A good beginning for this rhythm auto-runner series.
The game has simple and easy to understand controls, and the gameplay is fun and addicting.
The music is excellent and the adaptive bits enhance the player input with it.
It's got a few problems though:
* There isn't a checkpoint system like following entries, making the later levels quiet frustrating as they
get longer and longer.
* The game runs at 60fps but the background has a set motion blur that you can't deactivate, making
hazards more difficult to anticipate on first runs, adn it can cause a little eye strain if playing for long
sesions.
* While on the subject of hazards and backgrounds, some of them are not distinguishable enough. This
can feel a little cheap taking into account that getting hit takes you all the way back to the beginning of
the level.
In conclusion, a good introduction for the series and a fun and challenging rhythm platformer.

I stayed up way past my bed time, out of part stubborness, part genuine enjoyment of the game. I had set my goal for the night to try and finish the first act. There were some obstacles but still, I perservered. Then came the Odyssey level. I thought "ok, that must be it, this was so long and so difficult, I will get to have a break now." Then came the last level, the boss fight. I thought then, how much longer could this possibly go on for? It felt like being trapped in purgatory as I failed over and over again, watching myself repeat the same mistakes again and again, only to be transported to the very beginning of the level.

I have no idea how the other games play, and I'm not sure I ever care to find out. I sure do hope they have added a checkpoint feature or at least some sort of practice mode. Yeah, I know that reset are fast, yeah I know there is a point to the lack of checkpoints but whatever, I like to have FUN with my videogames sometimes. Is that such a crime?

I write this with a heavy heart as I do truly believe this might be a so-called "good game". However, this was also one of the most infuriating experiences ever (personally) and it evoked emotions in me that I do not wish to feel while playing videogames.

Ok, rant over. Uninstalling this one and shelving it.

BIT.TRIP系列第四部，也是全系列最出名的一部。
这次的游戏类型换成了关卡制跑酷，不知道这是不是几何冲刺的启发原型？不过本作的操作键位比几何冲刺多，更有平台跳跃的参与感。设计元素的重复问题一样存在。
难度上，大部分流程还是困难但人性化的，毕竟关卡够短，一气呵成也感觉很好。不过到了第三章游戏终于露出了獠牙，到了最后三关更是巅峰造极的丧心病狂。提前跳到两个障碍中间 + 正弦波轨迹连续子弹，对付这两种障碍几乎只能靠手感直觉......当然了，碰一下还是得从头开始！
音效系统延续了系列传统，连击匹配多音轨 + 调性和谐音效，在更高密度的操作下也更动听了。只要你操作手法高，就能自然演奏出欢快的音乐。
画风从雅达利变成了体素风，欢快幽默中又有点怪诞。不过也显得碰撞箱比较模糊，这算是本作海量难点里最不公平的一个。

[h3]Defies genre convention to its own detriment[/h3]

A rhythm platformer is an interesting concept all its own, but the inflexible way this game has combined them adds up to fake difficulty. You have a little bit of slack with many of the jumps, but that’s kind of where the forgiveness stops. You can’t really correct most bad jumps, you cannot rely on visual ID to judge certain inputs (you end up having to rely on pure memorization at some point, probably sooner rather than later), you cannot just match the beat if you lose the rhythm (you basically have to precede all the beats, what is called “rushing” in musical performance—in other words, you’re fighting best practices here), you start from the top if you mess up an obstacle, and the random notes that play upon success isn’t real music (it’s pretty much just soothing noises).

If it were a purer rhythm game, or just fairer (e.g. letting you drill a part you’re failing), it could be considered pretty easy up to about 3-11 or so.

I am also not so fond of the art style, which I can respect that it’s supposed to be trippy in the first place and is paying homage to home-computer game art rather than later, more polished/professional fare, but it definitely smells of that meme riffing on indies from this time (one where a certain blue android is redrawn with noodly limbs, bloom, and mixed-res pixels and the artist is satisfied that this is exactly how those old games looked). For me, the thing that was charming about most retro pixel art was the art somehow appearing to exceed the hard limitations, not (usually) the squarishness. So while I don’t believe that’s the story behind all the recycled parts and raw look of things, it does feel lazy.

Only 11.7% of players can get past the first zone. This simple ass game is actually... not a simple ass game... wait no it's just missing checkpoints. Difficult to recommend but I enjoyed it, just don't go for 100%.

edit: just beat the game. last few levels are super super hard before the final boss. i absolutely reconsider recommending this game, please play the remake BIT.TRIP.RERUNNER instead.

Good game, it's a classic of the indie scene, you probably already know its deal at this point, but it doesn't run at all on Steam Deck. The shaders fail to compile and the game crashes every time I launch it. It'd be nice if the devs patched it, but I doubt they'd do that at this point. (It's been over 10 years and there's a remake.)

BIT.TRIP RUNNER mistura jogos de plataforma com jogos de ritmo de uma forma bem inovadora para a época em que saiu, com o jogo sendo um dos clássicos indie do período que eles começaram a ser populares - mesmo quem não conhece o jogo muito provavelmente viu o Commander Video fazendo cameo em outros jogos como Super Meat Boy e Super Smash Bros.

A ideia aqui é que o jogo é um runner em que você precisa fazer diversas ações no ritmo, mas na prática acaba funcionando mais como um jogo de plataforma que você cria a melodia ao realizar as diferentes ações que ele te pede. Esse não é o primeiro jogo da série BIT.TRIP, mas é o mais conhecido, e eu consigo entender o motivo disso: é um bom conceito bem aplicado, e seus visuais que misturam pixel art com modelos 3D em voxel é bem característica.

O jogo é curto em número de fases, mas a sua duração pode variar de jogador para jogador: por mais que possa não parecer, esse é um jogo bem difícil. Eu não acho que a dificuldade é bem balanceada, apresentando picos de dificuldade bem grandes já no primeiro mundo, e muitas vezes o que o jogo quer que você faça parece difícil só por ser difícil. Meu maior problema com ele é a forma que as fases bônus foram feitas: elas são bem mais difíceis que o jogo principal, funcionando de forma similar aos lados B de Celeste, porém sempre que você quer jogar uma delas, você precisa rejogar a fase principal de forma perfeita, não existe como jogar apenas a fase bônus. Isso torna o processo de jogar elas bem maçante, e é o que me impediu de platinar o jogo.

No geral eu recomendo BIT.TRIP RUNNER, especialmente para os que já jogam e são bons em jogos de ritmo e de plataforma, pois pela dificuldade presente aqui eu não acho que ele agradaria o público em geral. Estou muito curioso para jogar sua sequência, que foi minha introdução à serie quando eu era mais novo e nunca terminei, assim como nos jogos anteriores da série que possuíam mecânicas diferentes.

Acredito, que até então, essa seja o melhor jogo de correr e pular no estilo 2D/plataforma(ainda não joguei o 2).
Arte bonita e música excelente! Uma bela fusão do retro com o moderno!

Mas é bem desafiador, infelizmente esse não tem um sistema de check point, o que torna bem frustante para pessoas que não tem uma habilidade tão boa assim, assim como eu. Então se você bater em um obstáculo volta tuuuudo de novo...

Il gioco si riassume perfettamente nel suo titolo: le parole Trip e Runner fanno bene intendere il cosa dovrete fare, ossia correre ed evitare ostacoli, e il come dovrete farlo, ossia sotto gli effetti di un Trip.
Un titolo sfidante dove ogni errore vi riporterà all'inizio del livello, ironico e che non si prende affatto sul serio, da affrontare battendo il piede a ritmo di musica.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game is looking good but feels extremely bad.
First of all the game is lagging on some parts (for example if something is moving in the background) which is weird considering it's a game from 2011 with PCs nowadays.
Second of all levels are either purposefully made insanely weird (partially not intuitive) and 10ms reaction gap or were not play tested enough, i highly doubt that casual player can get past 1st boss without pulling their hair out.

Just play Geometry Dash at this point unless you wanna play an old classic.

It's my third time finishing Bit.Trip Runner. First time, on the WiiWare version, I thought it was amazing. Now, having already experienced the second game, It's hard not to feel a little frustrated with the controls and level design. For that reason, I can't recommend this one. But it deserves respect for launching this interesting series!

Когда-то я был молод и глуп, и скупал в стиме всё, что продавалось со скидкой. И ладно бы оно лежало в библиотеке никогда не запущенным, но я играл в эти игры совсем чуть-чуть, из-за чего мой средний процент достижений улетел в тартарары (о чём я, конечно же, узнал намного позже)
И вот я решил поиграть во всё то, что залежалось у меня с давних времён. Выбор пал на BIT.TRIP RUNNER, так как в метках указаны жанры "ритм игра" и "музыка", которые я люблю. Но к моему разочарованию от ритм игры здесь почти ничего нет, это по большей части платформер. Но и платформеры я люблю, поэтому решил распробовать. Что же касается музыки: саундтрек здесь какой-то дженерик чиптюн (в плохом смысле). Плюс ко всему при каждом движении КомандерВидео (ГГ игры) воспроизводится отдельный звук, который, по идее, должен дополнять саундтрек, но чаще выходит ровно наоборот - звуки просто превращаются в кашу

Со сложностью здесь тоже какая-то хрень: самый сложный босс - в первой зоне, самые сложные уровни - во второй. Получается что последняя зона игры по всем аспектам проходится легче. Бред полный.

Из плюсов можно выделить неплохой концепт игры, прикольную воксельную графику (для 2010 года) и трек, играющий в титрах после прохождения

Благодаря Super Meat Boy я узнаю о тех старых играх, что прошли мимо меня в свое время. Это игра не стала исключением - открытие персонажа Commander Video впоследствии привело меня сюда. Игра авто-раннер без права на ошибку - умер, начинай все заново. Окей, привыкнуть можно. Первый мир абсолютный среднячок, вывозит только тем что он служит ролью "обучения", второй уже намного лучше в плане атмосферы и дизайна. Третий... Дайте мне немного времени, и после плюсов я обязательно вернусь к нему :)
+ Дизайн уровней. Конкретно 2-ого и 3-его Мира, несмотря на то что цель всей игры НЕ ОТВЛЕКАТЬСЯ на посторонние мельтешащие объекты, окружение достаточно проработано, и довольно атмосферно.
+ Музыка максимально средняя. Здесь нет никаких раскачивающих тебя треков (кроме босс-файтов) и все держится на (почти) одной и той же мелодии. Но напомню - в чем главная цель игры? Проходя по 40 раз уровень уже и не думаешь о ее существовании.
+ В игре есть несколько разнообразных боссов. Из них самый приятный 2-ой, у остальных ты больше проходишь сам уровень, нежели босса.

И на этом плюсы у игры заканчиваются. Я старался выделить в них то что меня удивило в начале игры, но так как я (как и лишь 7% комьюнити) дошли до 3-его Мира, больше хорошего сказать мне нечего. Время минусов:
- Авто-раннер без права на ошибку. Эта игра считай похоронила себя еще на начале, ведь чем не приятное чувство когда ты дошел до середины/конца уровня, врезался в объект и начинаешь все заново :))) Ну, ты учтешь свою ошибку и таки пройдешь уровень? Что-же, это работает так до определенных уровней, 1-11, 1-12, 2-9, и боже бл*ть (за мат не извиняюсь) уровни с 3-9 по 3-11. Здесь уже играет роль не только запоминание паттерна, но и насколько долго хватит тебя и твоего терпения, из раза в раз проходя [Интересные] и [Реально увлекательные] уровни.
- Разных Миров 3, но объекты в них играют одну и ту же роль, просто имея другую текстуру. В 1-ом Мире ты еще не знал чего ждать от игры, и все было в новинку, но потом у разработчиков кончилась фантазия. Удивительно как с таким "разнообразием" игру растянули на целых 33 уровня (не считая боссов)
- Кто тот гений из разработчиков, что решил добавить уровень 1-11 не в соответствующий его уровню сложности Мир? Если верить достоверности процентажа ачивок (на случай, если они не были сломаны долгое время) его прошло лишь 11% игроков. Таким образом большая часть комьюнити (89%) просто напросто отсеялась от игры, так и не осилив его. Все эти 3к положительных отзывов это те самые 11%? Или большая часть оценила лишь 1-ый Мир, который слабее чем последующие во всех смыслах?
- Ну и на сладкое - бонусные ретро уровни. Сами по себе они простые, но единственная цель их существования - получение Идеального счета на уровне. Да, вот только...если ты пропустишь хотя-бы один слиток, перепроходи оригинальный уровень заново, просто чтобы иметь еще одну попытку. Что мешало отделить их, упростив и так непростую задачу тем трем калекам что решили пройти все 33 испытания на Идеально - загадка...

Игра не дает изначально знать о себе как о максимально сложной, карающей и жесткой, but here we are - игру прошло меньше 4% игроков (я в их числе, к счастью) а большая ее часть застряла на 1-ом Мире. Хорошая работа :)

Играл я как-то в Super Meat Boy.. И меня очень привлёк Командир Видео, поэтому я решил поиграть в BIT.TRIP RUNNER.

Игра замечательная! Очень весёлая, с хорошей графикой и замечательной музыкой! Может быть для нынешнего времени кому-то может показаться скучной, но для тех годов это был пик, да и я в принципе ни разу ни заскучал.

Если у вас железные нервы - желаю вам удачи. [u] Слабонервным я не рекомендую пытаться проходить игру полностью, я серьёзно. [/u] Куча сложных уровней и ретро челленджи будут заставлять вас ненавидеть эту игру. Ретро челлендж 3-2 вы будете проклинать из-за факта присутствия в нём безумного тайминга.
Я прошёл игру полностью на 100%, и на получении последнего достижения был очень измучен. Однако это не меняет моё отношение к игре - я всё ещё считаю её достаточно хорошей.

С момента выхода BIT.TRIP RERUNNER я больше рекомендую вам пойти поиграть в именно в RERUNNER, потому что он гораздо лучше обычного BIT.TRIP RUNNER во всех аспектах.
Но если вы хотите купить игру для ностальгической атмосферы - покупайте это!

This game is good. The main problem is the lack of checkpoints that completely ruin the game for me. Some of the levels are so incredibly long, with so much to remember, it began to hurt my head. If you can handle games that require a LOT of trial and error, check it out. Good game, not for me.

Don´t get fooled by the rhythm tag and mentions of it on the description, this is NOT a rhythm game, it's a RUNNER.
I'm saying this because most of the "rhythm" comes from random sounds that play each time you get through an obstacle, and even then, you HAVE to jump/kick/reflect off beat(for some reason)
Also, I gotta say this game hasn't aged really well on the graphic side, not to mention some stuff like the reflect pellets blend with the background way too much and others like the red pellets that fall from the sky are pretty unfair.
I would recommend getting Rerunner instead but I haven´t tried that yet so I'll just say this game is fine, not very good on readability, but its fine.

okay so i bought all the runner game. i test the first one, didn't like it, play the second one (because some people say that its better) really enjoy it. after like 2-3h on the second game, i decided to retry the first one, still bad. i played rerunner, finish it and finished the 1st zone of this game with no checkpoint. retry this one and damn, its still horribly bad.

so yeah this one is pretty bad, the difficulty is more about timing than trying to dodge the obstacle. the Bonus level (that you HAVE to play if you get all the gold bar) is absolutely horrible. the OST is a bit meh, feel like just some beat and random noise, and it feel like its always the same "music". the game don't have checkpoint so i just "ragequit" the 11 level of world one after seeing 93 gold. plus from the very begining you have a dumb gold inside a UFO. and its just the start of the level. i will not try to get absolutely stupid gold and risk dying for a level that as 93 gold !

also i dont like the font, hard to read, so yeah. just skip to the second game or the remake Rerunner, both are really good and addictive whitout being frustating

Until an hour ago at the time of me writing this sentence, I had the privilege to say "I've never cried at a video game". Not out of sadness, happiness, or anything. That was crushed when I died mere inches from the goal on 3-10 and had to start all the way over. After I read 'em - that being the pause menu options - and wept, I slowly trudged my cursor to the 'close window' button, and decided it was time to file for divorce, no more would Commander Video's defeated little 'whoosh' noise haunt my nightmares. Ah, who am I kidding, they're gonna haunt them anyway. Whoosh.

Let me clue you in - back in the early 2010s, I got this game's demo on WiiWare and absolutely loved it, but for some reason I could never get past the first bounce-pad levels. Luckily, since I'm not a crayon-munching munchkin anymore, I got past it easily, and it was smooth sailing... until 1-11. This game's difficulty curve conveniently doubles as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sine wave, it's all over the place! The bosses are drop-dead boring - a game of memorization rather than reflex - the game is artificially padded by the bullsh!t checkpoint system.

Oh wait, did I say "bullsh!t checkpoint system"? Silly me! There is no checkpoint system. Milliseconds off a jump, and it's all the way back to square one for you, mister! It makes a game that would otherwise be maybe 3 hours drag on and on, into a cacophony of blurry sights and sounds, doing the same parts of the same level you've already mastered just to have ONE SHOT at the same headache-inducing obstacle you had 0 clue was coming up the first time. Same with the "bonus level", you have to complete a level PERFECTLY just to get one chance at one. And for a "rhythm platformer", sometimes the rhythm just isn't there, which if you're trying to make a rhythm platformer, is a HUGE problem!

This game's heart is in the right place; the soundtrack and visuals are nice to listen and to look at - there is heart and soul poured into this game - but someone decided to pour gasoline on that heart and soul and make one of the most gutturally frustrating games I've ever played. By the end, you never want to hear any of these songs again, never see these locales again, and NEVER see Commander Video's stupid little rectangle face again.

Play one of the newer RUNNER games, because this isn't as good as it gets, sadly. If you're on the fence about the game, take a swig of Everclear every time I say the word "same" in the third paragraph. You'll feel like I did. Broken, empty, and craving something better. Also maybe go see a doctor. That much Everclear can't be good for you.

A game like this NEEDS checkpoints or at least a practice mode similar to Geometry Dash. If bashing your head against a wall until something clicks doesn't sound fun to you, then give this one a pass.

I remember playing the demo for this game on the Wii with my sister, we would get competitive about who could beat a level first. It is extremely nostalgic and it holds up. Still super fun and addicting, if a little bit frustrating at times. Love this game.

The game can be a hassle, but I also really enjoyed it. The graphics mean you have to get used to where the obstacles start and end at first. But as in any game, it takes patience to get used to the hitboxes. The difficult levels can be a real challenge, but if you like the genre, it's more of an encouragement to complete the levels.

An exercise in frustration. This has one of the worst platformer level designs I've ever seen. There's difficulty just trying to make out the platforms and obstacles because the background and foreground blends together. While I do love a good challenge, the game is excessively punishing and expects you to play flawlessly or get thrown back to beginning of each stage. Seriously, who decided no checkpoints was a good idea? As others have recommended, give this one a miss.

Как бы странно это не звучало, но первая часть серии BIT.TRIP RUNNER - худшая из всех частей. И вот почему:
1. Некорректные хитбоксы объектов и персонажа, что очень нечестным образом затрудняет прохождение игры.
2. Отсутствие чекпоинтов на уровнях (во всех других частях они есть).
3. ЛВЛ-дизайн некоторых уровней заставит Ваш пукан гореть синим пламенем. Для лвл-дизайнера этой игры приготовлен отдельный котёл в аду походу)))
Указанные выше проблемы в совокупности делают прохождение игры неоправданно сложным, вне зависимости от выбранного уровня сложности. Крайне рекомендую к покупке вторую часть этой игры, ну или третью. Эту часть лучше обойти стороной.
P.S. В минусы это относить не стал, но всё же напишу: если играете на стим деке, то есть огромная вероятность того, что игра не запустится в принципе. У меня запустилась на Proton 9.0.2 по состоянию на июль 2024 года.

Old but gold, while this game may look short for some, the music along with the gradual difficulty and simple controls makes up for this gem of a game, trust me, you'll have a blast playing it.
