Simple but very well done gameplay loop, so far all the weapons I tested feel good to shot and their reload mechanics are rewarding to learn !
On easy mode the enemies are totally manageable if you don't get overwhelmed by their amount.
The game being under 400Mo is also really nice :D

Played this in meta quest standalone but decided to buy PC version as i experienced some frame drops in Hard mode with old schooler mutator.

it's the best boomer shooter VR you can play, with some more detailed interactions on guns compared to other pure arcade shooters.

PC version offers many good advantages like better performance, better resolution, and some nice features like monthly challenge and seed management.

Highly recommended All time VR classic, especially with old schooler mutator.

しかしシステムがシンプルなためほぼプレイに問題ありません。
言語問題で買うのを躊躇している人は安心して買ってください。

目的はフロアの敵を全滅させた後ゴールに向かう事。これを繰り返して最終ボスまでたどり着く事。
スタートからエンディングまで通しでいければだいたい1時間位のボリュームでしょうか。
なんだ短いなと思われるかもしれませんが、一度死んだらスタートからやり直しです。
ステージ構成はランダムになっていて毎度どこに敵が潜んでいるかわからなく、主人公のHPも多くはないので緊張感のあるプレイが楽しめます。
敵を一定数倒す等の条件を達成していくことにより新しい武器がアンロックされていき、今回はこの武器を使ってみよう（あるいは使わざるを得ない…！）となったり、
難易度も3段階ありますが、高難度になると新たに個性的な中ボスキャラが増えたり……。
通しプレイの長さそのものが短いので昔のアーケードゲームの用な感覚で遊べ、リプレイ性は高いと思います。
……難易度も高いと思います。（この敵にはどういう戦い方が有効なのか、というのをプレイヤーが覚えていくと進めやすくなっていきます）

特徴的な部分として腕に現在マップやＨＰ、各種弾薬の確認ができるデバイスを装備しています。
ダッシュはできず移動はそこまで早くないのですが、一度通った場所はマップをタッチしてワープできるので
後戻りや敵全滅後のゴールへの移動はスムーズに行えます。便利！
武器は右手、左手、ストックの3個まで持ち歩けますが初期ピストル以外はリロードの必要があり、リロードも片手ではできないので利き手とストックの2個持ちが基本になるかと思います。
武器を持っている状態で武器切り替えボタン（クエストコンならBやY）を押すとストックに武器をしまえます。
武器ごとにリロードギミックが異なっていてこれも面白い！効果音も良く気持ちいい！
ただし乱戦時は焦ります。

昔のゲームの世界に入り込んだような感覚になり、テンポよくどんどんステージ背景も変わっていき
敵のアジトに潜入していくこの感じ！とても面白いです！超オススメ！

Уныние и непонятно откуда "крайне положительные" отзывы.
Уровни плоские как в Wolfenstein 3D из конца 80-х годов и то всё в антураже офиса, что в жизни и так в уныние отправляет. Стиль lowpoly у окружения такой же унылый. Стрельба и противники тоже особого веселья не доставляют.

Купил в 2023 г., т.к. не было толком не трешовых шутеров-рогаликов для VR в стиме. Плюс купился на отзывы. Не смог заставить себя пройти игру и как оказалось спустя года игра просто унылая. Благо шутеров-рогаликов за последние года достаточно перенесли с Oculus Quest, где и уровни интереснее, игровые механики с сюжетом есть, даже если просто фоном.

Honestly a really satisfying and faithful "Doom" or "Wolfenstein" but in VR game. It is amazing to control and shoot. Weapons are abundant and add varity to gameplay and achievements are challenging!
I wish there were more levels and stuff but the score system and speedrunning could take this thing further as well.

The gameplay loop is very addictive and the artstyle works extremely well in VR. The world building is great and I absolutely love the sound design of the game. This game is a definite must have.

On a critical note though, the game has very little progressions for a rogue-lite. There are no perks or skill modifiers that make each run feel unique. The only kind of progression or upgrades available during runs is picking up new weapons. The game has not had a content update in a few years so I doubt such features will ever be added. The game does have "mutations" that you can choose before the run starts to switch things up a bit, but those only make the run unique once.

However, there are still plenty of progressions in the game. You have to unlock new weapons, trophies and mutations. These can then be found and used in subsequent runs.

Overall a terrific experience.

A rewarding experience for the hardcore VR shooter, favoring those with patience on the higher skill levels and harder modifiers. If you want to 100% this game, prepare for a repetitive kick in the balls! After ~64 hours, there are still two modifiers I haven't beat, but I am bound and determined to get that chaingun. It is now 100% personal every time I face Gold Leader.

Fun little VR roguelike low poly retro boomer shooter. Reasonably difficult, considering the (retro appropriate) slow projectiles and brain dead AI.

Conditional recommendation.
Sucks if you are not into roguelikes.

I don't get the point of roguelikes, I get pretty tired of starting all over again when I die. Just not fun. I'll play it once a year or so for a session, but I never am motivated to start again and play it through to higher levels.

A non roguelike mode would be nice.

This feels like doom, if doom clones were running rampant in vr in the 1990's. The gunplay is nice, the difficulty is wild but with vending machine modifiers, the game can play in many different ways. It's nice to break glass for a emergency pistol, using your hand or another pistol.

Compound is an absolute work of art. It's clear the developer put his heart and soul into this game, and the level of polish puts most triple A titles to shame. It knows exactly what it is, and more importantly, it knows exactly what it isn't. You won't be burdened with the weight of choices or even a comprehensive plot-line. It doesn't need those things to shine. Compound hands you a gun and says "kill". The retro feel and crunchy sound design coupled with some of the smoothest gun-play around makes this a must have for any VR gamer. Easy enough for casual players, but hard as hell at the highest difficulty settings for those who seek a challenge, this game will not disappoint.

Underrated VR title. Really fun, love coming back to it for a few hours here and there when I break the VR headset out. Gets very difficult at the hardest levels and is randomly generated so has a lot of replay value.
Sort of game VR was made for.

Recommend to play it wireless if possible and disable turning with the right joystick completely, adds to the immersion a lot.

A co-op mode or PVP would be absolutely amazing!
Props to the developer, amazing work for one person.

It's.. okay? It's not bad, but it's not mind blowing either. Sitting at around nine hours, I find that it's charm is starting to wear off a bit. Once the charm is gone, there's.. not much left?

I mean, hey, I've played roguelites and roguelikes, and I enjoy the genre.. but this doesn't really feel like one. There's not a massive supply of weapons, and not an exceptionally broad array of skills to choose from. There's no leveling up, that I'm aware of, nor are there weapons with different stats (keeping in mind the fact that, most roguelites or roguelikes kinda thrive in having a broad array of weaponry, skills, buffs and armor) which makes the game.. dry at times?

Listen, every level, while minutely different, is largely the same. Maybe a slightly different dusting of enemies, maybe slightly different placed doors, but it's not much more than slight variation. The lack of variation really kinda kills it for me, and the fact that bullets clip through the corners of walls and pillars, killing your run, is a huge pain, when you have to start from the top again.

Now, is it fun? For the first.. 8 hours? Absolutely. And if you're perfectly content with 8 hours of drop right in and play? If you appreciate the simplicity, or if you really love the art style (Which is pretty damn cool) then I'd say grab it. But watching the trailers for the game? You're seeing what you're getting, there's not much more to it than that. There isn't any currency, you aren't buying anything, there's roughly three weapons per class, and I think four classes? maybe? Red, Pink, Green, Blue. The selection isn't horrible, but it's not really offering enough variety for you, in my case, to drop thirty hours into it.

Now will I drop thirty hours into it? Maybe. Over the span of a couple of years, now that the newness has worn off. It's nice to get a shot of VR games into your system, especially if you suffer with VR motion sickness. Which is another direction this game excels in. Have I had zero issues with motion sickness in this game?.. No. Is it the best game I've played regarding VR motion sickness? Absolutely. I can sink about an hour of playtime in before I lose interest, or start to feel barfy.

So, would I recommend it? Eh? I'd give it a 7.2/10 where it currently stands. Just because, when the newness wears off, you've got that repetition and simplicity that, can be *okay* but for someone like me, it doesn't really offer any sort of extended playtime, or really, any reason to do runs, when there's nothing really to gain in the end, or bring back to your apartment once you get a Game Over. It's definitely one of those games that comes down to the player, if you're cool with drop in simplicity and you just wanna shut your brain off and enjoy the repetitive graphics? And if you're cool with gaining next to nothing from a run? I'd say give it a shot.

But try the Demo first, it's honest, it's straightforward, and it gives you a really great feel of what the game has to offer.... Do note, however, that the Demo gives you good feel of everything the game has to offer.

Great rogue-lite. Beautiful art style with pixelated textures that aren't jagged-looking, but nice and smooth. Because the style is what it is, you can crank up your HMD resolution and just enjoy perfect 120 FPS VR with no hitches.

There are I believe about 5(?) different "tile sets" that span across a full run of the game. There are a few mutators, but perhaps too few; guns get unlocked after reaching various milestones, and they keep the runs fresh, though I do wish there were something... extra. Not sure what; just something to make different runs feel more unique, or maybe to make it feel like you're building your character to do something in particular.

Most of the variety in the game will come from the guns you unlock. Shooting most of them feels good, and the reload functionalities of each is unique and very polished. Hands exhibit full Index finger position tracking (thank you, sir). It's not necessary in this game as it's more of a boomer shooter and so there is no real dexterity needed, but it's nice.

Levels can be shot up (papers flying, machines exploding), but I do find myself wishing that the levels had some more interactive elements to them like levers or buttons to expose secret rooms or set off traps for the enemies. There are one or two good ideas already in the game (like breakable glass tubes that spawn mutants) but those kinds of interactive level elements are few and far between.

Indeed, the reason I complain about having more stuff is because the game is great and I'm left wanting more. This is one of the only VR games I own that doesn't feel janky or jittery, where my hand is in the correct position, where physics objects don't just clip and explode, where the art style feels consistent (and not bought off an asset store). Bevan McKechnie didn't do any sloppy work here, and any VR game he releases in the future will likely be a must-buy.

$20 is probably the right price, but again, I wish there were one or two more updates in the pipe to add more mutators or ways to really freshen up runs (like branching paths into brand new tile sets). On a sale of course, the game would be a steal. For $10, literally everyone with a VR headset should own a copy of this game. At $20, I'd easily recommend it to anyone with a taste for boomer shooter rogue-lites.

A fun arcade-y shooter with a consistent retro style.

Bullets have some travel time, so you can dodge them or use corners to your advantage, which I always like in VR.
The game is pretty hard and makes you start from the very beginning if you die, but there is some meta-progression in weapon unlocks.

The only thing I dislike is that you produce your guns and ammo out of nowhere instead of having holsters for them.

its SOOO GOOD, The gun-play is amazing and the enemies are challenging yet fair. At first I thought the game was too easy (I was playing on medium) But NOPE After switching to hard the difficulty scaled a CRAP TON. There was new enemies, more enemies, and you had less health, so I doubt I'm going to get bored of the game soon. And don't even get me started on the bow, it feels SOOO GOOD. Hats of to the 1 dev that made this masterpiece. The only thing I'm semi-worried about is how much Ill enjoy the game after I beat it, It would be a really amazing idea to add an endless mode (assuming there isnt one already) And add more rouge like things like perhaps upgrades during runs (Faster running, more max health, more weapon slots, etc.) That would make the game even more repayable than it already is.

Very basic all things considered but it does everything right

TL;DR: Get it on a sale

This is going to be a slightly conflicting review, as I will be refunding the game soon after this review is up.
I am recommending this as the game has amazing combat and great weapon handling. But I feel like there is not enough content to hook me to keep playing. After 90 minutes of gameplay I feel like I have explored most of what is available. I have done near full runs (did not complete final level on each) on the Easy and Medium difficulty, and I have acquired most of the weapons (missing 4 to 5). This is also after spending ~16 hours in The Light Brigade. Personally, I know if I feel like playing a VR Roguelike Shooter, I will choose that game. I think another factor that took me away from the game is that it has not been updated in a few years. I know that the game is fully released but it just means that my issues with the content most probably won't be fixed.

I'd heavily recommend the game on a sale for you to try out and see if it hooks you, because if it does I can guarantee you you'll enjoy it a ton. It just didn't hook me unfortunately.

Addictive gameplay. simple but has enough to keep each playthrough fun and interesting. weapons are satisfying and easy to use, my only complaint about them is trying to grab the front grip with your other hand can be tricky sometimes but you do get used to it the more you use them. one handing weapons is just as effective so it isnt really much of an issue.

A great retro-looking game brought into the world of VR. Quick reflexes and smart movement (strafing, retreating, peeking, and/or dodging projectiles like you're in the Matrix) will determine how well you progress. In addition to the various Steam Achievements, there's a nice trophy wall in your starting menu room, letting you know how far you've come, and how much longer you've got to go. Weapon unlocks don't require you to grind, and with randomly generated map layouts, replayability stays high even after many playthroughs. A wide variety of enemy types, plenty of weaponry, and various game modes keep things fresh for hours and hours.

This is fantastic one of the best VR games.
Every aspect of the game is pure class.
What really makes this stand out from numerous other VR shooters is the lack of any jank. If you die in the game it is because YOU did something wrong.
There is a real challenge here if you play this on any setting above easy and that is what has kept me playing for 22+ hours.

Reminds me of they kind of game you would see in the background of a TV show. Fun with some satisfying gunplay and reloads. Definitely hard, but if you can take on Challenges like Damage Amp and Compound bow with ease, then the rest of the game will be a cakewalk.

Man this game is SICK!
Its refined, fun, fast and awesome.

Shout out to Speedblack for the awesome OST, but, nothings better than putting on a custom playlist of your own music and flying through the levels with the more enemies and faster bullets mutagen!

I think the price is fair for the quality of this game and the entertainment within it.

The design of the game is perfect, games don't need to be this hyper realistic if the devs know what they're doing like this dude. Another positive is it runs REALLY well.

Definitely recommend this game to anyone who loved DOS Box shooters and a challenge as you will sweat dodging bullets!
