I wouldn't recommend it based on what I like to play but it is what is advertised and a solid game.
For that reason I will recommend it ON SALE.
Even then it's overpriced in that you can get a better game like Dragons Age 1 at the same price if not better (on sale) but if you want an RPG to play for consequences definitely have this on your wishlist.

По факту ты ещё в начале игры выбираешь, по какому сценарию ты идёшь, и придерживаешься его, так как внутри сценария выбора по каким-то ключевым моментам тебе не предоставляют. Так к этому у тебя просто ещё на любом прохождении, кроме пути анархии, вырезают 1/4 игры. И хорошо, если бы это было как-то обосновано. Но по мне так это просто для того, чтобы создать иллюзию развилки и заставить тебя пройти игру не 4 раза, а 8. Игра — проходняк, можно поиграть, если уже наскучили другие отличные игры этого жанра.

Tyranny é um rpg onde seu personagem é um juiz/executor das leis do governante supremo Kyros. O jogo faz você escolher uma facção e tentar mantê-la. O sistema de relacionamento com os companheiros e as facções é muito interessante, bem como o sistema de magias que podem ser feitas. O combate é bom, com habilidades de combo com os companheiros. Infelizmente não tem tradução PT-BR, mas o idioma não foi um empecilho para mim.
Tyranny ist für mich eines der interessantesten klassischen Rollenspiele der letzten Jahre, weil es sich traut, etwas anders zu machen.
Statt wieder die übliche Heldengeschichte zu erzählen, wirft es einen in eine Welt, in der das Böse im Grunde schon gewonnen hat und man selbst Teil dieses Machtapparats ist. Allein das gibt dem Spiel sofort eine ganz eigene Spannung.
Was mir besonders gut gefällt, ist, wie konsequent Tyranny seine Welt und seine Entscheidungen aufzieht. Viele Rollenspiele behaupten, dass Entscheidungen wichtig sind, und am Ende ändert sich dann gefühlt doch nur die Farbe der Tapete. Hier hat man deutlich öfter das Gefühl, dass Worte, Loyalitäten und Machtverhältnisse wirklich etwas auslösen. Man entscheidet nicht einfach nur zwischen gut und böse, sondern oft zwischen verschiedenen Formen von Kontrolle, Ordnung, Chaos und Eigeninteresse. Das macht die Dialoge und Fraktionen deutlich spannender, als man es sonst oft bekommt.
Auch das Schreiben der Figuren und der Welt hat mir richtig gut gefallen. Tyranny wirkt düster, aber nicht plump. Die Spielwelt hat Charakter, die Fraktionen fühlen sich eigenständig an, und Begleiter sind nicht nur Staffage, sondern tragen wirklich etwas zum Gesamtbild bei. Man merkt einfach, dass hier mehr drinsteckt als nur der nächste Standard-Fantasy-Konflikt.
Dazu kommt, dass das Spiel angenehm kompakt bleibt. Es versucht nicht, einen mit endlosen Längen zu erschlagen, sondern konzentriert sich stärker auf seine Stärken: Entscheidungen, Weltbau, Atmosphäre und Rollenverständnis. Gerade das fand ich erfrischend, weil nicht jedes Rollenspiel zwanghaft 120 Stunden dauern muss, nur damit man am Ende vergessen hat, warum man überhaupt angefangen hat.
Wer klassische isometrische Rollenspiele mag und Lust auf ein ungewöhnlicheres Setting mit spürbar mehr moralischer Grauzone hat, sollte Tyranny definitiv spielen. Für mich ein unterschätztes RPG, das deutlich mehr Aufmerksamkeit verdient hat.

决策系统满分，可以说自始至终小至路边npc台词、大至地图格局情节都能感受到此前做出的选择链正在发挥作用！并且这点会实时反馈在声望上，相当惊艳：青睐声望和恐惧声望上涨，皆可获取不同的作战技能/被动特性——隐晦地暗示了神统/凯洛斯 [spoiler]伟力生长于己身信仰（信念）与在世名望[/spoiler]的秘密。从这个角度而言，铺垫、论述了缚命官每一章日益强大[spoiler]乃至颁布自己的敇令[/spoiler]的某种程度上的必然——并且，不是the chosen one 的那类型。这一点就很喜欢。

总之非常值得一玩TwT。收尾仓促也瑕不掩瑜，是熟悉的文字功底啊啊。终幕的法庭演出在我这儿可以排前三了。屠农作为司法、正义、秩序的神统刻画得深得人心啊，[spoiler]判处缚命官死刑的念白、开战所掉落的战利品面具；有些动摇但还是判处死刑的一句惋惜台词；效忠、辅佐缚命官的[/spoiler]陈情明志>这这这这这当场把玩家震住了，（措辞也很好味），肃然起敬。本来因为读档好几次看别的选项结果挨批判挨得有点心灰意冷（这位缚命官明明做的是好人好事，难不成非要巧舌如簧才能自证清白？）转瞬间两边的敌意都荡然无存。这就挂上成就展柜。文明致意。

One of the best Obsidian games ever made - despite the abrupt ending, the writing and the premise (being a messenger of a tyrant dictactor) is one of the most unique ones in gaming. Very recommended for any CRPG fan.

I have never played a game that handles treachery and villainy as well as this one. Triple double back stabbing everyone at every opportunity is a delight.
Many reviews have touched on the issue of the game being incomplete, adding mh voice to that chorus. We’ll never see its like again 😢.
The plot is very interesting, but the problem is the game is difficult, even on normal difficulty. I can say I could try hard difficulty, but have no idea how to get through path of the damned. Some fights are riduculously hard like bosses in energy fields.
But I have no regrets, I paid for DLCs full price and I like the game.
Have no ideal why so good game failed in the end.
Not quite what I expected, short (22hours to complete) and quite linear. I was looking forward to reigning supreme after my admittedly 'good' play-through but then the game just ends. You could play through again making different choices, 'evil' ones but what's the point!? Missed opportunity. 6.5/10

This game is filled by great and fun ideas: spell crafting, terraforming magic cast like law, the idea of magic (spells, items and people) being public belief, and so much freedom in your choices while still maintaining a unique focus in being part of an evil empire, you can even switch teams and betray alliances.
I yearn to visit this world again, to get answers to so many questions...
It is rough around the edges, a bit janky and unbalanced, but ultimately it still was one of the best CRPGs that I have ever played, still filling my mind with so many thoughts after beating it days ago.
Please give Tyranny a chance.

Tyranny is a fun, unique variation of PC DnD-style games that I've always enjoyed. And I continue to hold out hope that they will come out with a sequel someday that will bring proper closure to what is building up to be a pretty epic story.

1. Game promises a lot, but delivers not even half of it. And thus it's overpriced.
2. Tons of obviously purposedly inserted %CURRENT_YEAR_POLITICS% which are IN YOUR FACE BIGOT! For example over 1/2 of all warriors in this game are women. Yeah sure Karen, 60% of brutal warrior killers in Bronze Age were women. Very immersive storytelling.
3. Character creation and pre-story is more fun than an actual game because basically game does not allow you to be a Judge Dredd but you are an everybody's fetch boy. You want to punish traitors and decide who will live and die? Nope, go find some caravan doormat boy! Then find another caravan for a nobody. Then go find some platoon of loosers, because in the huge army nobody can or even wants to do trash work that should be doing an godly edict bearer who already had purged whole kingdoms from people in the pre-game.
At the end of the day the writing is so bad that it does not suspend the disbelief. Pathetic.

Pretty unique setting and story. Some details are a bit inconsistent but that's fine.
I liked building spells. Reminded me of Two Worlds (I+II).
Combat system was ok, but certainly had its flaws. AFAIK you could not tell your group to stay in place and in formation which was really annoying. As soon as they see an enemy, they run to them and get surrounded by enemies and don't protect the more fragile, but nonetheless important party members. Also the healer basically always healed too late. And even if you stop time every 0.5s, you might still fail in issuing orders as they sometimes decide to ignore it.
It's also a slow game. Playthrough in ~40h doesn't sound long, but you will run around for quite a bit and als read dialogs and other texts. But if you are patient, it can help building an interesting world and good atmosphere.
Inventory management was ok, you can only compare equipment with current party members. That was annoying.
The Majora's Mask of Obsidian. Built in a short time on an already existing engine (the Pillars of Eternity engine), and including a lot of interesting and clever ideas and themes. Also, like Majora's Mask, looked back on by its developer and publisher as something of an embarassment, something to be forgotten.
Tons of really cool ideas here; spell crafting, edicts, the idea of magic being a construct of public belief, and an obscene amount of freedom and consequence in your choices, so much you can even switch teams. I would absolutely love to visit this world again... so many questions unanswered.

Absolute Kaufempfehlung, vor allem, wenn man so wie ich schon Baldur's Gate II liebte.
Niestety nie mogę tej gry polecić z czystym sumieniem. Wiem, że ogólnie ma dobre recenzje, ale po w końcu trzykrotnej próbie podejścia do gry, ponownie się odbiłem.
Żeby nie było - uwielbiam crpgi, ale musi być w nich mix dobrej mechaniki rozwoju, mechaniki walki, dialogów i poczucia progresu.
Sam świat oraz klimat - pierwsza klasa. To jedyna gra jaką znam, która proponuje nam granie moralnie złą postacią (przynajmniej na początku), bo stojącą po stronie Hegemona - mrocznego przywódcy który opanował już prawie cały świat.
To była moja trzecia próba podejścia do gry - grałem niemalże przez pięć godzin. W tym czasie, przebijałem się przez ogromne ilości dialogów (fakt, że niektóre ciekawe i mające wpływ na historię). Prawie pięć godzin czytania, praktycznie zero eksploracji terenu - ot, trzy małe mapki. W tym czasie dostałem dwie prostackie fabularne walki.
Nie dałem rady. Żeby nie było - uwielbiam czytać, ale jak mam grę, to chciałem też pograć; od samego czytania mam książki. Zerknąłem z ciekawości na fora dotyczące gry - prawie ukończyłem pierwszy rozdział, dopiero w drugim jest podobno lepiej, a sam trzeci to kompletny króciak z zakończeniem.
Gra mnie wymuliła i wynudziła niesamowicie. Niestety, Tyrrany będzie na mojej czarnej liście nie ukończonych rpgów. Być może to gra zwyczajnie nie dla mnie, może jednak przedwcześnie się zraziłem, ale przepraszam bardzo - pięć godzin przebijania się przez dialogi, to dla mnie za dużo.
Gra często jest na bardzo mocnym promocjach, więc można sprawdzić, ale ja - nie polecam.

Most RPGs start with you as a nobody who eventually saves the world from some ancient evil. Tyranny flips that on its head because the ancient evil already won before you even clicked "New Game." You play as a Fatebinder, which is basically a judge and executioner working for a magical dictator named Kyros. It is a brilliant setup that makes every conversation feel like walking through a legal minefield.
[h2]Law and Order in the Bronze Age[/h2]
The setting itself is a huge breath of fresh air because it moves away from the tired medieval tropes. Everything feels like the early Bronze Age, with iron being a rare and terrifyingly powerful resource. You aren't just choosing between being a saint or a monster. Instead, you are balancing the egos of two rival armies that both serve your boss but absolutely hate each other.
The magic system is easily one of the best parts of the mechanical side. You get to craft your own spells by finding sigils in the world, which allows for some crazy customization that I wish more modern RPGs would steal. The combat is tactical and can get quite difficult on the higher settings, so you really have to think about how your party members' abilities combo together.
[h2]The horror of being a bureaucrat[/h2]
What makes the writing stand out is how it handles morality. You aren't kicking puppies for the sake of it. You are enforcing the law of a tyrant because that is the only thing keeping the world from falling into total chaos. Characters like Tunon the Adjudicator are genuinely intimidating because they don't care about your feelings, they only care about the letter of the law. You spend a lot of your time interpreting Kyros’s Edicts, which are massive magical curses that can wipe out entire regions if you don't resolve a conflict in time. It adds a layer of pressure that most CRPGs lack.
[h2]The cliffhanger that still hurts[/h2]
The biggest tragedy of Tyranny is how it ends. You spend the entire game building up your power and making choices that feel like they are going to change the world forever. The stakes keep rising and the third act feels like it is preparing you for a massive war that will redefine the continent. Then the credits roll.
It feels like the developers finished the first half of a masterpiece and then ran out of budget or time. Since there is basically zero chance of a sequel happening now, you are left with a story that feels like a prologue to a game that doesn't exist. It is a fantastic ride while it lasts, but the sudden stop is going to leave you feeling a bit hollow.

Tyranny is a mandatory play for anyone who loves deep writing and actual consequences for their actions. Just go into it knowing that the narrative arc is incomplete. It is a short but incredibly dense experience that rewards multiple playthroughs just to see how the world changes when you side with different factions.

Unfortunately, Tyranny just wasn't a game I could get into. The draw of the games choice divergence and roleplaying opportunites is completely underminded by the games awful pacing and mid writing. Really tried to like this game, but just not worth it.
Love the Game. Love the Gameplay. Love the Story. Love the Characters. Love the Items. Love the Magic System. I would recommend 100%.
I really love this game. Back when Obsidian had soul. The game has so much character, multiple paths you can choose, obvious and more subtle consequences for the decisions you make. You can choose to betray everyone or you can submit to one of the Archons. The side characters (companions) are also interesting and the banter/lore throughout, as well as their quests, are also a lot of fun. They have depth and over my two playthroughs, I became attached to a few.
There are some downsides to this game. The puzzles are fine, but you can be running around for 20 minutes because you didn't see a tiny highlighted object. Also, there are some quests that broke for me in the second playthrough. I also struggle with how small the font is, and wish that I could increase the font. But these complaints are more QOL and less gameplay issues. The gameplay itself is smooth if you have experience with point and click type games with light puzzle/problem solving elements.
I would certainly recommend this game and can give it a solid 7.5/10.

Despues de pasarme el juego Dos veces, llege a la conclusion de que kyros es trans o un femboy, aparte de eso, es un JUEGAZO, 100% recomendado, buenas tomas de decisiones y historia ademas de que el sistema de magia esta muy bien hecho, simplemente una historia brutal, que lastimosamente nunca continuara, puesto que el final es uno abierto, y el juego ya tiene casi 10 AÑOS, ignorando eso, prueben el juego si son amantes del genero les va a encantar

Tyranny is a pretty unique RPG. You play as an officer of the evil overlord that has taken over most of the world. You can be a strict enforcer of the overlord's laws, show some leniency to the rebel factions, or a mix.
Compared to other CRPGs I've played, this one is pretty short but I liked the characters and story more than Pillars of Eternity. There are a few different factions you can align with, so there is definitely some replay value.
Sometimes the unit pathing during combat can be a bit frustrating. I don't know why but sometimes my party members would just randomly wander away from enemies during combat.
I don't think I'd replay this game, but I like that this game actually lets you be completely evil -- I feel like that is pretty rare in most RPGs.

This is a great RPG; there were multiple points when playing where the writing made me fully stop and stare for a minute. The choices you make, who you ally with and where you go are really impactful.
There's also a lot of various builds.
The magic system feels great; there's a lot of customization and at high levels playing a wizard is a lot of fun.
There are a couple of weak points; the 1st is the abrupt end - this game has a great act 2 and probably the shortest act 3 of any RPG; I played allied with the disfavored and it seemed like act 3 was two boss fights.
The other major weak point is that there's really not a lot that explains spire upgrades and activities - specifically using the library to research and the forge to upgrade weapons. I was able to ignore this for all but the last boss fight (it felt like a difficulty spike without the proper upgrades).
I don't have any of the DLC - and that adds some things which should be standard (companion quests, travel encounters). Comapred to Pillars of eternity the game lacks a lot of content, but i'm definitly going to pick up the DLC and replay when a sale comes up.
Boring.
Literally just a long-ass book with a ♥♥♥♥ tone of lore from the first seconds and rare episodes of combat with a terrible mechanics.
I am generally just not into the real-time-with-pause combat mechanics as it feels like it makes 0 sense, awkward and 'tf am I even supposed to do while these guys are fighting?'. Tried Diablo 4 with what felt like a similar combat mechanics (never ending braindead mouse clicking), it was super frustrating and dumb, even a monkey with brain damage would be able to keep up with it. Unlike Diablo 4, this game requires someone smarter than a monkey because you really have to love to read a lot and to be able to bury yourself into the hoards of lore to drag through it. Hell, I am sure I would be able to read all the dialogues and even enjoy the game if I had ever got into it - I just never did. None of the charachters won me over enough to keep going - and there is no other point in continuing this game.
What I liked about this game (and why I am a bit upset that I haven't managed to enjoy it it despaite a few days of trying) :
-Beautiful design and illustrations
-Good voice acting in dialogues with the main charachters. Helps to digest the dry lore and stay focused at times

La musique est particulièrement bien soignée pour se mettre dans l'ambiance, et on se laisse facilement entrainer dans ce monde pendant plus longtemps qu'on ne le pensait.
Son plus gros point faible est sa durée de vie limitée (une quarantaine d'heure pour une campagne) principalement à cause du fait qu'il n'y a pratiquement pas de quêtes secondaires.

The fighting is so lame ass and boring that even the beauty of the story and plot couldn't overcome it or keep me engaged.

I tried very hard with this game. There are things that I did love about it.
The writing is so deep, the back story captivating. One of the very few games where you play as the bad guys but without being over the top. Trying to be nice to others in this game is a mistake, you really need to take no prisoners.
But, it's just too much for a neophyte to iosmetric RPGs. All the items are trash, the inventory management requires a degree in archivism. The combat is really tough and requires you to pause every one second to micro manage everything. It's just extremely slow and protracted. You have to go through a LOT of dialogue and every single of your choice could mean losing reputation or triggering an attack. If you level the wrong skills early because you're not clued up you will brick your character, which I'm sure I did.
In the end it took me so long just to clear the first act (having to reduce difficulty for final fight because it was too hard. And starting Act 2 you immediately get thrown into fights that are even harder. I don't think I have the strength to carry on. I am but a coward.
If you really want to get in a full in-depth RPG with a crazy level of detail, this is probably a great game, but it's not for me.

This is a really hard decision to make but ultimately I have chosen to leave a negative review out of disappointment rather than anything the game itself directly does, but rather what it does NOT do.
(Spoilers ahead.)
This game and all it is, if it could be summed up briefly would be "A Tease" or a sense of "Teasing".
It scratches all the perfect itches of wanting to "start from nothing" or "lower station", and build your character into a Tyrant or Humble Ruler of an empire but never really truly grants that opportunity.
You never get to really explore the possibility that it teases you the whole game and I can not recommend it because of that.
It would have been and easy 10/10 recommend if it let you actually command and rule and follow through with the powers you get, but it never truly does.
You get dropped off just before you get the ball rolling and it completely crushes all the value of the build up unto that point.
All the choices and consequences of the players actions are left effectively on a "cliff hanger" rather than actually being properly explored and traversed.
(It is like writing the prologue to a story that has yet been written or told, you get to play in the early parts, but never ride the wave to the end of it, only getting to about half way at best, before stopping.)
So much potential into being able to have such a lived through and flushed out back story and early main story you make for your character, and yet you can never truly experience that finality.
It is truly a let down and disappointment that we as the player get to lose out on that experience.
As the ending states it is "the heralding the end of one long campaign and the beginning of another."
This last line hurts far more than anything else for me.
Perhaps if we were to ever have a Tyranny 2 this could be fixed and I would change my review due to the nature of needing to continue the story progression in the next game, but because we only have the 1 Tyranny, I have to leave a negative as it only leave a sour taste of a high scope project that leave the player wanting more, but never granting that reward and experience.
This is why if I could summarize the game in a single word it would be "tease".
You learn about all these characters back story, lore, "language", ancient writings, glyps, and symbols, so much rich writing and history only to never be given answers to any of it.
The majority of it is "left to player interpretation".
I can appreciate wanting players to think and imagine for themselves but when you put this much work into the "hype" of reaching that peak only to say "use your imagination"" it leaves me dissatisfied and upset for the lack of a better description.
In all fairness the core game itself and all that it offers is very much a easy 8/10 experience and a strong recommend for any CRPG fan, but due to the nature of how progression is handled and the lack of a satisfying conclusion I have to leave it negative.
The build up is honestly unmatched in this genre space.
It is by no means perfect, but from what I believe it set out to do, it does that concept quite well.
It is just a shame that we will likely never see it laid out in full.
Very slow story progression and combat is janky, overall boring gameplay for me. Doesn't respect your time.
The best of this generation of CRPGs. A little smaller in scope - fewer party members, shorter play time - but really fantastic in tone and writing and satisfaction. There's a whole spell-crafting system which is crazy ambitious for a game like this.

I thought I might be half way when the game finished; there was such a compelling story and world I could have kept going.
On standard difficulty I had no difficulty really, but really enjoyed the story. Maybe start on hard and dial it back if you have to.

No es usual, pero empecé este juego sin ninguna guía... cosa que no suelo hacer. Aún así, pude disfrutar mucho de este juego y de las decisiones que fui tomando. Al final no termine determinando que tipo de moralidad se premia en el juego... si bien se trata e un juego en el que el "mal" ha triunfado, no observé si era mejor tratar mal a todo el mundo tomando una postura independiente y beligerante, ser bueno y disruptivo, o bueno... yo opté por ser bastante legal aliándome firmemente a un bando pero con un poquito de traición sobre el final. Lo disfruté.
Este juego requiere muuuucha lectura y paciencia, y de tantas decisiones... uno se queda con la idea de hacer otra partida a ver que pasa... como quedaría todo... porque te quedan muchos lugares y personajes sin conocer.

Just finished 100% achievements. The relationship among your group members and the factions is a quite interesting dynamic. I'd rate the game higher, but the loading screens really suck, worse thing about the game. Combat is good once you equip your group and pick talents appropriately. I thought I would hate the AI combat, but it grew on me and I actually like it. But you need to actually read what it does instead of leaving it as Default AI. All in all, I'll give it a 8/10. Complex and challenging.
Это книга с элементами игры. И это самый главный минус, по крайней мере для меня. Количество диалогов и вариантов ответов внушительное даже с не имеющим никакой важности npc. В небольших локациях чтобы прочитать весь текст уходят десятки минут - в какой-то момент поймал себя на мысли, что хочется скипать большую часть диалогов. Но, тогда не имеет смысла играть, ведь игра построена на диалогах...
Боев прям немного. Вы будете час читать текст и после проводить несколько боев. Сами бои достаточно прикольные по своей механике
И, все-таки, игру рекомендую за сюжет, бои, атмосферу. Чтобы играть в это надо настроиться на чтение и никуда не торопиться

I'm positive there's depth here... I just don't have the patience for it. The story is boring enough during the first two hours that the horrid combat system didn't entice me to stay and find out. It's wall of text after wall of text for dialogue, the story is one of political intrigue, and i just don't care. If you like SLOW games this is for you. if you want something with a bit more oomph and gravity stay far away.
I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is. Really enjoyable.

GREAT magic system alongside classic Obsidian moral conundrums. Feels like a trial run for a once-in-a-lifetime game that will probably never be made.
Obsidian and Paradox, while currently names that are anathema to quality storytelling and game design, used to produce genuinely good games with solid world building.
This cRPG is a sterling example of those times. Right from the get-go you assume the role of a character with an actual history that you meticulously construct, and it truly influences how you may interact with the world. You also make a series of choices that not only determine the state of a collection of nations that you have to finish conquering, but also your starting relationship with an assortment of warriors, scholars, savages and demigods that WILL be integral as to how the the campaign progresses and ends.
The soundtrack is absolutely enthralling. It's classic Copper/Bronze Age Sword and Sorcery fare, reminiscent of the likes of Conan the Barbarian or Kull the Conqueror.
Unlockable items, equipment, and stat points that you permanently acquire just by beating the game can be carried over into the next playthrough, heavily improving replayability and incentivizing exploration.
Recommended that you get on sale, both because the discount on this game is extremely generous, and so that the present Obsidian and Paradox receive only pennies rather than dollars.

A very interesting CRPG with unique premise, very memorable companions, played it when it first released, but only seen one route, this time trying to beat it with all routes, worth it for XRPG fans, one complaint though, no turn base mode....

Play this game. Play this game! The first game (hopefully so far) that is real time with pause that I've enjoyed playing. The story was blatantly set up for a sequel. We need this sequel. My only complaint for the game is that once you get to end game and just suddenly ends way too quickly. My play time is inaccurate because of offline playing, Probably around 40 hours of total playtime... I feel like just as I was really getting into the story and role it just ended. Obsidian... Please give us the sequel that you so clearly had in mind.
I think it's just average.

One of the most underrated cRPG's of all time

Do you like your choices mattering? Then you have to play this game. It's not perfect, but it works. It's Obsidian. Even their B or C work is better than many studios' A material.

Clunky and boring. Yet another unstoppable empire and similar cringe stuff... You need to click strictly at the bottom of enemies to target them... why? Tried starting playing it twice, was bored immediately by horrible gameplay and story.
I know I’m a noob at this game, but I honestly hated every single combat encounter. Granted, this is the first CRPG I’ve played in a long time, but I still don’t think the game should be this hard if you don’t go out of your way to do tons of side quests. And I was playing on Normal. Can’t imagine what the higher difficulties are like.
A good game, setting/story was good. Sadly it ended right when things started to get interesting.
First and foremost: This is like reading a 3,000 pages novel. This is factual information. I mean, real reading a lot between story and dialogues and there is much more reading than actually playing in this game. So if you don't like reading something the size of all Harry Potter's books combined or going twice through all 3 Lord Of The Rings books, then I don't recommend this game. On the other hand, the story and the world are really compelling and professionally written. It's a truly captivating environment, characters, and circumstances going on between the regions and factions. The game puts the player in between everything and emphasizes the importance of decision making and you feel the world and relations really change because of your decisions. Then you have a pretty straightforward campaign that you shape what is going to happen next based on your options.
Combat though, happens a bit differently from typical RPGs. The people who complain about the combat in this game, or that characters don't do anything, or that they don't understand what is happening because it is all so quick, or anything similar to that, it's probably because they didn't grasp the combat system in this game. It is not supposed to be something you just leave it going on real time and you click click your characters and their abilities like a WOW or something. It's mandatory to use the pause (space bar) since the first milliseconds of engaging in combat. From there you check all your characters one by one, their positions, the action they are taking at the moment (according to what you defined in their AI settings), then you change what you find appropriate to your strategy, choose who does what, then you release pause, see what happens in the next second, pause again, check what unfolded so far, rinse and repeat. That's how combat is built to work here.
Recommend it 8.5 out of 10 if you like reading very long fantasy novels and playing RPGs, especially on sale.

Единственный минус этой игры - она заканчивается, и довольно быстро для рпг. Видимо расчет был на реиграбельность.
Параллельно с этой игрой играл в Divinity: Original Sin 2 и удивительно, насколько разный бюджет у этих игр, и насколько сильно отличаются рпг элементы в этих играх.
В Tyranny почти каждый диалог, даже с врагом, содержит в себе 3+ вариантов ответа - положительный/нейтральный/отрицательный. Почти всегда есть проверка на навык, будь то атлетика, чтобы запугать врагов и уменьшить себе количество противников, обратив одного или нескольких врагов в бегство, либо избежать драки с не сильно враждующими с вами соперниками.
Огромное количество диалогов между союзниками, большое количество выборов, довольно интересный сюжет, потрясающий саундтрек и отсутствие (почти) фэнтези-рас, по типу орков, гномов и т.п., сделали эту игру одной из любимых.
Наконец-то это не очередной говёный сюжет беседки, где к тебе относятся как к говну на протяжении всего развития персонажа, а игра, в которой ты занимаешь хоть какой-то пост и к тебе относятся с почтением, т.к. ты аж Вершитель Судеб (по сути глаза, руки и рот главного судьи) что позволяет как-то щеголять корочкой судьи и несомненно приносит удовольствие.
Tyranny - одна из немногих игр, в которые мне было интересно побыстрее вернуться и доиграть в нее, даже после перерывов.
Начал сразу же проходить второй раз, благо в игре есть новая игра+, сделал другие выборы в предыстории и да, игра действительно преобразилась, почти во всех диалогах с повстанцами они удивлялись моему прибытию, благодарили за то, что я сделал для них в предыстории, когда в первом прохождении они плевались при моем приближении. Во второй раз половина локаций преобразилась, ими правят другие фракции, появились другие квесты (например, чтобы активировать первый Столп, мне вообще не пришлось решать загадок и пробиваться с боем).
Если действительно сравнивать игру с той же Divinity 2, хоть они довольно сильно отличаются, рпг элементов в этой игре намного больше.
Искренне жаль, что такие игры не получают продолжений и должного признания, потому что я получил огромное удовольствие от прохождения этой игры и диалогов в ней
Tyranny is a weird game to review because I actually liked the game, but also feel like it has flaws so huge that I can't actually recommend it in good conscience.
First, the biggest reason I'm giving the game a negative review, despite enjoying it: At one point I encountered a bug that made it literally impossible to progress the main story. It turns out that making certain choices in a certain quest just leads you to a state where your main story quest is impossible to complete, and the only way to continue is to load an old save before you made those choices (and if you don't have one you're just screwed). And that's just not a forgivable bug to have, and I'm not going to leave a positive review to a game that has it. And the game is no longer supported, so that bug will never get fixed.
The game also had a ton of smaller bugs. Some were very minor, some were major ones that could lead to breaking side quests and making them impossible to complete but at least not breaking the main story. It's apparently also extremely easy to break the main quest of the DLC and lock yourself out of completing it, but fortunately I was able to avoid that.
As far as the game itself goes besides the bugs, I think it has a lot of great ideas but a lot of big issues with the execution. I like the idea of an RPG where being evil is the default path and you have to go out of your way if you want to try to actually be a hero, the opposite of most RPGs. I really liked the game's worldbuilding and thought it had a pretty good main story, and while the last act was short I actually really liked the direction it went (at least for me). The game does branching paths well, with multiple routes through the game and factions that you can side with that can lead the story in very different directions.
I liked the party members you get overall. They're not my favorite cast of party members in an RPG, but they're all interesting characters. Unfortunately, the actual development of their personal stories are lacking. Three of them have some good interactions with the main story but overall their own personal story never goes anywhere. The other three actually do have pretty good personal side quests that develop them as characters, but they're all locked behind a paid DLC, even though only one of them actually has any connection to the rest of the DLC's content whatsoever.
The big issue with the story was the way some choices were handled. There are a lot of moments where it felt like you really should have a choice in something, but just don't. Things like discovering an ally has a scheme your character might disapprove of but being forced to play into it, or discovering new information that completely changes the morality of your mission but being forced to carry out the mission anyway. For a game that clearly really wants you to get into the roleplaying, having moments where major choices are just taken away from you for no reason really hurts that and breaks immersion. I liked where my character's story arc began and ended but there are points in the middle where I basically have to headcannon certain quests going differently because the game forced me to do something that made no sense for the way I was roleplaying my character.
I haven't talked about the combat at all so far, and that's because it was mostly just forgettable and easy. It's mostly just pretty standard real-time-with-pauses CRPG combat. It's got a cool spell system where you can customize a lot of aspects of your spells which I really liked, but besides that it was forgettable. I played on the second-highest difficulty but, after the first act, never even came remotely close to failing any fights in the game. I couldn't turn up the difficulty to get more of a challenge because the highest difficulty can only be chosen at the game start.
In the end, without the game-breaking bug, I'd be very conflicted on whether to give this game a positive review or a negative one. It has a cool concept and I enjoyed the world, many of its characters, and the overall story, and it had some moments that actually offered really interesting choices. At the same time, the combat was mostly too easy to be interesting, it's got tons of other bugs too, at some points in the story it forced me to do things that really should have been a choice, and there are some great party member quests that really should be in the core game but are locked behind paid DLC. But the game-breaking bugged sealed the deal.
I wouldn't say no one should play this game. It is still a cool game that does some really interesting things. But if you do play it, save often and be ready for some possible frustration with the story forcing you to do things that should be choices.

this deserves a sequel but know how useless and incompetent this companies upper managment is alas we wont see it
Tyranny is a short CRPG with a wonderful premise. The art is displayed beautifully, the gameplay has a moderate amount of depth, and although the world isn't as dynamic as I'd normally enjoy, the story beats and decision moments have legitimate impact on the overall narrative.
The game is great if you want to play a CRPG that feels familiar, concise, and narratively engaging.
