Played this game extensively both solo and in co op as a child on the PS2 and I hold many fond memories of this game. The port to PC seemed to play just fine and I ran into no major issues.

That being said this is a very old hack and slash game. It is doubtful to blow anyone away who has never played it before especially compared to modern day standards but if you can get this on a good sale or if you just want a trip down memory lane this is a fun one to go through.

Recommendations: Seems to be more fun with friends. Best played with controller. I played the Steam PC port on steam deck and had a good time.

Graphics and aesthetics: Pretty basic design. Nothing stuck out much to me too much. The cutscenes were amusing.

Gameplay: More fun with friends to co-op with. Enjoyable hack and slash through a bunch of dungeons.

Audio: It was pretty solid. Good soundtrack, one of the strongest points of the game.

Audience: Teen and up. Mostly just enemies exploding into low poly chunks or bits of blood. Somewhat revealing clothing. Officially rated T.

Difficulty: Pretty easy, you can make it through this on your own with ease.

Grind: Each area is pretty short but the combat can get a bit old halfway in. Remains fun regardless.

Story: This game is mostly focused on gameplay and has a pretty simple plot. What there was of a plot was neat.

Although I have only 5.3 hours on record, I used to play these game a lot as a kid on PS2.

There is still heavy nostalgia every time I start the game and enter the elf song tavern. I just remember playing through the game in coop with my friend during sleep overs. We always rented it and for some reason he could never save the progress so each time it was like we were playing a roguelike. I can still hear the trader saying, "swords, axes, bows. We have everything you need right here!"

It's an absolute classic of the ARPG genre and while I wouldn't say it is worth the price they are asking it is a good buy on sale. It is a good steam deck game.

Because I only played GBA version before, so I decide to buy the original game.

However, this version is too damned hard! Those green goo monsters in the sewer have killed me so many times. Now I stuck at Thieve's Guild. I have tried a lot of times to jump over round rocks.

The design of whole game is terrible. Even the easy mode is totally unacceptable.

Good old school hack and slash fun. Nothing super in depth to it, and has some challenge even on normal mode (at least for the sorceress).

Haven't played this since in years since it came out on PS2 and it's just as fun as I remembered. The leveling up system and saving up points for skills isn't my favorite, but it does feel rewarding when you finally get a big skill.

Game plays the same as it did back in the day. Enemies are tough, so block well or pick them off with range.

Price is pretty ridiculous, but at least it'll take you back to Nostalgia Lane... I leave it up to you on whether that alone is worth it or not.

Dark Alliance, j'avais ce jeu sur PS2 dans les années 2000. J'avais pris une claque graphique à l'époque, il était super beau. Casser les tonneaux, les vagues dans l'eau, et une super ambiance.

Y rejouer 20 ans plus tard ? Par nostalgie oui sans doute mais attention : la difficulté est super mal dosée. Le jeu est difficile en mode normal. Et l'économie du jeu est ratée : vous économisez pour vous acheter une arme qui sont très chères et inaccessibles (on ne peut pas farmer, il n'y a pas de repop des ennemis), les loots sont très avares et il y a des zones immenses d'ennemis qui débouchent sur des impasses sans récompense. Tout ça pour arriver à la fin du jeu où vous allez looter énormément d'armes puissantes et intéressantes mais que vous ne pourrez pas revendre car on ne plus revenir en arrière. Le boss final est très frustant et malgré le meilleur équipement du jeu il peut vous oneshot...

Un jeu avec beaucoup de défaut, donc la "remasterisation" sur PC est clairement inexistante : ça bave, c'est pas fluide, pas du tout adapté aux PC modernes et le prix est beaucoup trop élevé.

Je recommande par nostalgie mais autrement je ne vous le conseille vraiment pas, il existe des hack n Slash de bien meilleure qualité pour bien moins cher.

Looks like the price was raised from $29.99 to $39.99 on Steam alone. On Xbox, PlayStation, and even Epic Games the non-sale price is still $29.99. I thought Steam had a rule where a game can't be sold significantly cheaper on other platforms than on Steam. If that's the case, Valve should be made aware of this.

Other major issue is that while the Xbox, PlayStation, and even iOS versions have achievements, the PC version does not.

I loved this game back in the day, and still do. If it weren't for these two issues, I'd gladly recommend this. Unfortunately greed and incompetence stands in the way once again.

I enjoyed playing for the nostalgia. I enjoyed sharing it with my spouse, who hadn't played it before, and I hadn't played it since high school.

A tip for new players who want to grind easy experience very quickly: once you defeat the the crypt/orb in Act I, you can head back to the Elfsong Tavern. Save your game there, THEN talk to everyone who handed you a quest so far (assuming you've collected the tavern patrons' requested items) to get easy gold, extra items to sell, and about 1500 experience. Save to a new save slot. Reload the pre-completion file, import your character from the post-completion file, collect all the quest rewards again, and save over your post-completion save slot; rinse and repeat. Just be careful you're loading and saving over the correct files (if you accidentally save over your pre-completion file, as my spouse and I did, don't worry; it only took me some 45 minutes of play to get back to this point, once my character gained a few levels and picked up better weapons/armor). You'll be able to rack up skill points quickly and get past those painful first levels where it feels like every slime and spider is a major threat.

Das alte Spiel aus früheren Tagen zum Nostalgiefaktor ist noch immer ein Klassiker und macht riesen Spaß durch seine schöne Story, abwechslungsreiche Welten und Gegner. Trotz der veralteten Steuerung ist es ein Erlebnis.
Ich bin dankbar dafür, dass es auch auf PC portiert wurde, nach so langer Zeit, aber es ist eine Frechheit, so einen hohen Preis zu verlangen, ohne, dass die alten Bugs von früher behoben wurden, die es auch schon auf der Konsolenversion gab. Dazu haben sich, wahrscheinlich durch die Portierung, einige neue Bugs dazugesellt.
Die Portierung fand, meiner Meinung nach, aus reinen Nostalgiegründen statt, um damit Geld zu machen, ohne sich wirklich mit den Spielfehlern auseinander zu setzen.

I was obsessed with this as a kid, and now I get to binge through it on steam. Super simple, you one press spam magic/arrows or you run circles around mobs and spank them in the butt. There's not a whole lot to it just a very simple fun time.

If you're into baldur's gate and don't mind the old graphics I'd grab this on a sale. The combat is mostly just dumbed down to one button, so don't go into this expecting something deep.

If you don't have fond memories of the game from childhood and don't have friends to play, don't bother. The game is simply punishing to play solo. There's not a way to grind for levels, respec, or find more powerful magic items and come back later. That would be okay, but it's just so easy to get ganked by a few gnolls and end up their meal. I finally called it quits when the game expected me to solo frost giants that out of nowhere will either do zero damage, or 7/8ths of my health bar. Oh yeah, and I'm the sword-and-board dwarf fighter.

By far one of my favorite games from my childhood..

That said, there is absolutely nothing "Enhanced" about this game. It is somehow worse than the original as you need to tinker with your frame rate / vsync to even get it to run properly. By default the game is running at about 200x speed, which makes the game completely unplayable. The fact that this is a 20 year old game being pawned off on us for $30 is egregious on it's own, let alone with all the issues the game has.

Have sent my refund request and will instead be downloading a RoM of this game to get my fix..

This is advertised as an RPG. However after 5 levels or so it turns into a platformer game. So unless you are good at platform games (what are you doing buying an 'RPG'?) don't waste your money buying this. If you're not good at platform games then you'll only be able to play about 10% of the game.

I played this game back on the Playstation 2 Originally, (I'm 28 as a write this.) hence why I was able to beat it so fast, I love replaying this very long campaign starting from the sewers fighting giant rats, to fighting Imps and Orcs (they wear helmets) to fighting the Hordes of the Undead in the Crypt, but then you go back to the sewer and fight the thieves guild which doesnt sound that impressive but this is a Fantasy RPG so its like the mafia but rooms with traps you have to travel through, Rotating eyes that if they see you kill you instantly, and the thieves guild is spoilers led by a giant floating demon head with many eyes, and then it turns out that was just chapter 1.... after this there is two other chapters when you have to travel through the mountains fighting hyena men (i forgot there names Gnolls?) and mountain trolls which through boulders, then you go into town and travel into the snowier cold mountains its this beautiful transition from more foresty areas to snow appearing to the higher you climb the snowier it gets until you are in top of a snowy icey mountain fighting lighting balls, (yes there elementals) and there is a giant ice dragon boss at the very end i believe, and when i say giant i mean like dinosaur size bot kaiju size which makes sense this is only chapter 2 (act II) i wont spoil the rest but you have to travel into swamps after going down the mountain, you also have to traverese all three levels of the onyx tower plus fight a final box this is a an amazing campaign, back before we had online and just had the game and the console and lots of free time as a kid this is a good ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game, i would love another super super long offlien campaign like this where im just leveling up my character fighting enemy after enemy and its based on D&D so its super balanced gameplay wise and super lore heavy which just makes the super super long campaign thats much more enjoyable. starting from zero to saving the entire city from a thieves guild that really works for another evil organization so its written well for the most part and just an amazing game to play alone or with a friend in Co-op sitting next to you on the couch, like the good old days.

Excellent jeu à l'époque que j'avais fini sur Xbox ! Mais malheureusement sur Steam le prix de 30 € pour un jeu qui a 20 ans c'est un grand NON. Il ne mérite pas plus de 5 € (qui plus est plus mis à jour, et plus pris en charge par le support du jeu).

Pour ma part aussi, et pour d'autres que j'ai pu voir dans les avis le jeu met du temps à se lancer et une fois lancé il y a un énorme bug graphique avec des rayures vertes, ce qui est strictement impossible à jouer.

Conclusion : Ressortez votre vieille console avec ce jeu et ce sera un banger ! Mais ne venais pas l'acheter sur PC en 2025.

Fun game, tons of nostalgia for the PS2 version that I played when I was younger. Runs well on Steam Deck, is a little touchy on PC (it really wants to be full screened), but performance is OK. Weird controls for Keyboard and mouse, begs to be played on controller.

I bought this to swap between my steam deck and PC, and for some reason, they disabled cross-plat cloud saves. That is really frustrating and if you're looking for the same, I would recommend against picking it up.

Very good game, even if it's a port from a very old Playstation 2 game. It's nice to play it on modern systems, with 4K support. I could only get it to run in 60 fps, though. Maybe there's a way to up it to 120, but 60 is still pretty good. The game is pretty challenging, although (as a melee character) you can kill tough enemies by just running around them in a circle and slashing them as they turn. The ending kinda sucks, too, because you have to use a special sword to kill the final boss, so it makes being a ranged character feel powerless at the end. Playing with a friend through remote play together is fun, except if one dies, the other player can't bring him back to life. You have to reload a saved game to get back in. One of my friends played with me and we found a really cool strategy when fighting ranged opponents: have one player character stand in front of the other, holding block, and then have the other ranged PC just fire arrows or spells right through him. It was a ton of hilarious fun when we discovered this method of killing ranged bad guys. The gauntlet, an optional timed challenge that allows you to unlock another character, was way too hard, even for me. Fortunately, you can enable the invincibility cheat and unlock him much more easily. However, you still have to complete the game on the hardest difficulty before you can use him. In closing, this game is pretty darn good, even if the graphics aren't. I'd give it an 8/10.

Una verdadera reliquia. Totalmente recomendable comprar este con su segunda parte, el Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II, buenísimo también (para mi gusto mucho mejor que el primero porque le incluyen mucha más personalización de personaje). Deben ir juntos. La historia es directamente continuada. Han envejecido bien, yo los jugué por primera vez en PS2 y les tengo un cariño especial. Es una pena que no le hayan metido logros a la primera entrega (el Dark Alliance II sí que tiene). Jugar ambas entregas en cooperativo no tiene precio, aún recuerdo felizmente cuando me los pasaba de pequeño descubriendo todos los secretos del juego con mi hermano.

I got this game because I really wanted to see how it was going to run and play on PC. It had some pretty bad bugs, The game would open on whatever monitor I clicked play on in steam, (kind of annoying). I COULD NOT get rumble for controllers working (tried every trick {disabling steam input, tried multiple controllers, etc..}) The game also would run sped up at an incredible high fps sometimes, everything in the game was sped up about 4x..

After all that trouble, I just had to refund the game. I did SORT OF want to keep playing it, but with all those bugs, plus the 24 dollar (on sale) price, I just had to refund it. The game is not worth 30, (or even 24 on sale) dollars, I would maybe buy this game again for 15 dollars max, but it isnt worth the price its at now, sadly.

this is gonna sound like a knock against the game but they didn't account for higher refresh rates so if you play this game at 120hz uncapped you be zooming.

K, this... Is going to be hard to explain to our younger audience. See, nowadays, pretty much everything is made with consoles in mind. Or at least gamepad. Back in the days? Back in the days, it was a totally different story. Due to hardware differences and other factors (like the old gamepad being way more limited than what we have today), porting things from personal computers was a pretty complicated task. Impossible even in many cases. And vice versa, those games that were made with certain console in mind, usually arrived at PCs in a form that... Well, let's just say the word “port” used to be infamous among PC mustard race. Still is, even though what we have today is nothing but an echo of the old disaster we used to have. And it wasn't just one generation. It was like that until, believe it or not, seventh generation of consoles. Sure, some ports were good. Some were downright brilliant, like that [b]Morrowind[/b] port to [b]Xbox[/b], which used to secretly reboot your console on background in order to save memory. Or [b]id Software[/b]'s [b]DOOM[/b] for [b]Jaguar[/b] that used system's sound coprocessor in order to boost visuals (while scrapping the music completely). But most of the time? Yea-a-ah... It was bad. Thanks to all that, PC and console audiences ended up evolving in their own unique environments. Moreover, they kinda hated each other. With passion.

The truth is, though, deep down both audiences just wanted games. And the whole “my system have this, while yours doesn't!” thing was just that – an envy. It was all about that childish defense mechanism that used to make kids argue because they were unable to have everything. Nowadays, there's close to no titles to make you seriously want more than one system. Back in the days? PC crowd wanted [b]Zelda[/b] and [b]Xenogears[/b], while console guys... Well, they wanted [b]Fallout[/b] and [b]Baldur's Gate[/b]. I mean, those two were [i]the[/i] biggest name on RPG market back in the days. Every single magazine (remember the times when cell phones were a luxury and people were reading printed media?) covered those and both press and the actual players [i]loved[/i] 'em. And while big [b]N[/b] and [b]Square[/b] were skeptical about PC market, [b]Interplay[/b] did want to deliver. The problem was... how? [b]Baldur's Gate[/b] was a long and complicated mouse-oriented CRPG with tons of dialogues. And while mouse problem was somewhat solvable (even though mouse accessory for [b]PlayStation[/b] was not successful and most of us didn't even know that [b]PS2[/b] version existed, analog sticks were an OK replacement), the amount of text? The amount of text pretty much killed the whole idea. Again, nowadays we have those huge TV screens which, in many ways, are identical to PC monitors and can totally be used as such. Back in [b]PS2[/b] times, many still used CRT TVs, while by default consoles came with those crappy RCA connectors, which made even the big letters hard to read. Again, hence the evolution of console games. Lack of text in 'em specifically. Still, people wanted [b]Baldur's Gate[/b]. And [b]Interplay[/b]? They found a simple solution – to sell people the name. Let's make a totally different game and call it [b]Baldur's Gate[/b]. In a way, it was like buying a toy phone to your little kid who isn't big enough to know the difference, but is already trying to imitate parents. Well, what can I say? Please welcome – [b]Dark Alliance[/b].

I'm making this game to look bad right away, but the thing is, it doesn't feel bad. At least, it did not back in 2001. It sure looked way better than most of the titles on PC (like, it had advanced female breasts and water physics [i]and[/i] there was a scene, in which villain actually took their helmet off, something we didn't see even in coolest-looking games like [b]Deus Ex[/b], [b]Anachronox[/b] and [b]Gothic[/b]) and with the power of DVD behind it, [b]Dark Alliance[/b] was able to afford things like animated background in main menu. Moreover, it actually bothered to introduce some fresh ideas. Like pretty much every fantasy game has some of them explosive barrels, right? But in this game some enemies can actually pick those up and attack you with them. And yes, it was impressive. It was 2001, remember? More importantly, though, it was a co-op oriented game. No online, unfortunately (a spiritual successor from the same team called [b]Champions of Norrath[/b] will change that), but hey! It was still time people actually played split screen. And for what it is? [b]Dark Alliance[/b] did a fine job.

I mean, yes. Instead of [b]Baldur's Gate[/b], they gave us [b]Diablo[/b]. Like in [b]Diablo[/b], we've got three pre-made characters (warrior, archer and spellcaster, of course), we've got dungeons to clear, we've got that easily recognizable map, we've got town portal... You've got the idea. This here is a console-oriented [b]Diablo[/b] with split-screen. When you compare it with the original [b]Baldur's Gate[/b]? It's hard not to feel disappointed, yes. I mean, there's no variety, there's no choice (you will be able to say no at times, but it'll only mean you'll need to say yes later), you can't be evil (the story is 100% linear) and, the worst of all, they've scrapped most of the [b]D&D[/b] thing. While the original game was pretty much tabletop with CRPG on top, this? This here doesn't even mention dice anywhere. Still, it was fun to play with a friend. Back in the days. Now?

Well, that's the saddest part. This game didn't age well at all. Back in the days, it was easy to forgive it because it looked good. Now, when visuals look dated? All the original problems become obvious. And let me tell you, those are annoying as heck. First of all, dungeons here are not random. Which, of course, makes a [i]huge[/i] impact on replayability. Especially since town portal thing sucks and you'll need to walk a lot (you can quick travel to town, but there's no way to get back where you were). What's even worse is that enemies won't respawn. You cleared the dungeon? You're done. And it's even worse than you think because aside from other things? This game is terribly balanced. Like in the first [b]Diablo[/b], the spellcaster is OP. Kinda sucks at the early stages, but when you get the right spells? You're unstoppable. Same thing here, with one giant “but” – the final boss is immune to those spells. Ba-dum-tss... Remember, no way to go back and grind for something else. You chose poorly? You're screwed. May I ask who thought that it's a good idea? Sure, there are some tricks and even in-built cheats, but come on! Seriously? That (and many other things) makes the game to feel cheap.

Another popular complain is that this here is just a basic port from the [b]Xbox[/b] (there are some minor visual differences to give you a hint about the origins). True. Aside from the resolution, there aren't even PC-oriented settings here (ah, the irony...). Makes it feel like you're using the emulator. But you know what? I don't have problem with that. Games preservation is important and personally? I won't mind having the whole [b]PS2[/b] / [b]Xbox[/b] / [b]GameCube[/b] libraries added to [b]Steam[/b] this way. But again, there's a “but”. No idea how they've managed to do that, but they've messed up rumble feedback. Not that important you may say? Well, yeah. It's just a rumble. But personally, I love such stuff and therefore can't help but feel disappointed. Just because I paid for a new copy of the game I already had and... It has less features. Well, technically rumble is still there and you can turn it on and off in the menu, it just... Doesn't work. No idea why. And again, I can still use my old disc with an emulator. With the better result. So... Yeah. An arguable release of an arguable game. Still, I'm glad they've added it to [b]Steam[/b]. But yeah. Doesn't mean I can recommend it. Dixi.

this is a great dungeon crawler style game that comes from the world of baldurs gate, this games plays in the same style world but in a different time line and story i enjoy it more for the fact that this game is free roam so its not turn based although it is less rp based than the new games it brings a great view of baldurs gate from the same place in a different style of gameplay 100% worth the risk to play

One of my favorite games of all time. I used to play this on PS2 and probably put well over 1,000 hours into it then getting the 3 main characters to level 40, no cheats. Ball lightning is so overpowered but so dang fun. This game is a timeless classic and my kids love playing it with me now. I appreciate the 2-player capability, I can just plug in my old USB corded 360 controllers and it works great!

Beat it in about 13 hours time frame. Feel happy about the story. The only bad thing I have to say is that the purchasing doesn't feel the same as on the GBA. Use a rom, play it there after trying this. Neverthless, I enjoyed it, reminded me on Runescape. 10/10
