TLDR: this game series is full of bugs (including GAME BREAKING bugs that appear only after you've bought the third game and spent more than 2 hours playing it so you can't refund it) and the developers are not providing meaningful support. DO NOT BUY.

The deeper you get into the trilogy the buggier it gets. It gets really bad in BS2. Visuals bug out: scenes don't make sense because characters don't render when they're supposed to. Characters you've invested lots of resources in lose critical skills when you level them up for no apparent reason. Even worse these are known bugs that the developer has explicitly said they are not going to fix.

But then once you're $75 in and 3/4 of the way done with the story, the game-breaking bugs appear in BS3. FREQUENT crashes. Loading screens that never resolve. These are extra game-breaking because of how the save system works: there's no manual save, so if you spent 45 minutes completing a complex fight, and the game crashes--oops, now you have to redo it all! Even more maddening? You might have to do it a third time, a fourth time, or more! There's no way to know how many retries it'll take, or if it's just impossible to finish the game.

Even worse, the developers are just like, "oopsie, dunno why that happened! Join our Discord server where people are sharing weird workarounds like uninstalling the game and reinstalling it on an HDD!"

Suffice to say I feel very ripped off.

I wanted to like this game, since I really enjoyed the first part of the Banner Saga. Unfortunately, one bug, still not solved after years of being on the market, makes the game nearly unplayable for me: Every hour or so, I loose the ability to shuffle around my toons on the battlefield before a fight and have to go with whatever line-up the game is forcing on me. In tactical, turn-based combat on basically a chessboard that's a killer. The only thing that seems to help is to restart my PC, which I'm really not enjoying.

Also, game language switches from English to German every. single.time I start up the game. Why? Guys, it's been a few years. Why no bugfixing?

但同时，完全是机翻水平的汉化（我一度怀疑是自己语文水平太低，导致第一周目对剧情理解不进去，但二周目与三周目刷成就时再细看了两遍剧情文本，确定了，这丫就是机翻），完全不可预见的分支选择项（战斗时被击倒不会死队友，但一个看着没啥危险的对话选项直接干掉我最强战力队友，这设计是在考验人心理承受力？），看似大气磅礴其实白烂到极致的主线剧情（从一代过来我一直以为这剧情的主题是“诸神逝去，文明衰弱”“人类生生不息”的史诗，结果...原来一切的祸首是一段禁忌师生恋！！）。
还有，人物塑造与剧情分配非常怪异，一开始你以为是重要角色甚至主角的人物，到了某个剧情点突然就没戏份了，或者某个之前几乎没咋登场的人物，突然担纲成了主线的核心，拉着一支新队伍负责了后面的一半主线剧情...反正就是很无语，更别提这些转场还会不可阻挡地影响战斗人员的构成，我之前投入大量声望练出来的某个主力队友，随着剧情发展说跑就跑，让人直想骂娘。
总之这是一巨大优点与重大缺点并存的作品，而从我三周目通关后的直观情绪看，这丫的缺点之大，已经盖过其闪光点了。

An excellent continuation from the first game! The team did a really good at expanding the scope from the first game while not taking it too far. More PCs, races, and overall more interesting choices too! Its really refreshing to play something so narratively driven. The writers really took there time to create a story that is compelling, meaningful, and deep. Paired with stunning artwork, its easy to see where the secret sauce of this game comes from. Human and Varl all the way!

Just rolled credits on this one, and I feel like it's overall an improvement from an already amazing first chapter: the story is really good as expected, battle mechanics stay largely the same but are improved in some nice ways, so overall this is a good, really good sequel, despite having the usual issue of the second chapter of a trilogy, which is the fact that you must play the third chapter immediately after as the ending of this game does not satisfy enough.
To be fair, the final chapter of The Banner Saga 2 is its main weak point. It serves only the purpose of hyping you up for the third game (which, mind you, it does), but does not really feel like a good ending for a game. Also, the final battle is just boring, contrasting heavily with every strategic idea that you develop during the game.
Will surely play the third chapter, but that ending really took something away from what would have been a perfect sequel for the first game.

A good continuation of the saga, of which this is the middle of the three. Not as engaging as the first one, but then I am playing them back, rather than waiting ~2 years for each new game to come out. You can get the whole trilogy pretty cheaply at times, and it may well be worth your time. It is a slow-paced game, but decisions have on-going ramifications even from one game to the next (and next).

9/10 in a deep 90% sale, and drop a point for every 20% less off than that

Great game. I liked it more than the first one, [spoiler]save for the ending.[/spoiler] Great tactical gameplay (which I still think I'm bad at), great music, great vibes (love a good "doomed world" scenario). They improved the Renown system from the first game, in that it's actually possible to level up your characters *and* feed your clansmen, which is nice. Love the fact that you can take your save and your characters from the first game and continue their story here. Really looking forward to the finale.

Things I didn't like:
-[spoiler]Eyeless. Those fights are both a pain in the ass, and not in a fun way. Really not a fan of battles where you take out the main target and their reinforcements show up for round two, but yours don't.[/spoiler]
-[spoiler]This game suffers from "second entry in a trilogy" syndrome, in that it serves as a buildup for the next entry, to its own detriment. I really hope they explain Juno and Eyvind's deal in the third game, because I'm sick of not knowing what's going on there.[/spoiler]
-[spoiler]I did not care for the final battle in this entry. Bellower was a great fight in the first game. Wish they'd at least let me try to kill Eyeless at the end of this one (even if she sucks). Really hoping I don't have to fight her *and* Bellower at the end of the game three.[/spoiler]
-This game has a bug that prevents you from rearranging your units before a battle starts. The devs are on record saying they're not going to fix it. Fine—the game's ten years old now. Still a pain in the ass. At least restarting your game fixes it.

All that said, I enjoyed it.

solid follow up the first game. strongly recommend playing the first game and using your imported data, it makes the story feel more impactful and personal. game is once again split into two parties but they feel more distinct for a variety of reasons and really add to the experience here.

couple of improvement in terms of combat : max levels are raised, and with it they added talents, which have interesting interactions and add more depth to your choices. second caravan features brand new classes your first caravan will not have, further adding on top of a pretty decent set of offerings.

controller support, much like the first game, is still not fantastic.

if you played the first game odds are you probably already considered this and yeah, more banner saga, still good, still bleak, still great to play.

I love the beautiful Banner Saga trilogy, with its art direction inspired by Eyvind Earle's work. It's a tactical with a light visual novel angle and beautiful drawings to tell and play an old myth.

I find it difficult to judge each of the three chapters separately, but it's a real pleasure to revisit this series a decade later.

Тяжело представить, каково было игрокам 2016 года, когда перед ними появилась очевидная "середина", требующая ожидания. Тем не менее, пишу как игрок, получивший возможность сразу перейти к третьей части после этой. На мой взгляд, сюжетно сиквел очень хорош. В нём нет откровенных провисаний, а линии, заложенные в первой части и здесь, в третьей будут таки раскрыты. К счастью, в этой части я терял куда меньше караванцев и персонажей (возможно, так заложено игрой, и мой выбор не особо решал, но буду верить в себя!). Появление Ругги - интересный ход, который славно обыграют в третьей части. Геймплейно отличий мало, но они всё же есть, да и лично я шёл к этому продолжению не за новыми механиками всё же. В общем, лично по мне, продолжение получилось таким, каким и должно было быть.

schön und stimmungsvoll, die Helden(Grund)-Fähigkeiten sind leider nicht so einfach zu erkennen,
und die Story nimmt einem oft Helden, die man mühsam und teuer aufgewertet hat, einfach so weg,
bei den Dialogen sind die ausgelösten Ereignisse durch die Fragestellungen oft nicht klar zu erkennen, ggf. ist das ein Problem der Übersetzung!?
Und trotzdem kann man nicht aufhören, weil es sonst gut gemacht ist...

I think many other reviews have accurately captured the problems in this game but I'm happy to rehash. I loved the first game, I thought it was excellent in just about every respect. The combat was challenging but fair, and the world dark but still containing hope. This sequel feels more like a gritty reboot than a sequel in kind. Every decision just causes you to lose more people to random events, being kind is punished because this is the real world, where bad things happen to good people-not a baby game like Banner Saga 1. The writing was also clearly struggling to keep up with the events of the first game and you had your agency taken away at some key moments because the plot needs to happen. It's also a mystery to me why they decided to add in a bunch of RNG to the combat. It was a well balanced game before but now you're dependent on dice rolls to see how combats turn out. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I bought this and the third together on sale, so I'll play the third, but if I hadn't bought them bundled, I'm fairly certain I wouldn't give Banner Saga 3 a chance.

There are games that tell you a story, and there are games that drag you through one. The Banner Saga 2 belongs unapologetically to the second category. It doesn’t ask whether you’re ready to continue; it just continues.

Picking up immediately after the first game, Banner Saga 2 feels less like a sequel and more like the next episode of an amazing series. There is no triumphant reset, no comforting recap that lets you feel safe. Whether it's Alette you chose to save, or Rook, that very choice to sacrifice one of your first main characters to take you on this story already weighs heavy on you! If you let Alette die, Rook starts off exhausted, depressed, having lost his daughter how else could he continue? He is trying to lead the caravan, looking for safety from the dredge as well as the bigger threat that looms in the distance, but he's already through... All he's ever thinking of is to join his daughter in the hereafter, in a glorious way if that's possible. If you've let Rook die in the first game and saved Alette... She is now stronger, having lost her father made her less trusting, and more eager to train her bow skills to be able to land even the craziest shots (She actually IS, to me, the better choice! At the beginning of the second game, she's unstoppable and will NEVER lose a single battle with her overwatch ability, but more on that later). Alette leads the caravan with fervor, while Rook leads it nonchalantly! Alette turns the death of her father into strength, and Rook turns the death of his daughter into complete weakness and lack of judgement... I've played both paths, Alette seems to me like the CANON choice to make.

Visually, it doubles down on its hand-painted aesthetic, and it’s still one of the most striking identities in modern strategy RPGs. The art isn’t flashy or loud; it’s solemn. Characters don’t pose heroically... They just revel in survival! Well except maybe for Sparr; he likes to taunt others for the benefit of the team.

Combat remains turn-based, but Banner Saga 2 refines it in subtle ways rather than reinventing it. Battles are puzzles of attrition where every move carries consequence. Strength doubles as health, meaning aggression is also survival, and hesitation is often punished. The new enemy types and unit interactions push you to rethink habits formed in the first game, without ever feeling like arbitrary difficulty spikes. Winning rarely feels glorious... just necessary!

What truly defines Banner Saga 2, though, is its writing. Dialogue is restrained, often understated, and deliberately avoids clear moral framing. The game continues its habit of pinning you in a corner and asking you to do... horrible things, truly testing your morality! But sometimes, what's moral ends up getting one of your characters killed... and what's immoral will just end up saving your whole caravan from starvation! There are no truer translations to the universe of Banner Saga. Personally, I think Banner Saga 2 is a [b]10/10[/b] Tactical RPG that adds new things to the previous entry and leaves space for more mechanics and things to add for the third entry, that I'll be reviewing very soon as well.

+++ ACHTUNG: Der dritte Teil dieser Serie, der die Story zum Ende führt, ist leider hochgradig UNSPIELBAR. Diverse spielzerstörende Bugs, endlose Ladebildschirme und wahllose Crashes führen dazu, dass manche Storyoptionen nicht auswählbar sind oder Kämpfe zig mal wiederholt werden müssen. Daher habe ich meine zunächst positive Bewertung geändert, da man über Teil 1 und 2 brilliant bespaßt wird, nur um dann im dritten Teil ungebremst in den Allerwertesten genommen zu werden +++

Für TBS2 gilt: Grandiose Fortsetzung des bereits sehr gelungenen ersten Teils.
Die Inszenierung sucht wieder Ihresgleichen. Das Kampfsystem wurde verbessert (ist aber immer noch, pardon, nicht auf XCOM-Level, um den Vergleich zum König der CRPG-likes zu ziehen). Die Story zieht mich weiter in ihren Bann und ich liebe es, meine Truppe aus Teil 1 direkt übernehmen zu können. Teil 3 fährt bereits hoch.

Auch hier empfehle ich, es aufgrund der doch in Summe geringen Spielzeit im Sale zu erwerben.

This is a saga where choices truly matter, and their consequences can echo from the first game all the way to the third. For this reason, I strongly recommend playing the trilogy by importing your saves from one game to the next, as this is where the series truly shines.

In my opinion, this is the best game in the trilogy.
Combat is significantly improved thanks to new abilities, playstyles, and character types, making battles more engaging and strategic. The exploration is breathtaking, with stunning fantasy landscapes and truly epic scenes that constantly reward the player visually. The game is filled with moments that are simply wonderful to look at.

The introduction of a morally distinct character, very different from those encountered so far, greatly enhanced the role-playing aspect and made narrative choices even more interesting and entertaining.
The biggest flaw of this chapter is its shorter duration compared to the first game.
Aside from that, it was an incredible experience from start to finish.

Il gioco continua la storia del primo capitolo e ne segue le orme anche come struttura del gameplay / strategia.

STORIA:
Il lungo viaggio della carovana per allontanarsi dall'oscurità dei distruttori continua e resta una bella lettura. Non ci sono vere e proprie scene di intermezzo, giusto 2-3 molto brevi, ma classici paragrafi con parecchie storie di personaggi e avventure da scoprire. A volte alcuni plot di trama risultano non molto intuibili e scritti in maniera disordinata, ma nel complesso risulta gradevole. Alcuni bei personaggi e altri purtroppo che vengono appena accennati.
In questo secondo capitolo manca un vero "villain" da fare da contorno, dove distruttori e oscurità vengono visti come la vera minaccia.

GAMEPLAY.
Il gioco si basa un un combat a turni a caselle, classico della serie fire emblem, qui con un sistema molto semplificato e con qualche sbavatura dal punto di vista delle abilità e movimento.
Spesso i combattimenti risultano troppo "caotici" , non sfruttando appieno le vere abilità dei personaggi, e si tende quasi sempre a preferire un approccio diretto basato sulla forza, in quanto troppo superiore agli altri stili.
Non sono presenti molte battaglie, alcune si possono aggirare in base alle scelte fatte, ma ogni volta si ha la netta sensazione che queste mancanze strutturali di gameplay vengano in qualche modo compensate da sfide sempre sbilanciate a favore dei nemici, i quali appaiono spesso su piu' turni, rendendo nulla la strategia di posizionamento sul campo.
Il resto del gioco è dato dalla gestione della carovana, delle risorse e dai vari combattenti, che possono aumentare o dimezzarsi in base alle tante scelte da dover fare durante il tragitto.

GRAFICA:
La parte migliore del gioco e sicuramente l impatto artistico, con scenari pre renderizzati completamente a mano e di grande impatto. Ottima anche la realizzazione dei personaggi. Il tutto con una grande colonna sonora di contorno.

Nelle poco meno di 10 ore necessarie a completare il gioco, il titolo è consigliato a chi ha già giocato il primo capitolo e chi vuole provare una serie con una bella storia e un ottimo set norreno come ambientazione, al netto di qualche sbavatura dal lato gameplay.

Magnifico. Un gioco strategico a turni RPG che toglie il fiato e fa emozionare.
A chi piace la mitologia norrena, leggere e l'animazione 2D. Colonna sonora fantastica, i disegni e il design ancora di più. Mi sono innamorato dei suoi personaggi, del loro stile e delle loro storie e ho seguito la storia di Alette e Rook dall'inizio con il primo capitolo fino alla fine. Non nego che sono scese delle lacrime durante i vari capitoli. Giocato e rigiocato più e più volte i primi due per scoprire tutte le storie e le varie trame, purtroppo solo una volta il terzo poiché a causa della natura del mio lavoro non posso dedicare più tanto tempo al gaming.
E forse solo questa l'unica pecca che non è una pecca: il gioco salva automaticamente dopo aver preso decisioni importanti, parlato con personaggi e finito battaglie, spesso sovrascrivendo l'ultimo salvataggio del capitolo (non permettendo quindi di vedere gli altri dialoghi una volta presa una scelta). Forse se avrò abbastanza tempo nel futuro mi rigiocherò anche questo capitolo per esplorare i percorsi di trama.

Each unit now feels more defined, with unique roles that synergize with others in more interesting ways. The introduction of new abilities encourages experimentation, and the increased variety of encounters keeps battles from becoming predictable. Despite these improvements, the combat remains punishing; one misstep or unexpected enemy action can quickly tilt the tide, especially when injuries or losses carry forward into future encounters. This harshness reinforces the game’s overarching tone, reminding players that victory often comes at a price.

The visual and musical presentation is once again a standout achievement. Depressing, linear and boring game with bad game mechanics. Boring dialogues are impossible to scroll, the same applies to unit movements. Almost any decisions made have negative consequences. You need to spend resources exclusively on food and on leveling ONLY the main characters, but you will find out who to level only if you complete the mission. ♥♥♥♥. I do not advise you to spoil your mood and spend time and money. The picture is not worth it.

An excellent game that I highly recommend! My only problem is that the game actively damages its own replayability by attaching Renown to achievements, and thus making any subsequent playthroughs much harder. I've had a nightmare of a time trying to get my family into Banner Saga, and actually fell off it for a long time because life got in the way and I ended up having to restart the game a couple times, only to find the experience vastly harder when I started over again. But the story is great, the art is beautiful, and your choices feel meaningful. So should the trilogy strike your fancy, I think you should give it a shot.

This is a review for the whole saga (all 3 games) since there's no meaningful difference in gameplay and it's one complete story.

Overall it was a very enjoyable experience and most of my complaints were minor things or personal nitpicks. The artwork was amazing and I loved all the character designs. The soundtrack is excellent (though not as amazing as the Tooth and Tail soundtrack from the same composer). I didn't experience any technical issues (aside from one major story choice when I tried to port over my save for the first game from the GOG edition). Voice acting was great, i just wish there had been more of it.

-Combat
Very solid system and no surprise they tried to make a board game out of it. I liked all of the class types and special abilities. The system itself I have no issue with, but over the course of the 30-40hr runtime for the full saga it does start to get old. The saga could have used some more unique combat objectives or timers or environments. Too many fights that are just 'kill the other team'. Even 3-way fights would've been a nice way to mix it up.
- Resource management
No real complaints here, it felt like I was playing oregon trail and dying just as badly at times. You go through periods of feast and famine and I felt like it was dynamic enough and didn't really need any deeper systems. The fact that your money is also your currency for levelling characters I'm still on the fence about. It added some really interesting/tough choices to the game but it would have also been fun to have more freedom to level my favorite heroes.
- Story & choices
I really enjoyed the storyline/narrative. I felt like I could really get into the role of the characters and stay immersed. The fact that you never know how a choice will affect the story or if the effects will be immediate or long-term adds a ton of tension and really made me focus on roleplay first and not optimization of rewards like many other games. This could be frustrating at times when you expected a certain outcome but your choice backfired horribly but I think it was the right way to handle decision making in the game.

总体来看痛并快乐着，主要是剧情驱动的游戏，这汉化真看不懂啊，强烈推荐查攻略，不过中文社区攻略也依托答辩。
作为老游戏可以埋了，打折也不建议入，云通关又没有那味，和在视频里看博物馆一个尿性。

[b]Поставлю мінус. Чому?[/b] Тому що коли виходила перша Banner Saga у 2014 році - це був оригінальний проєкт, зроблений на ентузіазмі й краудфандингу. Грошей бракувало на всьому, навіть Кіану Рівза довелося “позичити”, бо на зірок не вистачало. Але тоді це прощалося - було відчуття, що люди справді роблять щось нове і для гравців.

Але коли в тебе вже купа нагород, впізнаваність і два роки розробки інді-сиквелу за тими ж лекалами - випускати той самий “дірявий сир” виглядає щонайменше дивно. Особливо якщо граєш усі частини підряд - дрібні “недоробки”, які спочатку здавалися дрібницями, починають реально втомлювати.

[b]Слава[/b]. І так дивна валюта, якою і героїв качаєш, і продукти купуєш. Тут вона стала ще абсурднішою. Наприклад, можна відлупцювати селян, які не хочуть віддати свою їжу, бо помруть з голоду, - і отримати за це припаси та +10 до слави. Розробники могли б сказати, що гра “про важкий вибір”, але це відбувається на початку, коли провізії ще на тридцять днів наперед.

[b]Герої[/b]. Скільки три частини разом займають? Годин п’ятдесят? Півсотні годин із персонажами, до яких не прив’язуєшся - ні емоційно, ні як до цікавих бійців. Дякую грі, яка каже: “Оцей зрадник, цього вб’ють, цей сам піде.” Ну й гаразд. Пішли вони всі куди подалі. Навіщо взагалі шукати улюбленця, якщо кожен тимчасовий?

[b]Просторовий кретинізм[/b]. Він тут скрізь. Маємо детальну карту світу, але жодної людини, здатної порахувати, скільки припасів треба, щоб дістатися з міста до міста.

В [b]анімаціях[/b] показують, як кораблі майже падають із водоспаду - а за мить усе гаразд. Ми спілкуємося з картинками персонажів, які кліпають очима з однією й тією самою емоцією на всі випадки життя.

[b]З нововведень:[/b]
— тепер Рук схожий не на Кіану, а на Джона Віка.
— додали кентаврів, тож фокус із “міфів про вікінгів” трохи з’їхав у бік Disney’s Fantasia (1940).
— з’явилися бочки на полі бою! Якщо ви в першій частині питали “А де ж бочки?” - ось вони. Розставити самому не можна, і так, це буде коштом ваших припасів.
— тренер тепер може за день зробити зі 200 людей - 200 воїнів. На геймплей не впливає взагалі. Просто, щоб було.
— зробили нарешті адекватне керування на Steam Deck.

IGN влучно сказав: [b]“The Banner Saga заслуговує похвали лише за творчий підхід і музичний супровід, які ні на що не схожі.” [/b]

І я згоден. Бо все інше вже не витримує критики. Тут ти не розкриваєшся як стратег. Гра нагадує мультфільм, який іде по TV, поки ти гортаєш телефон.

The developers managed to create an excellent continuation of the original. From the very beginning, the game draws you in and keeps you curious about what will happen next in the story. The characters are wonderfully written and brilliantly portrayed. I especially enjoyed the journey of the main protagonist, Alette from the moment she took command, struggling with uncertainty and guilt after her father’s death, to her transformation into a confident and determined leader.

Twórcom udało się stworzyć doskonałą kontynuację pierwszej części. Gra od początku wciąga i z każdą chwilą byłem coraz bardziej zaciekawiony tym, co wydarzy się dalej w historii. Postacie zostały znakomicie napisane i świetnie przedstawione. Szczególnie podobała mi się podróż głównej bohaterki, Alette od momentu przejęcia dowodzenia, gdy widać było jej niepewność i poczucie winy po śmierci ojca, aż po przemianę w zdecydowaną i pewną siebie przywódczynię.

This game is everything a sequel must be. It kept what made the original great, and expanded on it. The gameplay is noticeably much more interesting this time around. There are many more abilities, characters, and enemy types. It's not balanced at all, though. There are some synergies that absolutely break the game. But it's still fun in the end.

La jugabilidad creo que le falta algo, no es la mejor pero tampoco es mala.

La historia trasciende y avanza con cada juego [b]SAGA[/b] de manera genial, si vas por uno vas por todos.

Currently playing BS1 on another platform. Have played all 3 already. Trying again thanks to rose-colored glasses. This review is for the whole series, and for the whole ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumpster of a dev studio, who released a game in 3 separate parts and still somehow released them all horribly buggy, unfinished, and full of every possible mistake, from bugs, to bad writing, to many typos, and of course, the constant Oregon Trail-ass decisions you have to make, which are "based on logic" but are often just totally arbitrary. Shouldn't have forded that river, idiot. The rest of your campaign is gonna suck. Too bad the most recent save you can use is from 1.5-2 hours ago.

BUGS ARE WELCOME AT STOIC. The forums are full of ignored bug reports. Its amazing to go back and see all the stuff people had to ask for. They didn't even release this game, which has foreign accents and language, with subtitles. There's no options menu. Bugs that might cost you hours of time were, from the very beginning, "known, but considered a low priority", and instead of fixing their rushed game, they rushed out 2 more games. Now, 7 or 8 years later, the bugs are still left as they are. They actually claimed last year that since it's been so long since release, it would be "risky" to update the game. I'd love for someone to explain how bug fixes are fine during the first 5 years post-release, but after that, they become "risky".

Of course, this review is the result of yet another of my countless hours... simply lost to the void of time, thanks to the developers at Stoic who didn't consider finishing their game to be worth the effort. A bug that could probably be fixed by any half-competent programmer in literal seconds, has survived 8 years and 2 sequels, to continue to plague players today. 2 more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hours of my time are gone just now, because Stoic doesn't believe in making a quality product. I cannot tell you how many hours of my life have been deleted thanks to the bugs in this series. I can't believe I forgot, and wanted to try playing again. I hope remember this time that these games simply are not worth playing, even after I've already bought them and after I've spent the time and frustration to learn how to navigate their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

General Stuff:
- The background visuals are what carry the game. They were made by a famous artist. The foreground visuals are pretty janky and LOW RES lol
- The combat is simple and repetitive, often tedious. They give you the option to fight for xp while camped out, but the process is so tedious I don't even want to. Sometimes I do it as a chore, while listening to a podcast.
- The overall story is solid compared to the rest of the game aspects, but in order to make it work they made huge compromises.
- The map is supposed to be your gauge for where you're going and how long it will take. Because they just jammed a story and map together, your caravan will randomly jump distances, so that the map is really no gauge at all, and those important decisions you have to make are as blind and arbitrary as Oregon Trail. Oops, this time you should have forded the river, idiot.
- Forced choices. Like a bad dungeon master. Important characters make bad choices for plot. Player choices in dialogue have drastic consequences and are usually based on 0 information. NPCs will betray you for literally no reason and with no warning. Often, two choices in the dialogue will be virtually the same thing, just worded slightly differently. Sometimes they have the same exact outcome, sometimes drastically different ones. These choices are supposed to be realistic, because life makes you make hard choices... except in real life, somebody is able to try words and then resort to action, instead of choosing one or the other. Irl, you can walk 15 ft over in that direction, see whats over there, and then make another decision, instead of being forced to make a guess and then sticking with the results for no reason at all. These "tough choices" were designed to be a realistic challenge but they're the most artificial thing about the game. Often, consequences feel very unfair, and not in a "life in unfair" way, a "♥♥♥♥ game" kind of way. To summarize, the player is given ♥♥♥♥ choice after ♥♥♥♥ choice, with little to no information provided, and very ambiguous dialogue options, and drastic consequences... all perfectly paired with the lovely, third-world quality, auto-save system that does not respect your free time.
- Lazy devs left out plot with major consequences to the player: Onef. The game makes it pretty obvious that he's going to betray you, and clearly it was building up to a point where you could do something about it, but apparently that minor detail was one of the things the devs decided not to care about so they could start pumping out the next game. So even though you've known he's been shifty the entire game, you can't do a single thing about it. Forget bad choices in this "choices matter" game, players don't even get a choice. This conversation starts, and you think, "Ok, I'll finally have a chance to confront him." and then he ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stabs you and your best friends, including the lover of your daughter, who you've been grooming as the future-main character specifically because of the relationship between the two of them. And then you open the saves and see the last save is from 2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hours ago. Then you look up this plot point, and see that it was based on a choice you made in the first 30 minutes of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game, and you remember that you made that choice because the "choices matter" game PRACTICALLY TOLD YOU that you HAD to make that choice or die, and based on all the plot points leading up to this, you can tell that obviously the writers were going to give you an opportunity at some point to prevent this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ forced plot point, but instead left the game unfinished and act like it's supposed to be that way, and you realize that your only options now are to learn how to edit the files to cheat yourself into a good game, or to restart the entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. Then, you write an angry review, regret your purchase, and resolve to not buy games from Stoic.

This is all just most of my complaints about the first game. I remember fuming in the past at the many bugs in BS2&3 and the many times it wasted my time previously. I remember clicking on a save file, and being sent to an entirely different save state. That's right, this game right here. A sequel. A sequel to an already buggy piece of ♥♥♥♥, was so badly made, that the save file system can't even correctly assign the right save state to the right file. Another example of the many bugs that DELETE HOURS OF YOUR TIME. Again, the combat is dull, so you don't even enjoy the game when you're forced to replay HOURS of it.

Thank god they rushed development and finished the game when they did. If it had come out the year after, it would not have come out the year before. Surely that's worth the games ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucking for all time going forward, and Stoic's reputation suffering for it.

Oh no... I just saw that these games were funded on kickstarter. Stoic was given a launch by their fans, and even after that, they don't respect their customers enough to fix simple game-breaking bugs. Yep, definitely ignoring any games from this studio going forward. So unfortunate. A great project, rushed, compromised, and forever a waste. A waste of all that kickstarter money. A waste of the developers' time. A waste of time and money for me, and certainly many other players who bought into this series after seeing the beautiful background art, which again, has nothing to do with the developers. What an incredible shame. If you're gonna do something, do it right. If you're gonna buy a game, don't buy this one.

Помня свою главную ошибку при перепрохождении первой части перед сиквелом, я не стал ее повторять и запустил БС2 сразу на легкой легкости. И судя по всему, сделал правильно, потому что мысленно я отметил много моментов, от которых бы у меня полыхало. Но это так, прелюдия.

Сиквел берет свое начало сразу после событий оригинальной игры. Здесь предлагается импортировать сохранения первой части, чего я сделать не смог, а потому вручную выбрал концовку с выжившим Руком, что у меня и вышло в оригинале. И Рук продолжает свое шествие с караваном, пытаясь убежать и от драгов, и от загадочной Тьмы, которая пожирает все на своем пути. В этот раз однако игра вводит второго протагониста, Больверка, могучего варла, который со своим отрядом наемников выполняет заказ валки по доставке тела побежденного сундра в Совет ткачей. Вообще сюжет в сиквеле получился гораздо более насыщенным, с нагромождениями новых деталей лора, но при этом следить за историей все равно интересно.

По-прежнему в игре хватает развилок, и по-прежнему они не всегда очевидны. То есть ролевая составляющая работает так, что какое-то твое решение повлияет на события когда-то потом, и не всегда понятно, какой из выбранных тобой вариантов ответа повлияет на что-то кардинально, а какой просто является выбором ради выбора. Но пожалуй я не назову это недостатком, это достаточно интересный опыт.

Геймплейно же ничего кардинально не изменилось. Появились новые бойцы с новыми способностями, как и прежде какие-то более полезные и универсальные, а какие-то менее, но в сухом остатке это все та же Баннер Сага. Не могу сказать, что я в восторге от игрового процесса (как и в случае с первой игрой), хотя я люблю пошаговые тактички, но не в этом случае. Так что для меня это просто ок, терпимо.

В целом БС2 мне понравилась в большей степени развитием истории. Если первая часть была любопытна и какими-то своими механиками, то здесь, за неимением критически важных новшеств, интерес вызывал только сюжет. Посмотрим, чем все закончится в триквеле.

Excelente historia! Buena adición de personajes, enemigos, mecánicas y lore.

Sigue siendo visualmente hermoso aunque siento que la calidad de los detalles de los personajes decae un poco en comparación a la primera... y la traducción en español tiende a tratar a Alette como hombre (Rook, por defecto).

Aunque se siente algo corto, es un juego igualmente recomendable!

Its a great sequel which put the more focus on the story aspect of the game, with great sucess I might add since it has some intriguing twists. Combat is the same puzzel combat which I like, but with a few new heroes and enemies tossed into the mix.

When people talk about games with choices that mattered or isometric strategic combat that rocks, this is the game that I think of and compare others too. One of the best sagas and while not as strong as the first one and with some conflicts in its story and decisions, its still an amazing game that had me on the edge.
