Fena değil.
Solid metroidvania souls style game.
Pros:
-Simple but enjoyable combat (simple in terms of movement, not meaning its easy)
-Pretty cool black and white art style though it does lend itself to lack of variety in terms of visuals.
-Fun boss fights
-Only a few different weapons to choose from but they are very different in style
-Clever enemies that have difficult patterns.
-Solid challenge
-No handholding
-Nice dark oppressive atmosphere
Cons
-Elevators and ladders. Good god the sheer amount of them and no way to speed up the process. No sliding down ladders etc. REALLY hurts the games pacing and god help you if you get lost because its a good while before fast travel is unlocked. Enjoy those elevators. You will be seeing them a LOT.
-Some more music and visual variety would have been nice.
-Character progression seems quite underbaked. You have a cool skill tree but you need boss items to unlock them and there is so few bosses that you barely make any headway through the skill tree before the credits roll. Very very odd progression.
Overall solid game thats well worth playing for those that enjoy souls games or metroidvanias with a challenge and not much handholding. Very impressive for such a small team. Good job.
I can't get past even the very first boss in the game and there doesn't seem to be any way to upgrade myself this early or bypass it, and it's too late to refund so I thin I might just be ♥♥♥♥♥♥
Myeah I don't think the devs understood why combats work in Souls-like. They can afford to be that punitive because there are tons of defensive options, the most obvious one being the sidestep, or simply keeping your distance. None of those can be used in this game, and in addition to that there's no way to block or parry. So it's all about rolling all the time, which depletes the stamina and prevents from attacking. It's just super-frustrating and nonsensical. Other aspect that Souls do and this one doesn't: telegraphing the enemy's attacks proportionally to their damage. Here, you can literally die in two second if you don't react quickly. And different attacks can have the same starting animation, so there's no way to predict what's coming.
But anyway the game isn't that appealing overall. The atmosphere is pleasant to some extent, with monochromatic pixel art that makes it all very grim, but the level design is flat and repetitive, and the sound design doesn't fit the retro visuals. Also, all characters are the same flat grey color including our own, so when you're close to an enemy you don't even see what's going on.
There's not much to like about this game, which is a shame considering all the work put into it. The formula just doesn't work for me. Even defeating a boss doesn't feel satisfying. So I don't recommend.
Very good metroidvania and soulslike, did not find it so hard but sometimes had a hard time finding where togo. Combat is satisfying, music and art are good, controls are neat. Play this game if you enjoy challenge and finding stuff out without too much hand holding.
awesome metroidvania, its just a shame that same people wont bother with the true ending. but its a smooth and sometimes hard game.
My complaint its that i would like to see, in some places, a bigger contrast between the background and some other objects in the plain where the player is, and the player.
I think its really worth the money, and take it from me , that i dont like to spend money on games.
My score is
90 out 100
Every so often I think about this game. Enough time has passed that I could probably play through it again and have it be close to a first time playthrough. Not quite, as I still remember many of the secrets and a few of the bosses. Are some of those secrets unfair? Only one. And that's if you want to fight the true final boss.
It's the presentation that gets me. It's the style and tone. The combat is slow and methodical, yes. Some weapons are much stronger than others. But it was the dark fantasy world and the characters and places in it that drew me in.
Even with 'dark fantasy world' being a dime a dozen setting these days, I'd still recommend this game to folks. It's hard, sometimes in not fun ways. It holds its secrets tight to its chest. There are weapons that are too good to not use. But it has heart. It has passion behind it. In the age of genAI games flooding the market that is something that needs to be cherished and appreciated.
May have to take this with a grain of salt because I mostly played a long time ago. I don't remember why I quit that time. Some of it could be explained by two frustrations upon restarting the game now many years later:
- The game is capped at 30 fps (if you have GSync/FreeSync enabled you must disable it for this game or it will run at ~13 fps)
- Climbing ladders and taking elevators is painfully slow
Other than that, the game is mostly okay from what I remember. Not that interesting perhaps. Considering the many quality games that exist in this genre, it is arguably unworthy of your time. Still, it could be a decent pickup on sale if you want another 2D souls-like metroidvania
Game is ok, but is 6/10 at most for me.
In game lags and fps drops. Unresponsive keyboard.
Attacks constantly missing enemies by pass through their models.
Gameplay is not hard, but mostly annoying as ♥♥♥♥ where you can only hit and run (godless shrine mobs for example).
The game was rather "tired" by force than played with pleasure.
Excelente jogo!!!
I strongly recommend this game. It's great. My complaints should not have any bearing on the enjoyment of the average player, and certainly not on one who Googles things beforehand. If you're thinking about buying this game, buy it. But we have beef.
Why? Why drop NG+ on players out of nowhere? Why does NG+ remove all my weapons and items? You think I care about keeping my level? Oh yeah, I'm pumped to play through the game again with harder enemies, but pretty please Mr. Developer sir, let me keep my incremental stat increases! +.06 stamina per level really gets my blood pumping. Whyever would I want to play through the secret-filled metroidvania again with all my abilities to open the secrets I missed the first time around as soon as I come across them? What a preoposterous idea! This is ignoring, of course, that I had no intention of entering NG+ to begin with.
This game is really fun. Bows trivialize most bosses but whatever. Diving deeper into the game to collect every stray item and reach true ending seemed a foregone conclusion in my mind. And now it doesn't, because NG+ reset me to the beginning of the game with nothing but my level and souls to show for it. I like this game, the combat is fun, in moderation. But the enemies are not interesting enough, encounters aren't varied enough, moving through levels isn't fun enough to justify playing the entire game again. Which is a shame. But I own Silksong. I own Blasphemous. I own Grime and Prince of Persia and hundreds of games outside the genre besides. Unworthy is not a monolith whose heights can never be replicated. I have better things to do, better games to play, than replaying the exact same 7 hours I just put in to earn the privelige of putting in even more hours to reach full completion.
And so it is that I leave a 'Do Not Recommend' on a game I think you should play, a game I otherwise loved. One decision has completely soured my outlook on booting this game up ever again.
My rating is really thumbs in the middle. I started this game twice and put it down both times. I really like soulslike games and I've played most of them multiple times. This one was a bit too much of a challenge for me and I got to a point shortly after unlocking the bow where I couldn't escape from the bow area.
I've decided it's not the game for me, but is worth checking out for those who like a challenge.
An excellent soulsvania. The monochromatic minimalist aesthetic is a sight to behold and the world itself is very well designed with the protagonist's inability to jump being taken into account. At no point do you really feel held back by the lack of jumping. Indeed, the game would be made worse by adding such an ability. The boss fights are all great, presenting a worthy challenge. Plenty of secrets to be found and a surprising amount of exploration in what is otherwise a fairly small game. Took me about 20 hours to 100%. Worth the price.
If you liked the following games you will like Unworthy. Likewise, if you liked Unworthy you may like the following:
1. Blasphemous 1 (This game and its sequel are in my top 5)
2. Blasphemous 2
3. The Last Faith
4. Metroid Dread
5. Bloodstained: Circle of the Night
6. Grime
7. Every other soulvania you've ever heard of.
TLDR : It’s awesome. Damn sad there’s not more.
Seen it a few years ago and I wasn’t able to play it. Got it a few weeks ago and finally played it.
It’s marvelous.
I mean, the ambience, the graphic style… It’s simple but damn effective. I wish more games to be like this : simple shades, great world design. Strong graphic identity. I love that.
About the gameplay, it’s a nice metroidvania with that pinch of souls like I crave for. Don’t be mad : the difficulty is just how it should be. I really think this is a good way to get to souls like games without needing to farm or grind to get better. Again, the graphic style is really helpful to read patterns.
Thank you a LOT delivering this way too nice game to this world.
This game has all the elements of classic adventure games, and souls-collecting to boot.
Worth playing.
Slow. Simple. Repetitive. Boring. The aptly named title is Unworthy of the money I spent on it.
Good take on the 2d souls-like, I think.
If you loved Blasphemous you'll love Unworthy, it came out before Blasphemous and unfortunately seemed to be overshadowed by it but i'd say that it's definitely just as good. The combat feels just as methodical and the Biblical type of symbolism is fascinating, although not as overt as Blasphemous's brand of Spanish Catholicism it still serves the story and world building well as far as metroidvanias go i'd give it an 8/10
Nah man. Too clunky. Stamina gets used up far too quickly, and you can't block. You have a timed shield that absorbs one hit that comes back very slowly. (Maybe 20 seconds to recharge) You get these encounters with two fast-moving fast-attacking enemies where you have to dodge and then can MAYBE get one hit in in retaliation, but probably not. AND they've got ranged attacks! And they have a lot of health! So you'll probably run out of stamina while fighting them and get killed. :) Nah man. Not fun, too hard.
The title of the game didnt reflect the sentiment i have for this game i feel robbed
eeweweewewe
ME ENCANTA
pretty good
A GREAT METROIDVANIA/SOUL GAME... THE GAME DOESNT DISSAPOINT ME.
I was very skeptical with the game cause of the comments, but I give it a try. The game is very fun with great mechanic.
My suggestion for improvement probably ONLY the button for use ITEM can be added. Cause without quick button, the items can only use before combat..
BRAVO UNWORTHY
Very good but difficult Soulsvania
Is there no way to enable 60fps in the game? I have Windows 11 and a 4080 video card
The presentation is very old school, and it plays as such. The sluggishness of the character reminded me of Dark Souls 1. The combat was challenging, though you will find numerous regular battles fought in disadvantageous situations, the encounter design will make you struggle (intentionally).
There is a limited selection of weapons but they are all useful and though I have preferences, I used all of them at some point and some bosses clearly felt better with some weapons. It was nice how your progression abilities were mostly tied to weapons in a seamless way. There was an abundance of secrets to find, that's always a positive.
The bosses were overall well balanced, and I've been a bit too addicted to using the rune that leaves you at 1 max health. Thanks a ton for having this kind of tool not too difficult to find.
For minor annoyances, keybinding was weirdly limited; some keys could not be used. It would have been nice to have shop icons on the map, although the merchants aren't that important I guess. And while in NG+ you still couldn't skip cutscenes, thankfully there aren't that many, but that was still a "going to grab food" moment.
Pretty good game overall.
. Very challenging game, but so rewarding to overcome!
. The lore is deep, the enemies are intense, and the bosses are crafted from deepest darkness. I am bad at games, especially this one, but something about this experience drove me to improve like nothing else had before, where defeating each boss was a feeling I can not replace.
. The art may be black, white, and blood; but it absorbs you. Every moment you soak in the beauty and horror of the world, the music reminding you of the intensity at every turn, but spurring you on to fight and claw your way through. And when you rise at the other side, you know what a warrior you have become.
.
In regards to NG+, I share a similar feeling of frustration as other reviewers. I don't mind repeating everything once at least, as it lets me truly reflect on how much I had grown.
. The problem is you do need a pretty specific play through to unlock NG+ that is not very intuitive or well explained, meaning three runs for most players. First amazing experience, a self reflecting experience as you route for the unlock, and then it is somewhat tedious running again just to face the true final boss at the end of the road (still an awesome challenge to overcome).
. Regardless I still believe this is an excellent game even for its first run
I did enjoy the game and have crystal clear memories from some of the boss fights. Although; I have to say, I do not consider myself an experienced souls-like player, yet the game was not as difficult as it is portrayed to be by some of the reviewers here. It will take some practice, if you have not played any similar games before, but it should not frustrate you or make you spend a lot of time to improve your skills, if you attend to it and do not rush yourself.
Great game, for sure a hidden gem. Would recommend to anyone who is a souls like and metroidvania enjoyer.
Unworthy presents unique mechanics that set it apart from just a generic Dark Souls rip off. With some really interesting boss design, but mainly the movement gimick, since the game has no jump, its very cool and something special in my opinion
a bow that teleports you where you shoot it
.
That being said, there are a few issues with the game, mainly concerning the true ending and a few balancing issues. If you are a very completionist guide, I would recommend to look up a guide to set up the true ending, just so you dont have to do three playthoughs.
7 YEARS LATER and Unworthy has taken in a spot in my tops games.
YES this game is easily close to Dark Souls, but IT IS SO MUCH MORE. If you're stuck on whether to buy the game or not because it seems like a 2D souls rip off, trust me don't let that stop you.
Originally I found the game to be too difficult for me. However, I decided to endure through the pain and, oh my god, I have never felt so satisfied to have beaten a game. THE GAME IS CHALLENGING but it still leaves room for almost any player to improve.
The boss fights in particular are more about learning their attacks and when to dodge. While some weapons are better for bosses, you can kill them with anything once you've learned the timing. I was only able to defeat two bosses in one attempt, the rest took multiple.
The art style is PHENOMENAL! I fell in love with the world almost immediately. The designs of everything and the soundtrack makes it so easy to just be sucked right in. I found this game pretty difficult to put down.
SPOILERS:
As been said multiple times, the most annoying thing about the game is the NG+. While your levels and atonements transfer over, being forced to regain your weapons and relics is for sure a put off. ESPECIALLY since the game requires two playthroughs in order to do the true/secret ending. Now, if you're like me and messed up in your first playthrough (which you can do without even realizing it), having to do play through the entire game three times is not fun.
However, if you have no attentions to do the true ending then this won't effect you. If you do plan to go for it, though, I recommend looking up a guide to save yourself a ton of time.
For fans of the genre only. I want to be kind to it since it's a labor of love and there's amazing quality and challenging fun to be had. Still, there are several encounters and situations that frustrate me to no end for how deeply spiteful and unnecessarily punishing they are, and there's some decisions that aren't "hard", "challenging", or "uncompromising", just tedious (like how painfully slow the elevators are). Still a good game and I give huge props, but I can't in good faith give it a recommend to everyone

A decent souls-like metroidvania that is ballbustingly hard. I really liked the idea of not being able to jump (even though it is a detriment to mobility
it gets fixed kind of with the spirit bow that makes you teleport to its target on the ground
) and the black and white art style is simply amazing. However, this game really needs some quality of life improvements for the weapon system (like maybe adding a quick select to weapons) and the upgrade system is sooo bad that it becomes useless. If both of those things got fixed I would have given it a higher score but for the time being it gets a 7/10 from me.
True Definition of hidden gem, amazing variety of weapons, huge secret areas, fine detailed pixel animations.
It starts way too hard for a soulslike metrovania but it's worthy (pun intended).
The silhouettes reminded me the 2-bit era and let's too many things for your imagination, which is not a bad thing, and the game is immersive enough.
Over all it's quite fair but there are some cheap deaths, especially with the spikes and the disability to look in any direction and some times when you get hit between dodge animation.
Bosses are hard with two or three stages and some of them demands a specific weapon in order to beat them, but they felt fair enough in the end.
Don't sleep on this one, but go with a discount price (or a full price if you feel supportive enough).
The truth is seldom black and white. Enter a cruel world where color cannot exist.
I love dark souls as much as the next guy but holy crap does this game just say F you every chance it gets, beyond frustrating. Map is a piece of trash tells you nothing about anything so have fun memorizing every area of the map based of how it roughly looks. had potential some good boss fights but other than that cannot recommend.
The game mechanics are slow. Lots of ladders and waiting on lifts. I quit when I realized it would take me a few tries to figure out all the first boss' moves, and that would require waiting on lifts and running across multiple screens each attempt. Assuming this is setting the pace for the rest of the game, I don't want to spend more time travelling back to bosses than fighting them.
Aesthetically looks cool, and the music was neat so far. It overall looks very impressive for a solo dev project.
An incredibly brutal game !
I love it !
I want to write a review, but for now, I moderately recommend this.
Exceeded my expectations -- I thought I'd like it as a simple 2d souls like, but I didn't expect that I'd be so drawn in to binge it and play through it all the way, fully invested to explore all corners.
Sure, it's small and relatively simple, but the artistic style (which of course is a compromise) is utilised to great success -- the environments, while reused often, have plenty of great layers and the game's pixel art looks great.
The sound design feels good, and surprisingly there's some great music for such a small title that would fit in any sort of higher budget title. The music in the boss fight also ramps up as the boss enrages throughout the fight, awesome.
Gameplay-wise, it also goes beyond a simple small flash game (like you may think it looks like). While you can't jump, the game is all about timing/spacing to fight your enemies. Boss fights are varied and intense. Not the most complex action system, but the challenge comes from recognizing enemy patterns and make sure nail all timing windows for attacks/dodges.
The map has plenty to explore, and for a small title, it has enough meat to justify the price, but doesn't outstay its welcome.
A great little game that sits in the upper percentile of games of similar size/scope.
Cestitam!
You will unfortunately need a guide to 100% this game, as the hints in it are very vague on completing the achievements let alone the game. I had a fun time but it got repetitive around NG++ having to grind for sin in order to get all the maxed skill achievements. Looking forward to updates though as I love the art style this games has going for it!
Tbh it's a lot like Blasphemous, but if I had to pick a word to describe it, that word would be slow.
And if I had to pick ten words to describe it, they would be very very very very very very very very very slow.
You don't get the ability to level until after the second boss. Your roll is strong, but your attacks are slow and interruptable. *Everything* is behind ladders and elevators and things that make you wait, and the pace that you move on ladders and elevators and things that make you wait is terrible. As is tradition, this is a metroidvania so the map is terrible, but also the interfaces in general are kind of clunky and backtracking makes all of these problems worse. I get that it's going for atmosphere, and it's still an impressive project as the work of a solodev, but it feels like a lot of its play isn't play. It's waiting to get to the next thing so that gameplay can happen.
The ambient soundtrack is fine, and the writing and art are really nice actually. Unworthy does a good job communicating a lot with very little.
I just wasn't enjoying it, and didn't see any indication that this was going to change.
If you have a lot of patience for soulslike demakes, this may be worth a shot. But if you want something where gameplay is frequently happening, Unworthy might not be a hit.
A kusoge with garbage controls. The shield doesn't actually work. The first enemy in the game is a crossbowman and he shoots every two seconds, you need to be ALWAYS ROLLING or he shoots you to death, lol. What if there are two crossbowmen later? Hahahahaha ♥♥♥♥ you.
A combat-focused game should give a lot of combat maneuvers to master. Jump, parry, dash, a variety of weapons to switch between in and out of combat, what have you. Nothing of the sort here, only the roooooollllllling.
Trash. Screw you Metroidvania Review for recommending it.
Its 2025, and after playing this game after buying it on sale 7 years after its release, I can still say its a decent game.
I will rip the bandaid off for you early: this game is a 2D dark souls. While I wouldn't call it a dark souls rip-off, For all intents and purposes the story and atmosphere is almost identical to it.
This game is brutal, similar to dark souls. I died a ton on the first boss fight, and only beat a single boss without dying a single time, all other took anywhere for 3-20 attempts. The game is fair though, and battles feel more like an art the way you memorize patterns, and find room to attack.
I beat the game in 9 hours. This included me doing a lot of the secret unnecessary paths. The game will not take you too long as long as you always keep an eye out for secrets, remember and experiment with ALL game mechanics you discover.
spoiler but I feel its important to mention
By far the biggest turn off in this game was the new game plus. I beat the final boss, sat on the throne, and expected either a new area, or beating the game to send me back to my last save to try and discover the secret ending. Instead, it immediately, without warning, sent me to new game plus, keeping only my levels and heart upgrades, but none of the weapons I had. Not only do I think the entire concept of a new game plus doesn't make sense in a metroidvania, but the way it was executed was just horrible. Whats the point of making enemies stronger if I keep my upgrades anyways? Why make the player play through the entire game when they already know whats going to happen, forcing them to PAINFULLY and SLOWLY get all their weapons and gear again? It would at least make SOME sense to let us keep our items and gear, as it would let us explore the world all over again, but with access to EVERY possible secret from the get-go. I can't even go back to my previous file to try and get the secret ending anymore.
What I will say is this: the new game plus ruined getting the secrets for me, since i'm not going to waste another 9 hours getting back to where I was. BUT, I judge games on what they do, and not what they don't do. while yes, this game DID ruin the secrets for me, even without the secret ending I would happily buy it again as long as it is on sale. The base game was good enough and engaging enough to warrant a 3$ price tag while on sale.
This is an absolutely fantastic game. I have gotten all the achievements and it was such a joy to have to replay to do so. Amazing map and level design with just enough enemies to keep me on my toes while playing. It also scales up well as your level up. The bosses aswell are amazingly unique with the 'simple' combat. A serious well done to the solo developer.
jogo de dificil
An absolutely solid souls-like metroidvania.
Unique experience.
A punishing metroidvania with darksouls-esque mechanics. Think salt and sanctuary.
The game world manages to be diverse and interesting despite the artistic choice of grey-scale. It just works.
New weapons double as tools to help you solve puzzles and uncover secrets.
Enemies keep things interesting by introducing new challenges with every new foe encountered.
Most importantly this game does not overstay it's welcome. At no point did I feel like progress was a slog.
That being said, if you are someone who struggles quickly recognizing patterns and reacting to them then this might not be the game for you.
But if you are an enjoyer of games like Hollow Knight then this game was made for you.
After almost 100 hours I finally got all the achievements. So i now feel qualified to leave a review.
The game is fun, but it can take some time to get used to the combat. One playthrough can take about 4 hours if you know what you're doing. You need to use your weapons to get throuth the teren wich is cool. I don't want to comment on the story becose I wouldn't know a ''good story'' even if it punched me in the face and stole my hampster. (A bit of a spoiler.) To fight the true final boss you have to solve a puzzle beat the game and go to new game+. But in the NW+ don't solve the puzzle again or you'll just fight the normal final buss.
Highly recommend this game to anyone with a masochistic vein. Great boss encounters and some really enjoyable puzzle/ platforming. For anyone curious to see what Dark Souls would look like as a 2D Metriodvania.
SteamDeck(初代256)で問題なくプレイ。

Ugh. It's OK if you're MV person
.But ♥♥♥♥
......There is :(
............no save/load
...............no cloudsaves
This needs fixed
Great game
Way too much Soulslike and way too little metrovania for my taste.
It's bad. The minimal pixel art style works well, but the whole game is combat and the combat doesn't have the special sauce. Too repetitive, too frustrating, not enough moment to moment decisions. Hit, roll, hit, roll. If you try to get creative, you die.
Very cool 2D Souls Game with some fresh ideas. Love figuring out the boss fight that reveals new moves gradually as you chip away at their health. By the time you learn all their moves and defeat the boss, you really feel pretty badass, at least I did.
The pixel black and white aesthetic is cool and level design interesting.
The only criticism I have so far is there is this weird window after an attack where you can't roll for some reason. If you do a sword attack and hit dodge as soon as the sword hits the ground, you can roll. However, if you wait a little bit after an attack and hit roll, your character does nothing. That feels very weird to me.
But overall, I highly recommend this.
I’m typing this review after completing the whole game, which includes getting every Steam achievement and beating the secret final boss. There will be spoilers in the criticism section (HEAVY CRITICSM BTW), but if you’re not a completionist and just want a game to play, not see through to the very end, it’s a good game and I recommend it.
It’s amazing visually, and I especially must compliment the recurring visuals matching the artstyle’s strengths: white falling snow and fire look stunning, and I wish that Qas Rune wasn’t as convoluted to get so I could appreciate the scenery more often.
Despite being a grey game, the areas are very distinct! I’m very impressed by the area design. Level design? Not so much, so many rooms exist simply to connect other rooms on the map. Although the rooms that ARE meant to be real rooms are good, no complaints there.
The majority of the bosses are really fun to fight! My favourite probably has to be Frayed Knight Dominic, it’s a perfectly balanced fight in terms of HP, the pace of the attacks is elegant and the leadup and music are amazing. I also like Gaston, Heir of Ambition, even though when I first fought him, I put down the game for months because of how much of a jack of all trades he is. It’s a skill check boss for sure, which is why I’m also a bit upset about everything else that revolves around him that I will mention later. Amazing fight you look back on fondly but absolutely hate when you’re engaging in. And it’s just plain fun to fight Kayen, Father of Thirst with Jas Rune on :)c
Altus, The First Father name twist? Genuinely stellar moment.
Finally, the Absolver’s Stone is a lifesaver for completionists.
CRITICISMS (and spoilers) SECTION:
Ok, with everything good out of the way, time to rip into this game.
First off, some technical stuff. I really hate how the game provides a variety of items, but only a few of them are actually equippable. That wouldn’t be a problem with stuff like Golem Hearts but making Soulflame Ashes, THE THING THAT ALLOWS YOU TO RESTORE A FLASK OF HEALING, an item you have to open up your inventory to use (aka stand there open to attacks) instead of making it an equippable item is BAFFLING. When would you use it if not in a bossfight?
Moreover, and this one is a personal nitpick, I dislike how grinding Sin also makes you increase in level. I really hate being overlevelled for bosses but I had to grind some Sin for all atonement achievements.
Another QOL complaint I have is Runes not carrying over in NG+. There’s NOTHING fun about doing a collectathon, and frankly, I feel like while compromising with myself on whether or not I want to go for a certain rune, I have discovered that some areas are just worthless on an NG+ playthrough, specifically The Laboratory. Its worth is artificial and hinges solely on housing the Aio Rune. I’m NOT going to that slog of a place even if it means not getting an additional Soulflame Essence from The Caverns (which, by the way, also makes them worthless for someone who’s done the bell quest!!).
Now, you could contend me on this and say that there’s nothing wrong with NG+ making you replay the game as you would normally, and the Runes should stay as they are. I would agree with you, if not for this game’s main and most egregious flaw which is its piss poor implementation of its secret ending.
To lay the scene: you WILL have to replay the game THRICE unless you’re playing with a guide on your first ever playthrough.
To get the secret ending, you have to collect 5 Bell Shards, four of which are accessible to passionate players who love the game and explore everything and read the NPC dialogue. THE FIFTH ONE??? It is locked behind a four-step interaction quest with an NPC that you have to go out of your way to talk to. Why? Because if you go the intended route, instead of jumping through hoops in the Spire Dungeon, you will inevitably fight the aforementioned Gaston, Heir of Ambition, and this will lock you out of that NPC’s quest and lose you the shard, so again, there’s no chance you will get this on your first run if you are uninformed.
Now, here I have to go on a tangent about Gaston and every circumstance surrounding this miserable man. First up, the quest I just talked about? There is no quest. You have to skip him, and the NPC you skip him for clearly alludes to being Gaston’s other half and asks you to inform him if you find him. When you get the Bell Shard from him and go to Gaston’s arena though? There’s no Gaston there. You get nothing. You ring the bell to get out of the arena with your Spirit Bow and get a useless ladder and that’s it.
And don’t even get me started on the bow. I assume that because Gaston is intended to be the boss you skip for the bell quest, his reward is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ out of them on so many levels. Not only do you get a bow with frankly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ damage output, but you also get a way better bow in the next area for free.
Imagine. You’ve just beat the hardest boss you’d come across by that point. You don’t even know that you screwed yourself out of the secret ending. You get a ♥♥♥♥ bow as a reward. You advance to the next area and you get a bow that lets you teleport around (and does damage) simply for breathing air. No challenge, no nothing. It is unfair, and devalues the player’s efforts tremendously, and undermines such a brilliant bossfight.
Ok, tangent aside. Say you’re a normal person and completed your first run without looking everything up and are now armed with a map guide to collect everything you need to fight the secret final boss and 100% the game. Well ♥♥♥♥ you!!!! Because SOMEHOW the developers thought it would be a good idea to have the secret final boss, Emissary of Ur, appear NOT on the run you’ve completed all the pre-requisites, but on the run AFTER. Again, I can’t stress this enough: YOU HAVE TO TRUDGE THROUGH THE GAME THRICE TO COMPLETE IT FULLY!!! WHY???!!!
Anyway. Emissary of Ur. A boss to end it all. Surely, a fight that would put all the previous bosses to shame and showcase the true talent of the developers?
It’s so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
It has a huge body, but only the middle part of it is susceptible to damage. Already insane, but on top of that it’s soooooo tanky. I would be so much more forgiving of all the stunts it pulls if every attempt didn’t take ages.
So, how’s the gameplay bad?
First, every time you hit it, it produces a Curse orb, so you can’t reliably use multi-hit weapons such as Oshikorosu. Second, the opening is abysmal. It spends the first 15% of its health cosplaying a screensaver. Third, the moment it launches the orbiting Curse orbs, the fight becomes unfair, because it’s so easy to get grazed by one of them and then get caught by another attack.
My final complaint about the fight itself is the grab attack. Not only is it possible to dodge solely when it charges at you from the other end of the arena, and not decides to do a grab right as you’re standing close to it, the window to roll out of the grab is pathetically small. What baffles me even more is that the game has another notorious grabber, Frayed Knight Dominic, but it’s implemented great in that fight!
Anyway, I had a pretty cool moment with killing it with the help of a single Frozen Heart I’ve been saving for the “right time”. Took me cumulatively about 1-2 hours. Did I get rewarded for my effort in any meaningful way? ♥♥♥♥ NO LMAO.
Two. Two words of dialogue is all you get. No cutscene or any different outcome. The developers truly don’t appreciate those who dedicate their time to their game, and it shows.
My way of fixing it is: reduce the replay time to two cycles, KEEP the Altus, The First Father fight, half the Emissary’s HP and have it be the second phase of that fight. Simple as. You’re not cute with this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. ♥♥♥♥ you.
Bottomline? Don’t play Unworthy if you care about the game. Play Unworthy if you want to have a good time once and never touch it again.
i died 254 time in this game
decent game, kind of bullspit but its fun
The first game I played on my Steam Deck and what a great experience. As a big fan of Hollow Knight, this scratched a similar itch, with a much more restrained scope and scale. Bosses were challenging, but fair. They each required careful planning and I enjoyed determining their patterns. My main complaint is that there a few areas that had multiple hyper aggressive enemies on a single screen, which was a pain in the butt to proceed past. Otherwise I absolutely loved the game!
A hidden gem.
The monochromatic aesthetic hides an amazing game in the mood of dark souls that brings a lot of fresh ideas to the table. If you like dark, punishing combat and metroidvanias, then this is a must play.
A beautiful, fun metroidvania soulslike. It's a great little game. Very fun combat.
If Blasphemous was made by (almost) one person it would be this game.
Very fun
:\
