A mostly text based detective game that requires to think and connect different clues before accusing someone. My only gripe? This game is short!

The visual style fits this genre and the setting during the Prohibition years is a nice touch. The sound design is amazing and the Jazz music in the background - fits just right in. There's no voiceover and I believe proper voiceover would elevate the experience to a higher level, although it does come with it fair share of production costs.

My other gripe is that you need to erase the existing save data before starting a new game, which I found as irrelevant. Adding tidbits of those yesteryear stories as part of Taxi ride conversations was an unexpected bonus!

Though there might not be much replayability, it still delivers an awesome gameplay.

Черно-белые картинки, джаз, все дела. Ищешь улики, допрашиваешь подозреваемых, ловишь на противоречиях. Проходится часа за 3-4, но я на опыте прошёл быстрее. Досталась благодаря Humble Bundle. В целом норм, если хочется детектив на вечер. При прохождении нужен высокого уровня английский язык

A Case of Distrust, the text-based detective debut game by Ben Wander, is a mixed bag. Presentation-wise, it is stunning: the use of silhouettes for the characters and environments, the unobtrusive but wonderfully atmospheric background music, and the creatively animated transitions between scenes all cooperate to create a stylish experience. Look past the pretty packaging, however, and you'll find a rather bland story, with characters that remain one-dimensional throughout the whole game. Even the main character, who is the only person to also have their inner life described, is still quite dull and sterile. The story has a clear focus on emancipation and women's rights, but in such an overly explained way that it never felt genuine or lived in. The plot twists feel forced and nonsensical, and by the end, even the artful user interface started to annoy me as I was trying to piece together this contrived narrative. A Case of Distrust is a short game, but halfway through its 3-hour runtime, I was already longing for it to conclude.

Great short detective game, though not with an insane impact, just a delightful short story in my opinion. What really sparkles is the beautiful design, reminiscent of the good old Hotel Dusk games, and the well-written dialogue and, at least from what I can tell, well-researched and authentic-feeling 1930s setting.

Caveats:
1. The game is kinda annoying to play with the standard steam deck control scheme and I have not found a better control scheme. Which is a shame, this was very cozy for reading in bed. You're forced to use the trackpad, and while that works well enough, but it could be better.
2. Lotta travelling back and forth between places just to confirm one or two more statements. But again, that is not so bad, the travelling is accompanied by unique taxicab chats and it's really well written and interesting to read.

All in all, for a couple bucks and about 2-3 hours of entertainment, I think it's solid.

A great detective game with immaculate style and atmosphere, unfortunately bogged down by a somewhat disappointing ending (not going to elaborate too much on this for spoiler reasons).

I want to give special praise to how the game mechanics are introduced. Starting off with a cat is thematically perfect because it removes all stakes (even though there aren't any real stakes throughout the game, as long as you don't randomly accuse people).

Admittedly, the price is a little steep for what it offers, but still highly recommended if on sale.

хеймплейно уныло перебирать варианты увиденных вещей из за чего еще непонятно причем тут детектив если можно тупо все перетыкать с каждым персонажем а с учетом того что их тут мало то вообще проблем не возникнет

стилистика и атмосферность хороши хоть и показаться банальными для самого жанра, мне впринципи понравилось

ну а по сюжету могу лишь добавить что он существует, на этом все

Интересная визуальная новелла, немного скучная и пресная для меня, но тем не менее заслуживает внимания. Неспешное прохождение и исследование обстоятельств дела (а вернее, нескольких дел) на пару часов позволят расслабиться и получить удовольствие, как от неплохого детектива. Интересные повороты сюжета ждут. Я бы только побольше раскрасила и прорисовала персонажей и убрала возможность задавать всем героям вопросы про все доказательства и заявления друг друга, поскольку очень надоедает. А так приятное неспешное расследование с возможностью атмосферно окунуться в одну из прошлых эпох...10 рыжих котиков из 10, как и 10 пальто дядюшки из 10))) P.S. Почему все без глаз кроме кота?!?!? Это обстоятельство осталось нераскрытым...

氛围营造得不错，美术风格很适合这个故事。案件本身不复杂，完成家访就可以解开真相，流程大约二小时左右。但是作为推理解谜游戏，最终的真相不能通过线索直接推理得出，即使玩家对真凶产生怀疑也不能用线索与真凶对质，而是由证人直接说出的，是个糟糕的设计。

[spoiler]Like I had cliked acuse only because there was no dialog left. a fun little visual novel that lets you assume the role of a female PI in the 1920s. it's charming, with a minimalistic artstyle, interesting characters, and a mystery that may not be groundbreakingly new but still works out quite fine. the storybeats are pretty linear, although you get to decide which clue to investigate first.
honestly, i just really enjoyed the vibes and the character art. i wasn't blown away with the story, but i also didn't expect to be and i think this game does well what it intends to do.
i'd recommend getting it while on sale however!

I had a good time with this game, the art, style and music goes a long way.
The actual case didn't dissapoint me, maybe it isn't as amazing and complexe as others would want it to be, but then again, it is a [b]short[/b] game, so don't expect the suspense to drag on for ages: it took less than 4 hours to finish.
Base price is harsh but it can be found cheap.

A Case of Distrust is a narrative-based detective visual novel game. In it, you play as Phyllis, a private investigator who is hired to solve a mystery surrounding a threatening note sent from an anonymous source.

The stylized nature of the game is very nice, the music perfectly captures the atmosphere, and the narrative itself is interesting. The game doesn't overstay its welcome, but also manages to tell a complete and comprehensive story.

Really, the only thing I didn't quite like about this game is how you go about getting information from characters. You basically look around your environment and write down items of note, and then ask characters about them. As they state things, you also write down statements of note and then you can ask other characters about those statements. That's all fine and good, but you have to ask specific characters about specific items and/or statements to progress the story. Sometimes it is relatively obvious what you need to ask someone about, but sometimes it is obscure. There were a few times where I didn't seem to be getting anywhere with my questioning, so I went down the list one by one, which isn't the most engaging or fun. It also felt like it should have been a slightly smoother process in terms of UI. While this isn't necessarily a huge issue in itself, it had a relatively high negative impact on the overall gameplay given it's a core part of how you proceed through the game.

I think the game is too expensive for its length, as I completed it in exactly two hours. Although replayability is technically there (as there are certain dialogue options you can choose from, but you would already know the solution to the mystery), it's definitely on the lower side. I think additional length is mostly going to come from people getting stuck with progressing the story (i.e., not asking the right person about the right thing) as opposed to actual content. That said, it's a nicely put together game with interesting characters, story, and art design and worth it on a ~50% off sale,

I was drawn to the style of this game right away but other than the aesthetics, I admittedly was not expecting much from it. What a truly pleasant little surprise this game was! I really enjoyed the writing of this game. Characters felt alive and I felt myself trying to constantly guess who was responsible for the mysteries in the story. Simple interlude conversations with the taxi drivers felt rich, despite the fact that they were meant to be short transition scenes in the narrative. There's charisma and charm in the presentation and execution of this game. It's short but I don't hate that. I like games that feel complete and I actually oppose bloated experiences that feel like it's overstaying their welcome or simply prolonging my time spent in one world. While it may seem too short to purchase full price (although I think that it's fine given the quality of the experience), you should definitely pick it up on sale if you're interested in a stylistic, strong noir narrative experience.

What a fun, little detective game this was! A case of distrust follows a Sherlock Holmes style game as you interact with many clues, and interact with people in different places. The layout of the game is quite unique, with it's sliding animations and zooming in/out effects, that makes it very smooth and flows nicely to the eyes. The colour scheme is so simplistic and monotone, yet works nicely in highlighting which items (i.e Door, bar shaker, ice box, person) can be interacted with.
There's settings to adjust the mouse sensitivity and graphics - it's just missing the ability to adjust the audio settings.
But by no means was the music bad. It's simple and fitting to the genre of the game, but just too repetitive for me that I wanted to mute it to play my own music.
The notes are one of the other unique aspects of this game, where you must use your evidence to contradict people and suspects. And without giving away too much of the story, it does come to a fulfilling conclusion on who left the threatening note to our MC.
This game deserves all the Indie awards it has won, and I am happy to recommend A case of Distrust to my friends!

购入本作是被女性侦探主角和简约复古的画风吸引，游玩后在这两点上确实没有让我失望：在本作所讲的故事中和1920s一战以及第一次女权运动后的背景下，主角的女性身份都有不可替代性；游戏内的画面UI都非常精致，动画和字体的细节也呈现了和背景匹配的类复古剪报质感。（p.s. 虽然标示steamdeck不适配，但我个人全程都能流畅游玩，还内置设置可调节字体大小，可比很多绿标游戏都强）

我个人对于本作的负面感受一方面涉及剧情（会在下面的大片黑条[u]全剧透[/u]说明），另一方面是探案的玩法体验。本作的玩法主要靠调查场景细节和与人物对话后，用调查到的线索继续盘问人物获得新线索。玩法在第一部分的感受还算不错，但是到了第二部分场景和线索都增多的情况下，会触发有效对话的线索在不同场景中却有高度重复。在几十条线索里翻来翻去反复尝试对话的体验感也着实不算好，这个缺点在整体的解谜引导指向也不算清晰的前提下更是突出。

[spoiler]之前提到在本作之中主角的女性身份不可替代，其实这也意味着如果是玩家以女性的身份代入主角，可能会收获在1920s的美国成为一名女性职业侦探的窒息感。女主Phyllis一开始成为警探是需要叔叔引荐担保的，叔叔去世后是无法继续在警局待下去的，自立门户当私家侦探后是接不到正经案子穷得揭不开锅的，好不容易接到一个案子但客户是只拿她当假死计划的棋子的，出门调查线索是要面对一堆老白㽖的不屑蔑视的，最后发现故事里她最信任的朋友Frankie也是一个不相信她的能力“为了保护她”而作案的杀人犯。真是好点题，a case of distrust是指从社会到个人只因Phyllis是女性就对她能力的不信任。玩完第一幕时到第二幕的过场剧情中，Phyllis遭遇了车祸，昏迷后看见的幻觉是去世叔叔的遗物风衣变化成了蒙蒙大雨的灰色天空罩下来包裹住她，让她喘不过气来直到窒息。窒息感确实也是我作为玩家在这时的体会。

以上看起来可能很像夸，但接下来确实要吐槽了…整个流程中从各个方面算是很直白（有些地方真的有引用知名的口号）又带点黑色幽默地写了Phyllis无解的女性困境。但是恰恰是这个点题的结尾后，却出现了抓捕/放过Frankie的选项，似乎想让看完这个讽刺故事的玩家在此时陷入道德困境。我个人是对于Frankie没看出什么感情来直接选了抓，但想想如果代入Phyllis来说选哪个好像都挺恶心的。再看到后记里Phyllis穿上了叔叔那件曾让她感到窒息的风衣继续她的事业，弹出的成就叫a new look，我心情挺五味杂陈的。

La historia es buena, y el arte es magnífico.
Pero tiene fallos como juego. Entiendo que la idea de que cada vez que vayas a una localización cojas un taxi, para tener las conversaciones con los taxistas y meterte en el ambiente, pero corta todo el flujo del juego.
Además, algunas de las pruebas y pistas son innecesariamente complejas de conseguir.
Buena obra de arte, pero mal juego, por desgracia.

Nice detective game, particularly recommended to noir lovers.

The art style is beautiful, although not always functional (in this kind of game, you'll have to go back and forth between locations, and some transitions after a while become annoying).

The story and the characters are very well written, but when things seem to spice up, the game ends, so the overall feeling is of a prequel to a deeper, longer game.

Anyway, I paid just a few euros for the game, and I think that for 3,5 hours of playing time, it is truly a fair price.

I particularly enjoyed the deepening notions of the roaring twenties, you can optionally get talking to cab drivers.

A Case of Distrust has many features that set it apart from generic point-and-click adventures; however, it feels more like a demo than a complete game. And even in that short time, it tested my patience due to some questionable design choices.

The main standout feature is its shift away from traditional inventory management in favor of knowledge management. You investigate your surroundings to uncover evidence, talk to people to gather statements, and then use this information in conversations to extract new leads. For instance, you can learn the whereabouts of key suspects. This cycle continues until you have amassed enough evidence to press charges.

However, as intriguing as this may sound, the actual gameplay quickly becomes tedious. Contrary to what I said above, there is no real system for managing the knowledge you acquire. The game doesn’t help you discern which pieces of intelligence are relevant to a specific person. In many cases, you’ll receive nothing more than a dismissive excuse, as the person has nothing to add. Even then, the game fails to mark that topic as covered, making it easy to forget and repeat the same action with the same fruitless result. When stuck, I found myself resorting to brute force—talking to everyone about everything in hopes of stumbling upon progress.

A Case of Distrust also stands out with its striking visual style and unique user interface. The UI has a distinct charm, as each action is accompanied by a small animation. However, this initial appeal quickly wears off. At first, exploring new locations feels immersive, and the slower pace is forgivable. But as the game progresses and you need to repeat the same actions ad nauseam, the UI begins to feel like an obstacle rather than an enhancement. For instance, switching between locations requires seven clicks, each punctuated by a brief but frustrating delay.

Plot-wise, it’s serviceable—nothing extraordinary, but with more cases and polish, the knowledge-based approach could shine. The only persistent gripe I had was the protagonist’s constant lamenting about the hardships of being a policewoman—it verged on grating rather than adding depth to her character.

The story is well-written, believable, and filled with twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. "A Case of Distrust" cechuje się bardzo charakterystycznym stylem graficznym oraz imersyjnymi opisami, wprowadzającymi gracza w świat San Francisco sprzed wieku. Bardzo spodobał mi się również sposób schemat rozwiązywania całej sprawy, choć nie jest to symulator bycia detektywem - czego tez nie należałoby oczekiwać. Jedyny zgrzyt, jaki miałem podczas grania w grę, to to, że w pewnym momencie nie zdałem sobie sprawy z tego, że mogę wyciągnąć nowe informacje o pewnym przedmiocie, kiedy zmienił się jego stan. Polecam, chociaż raczej na przecenie.

It challenged me to think rationally, considering every possibility, and truly embody the role of a detective.
The minimalist graphics worked well with the atmosphere, and the background, along with the characters introduced. Progression was smooth and can be completed in around three hours.

15 bucks seems a bit much, but aside from that, I would give it a 7 out of 10.

游戏的2D立绘和音乐的搭配也是相当完美，音乐悠长而又带有一丝悬疑，画面中人物的形象伴随着玩家不同对话，而不停地变化姿势与表情，完全刻画了一个生动的人，表现力十足。

游戏的流程不长，大概在5h左右，但苦于英文的大量阅读，所以只对有耐心和对英语实力有自信的玩家推荐，对于成就档也比较友好，稍微看下攻略一遍即可全成就，且流程很短补的话也相当容易。

My only big complaint was that there's a setup to contradict things people say, and I wish they had done more with it, where you'd at least catch the final perp in some big lie via contradicting, but it's more just accusing the person after you've gathered enough evidence and they then just give themselves up.

One random great thing worth mentioning: Color coding environments with the suspects you're interviewing is pretty effective.

One random bad thing: You do lose a lot by not including pupils or irises in the character art. Maybe that's intentional but I think it means most characters are constrained to miming things or having big eyebrow movements. Not game breaking but once you see it, you can't not notice.

1924, San Francisco, Phyllis Cadence Malone leaves the police force following the death of her uncle Lewis and becomes, like him, a private detective.
One morning, Mr.Green, smuggler and police informer, pushes open Phyllis's office door. In recent weeks, he has been receiving threatening letters signed by a certain “Black Hand”. When Green is found dead, vows to continue investigating the case to discover the identity of his murderer.

Let's make it clear right away: the scenario of [i]A Case of Distrust[/i] is greatly enhanced by its graphic style, which I'll talk about later.
Although pleasant, it has a rather abrupt and disappointing ending. The plot-twists present during the adventure don't really have the impact they should and my reaction was closer to an “Oh, okay.” than an “Oh my God!”.
Apart from these minor hiccups, it's easy to get caught up in the investigation and enjoy discovering new clues and questioning our suspects. The story doesn't drag on too long, but it's not too short either.

[h1]Gameplay[/h1]

[i]A Case of Distrust[/i] is a familiar point-and-click experience. You interact with the scenery and characters to advance the investigation. While it doesn't offer anything revolutionary, the gameplay is the perfect support for the story that the game brings to life.

The investigation mechanics are quite original (your progress and clues are noted in a notebook, you can then mention them to the suspects during the interviews you have with them), although it can be a little frustrating if you don't have the right information to move the investigation forward. So you can get stuck pretty easily if you don't think to mention a piece of information to a suspect.

[h1]Artstyle[/h1]

If you'd asked me to describe a noir thriller set in the 1920s, I'd have described [i]A Case of Distrust[/i].
The simplicity of the artstyle is its greatest strength, with minimalist graphics that leave room for our own imagination while making it easy to identify the characters through their different color codes.
I sincerely believe that the game would not have aroused the same interest in me if it had been in 3D, and that I would have been less determined to finish the investigation.
In short, minimalist graphics, yes, but extremely effective and relevant.

[h1]Conclusion[/h1]

Would [i]A Case of Distrust[/i] then be a near-perfect game?
Unfortunately, far from it.
While, as I said, the art direction is excellent and the gameplay pleasant, the game is not without its faults.
Unfortunately, Malone's character can lack depth, making dialogue heavy-handed. What's more, the game suffers from a slowdown or even a drop in quality in its second half.
This feeling culminates at the end of the story, which seems out of sync with the entire narrative set up to this point.

What's more, if I mentionned the innovative side of clue selection during discussions with witnesses, this can quickly become a game of “trial & error” where you try everything you can to advance the plot.
Couple this with a non-existent diversity of answers for anything that doesn't advance the investigation, and you get a sometimes frustrating mix.

Even so, I'd still recommend this game, as its length is short enough that these points of frustration don't become unbearable.
You'll enjoy a good two hours, punctuated by a few sighs of frustration.

I want to give this mostly a neutral review so I'll break it down into Pros and Cons.

Pros
- The overall "detective" mechanics:
-- Clicking objects/finding clues.
-- Collecting statements from suspects/witnesses.
-- Lots of red herrings.
-- The option to contradict statements.
-- Requiring means, opportunity and motive to accuse a suspect.
- The art style.
- The music.
- The setting.

Cons
- The story is a bit weak and cliche.
- The "Contradict" mechanic is great, but I did not need to use it much at all. I like detective games so I can catch suspects out on a lie but I feel that there wasn't enough opportunity to do this.
- The main character's back story is only briefly touched on. If you care about this, it will leave you wishing there was more effort put here. There are some throw away dialogue options, but they ultimately mean nothing.
- The taxi. Needing to go through an additional taxi menu after clicking the destination you want is an unnecessary step. It is only there to prompt for optional dialogue with the taxi driver. There should be an option to skip this for players that don't want to experience the taxi conversations. That said, I still went through them all on my first playthrough, because I like to be thorough.
- The ending. You are forced to accuse even though your case is not air tight. I had exhausted all avenues and still wasn't left with a suspect that left zero doubt. I ended up looking up the solution and was shocked. In reality, the final suspect would easily get off as there was no clear connection of evidence to the suspect. It was more that they "could have". There is ultimately a reason for this, because [spoiler]they didn't actually do it,[/spoiler] but it felt like a giant copout.

In conclusion, I enjoyed most of my time with this game, but the ending disappointed me. With a bit of tightening up to tie the killer to an [u]indisputable[/u] means, opportunity and motive, I would have had no issue recommending this game, but instead I am left sitting on the fence. Pick this one up when it is on sale.

Gonna have to go with a no on this one.

It’s a mystery game where you have no reason to be attached to any of the characters, and the mystery itself is very boring and overall expectable. While the art style is distinct and charming, style over substance causes even simple things like advancing the dialogue to be frustrating because each line of dialogue places the button to advance at a different part of the screen. At one point, when I was going quickly through something I had already read, I also had the dialogue skip part of itself and lock me out of progression until I reloaded my save.

There are far too many pointless pieces of evidence that clutter up your notebook for no reason, and often the solution just boils down to throwing things at the npcs until they happen to say what you want. There is an option to contradict the statements you are given on occasion, but I think I actually used it maybe once, since it’s pretty much unnecessary. I don’t understand why the feature was there. In general, talking to characters felt lifeless and robotic, just pushing buttons to move on.

The ending is very frustrating and further soils what was already a pretty bog-standard mystery plot. I wanted to like this game with how interesting the style is, but it leaves much to be desired.

Enjoyed this very much. The mystery is a little straightforward (again, ignore the playtime because I left this running) but the art direction is stylish and the soundtrack is strong. I would say that you can probably get through this in 2.5 - 3 hours. I also really loved the flavour that the conversations with the taxi drivers gave.

I would love to see a sequel with more to it, but this was a perfect snack-sized noir detective game!

И если графика ещё вроде вызывает какие-то интересы, то вот сама механика уже не очень. Тут по сути просто показываешь натыканные предметы говорящим головам с последующим прочтением одних и тех же фраз. То есть диалог не разнообразится, а остаётся в пределах заданного до момента натыкивания нужной вещи. Может со знанием английского этот момент воспринимается попроще, но вот без русского перевода тяжелее.

Также некоторые проблемы отзывчивости опций. Вроде бы тут нет повода для торможения, но отзывчивость какая-то медленная.

В остальном же остаётся дождаться русского перевода, если он когда-нибудь случится.

I'm surprised to see that this has no sequel or series yet. Super stylish presentation with good music and solid writing (the cab conversations are best tbh). I would have liked to see more character growth (or backstory) as PC tackles more cases!
The game is a bit short (3-4 hours) and has only one case to solve, so if time/value is important to you, possibly get it on sale.

Im Sale mal für 2-3 Euro mitgenommen. Kleines Detektiv Abenteuer mit ein bisschen Noir Flare. Ich habe das Game zweimal durchgespielt. Einmal Story und einmal um fehlende Errungenschaften nachzuholen, da dann aber mit Guide. Ein gewisser Grad an Englischkenntnissen sollte man aber voraussetzen, da das Game fast nur aus Text besteht.

"A Case of Distrust" looked promising with its noir aesthetics and intriguing premise, but unfortunately, it's unplayable in its current state. The mouse movement slows to a crawl, making it nearly impossible to click on the dialogue advancement arrow or scroll around the screen to search for clues. This technical issue severely hampers the gameplay experience, rendering the game unplayable. If the developers ever upload a patch to fix this, I would be willing to give it another try. Until then, it's just a waste of Steam library space.

Der Stil dieser visuell Novel hatte mich sofort in ihren Bann gezogen, die kräftigen Farben und interessanten Hintergründe sind einfach wunderbar - bis man ihnen überdrüssig wird. Überraschend schnell "verschwamm" für mich alles. Die Charaktere wären mir viel besser in Erinnerung geblieben, hätten sie passende und aussagekräftigere Porträts gehabt.

Der Einstieg ist phänomenal und man möchte direkt dem Fall auf den Grund gehen, nur setzte sich dann rasch Ernüchterung ein:

[spoiler] Der erste Dialog ist sehr ambivalent geschrieben, man wird in seinem Apartment "überfallen", aber man war sich sicher, die Türen geschlossen zu haben. Dann war es wohl das Fenster. Man kann das Messer zücken oder direkt aufgeben, weil es sowieso keinen Sinn hat. Man blickt tief in die Augen. Und es stellt sich heraus, es ist eine Katze. Wenn man das Messer zückt, so schneidet man etwas von seinem Apfel ab und gibt es ihm.

Wunderbar toll geschrieben, nur leider vermisste ich diese Art des Writing im restlichen Spiel [/spoiler]

Spoiler zum ersten Negativpunkt der Geschichte
[spoiler] Man erhält den Auftrag einen Drohbrief zu untersuchen. Was wird das erste sein, das ich mache? Ja genau, ich spreche den vermutlichen Versender (wir haben es hier mit Gangs zu tun) direkt darauf an, ohne irgendwelche Nachforschungen betreiben zu können.

Ok, here you are a super condensed review: take the skeleton of a classic graphic adventure, leave just 1-2 objects to find, and leave just the dialogues. For the graphics, choose a stylish and minimal one.
Bring the atmosphere of a hardboiled novel, put a background music of that time.
So? What about the result? Neutral/Good imho. I could expect something more from the plot (even if I appreciated the ending) and from the music. Nice exercise of style, but if you want to face the hardboiled USA, please pass to L.A. Noire and leave this to a rainy afternoon with a cup of tea.

感觉这部作品比起推理其实更重剧情和悬疑氛围，推理的部分基本很简单[strike] 而且询问线索的地方可以穷举法询问 [/strike]。
可能是因为剧情需要，最后的指控部分，个人感觉也只是找到了一个具备动机、有作案时间、能获得凶器实施杀人的嫌疑人。即：此人有可能是凶手，但并不能断言这人就是凶手。指控时我真的好心虚，就这点来说不是十分畅快，感觉推理的存在感很弱。

[h1] 关于剧情 [/h1]
（此部分全都不具有参考价值，因为游玩时间跨度巨大且本人英语水平真的稀烂，写这个只是为了抒发我的表达欲）
我不了解那个年代的美国的大背景，不然应该能对制作组用心穿插的各种出租车司机逸闻产生一些共鸣。不过即使如此从人物言行和出租车逸闻里也能捕捉到一些那个时代的片段剪影。
结局纠结了很久，虽然最后都选了一次。每一个结局都有自己的深意，唯一的共同之处是看到时我都流下了眼泪。案件感觉也是一个时代背景的小小缩影，[spoiler] 是死者该死、行凶者善良正义的情况， [/spoiler]也就体现得结局的选择更加沉重。不过女主角最后说的话非常好，和游戏的名字相呼应了，[spoiler] “归根结底你们都是轻视我/不信任我。”，才会选择聘任女主，或是选择杀人 [/spoiler]。
以下一些关于角色的碎碎念：

背景和设定很详细，个性很鲜明，其实有名字但我不确定音译应该打成什么。[strike] 由于开头比较多介绍女主角的部分是我大概19年的时候玩到的，写评测期间已经忘掉了大半，导致后期有一些明显和女主角背景联动的部分我get不到…！！！（恨） [/strike]即使是这样也能感觉女主角是一个独立而坚持个人志愿生活、友善的人，在一些对话上也能感受到女主角的幽默感。综合来说女主角是很有魅力的。
另一个值得一提的点是，游戏设定在一个对女性更严苛的时代，但是女主角（包括其他的女性角色）面临这些困境时所展示出的应对态度在我看来都各有自己的态度。也正因如此我个人更喜欢女性侦探为主视角的游戏。

[b] -格林太太 [/b]
个人不太确定游戏里是否有提过格林太太的全名，在此还是以格林太太称呼她。
格林太太是个前后反差很大的角色，一开始以一个“试图捉奸、全心全意扑在丈夫身上”的角色出现，给人感觉是一个非常传统的女性。但是随着故事的深入，会发现她后来[spoiler] 与原生家庭切割、 [/spoiler]私奔结婚、做歌女、[spoiler] 婚内出轨 [/spoiler]都是出于自己的意志，是她想要过上自己想要生活的一种手段，[spoiler] 万事万物皆可是一种利用手段。 [/spoiler]
[spoiler] 她为了解决她遇到的问题做了很多她不喜欢做的事，但无一不是试图以自己的方式解决问题。可能她的想法或手段看来大多依附于男人/偏激/不恰当。但是在当时的环境下（从她的自述和许多对女主角的议论和出租车闲聊内容可以感觉到），我依然觉得她无疑是一个为了自己而活的女性。她是如此地想要为自己而活，她所采取的方式（在他人看来）如此暴烈也就变得能够理解了。 [/spoiler]

[b] -另一位歌女（忘了名字，看英文使我头昏眼花） [/b]
作为亚裔混血女性，她的社会地位则更加低微。这也决定了她比格林太太还被动，只能背靠他人而生。[spoiler] 她对小保罗是没有感情的，她应该也很清楚小保罗对她并不是真爱，毕竟如她所说（如果我没有理解错误的话），除了能答应他，她实际上别无选择选择。 [/spoiler]

[spoiler] 其实我觉得最有意思的是他和格林太太之间的关系。格林太太因为他和另一位歌女同居而断言他爱她（我觉得这在一定程度上体现了格林太太的恋爱观，对她来说能做到如此地步就已经是爱，大概反推她也是这样的。某种意义上来讲格林太太在某些方面也算是个单纯的人），但小保罗对这段关系的态度却只是玩玩。这样的小保罗却会给格林太太买花献殷勤，会因为格林先生死了而高兴。虽然买花也好、因为格林先生的死亡而高兴也好，都可以有其他解释，但我觉得假如小保罗对格林太太有多几分真心的话会很有趣。 [/spoiler]

剧情上的黑马，一开始以为只是个普通侦探标配的探讨剧情的知心朋友，结果没想到……开头女主角对他的很多评价我都遗忘了，所以结局我的体验其实并不完美。等我二周目的时候会继续补充。
他无疑是温柔的、善良的、正直的、具有同情心的，坦白时我的心都在颤抖。可是女主角也说得对，因此这更让我觉得痛心。他是整个故事中可以说女主角唯一一个完全信任的人，但他却并没有真正的信任她。（由于各种各样的原因）他们之间实际上隔着一层可悲的障壁，从一开始他们的情谊可能就没有建立在一个平等的角度（虽然双方在此之前都没有意识到，而我相信最后他们是可以说开的，两位都是非常好的人，也是被困在了时代里的人） [/spoiler]

[h1] 玩法和其他 [/h1]
从玩法上来说其实有些枯燥（但非常经典和朴实），点击探索搜集证据还有在不同地方移动进行问话，体感选项不会严重影响剧情走向。
美术、音乐风格和题材还挺戳我的。最后的四处收集线索和询问环节点多了有点审美疲劳[strike] （其实出租车逸闻到最后我也有点懒得看了，因为每一次" TALK" 都是一次大型英语阅读理解） [/strike]，做不到非常快捷快速的完成操作，点选麻烦，不过游戏流程其实也不长，这点我觉得无伤大雅。

个人觉得是一款很不错的游戏，可惜我没有文化，游戏里更深层次的内容（社会文化背景、历史因素、文本风格和文采）是我难以切身体会到的。感谢制作组带来的这款游戏和这个故事！[strike] 有官中就更好了！ [/strike]

This game is cool but was ultimately too short and had too many negatives on my part to be worth $15.

Clue system is cool but the list gets way too cluttered with unnecessary items such as "my fridge is empty" or "this guy has his shoes off" - I get this is supposed to add challenge and not allow things to be too easy but some of these are a stretch to be useful. It is also frustrating to have to go through extra animations in order to select clues & travel between locations. I will say the sound design is good but there could have been more done to add some aspect of voice acting.

The writing in A case of distrust is pretty good and despite the many characters, i was able to followe the story.

The story is okay, there are a number of twists and turn that are not as surprising as they are probably supposed to be. Many destails are very on the nose and there is not much to actually think about/ clues to connect.

I was also very disappointed by the ending, you figure out the purpatrator (means, opportunity and motive) only for the story to go a completely different direction in the end.

For about 2 hours of playtime i also think that full price is a bit much.

This game is a perfect example of doing more with less. It's not a particularly long game, but the story is engrossing, and the minimalist art style helps to keep your attention focused on the story, the logical conversation-based puzzles, and character-building moments. As a fan of detective stories and crime noir, I really wanted to like this game. Honestly though the pacing is incredibly slow, the story is not gripping, and the gameplay is lacking. Overall the game has a good sense of style that makes it stand out, but the story is too slow and the gameplay is too bland to keep my attention.

I've always wanted to play a game that presents a complex case that needs to be solved. This game provided me with just that. I loved that you can come up with your own conclusions after interacting with the characters and use your notes to argue and disprove their statements.
This game is a wonderful noir murder case wrapped in beautiful visuals and followed with a great jazz track.
There's a lot of attention to detail, not just in art, but in jargon used by characters, clues, and more.
I've enjoyed the game and I recommend it to all couch detectives!

Stylowa gra detektywistyczna na paragrafowym silniku Ink, więc musiała mi się spodobać. I spodobała, mimo mało satysfakcjonującego rozwiązania zagadki. Rozumiem, że niektórych mogą wkurzać ciągłe podróże taksówką, ale fajnie jest w ich czasie porozmawiać z taksówkarzami - po poruszanych w czasie rozmów tematach widać, że autor poświęcił sporo czasu na zapoznanie się z realiami epoki.

A delightful whodunnit detective game, though in truth it has more in common with a visual novel. The writing is fantastic, and I really liked the style of minimalistic visuals. By the end you do have quite a lot of threads to pull to find the few pieces of information you need to solve the case, but not so many that it's overwhelming or unrealistic to solve. An enjoyable game overall.

Welcome to the noir world of people without eyes... Just kidding, the art style is top notch.

This is a fun little detective game slash visual novel. Get ready for a lot of reading, as the whole game is about talking to people and finding clues and contradictions. But it's well written and carefully designed, with a balanced difficulty that won't force you to read walkthroughs. Perfect.
