Alien Arena is a furious frag fest with arenas ranging from the small, to the massive. With game modes such as Capture The Flag and Tactical, there are terrific team-based experiences to be had as well as 1v1 duels, free-for-all, and dozens of mutators to alter the game play to your liking.

Arena FPS with martians and evil robots. Gameplay is similar to Quake 3 Arena with game modes like deathmatch, capture the flag, team deathmatch, etc. Different type of weapons for different occasion - minigun, shotgun, railgun, rocket launcher, grenade launcher shooting cocoons and such. Mostly it's mindless shooting spree but generally works fine. Servers are available but no players can be found. Overall poor man's replacement for old Quake or Unreal Tournament.

Had the game from Linux Format magazine series in maybe 2008 or 2009,mum bought it for me as present,idk the steam version is kinda different from the dvd back then,ok has some bugs,bot-player spawn in the same spot if the bots are many at the map and some crashes on launches sometimes from even its old peek days..NEVER has the blessing play online to critique..
The good things:
-For a game of 20+ YEARS the performance on a mid gtx3060 card is great
-So many models and colors to select
-MAPS ARE GREAT FOR ITS TIME....Minor gliches
-Many guns and always 2 ways to shoot
-Lovely extra boost on some levels
-Developers have it FREE all that years
-The idea of the project is so good it need someday a game like it
-Great music and cool gun sounds

Alien Arena: Warriors Of Mars is a dead PvP game. Why did it fail?
[i]Almost every PvP exclusive game on Steam fails.[/i] Only a tiny proportion of them "go viral". This game failed for many of the same reasons those others fail. The chief of which is the developer thinking that their game will "go viral" without actually creating any reason for it do so.
Competition amongst PvP centric games is extreme, and there's only a finite player base to appeal to. This game failed to reach any kind of critical mass and died as a result. Let's go into some of the reasons this particular game failed to appeal to gamers, despite the zero up front cost.
First and foremost, there's no meaningful single player content. The developer gambled that other players would be an acceptable substitute for adding storytelling, level design etc to the game. They lost that bet.
Without a huge community of players or single player content to add a lasting value to the game, the game dies.
Developers must learn that other players are not an acceptable substitute for adding content to a game.
This is a poorly made and painfully average PvP arena shooter... the developers seemed to think making a lot of maps would make players materialize out of, well, somewhere... but it doesn't work that way.
The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here.
It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $10 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product.
Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it?
Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.

Blocks keys like Windows/Meta, Alt+Tab, Ctrl - tabbing out/in, going to desktop not possible.
If this game is launched in background, you see the desktop but can't do anything there as Alien Arena grabs all key and mouse events.
Reboot computer a few times now to get this game closed or make desktop appear again.
Uninstalled. No other game has such issues.
Don't grab alt/ctrl/windows keys/modifiers.

'Ol reliable in terms of arena shooters. Good first fps for beginners or if you find yourself longing for a simpler era of shooter, I'm not sure if the games charm will appeal to many others since this isn't fortnite/CoD/Valerant or any of the other bloated service "games". I've been playing alien arena for a long time and despite some bugs in the menu I've had I think this could be considered the definitive edition.

Alien Arena: Warriors of Mars is like an inferior version of Unreal Tournament. I’d rather play Unreal Tournament, but Alien Arena is not a bad compromise. Alien Arena has some flaws, but the core gameplay is smooth and well executed. Unfortunately, there are too few players at the moment for me to make a proper assessment of the game.
Positive:
- The graphics are clearly not spectacular for today’s standards, but they are decent. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the details included. At the very least, the graphics did not distract me from the gameplay.
- Very smooth/fluid aiming and movement for a first-person shooter. No complaints on this front.
- Quite a variety of of weapons (10 in total I believe), some of which even have an alternative fire.
- As far as I can tell, there are three game modes: deathmatch, capture the flag, and tactical bloodbath. I would have liked an in game tutorial to better understand how tactical bloodbath works. Deathmatch and capture the flag were straight forward.
Negative:
- The biggest issue at the moment is that there are no players. It’s very difficult to play/judge an online FPS if you’re only playing against bots. I will revisit this game after some time, so I can make a reassessment.
- Maps need a better design. I’ve tried a few capture the flag maps and I’ve noticed that there is usually only one path you can take to capture the flag. I find that this makes flag attacking/defending very linear and predictable. More routes would make the game feel more dynamic. Also it would be nice if some larger maps were made. All the maps I played on felt incredibly small for the player limit.
- There are plenty of small things that can be improved:
1. I wish there was some kind of indicator to show when the round will end. I don’t know if it’s on a timer or if the win condition is reaching a certain score. In deathmatch you get an announcement with 3 frags are left, but I’d like to know the score limit before that.
2. Spawn locations need to be better defined. It only happened once, but I spawned right next the enemy flag. This is unacceptable. The developer found and fixed the spawn bug quickly. Props to you.
3. The map vote at the end of a match can be made more user friendly. For example, you can show an image of each map, so the player has a better idea of what he’s voting for.
4. Achievements only unlock when I close the game. This issue can probably be easily fixed.
- This game doesn’t add anything new. Like I said before, I’d rather play Unreal Tournament. I want Aliena Arena to have its own identity, something that makes it stand out from other games (besides it being about aliens). There is definitely room for improvement.
Conclusion:
Despite my criticisms, I quite like Alien Arena. The FPS gameplay is solid, but there are bits and pieces that must be upgraded to improve the overall quality of the game. I will revisit this game when the player base has grown a little. I don’t want to give a definitive recommendation just yet, but I’m currently leaning in favour of recommending this game.

Si parte e si gioca quasi subito senza troppe complicazioni. il difetto è che a volte il gioco diventa troppo frenetico e si muore nel gioco ogni 20 secondi, inoltre è difficile imparare tutti i trucchi e gli aspetti del gioco. Alcune armi sono complicate da usare, nel senso che occorre fare delle azioni "Kamikaze" con scontri ravvicinati da cui si esce morti il 70% delle volte (se si è abili, il nemcio muore il 90% della volte) Si può giocare all'infinito. senza scopi o obbiettivi precisi, se non quello di battere i propri record. Però è un'ottima cosa poter scegliere di continuo la propria arma preferita, senza rimanere a secco di colpi. e la propria posizione preferita nella mappa: se sei un tiratore scelto, trova un angolo elevato, nascosto e spara! Ore e ore di puro gioco senza troppi fronzoli e sottigliezze!

Należy sprawdzić czy gra korzysta z grafiki zintegrowanej,jak tak to przełączyć na dedykowaną(np. nvidia).Potem działa normalnie.
Gra nie wyświetla się poprawnie(pomagają ustawienia skalowania w trybie zgodności).
Gra bardzo dobra i pamiętam jak grałem w wersję z 2007 roku gdzieś do dzisiaj mam na dysku jej instalkę ;D.

Szkoda że mało ludzi w to gra . Jest trochę serwerów ale ludzi mało.

I have been playing Alien Arena for about 1 year now (about 1 week via Steam), and played almost a decade ago with an older version. I really enjoy the sci-fi take on this FPS/Arena style game. I remember many a late night playing Quake CTF back in the day and this game does not disappoint. There are a large set of maps for both death match and capture the flag, with a small but dedicated base making new map content, especially in the last few months. For a Q2 engine game, the graphics hold up well, with updated support for modern settings; while still being accessible to those with lower power machines (like mine). And you cannot beat free. I'm glad I took the trip down memory lane and installed this program.

Coded like ass, and runs like ass.
-I started the game and it wouldnt recognize my extremely common resolution. No matter, i changed it quickly.
-unlock FPS, but for some reason its stuck at 111 (????)
-i tried to connect to the few populated servers, and it would hang on the connected screen.
-after the 3rd try i was ready to give up, but it manages to connect, to a bot match.
-bots are coded even worse, they run into walls frequently
gameplay itself:
everything feels slow, feels like piloting a boat.
guns have no impact, firing a rocketlauncher feels like using a hairdryer
There is a reason linux games wont ever take off.

I used to play this over a decade ago, long long before it was on steam. It was fun back then for a free arena shooter style game. In the steam version they seem to have added quite a bit that I don't remember as a child. However there are zero players and the bots range from being brain dead to knowing your exact location and having precise aim. So that makes playing with bots pointless. Its sad really, was hoping for a bit of nostalgic fun and ended up seeing a dead game that used to one of my favorite free multiplayer games to go to. I will edit my review if I'm ever able to get into a full game and have any kind of fun playing with other humanoids (or martians).
(oh and it turns out it was a lot easier to impress me as a kid, some of the maps are very bland and the weapons dont give any sense of power really)

Можно играть с ботами или с игроками в онлайн. Мультиплеер рабочий, серверов хватает, но людей пока мало. В отсутствии компании можно выставить ботов. Они довольно шустрые, не дадут расслабится и заскучать.
Игра включает 23 разнообразных карты, 10 персонажей, 10 видов оружия с двумя режимами стрельбы, достижения и коллекционные карты. Фанатам классических жанра рекомендую!

Pensa no jogo muito bom para os anos de 2004, pois era possível joga em rede lan ou wifi hosted, o jogo tem uma habilidade diferente e bots super P R O, até porque não era possível de nivelar a dificuldade dele, portanto era insano contra os bots, e o meu de tudo que dar para fazer o [i]trick-shoot[/i] como o mouse da mutilaser, coloquei na minha biblioteca justamente para lembrar dessa época, então lá vai a minha nota:

The game wouldn't launch from Steam, so I just launched alienarena.exe and it worked just fine. Not a great start given I could have just played my already installed version of Alien Arena in that case (assuming it's a compatible version).
Once in a match, it was the classic Aliens-themed ioquake3 engine arena FPS fun that I remember. Fast-paced, responsive controls, well-designed levels, and all of the standard gamemodes have tons of maps to add to the challenge.
It's a classic of the ioquake3-based set of games. Even though I'd recommend Quake 3 Arena, OpenArena, Xonotic, and a few others over Alien Arena, it's still a solid arena FPS title.

still the same old Alien Arena I remember (but without the headache of having to jump through all the hoops of trying to get an old open GL game to run on a modern 64 bit post win7-release machine)
for those that haven't played, this is a basic arena FPS which you can play on your own (single player offline with AI bots) or online with others as well.
I normally hate all First Person Shooter games, but this one isn't too bad as long as you aren't expecting to grind for content and just play for fun as a casual gamer.
(I know my steam time is low for this version of the game, but I've logged dozens of hours on this game back in the days of the older versions)

Holy crap man, this arena shooter did not age well for starters. Great! more reason to justify to any triple A developer out there to not make anymore of these AFPS games! Just like how Quake Champions is still struggling to make ends meet, Diabotical is gone or if anyone stumbles upon a really obscure shooter like I did just now.
so, main thing: game is dead as ♥♥♥♥. anytime you see maybe 3 or 4 players in any server, check the ping and you'll realize they're bots. I definitely ain't sticking around.
Weapons are...meh. only one was fun to use was the minigun which also acts so obsurd...
maps are standard arena FPS. mostly.
and that's really it for the most part. I felt more at home playing Xonotic though. I don't know, Xon seemed more fluid movement to me.

Oh yea so someone else talked about the achievements and made a comparison to CS:GO and I totally agree. And I'll say this: An online shooter without any players isn't that functional, even though there's a offline practice mode but that totally defeats the purpose of Alien arena to me when the online mode is where "the cream of the crop is"...or however the ♥♥♥♥ you say that line.
It really does make more sense to have multiplayer achievement unlocks on something like CS:GO or Slipgate: arena warfare since there's people playing that.
If you like aliens and old school arena shooters this game is for you.

Сие поделие на любителя. Это как Quake, но с вырвиглазной графикой. А еще интерфейс. который заставит вас поднапрячся: у меня пригорел пукан еще в настройках, когда я пытался выставить разрешение. Система ввода одновременно то затупливает - и ваш перс начинает вяло реагировать на ваши команды (а то и вовсе перестает их выполнять), то очень резко реагирует на малейшие движения мышью и нажатия на клавиши... Так то херь конечно, но попробовать стоит ради фана и впечатлений. Но покупать бы я не стал.

Beautiful masterpiece , it really keeps that old nostalgic vibe to it. A big thumbs up and thank you to the creators for making it so good. A classic Arena FPS that can compete with Quake and UT.
I really wanted to like this game, especially since I basically got it for free, but I just cannot enjoy very much for the life of me.
So Alien Arena is a Arena FPS built on the Quake 3 engine (I guess) with an artstyle that looks more Unreal-esque. It feels like the devs tried to mash the two leading Arena giants together and frankly it doesn't work for me.
Not only is the sensitivity for aiming either too slow or too fast no matter what I do, but it also feels like they're using a slower movement speed like in Unreal and forcing you to use it on maps that encourage speed like in Quake or something along those lines. The movement doesn't seem to mesh well with the level design is the TDLR way of describing this. Granted it could just be me but if it isn't I don't know if there's any real way to change that.
You're not getting ripped off for the price they're asking for ($1), but I think if you've play and enjoyed other arena shooters, this will feel quite dull.

A fun arena shooter, if a little quirky. For bot play it should do fine enough, though navigating the menus is somewhat confusing. The "Practice Offline" mode only lets you play through the game's stock maps with preset rules and bots, but if you want to play the DLC maps and customize how you want play, you'll have to go "Host Server" and set things up that way.
What is even more odd is that if you quit the game, the bots you set for each map is saved, but the server settings you made do not get saved. This can get annoying if you just want to jump in right away after setting up your preferred gameplay settings. Also, stats only save after you quit the game properly, so the achievements will only pop up after you quit the game. By the way, hope you have time to waste for 10,000 matches, at least at the time I posted this review.
Some issues aside, the game is pretty pick up and play, movement feels great and while the weapons are odd to use at first, it takes no time to get a feel for them. The game runs pretty well and for just $1, I'd say this game is good for fast-paced matches. The game's stock maps are fine, though if you really want some more interesting maps, do consider downloading all the DLC map packs to get the most you can with this game. It's nice to see that there was post-launch support for this game.
Overall, this is a fun game, I'd say it's worth a shot.
Alien Arena is a cheap old school FPS shooter,it's based on id Tech 2 CRX game engine(Quake II) with a lot of modifications, 32-bit high-resolution textures, 3D models used as architecture in maps, GLSL per-pixel lighting effects, parallax mapping etc etc.It's a mix of Quake III Arena and maybe a little of Unreal Tournament.Bought it because well...It was really cheap and I remember playing this game as a kid,when it was free,when I had crappy laptop.Kind of repetitive gameplay,I will probably play more though,because of achievements.Anyway the game's fine 6/10 in my opinion.Love the main menu theme :)

I used to play this game for free on Linux. Paying $1.00 is a bargain. The game doesn't make much sense, but I will say that it is a fun shooter game. There are not many types like this around where you get shot, respawn, and dive right back in within seconds. It's a fun battle everytime.
My only recommendation for the devs of this game would be to add better guns and items. Otherwise, if someone is wondering if they should play this because it looks outdated, just play it. It's a buck, buy one for your friends, and just have a fun battle royale over the weekend. Sometimes it's nice to get away from all the other games and chill with this one.
Looking forward to newer and better versions.
Edit: By better items I mean, it would be cool to implement a temporary few seconds of where everyone is at. Let's say someone picks up this item, they'll have an advantage for a few seconds for that entire team. Another idea would be a gun that has a few shots and each shot tracks the person you're shooting at. Mines, trip wires, those would be fun too.
Update: I would add in hit markers on impact. The visual effects from landing a shot are non existent and it's hard to tell sometimes.
Ну что же, в принципе это неплохой нишевый продукт, коих много на просторах стима. Игра ориентирована на многопользовательский режим и невооружённым взглядом видно, что создатели вдохновлялась такими проектами, как Unreal Tournament, Doom или Quake. Это такой же 3D шутер с видом от первого лица, со схожей графикой (ближе к Unreal Tournament), и с баталиями, происходящими на различных картах. Карт в игре много, выбор большой. Оружия тоже хватает, к тому же, у каждого ствола есть альтернативная стрельба. Выбираете сервер, персонажа и вперёд, мочить недругов. Все сервера рабочие, живые люди встречаются, но их крайне мало. Можно играть с ботами. Это если вы хотите набить достижения, а играть не с кем.
В общем, неплохой сетевой шутер, с простеньким графоном, но динамичным геймплеем. Однако, не рекомендую брать игру, даже несмотря на то, что она стоит 30р. Людей крайне мало, а боты, хотя и ведут себя достойно, всё равно не заменят живых людей. Геймплей, в итоге, превратится в унылый и скучный экшен, а если вы ещё и ачивки повыбивать захотите, то ещё и рутины прибавится. Так что, не советую брать, хотя игра и неплоха.

Alien Arena ist ein sehr simpler First-Person Multiplayer Shooter. Der Arena Shooter erinnert dabei an Spiele wie "Unreal Tournament". Das ist schnell, unkompliziert und direkt. Der Over-the-Top Fun-Shooter hat einige coole Alien-Waffen, typische Sammelobjekte wie etwa eine Panzerung oder Gesundheitsregeneration und kommt mit klassischen Modi wie zum Beispiel Capture the Flag.
Und: das Game läuft gut und funktioniert technisch sauber. Auch wenn die Grafik nicht mehr up-to-date sein mag, das Gameplay inklusive Retro-Feeling macht Laune. Das einzige Problem kann sein, einen bevölkerten Server zu finden. Darüber kann dann auch die Single-Player Trainings-Level nicht wegtrösten. Und auch die bei fehlenden menschlichen Gegnern auftauchenden Bots neigen zu Dämlichkeit und bleiben gerne in Ecken hängen.
Positiv zu werten sind die zahlreichen kostenlosen Maps, die oft recht kreativ ausfallen. Hinzu kommt der günstige Preis für das Hauptspiel. Und so ist der Titel denn ein einfacher, aber solider Vertreter seines Genres.

My opinion on this game is largely nostalgic because I used to play this game a lot when I was younger. It's €0,79 right now, so buy it and try it yourself. I'm loving it!
Very good old-school arena-shooter with a great friendly community and regular tournaments. Multiplayer is alive but not 24/7, however I also found the bots to be competent, realistic and fun to play with. I would also recommen joining the Discord server, it will tell you automatically when players join a server online - which is a very neat feature.
Very neat design and atmosphere, low gore, just a fun shooter. Really worth to at least try out if you are new to such games - or you are looking for a humorous shooter without the gore and over exaggerated brutality. This game and Acid Arena are my favorite FPS games, they contrast and complement each other very well.
