Being a literary character, you've probably only seen him films portrayed by the likes of Albert Finney, Peter Ustinov, or Kenneth Branagh or on television as played by David Suchet or John Malkovich. Or perhaps that one episode of [i]Muppets Tonight[/i] in the 90's where he's played by Jason Alexander while Seinfeld was still at its peak of popularity
[*] As the title implies, [i]First Cases[/i] depicts a much younger, less experienced, more lightly moustached, and—like Jason Alexander—much balder Poirot than you're used to seeing. With his mustard-colored blazer and bright red dress shoes, he looks a little like Ronald McDonald before putting on his wig and makeup in the morning
[*] Beyond the mystery-solving cheeseburger clown, the rest of the visuals are nothing special. You'll spend the majority of your clue-hunting time looking at the fancy old manor and its flowered grounds from an isometric perspective. I did think the character portraits during interrogations were a thoughtful touch. They look nice while also changing to reflect each character's emotional state, though some additional variety in their expressions would have been appreciated
[*] The soundtrack is pretty uninspiring. It's predominantly repetitive background strings that barely register in most circumstances. Still, I found myself missing the music in the long stretches spent guiding Poirot around the mansion, where there's otherwise nothing to listen to besides the squeaky floorboards
[*] I wouldn't have expected a title like this to have so much voice acting, but it's featured prominently throughout the runtime. Although the actors (especially Poirot's) do a commendable job, the audio quality suffers in some settings. For instance, when making a successful connection in his Mind Map, Poirot's audio sounds like he's sitting halfway across a non-soundproofed from the microphone
[*] I just wish the lip-syncing on the character models during dialogue was even half-assed. It's a little funny to hear fairly well-performed voice work while the character's mouth flaps away disconnectedly. It feels like watching a dub

[*] Being [i]The [b]First[/b] Cases[/i], you might anticipate that the game is a retelling of one of Agatha Christie's early Poirot works. Not so. Instead, the narrative is entirely an invention of the developers
[*] The plot consists of two major segments: a lengthy prologue and the main story. In the prologue, Poirot is still a constable who is called out to a ritzy country mansion to investigate the theft of a diamond bracelet. Although the manor's mistress heavily suspects that the maid, Elizabeth, is responsible for the larceny, careful investigation reveals that there's much more to the case than meets the eye. At the prologue's conclusion, he reluctantly hauls away a wrongly-accused suspect after one of his commanding officers pulls rank to appease (and woo) Madame Van den Bosch
[*] The main plot begins years later when Madame Van den Bosch's daughter, Angeline, invites Poirot back to the manor to celebrate her engagement to a wealthy heir and businessman. Unfortunately, a dark shadow is cast over the mirthmaking as Poirot learns that the Van den Bosch family is being blackmailed by someone claiming to know a damning secret about them. That shadow grows even darker when one of the guests winds up murdered following an argument with Angeline's fiancé
[*] In all, it's a competent mystery with an ample amount of intrigue and a fair number of twists and turns. I especially enjoyed the 2-for-1 mystery and the connections and callbacks to the prologue within the main story. Having never read an Agatha Christie novel in my life, I can't really weigh its quality against a replacement-level Poirot tale, but it at least kept my interest
[*] I swear to god, though, if I had to hear Poirot use the phrase "little gray cells" one more time, I would have asked for a refund

[*] Unfortunately, the work you need to do to move the plot forward shakes out to be tedious and confusing in equal measure. Unlike point-and-click detective games, the investigative portions of [i]The First Cases[/i] are bereft of puzzles or any other gameplay hook that extends beyond merely clicking on interactable objects and listening to Poirot talk about them
[*] Interviews and interrogations aren't much better. You robotically click through all the selectable dialogue options until whoever you're talking to has nothing new to say
[*] The end result is that evidence finding becomes less about chasing down threads or deducing what to do next and more about ensuring that you've clicked on all the things that you can click on. It's a thoughtless, boring process that can't be redeemed by the commendable voicework despite the actors' best efforts
[*] Once you've gathered a sufficient number of clues, you can pause the game and enter Poirot's "Mind Map". This is where the gameplay goes from bad to worse. Here, you can connect various thoughts and clues together to unlock additional conclusions. Stringing together the important bits unlocks additional conversations (and occasionally locations) and allows the plot to progress
[*] Sadly, the difficulty of making these connections is either dead simple or nearly impossible with very little in between. I found myself arbitrarily connecting new pieces of evidence with the nodes I already had in an attempt to fish for a correct guess. I suppose this dynamic is meant to reflect Poirot's tendency to solve mysteries based on psychological and intuitive knowledge rather than leaning on the clues. In practice, unfortunately, it feels like a lot of unfun guesswork
[*] Once you've solved the mystery, there's very little reason to consider a revisit. In that regard, I'd say the replayability is quite low

[*] I always feel a little guilty when I review a game with a literary inspiration when I've never actually read the original work(s). In this case, though, I feel somewhat justified considering that it's an original script
[*] Kudos to the writers; I don't think the game's shortcomings are attributable to them. I accept that Christie fans may look on the narrative as a bastardized imitation, but for the uninitiated like myself, it was more than serviceable. Credit, too, to the VAs who did their best to entertain throughout [i]The First Case[/i]'s 7-8 hour runtime. In the end, if a game feels like filling out a checklist followed by unengaging guesswork, no amount of competent writing or acting can save it
[*] Given the number of high quality film and TV adaptations, there are much better options for getting your fill of Poirot-flavored mystery solving. I'd recommend the long-running PBS show or 1978's [i]Death on the Nile[/i] with Peter Ustinov instead
[*] I played this primarily on the Steam Deck, and can report that it ran and controlled quite well. Still, this is probably one of those titles that's better played with a mouse

[b]3.5[/b]/10. Even for a detective game junkie like myself, this is a hard game to appreciate. So many other titles have managed investigative gameplay better that it's surprising that a game that was released just five years ago couldn't find a few ideas to steal and tweak to make this a more enjoyable experience. I've still got a few of the newer Microids Agatha Christie titles in my backlog, and I'm hoping that they managed to build upon what shook out to be a fairly mediocre playthrough

A Solid Mystery with Great Atmosphere, played on Steam Deck OLED

I played through Agatha Christie-Hercule Poirot: The First Cases on my Steam Deck OLED, and it is a perfect match for the handheld. The game ran flawlessly right out of the box on Linux SteamOS. I installed the game on a Micro SD card and experienced zero issues with load times or performance, it's a smooth experience from start to finish.

The visuals look particularly nice on the OLED screen, the lighting in the luxurious manor and the snowstorm effects really pop. I also have to give a shoutout to the voice acting, which is well delivered and helps bring the characters to life.

I enjoyed the classic Poirot investigation and the mindmap deduction system. I ended up finishing the main story with the help of a guide, though I didn't manage to get all the achievements because I strayed off the path in the guide. If I could suggest one improvement, it would be the addition of a chapter selection feature. It would make going back for missed achievements much easier than having to start a new save and replay everything.

Overall, if you’re a fan of detective games and own a Deck, this is an easy recommendation.

This isn't an easy game but it is worth playing. Great story-Of COURSE- it is Agatha Christie, after all. I enjoyed seeing a young Hercule Poirot solving his first case. He had the same classic mannerisms as in his later years. The dialogue was great and I liked the concept of connecting the clues and confronting various characters.

This game is poorly executed. I wanted so much to play an investigative game with good story and puzzles. There is a case board where you match clues together to try and figure out the story as you play it. Most of the connections are obvious and a waste of time. It stops gameplay every time you find a "clue" to connect the clues on the case board. You can't do anything else or find any more clues until you've "solved" the case board every 5 minutes.

What made me quit this game was an entire hour spent trying to figure out the random set of connections in the exact order the game wanted them in. Then when I finally got it, nothing happened. It was a nonsensical annoyance that didn't need solving and did absolutely nothing. There was no sense of accomplishment from successfully figuring it out because in the end they were not even clues to solve a case or move the story along. Just something the developer thought was a good idea to waste my time on.

A true detective puzzle game makes you think and uses logic to solve problems and find answers. This game fails at every turn. I don't recommend playing this without a guide to tell you the answers or you'll become stuck when the answers don't make sense.

After reading all the Poirot novels, I found this for the PS3 and simply had to get it. It was my first Poirot game, and through it, I found other gems like the ABC Murders one by different devs which turned into a quick favorite.
Then I found the First Cases on Steam and simply had to get it again. That alone should show I recommend the game and enjoyed it.

It is nicely done, with the characters being interesting and the locations fitting, nothing too over the top but not too simplistic, either. I enjoyed the start of it and at first wondered whether the whole game would be split up into smaller cases like this (as the title is First CaseS) but then the *big thing* happened and it became clear one is the prologue, the other the main game, one building up to the other.
The main story is decent, the crime believable, and the way the case is handled feels realistic if painful at times (especially regarding the prologue).

I do wish there was either a sort of chapter selection available, or a clearer indicator when one part will end. Especially for the achievements. I like to play this game from beginning to end when I start it over, so I prefer to let some time pass in-between. By now, I must have finished this game at least 4 times, and yet I still make the same mistake every time when out in the snow that I go along to the gate on one side with the intent to circle back on the other, and then interacting with the gate takes you back inside and I'm like NOOOOOOO and still don't have the achievement for finding all clues in the snow.
I also have an issue where I appear to be missing an item in the staff-related area and I have no idea what it is because, again, I've played this game several times now and even once used a guide and am still missing that achievement for some reason. Will have to retry one of these days.

The mindmap can be a little tricky at times because the points needing to be connected lead to conclusions that feel obvious or already established. After playing ABC Murders, I also wish there were more puzzles to play around with, though I still enjoy playing this enough to keep coming back to it, so make of that what you will.

Would recommend it to those that enjoy detective games and confrontations, though there's little you can really do *wrong* here. Most things can simply be redone if you messed them up.

The story starts from an initial turning point for Hercule Poirot, the protagonist detective, and how that turning point leads into the case the spans the course of the game. Like any other detective game, you gather clues from the surroundings. In this instance, you have an isometric topdown view, and you note points of interests or gather clues from conversations with various other characters.

It is a fine, intuitive detective game. The gathering of clues make for conclusions that you, the player, can reasonably draw from yourself. For instance, some clues indicate a character is lying, and while the evidence does not immediately indicate and nothing in the gameplay indicate, you -- outside of the gameplay -- can infer what the given character is lying and perhaps why the character. In other, there are no esoteric methodologies for how a crime is committed; any reasonable person can infer what is going on or will come out of an investigation. Eventually, the gameplay comes in the form of mind maps -- a graph where the evidences are the nodes. You can connect different pieces of evidence or testimonies to draw conclusions or inferences, which can be further connected to anything else in the mind map before it eventually becomes Pepe Silvia from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

I do like how the story and clues lay out a story that you can infer ahead of time, like a classic detective novel, but the mind maps usually make it so that you have make inferences or conclusions for basic facts and conclusions that other characters have already testified. In other words, a decent portion of the mind map feel more like playing a lawyer establishing a basis and set of facts to a jury rather than a detective who make actual deductions from the evidence. It makes it a bit weirder when at times Hercule, the player character, makes his own independent inferences or conclusions that are completely separate from the mind maps and seem almost like a logical jump in conclusions from the facts given (even if it turns out to be true). If anything, I wish those mysteries were part of the mind map rather than the basic facts.

The other part of the gameplay is the argument system. At times, you have to use different arguments or dialogue in order to persuade the other side to give a testimony, state some undisclosed fact, or agree. A lot of this is guided by the player character until the very end where you have to make your own choices. I do wish this was more unguided especially since the system plays a big part at the end of the game.

The best part of the game would be the dialogue and the voice acting. The voice actor pushes for what the characters and how they may lie. The best part of the dialogue is when the characters talk to each other because how a character talks to a detective is not necessarily revealing of their character; how a character interacts with their friends, family, and guests are and reveal the character dynamics. The best scene would be at the end of chapter 2 where they have a big dinner: the dialogue matches how people in a big dinner would have their own separate conversations and if you were to listen to them concurrently, you would get lost in the chaotic mess.

I enjoyed playing this game overall, though the mind map connections seem to be either given to you via the Poirot's musings or completely unintuitive - my group kept turning the mind map hints off and on. So don't expect a super thinky deduction heavy mystery, despite the mind map feature. Nevertheless, I enjoy seeing the mind maps and getting a sense of the current objective, especially if I haven't played in a few weeks.

思維推理的部分還蠻有趣的，但是破完之後沒有章節選擇功能，要補完成就只能重頭來過真的很麻煩。
若是沒有章節選擇，也應該開放自行存檔功能在一些重要節點存檔。

So many unforgivable sins in this game. Sin 1-unskippable cutscenes. Sin 2-no manual saves, only autosaves. If you mess up, you have to start the whole game over again Sin 3-missable evidence and deductions. If you're going to make it so you can't manually save a game, don't make anything missable. Sin 4-it is impossible to complete the game without a guide, being that you have to start the whole game over again if you mess up as there are WRONG dialogue choices.
Not only that, but Poirot is absolutely insufferable. He's arrogant, self righteous, and a complete stick. He's basically Javert from Les Miserables, if Javert talked too much because he liked hearing the sound of his own voice. If Javert is a stone wall, this version of Poirot is a stone wall that won't stop narrating its own masonry! Forget my money, I want the last three days of my life back!

Aksiyon aramayan, sakin tempolu ama düşünmeye dayalı bir oynanıştan hoşlanan oyuncular için oldukça uygun. Dedektiflik oyunlarını, Agatha Christie atmosferini ve hikaye odaklı yapımları seven; ipuçlarını sabırla birleştirmekten keyif alan ve tabii ki de uzun diyaloglar okumaktan rahatsızlık duymayan oyunculara gönül rahatlığıyla önerebileceğim bir oyun.

The main reason I stopped playing this game was because of the sound. After every single line of dialogue and every time you hover over clues it makes a sound which at first didn't bother me, but after playing for a while just got downright aggravating. The next time I sat down to play a game I thought about playing more of this but couldn't do it just because of the sounds. The gameplay was fine, I didn't run into anything game breaking or any glitches. The movement isn't great, but not the worst thing in the world. I honestly don't know how I played 9 hours of this. I'll stick to my Nancy Drew games.

This game is better than The ABC Murders, but it still did not fully work for me. The pacing is very slow, and I never felt a real sense of urgency while investigating. Even when the story should have felt tense, the gameplay remained flat. The ideas are there, but the experience feels drawn out and lacks momentum, which made it hard to stay engaged.

Ds Spiel hat schöne Seiten, aber im Großen und Ganzen war ich enttäuscht. Bereits erwähnt wurden die mäßige Animation und teilweisen Nichtlinearitäten - man spricht einerseits in den Dialogen teilweise plötzlich über Dinge, die man noch gar nicht weiß, andererseits muss man in den Gedankenkarten teilweise den gleichen Schluss doppelt und dreifach ziehen, der auch schon im Gespräch gesagt oder vorher in einer anderen Karte gezogen wurde (besonders nervig ist, wenn Poirot sich dabei auch noch für total genial hält). Außerdem stehen die Schlussfolgerungen teilweise schon in den Mindmaps drin, man muss nur noch die Verbindungen zusammenführen, die zu ihnen führen - das fand ich extrem verwirrend, weil für mich nicht erkennbar war, ob das ein weiterer Ausgangs- oder ein Endpunkt war (eben weil es teilweise eigentlich schon gezogene Schlussfolgerungen waren).
Überhaupt mussten in den Gedankenkarten teilweise völlig offensichtliche und repetitive Verbindungen gezogen werden, teilweise aber auch welche, bei denen ich auch hinterher nicht wusste, auf welcher Basis man diese Verbindungen ziehen sollte außer der, dass zwei Punkte senkrecht oder waagrecht nebeneinander standen, was immer ein klarer Hinweis auf eine Verbindung ist (welche Diagonalen ebenfalls in diese Klasse gehören habe ich nicht herausgefunden, da waren andere besser).
Am Schlimmsten finde ich aber das Speichersystem, das einem nicht einmal erlaubt, ein Kapitel neu zu spielen, geschweige denn eine Sequenz. Wenn man schon eine Handlung entwirft, in der die Entscheidungen während eines Dialogs den Ausgang der Handlung beeinflussen, dann muss einem auch die Chance gegeben werden, es noch einmal besser zu machen, ohne dass man das ganze Spiel von Anfang neu spielen muss. Insbesondere ärgert mich das, weil ich eigentlich nie einen Zusammenhang zwischen den "hilfreichen Hinweisen" am Anfang eines Gesprächs und den dann angebotenen Antworten gefunden habe. Wenn ich keine solide Basis für meine Entscheidungen habe, möchte ich wenigstens die Chance der Wiederholung bekommen.
Zusätzlich unattraktiv wird eine Wiederholung dadurch, dass man gescriptete Sequenzen nicht beschleunigen (ich will dem Sprecher nicht bis zuende zuhören müssen, wenn ich den Text schon fertig gelesen habe!) oder überspringen kann und man auch bei der Bewegung im Haus jede Animation bis zuende anschauen muss, wo andere Spiele einem eine Beschleunigung des Ortswechsels z.B. per Doppelklick anbieten, sobald man die Grafiken ausreichend bewundert hat. Das riecht für mich sehr nach künstlicher Verlängerung der Spielzeit-Statistik, macht andererseits ein erneutes Spielen aber wirklich unattraktiv.

I enjoy this game and love the art direction. Unfortunately what bothers me is the gameplay. It wouldn't allow me to go back to a previous chapter once I finish a new chapter or finished the game. I am not missing 3 achievements but in order to get them I have to play through it again? Also, the game launches in my system language which is fine, but the options selection button didn't work when I wanted to change to a different language. Nothing showed up and there was no way so exit the invisible "options". Please improve this with a patch and I'll probably change this to a positive review

If you are REALLY feeling the detective game itch, and it's wintertime and you feel like curling up with a cup of tea for a cozy evening, it's decently entertaining, provided you buy it at a deep discount. On the whole, however, this game is extremely mid.

The writing is very bad, down to the level of words being used with the wrong meanings and sentences being phrased so confusingly that you have to mentally untangle what the writer was even trying to say.

Some of the art is charming (my favorite is Cassandra's terrifying "in a huff" face), but the 3D character models look like creepy dolls.

The plot is... fine, but nothing mind-blowing here. The deduction system suffers from the familiar problem that many detective games face, where you have to read the designers' minds on many of the more arbitrary, illogical, or poorly-phrased connections. You kind of just have to roll with it and turn on the in-game hint system for the particularly obtuse ones. The game is completely linear, so it really doesn't matter anyway. The deduction mechanic is really just there to tickle your brain into the illusion that you are doing something rather than passively taking in a story.

The entertainment value I personally got out of this game is mostly from things that the developers didn't necessarily intend. The politics are demented in a wacky, surreal way that feels like riding a roller coaster. Poirot himself comes off as naïve and sometimes shockingly callous, even though I think the writers were going for idealistic. Overall, extraordinarily uneven in a way that makes a lot of C+ level media unintentionally enjoyable.

Transitions are slow and the game is also incredibly slow to navigate and ultimately a drag on any enjoyable story or plot! 史低6.2r入手，一周目没看攻略打了6.9h，拿了39/46个成就。然后就发现这游戏通关之后没有像锈湖那样的选关功能，想补成就只能从头再打一遍，于是破防删游了。。
最近感觉剧情忘得差不多了刚好补一下成就，所以开了二周目。这次全程跟着steam社区指南里的攻略打的，二周目花了4.8h拿到全成就，补了调查所有窗户、油画、佣人区物品、雪中隐藏物品，从弗洛雷特处得到回忆，再一次返回案发现场，完美通关结局章节的7个成就。
强烈推荐社区指南里那篇英文全成就指南（里面很详细地写了每个章节里所有油画和窗户等的位置）和几篇中文成就指南（关于雪中物品、佣人区物品、完美通关结局章节的成就），如果有想补成就的可以参考。
其实案子本身挺有意思，这个思维导图我也很喜欢，但是没有选关功能太噩梦了TvT

Und jetzt müsste ich das komplette Spiel noch mal spielen, um das zu ändern? Absolutes Fehldesign. Das war frustrierend und ich werde ganz sicher nicht noch einmal acht Stunden interaktive Erzählung anhören, in der es fast ausschließlich ums Texte lesen ging, nur um nicht wütend zu bleiben.

I played it one time and didn’t get my achievement for “Work-Life Balance.” I inspected everything in the room, but the achievement still wasn’t unlocked. Then I played the game a second time really fast (skipping the monologues), searched for solutions online, followed them, and it still didn’t unlock. I wrote to the publisher, and they answered: “…our team support is unable to unlock the trophy…”.

So now I have a game that is unfinished and no help at all.

Now to the game itself: it’s bad. Even if I had gotten all the achievements, I would still say that. It’s boring and slow. Furthermore, the character feels stupid, not like a good detective. (Spoiler) It was so obvious to question the personnel, but he didn’t even think about that. The game is way too simple.

If you want a good detective game, play the Sherlock Holmes games. They are really good: great story, you actually have to think, and there are good puzzles. All in all, I wouldn’t suggest this game at all. You just click through it with no thinking. Boring story.

Ich habe das Spiel einmal gespielt und das Achievement „Work-Life Balance“ nicht bekommen. Ich habe alles im Raum untersucht, aber das Achievement wurde trotzdem nicht freigeschaltet. Danach habe ich das Spiel ein zweites Mal sehr schnell durchgespielt (mit übersprungenen Monologen), online nach Lösungen gesucht, diesen gefolgt – und trotzdem wurde es nicht freigeschaltet. Ich habe den Publisher angeschrieben, und sie haben geantwortet: „…unser Support-Team kann die Trophäe nicht freischalten…“.

Jetzt habe ich also ein unfertiges Spiel und bekomme keinerlei Hilfe.

Zum Spiel selbst: Es ist schlecht. Selbst wenn ich alle Achievements bekommen hätte, würde ich das sagen. Es ist langweilig und langsam. Außerdem wirkt der Charakter dumm, nicht wie ein guter Detektiv. (Spoiler) Es war so offensichtlich, das Personal zu befragen, aber er hat nicht einmal daran gedacht. Das Spiel ist viel zu simpel.

Wenn ihr ein gutes Detektivspiel spielen wollt, dann spielt die Sherlock-Holmes-Spiele. Sie sind wirklich gut: tolle Story, man muss selbst nachdenken und es gibt gute Rätsel. Alles in allem kann ich dieses Spiel überhaupt nicht empfehlen. Man klickt sich nur durch, ohne wirklich selbst zu denken. Langweilige Geschichte.

Actually a solid detective game. The story feels like a real Christie novel and the deduction board mechanic makes you feel smart without holding your hand too much.

The character animations are a bit janky/stiff, but honestly, you stop noticing after a while because the writing is good. If you like point-and-clicks, just get it.

While it has some charm, I can't in good conscience recommend a game that hates the player.

This is at it's core an adventure game where you slowly explore scenes for triggerpoints to make observations, but the game loves to only activate these triggers after certain actions are performed. While this makes perfect sense from a storytelling point of view, it's very infuriating when something you've written off as visual fluff suddenly becomes the bottleneck for progress. This should have been caught in testing and remedied with some sort of "detective vision" where you can highlight all triggers in the scene. There's also something very strange in how the game allows you to move with the keyboard, but does so by constantly snapping the mouse cursor to your feet so you can't move this way while scanning for triggers.

The other core mechanic is using these observations to form deductions in your mind map, which is a neat little sub-game. the problem is that too often you find yourself with three or more concepts that are functionally the same. It's often clear what the end result must be, but the game forces you to connect them in the correct order. Example from the very first puzzle in the game: [spoiler]While it's obvious that there is no break in, you have to connect the observations in the correct order: Connecting the side and front door gives you no forced access, which combines with the result of the window and ladder for, which again combines with how the intruder didn't use the lawn or path.[/spoiler] The net result is that you feel like you're on rails.

It's not all bad though, there is a charming puzzle-exploration-game at the core, but this is one where you might want a guide at hand.

Hercule Poirot: The First Cases is a game that feels like opening a small antique chest and finding inside the first steps of a character we already consider an old friend. Here we don't see Poirot as the self-assured master of his “little grey cells” that he later becomes, but rather a young detective who is beginning to discover his own method, intuition, and elegance.

Visually, without being a technical display, it has its own charm, built with respect for Agatha Christie's legacy, without trying to imitate her clumsily, but rather reinterpreting her spirit from a younger and fresher angle.

The most beautiful thing about the game is that it does not try to be grandiose. It is a tribute. A love letter to a detective who has accompanied generations. And at the same time, a friendly gateway for those who have never followed his cases.

Jak sam tytuł wskazuje „Hercule Poirot: The First Cases” przenosi gracza do początkowych lat kariery słynnego detektywa wykreowanego przez Agathę Christie. Fabuła skupia się na rozwiązaniu zagadki pewnego szantażu uderzającego w jedną z rodzin belgijskiej klasy wyższej. Gra stawia nacisk na dedukcję oraz analizę relacji między poszczególnymi postaciami, dodatkowo całkiem nieźle odwzorowuje realia lat dwudziestych ubiegłego wieku, a także przybliża metody oraz charakter młodego Hercule’a Poirota.

GRAFIKA
Klasyczna dla produkcji z gatunku „point & click”. Lokacje ukazane w rzucie izometrycznym pozwalają na dokładną eksplorację pomieszczeń. Projekty wnętrz oraz rekwizyty i stroje dobrze oddają klimat epoki, chociaż trudno mówić o jakiejś wielkiej dbałości o szczegóły. Animacje są proste, a „rysunkowe” modele postaci w momentach dialogów niestety statyczne. Styl graficzny nawet nieźle pasuje do klimatu produkcji, aczkolwiek nie robi wielkiego wrażenia.

DŹWIĘK
Muzyka i efekty dźwiękowe praktycznie niezauważalne, z jednej strony nie rozpraszają, z drugiej nie budują klimatu rozgrywki. Dubbing jest poprawny, chociaż nierówny i nie zawsze w pełni oddający emocje bohaterów.

GRYWALNOŚĆ
Rozgrywka opiera się na dialogach oraz eksploracji otoczenia, które następnie dzięki dedukcji (mechanika tzw. „mapy myśli”) można przekuć na konkretne wnioski. Sterowanie jest intuicyjne, a łączenie kropek przychodzi stosunkowo łatwo. Tempo gry jest bardzo powolne i nawet rozwikłanie kluczowych dla fabuły zagadek nie jest jakoś specjalnie akcentowane. Powtarzalność wykonywanych czynności może w dłuższej perspektywie okazać się nużące, więc nie da się ukryć, że „Hercule Poirot: The First Cases” jest grą na raz i próba ponownego jej przejścia nie ma większego sensu. Gra oferuje zdobycie łącznie 46 osiągnięć, z których większość przyznawana jest automatycznie dzięki postępom w grze. Kilka trofeów może jednak „uciec” przez złe decyzje dialogowe lub pominięcie interakcji z obiektami w kluczowych momentach gry. Trzeba być więc uważnym i skrupulatnym w eksploracji otoczenia, jeśli chce się wyłapać komplet achievementów.

PODSUMOWANIE
„Hercule Poirot: The First Cases” to przyzwoita gra detektywistyczna, która dzięki solidnie nakreślonej intrydze może wciągnąć i skraść kilka godzin z życia. Nie jest to produkcja przeznaczona dla fanów szybkiej akcji, ale dla osób lubiących śledzić ciekawą fabułę oraz przeprowadzać analizę faktów i rozwiązywać zagadki logiczne.

CZY BYŁO WARTO?
Tak. Koszt zakupu tej gry wyniósł niewiele, bo ok. 5,72 PLN. Przeszedłem ją bez zgrzytania zębami, chociaż z opisanych powyżej powodów raczej nie będę już do niej wracał.

经典的“暴风雪山庄模式”，对外联络阻断、涉案人员无法逃离，其中敲诈案、谋杀案穿插进行

Blazing Griffin游戏中的波洛（最初案件、伦敦案件）并不像Microids Studio Lyon那样刻画了一个瘦削的高个子老头（东方快车谋杀案、尼罗河上的惨案），相反，前者的波洛皮肤黝黑，留有寸头，说实话这两版形象第一眼都很不适应，可能是大卫·苏切特的影版赫尔克里·波洛形象更深入我心吧

不能自选章节和波洛不能快走是落后时代的减分项，考虑到本作发布的2021年，一来这游戏有个横跨几个章节的收集成就，错过就要从头来过，二来波洛这人真的就是一点都不急，出了命案还慢吞吞地走，不要求能跑起码能加速快走吧，说是符合人设实则拖累游戏节奏，怎么看都不像近几年才出的游戏

本作的“思维导图”玩法给我的感觉就是莫名其妙，连接线索时经常有两个或三个线索明明意思大差不差，但玩家必须要试错完才知道究竟哪个是正确答案。这对于一款悬疑推理游戏来说体验是大打折扣的，因为到这一步玩家根本不是在揣测推理阿婆小说的故事逻辑反倒是开发者的意图，而这导致了游戏思维导图的搭建完全是无头苍蝇乱撞，有的时候不得不借助跳出的提示，这时再定睛一看，连接的两条线索有可能比玩家自己推理出来的要没逻辑得多

而且不像我之前玩过的《东方快车谋杀案》，本作除了推理和打破心理防线以外再无任何扩展性的内容，玩家要做的基本就是在这座宅子里city walk（其实应该叫mansion walk），找人侃大山，收集证物，同嫌疑人对峙，没了，本作甚至没谜题给玩家真的动一动脑子

大概最大的优点就是平平淡淡地将故事讲完，而不是像《东方快车谋杀案》那样整出虎头蛇尾的改编内容

First I will start with the negatives; the game is mostly walking around and talking, with the main "puzzle" being the mind map of Poirot and connecting nodes in order to get an idea for a question to ask someone. If that doesn't sound fun to you then this game isn't for you. The mind map also is both obtuse and obvious, sometimes nodes near each other is most likely the obvious answer but sometimes it's not really clear what connecting two nodes mean so you never really try them until finding out that was the correct answer all along. There are also a little graphical glitches and typos especially towards the end of the game which might break some people's enjoyment. The sound mixing is also terrible, some voices are much softer or much louder than others causing me to rely mostly on the subtitles to understand what's going on.
However, I think the story, art, and the voice acting saves all of this. Most of the characters are voiced very well, especially for Poirot, Cassandra, and Jackie as highlights for me. The art style and the design for the characters were also really well done, I especially like how each character wears their personality and you can tell in one glance what kind of person they might be. I really like the 2D character portraits as well, since the 3D models aren't that detailed. The story is something I really enjoyed with how many twists it took but also still have a heart and poignant meaning in the middle of it all. It doesn't go too deep but it still shows a reflection of the society they wanted to shed light on. It also really feels like a young Poirot from the books, right down to the strict personality, the vainness, and his inquisitive dialogue. It feels like the people who wrote for him actually knew him and read the books. I also love the pacing of the game and how well directed and written the denouement of the story is.
Overall, a recommend for those who want to experience a well-written mystery but are willing to go though simple game mechanics and a little puzzle in the mind maps.

Auf jeden Fall!

Ein grandioses Detektivspiel für kleine und große Sherlocks.
Nachdem wir bereits die ABC Murders erfolgreich gelöst haben, begeben wir uns hier an die Anfänge der Tätigkeit von Hercules Poirot als Ermittler zurück.

In dem allerersten Fall, was gleichzeitig als Prolog und Tutorial gilt, werden wir in einem kleinen Anwesen das Verschwinden einer kostbaren Halskette aufklären, und decken dabei allerlei weitere interessante Dinge auf. die die Hauswände zu verbergen haben.

Wir lernen dort, wie man sich wie in einem normalen Adventure den Aufgaben entsprechend in Teilgebieten des Anwesens frei bewegen und Objekte begutachten und aufheben und einsetzen kann, nebenher redet man selbstverständlich auch mit den anwesenden Herrschaften und dem Personal.

Dann kommt die andere Spielhälfte zum Einsatz, die Deduktion, das Zusammensetzen von gesammelten Informationen zu neuen Knotenpunkten und Erkenntnissen, die uns neue Wege und weitere Ermittlungsoptionen ermöglichen.
Dabei kann man zum Glück nicht viel falsch machen, nach mehreren Fehlversuchen leuchten diverse Optionen auf, es werden auch nur richtige Kombinationen zugelassen, die für den streng linearen Spielverlauf vonnöten sind. Also sehr gute Nachrichten für Anfänger und Storyspieler!

Eine weitere Spielkomponente ist auch das Ausquetschen der Verdächtigen, wo man mit einer passenden Vorgehensweise (man bekommt einen Tipp für den Typus Mensch) diese zum Rausrücken von wichtigen Informationen für den Fall bewegen muss.
Dort kann man Fehler machen, was dann auch für das erreichen von Steam Errungenschaften Konsequenzen hat. Also Vorsicht, lieber vorher speichern!

Der Hauptfall ereignet sich übrigens Jahre später und basiert selbstverständlich auf den Prolog, was ich hier nicht spoilern werde.
Man befindet sich wegen einer Einladung auf einem wesentlich größeren Anwesen, was man schon eher aus den bekannten Kriminalfällen aus den verfilmten Romanen kennt.
Es gibt wie immer ein gutes Dutzend Personen, die vermutlich alle irgendetwas zu verbergen haben, irgendwelche auffälligen Aktivitäten und Begebenheiten, und plötzlich haben wir auch aus dem Nichts eine Leiche wo rumliegen.
Und keiner will es gewesen sein, alle haben angeblich Ausreden und Alibis.
Doch zum Glück sind wir vor Ort und wissen hoffentlich auch damit umzugehen.
Machen wir uns damit endlich einen großen Namen?

Das Spiel ist erfreulich lang, ohne jemals langweilig zu werden, zumindest nicht, wenn man die Filme und Bücher über Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple und sonstigen Detektiv- und Kriminalermittlern mag, dann wird man sich mitunter richtig tief in die Ermittlungen reinhängen und sich bis in die Nacht hinein den rauchenden Kopf zermatern, wer wohl was zu verbergen hat.
Wer hingegen reines Point- & Click erwartet, wird die Deduktionsphasen zwischendrin wohl eher als viel zu lang und ein lästiges Beisein abstempeln und irgendwann vielleicht ganz in den Sack hauen.
Wer sich nicht sicher ist, kauft sich das Spiel mal günstig im Sale und testet es einfach mal aus.
Es gibt weitere Fälle zu kaufen, es würde sich also am Ende vielleicht richtig lohnen.
Wer die Romanfiguren gar nicht kennt, weil er vielleicht zu jung ist, der sollte sich mal die TV Filme anschauen, oder gar die Bücher lesen. Die sind alle toll!

Zur Technik sei noch gesagt, die Grafik sieht gut aus, der Ton gefällt, besonders gut ist der Sprecher vom Hauptcharakter, das macht alles richtig autentisch, in der gewählten Ansicht kann man gut durch die Gegend laufen, und das Auffinden von interessanten Objekten ist wirklich sehr großzügig eingebaut.
Ein 100% Spielstand kann in einem Durchgang geschafft werden, man sollte halt aufpassen, dass man sich wirklich immer zuerst alles anschaut, was es in der Szene gibt, ehe man den nächsten Auslöser betätigt, alle Verhöre müssen korrekt sein, für den Rest schaut einfach eben für jeden Kapitel in die Übersicht bei Steam.
Der Schwierigkeitsgrad ist - wie oben angemerkt - viel leichter als Sherlock Holmes.

Ich hatte sehr viel Ermittlungsspaß mit diesem Spiel, die ganze Serie kann man so durchsuchten, von mir eine glatte Empfehlung!

Fazit: nicht nur was für Miss Marple :-)

One of the more enjoyable Poirot games, if you are a fan of Agatha Christies Poirot you will enjoy this game. The gameplay is mostly enjoyable and the story is intriging and doesn't overstay it's welcome. I did enjoy the puzzles and the deduction aspects. A nice enjoyable game with an interesting premise.

It's a decent game overall.

I do like CSI/detective like games but the game could do with a few quality of life improvements:
- Can't replay a chapter - if you miss something for an achievement you have to replay the whole game.
- No skipable cupscenes. Sometimes the characters go off on a rant/tirade, if you have to replay the game, unfortunately you have to listen to it all again. There is no quickening/skipping.
- The game will want you to investigate certain normal Household objects in a room for an achievement- you do get the same voiceline for every type of object, it gets dull
- When making deductions- if an error is made, you get the 2 basic same lines over and over... in a game that is about deductions, the main characters voice can get annoying.

The game itself however is quite pleasant & the story has enough plottwists to be interesting.
No replayability though in my opinion.

In Anbetracht des Erscheinungsjahres (2021) hätte ich mir eine bessere Grafik gewünscht. Und ja, es ist ein Detektivspiel, allerdings wäre es etwas weniger dialoglastig interessanter gewesen. Aktives Untersuchen/Kombinieren von Gegenständen z.B. findet so gut wie gar nicht statt, vielmehr wirkt die Umgebung eher wie eine einzige große Requisite mit starren und sich in nahezu jedem Zimmer wiederholenden Gegenständen (oh, der zehnte gleiche Kamin und die zwanzigste gleiche Standuhr). Da macht das Herumlaufen und Erkunden schnell keinen Spaß mehr.

Die Schlussfolgerungen sind in manchen Fällen an den Haaren herbeigezogen oder bereits einige Sequenzen im Vorfeld schon so offensichtlich, dass man im Grunde direkt dort weiter ermitteln könnte, aber der starre und vorgezeichnete Spielablauf erlaubt dies erst um einiges später, was sehr frustrierend ist, weil man sich bis dahin durch nicht endend wollende Befragungen klicken muss.

Die Charaktere sind allesamt stereotyp und selbst für Hercule Poirot sind vor allem die Monologe am Ende extrem langatmig und voll kaum aushaltbarem Pathos. Das letzte Kapitel gleicht einer Aneinanderreihung von pseudo-psychologischen Plattitüden.

Ich empfehle dieses Spiel nicht.

HP: The First Cases is an admirable little detective game.

Made by Scottish Indie developers, this small project may be very simple yet quite charming.
To summarize, the story and conversations are done like a visual novel while the gameplay is a isometric walking simulator.
The slow movement and basic point & click system both keep the game grounded and humble, for better or worse. What saves the game is the SUPERB voice acting and intriguing detective mystery!

The animations are decent enough to fulfill their purpose. The mansion is also beautiful.
The detective gameplay plays out mostly on the mental evidence board. You collect clues, evidence and statements and try to figure out possible connections.
It was a bit hard for me, not because the game is too difficult but because it is too easy. Having played so many detective games, I am used to a high level and expect a challenge. So it was tough lowering my standards to such a short and easy game where you as a player may have already solved the case but you have to guide Poirot through the motions of connecting baby level logic.
(example: There is a table and there is shattered glass near it, what could have possibly happened? connect the table dot with the glass dot and you get the obvious answer that the glass fell from the table and shattered... who would have guessed omg...)
The hint system is automatically on from the get go and removes all fun from the game, best to turn it off in the options menu!

I personally love detective stories like Sherlock Holmes and have played all the best Sherlock games.
I only knew Poirot from the Kenneth Branagh movies and this game, and you know what this pedantic Belgian perfectionist detective grew on me.
His methods are very different from someone genius like Sherlock. If Sherlock is like Dr. House, a puzzle solver who is lacking people skills. Then the patient and polite Poirot is like Patrick Jane, a mentalist who specializes on the psychological & emotional aspect while remaining meticulously methodical.
As a man, for me Sherlock is closer in style and nature. The Sherlock games were challenging but manageable.
Poirot was written by a woman, so adjusting to his style was a bit counter-intuitive for me. (Maybe it's just me..)

For a $2 on sale, this is a steal. Check it out if you want to explore detective games.
I am just glad I was introduced to such an interesting character like Poirot.
I'm gonna binge all seasons of the Poirot 1989 show now.

I haven't played an Agatha Christie since And Then There Were None, and I recently discovered Hercule Poirot through the ABC Murders a friend let me play. And I saw this one.

I absolutely LOVED the story. I think it was very well written and the characters were interesting. Some were just kind of there? and I didn't really get a chance to love them or anything. It had some twists and turns that shocked me and I love Hercule's sassy nature lol.

One critique is that the art that's used for the characters is like pretty different from the actual models. Neither really look BAD per se, it's just something to be aware of. I mostly stayed looking at the character art versions because I liked them better.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this for mystery lovers.

因为打折，一口气买了三作，顺着玩下来的，前两作实属简单，复杂度也不高，很平淡的就这么结束了，到了东方快车开始复杂了一点，但是也还好吧，不过还是比较喜欢前两作的任务形象设计。总体一般般吧只能说。第一案没什么特别的地方让人觉得很平淡。

总体可以给到7.5/10的一款小说改编。没读过原作的情况下我对于剧情感到新颖，但是也有许多机制降低了游戏体验。
pros：
1.能够身临其境地体验波洛的推理过程
2.自己找线索最后通过关联性推断出来很有成就感
3.难度不高不会卡关
cons：
1.走得太慢，我真的很想shift键跑起来（虽然不优雅），有时候需要前往不同的地方，蜗牛的上下楼速度让人没耐心
2. 脑中的关联图很有创意但是有的时候无法和设计者共情，配对的过程就变成了“这都不行吗”“怎么可能不是这个”
3.无法通过场景或者前置信息排除可能的另外的推断4.全成就有点稍微重复性太高
