This game is fun to mess around with the bricks and the items, but the good thing is that we can use add-ons on Blockland, or even build anything! Although, the multiplayer servers are mostly dead, but it's still fun to play for me.

There's definately a vibe that Blockland gives off that no other does. The game is extremely customisable, backed with a whole selection of mods from community websites like; The Blockland Fan Forums & Blockland Online. It's actually insane what people are capable of creating in this game. You can Build Houses, Make your own gamemode's for other people to play and/or kill, Go-Karting, RPG style games, Make your own community, etc.
For the most part since ive played again, a lot of people you'd interact with will be quite welcoming and helpful within the game. They'll tell you all about the history of the game and show you the cool quirks and gimmicks, since this game came out in 2007. Still a handful of people that play that are genuine people.
But then the other reality of this game.
Like with other old game communities, you have undesirables.
Some of the people that play this game are absolutely unfiltered, One of the servers had Epstein's Island on it, Users that seem very comfortable dropping the N-word. You can probably find out the rest.

I used to play this a lot growing up, and although it's still relatively the same 15+ years later, it's a good classic. not a lot of servers nowadays, but still a small dedicated few, probably 50 people at any given moment. Great sandbox game

I started playing Blockland during the summer of 2008. This game to me, defines a large part of my childhood experience with video games, and directly inspired me to continue as a PC gamer. That being said, this is my honest modern review. Blockland is a game out of a completely different era. Although it was updated as late as 2017, really the game is a pre 2010's experience. It created the ground floor for games like Roblox(As a building game for kids) and MineCraft(As an indie game, seriously cannot understate this) People really cannot understand how popular this game was for the PC audience back in the day. Used to be filled with life, community and creativity, but now, all that remains are outdated/lost mods, and an intolerable microscopic community of gate keepers and ideologs. Blockland had a lot of drama, most of which completely predates the modern gaming market. The game is technically, extremely outdated. Graphics, and physics engines are straight out of 09(Besides the lighting updates) I really cannot recommend this game to new players. The only thing left of value is nostalgia. Servers are practically dead, mod support/variety is extremely lacking, and the base game offers very little value beyond building, which itself is also extremely limited. (Think, if you only had Legos, such as solid 1x1, 1x2, plates, etc, from the 1980s to work with) Mods are where this game had it's greatest value. With the death of RTB, and the lack of interest in Glass, most mods were left to the forums which died off when it was abandoned in 2017. Most download links are dead. Some old community members hoard collections of old mods, but as per the gatekeeping, refuse to share or relinquish the files. So yeah, complete shame that Eric Hartman abandoned the project, but after nearly 20 years you can't really blame him.
RIP Blockland, you will always be remembered for all the fun shenanigans and all the amazing worlds and servers you created.
WOW, amazing game
as alive as it can get for a 20 year old game that was wiped off the mainsteram. There's still plenty of players, especially on weekends during EU late afternoon hours. However it is not a game you could expect to join and immediately find new people anymore.

Game is on life support at this point, maybe 10-12 players on 1 server if you're lucky, but it's fun to mess around in Freebuild or Speedkart with some friends
if you've never played blockland and want a lego building game, i recommend skipping this. this game has been left functioally untouched for over a decade and much jank- such as mechanical and technical- is only becoming more rusty as time goes by. if you want something akin to that, i recommend checking out brickaida.
there's not much that this game provides that other games don't, unless you're explicilty in it to see or explore old dead servers, like me.

The vanilla game is..acceptable, for anybody willing to fork over $10 for a 2000s game with a double digit playerbase. There is an intoxicating freedom in building with thousands of legos as freely as you please and seeing others joining in, walking around or join your construction escapades. The simple deathmatching and race modes are also nice, though it's likely you'd need friends to get a server started.
A lot of what has eternalized this game in many people's hearts is community, in many different ways (some positive and some very very negative) but for this review I speak on servers and content.
The incredibly open addon system birthed an incredible amount of creativity beyond lego builds and many of the community gamemodes are what remain among the most memorable things of Blockland.
In the present day state of the game, the numbers have obviously dwindled and not all the dogfighting or dueling modes are always playable. Though, the decades of growth in modding and building have allowed for some of the most impressive and insanely fun modes out there, some playable solo if that suits your fancy (or when you basically have no other choice).
Some servers to check out:
- Pecon7's Age of Dungeons: A procedurally generated dungeon crawler RPG where you fight bugs and monsters, level up gear and collect swords and spells, and if you invest long enough, band with fellow dungeoneers to take down incredibly fun raid bosses.
- Unlimited Mining: Sort of idle game, where you dig for ore all the way down to the core of the earth. The most developed one as far as I know is Skyboard's SkyboardMining, with lots of cool mining tech and areas that are split into another plane of reality or something (idk i didnt grind that far down yet
- Conan's Farming: Incremental farming game where you can use the base game building tools to build a farm on a plot of land owned only by you. Start from humble potato seeds being watered by your own hands and eventually progress to a concrete behemoth of a factory with automated pumps filling up truckloads of greenhouses and fruit trees. Also has a massive map to explore for those who don't care much to farm
- The Brighter Dark's BlockOps: An incredible homage to the CoD zombies series, with incredibly faithful recreations of the mode in entirety: weapons, maps, the annoying ass random loot crate, soda machines, wave and zombie mechanics, even the character voice lines and easter eggs per map. If there was one custom mode to show the capabilities of the game and its community, this one is my pick.
Some other mentions that aren't necessarily lesser, but less popular and/or accessible depending on when they're hosted or if people are even on the server:
- Monoblaster's TTT: A Trouble in Terrorist Town recreation, with various custom weapons and maps by the BL community.
- Eagle517's Trench Wars: A classic team deathmatch gamemode where the entire map is made of destructible and placeable dirt.
- Crown's Jailbreak: Also a recreation of a GMod mode. Prisoners are subject to the whims of games created by the prison warden, seeking ways to sneak out and wipe out the guards holding them captive (this guy hosts the mode like once a year
- Kyle's Dusk: A lengthy haunted halloween adventure mode, recently completed after several years in the making. Travel through disparate worlds and piece together the mysterious fate of lands eternal. Only hosted in October
- The Brighter Dark's Randomizer: Twenty years of modding gets you a lot of weapons. This deathmatch bonanza gets you a chance to use them all
Blockland has been and continues to be an incredible platform for anybody to shape sheer creativity into something tangible. Almost all custom content is open source and easily extractable by anybody who can open a zip file, and there are various resources (albeit scattered) and open communities for anybody seeking support. It's often advised that people best develop skills doing projects they love, and Blockland has been an incredible outlet for me and many others.

10/10 best game from my childhood
I used to have an amazing time with this game, some of the best gaming memories as a kid, personally. However, Eric Hartman (Badspot) has fully abandoned it, and turned into a full-time Twitter Goblin (No, I do not care to promote the 1 game he has started working on since this). There hasn't been a real update in a legitimate decade, and you hardly ever see players online anymore. It kills me to review this poorly, but my dislike for the creator FAR outweighs the nostalgia. If you want it to play with a small group, or build and mod by yourself, it's worth it—but don't expect a community experience anymore. Eric has made it painfully clear that he doesn't care to nurture that as of the present day, in accordance with an entitled post he put up a couple years back. I don't care if it's $12.99, you may as well wait for a sale.

Such an amazing game with rich history! Truth is this is a very good game. I can't recommend it however because support has ended, the life of the game is over, it's been almost twenty years, and the player base sadly keeps dropping. The game is an artifact, and fun to explore, if it's cheap enough, check it out. Otherwise, look for Brickadia as it seems like a good spiritual successor. But just know before getting this that it's an artifact, not a modern masterpiece.

I wish there was a "positive but don't truly recommend" option here. I loved this game but I do not recommend purchasing it, the game is abandoned and the community is long dead. Check out Brickadia instead. ALSO DO NOT EVER USE TORQUE AS YOUR ENGINE, take this game as a lesson why.
I played this game for a long time before it came to steam and it was a very lovely part of my childhood. It was something of a "Lego Gmod 4Chan" but in a positive way. The community had a lot of really passionate and creative people, and a huge amount of coders that programmed entire games. For a good while this game and roblox were like the biggest rivals ever but this game eventually dwindled over the years.
There's a lot of reasons why, but I honestly don't even know where to begin. I think ultimately the core community just outgrew the game and without them the game didn't really have a good way to bring in new players. Torque is also a notoriously old engine and just didn't help the game age gracefully. Part of that is updating the game's lighting lead to the death of maps, which further limited people's creativity.
Overall? I still loved the game very much, and I got to have a lot of good memories and adventures on community servers. Despite the game's flaws it never really became a pay-to-win kinda thing and in my time playing it, it was mostly just the community making games together and having fun. We never really had any of the massive controversies that roblox had and even if our game eventually died, I can at least look back and say I had fun.

Game has been abandoned by just about everyone including the original community. Dev's poor choices and eventual abandonment is kinda what makes this game outdated today. Don't bother finding full multiplayer lobbies, last time i checked which was probably sometime before the end of the last decade, most multiplayer servers have kinda went empty. Only reason youd play this is maybe for nostalgia purpose, but thats about it, the building controls are pretty outdated for todays sandbox control standards, and if you want to play a game a thriving mutiplayer communit, the next best thing would be either Roblox or Minecraft, which are not dead and have massive player base on them. Plus Minecraft still has mods still being made for it to this day due to a active community on java and bedrock.
I'm sure it's very fun if you have friends who are willing to play it. And I respect the fact that it has stayed online for as long as it did. But as it is, the servers are very empty, and all the gamemodes it offers aren't interesting enough for me to keep playing.

I really don't do negative reviews often, but I feel like my experience buying this game during the 2025 Summer Sale will probably helpful to hear. I got the game and was excited to get right back into playing around on the default nostalgic maps for a bit and then modding it...but the moment I got in I couldn't find the maps anywhere. I was really, really confused as to what was going on, since I could only see options to launch the game into weird gamemodes. Where was bedroom? Where was kitchen? Turns out all the way back in 2012, they updated the game to V21 and that led to the removal of the *entire* map function of the game I was remembering, alongside a lot of other stuff that I guess really killed off the community. While that was a bummer, I figured there had to be some remnant still going...but not really? There's some things similar to RTB but they don't have much content.
I'll still probably hold onto this just for the nostalgia and satisfaction of owning a game from my childhood again, but if you actually want to play it? Don't buy this. There's seriously nothing going on here, it's been gutted. I'm sorry.
I played this game so much as a kid, being able to play it again and still find players is something I cherish. It's nowhere near as populated as it used to be, but there are discords you can join to find people to play with. Either way I love Blockland, I wish it got more updates.

The year is 2025, Brickadia is about to release, and I am officially ready to say goodbye. This is a send-off for Blockland.
Blockland was made by Badspot, and it was just him experimenting with Sandbox in his college dorm. This was Gary's mod for me when I was a kid, but I feel like it was better than that.
I had so much fun from ages 9-15 playing this game. The community is what kept it alive, as Badspot sort of left after a while, and didn't listen to the community much. We played and created nonetheless. From pirate ship battles, to prison breaks, to futuristic Grapple hook knife battles on floating platforms, we were there.
Unfortunately now, this game is dead. There are a few peoole still living in it, but the reality is sad.
However, Brickadia comes out for Early Access soon, and it will run where Blockland walked. The creativity in this one seems endless, and the TEAM building it cares about the community and what they are making. Its a passion project.
While I am recommending Blockland in this review, its not worth returning to or for new players to check out anymore. There was hope with workshop when this game came to steam, but it never happened, and the mod support is all but gone.
RIP Blockland, I'll forever remember my time in this game, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ am I excited for the next adventure!

Blockland seems interesting, but also seems to be lacking! The controls are a nightmare! So many times I tried to use normal 'play mode', instead of build mode or spray can mode. I wanted to interact with doors and chests. I really enjoy the concept behind it though. To tell the truth, I dream of making my own levels and objectives. It seems too advanced for me currently, though. The game could take inspiration from Minecraft which has different gamemodes for players, such as adventure mode, creative mode, survival mode, etc.

A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ classic. Back a decade ago this was viewed as a real competitor to Roblox, and now - no one remembers it.
I will say, don't play this game expecting a bustling community of hundreds of players. The first time I played, the most people I got in one server was about 6 out of 24 people (Including myself), and even then, most of the time, they were just trying to kill each other. I recommend this game more if you are someone who enjoys exploring old games and opening up time capsules from the 2010s, like myself. The game itself is pretty dated, but is fun to explore and witness nonetheless. Although there are less players nowadays, you can still find a couple people in the few populated servers at certain times of the day.
