Colony Ship is a turn-based, party-based role-playing game set aboard a generation ship launched to Proxima Centauri. The game features a detailed skill-based character system, multiple ways to handle quests, choices & consequences, and branching dialogue trees.
It is the Year of Our Lord 2754… You will never feel the sun’s warmth under a blue sky, never hear the wind in the branches of a tree, and never swim in the ocean, all because you had the misfortune to be born on the Ship, chained to a fate you didn’t choose. You have never seen Earth and you’ll never see Proxima Centauri either. You’re doomed to live and die on the Ship in the name of the Mission, like your father before you, like his father before him. The Ship is old. She had already been twenty years in service when she was rechristened Starfarer - a pretty name for a retrofitted interplanetary freighter. No one is certain the Ship will actually reach its destination, and nobody much cares, since no one alive now will live to see it. Might as well get on with your life and try to make the best of it.

This game is beyond great.
Essentially, it's not an RPG but a game about finding active points. Activating them will give you experience points, which will allow you to activate more difficult active points, and so on and so forth. Missing some active points can prevent you from activating more difficult ones later, so you're better off clicking on everything. Plus, there are battles, 80% of which are fairly easy and 20% extremely frustrating.
Fantastic. I hope one day the devs stabilise enough to make the planned sequel but for now play this game if you like CRPG's and Sci fi. Is Good.

Game broke for me. A main quest just screwed up. Went and did some other things saying I will figure out what I am missing later. Turns out its a bug. Im not going back and loosing all that work.
Games not bad. Cool world build and good writing. Heavily text based with no voice acting but also a bit clunky. Fun can be had here for sure. The bug just killed it for me. Its been out long enough that should not be excused in such a simple game.

Linear story, more like a book. Maybe a nice nice one but not what I consider a game.
You can put points on stats but there´s really only one way to build your char.
And... I wasn´t even able to walk anywhere, only to locations to search/talk to people...

I’m having a blast with this game. Underdog difficulty is really well tuned: enemies hit hard and mistakes matter, but it always feels fair. Some encounters took me multiple retries, yet I never felt stuck in a bad way—more like I was learning and improving. If you want a satisfying challenge, this is an easy recommendation.
This is such a gem , i am surprised others dont talk about it. If you liked games like shadow run this will be something you will enjoy. It covers all the bases , decent combat depth , reasonable character progression , sufficent options to approach challenges and varied weapons to specialise or generailse in and choices having consequences.
If they come up with a sequel i am gonna play that without a doubt. The only thing i feel is lacking is the camera control and some of the traversal limitations., the followers and companions are also rather ... bland and are just someone to fill roles.
Other than that would highly recommend for an isometric turn based RPG
Usually not a big CRPG guy, but was looking for an immersive sci-fi choice driven game. Having a blast with this one. I definitely recommend if you like narrative driven stories or Baulder's Gate 3.
I really like the theme and story line, and I also very much enjoy the freedom of choices you have in the game.
But sadly this is all negated by the terrible navigation this game has. Maybe it just got too big to navigate the ship properly, but as soon as you leave the "starting area" so many new regions get added to the map screen while the once you came from all but seem to disappear. Now I just keep running in circles trying to find my way back.
It seems I have to give up on ever finishing this game that started so promising. Such a shame! Was this game ever play-tested past the first area?

Тяжкая игра. Хорошая старая школа RPG, но очень критична к развитию и начальному выбору. При чем получилось так, что критична вплоть до невозможности пройти дальше. Вариантов реализовано много, но не задал параметры на старте правильно - и велика вероятность просто упереться в непроходимые моменты. Не задал харизму сразу - будешь в неполной группе. С неполной группой упрешься в невозможность выиграть бой. Не вкачал при этом разговоры и хитрость - упрешься в невозможность и разговором пройти. Не вкачал компьютеры и электронику - упрешься в закрытую дверь. Не вкачал стелс - упрешься в невозможность залезть в нужное по квесту помещение и спереть что надо. При этом в начале игры абсолютно непонятно, что будет нужно. В итоге получается, что игру проще начать заново и уже по опыту собирать персонажа.
This is pretty much a straight improvement over The Age of Decadence in almost every way, and that was already a damn fine role-playing game. Now, it has some very nice-looking graphics, unlike the very anachronistic look of The Age of Decadence, for the year it came out. The only real issue I have with this game is that by having a party of four characters, one gains the ability to do everything. By the end of my non-combat playthrough, I had nines across the board for speech skills, 10 in lockpicking and computers, and nine in electronics and biotech. I also got the 'versus machine' achievement, and if you know, you know. The point is that it doesn't feel like my character has a unique campaign like in The Age of Decadence, so the urge to replay isn't very strong. That said, this game carries forward the strengths of The Age of Decadence in terms of the branching campaign choices. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed The Age of Decadence. The combat has been improved a bit, too.

Shout out to warlockracy for doing a review of this game which caused me to buy this at full price, the first time ive done that since starfield in 2023. The devs being honest about needing more money to do bigger productions also heavily contributed to that.

Very good game. I was hoping for something to scratch the same itch as Fallout 2 and it didn't disappoint. It's very different to Fallout 2, but it's like poetry in that it rhymes. If you like games of that genre you will probably like this. Looking forward to more games from the devs.

Colony Ship is a good sci-fi CRPG and a big step up from Iron Tower's first CRPG (Age of Decadence). AoD was pretty rigid and didn't really let you diversify your build in any way. For example, if you wanted to be diplomatic, you had to dump [i]all[/i] of your skill points into diplomatic skills and stick to the diplomatic quests. CS takes a more flexible approach, with quests that accommodate a variety of character builds. In addition, you now have a party of characters, making combat viable even if your own character is focused on non-combat skills. There's still some content/options that are only accessible if you really specialize but it's all optional. There's a good spread of skill checks throughout the game so it doesn't feel like you can make a bad build.
Build flexibility aside, CS is still a challenging game. Combat is tough and strategic. You'll need to pay close attention to enemy resistances and equipment and prepare accordingly. This does require a bit of save scumming but that's not uncommon for CRPGs. Unlike in most RPGs, consumables are really important in CS and can make a huge impact on the outcome of any fight. Consumables that heal or buff you also apply significant debuffs once they expire, making calculated usage essential. On top of all that, everything in the game is expensive (I did a double take when I saw the price of grenades) and the resale value of your gear is very low, so you really have to manage your money carefully. That said, the game rewards you for exploring and doing so will provide you with most of what you need.
Overall, I found Colony Ship to be a very engaging CRPG that checked most of the boxes I look for in the genre. At around 40 hours for an attempted completionist run, the game has a lot of content even if you only do one playthrough.
Somehow I never heard of this when it was new. What a fun gem! Cyberpunky, post-apocalypticky, but at the same time neither.

The balancing is awful, The combat itself is ok but you eat through medkits constantly and enemies seemingly have infinite supplies. A lot of scenes in the game (Chapter 1) will give you no time to prep (Notably the siege) You have to kill 6 enemies and you get 6 men, Then it immediately makes you go inside and fight 6 more while you're already injured. Then without saying a word to you it makes youfight 4 more if you spared mercy. Without healing you.
There's a lot of situations like that, The MSQ itself throws insanely hard enemies at you while you can barely hit anything even with cheated in stats. The difficulty is masochistic and not in the good way.
great turn based, amazing story, characters are memorable, dialogue is enjoyable. can't ever sing its praises enough. Replayability is through the roof on this one

Having played Wasteland 2 &3 as other RPGs, I can say that this is a beautifully made RPG that, in my opinion represents a pinnacle of that genre! There are multiple paths to take through the game and some new paths appear to offer surprise twists! I highly recommend this game!
Amazing game, gives you a sense of wonder when you don't know what can be behind every corner.

Horrible gameplay.
A touch rough around the edges, need to read walkthroughs, but was a blast to play. I played two runs back to back, the second run was very enjoyable!
I absolutely adore this game. I only have three complaints. 1) I wish it was a little longer. 2) I wish there were a couple more companions to choose from especially early on. 3) They chose to go with a skill system that levels as you do stuff. Pick more locks and you get better at it. Persuade more people and you get better at it. Makes sense at first, but the issue is that, unless you are doing a pacifist run, you're going to have some tough fight in the game. And well, the only way to prepare for those tough fights... is to do more fighting.
So you are very incentivized to take as many combat encounters as possible, otherwise you just won't level up your combat-related skills. This is kind of a big oversight although it didn't bother me too much as I was planning on that kind of playstyle anyway as I enjoy the combat. But I could definitely see how it would bother others.
Now onto the good stuff. The world these devs created is just phenomenal. I absolutely love the lore, the characters, the setting, the atmosphere. I just couldn't get enough of exploring this world and learning more about it. This is easily the best part of the game.
The combat is pretty good, but it's not the best turn based CRPG combat system out there. Loot feels fun and rewarding, as is exploration. I really enjoyed how they implemented the energy weapons. Every type of weapon, even melee types, have an energy version that is very strong but takes a very limited ammo. Managing that ammo type is a big part of making your run successful.
All in all, it's a great game, and a big step up from their previous game, Age of Decadence. Can't wait for them to release their next game. If you are a CRPG kind of gamer, this is an easy buy in my opinion.

[*]Good graphics, the lighting and texture work surpassed my expectation, I was afraid it was going to be a UE asset flop. The equipment, armor, gun, energy guns, all look good.
[*]I don't encounter any bugs at all, no game breaking ones. Although, I need to access the options menu every time I boot up the game because the motion blur is on for some reason despite me already turning it off. Entering the options menu and exiting it immediately fixed it.
[*]Skills increased from in-game usage instead of putting point every time you level up is a welcome change, unique as well, especially in an isometric C-RPG.
[*]Combat systems and leveling up your characters are neat and simple in a good way (not overly complicated but still have some depth). Combat feels grounded, realistic and very lethal. It's not perfect though, there are some things I will address about it later.

[*]Interesting CRPG setting and lore, which fully take place on a big spaceship with so many factions running amok. It sets up to be a treasure trove of story telling, especially if the developers truly lean on the gritty aspect of it. But sadly, the writing fell short, it's just... decent. If the developers did a better job of presenting the story, the pacing, the narrative, even the encounters, it would probably be able to make me feel like I am in an immersive sci-fi setting like the Expanse, but all I got is just generic sci-fi. It shouldn't feel [i] generic [/i] but there's something wrong in the execution of presenting the world to the players. It's still an interesting setting at the end of the day, but there's so many untapped potentials.
[*]Playing as a character specializing in speech feels counterintuitive because the resolutions aren't satisfying. It's usually just me picking the green options, a skill check I had passed and it boils down to: Me - Just trust me. NPC - Okay. I am oversimplifying things here but you get the gist. And since the combat is fun/ the meat of the game, I ended up choosing the violent options more often than not.

[*]The music is just passable and there is only one track per map. There are a few good ones but most of them are forgettable. The right ambient soundtrack can go a very long way in this game but the devs didn't put much effort into this. A shame.
[*]Grenades are too powerful in combat, there is a reason the developers made a good grenade worth more than a pristine assault rifle. If you have plenty of good grenades in your belt, in the world of Colony Ship, you are the apex predator. The devs balance it by price and availability but you should still be able to accumulate a good amount of them. Using the grenades feel cheap and it could easily win some unwinnable fights. The grenades have 100% accuracy, and very low AP too. Want a good game that utilizes grenades very well? See Underrail.
[*]Trying to block a shot from hitting your vulnerable party member is janky.
[*]You cannot do reaction shots when being engaged in melee, but can still shoot other people besides the melee attacker when it's your turn. Why? Doesn't make sense. This goes for the AI as well.
[*]My main character focus on stealth and have 10 stealth at the end of the game, but I feel it is underutilized and the stealth mechanics are very basic. I can only remember one mission where there is full-fledged stealth section, only to be ruined by patrolling, walking enemies (the stealth mechanics fail hard if there is a patrolling moving NPC). It gets easier when you obtain a Cloaking Field but still, it's basic.

It is a solid 6.8/10 CRPG. This game reminded me of Wasteland 3 for some reason, for comparison purposes. Like I wrote above, Wasteland 3 presented it's world better than this game in many aspects, music, narrative, encounters, ambiance and systems. It's a shame because Colony Ship has a unique and interesting setting/premise, it's just lacking in execution. Still, the game kept me intrigued until the end and eventually I finished it, so it's not a bad game. Lastly, if you are an Age of Decadence fan, you will probably like this game.

I great Sci-fi game that works from start to end. All the bugs have been found and corrected with the help of yhe player community. It takes a few hours to learn the combat system and how to win in battles. The game can also be completed without combat.
Well worth the money.

Peak CRPG design. Easy buy for anyone who's a fan of the genre. Lots of scope (and to some degree necessity) to specialize in ways that make playthroughs extremely different
I'm a huge fan of Iron Tower Studio so I might be biased, but this game deserves a great deal more attention. Colony Ship delivers excellent writing, world building, and exploration. You begin as a nobody living in the cargo hold of an interstellar colony ship. There was a rebellion years ago, and much of the ship's infrastructure was damaged. Worse, no one even knows whose piloting the damn thing anymore. It's almost addicting to work your way through the ship, sliding into its bowels to uncover it's history. When I finally made it to the bridge, my jaw dropped.
10/10. No complaints. Great game. Play it.
TLDR: Difficult turn based story game that has a gritty and realistically written story.
Colony Ship is one of those games where you both are the main character, but are not. You are exactly as strong as everyone else. There is no power scaling, and levels don't give you more health. The quickest way to win fights is to be smart in how you approach them. Your party could be incredibly powerful and still fail in a fight that a group of naked inept scientists would win because they brought an emp grenade, gas masks, or thermal optics.
You have quite a large variety of ways to play it, with different endings. Your typical solutions to problems being smoothing them over, backstabbing someone, killing everything that talks back, or sneaking around. What is good is you can do all of these in the same playthrough.
I beat the game as a skill monkey, and honestly, clearly didn't have to be one. Realistically if you want to see all the content, you need to have high charisma on your main character. And by high I mean 7 or 8, which is quite easy. Everything else can be passed onto your allies quite easily, and only in debates/arguments do you need your character to use his persuasion. I would like to say you don't need it as you can play by just killing everyone you can't talk out of things but that would lock you from a lot of things and positive outcomes.
My only gripe is that at the end of the game I was so powerful and kitted I felt sad that I didn't have any big fight or anything waiting me like the encounter in their previous title. I would also complain that there is a set of armor you can get that is extremely difficult to obtain skill check wise, but it is just bad. Almost impossible to wear without major penalties so you need to be built to wear it. Then, it is actually worse than other armor combinations you have at that point. Enforcer visored helmet + combat gas mask gives 100 percent thermal, 100 percent toxic, 100 percent visual resist, and gives bonuses to random combat stats. Meanwhile, the helmet you can wear from the combat suit does none of those things. Not only this, but you have already beaten every major fight at the point you obtain it. I got it and I had actually 1 fight left in the game that didn't require you to wear the gas mask.
This is a really minor flaw though, as it is end game, and doesn't really matter at all. The rest of the game balancing is really good actually. People complaining about the ai being stronger are just not good at this type of game. You actually work off of the exact same mechanics and stat blocks the enemies do. You aren't even outnumbered usually, and even if you were, 90% of encounters are ended by throwing flash + poison grenades. You could probably win this entire game with just consumables honestly. The question would just be how much money you have to pay per encounter. Though, is it weird that you can win a fight against robots by throwing expensive EMP grenades?
Also, because I saw people saying that they get filtered at the detroit gang fight.
1. Save Smiles at the ambush
2. Use the thermal goggles found in the factory on whoever is your highest DPS and throw smoke (it's the earliest 100 percent thermal, so you can smoke spam and easily win the entire fight without even taking cover.)
Surprisingly fun isometric rpg game. Took me a few tries to get the hang of combat (and when to not combat), but interesting story, and fun game to play. Didn't experience any bugs or crashes.
Such a great game. hooked me from the start looking for a new tactical RPG, give this one a try.

Fun, expansive game.
An RPG with a fantastic setting and premise backed by a decent combat system. The writing had me laughing at the honest absurdity of some of the beliefs on the ship, but upon thinking about it, I could see how those beliefs were shaped during the time between the stars.
