This is one of my favourite RPG Maker/Pixel horror games. The puzzles are good and has a creepy atmosphere, but what I mainly love about this game is the story. Would recommend for people who want dark/horror content with a meaningful, emotional, touching and inspiring story.

Honestly it's such an experience. It doesn't fail on the horror and melancholy but at the same time it was so beautiful and such a well made story it touched my heart. For someone like me, who's pretty into quick horror stories with a message and story behind it was a full meal. Had a very great and entertained time too, the gameplay is pretty easy and there's no such a thing as boring time.

If you grew up loving rpgmaker games, this is a classic that must be played at least once. If dedicated enough, definitely play it twice for a few surprises in the end... I will always have a fond spot for this game and I am so glad to play it again after many years. Must be honest, definitely shed some tears towards the end of my first playthrough, but I'm a big baby who cries at most things bahaha

There are at times some baseless running around if you miss something (e.g. not checking something twice for a new command prompt) and if you don't know where to go can feel like you're stuck... Older simpler art style in scenes may throw some people off, but I find it very charming. I love David and all the characters met along the way. Make sure to save often as a few times i lost good amount of progress haha

I played with my sister, which if you can, I think playing with someone else watching is a great experience, home-made voice-acting definitely makes it all so much more fun! I went achievement hunting in my second play thru, which depending on if u want a higher chance at a seamless game & story and not boring your playmate is probs a sm,art move (And to get all achievemnts you must play twice)

Excited to play the other games in the same series!

Es Aventura con ritmo Casual (sí, casual: puedes asustarte a tu propio paso), pero con suficiente misterio y tensión como para que no quieras apagar la luz.

La propuesta es simple y efectiva: exploración, narrativa, decisiones y finales múltiples. No es un parque de diversiones; es más bien una casa embrujada con guion decente y ganas de incomodarte. Primera impresión: “esto se ve pixelado y humilde”… segunda impresión: “ok, me está metiendo presión psicológica con dos sonidos y un pasillo”.

The Crooked Man es como ese amigo raro que no habla mucho, pero cuando te cuenta algo te deja pensando toda la noche. Su fuerte es la historia y la ambientación: hace terror psicológico con recursos modestos y aun así te arrastra al misterio. No es “acción y aventura” de adrenalina; es supervivencia emocional con linterna imaginaria.

Ahora, seamos controversiales: si esperas innovación jugable, aquí no la vas a encontrar. Es un viaje narrativo con estructura conocida, y su compatibilidad parcial con mando es ese tipo de detalle que grita “yo fui pensado para teclado, arréglatelas”. Aun así, con 1109 recomendaciones, claramente no estás solo en esto… aunque irónicamente el juego sí te deja solo.

Y sí: hay 2 jugadores actuales. Eso no significa que sea malo; significa que el terror viejo y bueno se juega en silencio, cuando a la gente le da por abrir la carpeta de “indies que me debo”. Si te gustan los misterios oscuros en 2D con finales múltiples, vale la pena.

En resumen: recomendable, pero no vengas fingiendo que no sabías a qué clase de sufrimiento te estabas apuntando.

게임 막힘은 다행히 없었습니다
퍼즐 푸는건 간단한 게임!

그리고 컨트롤만 좋으면 한 대도 안 맞고
괴물따위도 그냥 처리하는!

하지만 히든엔딩(?)을 보기 위해서
2주차 플레이에서 스피드런을 빠르게 했습니다
이거만 뺴면 완벽할 듯

This was a very fun game to play; I loved solving the puzzles and finding out the real identity of the Crooked Man.

[spoiler]I was in shambles when I saw Duke's body hanging at the end of the first playthrough. For a lot of people it might not have meant much it moved me especially because we find out what he experienced and how he felt in his life through the characters Sissy, D, and Fluffy. That's why I'm not surprised why the Crooked Man targeted those three characters[/spoiler]

That said, I thought the second playthrough was really unnecessary. There's only a few extra scenes regarding [spoiler]Duke[/spoiler] near the end but that's about it. They didn't need to make us play through the entire game again just for those scenes. Regardless, it's a fun game with a good plot.

Played this game long ago. Enjoyed it a lot back then, and I still do. Poor David. When it rains, it pours. The Croocked Man is probably my favorite among the titles in the series. I used to think the croocked man was scary ghost, but now that I look at him again, he is... still scary, but more like a creepy stalker.

Just finished the game for the first time ever and spent a good while sobbing afterwards. This game tackles many heavy subjects/themes beautifully, puts it all in a horror setting and it's packaged as a cute 2D pixel game. Incredible story, engaging characters and a very moving ending. I bought the whole series and can't wait to play the others. One thousand percent recommend.

一般吧，有强制解密顺序，有很多地方明明已经知道要干什么了，非要触发别的剧情才能进行这一步，导致我有几个地方卡了好久，比如那个医院的猫那里，[spoiler]不能和猫正面交互取钥匙，非得走侧面交互，而且这个钥匙和后面的剧情完全没有任何关系，但是不取钥匙就无法在餐厅遇见小孩，完全没有任何逻辑，就是强制解密顺序。不遇见小孩即使已经拿到了那个什么心脏起搏器还是什么的，主角也不能直接取电池打开密码锁，非常莫名其妙，所有需要的道具已经在包里了，密码锁密码我也知道了，但是不走猫那里拿到暂时没有任何用的钥匙就无法推进剧情[/spoiler]。剧情也挺无聊的，地图搞那么多房间，大部分房间还无法交互，每次碰上去都要弹一遍提示框特别浪费时间，二周目打了会感觉和一周目的剧情没任何变化，说是只有结尾剧情有点偏差，那很无聊了。不过毕竟是十年前的游戏了，没有中评，实在无聊可以打折买了玩玩

Este es sin duda el mejor RPG que he jugado hasta el día de hoy. La historia es preciosa, ha conseguido erizarme la piel tanto por sentir miedo, como por sentir pena y nostalgia. Muy bien narrado, consiguiendo dar una personalidad propia a cada personaje, y desembocando éstos en varios finales. Los gráficos son una pasada, consiguen una ambientación espectacular. Dispone de muchas horas de juego, grandes reflexiones y logros sencillos de conseguir durante la historia. No incluye traducción al español a pesar de que la comunidad le ha hecho una, así que lo tengo que valorar como 9/10 solo porque me he tenido que tragar el juego completo en inglés. Recomendado, por lo que cuesta de verdad que merece la pena.

This game is really great if you like rpgmaker-esque genre!!!
Only thing i will say was a downside to this game is that some puzzles aren't the most intuitive. Due to this i did have to use a guide for two puzzles as I didn't know where the game wanted me to go.
However, the puzzles that the game does well to push you towards, when you figure them out it's a really rewarding feeling.
I only wished that the game would cut the player off from areas once they don't need them anymore as it did cause for some uneeded backtracking that could of been avoided!

Still a masterpiece to this day, emotional and full of scares, made me jump a few times unlike most horror games nowadays.
The story is beautifully crafted, the first time I saw the story was almost 12 years watching Pewdiepie playing it and I remember I liked it back then too and now I can confidently say that it's indeed a masterpiece, it's up there with Mad Father, Misao, Witch's House and the rest.
God I wish the RPGmaker horror games era never stopped since so many of them were really amazing and really well crafted..
It's easily a 10/10.

Im obssessed with this game ever since I saw a streamer play it when I was a primary school student, it wasn't dissappointing at all even with the whole game spoiled to me completely.

The puzzles sometimes do get annoying throughout the series especially thehangedman but i suppose that applies to almost all RPGmaker horrors.

Конкретно об этой игре до недавнего времени вообще не слышала, хотя являюсь большим фанатом игр на рпг мэйкере, да и тот же mermaid swamp в далекие 16-ые года проходила. Так что совершенно не могу понять как пропустила такую замечательную серию (а тут именно серия игр, которую я планирую закрыть полностью) решительно не понятно!

Сюжет интересный, локации выполнены хорошо, звуковое сопровождение очень в тему. Особенно гнетущая тишина в 3-ей сцене. там прям вся атмосфера заброшенной больницы чувствуется максимально ярко. Все персонажи импонируют до единого (Кроме девушки гг очень взбесила, но вроде исправила косяки).
Однозначно рекомендую игру 10/10. Ачивки все собраны на 100%, будет время сделаю на нее значок, очень уж понравилась история.

Oh my god i loved this game, the story, the characters were all amazing, I didnt quite like the boss fights but maybe its just cause im not good at fast-paced manoeuvring in 2D pixel games like these but other than that i think this is an amazing game with a great story and i do recommend it if you enjoy psychological horror and the Silent HIll games.

I liked this game a lot, i liked exploring and solving puzzles even know they were just number puzzles because i can tell the person who made this either can't program puzzles or this version of RPG maker has limitations

I liked the story, it really did feel like Silent Hill a lot, and yes the ending cutscene almost made me choke up, mostly because of my own experience in life

Art style is funky, it has that anime but miscolored look and it's very wonky where it's constantly off model and i find it funny how in game it says simply revolver as a weapon but yet in the drawn portrait David is holding a berreta for some reason like what is the consistency?

Puzzles - Didn't feel like puzzles like i mentioned, more just number solving and just collecting items super easily where it's heavily scripted, i don't mind this if fun but it does take away from the player solving things

Also i always do this when i say "What if this was an achievement" and i was right again, i joked about the energy drink and not drinking it at all and i might earn an achievement, and i drank it, then turns out i was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ right when i checked the acheivements when i finished the game. Also won't ever forget Markiplier playing through this and laughing at the sudden rooftop smoking scene, i distingly remember that and i see why now that's funny

Scary level - 5/10, it had pretty good jumpscares i'll give it that

An Excellent psychological horror game, heavily inspired by Silent Hill. Has some of the best writing I've seen in a horror game. Game play is a little repetitive and the puzzles whilst mostly well designed are occasionally clunky in their execution. Technically speaking the game runs excellently on all hardware to my knowledge, even my old laptop.

The first entry of the strange man series really is a must play for horror game fans and I would recommend the games sequels which build on what makes this game good to make some truly great horror experiences.

Used to love rewatching playthroughs of these games and decided to play it myself and really enjoyed it. It has all the usual rpg maker horror game elements. The puzzles are mostly straightforward. I only consulted a guide once. As typical with these kind of games, the combat is awkward. Thankfully those segments are brief. The story is actually very good. It covers some pretty grim subjects (chronic illness, suicide) from the perspective of mostly a single character. As others have mentioned the story is very 'silent hill'. Overall probably not my favorite in this genre but very solid.

To begin with - at first glance this game seems to be creepy, by looking into its game cover (thats why it hocked me to play this game at first place). But. As you progress through game, you dont have your own will of doing other things besides the main storyline (i was trying to check EVERYTHING to find a secret that would lead me to an achivement), cmon! you dont have freedom of doing what you want. Sometimes (usually*) you need an item and then go back to the location where you need to use 'that' item and repeat. It got on my nerves when i didnt knew what to do, seriously, give me hints atleast! And for the last - saves. Dude, i had to start chapter one again because i thought you can save in the story itself, and besides that, if you want all the achivements, YOU have to save every damn time (or atleast the start of a chapter). The 2/3 of the game is good part, I got the point of the game wants to told, and i liked the ending. I wouldnt try to rerun the game for the achivements because its slow and boring. One-time play. 4.8/10

As far as RPGMaker horror games go, this one is pretty solid, if nothing really spectacular. It's kind of creepy, it's got some nice art screens, the story isn't too bad, and the characters are okay too. The main thing that lets this game down is the combat, which is absolutely awful. Thankfully there's not much of it, but it's really really bad. Which is especially annoying given that there are achievements related to doing the horrible combat encounters perfectly. If you can ignore that problem, it's a decent game.

I grew up playing rpg horror games and recently decided to replay some of them.

While the steam release doesn't add any extra content to the game (except for achievements, badges and cards) i would personally recommend buying the steam version to support the creator if you are wanting to replay and have the funds to do so. it might not be much, but something is something.

i would love to see a visual remake in the future as i personally love the plot of the game and thinks it deserves to have one.

Considerando que este jogo é o primeiro de uma série de jogos, posso afirmar que, para mim, ele já estabelece um padrão de qualidade altíssimo para essa coleção. O grande brilho do jogo está em sua narrativa, que utiliza o sobrenatural para falar de temas muito reais como traumas, depressão e abandono. Além disso, há um paralelo narrativo fascinante que interliga a história do protagonista, David, e a figura do "Crooked Man", o que torna a jornada uma grande mistura entre entender o monstro e se autoconhecer.
Tecnicamente, eu não tive problemas com o jogo, não encontrei bugs e também não tive problemas que atrapalhassem a experiência. Como o primeiro capítulo da série The Strange Man, ele cumpre seu papel com louvor e me deixou extremamente animado para jogar os próximos.

This is a classic of Uri's 'Strange Men' series, and was popularized (at least in English speaking culture) by Pewdiepie's playthrough way back in ye olde 2013. I will say, content warning for those who have severe depression.

It is definitely a relic of its time, and the graphics, while charming and made with care, are a sign of it. If you aren't too familiar with RPGmaker gameplay of this sort, it is very 'solve puzzle, find key, open new door' gameplay loop. If you are looking for something deeply unsettling, you will not find it here (in the same vein, I recommend Paranoiac which is horrifying), and I think the Crooked Man excels more at being emotionally compelling than anything.

I have some issues with the gameplay, namely the boss fight sequences. For a game that requires absolutely zero technical skill, throwing the player into a technically challenging sequence (that is exceedingly unfair and frustrating) is such a curveball. The monster will often stunlock the player, sometimes doing half of the MC's entire health in a single motion. For those who are not looking for a skill-based experience, this can be a turnoff.

My other issues are with the portrayal of David's mental health. It felt as though he went from low to high risk in the matter of an instant, then proceeded to finish the game with absolutely no self-harm tendencies whatsoever. I suppose there is a metaphor of the monster clinging to you and causing anguish, influencing your decisions. However, if David seriously intended to do what he implied on the rooftop, he needs serious psychiatric intervention. For a game that is entirely based on that concept, it should have had some bigger ramifications and shown the proper path for a person to take. Not everyone has a support system like David's friends or gf, and even then having those people does not automatically make those feelings go away. The reintroduction of David's gf felt like a 'see, now he has her, so he can't be sad anymore', which is objectively just not how depression works. I don't believe the author had negative intentions and it is not the worst depiction of mental health issues I have seen, but I suppose it could have been handled more thoroughly.

Generally though, the game is a neat experience. It's an absolute steal if you're wanting a fun spooky experience. I will always say support indie devs and the way this game is 2.99 (1.49 on sale at time of writing) it's worth it.

I found this game to be surprisingly cheap for what it is.
I thought the story was very interesting, and it took a turn I wasn't expecting. Most of the characters are nice (excluding a couple that didn't grew on me), their interactions were entertaining and funny at times, and the story didn´t fail to get to me (message received!).
It isn't a specially terrifying game, it got spooky at times but nothing too crazy, just enough to make you feel uneasy, and I personally think the puzzels were well phased. Perfect for begginers and those who are not huge fans of horror.
I will defenitely be playing the rest of the series!

This game has a flaw that will make you bash your head against the keyboard when you first come across it. It doesn't auto-save, so make sure to save the game yourself every once in a while. It only auto-saves before some scenes, but trust me, you can and will die easily when not watching a walkthrough, because sometimes what you have to do is just stupid (spoiler: [spoiler] if the crooked man touches you sometimes you are instantly killed, but you somehow get to punch, push and stab him with no problems during quick actions WHICH AGAIN MAKES NO SENSE WHEN YOU LEARN THAT YOU SHOULDN'T COME IN CONTACT WITH HIM FROM THE FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH HIM. It's also for the most part a walking simulator with dialogue that barely resembles normal human interactions. The puzzles are sometimes baffling and the story overall is pretty hard to grasp, but that is not a problem since games like this kinda make it fun to theorize and come to your own conclusions, even if the story tries to give you an explanation, it doesn't really make a lot of sense.
Overall, I think this is the type of game that is more entertaining to watch rather than play, I wouldn't tell you to completely avoid it, but make sure before you play that this game suits your preferences.

A good little game, with a few annoying flaws.
The Good:
-The story is good, and is probably going to feel relatable to almost everyone these days.
-The game is spooky and occasionally will startle you, but it's an RPGmaker horror game, it's not going to launch you out of your seat. Still did get my attention a few times!
-The puzzles are roughly 80% good. You usually have a good idea of where to go next and what to do. They are fun, engaging, and keep you focused enough that the scares do hit home well enough.
-The locations are both pretty and interesting, I don't quite know why but I thoroughly enjoyed exploring every location in the game.

The Bad:
-The remaining 20% of the puzzles will make you pull your hair out. There are so many times when a puzzle's clues misdirect you, I ended up having to use a guide twice and in both instances it was a matter of "Really..?"
-The Ending choices you make feel very arbitrary and silly. I am sure you are supposed to get into character and realize what each choice needs to be by what the target needs to hear, but it's just not quite there for me.
-The game often throws situations at you and then kills you/fails the game for you not thinking to do something you have no reason to think to do. This game will tell you to run, then kill you for running, and oh goody, the save system is entirely manual so if you don't predict a sudden chance of death, and die, you might be back to the beginning of the chapter.
-The combat is awful. No way around it. Why is it here?
-Achievements for failures are always a negative. Don't broadcast how many times I died trying to figure out what I was actually supposed to do when you said "Run".

All in all, a solid RPGMaker horror game that makes up for the limitations of the engine with a relatable story, excellent use of discomfort and dread, and a reasonable amount of scares. For 3 dollars this is a no-brainer.
