Ah yes! The most poetic and complicated love hate relationship I have in my steam library, Been a fan of DMS Men of war games since Faces of war, always something new, upgraded engine and features that are really cool, Devs however spent way too long focusing on sideshow fronts and factions and to cater the game towards softcore tactical E sporters and streamers. Devs make absolutely stunning maps but fail completely in campaign side of things with the unit rosters you pick, that are just nonsensical, no medium or heavy artillery unless you forgo any armor and vice versa , granted most is possible to be fixed with mods it has just become so tiresome that the community basically has to finish the games these days with mods

Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront is one of the most immersive WWII RTS experiences out there. The level of detail is incredible, from individual soldier control to realistic ballistics and destructible environments. Every battle feels intense and tactical, rewarding patience, positioning, and smart decision-making.

The dynamic campaign adds a lot of replayability, and the ability to directly control units brings a unique layer of depth you don’t see in many RTS games.

It’s definitely not the most beginner-friendly and has a bit of a learning curve, but if you’re willing to put the time in, it’s an incredibly rewarding experience.

Even if you technically can play this game it might not run. I have had countless friends not be able to play this game with 16 gbs of ram avalible and they crash whenever get into a match even on the lowest graphics. This game needs to be optimized. IF HELLDIVERS CAN GET DOWN TO 20GB FROM 120GB THIS GAME CAN BE OPTIMIZED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tip: You can repair disabled enemy vehicles and use them in combat. In the dynamic campaign mode it even lets you keep them for later missions :D

You see, I am really on the fence about this title. On one hand, historical accuracy and nerd content, cool models of everything, ballistics, penetration values, first-person view in RTS-game is cool as hell, true DEEP DYNAMIC CAMPAIGN FOR ANY FACTION etc.

BUT. The direct control is the curse and the bless of this game simultaneously. AI in this game is notoriously bad at pathfinding, pretty much close to the first installation, Call to Arms, just a bit less dramatic. You can easily lose the whole convoy of vehicles which should've been running on designated via SHIFT key waypoints just because they dont give a ♥♥♥♥ about your waypoints, they have business of their own to attend.

Your vehicles and mortars accuracy is nerfed into the ground until you will possess this vehicle with your godlike essence and guide their weapons to the enemy's weakpoints. You can't really play this as a Blitzkrieg / Sudden Strike game, there is no really a choice between using and not using first-person view, it is a MUST. You can literally become one-man army with this feature or watch at your helpless tanks missing 75% of their shots.

And don't even get me started on the infantry, it is just pain in the arse. They literally break their formation on the first possibility, they can change stance randomly, meeting artillery shells and MG fire with their brave but stupid broad chests. They can't even keep formation upon pressing attack movement, they just gather all at the pointing of your cursor lmao. Anyway, maybe that's a skill issue, but infantry management is clunky and requires an absurd APM. Also, they don't run from grenades automatically, they just stoically devour them and accept their martyrdom, no autonomy whatsoever.

Anyway, if you accept this clunkiness, ready for intensive micromanagement and a lot of direct control, if you're a vet of Man of War series or just historical nerd - you will feel literally at home. If you expect this to play as modern Blitzkrieg but with cool graphics and true to history parameters - well, no such luck, it is entirely different game and it should be treated as such.

Also, I must say I played with FoW on. I know that many people turn it off, making this game literally a shooting range, but what the point lol. I want strategy, not power fantasy about StuG soloing Battle for Sevastopol.

I can't really leave a negative review in good faith, cause it was really my expectations problem mostly, but I am disappointed. This game is simultaneously brilliant and outrageous. Definitely worth to try out, but not everyone will bear to stay with it long enough to truly enjoy Gates of Hell at its fullest.

Uma evolução incrível ao Men of War: Assault Squad 2 e ao próprio Call to Arms. A IA continua um pouco duvidosa, mas ainda sim é um jogo extremamente divertido e desafiador como qualquer outro jogo da franquia. O jogo base contem apenas duas facções, URSS e Alemanha. Porém há DLCs com os EUA, Reino Unido e Finlândia e todas são de qualidades extremamente altas, a variação de veículos, equipamentos, armas e uniformes do jogo base e das DLCs são incríveis. Os efeitos visuais e sonoros são muito bem feitos, os gráficos são bem bonitos mesmo pra uma engine já antiga, os caras fizeram milagre com esse jogo. O jogo ainda recebe atualizações adicionando mais qualidade de vida pro jogo e também ainda recebe DLCs.

The game is awesome fun to play, but still it got a lot of bugs. Many times it happens, my units send in konvojs collide, destroying themselves. Its really annoying. In direct control mode when i zoom in, terrains cover the view. I hope these problems will be fixed in the future.

BOT de con et en plus on vous prend pour des pigeons avec un jeu qui est beaucoup trop chers pour ce que c'est et en plus ils vous chient encore plus a la gueule en vous proposant des DLC qui coutent le meme prix que le jeu... Juste pour au final avoir le jeu complet car ils ont pas été fichu d'avoir assez de moyen financier pour sortir un jeu à la date prévue. Des commandes super réaliste que vous n'utiliserez jamais EXEMPLE : 'jeter son arme' ou encore transferer ou manipuler manuellement des munitions et des ressources... WOW c'est plus une perte de temps qu'autre chose d'essayer de comprendre la tactique utiliser, le pourquoi du comment mais surtout... il ne faut pas réfléchir quand au moyen dédié a la gestion des troupes sur la visée, le trajet, la couverture, la munition et j'en passe. Tout est fait pour vous rendre anxieux face à une multitude d'information et de gestion de COTOREP qui sont à la guerre des champicons. Tout ça pour finalement vous faire rouler dessus par le premier fdp qui a loupé sa marche s'escalier quand il avait 3 mois. Sur ce, eloigner vous de ce jeu fait avec mon kyste au cul et aller jouer à peche moi les noix si tu les trouves c'est beaucoup plus relaxant.

The single player of this game has no right to make this a spiritual successor to the Men of War series. Its some of the worst mission design Ive seen in my entire life. The recent British DLC single player missions are mid at best, I know because I have superior story-driven games to compare to... like Men of War lul. Oh, and the devs are greedy arses because if at least ONE person doesnt own a DLC, then not even the host can start a coop/mp game unless the non-owning player selects a base-game faction. Worse than Paradox. This game is only useful for its editor and multiplayer.

Игра неплохая, из минусов выделил бы только кучу платных DLC и, главную проблему одиночной компании, весьма глупый ИИ. До этого пробовал только во В тылу врага: штурм 2, наиграв 160 часов проходил миссии на максимальной сложности, и после такого опыта бот в этой игре ощущается ну дуже кастрировано. Во В тылу врага бот бесконечно давит тебя подкреплениями, кучей пехоты и бронетехники. Если ты не будешь брать инициативу в свои руки, враг тупо сожрёт тебя, перейдя в контратаку. В этой же игре ИИ очень покорный, если миссия изначально подразумевает, что тебе надо атаковать - бот будет покорно стоять, пока ты расстреливаешь его технику, а подкрепление будет прибывать только по определённым заскриптованным моментам.

Franchement l’un des meilleurs jeux WW2 que j’ai joué ces dernières années !
On sent vraiment le mix parfait entre le côté tactique et nerveux de Company of Heroes, les phases d’infanterie ultra immersives façon Hell Let Loose et ce petit feeling “commando” quand tu contrôles tes squads en micro-gestion serrée.
Les cartes sont magnifiques, la destruction est jouissive, l’ambiance sonore te met direct dans le mood, et quand tu arrives à prendre un point après 20 min de combat ultra tendu… c’est le kiff total.
Clairement sous-coté par rapport à ce qu’il propose. Si vous aimez les RTS avec du réalisme et de l’intensité, foncez les yeux fermés, c’est du très lourd ! »

If you happen to have the tank autism, this game is for you.
The dynamic conquest is a ton of fun and allows challenge to any degree that you wish, also giving you the opportunity to feel progression through a tech tree while also giving you the freedom to choose how you wish to engage your enemies. Being able to directly control units in 3rd person is definitely something that puts this game far above many like it, as it has an element of scale that feels oddly immersive.
There is a bit of a learning curve, especially if you have not played games like this in the past; I advise against the ingame tutorials as they are slightly time consuming and confusing--atleast, for someone as autistic as myself.
This game very easily becomes an addiction. You have been warned.

Titel: Zwischen Genie und Wahnsinn – Die hardwarefressende Hardcore-Front

Wertung: ⭐⭐⭐ (mit viel gutem Willen und einer Packung Kopfschmerztabletten)

Das Gameplay: Wenn die KI schummelt, bis es quietscht
Wer behauptet, RTS-Spiele seien heutzutage zu einfach, hat die Kampagne von Gates of Hell noch nicht gespielt. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad ist nicht nur "fordernd", er ist oft schlichtweg unbarmherzig. Es fühlt sich regelmäßig so an, als hätte die KI einen direkten Draht zu Gott: Mörser treffen beim ersten Schuss punktgenau dein teuerstes Geschütz, und Infanterie wird aus dem tiefsten Gebüsch weggesnipt, noch bevor die Fog-of-War-Grenze überhaupt erreicht ist.

Trotz dieses "Cheater"-Gefühls entfaltet das Spiel eine unglaubliche Sogwirkung. Die Detailverliebtheit, das realistische Schadensmodell und die Momente, in denen ein gut geplanter Flankenangriff doch funktioniert, machen süchtig. Es ist ein ständiger Wechsel zwischen triumphalem Siegesgefühl und dem Drang, die Tastatur zu zerbrechen.

Die Technik: Eine 4090 im Hungerstreik
Hier liegt der größte Hund begraben. Man sollte meinen, dass ein i9 in Kombination mit einer RTX 4090 dieses Spiel zum Frühstück verspeist. Die Realität? Massive FPS-Drops und Stotterer, sobald die Action auf dem Bildschirm zunimmt oder die Karte zu viele Trümmer ansammelt.

Dass das Spiel selbst auf High-End-Systemen ohne Mods so in die Knie geht, deutet auf eine Engine hin, die mit der Menge an Berechnungen (Physik, KI-Pfade, Ballistik) schlicht überfordert ist. Es ist frustrierend zu sehen, wie die Hardware sich langweilt, während die Framerate im einstelligen Bereich herumkriecht.

Fazit
Gates of Hell: Ostfront ist wie eine toxische Beziehung: Es sieht fantastisch aus und bietet Tiefgang, den man woanders vergeblich sucht – aber es misshandelt deine Hardware und strapaziert deine Nerven mit einer fast schon bösartigen KI.

Pro: Enormer Realismus, packende Atmosphäre, taktische Tiefe.

Contra: Katastrophale Optimierung, frustrierend schwere (teils unfaire) KI, technische Instabilität trotz High-End-PC.

This is a really good strategy game. Reminds me of men of war. Same micro management which depends on the playstyle but very deep in real tactics, terrain is important and the game looks very good as well.

The option to play a specific unit in realtime is genious. You can directly influence crucial action. Your units experience will grow so they are more effective.

There are tons of mods at the workshop, so you can adjust if you want. The PvE mode with the dynamic campaign is also genious.

Highly recommended.

原本是战争召唤的DLC后来自己独立出来了一个游戏，但是其实本质上算是战争之人的精神续作。
在战争之人2和英雄连3都暴死的现在，地狱之门算是最好的二战RTT游戏了。
但是问题也很多，继承了战争召唤的智障AI。然后战役里很多变态防守关，自己就很少的人，还没有重武器和坦克，但是却要对付对面多倍于自己的机械化甚至坦克部队，这个也是原版战争召唤的通病，真不知道制作人脑子里装的是什么。
还有这个隐藏或者秘密任务也很搞笑，直接出现在游戏任务列表里，那不就是逼人完成吗？但是这些秘密任务的条件却又很恶心，很多你不看攻略根本不可能知道。但这样那还叫什么隐藏或者秘密目标，直接做成次要任务不就完了。

I've played this game for so long. It's awesome and scratches that WW2 itch. Tons of mod support as well to change the entire game if you become bored of that era. I paid extra sometimes ( no discount ) in support, i feel like it's well deserved at times- especially when they released Brit forces. My only gripe, devs, if you ever see this, is please add a the ability to make a cone effect as of where you want your armored units to only look at. I played heroic for the first time after 400+ hrs, and i'm so tired of of my tanks looking at the direction of enemies that are several meters out and out of sight. Per say, i want them to look down and only a road. There is walls on their left and right of them- they have absolutely no reason to start locking in on their left of an enemy they cannot even possibly hit. And because of this attempt, enemies that are on the path that i anticipated to come through destroy positioned tank or they pass that road and flank my other units. That's why personally I NEVER chose turretless tanks unless i captured them. Honestly this is the only thing that bothered me in this game, otherwise, good stuff, devs. Thank you for producing an awesome product.

I’ve been a strategy games fan for years, and I actually found this game by accident while browsing. I didn’t expect much at first, but after putting some hours into it, it honestly became one of my favorite strategy games ever
The level of detail is crazy. Tanks actually feel like tanks — armor angles matter, shell types matter, positioning matters. It’s not just “shoot until HP goes to zero.” Infantry combat is intense too, and the direct control feature is something I didn’t know I needed until I tried it. Manually controlling a single soldier or tank in the middle of a chaotic battle feels amazing
The atmosphere is also great. The uniforms, vehicles, sounds, destruction everything makes the battles feel heavy and realistic. Every match feels different, especially in dynamic campaigns
If I had one wish, it would be to see more nations added in the future. The Eastern Front is done really well, but expanding to more countries and different fronts would make the game even better and increase replayability a lot
Overall, this game was a surprise for me, and a very good one. If you like realistic WWII strategy games, you should definitely try it

就是AI寻路太蠢了，我汽车拉着火炮呢，经常一切换单位回头一看，炮莫名其妙的毁坏了
再有就是部分关卡设计的太难了吧，点名德军的宝剑海滩。
除此之外，我感觉不到缺点，征服模式更是一大亮点，RTS类搜打撤。

I would love to say that this is a good game - and it would be, if the developers could bother to optimize the file sizes. I don't have the storage for 75 gigabytes of whatever it is, let alone the absurd amounts of DLC tacked onto the game because the developers are greedy. In the base game, all you can expect is Germans and Russians, which I understand may appeal to some people, but is otherwise a severely limited selection in comparison to, I don't know, almost every other RTS game out there. And I spent 35 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dollars on this piece of ♥♥♥♥. A piece of ♥♥♥♥ that, in case you haven't read the other parts of my review - I CAN'T PLAY. BECAUSE IT'S 75 GIGABYTES AND I HAVE BETTER USES FOR THAT SPACE. Not only that, the selection of units is also pretty sad for most of the campaign - combined with the fact that setting up an AI skirmish is utterly draining with how long the loading times are. What you get is a 35 dollar steaming pile of ♥♥♥♥ served to you on a silver platter by a greedy developer - and you have to pay 30 more for a nice glass of piss to wash it down. Not recomended.

Meh is the best way to describe the value of the game its fun, has great modding active player base, bugs are pretty rare and if got on sale would not be a bad deal overall BUT the devs can and will abandon games like they did with Cta ( but put it on a huge sale several times a year anyways so its ok ) and haven't really fixed the clunk even with the price increase its demanding and kinda unoptimized and the dlc rate feels scummy but they do release free content so its not the worst DEV loop or game and overall just meh.

Esse jogo é maravilhoso, tem uma comunidade forte e a gameplay é uma delícia, você não só comanda tropas pra um local e eles fazem todo o serviço, você pode controlar o soldado em si e atirar, pode controlar tanques, artilharias e muito mais, os mods desse jogo são uma delícia de bem feitos, a gameplay de tanques é muito boa pois não usa barra de vida como parâmetro de dano, mas tem um sistema específico que remete bastante ao do war thunder, de módulos e tripulação, os tanques ficam com marcas de cada acerto que levam, se você acerta na munição, ou o tanque explode, ou a munição pega fogo, matando todos que estavam ali dentro.

Resumo: jogão, se você gosta de estratégia (mesmo se não gosta, dá uma chance, assim como eu dei)

As an avid WWII buff and longtime RTS player, Call to Arms: Gates of Hell – Ostfront should be exactly my kind of game.

In many ways, it is.

The visuals are strong. The historical accuracy of the war machines and units is impressive. The sound design — from small arms to Sherman engines to heavy artillery — does a fantastic job immersing you in the battlefield. When artillery starts landing, it feels right. Atmosphere and authenticity are not the problem here.

Which makes the shortcomings even more frustrating.

Campaign Missions
You’re locked into using whatever units the mission gives you, with little to no freedom in composition or reinforcements. I understand the realism — in war you use what you’re given — but realism doesn’t always equal fun.

Skirmish is better. You capture territory, unlock reinforcements over time, and choose what to bring in. That’s where the game feels the most alive. The problem is you only ever unlock a small slice of the total roster. The game includes everything from scout tanks to super-heavies, yet you rarely get to use most of them. And once you finally unlock the “good stuff,” the mission ends because you’ve captured everything.

Just when it gets interesting — it’s over.

Conquest Mode is where the game almost becomes incredible. You earn resources, unlock units at your discretion, and deploy them in point-limited waves. On paper, it’s perfect.

In practice, it becomes repetitive. There are only two mission types: attack or defend. Attack missions are straightforward and fine. Defense missions, however, can take 45–60 minutes of holding points while a slow counter fills. I enjoy the occasional wave defense. I don’t enjoy doing it constantly. It becomes tedious to the point where I sometimes auto-lose just to move on.

The campaign “map” is also just a web of lines between missions. There’s no actual front line, no sense of choosing where you fight. One mission is hedgerows, the next is winter snow, with no geographic logic tying it together.

UI clarity is another small but noticeable issue. When playing as the Germans, unit unlocks are labeled in German with little explanation, so unless you already know what you’re looking at, you’re unlocking blindly.

This game falls into what I call the “98% category.”

The realism is excellent.
The detail is excellent.
The sound and atmosphere are excellent.
The core mechanics are strong.

But that last 2% — mission design, pacing, variety, and UI clarity — is what determines whether it’s actually fun to play long-term.

It’s not a bad game.

It’s a frustratingly close-to-great game.

优化稀烂，这游戏现在在往配置军备竞赛的方向走，最开始我就一个1060+16gddr4，然后打苏德地图有个70帧，部队很多的时候最低也才55帧，之后16不行了闪退，升级了一下32g，大概能稳定个75帧，现在换了9600x+5060+32gddr5，平时不怎么玩吃显卡的游戏，一打起来部队一多居然低到40帧，还是1080p，为它这个游戏还得来张9070+64g内存实在是没必要，太失望了，所有DLC都是原价买的，还有支持者的一个包，做成现在这样实在是失望透顶，游戏建模越做越大，玩法机制越做越烂。。。

缺点也真的很明显，沟槽的飞机驾驶手感，早期一些质量与价格不符的DLC，人物动作还是很僵硬，开了战争迷雾后会出现敌人打你但是你连敌人的位置都不知道，以及我现在都不知道炮兵的装填手手上拿的是炮弹还是滚木
最致命是这游戏的AI：有时候自己一个个控制又很麻烦当你打开AI可自由行动后你的士兵就会在听到一点敌人的动静后就会四处跑开。你的坦克驾驶员肯定很爱惜地图里的建筑不然也不会绕一大堆的路

i really want to like this game. i've always wanted something a little more than CoH2 after sinking hundreds of hours into that game and came across this which at first glance looked like a gem. it clearly has a lot of love and labor put into it. there are hundreds of detailed, historically accurate models of vehicles and other things from several nations and the terrain and building destruction is beautiful, but there is ultra autism levels of tedious micromanagement that is not at all fun to interact with. you will have no fun micromanaging, and you will have no fun not micromanaging, because the game will punish you and all your troops will be fist-****ed and killed.

after i finished the tutorials, i tried the very first german campaign mission several times and got absolutely pounded each time. ok, fair enough, i'm new so maybe i'm not getting something. so on my last run, i meticulously babysat the braindead infantry, micromanaged the light arty to bombard hardpoints without getting instantly gibbed by invisible AT guns, and flanked and assaulted with tanks through direct control (which honestly feels like the only fair way to play this game.) this took me almost an hour in real life, and after clearing the two objectives with some losses i figured i finally had beaten this campaign mission and had extrapolated maybe a bit of fun until the next part of the mission started and the map doubled in size with new enemy hardpoints. i thought i'd humor myself and threw a couple more tanks at the enemy but eventually grew sick and tired of this mission so i ragequit.

i love strategy games and can appreciate a drawn out dramatic brawl of attrition but the difference in most other games is that i am not micromanaging each nanosecond like GoH. if i let up the micromanaging at any second in combat my units are going to be eviscarated because the TTK in this game is essentially real life. even staying on top of micromanaging you will be fisted at times because your infantry stop and stand still for a second each time you change their movement orders and then take a bullet to the noggin.

i figured campaign wasnt for me and tried conquest. the first attack mission was fun enough, i direct controlled a tank (i spec'd all my research into the strongest one i could afford because i wanted to eventually work up to a tiger) and slaughtered all i saw and captured the points. moving on to the defense segment, i was appalled to see i had to defend TWO points at once as if the micromanaging wasn't bad enough for one objective (granted, there's inherently less movement-micromanaging for defending).

long story short, i kept direct control of my tank again to try and cut down on the enemy size as much as i could before they would reach my points and my defending infantry. unfortunately i was instantly tracked and then destroyed by an AT gun in the forest somewhere, and thus the run was instantly dead after 10 minutes of preparation. skill issue or whatever.

nonetheless, this game is just not fun for the vast majority of people, myself included. i tried to keep an open mind, i watched youtube videos and tried to pay attention to how people moved their troops, i searched on reddit and steam for tips on how to get better, i played on my own for several hours to see if i would get the feel of the game, but there is just no solution to the inherent flaw of the constant micromanaging and it gets exponentially worse the larger yours and the enemy's army gets and the increasingly powerful units they throw at you.

this kind of franchise was built for one squadron to be actively micromanaged, which wasn't bad. but the scale of these games have increased dramatically and the mechanics have had almost no innovation, OR, they've had innovation towards even more micromanagement (the inventory system). the inventory is abysmal. spending 10 minutes fiddling back and forth between inventories in the tutorial to fill up a tank was a terrible experience. and this was in a lull when all the enemies are dead, do the devs really expect people to **** with the inventory system in a massive battle and have any success doing so?

i wish that AI in this game was improved as a whole and there were more inclusions of allied AI in conquest which is really the only mode that i can muster up some enjoyment in. in conquest defense, i wish there were some allied soldiers pre-placed in defensive positions on your points and you would just need a few moments to fill in the gaps with your own troops and incorporate some AT and MG. i wish you could call in AI reinforcements in both defense and attack, who would move around and engage the enemy at their own discretion while you worry about maybe at most a couple squadrons of your own soldiers. i exclusively play CoH2 PVE with a couple AI allies for this reason so the battle feels more dynamic and everything is not always resting on my shoulders. i don't have to worry about skipping around the map every 2 seconds and precisely moving troops back, forward, or side to side so they don't die in a milisecond because they're an inch out of place, and i can accept more easily when i actually do need to micromanage a little for a particular coordinated push with say armor and infantry.

again, CoH2 nailed a good balance. while Ostfront and games before it (Men of War Assault Squad 2) go absolutely overkill and increase the size and amount of squadrons you are managing at any given time AND the complexity of the individual units themselves by granting them less autonomy and incorporating layers upon layers of interaction with things like stances, inventories, holstering weapons (WHY?), etc. CoH2 had manageable numbers of squadrons, and an acceptable complexity to each. the TTK was also not literally real-life like Ostfront giving you much more time to react and adapt to a unit that may have been ambushed or accidentally overextended rather than having it be a complete and utter loss while you were busy managing 20 other units like Ostfront.

also, DLC prices are too steep, and as a previous reviewer Booba put it perfectly:
"Players (who don't abuse prescription amphetamines) are over-saturated with tasks, to the point that it's easier to complete a mission by playing the game like War Thunder or an awful third person shooter than it is to actually command troops."

tl;dr: seemingly high quality and decent game, suffering from the inherent unfun micromanaging flaw all games of this franchise have with no innovation to address it. this is a niche game that has its moments and from what i can see has a strong and loving community but in its current state it is too annoying and frusturating to play and cannot properly be enjoyed by the vast majority of people.

Have to take a no. This is fun at the start but I quickly relized the unrealistic ranges break immersion for me. Steel Divison 2 doesn't use true ranges either but it is better than this. A tanks average effective range in WWII is 700 meters to 2 kilometers. I get an arcade feel from this game. Like Company of Hero's, tanks practically fighting hull to hull, is rediculous. Not so bad in this title but 50 to 100 meters in game is still unbelievable. Good for people who just want arcade WWII. Not for anyone looking for reality. I own Graviteam Tactics: Mius Front and that game is brutally realistic. Haven't come across anything that comes close. Shame. There is no "Not for me" button so it's a "No" for me.

Tried and tried with this. But just didn't enjoy the experience. I played the Dynamic Conquest mode which is a series of skirmish maps over a very simple objective based map. This mode seems like an afterthought, when it should be the main part of the game imo. On a few of the skirmishes I'd clearly won by eliminating all enemies, but apparently 3 enemies remained, couldn't find them so I had to retreat, losing the battle. Bug or bad game design? A game killing bug would be bad after so many updates.

Selecting units is a chore, drag a box around them and only certain ones are selected. Moving them is also something that doesn't always work. They won't always move at all, often multiple clicks are required. Be this bug or bad design, it's infuriating.

Menu system is sloppy, icons are tiny, and everything just seems really bloody janky.
I loved the predecessors of this game, I believe that Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2 was a fluid experience compared to this.

I wanted to love this game with it's realistic damage models, quality AI and detailed visuals, but it fails hugely.

Bought the game only to realize you have to pay full price AGAIN if you want to play any other nation other than Germany and USSR. If you don't buy the DLC's it's basically impossible to play online. Store page is not clear on that fact and induces people to buy the game thinking it's gonna be plug n' play. Definitely a scummy tactic.

Not everyone around the world earn in dollars, this game is actually VERY expensive in my country and having to pay for it again in order to literally play the game is absurd.

So this blows Men of War out of the water.

I am a huge fan of that franchise and this game improves upon it in every single way, the Conquest Mode alone is the largest advancement in this genre.

On a personal note my career path is an L&D Coordinator (In charge of a large training department). This is going to be a Plus that not a lot of people will appreciate, but whoever on the Dev team crafted the tutorials for this game; they are the greatest tutorials I have ever seen. I always love to see how Game Devs convey their game mechanics in a training format and this is the Gold Standard, the videos and gameplay segments cover every learning style. The ONLY thing I would say to add is in the journal for the objectives more detailed instructions for learners who do best with written instructions.

So yeah my niche profession itch was hit, also the game just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rocks.

很棒的游戏，但是明显不会适合太多人，上帝视角的指挥与第三视角的实际操控极大丰富了可玩性，你可以像传统游戏一样，只负责大方面的指挥，也可以化身特种兵或者特种坦克，一人为后面的部队打开缺口。但是其硬核的程度，以及并不完整的教程和部分不太合理的机制会使得一些人难以接受。
单人玩法的剧情和设计很贴合历史，但也导致很多时候会玩的很痛苦。你会深刻理解德军闪电战的厉害，拿着短三短四去捅kv1的痛，真的太痛了，苏军也是，t34等的穿透让他遇到其他中坦或者重坦后，只能对其进行简答的无害化处理。。。断其履带。
征服是一个很好玩的模式，但是每次能召唤的部队太少，坦克占的人口太多，虽然好像有mod可以解决，但是我自己无法使用，导致如果使用高级部队，那么能操控的就只有很少的单位了。

Game is fun, though it can definitely piss you off sometimes.

What hooked me:
The shell penetration system is surprisingly deep. Vehicles don’t just explode when you “have enough armor penetration.” You have to account for projectile angle, vehicle positioning, armor thickness at different spots, and more. When you finally land a clean shot and a tank blows up in a fiery explosion, it’s quite satisfying.

Immersion & Tension:
The atmosphere is dark and heavy, especially with fog of war enabled. On larger maps, sending a scout for intel is crucial, getting flanked can be brutal. It adds a real sense of strategy and immersion.

Teamplay & Multiplayer:
The game really shines with co-op or multiplayer. Solo is fine, but coordinating with teammates is where the depth shows. Different players often run complementary doctrines, help each other’s fronts, or send reinforcements strategically. PvP is also an option if that’s more your style.

Gameplay & Strategy:
You can’t play braindead here. You need to carefully manage units, equipment choice, and doctrine. Different doctrines and playstyles drastically change how battles flow, which keeps things fresh and tactical. If you’re new to RTS games, Ostfront will likely take a bit to learn.

Downsides:

Uses player-hosted matches instead of dedicated servers which can cause lag for geographically distant friends.

AI can sometimes be dumb, buggy, or slow. Not constant, but noticeable at times.

Verdict:
Immersive, tactical, and more intense than it looks at first glance. If you like slower, methodical WW2 RTS games, Ostfront is definitely worth trying.

TL;DR:
Fun and immersive WW2 RTS with realistic armor penetration that makes positioning and angling matter. Multiplayer is where it really shines thanks to teamwork and doctrine variety. Downsides: player-hosted servers can lag, AI can be buggy. New RTS players should expect a learning curve.

Wer die Sinnlosigkeit vom Krieg als Zuschauer erfahren will, kommt an CallToArms GOH nicht vorbei.
Es ist bedrückend wenn man sieht wie ganze Horden im Abwehrfeuer von MG's und Artillerie-Sperrfeuer vernichtet werden.
Macht man sich bewusst, dass es das so wirklich gab und Menschen durch diese Abwehrfeuer laufen mussten, wird einem etwas mulmig.

Die taktische und strategische Vielfalt in GOH ist grenzenlos: Panzer, Infanterie, Unterstützung (PAK, MG, Mörser, Haubitzen, FLAK), Transport und Logistik muss man unter Umständen alles managen. Auch die Vielfalt der Einheiten ist immens. Vom einfachen Wehrpflichten, über Panzergrenadiere, Flammenwerfer, Pioniere und Scharfschützen. Alle mit ihren eignen Vor- und Nachteilen.

Ob Single- oder Multiplayer, hier bekommt jeder was er sucht.
Dazu kommt eine große Moddingcommunity, die das Spielerlebnis auf vielfältige Weise erweitert, verbessert, erschwert oder völlig umwälzt.

très très bon jeu rien à dire. tout est fidèlement recrée de l'infanterie, au blindés etc.. Rien à redire à part la difficulté de la prise en main du jeu dans les premières heures de jeu. simplement parfait ! 10/10

This game is fun but not good enough to recommend. Taking control of individual units is fun but the mode is super janky. Your units have really bad path finding and dont make sense in general, old rts games like coh or even red alert play better. Entire factions are locked behind 20 to 30 dollar dlcs that aren't worth full price. Wait until a sale if you really want to buy this.
