Cosmochoria is a surprisingly addictive little gem — what started as a quick arcade session turned into hours of jetpacking between planets, planting seeds, and fending off relentless alien waves. The core loop of terraforming planets while defending them has a zen-like quality to it, even when things get hectic, and watching a barren rock bloom to life never really gets old. Permanent upgrades carry over between runs, which gives each death a sense of progress rather than pure punishment, though the early grind can feel slow before you've unlocked a few things. The procedurally generated galaxy keeps things fresh, and there are enough secrets, NPCs, and cryptic artifacts scattered around to reward curious players. It's not without rough edges — the lack of in-run saving stings, and repetition does set in over longer sessions — but for the price, it's a charming and genuinely fun indie experience.

The very first thing you'll see upon opening this game is the misaligned UI for the language select screen. Immediately afterwards, you'll realize that every single menu in the game has this problem. Main menu, artifacts, high score, options - none of them have a properly aligned highlighted option. Additionally, the icons on the upgrade screen when you start a subsequent playthrough after your initial one overlap the text describing what each upgrade does, so it's very difficult to understand what you are upgrading.
Although it's fairly easy to understand the gameplay, there's no tutorial. There are like 20 text boxes that show up in the first 60 seconds on your first playthrough, so you have no time to read or absorb the information presented in font size 6, especially since you will also be busy dodging projectiles and firing at the rapidly-spawning enemies. Combined with the buggy UI, this makes for an exceedingly poor first impression.
After reviving 2 planets, you are immediately thrown into the first boss battle with a pretty crazy difficulty spike.
The AI for the pewpew towers (defense turrets) often prefer to shoot at the ground instead of at enemies.
It's very rare for me to dislike videogame music, but much of the soundtrack here was not ethereal and spacey as one would expect, but instead rather grating and irritating.
The gameplay is fine overall and the graphics are cute; however, there is a severe lack of polish and refinement. Seeing as how the most recent update came out over a decade ago, I am not optimistic that the UI and other problems will be fixed any time soon.
Normally I wouldn't refund a game I bought for $1.50, but this experience was more frustrating than enjoyable, and I don't anticipate the problems here to ever be rectified, so I did not see myself returning to this game in the future.
Unfortunately, due to the numerous issues present in this game, it is very difficult to recommend.

Gameplay is fun but I'm having a menu issue on Windows where the menu items aren't properly aligned with the red buttons. Also, when I go to the upgrade menu this same issue makes the text unreadable since they're covered up by the perk buttons.

I checked online for a fix and I see a few from 2017 for Mac but not Windows. Shame that what seems like such a simple UI scaling issue hasn't been fixed in so long as it makes the perk progression basically unusable.

Comments are enabled. If anyone has a fix I'll change this to a positive review.

Can't recommend in its current state. There might be a fun game lurking underneath the jank, but after about five minutes of play I'm already questioning if it's worth the effort. The on-boarding experience is awful - you're given barely-comprehensible instructions in five-point type with button icons so small it's impossible to read any of them, and you have to decipher all this while being blasted from all sides by rapidly-spawning enemies. That plus the bugged-to-hell menu UI makes for an overwhelmingly negative first impression. I was thinking of requesting a refund, but having bought the game on sale for about the price of a candy bar, I'm going to hang on for now and see if the developer addresses any of this. Should that happen, I'll happily update this review to reflect that. Again, maybe there's a fun game under all this - it certainly looks and sounds like there should be! - but this is barely Early Access quality right now, let alone a full release.

只能说还不错，但内容挺少，一直就是重复占领星球、打怪、到处乱飞，这几个内容
画面挺简陋的，刷的内容也算多了，普通怪就掉一个点数，解锁一把武器就要1500点数，随便一个升级就是好几百点数
宇宙飞行的体验太烂，根本不知道在往那个方向飞，视角和地图方向不匹配，经常无头乱飞找不到方向
还有就是每把流程太漫长，飞的慢，造的慢，每次地图还是随机的还得到处飞找星球，飞行体验又差
但5.4元玩玩还是不错的00

Verifico datos de instalación y dice que todo está correcto, sigue sin haber letras en el menú y los idiomas no cambian solamente se quedan en alemán, aún cambiando al español.... como publican un juego así, ya que cobran por un juego del género, mínimo podrían arreglar estás cosas

I kept it running in the background just long enough to let me give this half baked trash a negative review. The buttons don't synchronize at all in the UI, which many people have complained about - your UI is BROKEN for some people, so fix it! It's pretty ridiculous that such a basic issue couldn't be fixed, or that it was even released in this state.

This is one of my top 3 Indy roguelike games, up there with Rogue Legacy and Risk of Rain. It's very hard to describe this game, very innovative and different, and you owe it to yourself to check it out. I'd call this "The Little Prince Fights Alien Invaders" I stayed up late playing this a couple nights which is a rarity for me.

My biggest downside was that all other weapon upgrades are worse than the first weapon upgrade.

I had hoped to seen more from Nate Schmold.

Juego quizas para niños donde un bicho raro rollo el principito tiene que ir plantando semillas cosmicas de plantas alucinogenas en planetas para que estos vuelvan a la vida mientras unos majos alienigenas en sus navecitas y algo que parecia una lechuga espacial te van atacando e intentando destruir los planetitas.

Nota: 5 de 10 podria ser mejor pero al menos no es la chusta del Aztelypse.

As others have said, the entire gameplay loop is healing planets by holding down S for several seconds to plant a seed while stopping repeatedly to shoot at enemies that spawn almost as fast as you can kill them. Once you plant a seed, you walk two steps, plant another seed and repeat. You are not rewarded for healing a planet, and simply move to the next planet.

While competent as a flash game you might find for free on the internet, the gameplay loop is not challenging or rewarding, but tedious. I would not recommend spending money on this.

The gameplay feels weird, I feel like the planting on planets is meant to be relaxing, but as you progress you have lots and lots of enemies just annoying the hell out of you, but they aren't dangerous enough to make the game feel like an exciting action game either.

Also some other trivial things that bothered me here and there, also achievements are a chore.

Unfortunately Cosmochoria just doesn't come together. In 2021 the roguelite market is far past oversaturated, but even in 2015 we already had many that were simply better than cosmochoria. The runs feel too similar and there're no "aha! if I choose this upgrade I can really break the game in a new way!" moments. These are unforgivable faults in a roguelite.

Not great. There are many problems with the game including the bad camera/controls, the lack of updates for 5 years, the repetitive nature of the game, and the fact that if you die you have to restart even if it was because of the glitchy bosses/enemies. You should probably get a different game, especially now because there is no real point to buy this game anymore.

Un jeu d'arcade assez sympa mais la progression est relativement longue et pas forcément intuitive ; recommencer du début, même avec les powerups, peut devenir usant. Ça ressemble à un jeu sur tablette ou téléphone.

Les touches ne sont pas non plus modifiables, et le clavier est à utiliser en qwerty.

Bref à prendre si vous avez beaucoup de temps à dépenser.

並靠手中的小槍對抗想盡方法阻擾你的外星生物

隨著復甦的星球越多外星生物也會越多越煩

復甦的星球到特定數量時會出現頭目級的外星生物

有的像龍會噴火會噴冰有的會鑽地無法靠一般方式打倒

有的會把整個星球包覆起來讓玩家無法逃離這些外星生物都在考驗玩家的技巧(還有裝備)

在玩家打倒這些外星生物後會掉落神秘的石板似乎跟大災變有所關連....

反正這是一款大家偶爾想在外太空種種樹的時候可以開來玩一下推薦給大家

TLDR: Free form and open. Stake out planets and fight invaders. Rotating around planets is nauseating. Janky radial menus. Unengaging core fighting gameplay. Respawning enemies.

Jogo ótimo, é difícil de apontar algum defeito viu. Totalmente recomendado, acho que dura umas ótimas 10h (+ou-) de jogo, mas se quiser todas as conquistas ( com 15h ainda faltam-me algumas) extende-se mais do que isso.

I got the game primarily because ilkae and zebra did a lot of the soundtrack. The only other time i got a game because i liked the musicians involved was ibb and obb and that would've been fun if i actually had anybody to play it with. Luckily for me this isn't a multiplayer game. It is somewhat repetitive but the feel of the game is good. My only real issue is that the game crashed once when I was in the middle of playing. Also, it feels like it would've maybe been more palatable if there was a save feature but i'm sure there are reasons why that wasn't there.

This is a curious hybrid of platformer and shootemup where you rehabilitate little 2D planets by planting trees on them.

It's an interesting idea but the game has some technical issues. On a high res monitor, the game menu doesn't display properly, and the game seems to be locked in windowed mode.

Technical issues prevent me from recommending this.

Idea is awesome, songs are awesome, gameplay is awesome BUT

- First try playing always crashes after 5 minutes, and then it seems to get stable and stability is NEEDED because:
- There is no save game.
- There are pseudo-checkpoints that don't save any of the buildings you built on any planet, just give planets to the player and no need to refight bosses, but no treasures too... and that is a pain

Dev, PLEASEEE if you still do something with this game, make it so when starting on checkpoints, owned planets start with the bare minimum I put on my planets: One pew tower and one moai next to each other... but usually I build waaay more in big planets...

TL;DR

[*]Games last a single life, which get longer as you get more money to unlock weapons and upgrades. After a couple games, they last as long as you want them to (barring game crashes, which are uncommon in my experience.)
[*]Games are initially relaxing but there are several "bad" powerups to make them challenging such as taking double damage, receiving no healing, disabling weapon upgrades, and increasing enemy aggression
[*]Lots of upgrades, costumes, weapons, and powerups combined with randomized galaxies make for tons of replayability
[*]Scores are based on single games, not cumulative, and only log once you die, This can result in frustration if your life has gone on for hours and you've accumulated a high score in the millions and then the game crashes.
[*]Music is intermittent rather than looped- I've gone anywhere from 1-30 minutes without music.
[*]NPC's are tight-lipped and you'll find items that seemingly have no purpose. A dependency on guides is created but luckily there's a very comprehensive one on Steam.
[*]Achievements aren't difficult, just obscure or time-consuming. Game has SIX card drops due to the amount of cards required for a badge.
[*]ETA: If you crash, the only thing that's lost is your game score. You'll still keep the money, artifacts, and costume unlocks.

It's cute with a little quirk and deceptively addicting. I bought it on sale a couple years back and let it sit inactive until a couple days ago. It was a mistake to let it sit in my library for so long! I assumed my foray into this game would be a quick 1-2 hr dip but it ended up pulling marathons out of me.

It has me hooked with its replayability- due to the randomized galaxies, you can't start new games knowing where everything is and finding every powerup, costume, and weapon in one life is impossible unless your luck is crazy good. The dialogue is unique and cute without being obnoxiously twee.

The story isn't overwrought, it doesn't hijack the game by overloading you with scenes, decisions, or dialogue. Instead it takes a lighter hand and prods at you gently throughout your personal cosmic journey. You're aware of the history and the stakes but the game lets you goof off and explore. A boss is dropped on you at specific points, but if you know what points trigger a battle you can avoid them indefinitely.

That brings about a slight con- because of the minimalist dialogue and vagueness of hints, many aspects of the game are cases of Guide Dang It. In my first playthrough, I found an item that had no real info- it turns out it requires players to do two somewhat odd things with it to unlock a costume with a very useful ability.

Also, it could just be me but the steam overlay doesn't load with it and FRAPs doesn't respond to it either. This means no screenshots unless I go the old prt screen + MS Paint route. So I couldn't screenshot my progress during a very fruitful 7 hour run in which I unlocked many things and tripled my previous high school. Screenshotting would have been nice as the game crashed, and one's score is only recorded at death.

On first inspection, Cosmochoria offers quite the hook as a space-growing-orbital-platformer. However, the game quickly devolves to a tedious grind; rinse and repeat planet to planet, but with the added nuisance of incessantly impending enemies. At no time is combat welcomed or challenging and it’s quick to undermine the pleasantly meditative planet farming.
