I very much enjoyed it, and would love to see where it goes. Sadly, it was obviously silently cancelled and a follow-up will never be made. Therefore, there isn't much point in purchasing this unless you're okay with reading an unfinished story.
一款将悬疑 、 战争 和科幻元素融合的视觉小说，游戏背景设定在三战后的近未来，人类靠 “手甲” 技术诞生了一批少年战士 Gauntlet Knights，本来这上面三种元素融合能创造出不错的组合，可没想到竟然贪多嚼不烂了：世界观比较糊涂。全篇只堆砌五大阵营的政治对立，三战起因、手甲来源、社会样貌模糊空白，设定前后略微矛盾，一会儿是反乌托邦高压社会，一会儿又能轻松跨阵营约会聊天，像空中楼阁一样虚浮，上述种种让我在游玩过程中比较难以带入
游戏问题也出在 “格局太大”。Phase1 全程 10 小时左右、无分支，光登场角色就有近 30 位，五大阵营名词绕口，大量势力博弈与设定讲解堆在前期，节奏慢到像催眠。人物塑造更是仓促，多数配角一笔带过，主角团也没立起来，重复的个人剧情看得人疲劳，少年们的成熟感和设定里的 “kids” 也对不上，代入感大打折扣
剧情叙事比较碎片化，思路跳跃、台词偏说教，前半段全程铺垫，直到结尾圣诞之战才迎来高潮。炮火与圣歌交织的场面悲壮又讽刺，把 “少年被当作战争工具” 的内核拉满，收尾冲击力很强，可惜前面冗长的铺垫已经耗走不少耐心。游戏玩完给人种 “戛然而止” 的空虚
画面和演出在在与如今的视觉小说比较中规中矩，标志性的 “龙绘” 画风粉丝能接受，路人大概率觉得普通。全程无配音、PPT 式演出搭配廉价转场，配上百元以上的售价，性价比偏低。唯一值得夸的是配乐，科幻感与悲伤氛围拉满，结尾主题曲更是点睛之笔
总的来说，《白鹳鸣泣之时 Phase1》是一部粉丝向、未完成、优缺点极端的作品。它有宏大的世界观、深刻的反战内核和惊艳的结尾，却被冗长铺垫、混乱叙事、仓促人设拖了后腿，这款游戏给我的感觉偏粉丝向，适合龙骑士死忠粉来尝试

An amazing start, it doesn't matter that phase 2 isn't out yet this first phase is so rich and dense. Been thinking about it nonstop since I first read it, grab it when it's on sale. One of the few things that's offered me comfort in the awful times we're living in. I'd even recommend this to newcomers to ryukishi's work who are maybe unsure if they'll like higurashi or umineko,(though, ideally you should read those first of course) it's such a good showcase of what he's capable of as a writer, he's firing on all cylinders here

If you've played Higurashi and Umineko, you know what you're getting into here. It's a genuine Ryuukishi07 experience. You're gonna feel it.
My only hesitation in recommending Ciconia is it's "phase 1" of a currently incomplete story. If you're ok with buying the first game in a series, with no guarantee of any more to come in the future, go for it. But if money is tight you might want to wait for a sale. I mean, how much would you pay for Act I of Hamlet, or the first movement of Beethoven's Ninth? It's incredible, but we're missing something. :(
The best opening chapter to a WTC game to date very harrowing and the most thoughtful highly highly recommend if you're okay with a cliffhanger that will take a very long wait to resolve

1) Скучная мейн история. Долгая завязка, много мыслей автора о политике и мало диалогов между персонажами. Развитие очень медленное, а повторение одних и тех же тем автором надоедает уже на 5 часу чтения.
2) Незапоминающиеся мелодии, не сравнить с музыкой в чайках и цикадах.
3) Слишком много главных героев, большая часть нераскрыта полностью, но при этом они появляются сразу всей пачкой, а не по несколько персонажей как в тех же чайках.
4) Новелла вышла в 2019 году, спустя 7 лет на 2026 год нет новостей о продолжении, проект можно считать брошенным т.к. автор занимается другими делами.
Плюсы:
1) Техническая составляющая - все выглядит красиво, плавно переключаются сцены, есть анимированные фоны и много разных ракурсов. Крутой движок новеллы. Приятно читать.
2) Дизайн персонажей. Все круто выглядят, но при этом угадывается стиль рюкиши.
3) Если мейн стори была скучной и тягомотной, то после прохождения открывается архив с мини историями про главных героев, вот они крутые, много диалогов и раскрываются некоторые доп черты персонажей. Вот эти сцены напоминают старые работы рюка, в особенности чаек. Я бы хотел чтобы вся новелла была такой.
Но по итогу минусов больше, чем плюсов, НЕ СОВЕТУЮ. Основная проблема - мне просто не нравится жанр альтернативной история от рюкиши и его разглагольствование про политику. Если еще вспомнить что продолжения может и не быть вовсе, то лучше спиратьте ХЫЫ. А так получается новелла в раннем доступе ЛУЛ.

Если честно писал этот обзор уже раз 5 и не нашел правильных слов. В целом новелла является сборником мыслей Рюкусика на тему конфликта поколений и общественно стереотипичных проблемах особенно причинах войн, все бы ничего но они кажутся рассуждением обывателя и как к этому относится решит каждый сам. На самом деле я ни черта не смыслю в политоте, оттого каждый раз слыша о ней рассуждения я вижу кучу дыр, кучу недопониманий и противоречащих себе убеждений, от лиц которые о политике говорят, если с внутренней еще можно как-то прийти к консенсусу то внешняя всегда упирается в нажитый опыт и этот опыт у людей зачастую такой разный что аж страшно становится как все эти макаки в консервной банке уживаются.
Но что я о грустном в целом тут нет нравоучений каких-то. просто накидывают всего подряд и получается отменный венегрет, приправленный красным соусом который так любит автор, правда в этот раз его мало получилось. Весь наратив не сказать что плохо написан, но Рюкиси просто кидал в наратив все что мог придумать и делал вид что это действительно влияет на сюжет, но по факту это удавалось как-то посредственно. События вроде и происходят и последствия у глобальных событий есть, но градус как-будто не накаляется а война скатывается в обыденность. Потанцевал у наратива есть, ждем его дальнейшего раскрытия (дай бог здоровья автору)
Так как вы уже поняли что структуры у обзора нету я накину еще пару мыслей по поводу всего наратива.
Я просто не понимаю зачему нужна линия с Мяо, кроме как фансервиса и персонажа для легкой писанины, вот знаете есть персонажи которых сложно прописывать, а есть что-то типо мяо где можно накидать тропов и потом с ними лепить повседневность, в любом случае оно тут есть, но не смотря на всеми ругаемую дайверсити мне её показалось здесь не так много что аж хотелось бы кричать.
Взрослые персонажи почти все булки злые, нет понятно что есть мистические взрослые, но вот отдающие приказы генералы просто курам насмех, типичные агли бастарды, что слегка портит наратив имха, но я их в какой-то момент просто принял за условность.
Анимации мемные. Ох как же тут постарались, если магию из уминек я воспринимал как-то серьезно, сдешние эфекты невероятно позабавили.
Ну и ост. Ост к сожалению тухлый, окромя концовки и пары моментов он почти не работает. Тут просто туча потанцевала, ведь электронщика какого-нибудь можно было нанять супер легко, сетинг прям намекает на это жесточайше
Вообще вся эта история для любителей шпионской мути как-будто. Очень много мистики накидано, но она еще более вычурна чем обычно
Что интересно но не очень явно, религиозных тем задето было относительно мало, только в конце дают затравку, но большей линией идущей через всю историю считаю возвращение земли к истокам и людей к более первородной своей натуре.
Phase 2 is never coming out at this point.
Look, it's an interesting first chapter/episode/phase/part. But it's not worth that steep price at this point in time.
The characters are great and the story has a lot of potential. The music (and opening) ar all bangers. The typical Ryukishi07 horror is definitely there and doesn't disappoint, but we can't do much with what we have so far.
I also think that the excuse of "I'm rewriting the story because it felt like writing about Godzilla while Godzilla is attacking" is super lame and flatout embarassing. At least 1 war is happening at some point in time, what makes "that" war any different?! And nobody will be offended if you write about pandemics. R07 is never afraid to write about controversial things, so why is he suddenly like this?
I enjoyed what we have so far, but I can not recommend it; especially for that price. If this is your first When They Cry: don't. Read/watch Higurashi first. Read Umineko first. If you enjoyed those and crave more, then pick this up. But don't let this (for now) blueball of a visual novel ruin the series for you.
Seriously, buying and reading this game gives you a net negative.
You either:
1. Hate it and don't want to touch anything that Ryukishi07 writes again.
2. Love it and join us all in the infinite-wait limbo while he works on different projects with no news whatsoever.
Ciconia feels abandoned at this point. This review will change if -- God forbid -- Phase 2 comes out, but for now this will stay. It pains me to write this review, but it's extremely hard to recommend.
[i]I also have some things to say about the "woke" stuff (even though I don't want to sound like thát kind of guy) but it's not very subtle in this VN. Progressive themes aren't very new to the writer, but it was subtle and natural in Umineko. In this game it's like... in your face. It low-key feels forced at some points (just look in the Screenshots community tab for examples) as if a DEI consultant wrote it for him. It really didn't feel like he wrote those lines. I'm not talking about [spoiler]Meow[/spoiler]'s role in the story -- that's fine, it has its place in the story and is important to the overall plot -- but more the existence of the yaoi nuns. It's just weird and took me out of the story. I can't take those characters seriously after lines like that.
I know people reading this will dismiss this [u]entire[/u] review after this paragraph as me being a bigot of some kind, and in this day and age I don't even care anymore. Just ignore this italic paragraph then. Just focus on what I wrote above it. This is not a hitpiece, I genuinely liked this chapter and am excited for what's about to come(?). But I just want to warn people about setting expectations. This is a very weird entry in the franchise for a multitude of reasons.[/i]
Amazing! Probably the best start to any of the wtc games. Usually, or atleast for Umineko and Higurashi, it would take awhile, usually about half way through the first chapter or episode to get really good. Ciconia was interesting from the start. There's just one issue, there's no phase 2,3, or 4. Ryukishi pleasee...
even with a focus on setting up the world, characters, and conflicts, Ciconia managed to leave a massive impression on me and is a contender for my favorite game ever. and this is just part one. hopefully part 2 drops in the next couple years because i cannot wait for more.
must play for fans of VNs. dont let the slow start put you off, once it gets going it gets going.

우선 칭찬인 것이다.
글이 퀄리티가 상승했다.
키코니아를 읽고 쓰, 괭을 읽으면 용기사의 어린 티가 보인다.
뇌절이 없고 장황하지 않고 동어반복이나 했던말 또하고 또하고는 없다.
비유를 2절 3절 해서 어떻게든 전달하려는 것도 없다.
전체적으로 (쓰괭에 비해서) 문장이 짧고 간결하다.
젠장 용기사 너의 성장은 어디까지인것이냐.
용기사가 2페이즈를 내지 않는 이유는,
자신이 말하는 것이 미래로 갈수록 현실이 되어 나타나는 것이 두려워서가 아닐까?
키코니아 페이즈1을 19, 20년도에 했다면 오, 좀... 그럴 수도 있겠네, 하고 말았을 일이.
25년에 하니 충격의 연속이다.
주제와 글이 담은 내용이 2019년에 나온 것이라고는 믿을 수 없을 정도이다.
물론, 이와 같은 예견은 20세기의 글귀에서도 보일 법한 것들이 있긴 하나...
용기사의 장점은 전달력이다.
용기사의 전달력에 빠져들면 대깨용은 순식간에 이루어진다.
키코니아는 그런 점에서 용기사 특유의 전달력의 정점에 있다.
위에서 말했듯이 글에 뇌절이 없어서 더욱 빠르게 와닿는다.
여기까지가 칭찬 끝입니다.
이제 냉혹한 평가 들어갑니다.
1페이즈를 기준으로 평가하는 것이니 성급한 평가일수도 있는데...
용기사의 장점은 위에서 언급한 스토리텔링도 있지만 캐릭터 설정도 있다.
하지만 키코니아는 캐릭터 구성이 부족하다.
주요 캐릭터가 쓰괭 합친 것보다 많은데, 주인공을 둘러싼 인물을 제외하고는 공기 취급이다.
서사와 스토리를 푸는 데 시간을 할애해서 캐릭터에 몰입할 시간을 안 준다고 해야 하나?
처음부터 끝까지 거의 전지적 작가 시점으로 서술하기에 1인칭 시점이 잘 안 나와서 그런 것도 한몫하는 듯하다.
2,3,4페이즈 나오면 이것 또한 보완될지도 모르지. 1페이즈만 봤을 때는 그렇다.
그리고 장소와 거리감이 느껴지지 않는다.
히나미자와는 돌아다니면서, 오키노미야까지 왔다, 갔다 하면서 장소와 거리감이 있고.
롯켄지마는 장소는 히나미자와보다 좁지만 게스트하우스와 저택, 장미 정원, 일부 구간을 계속 왔다, 갔다 하니까 장소와 거리감이 있다.
하지만 키코니아는,
직장인으로 치면 평일루틴인 집출근-회사근무-사내식당(점심밥)-회사근무-집퇴근 을 반복하는 느낌이다.
내용만 다르지 대부분이 같은 장소, 같은 거리감에서 이루어진다.
맨프럼어스, 폰부스, 대테러라이브 라는 영화를 안다면 이해가 빠를 것이다. 딱 그것의 반 정도 한다.
그래서 플레이 중간에 뭔가 지루한데? 싶은 느낌이 들었다.
다행인 점은 위에 장점에서 말했듯이 용기사가 글을 잘써서 플레이할 때는 잘 느끼지 못한다.
그래서 재밌는가? 네.
그래서 추천하는가? 네.
용기사인데 또다른 용기사맛이 난다는 것이 장점이다.
쓰괭과는 다른 캐릭터와 서사여서 오히려 쓰괭만 파먹고 파먹었다면 추천할 만하다.

《白鹳鸣泣之时》是龙骑士07笔下“鸣泣之时”系列的第三部作品，作为《寒蝉鸣泣之时》与《海猫鸣泣之时》之后的故事，吸引着许多玩家的期待。游戏的背景设定在第三次世界大战后的未来世界。在这个世界有着五大阵营——AOU（环北冰洋联合）、COU（环中央洋联合）、ABN（欧洲中东联合）、ACR（非洲联合王国）以及LATO（拉丁美洲大陆条约机构）
整个游戏核心的设定就是一种名为“手甲”（Gauntlet）的革命性技术，但可能是因为本作只是游戏第一部的原因，本作中对于世界观的描写和一些事件的引出可以说是机械降神，并没有很好的将游戏的世界历史表现出来（其实作为第一部，更应该写一些游戏设定）。游戏中对于第三次世界大战只是表示了各国不愿意提及这段记忆，所以封闭了这段历史，如果这是为以后揭开历史作伏笔还好，如果只是简单的没写这段历史那对游戏的设定补充就有点少了。而且游戏中“手甲”的技术作为第三次世界大战后的产物，并且作为全篇游戏最核心的战斗科技，如果不能将来历等说明白对游戏粉丝无疑是巨大的打击。
其次在本作中出现的角色数量很多，粗略算来有二十多个，这些角色在游戏中分别隶属于不同阵营。理论上，这样的群像设计应该能丰富游戏体验，但是实际体验上游戏中的很多角色都是属于龙套。且由于篇幅有限，这么多的人物都要出场并且分到一点镜头，这就导致游戏中对于一些比较重要的人物也缺乏足够的背景铺垫与个人塑造，甚至本作的主角都没能塑造起来，再加上作者可能想让本作中的人物去代表游戏中的五个势力，他们身上都有一定的政治色彩，这就使得游戏的人物塑造更失败。
总而言之，《白鹳鸣泣之时》Phase 1是一部优缺点都十分明显的作品。在游戏中关于伙伴的友情，少年少女朦胧的爱情，个人的成长部分还是不错的，但是游戏中还有着世界观设定混乱，剧情展开生硬，角色塑造不足等问题，就目前来看，游戏的内容是不值得它的售价的，就算是粉丝都最好考虑一下。

I really don't understand the positive reviews. The soundtrack is medicore using mostly royalty free music. The UI and visual design is much worse than in Umineko / Higurashi. The writing is too repetitive and inconvenient for the reader. The price is too high and the story is unfinished.
The game has some very good moments in it, especially the beginning and the ending. But that pretty much covers only 2 hours out of the 20 hours of game time. The world Ryukishi built here is really promising and cool, but the execution was poor. You could cut maybe 60% of the game's content, and the product would still be much better than what we have now.
I just can't recommend the game, until we know, how the story continues. If the story continues, I'll update the review. For now: thumbs down!

Só 20 minutos porque a tradução, por algum motivo, não parece funcionar junto à Steam. Aí completei no Ctrl para pelo menos ter algum tempo ou algo assim.
Não sei me expressar bem em análises, essa é até a minha primeira que eu faço. Mas mesmo sendo assim, como um fã do trabalho do Ryukishi, me senti na obrigação de falar sobre, porque simplesmente o cara não erra nos personagens, não erra no mistério e, novamente, acertou demais no potencial que podem alcançar ao decorrer dos lançamentos. Espero muito que aconteçam, porque Ciconia foi uma experiência maravilhosa. O mundo, os personagens, as críticas sociais, a história, o PROTAGONISTA é incrível. A personalidade, as motivações, é tudo muito bom, e ainda tem muito mais que eu não posso falar sem dizer spoiler, principalmente da metade pro final. Mas é isso, muito bom.
Se fosse pra fazer uma crítica, é que às vezes pode ser um pouco cansativa a leitura, mas mesmo assim são tão minúsculas comparado com os momentos ótimos que se torna totalmente esquecível esse sentimento. E ainda depois você gosta, porque era necessário para a história.

Amazing first chapter, totally blew my expectations and I dont regret having read it knowing its already 6 years without phase2 in sight.
I dont want to sound pretentious when saying this VN so far is quite thought provoking, explorying themes of society, politics and human condition.
I didnt find a point in the story where I wasnt interested in the slightest.
I imagine some might think the writer would come as preachy when talking stuff like these but personally I dont find it like that, as it covers all views equally.
If anything, I feel that the story leads the reader into the consideration of existential nihilism. Be warned, it is quite a depressing story that touches events very similar to what has been happening in the last years as of the time of this review.
The pacing seems like an improvement compared to higurashi and umineko, at least on the beginning where those two take their time, but maybe its jsut that this kinda of story didnt leave for that.
Its a good thing that this first chapter is twice as long as those in higu/umi.
That being said what makes or breaks your enjoyment of the story will be decided if plots revolving around the themes mentioned earlier (eg: world politics, war) do not interest you or outright bore you.
It also focuses alot on world building.
The story at first also can sometimes feels like a series of disconnected scenes happening at the same time, though eventually everything comes together, but still.
Overall it was an amazing experience with some scenes that chilled me to the bone.
It is a shame that unlike higurashi and umineko, this first chapter isnt as much of a self contained story as those two, because you will be still wanting more.

[h1] 拥有庞大世界观的残酷美学 [/h1]
作为常年深耕在废萌领域的gal大神，在游玩白鹳之前就早早听说过寒蝉和海猫的名字，不过一直因为画风和汉化的原因没入手。最近也很荣幸有了测评的机会，随即游玩了一下。先解释一下为什么时长只有1小时，妈的，steam离线时长不计入...游戏时长大概在14~18小时左右
正如我前面所说，我没玩过寒蝉和海猫，观点只代表我个人。本作是一部拥有着庞大世界观的游戏，开局游戏就用了整整数个小时的时间来向各位玩家展示出一个极为割裂极为腐朽的未来世界。
游戏涉及到很多zz方面的观点，有点像玩家灌输自己观点的意思，这点我个人不是很喜欢。但游戏中所展现出来的这个世界，让我真的很窒息。从长达半个小时的序章就可见一斑，上面的人压根不管底层士兵的死后，为了拍一部宣传片，甚至都死了不少人，而拍宣传片的原因更是扯淡，他们就是为了像吸引更多的热血青年进来当炮灰...
无人机战争、ai、地缘政治、反乌托邦....游戏里的要素也异常的多，当前面所积攒的矛盾在爆发的那一刻，个人内心受到的震撼无以言表，太神了。
小人物为了和平努力拼搏奋斗，都抵不过大人物口头上的一句话。游戏里面涉及到的各种名词也很多，作为啃着繁中的我，久违的感受到了一丝难受。
艹，为什么没有简中补丁啊....
这也是阻拦我玩海猫和寒蝉的原因之一。
另外再说一个缺点，本作里面出场的角色实在是太多了，打完了真正有印象的人物都没几个，更多的就是在一轮又一轮的人物出现中被刷下去。十多个小时要讲清楚几十个角色，妈的，根本不可能的事儿。
不过有些角色我还是蛮喜欢的，说的就是你，米涅尔瓦！！！
游戏里的BGM也是相当的应景，和这个荒诞的世界组合在一起更加荒诞。
我既沉迷于这个反乌托邦陷阱，又害怕Phase 2会带来更绝望的真相。

No Cicadas cry here. Most of the Gauntlet Knights dialogue seemed to mainly exist as a blog post for Ryuukishi07 philosophical musings. If 80% of the Gauntlet Knights dialogue was cut out and replaced with the data fragments and the go to Mars with blue Gayden ending edited out, this could have gone from good story to masterpiece. Phase 1 was enough for me, I don't need the other three.

This is a pretty introductory chapter with a lot of infodump and new characters which may feel a bit overwhelming. But once you get the basics of the worldbuilding it becomes a pretty interesting story that conveys deep messages.
There's a clear lack of character development but it's understandable since there's so many of them and the writter wanted to focus more on worldbuilding and moving the plot forward. In this novel the pacing was way better structured than Umineko and Higurashi and I appreciate it.

But I would still 100% recommend everyone to read this. Definitely my favorite first chapter of a When They Cry game, and something that is extremely relevant to the current age.
If nothing else, you owe it to yourself to read this specifically because of where the world is headed

One of the most important stories of this moment Ryukishi like with Umineko even with just phase 1 delivers a story so important to our human existence that made me fall in love with this story and characters just as much as the previous installments. Do yourself a favor and read phase 1 its worth it even standalone and join us on the excruciating wait for phase 2.

In my opinion, if you're a fan of Higurashi and/or Umineko and you want more, this is worth reading, even if Phase 2 never ever comes out. The story that exists to this point deserves to be read. And the character work, as to be expected from Ryukishi, is fantastic. Everybody has their own quirks and are all very lovable, with hidden depths. And hey, showing your interest in the continuation of the story definitely couldn't hurt. That said, if you're the kind of person who just CAN'T STAND an unfinished story, maybe best to hold on to your money for now.

With the current context of the other 3 quarters of this story still being in production (limbo) it's probably the strongest start to a mainline wtc story so far, and given how well onikakushi and legend of the golden witch are regarded as standalone experiences and also works to come back to and enjoy with greater insight into the narratives i think it speaks for itself how mind blowing this phase is.
Phase 1 is roughly the length of 2 chapters compared to the rest of the series, and it needs that length to introduce an insane variety of characters that are either obviously waiting eagerly to be expanded upon by ryukishi in later phases, or who already have layered and super thoughtful character depth in general or sometimes through a tiny amount of lines steeped in subtext and interpretive diversity. It was such a joy being immersed in this insanely unique take on sci-fi filled with layers of technocratic conspiracy and mystery, there is enough detail in each line of dialogue from plenty of characters that offer even umineko-rivaling level depth if you're willing to even simply dip the tip of your toes into unravelling the unseen gamemaster's impossibly large worldwide geopolitical cat box, this is obviously going to be somehow even more worthwhile of an experience given time (1000000010030 years) for ryukishi to escape the Konami dungeon, but please dont let some randomreviews deter you from reading this. Even this first phase stands on its own as a final Perfection Awesome Style ribbon tying together all of higurashi and umineko's social and political thematic weight that has been built up for decades over this impossibly good series' runtime.
Worldbuilding was definitely the main focus here though. The ending leaves plenty of consipracies, character details and motivations vague and has let them fester for 6 years at this point yes, but the ending is also conclusive to the experience as a whole before that and (in my opinion) relies less on the classic wtc 1st chapter bombshell twist/cliffhanger writing that it's so famous for. You can view that as a plus or a minus, but all ranting aside this is a perfect experience already.
If you have read umineko and higurashi, there is no reason to not read this right now. Please!!!!!!!!!!!! This rant is more vague than id prefer but some moments in this novel are so shocking i wouldnt even dare make any tiny reference towards any of them.
This novel is so enjoyable you could even call it a [i] factory [/i] of dopamine...

由07th Expansion开发、MangaGamer代理发行的《白鹳鸣泣之时》（[i]Ciconia When They Cry[/i]）是“鸣泣之时”系列的第三部作品，由龙骑士07执笔。它继承了“鸣泣之时”系列一贯的悬疑基因，将故事的舞台从充满民俗气息的村落和与世隔绝的岛屿搬向核战争后的赛博废墟。
仅从世界观角度来说，龙骑士07这次是真的想讲述一个宏大的故事：本作的世界观充满了浓厚的政治色彩，设定在第三次世界大战结束百年后的未来，人类依靠生物机械装置“手甲”重建文明秩序，但这项技术仅能被自幼接受神经改造的15万少年少女驾驭，世界权力因此被重构为五大阵营：AOU环北冰洋联合、COU环中央洋联合、ABN欧洲中东联合、ACR非洲联合王国以及掌控大量稀少灵素资源灵田的LATO拉丁美洲大陆条约机构。如果是你，仅仅看到这些国家或组织的名字就应该已经感到魔幻了。
除此以外，游戏中还涉及了大量现实中存在的政治名词的变形：AOU自诩“世界警察”，注重“人权”，介入他国内部问题；COU维持了不变的价值观和继承了悠久的传统，却被认为是深陷○○；ABN作为○○国家联合群，以戒律压制○○自由——这些设定是否与现实中的国际政治博弈有着微妙的联系呢？然而本作又通过基因优生、工厂化生育管理等科幻元素与真实的世界拉开距离。这么多的世界观背景，作为玩家，如何才能短时间记得住？笔者游玩视觉小说时特别喜欢在进入游戏后点击鼠标右键，当当当当！立刻出现了一堆人物、国家/组织的信息，没错，游戏提供了资料库帮助读者快速了解本作世界观——太多了真会忘记啊喂。不过说到了本作的人物，由于是《白鹳》的第一章节，铺陈大量世界观倒也合理，但不可避免地涌现大量新面孔——本作人物数量就有三十个左右，再配合那本就复杂的世界观，使笔者这类记名困难者彻底迷失在阵营缩写与人设标签海中，常常要翻看角色档案才能理清，这种迷失不单单就是因为人物数量繁多而产生的。本作主人公御岳都雄自己就有三重人格。
剧情方面，由于《白鹳》仅仅公开了Phase 1部分，其后续的走向不得而知。从目前已知的故事来看，在主角团或者说人类社会的顶上，还有“三王”这样的“神”的存在，试图灭绝人类。在他们的暗中操作下，世界将会变成杀戮的地狱，这样的预言却是主人公御岳都雄的副人格给出的。在国际和平军旗祭典中，来自各国的少年手甲骑士们相互切磋，试图以友谊捍卫和平，阻止第四次世界大战。然而现实中他们却是“神”巨大沙盘上的棋子。“棋子的工作就是在惨剧漩涡中起舞”圣诞之夜，亲友们互相虐杀……
可以说，整个《白鹳鸣泣之时》，就是一盘属于神的棋局。笔者对故事的剧情仍有疑问：手甲技术（Gauntlet）从何而来？主人公父亲藤治郎的下一步计划是什么？主角团的内鬼是谁？……所有一切的疑问，还是静静等待Phase 2的到来吧。此外，作为故事的第一章节，本作剧情在节奏上呈现明显的割裂：笔者在游玩的前两小时里，不断遇到大量技术名词解释与新闻播报式背景，这些解释和背景铺陈，未给予笔者足够的情感锚点，让笔者感到无尽的疲惫，导致推进缓慢。不过，在章节末尾，当钟声敲响，圣诞雪夜聚会一下子就把所有的铺陈全部拉开，瞬间升到了本作的最高潮，所有的矛盾一并爆发。
画风上不必多说，没错是龙绘，这是龙骑士07个人的独特画风，依然是系列标志的包子脸包子手。龙绘放在二十年代的今天或许早已过时，一些新人可能难以接受吧，但如果你是老粉丝、老玩家，一定会立刻被深深吸引。龙绘的表情真是一绝，刻画得细致入微，能让玩家真切感受此时人物的心境。不时出现的凸脐蛙才是本体吧呵呵。笔者倒是对本作的部分音乐感兴趣，手甲启动的机械轰鸣，复现了未来战争的残酷，颇有科幻之感，仿佛置身于A3W的未来洪流；当然除了硬核的一些音效，也有一些悠长的旋律，但从整体来看，这些悠静的旋律或许就预示着暴风雨前的宁静吧，颇有忧伤之感了……当片尾曲《utopia/烏托邦》响起，所有的疑问，化为寂静，绵绵悠长……
总之，《白鹳鸣泣之时》依然继承了系列传统的悬疑色彩，既封存着《寒蝉》用友情击碎命运轮回的元素，也孕育着向科幻神话跃迁的因子。战争成为“神”的棋局，人类意识沦为数据变量，作为人的我们该如何抉择？ Phase1仅仅只是序章，虽然铺陈过多，但最后的高潮还算弥补缺憾，当然疑问还有许多……正如所有伟大而未完成的故事，它的价值不在给出的答案，而在提出的诘问。

《Ciconia When They Cry - Phase 1: For You, the Replaceable Ones》（日语：キコニアのなく頃に，中文：白鹳鸣泣之时）是由07th Expansion制作并于2019年10月4日发售的一部视觉小说作品。也是龙骑士07继《寒蝉鸣泣之时》《海猫鸣泣之时》后该系列的第三部作品。按照原本的构想，《白鹳鸣泣之时》系列一共分为四个阶段，第二阶段原本计划在2020年5月发布，但是由于新冠疫情和2022年的俄乌战争原因，第二阶段的作品被无限期的搁置了。龙骑士07给出的理由是：“现实世界中战争不断，我不愿意把战争当成娱乐来谈”以及“如果现在写，这部作品中的一些社会主题不会引起太大的共鸣” 。原本对于第二阶段的故事龙骑士07给出了两个设想：从第一阶段的对立势力角度讲述故事，或者是延续第一阶段的故事内容续写。

《白鹳鸣泣之时》的故事是一个关于人们试图阻止第四次世界大战爆发的后世界末日的故事，背景设定在了第三次世界大战结束后的100年，一个科技更加发达的世界。人类利用一种名为“8MS”的纳米技术通过改变地球的的环境，将第三次世界大战带来的核辐射危机解除，地球的人口再次达到了战前的水平。随后诞生的全新超军事技术，“手甲”。通过将其装备在左臂上的人们被称作手甲骑士，他们得到了凭借肉身在空中像战斗机一样飞翔，像航母及战舰那样战斗，并且如战车一般能够反弹任何攻击的无敌力量。全世界的孩子们，都迷上了这些全新原本特摄中才出现的的超级英雄。但是如果没有从幼儿期开始的特殊训练以及才能，就无法操纵它，因此适合者在全世界算上学龄前儿童也还不到15万人。而实际上够格被称作手甲骑士的人就更少了。总而言之，“手甲骑士”的数量变成了衡量一个国家军事实力的标准，故事便是围绕在这些“手甲骑士”中展开。

[h3] 世界局势 [/h3]
国际关系即使放到现实世界也是一个很敏感的话题，龙7想必也是花了很多心思在这部作品中构筑一个国际关系，并且也尝试用政治来构造“棋盘”，尤其是在把LATO作为其它地缘势力的中介者和调停者这一点上确实体现出少许巧妙之处，当然它不一定会作为被主要描写的势力。随着剧情的发展，一方面不同势力之间的关系随着各方上层的紧张对峙和钢臂骑士之间的友好盟誓而摇摆，另一方面作为各势力代表的王牌骑士们自己的价值观也在遵守和违反己方的军事信条之间保持微妙的平衡，直到最后被无人机惨案和圣诞之战产生全面冲突而打破，虽然它显然和三四以及她所在的研究所有关。另一方面值得一提的是作为第三次世界大战战争遗址的玻璃海，与被划分为两部分到AOU和COU的日本。不知道龙7是否尝试用本作品的某些内容进行现实还原和部分影射。显然国际关系不能简单的用地缘划分以及各势力高层的指令也比较片面，当前国际关系更像是一场博弈，不能仅从个人的角度来进行总结。
[h3] 环保 [/h3]
环保作为一种长久以来的“正确的”观念在现在时代可能和以前有了很大偏差。当我们进行自我约束，为了保护环境而减少个人的破坏行为时，它受到赞扬；但是当国际社会和条款公约把它作为一些律法和共识时，它反而成为了一种博弈中的如意算盘和政治手段。在本作里，龙7则用另一种方式回避了这种“环保”陷阱。全世界的8MS系统失灵，全球环境急剧恶化—温度骤降，雾霾笼罩，与此同时是饥荒和不知道哪来的L5病毒，相关的直接后果之一则是多达35亿人死亡的无人机惨案（8MS系统失灵是人为造成暂且不考虑）。值得反思的是，我们的“环保”究竟是是为了保护自己，还是保护地球？
[h3] 棋局比喻 [/h3]
“棋盘”首先让人想到了《海猫鸣泣之时》，整个系列几乎完全建立在了西洋棋的棋盘之上。而本作中与《寒蝉》和《海猫》完全不同，是一部正统的SF作品，龙7花费了大量的功夫在阶段一中搭建这个以政治军事为背景的“棋盘”。“棋子”就是作为军事实力象征的“手甲骑士”，而“棋手”就是各种势力的高层。
[h3] 白鹳 [/h3]
白鹳作为标题意象，在文本中的出现次数并不多，但是它一边在陈述背景的同时，也直接关联到本作的发展方向——显然会和“自然”产生很密切的联系。在都雄和杰登所在的AOU，人工生命已经成为了主要的生育方式，并且本作里也有一小段对“工厂生命”产生过程的叙述，而都雄却作为白鹳之子，是自然生育的。我们对”白鹳“这个主题的期待，显然会建立在如何平衡人与自然这样一个经常被认为很空洞的话题的讨论上。
[h3] 青少年与成年人的对立 [/h3]
本作里的青少年从一开始就是以“反抗”成年人的立场而站定的。作为拥有强大信息处理能力的新生代，他们的社交媒介“绊/kizuna”，只有能使用P3能力的人才能使用，而主动与无法平行处理大量信息的成年人划清界限。除此之外，全文中有大量的对于“青少年作为棋子，中年人作为棋手”，这样一种一看就很不公平的两方对立的描写，而且有一部分是作为直接的冲突而推动剧情发展，一直到最后圣诞之战当天，在各势力高层指挥官的监视之下，随着虚拟空间中象征友爱的圣歌歌声与现实中飞弹炮火声的相互交织戛然而止。
但同时还有另一组对比，那就是本作主角御岳都雄和他父亲御岳藤治郎，尤其是藤治郎在ciconia世界作为WTC世界轮回者的富竹次郎的另一身份。从文本来看，都雄对藤治郎的态度说不上好，但是在几个重大事件发生之时还是选择了向他求助，尤其是都雄自己设立的骑士盟誓—是为了反抗成年人，但在某种程度上是在模仿藤治郎。与此相对的，藤治郎自己作为一个有广大的势力网的暗线主角之一，至少在阶段一来看对都雄是利用状态。
青少年如何才能成为时代的主角？这样一种转变很讽刺，那就是当无人机惨案过去之后，各势力军方开始禁止使用战争无人机——可能是为数不多的能和钢臂骑士对抗的军事武器。青少年终于成为了主角，但他们作为的实际上是棋盘上的主角—依然需要听从指挥官的命令的棋子。
[h3] 圣诞之战 [/h3]
圣诞作为终末的标志，主要体现在三个角度上：一是作为第三次世界大战之后最后普世（ecumenical）的流行文化节日，二是作为喵酱和杰登的约会日期，三是作为所有势力正式停火而转为解决世界性难题的最后期限。圣诞之战作为阶段一的结局绝对是成功的。
[h2] 总结 [/h2]
比起《寒蝉》和《海猫》我们能看到龙7展露出更大野心，仅仅是阶段一的世界观塑造和群像视角就让人眼花缭乱，但一轮棋盘下来，抛开有些冗杂的键政内容不谈，主线剧情出乎意料地精彩，而荒诞又悲壮的结尾配上神BGM足以成为你玩这部作品的理由，我相信如果《白鹳》能够写完，无法想象是否会超越《海猫》。

Having finished this, even without news of Phase 2 coming any time soon, I can fully recommend this as its own thing. From having characters turn directly to the camera and speaking the effects of the older generation on the younger one to discussions of the nuance in the difference between gender and sex, to having a fun Christmas carol ending scene, it's got what you're looking for. Maybe. Give it a shot!

It's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good and has the potential to be the best WTC so far (Hell I already like phase 1 more than Higurashi and Umineko's first chapter/episode), but I genuinely believe we won't be getting the next phase for a long time, if at all. I would still recommend checking this out since this is far and ahead some of Ryukishi's best writing and also his best paced story yet (Which is a HUGE deal if you've read his stories before lmao). It's just such a shame that there's a really good chance this story never gets continued, we can only hope and believe in a miracle.
