我了，除了经常迷路外还喜欢弄一些恐怖小怪黑暗中往你脸上冲，低难度下玩的还挺爽，高难度玩起来像坐牢纯血压
As a baseline, the game is very similar to Blood with more than a few outright homages to it. But it's also different. There's a rather annoying sliding mechanic that activates when you don't particularly want it to, but otherwise the movement is nearly the same. Weapon selection is decent with an okay upgrade system. Don't feel the need to max out a weapon for the sake of maxing it out. And the enemies have decent pathfinding with most having some sort of vulnerability that you don't need to exploit to continue or defeat them. The addition of some props based attacks and prop manipulation also adds some variety to fights and level progression that makes it stand out.
I've only played Chapter 1, and the developer years later is still actively working on new Chapters as well as regularly fixing bugs and addressing feedback. Is it better than Blood? I don't think so. But it is different and new enough that it's worth a playthrough.

A solo project that perfectly encapsulates everything that made shooters from the 90s so good. Great music, expansive levels, resource management and great gunplay. It is also bite size and can be finished in under 8 hours which makes it easy to replay.
If I had to ding it on anything, the enemy variety is mostly guys in different colored robes with different guns. The enemies are also not all total hitscan and are kind enough to give a sound cue before they start firing their nearly hitscan weapons.
The tank ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks, buy this game if you are a masochist.
This tickles a nostalgic itch with a modern scratch. I loved it and once I got the hang of the movement system, crushing harder difficulties became a hacking, slashing, pumping, dumping, dashing, smashing, burn for more.
Excellent work from this small team and I fully appreciate their time and effort. BUT, I am so done with it. It is a real slog to get though. Each level can take over an hour to complete and the whole experience should have taken a fraction of the time it needed to. If they shortened the playtime this would be a far far better game.

A fun and frantic lovechild of the FPS genre from its humble inception, and (surprisingly enough) the immersive sims that grew to Cult classics alongside them. CULTIC is short, sweet, and an absolute gem to play.

Man, what a great game!
Love the rhythm of the music here, you just wanna keep playing and it is perfectly synced with the movement. Sometimes it feels creepy, other times mysterious, almost trance-like and it always delivers and makes you keep going. Gameplay feels smooth with many solid, impactful weapon choices which can also be upgraded. You run and gun through camps, mines, warehouses, ships and I also saw a Wolfenstein inspired castle with an FG42 in the pictures. So, you just know - those guys are pros at developing a real good shooter. And it shows!
This game just feels right and hits home in so many ways - if you like old school shooters or wanna try them. You can't go wrong here!

好评是给第一章的，至于第二章差评纯纯依托，第二章地图出奇的大，还动不动就让你找炸弹，拉杆等诸如此类的东西，巨大的地图以及一堆东西外加时不时的回头路和小怪从你意想不到的地方刷出来干你边让你迷路边恶心你。第二章厕所也是一堆，前一秒刚捡玩东西下一秒几个精英怪刷你脸上怼死你。总而言之第一章神了，第二章拉完了。

An excellent game all around.
The shooting is fun and enjoyable. Most of the guns are very satisfying to use. The levels are well made, fun to explore and secret hunt. The horror sections are well executed, and there's a good balance of slow horror and fast action; neither section extends for too long. My only critic is that the ending fight was a little underwhelming (but that's definitely fixed in Chapter 2). Some enemies can be annoying to fight (especially on Extreme difficulty), but over time you can learn how to safely and quickly kill them.

Enjoiyed it. That being said, it feels like it's better in some aspects than chapter one and worse in others. While soundtrack, new weapons, new enemies and maps feel good, some of the bigger maps were a maze requiring way too many things to be found to progress (especially Manor). Other than that, the final boss hurt like a mf. Nothing in the game prepared me for it. He hits hard, has many attack patterns, is fast af, and there's no cover, no heals nor ammunition to replenish some of the stronger weapons. Previous bosses were nowhere near his difficulty and always gave you plenty of heals and ammo, often even one use weapons, resulting in maybe 3 deaths in some of the harder sections in the game (and rarely even that during boss battles), and dozens of deaths on final boss. Because of this contrast, the final boss felt too hard, and even frustrating tbh. If Chapter 1 is 9/10, then Chapter 2 is 8-8.5/10.
