Fun satisfying drifting game. Simple concepts done right.
I came to review after I saw it had mixed reviews, because I think it deserves I higher rating. I played this game on PS4 when it came out forever ago on PS+. Got randomly reminded of it when I saw it on steam and got it to 100% it cause I liked it so much.
At it's core, it's a game about learning it's drift mechanic. I don't know how they did it, but it really hits the simple controls with high skill ceiling that is really satisfying. It is probably 15 hours or so to 100% it on your first playthrough depending on how much you get into getting good scores.
I think the visuals and audio design complement the overall game design as well. I would recommend getting it if the trailers or any of the reviews interest you.
I have more hours on mobile and console but the mixed reviews legit come from people who can't admit they suck at the game....ngl was kinda suprised that mixed review status hit the second tower. yall just do not get it. cooked asf. like some these mfs talk about drifting SUPPOSSED TO BE FUN...like dawg it is if you can actually do it like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ drifting is not some sunday afternoon activity for anybody its truly a skill you learn you goofs. if anyone starts talkin bout some but video games are supposed to be fun you competing for gold in the stupid olympics

While looking through games from my library, I was in pretty high spirits as I looked at Absolute Drift Zen Edition (AD). It's a driving title centered around drifting, which can be tricky to pull off depending on the racer, but when designed well, can make for an exhilarating part of a race, “Yes, I'm maintaining my speed and first place position because I executed a sick drift around the gnarly corner!” The key point being that it's designed well. Making that the hallmark of your entire game could make for a fun experience. It didn't.

Although the packaging would be different, this title reminds me of the Tony Hawk skateboarding games, in the sense that in any given location, you're presented with a handful of different tasks. Unless it's on a specific racetrack though, they can be really lame, such as drifting between two lampposts. Even I can manage that, in spite of being hamstrung by terrible controls. I understand that it's a mission from not very far into the game, yet it still demonstrates a fundamental error in the game's design. Completing random goals, with no real purpose behind them, and that can be finished in a few seconds, doesn't make for compelling gameplay, “Amazing! I just drove 30 inches at a slight curve and drifted between those two objects. Another mission accomplished!”

I hate these lousy controls! Honestly, I prefer constantly screeching against the wall, making a horrible noise from my car being scratched to Hell, because it actually feels like there's any sense of control. You cannot make the slightest turns capably, and the game is designed around precise turns and angled drifts? What's even more mental is that people like it?! Every time I try doing anything it doesn't handle or respond in any consistent, coherent fashion, and it pisses me off beyond belief. Whoever added the zen edition subtitle to the game was having a laugh.

If you've ever had the misfortune of seeing me draw something, you'd know I'm the furthest thing from an artist. At most, I've gleaned a few techniques such as how parallel lines help create the illusion of depth toward a horizon. Regardless, the idea of me explaining something about art to somebody seems a farce, but when it's this glaringly obvious (pun intended), I feel a need to speak up. Contrast is incredibly important with visual design, and it's sorely lacking in AD. Most of the background is plain white, and the vehicle you're driving by default is white. When spinning out, you create smoke, which is more white amongst all of the other white. As a white man, I can comfortably say there's too much white!
Did you even play test your game?! Seriously, you never thought constant saturation of the same color might be a problem? I know the visuals aren't knee-jerk hideous, immediately making someone flinch. However, when it's so white even a polar bear would complain, it causes an issue that's just as bad, as it becomes blindingly bright. The only saving grace is how low the threshold for drifting is, with the car almost always skidding and marring the background. Congratulations, this quirk helps players from going blind.

You can change the song you're currently listening to at any time with a button press, which would be the case if you were driving a real car, so that's a nice feature. The various tunes either sound inspirational, or like dance music, which made for fun listening. Even after I dropped the volume of sound effects to half though, the constant tire squealing easily disrupts the songs, which really undermines the whole point of having them there. Since those noises aren't helpful anyways, I'd just mute them all so the music can be heard clearly.

❌ The game claims to have a tutorial, but never does the simple act of explaining how to intentionally produce a drift. For instance something like accelerate for X seconds, start turning, push the button at this angle, and steer like so. They say those who don't know how teach, but the developer couldn't even manage that much.
❌ Drifting is more fun when there's a better reason for it, like a race. Just driving around with no control and trying to crash through things randomly isn't that interesting.
❌ What's the difference between the difficulty levels? Don't worry about it, it's only something else the developer failed to explain properly.

🔍 Maybe if you close your eyes and meditate, you'll play better. It's not like the controls respond properly anyways.

Maybe there's truth to the claim that you'll get used to these controls, and it'll start making sense given time. However, I simply do not have the patience for it. In my mind, I should be able to drive a car like this normally, where adding a bit of gas shouldn't remove the ability to make basic left and right turns without feeling like somebody greased the entire road. I've tried driving slowly, changing my speeds, accelerating or hand-braking through turns, trying to course correct my direction, and it just doesn't work the way I want it to. Nothing about how that stupid car handles makes sense or feels right, making me think the developer couldn't figure out how to make a driving game with good controls, and designed around that issue, “This was completely on purpose. See, it's about drifting, so it's not supposed to work right.” Everybody else can enjoy this game, I'll be playing something else with better controls, which would be almost any other game on Steam.

Con un control exigente al principio con el que te chocarás y no conseguirás hacer bien ni el derrape más fácil. Pero esto cambia una vez el pillas el flow al derrape; encadenarás todos ellos y es ahí cuando empezarás a disfrutar del juego.
Unos gráficos minimalistas, una música muy buena para acompañarte y muchos retos con los que picarte a probar una y otra vez para ir mejorando y que no soltarás el mando hasta completarlo.
¿lo negativo? la falta de mas pruebas fuera del modo libre.

Horrible. The devs have taken something that could have been so good and turned it into an exercise in frustration. Perhaps there is a difficulty setting that I have missed but there is currently nothing 'zen' about this game.

I have a love and hate relationship with this game. Some challenges are stupildy difficult. The pro tip for this game play it on normal or hard easy is the worst difficulty in this game makes te driving incrediblly hard it´s like driving a brick. The gameplay overall is enjoyable and the artstly is simple but memorable. But for the nerves I lost thanks to this game and my destroyed game controller I give it 6/10

このゲームのいいところは、ドリフトに主眼を置き、それに特化したゲームという事です。
タイムはそれほど要求されないので、ドリフトに専念して遊べます。
リトライは爆速で、演出もよく、ユーモアもあり、やり始めるとつい時間を忘れてしまいます。
うまく走れた時は非常に気持ちがいいですね。
たまに目標として何秒以内にクリア、というのを要求されますが、目標は一度クリアすれば永続的にクリアしたことになります。
目標が達成されていないことが気になるなら、一周だけタイム重視でクリアし、その後ドリフトに専念すればいいと思います。
(ドリフトにある程度理解があればという前提付きで)目標をクリアするだけならそんなに難しくありませんが、極めようとすると奥が深いゲームだと感じました。
悪いところとして、ドリフト時のスコア獲得条件が不満でした。
スコア獲得の条件は、ドリフト中かつ車がカーブの方向を向いているときです。
ラリーゲームなどでやっていたドリフトでは全然得点にならず、そこはかなり残念に感じました。

Cuando logres dominar el coche, el juego te encantará de lo satisfactorio que se vuelve. Al principio será tosco, te chocarás y te frustrarás, pero con el tiempo irás perfeccionando una técnica que con las horas se volverá perfecta, y ahí, es ahí cuando todo será como tiene que ser.

theres 3 main things that make this negative
1. The ghosts are the exact same opacity as yourself so you cant tell which one is you (big problem)
2. the top-down angle makes it extremely difficult to predict anything about the car. Prolly cuz i'm usually a hood view driver, makes the controls feel super inconsistent.
3. The game is marketed as more of a chill game but its one of those try > fail > retry > fail > retry.. to get a good highscore
And the cherry on top is that the whole game is almost exclusively blinding white so its not easy on the eyes. that and the slanted menus

Игра веселая, не расслабляющая, как можно подумать по подзаголовку Zen Edition. Но и не выбешивает. Прошел я ее когда-то давно еще на компе с win xp, так что оптимизацию записываем в плюсы. Приятная графика, много трасс, несколько режимов. Но не прошел я ее до конца из-за управления. Поначалу можно проходить и на клавиатуре, но если хочешь выполнить все задания, то лучше делать это на контроллере, которого у меня нет.
I got this game as a part of a Yogscast Jingle Jam collection in 2022 and forgot I even had this game. Now for some reason decided to give it a try four years later and I'm glad I did.
There are few annoying challenges that made me slightly mad, but what good game doesn't have some minor annoyances?
Overall, a good and short game that has replay value if you are going for the high scores or just enjoy the drifting mechanics.

One of the most fun games I played in a while. The gameplay is really good, the music is great and the overworld between levels has fun little chalanges that are easy to complete.
However, the game is quite hard at the begining but once you get a hang of it you will master it easily. I genually think the hardest was the 2nd world, after that the chalenges get easier (or well not harder at least). But I managed to 100% it in 14h.
Anyways this is def going into my favourites and I really recommend the game to those who like racing/drifting games.

Dieses Spiel startete ich immer wieder, wenn ich gerade Zeit und Lust auf etwas Entspannung hatte. Ebenso sind die Errungenschaften ein weitere Grund dafür gewesen. Das Spiel hatte mich mit seinem ersten Trailer bereits abgeholt, da er mir einen gewissen Vibe versprach, den ich sehr fühlte. Nachdem ich das Spiel nun endlich durchgespielt habe, möchte ich euch meine Meinung dazu mitteilen.
Das Spiel "Absolute Drift Zen Edition", welches vom Entwicklerstudio "Funselektor Labs Inc." entwickelt wurde, ist ein minimalistisches Fahr- und Driftsimulationsspiel, bei dem es ausschließlich um perfekte Kontrolle, Stil und Gelassenheit hinter dem Steuer geht. Wie man es sich vielleicht schon denken kann, besteht die Aufgabe darin, in verschiedenen Arenen möglichst lange Drifts zu fahren, Punkte zu sammeln und neue Gebiete sowie Herausforderungen freizuschalten. Anders als bei klassischen Rennspielen geht es hier nicht um Geschwindigkeit oder Rundenzeiten, sondern darum, die Kunst des kontrollierten Driftens zu meistern. Die Level sind sehr schlicht sowie minimalistisch aufgebaut, aber alles wirkt dennoch, trotz der Farblosigkeit, sehr stilvoll. Die reduzierte Farbpalette, klaren Formen und der große Fokus auf Atmosphäre tragen wesentlich dazu bei, dass man sich schnell in eine ruhige, fast meditative Stimmung hineinversetzen kann. Oft sitzt man einfach nur da, lenkt seinen Wagen durch Kurven und fühlt sich trotz der Einfachheit wunderbar konzentriert und fokussiert. Jeder Drift muss gut eingeleitet und kontrolliert werden, um maximale Punkte zu erzielen. Gerade dieser Anspruch sorgt dafür, dass man sich immer wieder verbessern möchte. Auch wenn das Spiel auf den ersten Blick sehr minimalistisch wirkt, steckt hinter dem einfachen Konzept ein erstaunlich fesselndes Gameplay. Der passende Soundtrack rundet, in meinen Augen das Erlebnis perfekt ab. Das Spiel kostet rund 12€, was meiner Meinung nach ganz okay ist. Außerdem gibt es aktuell 20 Errungenschaften, welche man freischalten kann.
Ich persönlich bin zwar kein extremer Fan von derartigen Driftspielen, aber von "Absolute Drift Zen Edition" auf jeden Fall. Das Spiel ist mit Abstand eines der entspanntesten und stilvollsten Drift-Games, die ich bislang kennenlernen durfte. An Atmosphäre und einzigartigem Design kommt kaum ein anderes Game heran. Manchmal ist auch einfach weniger mehr. Meine Empfehlung hat es jeden Falls. Macht euch einfach ein eigenes Bild davon. Müsst ihr wissen.

Wygląda na łatwą grę, grafika tez nie jest jakaś szczególna, dopiero jak się wsiądzie do auta i zaczynamy robić misje to okazuje się, że się będziemy musieli trochę napocić. Zachowanie kątu żeby zdobywać punkty wraz z prędkością wcale nie jest takie proste na początku jak by się wydawało. Gra jakaś super długa nie jest więc 1 dobry wieczorek powinien starczyć.

Takes a bit to get used to the drifting physics. After trying different settings I figured it was more intuitive without the assist. But overall really fun and runs great on both Linux and Mac OS. However, the bell sound after completing a perfect drift line or a mission will haunt me in my dreams.
Relaxing. Helps one unwind after a long day! Simple but addicting. The ghost feature is great<3

É bom, é satisfatorio em fazer o drift, mas sim de certa forma é dificil. quer relaxar e fazer drift atoa? esse é teu jogo, quer zerar o jogo completando tudo? ai ja fica tiltante, mas acredito que tenha que ser assim msm, uma hora se consegue, sem pressa.
Прикольний візуал, добрий саундтрек(але іноді набридливий). Керування - це слабка сторона цієї гри, автомобілем в заносі керувати майже нереально. Може в мене навичок мало, але я схиляюсь до факту, що тут грає велику роль, поєднання трохи кривої фізики та керування, я чесно не знаю ким потрібно бути, щоб дріфтити без вирізання в стіну на кожному повороті.
Об'єктивно оцінюю на 5/10.

Loved playing this game on my Steam Deck. Started just playing for a few mins at a time and before I knew it I had finished 100% of the game. Absolutely loved it.
Took me 2 hours to play through the tutorial. I'm still bad at it. It's a good game to just tune out to.
This game is the opposite of Zen. I've never been more stressed out by drifting controls, it is not new player friendly. You really need to spend some time figuring out the controls, and then throw that out when the controls just randomly reverse themselves on a crash...
看似簡簡單單的賽車遊戲，但沒想到操控起來比想像中還要有難度，基本上遊戲訣竅在新手模式時都有提示，真的是一款完全不能急的賽車遊戲，它的重點都放在怎麼"飄移"，當真的漂移出完美的弧形時，成就感滿滿！
PS.1：也不知道是怎麼玩的，我的漂移每次都是車身轉360度一圈的詭異飄移，但看著挺有趣。
PS.2：本身遊戲難度算高的，上手需要一定時間，玩得穩更需要集中力，不推薦給輕鬆向玩家。

Really fun and satisfying. The game rewards skill a lot which I like because it really shows how good you are at the game. The extra challenges you gane give yourself with the global leaderboard are nice and beenig able to see the replays of other people is very cool.
The only thing you have to consider when buying this game is that it might take you some time to learn the mechanics so don't expect to be top ten percent right from the get go.

Egyszerűen nem tudom megszeretni ezt a játékot, nem lehet megszokni az irányítást, van amikor a legkisebb mozdulatra is teljesen kipörög az autó, van amikor szeretnél kisebb drifteket csinálni, fánkot vagy bármi ilyesmit, azt felejtsd el az összkerékhajtás teljesen lehetetlenné teszi hogy kicsi ívekket tarts folyamatosan. A grafika a maga a világához képest megfelelő, arra nem lehet senkinek egy szava se. Az autó hangja igazából az első órában még jópofa, élvezhető, egy idő után inkább csak irritáló. Ha sikerül elkapni az ívet ami azért tegyük hozzá egész ritka, hiába mentél végig a pályán 30 alkalommal, rendszeresen van olyan hogy nem csúszik az autó eléggé ergo nem érzékeli drift-nek így simán el tudod bukni a szorzót mert ő úgy érzékeli hogy ez nem drift. a sebességmérő hiánya igazából olcsó játékról beszélünk, szóval hogy nincsen benne... így jártunk... Ettől a fizikától engem a rosszullét kerülgetett, ez nem tudom hogy miből lett kitalálva vagy honnan lett szedve de ez valami főrtelem... Ha unatkozol és úgy érzed hogy túl nyugodtan a nap, akkor igazából nyugodtan leülhetsz vele játszani, garancia hogy 20 perc alatt teljesen föl fogja húzni az idegeidet. Arra számítani kell hogy ez nem olyan játék mint akármelyik másik hogy leülsz és órákon keresztül képes vagy játszani... ez egy tíz perces unaloműző. Leértékelve egy-két euróért azt mondtam hogy megéri ...ott lesz a könyvtáratban, nagyon ritkán előszeded amikor nem akarsz normális rallys játékkal játszani ,de 11-12 euróért ez szerintem rablás.

My eyes literally hurts from this game, way too bright and did not find any dark theme option.
Great game and all with straight forward mechanics and nice features, graphics and a well chosen soundtrack. Too bad the physics feel like they were made by someone who has never drifted before, very arcade like and artificial. Still a solid time waster for relaxed playing.
It's all about the drift. The game is divided into open areas called worlds and also levels which are a mixture of sprint tracks and also arenas. The drift mechanics are quite fun and it is truly a difficult game to master. Fun, but short experience the only thing I would have loved is more cars and also a way to fast travel between the worlds or a map because navigating can be a little bit tricky at times.

The drifting is perfect, which is good because that's the only thing in this game besides the music which is also fitting. The free roam is chill and the arcade tracks are a bit challenging.
I hate the perfect drift lines with a burning passion. Enjoyed every bit of this game until I meet that stupid requirement. Sometimes it registers me drifting despite my car being fully straight, other times it doesn't count me holding an angle as a drift. Thank god Art of Rally was such a massive improvement over this.

Picked this up after falling deep for Art Of Rally. This has the drift mechanics amplified perfectly, simple graphics, addictive gameplay. Fan-f'in-tastic on the Steam Deck. It's an amazing little game that i just keep picking up. I can get another clipping point this time, i'm sure of it.
I got the game when it was on sale. It was very fun. Was a bit difficult at first but once you get the hang of it, its awesome!
how do i drift
Very arcade-y feel and very fun to play. Standard controls are fun, but it looks like you can configure a clutch keybind to initiate drifts with clutch kick. Funselektor also has some other pretty cool games I want to own
This game is a solid 8/10. Playing it after getting bored/freaked out of all that stressful games is the best experience you can ever have. The sound and everything is so relaxing and the physics are beautiful.
Only bad thing I saw it's a lot of events are very difficult
