Storyline

The game takes place in the "dark fairy tale" Kingdom of Armello, a world filled with anthropomorphic animals separated into numerous clans. When the current king becomes corrupted by a dark force called the Rot, representatives from these factions rise up to embark on a journey to become the new king or queen in his stead.

It's quite an engaging digital tabletop experience with rpg elements. I've played the mobile version readily for about 6 years and I finally got the pc version on a steam sale. The UI with controller was a great surprise, there's alternate cards available, and the 4 new dragon clan chars are interesting to try out. The artwork is beautiful with the animated cards, different dice skins to unlock, and the four seasonal board themes. Lisa Gerrard from the gladiator soundtrack contributes a wonderful voice. The four person multiplayer match can be a blast but the Armello LFP discord channel may be necessary to shorten the sometimes lengthy que time. The bundle is a steal on steam sale but worth full price for those into well crafted digital board games.

Yeah...2026...late to the party. I bought the game on sale just to try it out, and now, after three hours, I still can't stop playing. It's the most beautiful fun pc boardgame, even though I'm probably terrible at it. Playing it on openSUSE Tumbleweed.

This game is allergic to giving you information.

Obscuring visuals, tons of stealth, hidden opponent quests, hidden perils, hidden opponent hands, information buried the depths of the UI; you name it, this game goes out of its way to hide it. Hidden information in games is a perfectly legitimate game mechanic, of course, but the problem here is that 'hiding stuff' goes from being an interesting mechanic to an intrusive theme that permeates this whole game like the Rot.

You can't even tell at a glance who has the highest score at any given time without digging deep into the UI. It's there, but it tries to make getting that information as painful as possible for some reason.
Even the camera hides things! Try to zoom out and the game is obscured with clouds. Try to follow the action with the camera and it will keep disabling your ability to do that.

It's so bad that I started to feel deeply thankful that I'm blessed with the privilege of being able to see how much gold I have without having to click into 2 menus first, so thanks for that, devs.
This game bakes that "tunnel vision" concept into every facet of its design, and you really have to be okay with that because it will pop up somewhere in the game every handful of seconds to remind you how much the game refuses to show you, despite the fact that it mechanically is "technically okay" with showing you. This game is like that kid on the playground who 'can't get in trouble because he's technically not touching you': It gives you a board full of information, then just keeps yanking that information away using everything but the actual rules of the game to hide that information from you. I'm allowed to watch my opponent move, but the camera won't let me watch the opponent move. I'm allowed to see everyone's score, but the game hides it behind countless menus and clicks. I'm allowed to see how many cards my opponents have, but that information is behind countless more menus and clicks. This kind of thing just happens all over the game.

It's one thing if a game is designed around hiding this information, but that's not the case here. We are intended to have access to this information, yet the game does everything in its power to prevent us from getting that information. It's truly bizarre.

This has serious gameplay ramifications, too: Since getting the information I'm supposed to have is so hard, I have to make decisions with less information than the mechanics intend me to make decisions with. This means I'm often under-informed and lack the ability to make good decisions, thereby undermining much of the strategy of this strategy game.

What's particularly infuriating is that the board isn't that big. It would probably be practical to have the entire board viewable on one screen, or close to it, but this game would rather try to get you to feel like you're playing a 3rd person adventure game than actually being remotely practical. In other words, this game constantly sacrifices playability for 'style' and that comes at a massive cost.

This game could easily feel and play so slick with just some minor camera and UI tweaks - that's the tragedy here. But there is a conscious design decision for the game to be like this, and it seriously hurts the experience.

Accept it anyway, and there's a fun game buried under all that obfuscation. I just hope you brought your foglights and a lot of tolerance for wasting time, resetting cameras, and making poorly-informed decisions.
I really like this game, but I have to call out these very real problems.

Unfassbar gutes Spiel.. eine Kombination von Siedler von Catan und Fantasy // Märchen - nur eben mit antropomorphen Tieren als Helden. Kreativ. Spannend. So sieht gutes Gamedesign aus.. und das, obwohl Armello bereits zehn Jahre alt ist <3

Leider leidet Armello an einer extrem geringen Spielerzahl, welche das Finden von Multiplayerlobbies fast unmöglich macht. Im inoffiziellen Armello Discord findet man jedoch eine äußerst loyale Community und somit auch regelmäßig vollständige Lobbies und das eine oder andere (Mini-)Turnier :)

However, beware. If games of luck irritate you like they do me, steer clear. Sure, you can play it safe and go for a prestige win. If you like to actually TRY though, it's totally randomized. Good luck (literally).

[h1]Fantastic Party Game[/h1]

Armello is a fantastic game to play with friends if you've got a half hour to spare with them. Its a classic board game that never quite gets old. As you unlock various rings and experiment with new character abilities, you can manage to find some exciting, interactive, and borderline broken card combos if you get lucky enough. The hex-based tiling caught my attention immediately given how reminiscent it was of Heroscape. You may not build the board, but it's random every time you launch a new game which can make for great fun.

[h2]Good Gameplay[/h2]

The game plays quite nicely and the ai singleplayer feature makes grinding out achievements very smooth. Saving a game state and then save scrubbing to help you get the niche and more conditional achievements was something I figured out how to do later on, but even well before then I was able to get the majority of them just by playing casually with friends and trying out all the new characters. I personally fell in love with River, Brun, and everybody from the Bandit Clan DLC. Each character had a unique ability that didn't overcomplicate the game in any way that I could personally observe. Now that said some interactions or character builds are significantly stronger for others which can make inexperienced players perhaps a little frustrated in a multiplayer lobby. But never in my time playing the game did I feel as though "there was no way I could come back from this." The rot mechanic offers a great alternative to power for those who give into the dark side~ And the prestige mechanic makes for a great objective that incentivize players to fight one another on their scrawl for victory. All and all, the game is very exceptionally put together and obviously play-tested to double down on ensuring you get the best digital board game experience.

[h2]In Game Lore[/h2]

As someone who enjoys a good story, I absolutely adore the careful, deliberate wording in the card's flavor text that's but a minor detail which breathes life into the world they've created. There are also short stories about every clan under the collection tab of the menu as well which you don't see a lot of games feature. Everything was well crafted and quite thoroughly decided upon which is a finer detail that i greatly appreciate.

[h2]Conclusion[/h2]

If you have friends that enjoy board games this title is a must have. Encourage your friends to get it on sale if they can, but even if you just want to try it out for yourself on your own it's got a relatively alright multiplayer scene as well. I'm confident there are communities you can join if you really want a player behind the wheel, but even if you didn't, the AI does quite well for itself. I personally don't mind playing alone, but this title as a whole is significantly more enjoyable with friends..

Funktioniert unter Windows 10 technisch gesehen so eher mittelprächtig. Bei einer 1440p Auflösung bleibt ein großer Teil des Bildschirms ungenutzt, außerdem kommt es zu Anzeigefehlern.

На этом обзоре завершен мой путь в этой игре. Грустно прощаться но очень маленький онлайн портит все прекрасное что есть в этой игре. Еще и в те редкие случаи когда найдется пати редко досиживают до конца игры.
Это было удивительно, красиво и эмоционально. Эта игра дарила невероятные ситуации с друзьями, невероятные подставы и истинный триумф.

Honestly a really fun game it runs great it perfect for the family or with friends the only downside is the multiplayer community is small but there is cross play so you can still find matches but it can take up too a couple of mins to find but i still do sometime find matches within 30sec ...in my personal opinion this game community is only small because of the timing the game was released cross play was a rare thing to see so the game didn't receive it in till much later in it life span....if you see this game on sale buy it and enjoy you won't regret it. it evens has a single player mode

worth it if you want to play alone or with friends, avoid public lobbies: you'll often have a couple strangers that are friends playing together teaming against you, or the host will disconnect when they aren't winning by a landslide. cute art though. wish i could leave a neutral review.

I love this game! My partner got it for me to play with him on evenings where we want to just have a good casual competition of animals "saving" the kingdom! Because of how much I loved playing I bought all the character DLCs (bandit first obvs, foxes rule!). -- The soft lore, the artwork, the mechanics all make this game truely worth the money and I'm even going to buy it for some friends!

Your average* session of Armello will go something like this...

• Whatever win condition you are currently going for, you are not allowed to have it.
• All the randomly placed perils are inexplicably on the path to your next quest.
• Against all odds, a win condition drops into your lap.
• The turn before the game ends, that condition gets snatched away. It is too late to pivot.
• All your friends are mad at you for screwing them over, despite having gotten closer to winning than you. This includes the player who actually won.

Furry Friendship Destroyer gets 5/5 symbols that definitely matched the peril, but the game decided that's not actually what you rolled.

Множинні ігрові механіки легко зрозумілі, однак цікавим чином взаємодіють між собою, породжуючи чисельні можливості для різних стратегій та умов перемоги. Дуже приємна візуальна та музична складова. Ігрова сесія триває до години часу.
Декілька зауважень. Дивним чином реалізований пошук сесії, оскільки він не відбувається на фоні, і гравець змушений дивитися у порожній екран, аби не пропустити вікна "готовий". Також, зважаючи на вік гри, не завжди вдається за виправданий час знайти сесію із випадковими учасниками - легше зібрати своїх друзів та запустити гру з комп'ютерним суперником.

I received this game as a gift to play with my friend group. I like the concept, the art, everything, I hate the netplay. Its terribly unstable, and feels like an afterthought to go along with everything. If the netplay was better, I'd be a positive review. I will continue to play it with my friends and I'll enjoy it as much as possible.

я играю в эту игру с 2016 года
и у меня вполне могло быть больше 58 часов проведенных в ней за 10 лет, но игра не давала и до сих пор не дает мне ей насладиться. это хорошая игра но это мертвый сервис и мертвые разрабы.

я и половина моих друзей не могут присоединиться или создать лобби еще с 2018 года
проблема известная и практически не решаемая для пк и виндовс
если вы счасливый обладатель стимдека попробуйте запустить лобби с него. не гарантирую, но работает.

если вы играете в одиночку то ваш прогресс может быть спокойно сброше по окончании катки разрывом подключения к серверу. да в одиночной компании.

зайдите в сообщество игры и почитайте сотни постов оставленых без ответа от наивных людей что купили игру и думали что получат ответ или решение от разработчиков. там очень много проблем.
почитайте пост разработчиков от 2022 года о том что они прекращают поддержку игры апдейтами и контентом.

наконец загуглите статью на PC Gamer от 2024года - Armello studio League of Geeks is 'going into hibernation for the foreseeable future' and may not be back
где говорится что студия League of Geeks, объявила о переходе в режим «спячки» на неопределенный срок, и не факт, что когда-нибудь возобновит работу. как раз после выхода игры Solium Infernum в 24м. провал игры добил студию окончательно.

и я даже не хочу говорить о том через что прошло комьюнити этой игры за эти 10 лет. про баги которые не фиксились годами и введение лутбоксов и ключей как в небезизвестных играх Габена, вылеты, лагающие броски кубиков и тд. это все ПУСТЯКИ.

и я дествительно люблю эту игру, это уникальная диджитал настолка с крутыми механниками и персонажами. и я благодарен разрабам, что они буквально на последнем издыхании тянут серваки этой игры уже несколько лет, чтобы хоть какие то счастливчики могли в нее поиграть. Но если разрабы не передадут сетевой код комьюнити или не сделают возможность самим хостить лобби, боюсь в скором времени эта игра станет просто историей.

а разрабы наврят ли уже что то сделают...

Seems like a neat game but I'm not sure I can recommend it.

For a fairly well reviewed title, that's been sitting on my periphery of games that look interesting enough to try, I'm pretty disappointed after my brief introductory playthrough.
The game seems to be in state of technical decay. I crashed 4 times just trying to play through the tutorial.
Graphical options are limited, a lesser issue, as the game is toaster friendly.

Playing games rewarded me with chests which spat out a 'Failed to connect to server' error whenever I attempted to open one. And it would seem Multiplayer Matchmaking is either dead or requires a blood ritual by moonlight to connect.

Something that bothered me was the visual clarity. Normally for this type of game you want to zoom out and get a good idea of the state of the board. However the zoom is quite limited, forcing you to drag the board around often to see what is happening, but there is also the baffling decision to blanket the screen in a horrible white fog which obscures clarity further!
Yes, it's 'clouds' but it's also ugly and annoying, and can't be turned off through normal means.

There is a Follow Player camera that should be helpful for assessing the situation and yet it felt in-elegant. Whenever you drag the board around, and you will due to the issue mentioned above, the auto-follow disables. You have to then click a little icon to turn it back on (or possible hit some hotkey).

Stealth is a mechanic of the game and player characters often engage in it. Naturally the camera shouldn't follow a stealthy boy but then you are once again dragging the board around to survey and think your next move. The auto-follow disables and once more you must turn it on. It really starts to add up how often you must do this and I can't help but think there was a better way to implement the feature.

That's a bit of a giga-nitpick, I imagine for players familiar with the game they don't care about the auto-follow at all. But my point is it speaks to the certain lack of polish I felt from the game. Maybe my standards are unrealistically high but for a product so well reviewed and matured I was prepared for a smoother first taste than I got.

I will say I really like the art, the music is enjoyable and fitting, it's easy to pick up and learn the basics with clear amount of depth to dig into, and games are quick (relatively) which is a bonus. Multiplayer board games which let you ruin your opponent's day and break friendships apart are one of my favourite genres.
And the game was dirt cheap on sale!

Прекрасная игра, но будь проклят тот, кто придумал карту Незнакомца. Чтоб тебе подобные карты во всех играх выпадали! Мне КАЖДУЮ партию выпадает этот напарник и лишает меня ходов, потому что постоянно кидает меня на локации, где меня убивают. Ненавижу эту чёртову карту!

I used to play this game a lot on my XBox with my friends when it came out with its first DLC! My potato of a laptop still lags a bit with the game but it is a really fun tabletop-esc game :)
I personally really love the Rivals pack the best out of the DLCs, but all of them bring new play styles which is awesome.

Experience bug macht die Langlebigkeit des Spiels zunichte. Man erhält grundlos keine Exp mehr und kann seine Charaktere nicht lvln. Bug ist seit Jahren bekannt und wurde nie gefixed. Cashgrab über teure DLCs für die Entwickler, während essentielle bugs nicht bearbeitet wurden.

Игра понравилась, да очень сильно понравилась! Только постоянные вылеты из сетевой игры без возможности подключиться это сюр. Что разрабам мешает добавить кнопку "переподключиться"? Ну просто охота поиграть в игру но невозможно! Надеюсь деньги за игру получится вернуть......

I've always played Armello mostly in single player mode and I still find it fun and charming. It is really easy to win in single player mode, but I don't mind winning :D RNG can be sometimes frustrating but that's just the nature of dice based combat systems. Big recommend! Armello is one of the few games in my library that I keep coming back to year after year.

Great Game, Dead Online
Armello is an amazing and unique game with beautiful art and solid mechanics. It’s genuinely fun and well designed.
Unfortunately, online matchmaking is basically unplayable. If you don’t have friends to play with, it’s a rough experience. That said, if you have three other friends, I definitely recommend this game. It shines in private matches.

Honestly? Out of all of the tabletop games I've ever played? This game has consistently earned nothing but my sheer contempt and hatred.

How this game ever released from beta in this horrid state is beyond my comprehension. The game balance is awful--like the entire game is RNG-based and after playing like 10 games in a row where you tend to lose 90% of all contests? Perils are just death. Period. Unless you're playing one of the 'meta' heroes, don't even bother.

The Stranger? Sorry, devs, but someone should slap you across the face for designing that system and that card entirely.

The entire game is based on RNG with low hit points, a low timer, and with the PvP aspect designed to screw you over more than help you unless you're playing one of the broken 'meta' heroes.

This game gets a -100 out of 10 from me. I'd sooner touch Dragon Age: Veilguard before I'll ever touch this waste of computer space ever again.

And don't get me started on the 'level' system where you have to play an absolute TON of games just to get the perks you need in order to play. I've never been able to get past the first few levels because I'm just DONE with this badly designed piece of slop just ruining my day. An entire run gets ruined with just -one- bad roll of random luck.

Yeah, sorry. Give this game a pass. Even if this game was on a 99% off sell or selling for $0.01 I'd still tell you to pass it. There are better board games out there and better ways to spend your time. This game is getting junked and sent to my 'Never Install' category of games. I regret every single penny I spent on this garbage game.

The game itself is great, but why on earth the system around it is designed like that?

1. Nothing to do while match making and need to be quick to click "Ready"

I have been playing this game on mobile for a good few years, and I can't fathom why on earth the mobile version allow single player play while waiting, but in better, prettier PC version, I have to stare at match making menu. When 4 players are finally matched together, everyone have 30 seconds to "accept" their match invitation. Because this game is way past its prime, the match making can take a while. And by simply leaving the screen for a quick drink or something can cause me to miss the "accept" prompt. As a punishment for playing this dying game I paid for, I got banned from online play for 60 seconds. Well, no problem. I will just head to Offline play... And the "play" button on Offline play just disappeared?

2. Can't see the entire board. Awkward camera.

Who in the right mind design a board game that, when player zoomed out to see the whole situation and positioning, the clouds obscure the view? Zooming out already cause everything to be smaller, now clouds?

Certain action "lock" and "unlock" camera. When an opposing player move, the camera got yanked to them. This is very useful to observe the opposing player gameplay, but it can happen when I am trying to play cards to tiles or other inactive players. Every time the camera follow a player, the FOV resets. It can cause me to waste what little time I had to unlock camera, zoom out again, drag my POV to desired tile. Good luck trying to play card to the next player, because the active player may choose to end turn quick and player characters can't be targeted by card on their turn.

It is a good game but feels like a down grade to playing actual physical board game in any way.

This game holds a special place in my heart. I've played it ages ago a lot and now I'm playing it again. It saddens me that League of Geeks has no plans to continue adding more to it as, despite being amazing as is, content drops could always be welcome to the dwindling community that still plays this.

Maybe one day they decide to revert their decision and we will get more added to the game, honestly it would be a wish come true.

Как я мог скипать эту великолепную игру 11 лет?!) Онлайна в ней конечно сейчас уже нет, но с друзьями это просто шедевр. Персонажи из DLC, кстати, будут доступны всем друзьям в лобби, если есть хотя бы у одного.

А, стоп, отмена! в этой помойке нет возможности реконнекта к игре.. что же, видно, разработчики были ограничены технологиями нашего времени... этот кусок кала показал мнее чёрный экран после полуторачасовой партии на последних ходах... gj,gj... Зато есть гача с ублюдочными кубиками)

"Perfect game that I don't wanna play"
Game is great depth, art style, strategy. It really is great.
But few things ruin ALL fun for me:
1) Turns are long. Time between your turns may feel like etternity. I appreciate when you are able to make your turn simultaneously.
2) When you are killed -- it's almost impossible to get back to throne area.
3) HP of heroes are low and some just die from 2 spells.

AND I believe that game is worth your time. Try and see yourself!

if you like medieval based games and tabletop games then you will like it. and most of the characters have a back story about them that makes it more interesting.
I really like how the game is designed and the fact you get to deal with many things that make it more intriguing to play. I am glad I got this game and its even more fun to play with friends.

Great digital tabletop experience. Fun singleplayer although I assume it would shine multiplayer (if anyone was playing it...). The ability to create custom ruled games also helps cater to different tastes (some prefer longer matches).

The DLCs had much more variety to the game if playing single player but ultimately you should wait for a big sale to get everything, with the multiplayer basically dead it isn't worth the full price tag.
