I recommend it because the team obviously have a vision for the game and the world where it takes place in. I just have a few nitpicks that I want to voice out:
-The puzzles were tedious. Too much time is spent trying to figure out annoying puzzles. I almost stopped playing the game because of this.
-I like how deeply the MC is involved in the story, but I did notice that they have very little to say about their connection with their Coromon. I don't know, it just feels like the Coromon are treated as nothing but weapons or tools to an end rather than valued companions.

Anyway, I finished the game and liked it overall. Do recommend.

I really appreciated this game. It feels like a breath of fresh air in the monster collector genre, even if it relies heavily on Pokémon’s game design. Since I love those games, I consider this a positive feature. Every game mechanic is well thought out, and the creature designs are really cool. I am not a huge fan of this style of pixel art, but Game Freak is on another level, so I cannot say they did a bad job (at least they put effort into the animations XD). I hope to see a sequel in the future, because they can only evolve the formula and become the true 2D Pokémon-like monster collector we fans deserve.

Coromon ist ein absolut empfehlenswertes Monster-Taming-RPG, das sich perfekt auf dem Steam Deck OLED spielen lässt – flüssige 30–60 FPS und eine ProtonDB-Bewertung von „Gold“ bestätigen, dass es unter Linux/SteamOS fast problemlos läuft. Besonders nach dem Remastered-Patch hat das Spiel massive Verbesserungen erhalten: Die UI ist jetzt viel intuitiver, es gibt sinnvolle QoL-Features, und selbst kleine Details wurden optimiert. Allerdings und das ist mein einziger, aber nerviger Kritikpunkt drückt die „A“-Taste auf dem Steam Deck in der Oberwelt manchmal alles Mögliche ungewollt: Statt mit NPCs zu reden, aktivierst du Module oder interagierst mit dem falschen Objekt, was den Spielfluss unötig unterbricht. Gamebreaking, aber definitiv ärgerlich.
Ich spiele Coromon auf Englisch, und genau diese Version kann ich auch empfehlen: der trockene, leicht absurde Humor kommt hier richtig zur Geltung. Wer wie ich einen „Alten-Herren“-Humor mag, wird sich köstlich amüsieren – vorallem die spröden Kommentare der PCs sind („Well, well, well… that’s deep.“ beim Blick in einen Brunnen). Das Spiel nimmt sich nicht zu ernst, ohne dabei billig zu wirken.
Was Coromon aber wirklich auszeichnet, ist die Liebe zum Detail: Die Pixelgrafik ist kein billiger Retro-Ableger, sondern eine bewusste Hommage an die Game Boy Advance-Ära. Die Welt wirkt lebendig, die Animationen sind flüssig, und die taktischen Kämpfe mit Ressourcenmanagement (SP-System) und individuellen Skill-Bäumen heben sich deutlich von Pokémon ab. Hier merkt man, dass die Entwickler ihr Genre verstehen und es mit Respekt, aber auch mit eigenen Ideen weiterdenken etwa durch die Nuzlocke-Option, die Schwierigkeitsmodi oder die Möglichkeit, Statuspunkte selbst zu verteilen.
Fazit: Coromon ist kein revolutionäres Spiel, aber ein rundum gelungener, liebevoll gemachter Monstersammler – technisch stabil, witzig geschrieben und mit genug Tiefe, um auch nach der Story noch Spaß zu machen. Für Steam Deck-Besitzer ein absolutes Muss, für alle anderen ein sicheres Kaufargument, wenn man auf Pixel-Art-RPGs mit Charme und Humor steht. Und ja, ich habe tatsächlich bei „Well, well, well“ laut gelacht. Das sagt alles.
10/10 – Würde ich sofort wieder kaufen. (Und ja, ich hoffe, das „A“-Taste-Problem wird noch gefixt. Bis dahin: Geduld ist eine Tugend.)

This "remaster" broke the game. I could barely get through the intro, because my controls barely worked, and everything took forever to load, or certain UI just wouldn't show up. Even just trying to scroll down menus was broken; just launched me back up to the top. I hope the devs fix this, because I really liked Coromon before the update, and the features they promised in the remaster announcement seemed really cool, but clearly something has gone wrong, and now playing the game is extremely frustrating.

Edit: My original review above was a negative rating due to the bugs I encountered after the remaster dropped, that made even just getting through the intro extremely frustrating, but now I can gladly say that the devs have fixed all the issues I mentioned, and responded very swiftly! Now the game runs like a dream! I'm so glad I can play Coromon again, and especially experience all the cool new features in this remaster version! I hereby enthusiastically recommend Coromon again, as it truly is a great game, both before and after the remaster!

I finally wanted to try and commit to playing through the entire game, but it will entirely freeze permanently at random on Windows 11 after the newest update, so I can't recommend trying to play it at the moment since you will most definitely lose progress from forgetting to save / autosave being not frequent enough.

簡単に言えばポケモンライクなRPGゲーム。ゼル伝シリーズのよな謎解き要素も多く、そこは好き嫌いが分かれるかも？
ポケモンとの違いはタイプ数と、技のみでしか使えないタイプが存在すること、そしてわざポイント（PP）の代わりに、技を使う時はスタミナを消費する、海外製ポケモンライクゲームだとよくあるシステムであることでしょうか。
パクリゲーではなく、ポケモンには無いボス戦のような所でしっかりオリジナリティを出していたりと、真っ当にオマージュしています。
個人的には総プレイ時間が約190時間行くくらい好きでした。

ですが先日2026/03/20に行われたアプデの影響か、日本語翻訳がちょっとアレな感じに……。
非常に好きなゲームだったこともあり、そこだけが非常に残念です。
文章自体は問題無いかもしれませんが、漢字が多分中国語の方のやつになっている箇所が相当数あります。
アプデ前は普通に読めたのですが……。ゲームに使用されているフォントの影響かもしれません。
現状はそこさえ除けばインディーズゲームの中でもかなり良い作品だと思います。

Bought this game a while ago and never played it. Just started a couple days ago, and I have one major issue with it. The game freezes every 20-30 minutes. I've looked up the issue and it's apparently been around for 3-4 years and has never been fixed. I wish I'd played this game when I first bought it so I could refund it. I'm glad I got it on sale (I think). If you're gonna get this, get it on sale, not full price. Full price, not recommended. On sale, 50% off or more, recommended.

A big patch just came out that unfortunately broke the game for steamdeck/linux. A lot of people, myself included, cannot even start a new game because the game freezes when it tries to load past the title screen. Additionally, the controls are now broken for steamdeck. Unless and until these issues are fixed, this is a no for me, unfortunately.

If you want a game like old school 2D Pokemon for PC this is definitely one of the better ones, I would compare this to EvoCreo and Nexomon but just like those games Coromon also has some very unique mechanics and the story is really good on this one.

Would I recommend this game? Absolutely. This is a really solid game if you’re looking to scratch that monster-catching/trainer itch. It’s very much a Pokémon-style game, so if you enjoy Pokémon or other creature-collecting games, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy this too. It takes a lot of what works well in those games and brings it together into a really nice package. It’s also very kid-friendly, though some of the mechanics might take a little time to get your head around at first.

The narrative is simple but enjoyable and progresses in a clear, linear way. Each area feels distinct, which helps keep things fresh as you move through the world. The NPCs have some interesting dialogue, and while you don’t get branching choices like in RPGs such as [i]Mass Effect[/i], the curated story experience works well. There are some fun side quests and a few quippy lines throughout that add to the charm.

Visually, the game is charming and the art style suits it well. It looks even crisper with the remastered update, which was great to see and gives me confidence in the studio going forward. I think it will hold up well over time. That said, it can occasionally be a bit harsh on the eyes during longer sessions. Something about the way the lines, layers, and shadows are presented can make it feel slightly blurry, almost like going cross-eyed. Aside from that, I do really like the overall look.

The sound design and music fit the game nicely. The ambient soundtrack is simple but relaxing and matches the tone well. Sound effects line up with what’s happening on screen, and overall the audio complements the experience. There’s no voice acting, but the way sound is used alongside text and visuals still keeps things engaging.

Gameplay-wise, it’s straightforward Pokémon-style turn-based combat. It’s easy to pick up, the UI is clean and simple to use, and experimenting with different abilities and moves for each Coromon is actually a lot of fun. Levelling feels rewarding and isn’t overly difficult, though it can take a bit of time. The game also includes PvP, but I didn’t engage with it. From what I can tell, the player base is fairly small, so finding matches might be a bit of a challenge.

There’s a good variety of Coromon to collect, each with different playstyles depending on how you want to build your team. Like most games in this genre, there’s also a rarity system similar to shinies in Pokémon. If you enjoy hunting for rare variants, you’ll get that here.

One system I do want to highlight, and unfortunately criticise, is the way you increase a Coromon’s potential to reach shiny status. I’m not a fan of how this works. Getting a high-potential Coromon is already difficult, and if you find one close to max (like a 19), you’re encouraged to use the Potentiflator to push it higher. The issue is that the chance of hitting the perfect 21 is extremely low, around 2% according to the wiki, and you only get one attempt per Coromon.

Because of that, players who want to optimise will often resort to save scumming. Even then, it can take a long time depending on RNG. In most cases, it’s actually more efficient to just hunt for a natural 20 instead. It ends up feeling a bit unrewarding. A better system would have went far here, maybe if it allowed multiple attempts at a higher cost or included some kind of pity system. As it stands, it’s the one part of the game that feels poorly designed. Everything else works well.

Another thing I didn’t enjoy, which ties into the achievements, is the minigames. I’ll just say this now, whoever added Flappy Swurmy and Swurmy Rush… I hope both sides of your pillow are warm and your chair always leans slightly sideways.

That said, I do want to give credit where it’s due. The remastered update made these minigames much more manageable. Before, they were the main reason I couldn’t fully recommend the game. Now, they’re in a much better state, and because of that, I can comfortably recommend the game.

Overall, the game has a lot of solid content and is genuinely enjoyable. I think the base price is fair if you want to jump in straight away. That said, it’s an older game and goes on sale often, so waiting for a discount is probably the better option.

[h1][b]Achievements:[/b][/h1]
[i][b]There are a couple of difficulty-related achievements, some seasonal ones, a few missables, and a handful of miscellaneous ones. Because of the difficulty achievements, you may need two playthroughs unless you start on the hardest difficulty straight away.[/b][/i]

Previously, there were two extremely difficult achievements tied to the minigames. These alone were enough for me to not recommend the game to achievement hunters. However, with the remastered update, these have been reworked and are now very easy to complete. Because of that, I can now confidently say this is a really enjoyable 100%.

For context, the two achievements are:[list]
[*][i]Flappy Master[/i] – reach a score of 500 in the Flappy Bird-style minigame
[*][i]Rush Master[/i] – reach a score of 1000 in the runner-style minigame[/list]
Before the changes, both were far harder than anything else in the game. They required long, consistent runs with very little room for error, and there weren’t really any shortcuts unless you used external tools.

Now, though, they’ve been heavily toned down. If you enable the settings in the minigame menu, you can complete them without much trouble. If you want the original challenge, you can still go for it, but it’s no longer a requirement.

For the difficulty-related achievements, I’d recommend overlevelling your Coromon and making use of save scumming where needed. It’s manageable, but it can still be a bit of a challenge. Personally, I’d suggest doing most achievements on an easier difficulty first, then tackling the hardest mode in a second playthrough.

With the current state of the game, the achievements are now straightforward, enjoyable, and well worth going for.

Ein Monster-sammelspiel das leicht zu verstehen ist.
Finde es sehr gut das man den Schwierigkeitsgrad jeder Zeit neu anpassen kann, so ist es für Spieler die merken das es zu leicht ist nützlich es sich schwerer Einzustellen, sowie für Anfänger in diesem Genre es sich jederzeit leichter zu machen.
Die Grafik gefällt mir sehr gut, es gibt Errungenschaften im Spiel somit haben auch Spieler die Aufgaben haben wollen damit auch ein Ziel das sie nachgehen können.
Die Story finde ich bisher Interessant das es mich dabei hält weiter zu Spielen zu wollen.

le jeu est vraiment cool mais en même pas 1 heure de jeu j'ai déjà eu 3 freeze ce qui m'a obligé à fermer et relancer le jeu sans pouvoir sauvegarder, il y a serte des sauvegardes automatiques mais cela gâche l'expérience, ma config est pourtant au dessus de ce qui est recommandé

Enjoyable game.

Compared to the most famous title of the same genre, mechanics are similar, a lot of 'mons designs are even cooler and it has less grinding for "perfect" team.

What convinced me to write a review was the recent update, despite development of the game stopped years ago.
Although the developer studio is now working on a new title, they wanted to share with us on this game a lot of QoL improvements, graphics and a lot of new stuff, which in my opinion is a glimmer of hope in an otherwise greedy enviroment of game developing. Kudos! Much appreciated!

Really fun monster collector. I like the gimmicks and types a lot! There are also some REALLY fun boss battles that I wasn't expecting that really add to the world of the game! The final battles (the Crimsonite ones) are a little annoying to get through because of the lack of type advantages, but that's pretty minor.

Recomendo muito este jogo pra quem que uma jogabilidade igual a de pokemon so que sem pagar 500 conto pelo jogo, tem captura tem historia tem tudo, so que o unico ponto negativo que eu vou dar pra esse jogo, por que eu ja zerei milhoes de vezes no meu celular, tem muita conversa, e isso e o que faz a maior parte dos jogadores desistirem no meio da game play, mas o jogo e realmente muito a variante dos shinys deferentes e muito bom, so que eu acho que vcs poderiam fazer o jogo parecer mais igual ao ultimo video que vc postaram, seria muito bom tambem adicionar os coromons do novo jogo que vai sair o rocket planet no coromon, tipo assim no dia de lançamento do novo jogo, vcs poderiam lançar uma atualização dos novos coromon, seria legal, dito isso 10/10 pro meu jogo favorito de captura

After losing my mind to Flappy Swurmy, I finally can review this gem.

Classical mongame where you catch Coromons and battle with them. The story is there somewhere... It's not bad, but I've already forgotten it.

What's important. The design of monsters is amazing! The most beautiful and unique monsters you can catch, with really good color variations when they are "potent" or "perfect". There are also skins you can unlock throughout the game.

I really enjoyed it and completed it twice to get all the achievements, and you know what? If you want to 100% the game - good luck. You'll sooner lose your f**king mind playing "Swurmy Rush", and then get f**ed by "Flappy Swurmy".

Anyways, great game.

dang it, i wish i knew "Pokemon revolution Online" did exist before buying this game.
Do not buy this game its a copy of pokemon and it might confuse you with the Original game.
i did already play it 4 hours so i cant gat no refund, sadly .
Not a good game for me, and sadly there is no Original pokemon in steam.
Pokemon revolution Online is free to play and has alot online players with pvp, also works on mobile
( for those who dont know )

Эта игра принесла мне удовольствие, но я не смогу её рекомендовать.
При всех её хороших сторонах есть довольно спорные:
-Музыки не хватает, она очень быстро приедается, особенно из глав. меню и стартовых локаций.
-Очень много скучных и долгих диалогов, я понимаю, что это раскрытие сюжета, но они тормозят, а не завлекают.
-Особенно бесило, что нужно ходить очень долго чтобы тебе провели изменение таланта или потенциала.(лучше сразу, без ожидания)
-Есть интересные механики, но ими не хочется пользоваться: пример это грибы, крафт хилок и раскопки.
-Под середину игры и особенно под конец, игра будто сбавила обороты, головоломки стали скучными, враги легче. СЕРЬЁЗНО ЛЕДЕНОЙ ТИТАН ЭТО НЕМОЩЬ( и если у 2 и 3 титана были прикольные механики, то другие этим похвастаться врят ли смогут)
-Ты спас мир, и об этом говорят только несколько персонажей, остальные словно нечего не было( можно было хотя бы 1 фразу добавить)

При этом есть плюсы которые я не могу не отметить:
+ Есть правда кайфовые композиции(битва с титаном, 3, 4, 5 локации шикарный музон.
+ Простой и понятный сюжет, хотя порой излишни растянут.
+ Не дурные попытки разнообразия( хотя ими ты толком не пользуешься ибо надоедает)
+ Система потенциала, деволюция, таланты.
+Очень хорошие спрайты у коромонов, чувствуется индивидуальность( правда не одного названия мне не запомнилось)
+Возможность делать назлок сразу в игре, это прикольно.(хорошие настройки сложности
+Костюмы за выполнения определённых действий(я так и не получил выкопанного крота)

В общем, я бы лучше подождал возможное продолжение, которое будет по качеству лучше.
Но мне правда понравилось, и если все минусы вас не пугают дерзайте:)

There is something off about it.

I felt an odd dissonance, even when starting the game; a mild irritation that grew as I played. It is not a bad game, having nice QoL features and game options for a creature collector adventure; but yet it felt unfun to engage with.

Other games of a similar vein (*cough* pokemon *cough*) have issues, but transition you into new stuff that catches the eye or teases interest/wonder/possibility, instead of whatever is going here...

The biggest things that I can pin down as an issue, (I stopped after the 1st Titan), is that the "world" you are playing in doesn't seem like a place people live in, just a string of houses and buildings you move between, and you need to rush by them to get to the next thing; "oh look at this, anyways moving on..." My motivation rapidly evaporated even as the mechanics and systems opened up. The beginning crumbs of the overarching plot started forming and I was completely indifferent to the events unfolding.

(I think it was a presentation issue mainly, this could have been great if it didn't "feel flat"; I got this in a bundle and finally got around to trying it)

Really fun Monster Taming game!

Positive points:
- The monster designs are really well done. Animations and so are really good.
- The world is well designed. Teleport between visited areas is also available really early. Fun little puzzles. The gauntlet with a ton of gadgets to interact with the world and reach new areas and items. Also items to improve and variate which monsters you encounter!
- A lot of features to train and improve your monster team. Leveling Potential for each Pokemon, the feature to increase it for your existing monster. A ton of traits that can be actively changed/chosen at some point. Your monsters learn all attacks forever, and you can always change the 4 active skills, is great!
- Challenging combat! At least the first half so far, it's not possible to just train one monster that defeats everything! The boss fights also need utilization of status effects, not just pure damage!
- A lot of customization for your character, A LOT. That you find on your journey. Also Skins for your little monster friends!
- Built in options to customize how the game/combat works. A lot of challenge runs possible with this. Also randomizer options build in the game already! But also options to make it less random and less challenging!

Some minus points:
- The few number of Types the coromon can have, limits the effectiveness of your coromon in combat a lot, at least in the beginning, where your monsters mostly only have one type of attacks that is only effective for exactly one counterpart type... In Pokemon e.g. most types have multiple types its effective against.
Also trainers don't specify on one type of monsters, which means your monster is effective to one enemy and weak against the next one.
This makes combat really struggling, and you need to stock up on healing items a lot.
Or activate the option to be asked to change your monster after each defeated enemy, like in Pokemon. But that feature is off by default!
- Updated cause progressing further in game, some spoilers: The end part is sadly not that well done and a bit out of place. You encounter a new monster type, the alien type, processing through the story. And that type is resistant to EVERY other type except itself. [spoiler]The last area and boss are exclusively this type.[/spoiler] So you are met with damage sponges. You can either struggle through these battles with the team you trained and grew attached to, or you catch new alien type monsters to have an easier time with the ending... It's less tedious, cause you can choose which attacks your team should use, so it really doesn't matter to train a monster from low level up, you can just catch any high level monster and set the attacks you want. Makes you less attached to that monster tho... [spoiler]Also there are almost no trainer fights anymore, in the area before the last two bosses, which feels out of place compared to the rest of the game.[/spoiler]

game is fun but the controller settings for this game are broken because the "A" button is both "A" and "B" and you can't change it because when you try to bind the back button it closes the menu which is funny honestly but the game is still playable so far on steam deck just has that one annoying binding

Gen 3/4/5 Pokémon with several differentiating and POSITIVE spins on the whole formula. A must for fans of old/mid school PKMN fans. Will renew your faith in the creature collector/battler genre. All this and I'm only halfway through, and started on hard mode, as a veteran of a few Gen 3 Nuzlocke runs.

first time playing pokemonish type game and I dont know why its genre thing or the game itself for my humble opinion game is very tedious and boring, had to force myself to end it. on normal difficulty you can just use one monster and spam one skill, items, money and everything is useless. minigames could be a great idea to make gameplay less tedious but instead it makes things WORSE. 2/5

It's a retro monster-taming RPG. With only some exaggeration, you already know how it plays. To me it didn't feel particularly better or worse than a Pokemon game, but was different in a few interesting ways, and was enough for me to be looking forward to the developer's next game. Like, it's not the first monster-taming game I'd recommend, but it's not bad. (Well, technically it is the first I'm recommending because I didn't review the others, I guess.)

It does have fewer types than the average monster game, especially counting only types that monsters can have (some types are skill-exclusive), but you don't really feel the difference much in gameplay, and it means each type can have more than a couple monsters. Also for some reason everything is mono-type. Not really a complaint, but just feels a little weird.

Some things I liked:
* The level curve feels fine, with minimal grinding needed as long as you're fighting trainers.
* They provided a reason to think about not evolving your monsters.
* There were a couple interesting challenges around the mid to late game.
* Giving monsters 3-5 possible passive abilities sort of makes it feel like there are more monsters.
* Some cool boss fights.
* The "Skill Flashes" have unlimited uses.
* When arranging your party, the cursor moves to the front of the party by default.
* Field abilities aren't tied to monsters, although that's just standard now anyway.

Some things I disliked:
* It felt like there was a lot of backtracking to heal. Even though the checkpoint system helps, and you eventually get an unlimited-use teleportation device, it still felt somewhat tedious, especially around the electric area. Maybe I should've used more items to heal, but they're kinda expensive relative to what fights give.
* Mandatory minigames, including a stealth segment. Sure, they provide variety, but they're not really what I'm here for.
* The lack of trainer classes with visible type specialties makes lots of encounters feel very similar, although this isn't strictly negative because fighting teams with mons of different types on them is a little more interesting.
* They seem to think the best thing about the old Pokemon games is that sometimes items could be invisible. You do get a scanner midway through the game, although the sparkle on detected items is pretty short. Then you get another scanner that digs up invisible items that only sell for money, which fortunately you can ignore completely.

This game is basically a checklist of the best QOL and mechanical fixes that Pokemon should have implemented a long time ago squeezed into a very tight, albeit pretty short, game. I bought it on sale at $4.99, and I think that's the right price for it. While I don't see myself ever replaying it, I think if you're the target audience for this, the pre-3d Pokemon players, you NEED to play this at least once. 4/5

I really wanted to give this game a good review, because it caught me like rarely another indie creature collector did.

Beautiful animations, great designs, concepts, and music, and combat works well for the most part, interesting story so far too... everything is almost perfect. They even have a shark starter Coromon.

The reason I give this my final thumbs down is the second major boss fight wrecking my near endless patience and I've grown so frustrated I don't see myself touching this game soon. Here's why:

I am aware it's made unusually difficult on purpose and that's not a bad thing. My usual team couldn't do much, so I trained one coromon with advantage over the boss. Failed multiple times. I trained three more of different typings and matchups to fill my team for this one fight only. Failed multiple times. I looked at forums and discovered one or two specific Coromon can win this with ease. It's a good idea that you cant brute force your way through, but having this little of a chance with the majority of Coromon, in addition to the grinding necessary to even hurt the boss... not so much. I tried anyway and trained one more Coromon from lvl 10 to lvl 28 (still underleveled but viable) and tried the order of steps the forum recommended. The game crashed not once, not twice, but FIVE times on FIVE different occasions in said boss fight, and not in the middle, no. I was almost winning, every time. I checked my PC, I checked my graphics. I've had more patience with this game than an IT guy in a retirement home, but the frustration this caused in me is starting to overshadow the great time I had with Coromon up til then.
If it wasn't for the crashes, I would've beaten it and come back with a better review and a finished story. Shame.
