Great little turn-based combat game. Good story, good voice acting, combat is clean and crisp. The unique combat mechanic is good as well. Well worth the price. 30hrs to complete the story on normal difficulty.

wow its hot garbage , every enemy is a bullet sponge on top of that not enough ammo so you have to use melee most of the time . Enemy are stronger than your whole team and enemy waves are endless , would not reccommend this game to anyone its more of a challenge, i have to use mods in order to beat this game something i rarely do, combat is boring and very repetive, no variety of weapons and a contant struggle.

I don't not-recommend games often, but when I do, there's enough that I need to get off my chest about, and sadly Chains of Freedom really grinded my gears.

I finished the game on hard on my first playthrough since I am a fan of Turn Based Stratagy games. However, I personally didn't enjoy my time. No disrespect to the dev team. They made a game that ran fine and I am sure they're proud of their work, but there were where many very frustrating things that really bothered me, which may have some light spoilers.

It was about a quarter through the game did I realise the rest of it would be more of the same frustrating gameplay.

The game is a tactical turn based game similar to XCOM, however don't go in expecting high customizability, it's fairly ridgid in it's design.

Character's do not level up, you just get Biocrystals to put into slots that can augment their gameplay, such as give you more crit rate, increase your AP (Action Points, used for moving, attacking, using items), etc. Characters start out with one Biocrystal slot and you can interact with a...shrine of sorts to gain 2 slots to distribute across your characters (See my frustrating issues later)

You can equip them with weapons that get a little better from beginning to the end of the campaign, but there are very few weapons and ammo is very limited (at least on hard)

Here's some of the things that really frustrated me:

1) At around 25% and 75% of the campaign, you will loose a character during unavoidable points in the story. If you invested any Biocrystal slots into them, you loose that investment. You won't know this going in blind, but it REALLY sucks. The developers pushed an update afterward which after you loose your first character at around the 25% mark, you gain 3 Biocrystals per shrine instead of 2, but this doesn't take the sting out of investing.

2) Melee really isn't worth it. Anything you want to do short range, stick to shotguns because the amount of enemies they can throw at you for the ammo you have is pretty nuts (at least on hard)

3) While exploring, you can run into combat areas, these combat areas can range from: You having a chance to sneak around and position your characters in optional fights or unavoidable / inescapable battles. The sneaking mechanics is very basic. Stay out of vision cones of patroling enemies and sneak slowly to get your characters to "advantagous" positions.

The character you are actively controlling is the only one who can be spotted by patrolling enemies so if you have party members following you, they won't be seen. However, if you "unlink" them, you will have to position them independantly, however they can also be spotted. When you're all in position, you manually can activate combat mode.

This sneaking "ambush" mode feels kind of pointless, if you get spotted while sneaking you enter combat with your current position and the enemies go first and absolutely punish you, likely leading to a save scum. If you don't get spotted, then your team goes first, but it doesn't really feel like you get that much of an advantage because the enemies begin to get a lot of health and armour. You don't get some kind of stealth attack bonus to ignore amour or evasion. Even though you "ambush" them, they can still enter cover. Flanking only gives you the benifit of shooting a target out of cover, but you don't get increased accuracy or crit rate.

In scenarios where enemy reinforcements are coming, you get a heads up that additional enemies are coming, but you do not know where from. So you once again have to try to play the battle, get screwed by them spawning right up your butt, then save scum to try again with meta knowledge. It's stuff like this that make the game feel like it's less about your skill and more about memory and a bit of luck.

4) Most combat areas devolve into either kill all the enemies or survive X number of waves and some of these combat areas can be pretty small. If enemy reinforcements are on their way, sometimes they spawn all around you, thus making your positioning feel like you don't really have any options. Some combat encounters, your party are pre-placed, which can often be sub optimal. Like if the enemies spawn ahead of you, but your short range character is at the back of your party even if you were directly controling them as the party leader.

5) Characters also cannot walk through each other and have semi-large restricted area around them, leading to awkward blockages. Like if you want one guy to take a ladder or narrow passage that looks clear, but you have a teammates that's semi close to it, too bad, you have to untagle that mess.

6) Enemy animations can be really slow and you cannot skip them. They move all at once first, then they attack your team if they're in range. This makes builds like "Counter attack with a melee attack if enemies melee your character" limiting since you can't chain kill a bunch of weak zombies trying to hit your high evasion tank character.

7) There is no mini map when exploring the maps, it can be easy to get lost.

8) You cannot use some items out of combat, like healing grenades or grapling hooks. This can be important if you want to top off your parties health before the next fight and have healing grenades you want to use or trying to reach an item that can only be reached by a grappling hook, which again, can only be used in combat. If you didn't pick up that item during combat, you're out of luck.

9) You cannot save during combat. This should go without saying that commiting some time to a combat, only to be inturrupted by real life, and unable to save and continue later on is insufferable.

10) As mentioned, ammo is very limited and you cannot buy more for your favorite weapons. You can craft some more using scavenged materials that you find out the the world, but you can only craft the basic stuff. This basically encourages you to only shoot when you have really high accuracy, or dump extra AP into increasing your accuracy, which sucks because that may cut you off from possibly attacking twice. For the heavy ammo, you need to save it to use on big boss fights to make it worth while.

Anyways, that's all I have to vent about. I'm just so relieved that it is finally done and won't be playing it again

В целом если разработчик продолжит делать этот жанр, то у них все получится. Игра неплохая для малоизвестной студии и первой попытки сделать пошаговую игру. Однако, покупать за полную стоимость не рекомендую, разве что есть желание поддержать разработчика/издателя. Рекомендую покупать только во время распродаж.
Сама игра проходится довольно быстро
- из очевидных плюсов:
Прикольные анимации, вполне неплохие механики прокачки и билдостроения. Атмосфера. Лор тоже понятный и неплохой.
- ну а из очевидных минусов, которые легко исправить:
Мне откровенно не хватало кнопки в настройках игры (скорость анимации). Я бы дал игроку возможность ускорить x2...x4 раза анимации, если не в походном режиме, то хотя бы в бою.
Так же крафтить предметы поштучно это бред. Почему нельзя сразу скрафтить 10 бинтов, если хватает ресурсов?!

It's okay. This game doesn't reinvent the wheel. There is no ground breaking story or revolutionary combat. It's just a serviceable game. Not great. Not bad. Just ok. The game is extremely linear. Resources are scarce. Nothing to upgrade. Very few weapon selections and especially towards the end, they completely bombard you with bullet sponge enemies who can regenerate.

Admittedly I didn't beat this game. I cannot beat the last boss. I have zero ammo. I have no crafting materials, and there's about 100 aliens who can regenerate and respawn additional enemies until you kill them. I salvaged everything, looted every corner, and still have no materials. It's frustrating but it was an ok experience. I'm not mad I bought it. It was a good time, just nothing great.

Сбалансированная приключенческая тактика на стыке Xcom и MutantYearZero+Miazma.
Тактические бои в нон-стоп приключении без питстопов и с прямолинейной прокачкой.
Нужно самому собирать на ходу билды, решать несложные пазлы и менеджерить расходники с патронами.

Поскольку вся игра представляет из себя одну длинную катку - вас ждёт примерно 10-15 часов достаточно интенсивного тактического контента.
И очень повезло, что он тут качественный, в отличие от многих подобных игр последних лет.
Ничего лишнего, только сюжетка, бои и эксплоринг.

Большим плюсом игры является крутой билдинг персонажей, где можно собрать как симбиотическую пачку, так и стеклянную пушку с саппортами. Пати штурмовиков или снайперов. На ваш вкус и не без сюжетных твистов, которые вас... удивят.

В общем для любителей тактик однозначный рек, хорошие бюджетные 8-9/10

This game suffers from the same sickness as others of it's kind , it looks nice on paper but when you go into it, it's shallow , unbalanced , sometimes borderline stupid , the AI is barely capbable , there is a a complete separation between battles and movement outside battles (like two different games) , issues with accuracy (getting hit behind cover while completly missing someone in the open ... )
The lack of a mini map or indicators makes it very hard to do the tedious tasks like pickup battery or find circut wires , you end up running around all over the place to find items , going over the same areas over and over to make sure you didn't miss anything , this is just bad game design
I do love the ragdools in battles though

Overall a mediocre game , buy it at discount if you want , not at full price

Catch it on sale. I'm a fan of Turn based tactics, combat, and strategy games. Loved Battle Brothers, Xcom, Marvel Midnight suns. This looked like it could scratch that itch and it did. Not as complicated as those other games and I feel like the RNG isn't going to screw you a lot. Game does just through you into it. No real explanation of things but you can figure it out. Really linear game, but rewards you for exploring the little you can do. Overall positive experience. Story was ok. Wanted to finish the game and did and wasn't disappointed but again get it on sale. They have this system with crystals and buffs and can get some pretty powerful combos which was fun to test and try. Again I recommend it.

Solid game that does everything competently for a game in this sub genre, but understandably never hits the heights such as Mutant Year Zero or Miasma Chronicles. Definitely worth it on sale. Played on the hardest difficulty.

Pros:
- Solid visuals & Sound
- Good sense of resource management. Being careful with what weapons/ammo to use at the right time.
- Use of Biocrystals allows to really build a character around their strengths. Building a sniper unit with critical hits and afflicted status effect is really satisfying.
- Clean and easy UI

Cons
- Awful story and bad voice acting. Towards the end I was skipping the dialogue.
- Huge lack of available cover especially for a game where cover is important (wtf were the devs thinking here). I would often have a character with enough AP to get to cover, with no cover around leaving them stranded and open to hits.
- The amount of times I had around 65% hit chance and missed. Honestly it was around 3 : 1 miss to hit. Ridiculous.
- Some awful level design moments that just frustrated. Towards the end especially, there was an enemy where they respawn infinitely unless you kill it. Only one character can reach it with their ability, but there was hardly ever enough AP to do enough damage even with afflicted status effect on the enemy. Had to do this stage multiple times.
- Stealth is incredibly bad. The game simply doesn't provide the player with enough information with the field of vision of the enemy. Most stages of stealth never provides a good opportunity to take advantage. Compare this to Miasma for example where it is very clear with where you can sneak and where the danger zones are.
-Not being able to position units at the start of battle (where stealth isn't an option)

Overall decent. I think the team has promise. If they develop a game similar to this, hopefully they improve on the issues listed. 7/10

El juego está bastante bien.
1.- Modo exploración: investigas la zona, consigues objetos/armas/biocristales(lo que viene siento los "talentos" de los personajes). No puedes hacer mucho, simplemente te mueves de un lado al otro mientras vas avanzando en la historia.
2.- Modo combate: Típico combate XCOM, basado en turnos, con coberturas, % crit, % acierto. En el cual puedes usar: arma primaria, arma secundaria, 4 objetos equipados y las habilidades.

Mi experiencia, está bastante bien el combate, la exploración es bastante MEH, la historia sí está bien, mi duración de la historia ha sido de 24 horas, dificultad normal, investigando todo lo que se podía y sin saltarme nada.
Para jugarlo una vez está bien, rejugable... dudoso, pero cada persona es un mundo.

Macht Spaß, ist unterhaltend für eine Kampagne, hat halt nur kaum wiederspielwert dannach.

Ressourcenmanagement ist nur am Anfang knapp (viel Nahkampf hilft Muni zu sparen)
Eigentlich hat man alles im Überschuss außer 9mm Munition xD
Die Bosse sind leider zu einfach.
Aber dafür macht das rumspielen mit den Gems sehr viel Spaß um verschiedene Builds zu bauen.

Spoiler:

Leider verliert man im verlauf 2 Chars in die man vorher investiert hat, was etwas nervig sein kann. Die Slots für die Bio-Kristalle jedoch bekommt man später wieder.

Fun game and great concept, That being said they dropped the ball big time and made big mistake for no reason other than looking over something so simple that cost so much of the players time. Without spoiling the story, They decide to punish you for not knowing the story before hand when it could have been transferred or refunded but instead just make you wonder why you bothered fighting and spending time upgrading for nothing.... The lack of options and not being able to key-bind is annoying but it was tolerable, however stacking that with the decision of not taking a players time and effort is not something I recommend to other gamers.

Весьма приятная тактика. Отмечу хорошее оформление, гармоничный эмбиент саундтрек, удобный левел-дизайн, неплохую вариативность по оружию и расходникам в бою.
Из минусов - абсолютно линейная по сюжету история (как и заранее читаемая) и местами наличие ненужных однообразных боев чисто для галочки.
Но в целом, играется легко и приятно. Мне понравилось.
Миссия с крушением поезда - топ!

Its okay to scratch that XCOM itch, but my god, the battles are soooo tedious. Most enemies are just bullet sponges and you dont really have any quick way of disposing of them (except maybe heavy weapons, but you migt really need them later). Oh, and then there are extra waves of enemies or commanders that call in reinforcements for free. Ugh. At first I was curious about the plot and the vibe of scavenging ad surviving in some godforsaken third world rural areas but it is just excruciatingly slow paced.

Overall it's a pretty good game, had some fun. Don't listen to ppl saying that there is not enough supplies, cause 1 pretty sure it's a skill issue, and 2 the game tells you, from the beggining, to conserve ammo, which means if you see an enemy that has 5hp. you don't shoot 20 bullets into it, or throw a grenade at it.
There is enough supplies to the point I never ran out, on the highest difficulty, and I got all the special crystals, so the exploring is not some zelda lvl korok seed loot searching.
Though I have to say that the game has a pretty big problem with just spamming enemies that are purely annoying, such as one-shotting worms that will kill you the second they get close, on a map that is 10mx10m, or an enemy that will make copies of himself every second time you hit him AND teleports after every hit. It's not anything unmanagable, it's just annoying as hell. When I saw the worms on almost every fight at the end of the game I was like "Release me from this worm hell please".
There is a good mechanic of building a character class by yourself. with special crystals, and they all work with each other pretty nicely, to the point where some of your characters can take even 10 shots in one turn if you build everything right, at the end of the game.
There is also a big emphasis on the plot, though it's not really that special cause [spoiler] there is a finite number of times you get betrayed/manipulated and it surprises you [/spoiler], but it's alright, the world is quite interesting, the graphics are "not great not terrible".
Overall a nice experience, get it on a discount

the game itself works good no crashes no real bugs only the defeated enemy bodys sometimes float around but thats fine.
my problem is the gameplay itself u have a team of 3 then 4 but they throw like 8 enemys at you. on normal u push through but on hard its near impossible the moment they rush you. either make the cost of weapons less or give the enemys less hp but if they come with 100-200 hp later the eden even with 250-400 +armor and you make 25-45dmg it only comes to luck if u hit crits if not bye bye. the saves are stupid make it like every other turn based game that u can save midfight and if u want to play ironman mode do it, i dont, but it gets nervwrecking u beat them to the last guy and of course the last guy knocks down ur guy with 70hp cause he crits and then he has the means to kill the downed guy. what happens game over start the whole fight anew again 15-20 minutes wasted because of rng.
Story is fine so far i allready had a hunch of what svetlov says because of the answers the soldiers gave it felt automated and indoctrinated so i liked that stuff u just dont really explain the thing with prima i know it will maybe come later but i still know nothing and she only says its private but want me to trust her doesnt make sense in real world terms one or two things felt a bit rushed after the train and at least u should give the team the possibilty to recruit 1-2 noname npc to help they want to halp the doctors cause so it makes no sense to loose all of them in one swoop.
after 7 hours im exhausted to try and error some of the levels and loose 15 min for something stupid

Gra nie jest zbyt długa, ale fajna. Najbardziej mi się podoba, że z przebiegiem historii coraz to nowsze lepsze bronie się znajduje. Nie nudzi, a bym powiedział że wciąga czym dłużej się gra. Cena gierki gdy jest na promocji też ok. Nie zauważyłem błędów, polskie napisy w porządku. Szukam, szukam i nie potrafię się do czegoś przyczepić. Polecam !
