telltale texas hold'em walked so that Poker Night at The Inventory could run.
Played about an hour experience where voicelines of the characters would loop already. But to be fair, this isn't that half bad. If you are a fan of TellTale's old entry before Poker Night at the Inventory and Poker Night 2 then you pretty much can recognize how the gameplay feels. In this one though it's pretty one dimensional and linear how things are executed but not that terrible regardless, game proceeds very fast and ends fast depending the amount of money you hold from the rest. The voice acting is there but shame some of them sound a bit off being filtered out badly or cut in too soon. Same can be said how Theodore's VA sometimes doesn't have his radical accent but that's all there is to the acting. The music is very simplistic but fits. The models are... there? You can see the rough edges sticking out but this is a very old installment so it's whatever.
There's really no rewards and nothing about it than having dry humor with the four random cast of folks sitting in the table. It does have stereotype for each of them just still feels very not subtle and good enough to give high praise. Although I will compliment for starters this is a good Poker game where you could learn a thing or two. For me Telltale Texas Hold'Em is a test how things can be achieved before rolling to a bigger titles in their Poker entries. So it still deserves some applause for what it is.
Unironically a solid game for the price. Could probably run this on a potato, not even a potato pc, literally just a potato. Its pretty easy if you are any good at poker, and the gameplay can be a little janky. But its a really simple functional texas hold'em game with kind of interesting characters, worth giving a shot if you enjoy poker. Also a great tab-in game.

It's the kind of game your grandparents would have on their Windows 7 PC that you tried to play once and got your ass kicked because you were a dumb seven year old
It's fun for a round or two, but after that, you'll never touch it again. Unless you really have a thing for Janky Old PC Games, definitely skip this.
Also, important note: if you want to play the game, you gotta go into the files and delete the file named "port". Do not enable full-screen either.
Honestly, this is still a solid Poker simulator while also being an interesting history piece regarding TellTales early years and as the predecessor to the Poker Night at the Inventory series. Which is a little funny as of the three Telltale Poker sim games, this is the only one they still hold the rights to as the other two are buried under licencing agreements.
Gameplay and Mehanics:
If you know how to play Poker, this won't be a hard game to jump into. If you don't, the game does have tutrials, and the I.A id VERY forgiving so this isn't a bad place to learn the game. Speaking of the I.A, the characters around the table seem to have their own playstyle and tells. The Grandma will seemingly only bet high if she has something to play while Boris will go on in seemingly at random and will often be the first to bust out. Theodore seems to be the best player of the group and will fold often, while Harry seems to be the most balanced in terms of his patterns. That being said all the players will at times bet high despite not seeing the flop. I busted out two players just by matching their all in bets before the flop and just winning due to luck? I also never lost with more than a three of a kind and during my first playthrough the A.I players seem to only get more than a pair twice on the reveal. I watched gameplay from Youtube creators and this seems to be consistent. This was meant as a tech demo afterall so it wouldn't make sense for the game to be too hard. As it stands, it's an easy poker game to kill forty-sixty minutes playing.
Characters and setting.
The game is set in what could be called a generic broadcasted Poker setting. The announcer is also kind of plain but fits the setting. The other four characters playing against "The Player: are mainly one note archetypes, but that doesn't make them not entertaining. Grandma is the sweet old lady that hits on being a little crazy... Like when she talks to her chips and states that she needs to "sharpen her knifes" after busting out. Theo is a dude bro that makes movie references and who is the most annoying at the table yet usually LAST TO THE END! Boris is a shady bald guy who hints that he got the money for the tournament from, shady sources. Harry is a Poker Vet? an old man who is easily set off? he's the hardest to read which makes sense as his "I'm better than you" personality fits well at a Poker table without the need to flush him out more.
Conclusion:
The game is old but isn't as jank as some of the other reviews seem to note. the game is less than two bucks and only took me forty minutes to get through. I'd say it's worth playing through once as if you're like me and have never played the Poker Night at the Inventory series, the first PNI game was just re added to steam. So right now seems like the best time to play Telltale Texas Hold 'Em before jumping into the first Poker night game.
It's a bit dated, sure, but it is also a bit of a classic. The banter is pretty fun, and even if you lose you can still watch the rest of the tournament and root for your favorite players. Given how cheap this game is even before discount, I'd say it is well worth a purchase. So, take my advice, and just go all in!

La premisa es simple, hay 5 jugadores en un torneo de póker que consta de vos y 4 rivales, cada uno con su personalidad, forma de jugar y comentarios divertidos para cada mano.
Cada participante empieza con un pozo de dinero, y al terminarse los fondos, este queda eliminado de la partida.
Son torneos relativamente cortos, en menos de 20 minutos pude ganar, pero todo depende de tu habilidad de mentir o de jugar al póker.
Si bien es más un título experimental, hoy en día es un juego de culto y los primeros pasos de una compañía que sacaría excelentes títulos narrativos.
Para un par de minutitos tranqui es ideal.

If you don't have friends to play with but still wanna play some poker you go and look for a game to play on your computer, but the problem is that there is nothing really making them all that different from each other and that's where this game stands out. It's not revolutionary, it's not pretty, but it has character that is very rare to see in a game like this and the game knows it advertising itself as "Poker with Personality". The dialogue and banter of Harry, Boris, Theodore and Grandma Shaky will keep you playing even after you win just to hear more of it and that should be your main reason for playing this game because if you play it competitively you WILL break your monitor from almost winning the tournament and then Ted taking the whole ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pot while laughing in your face.

Lots of voicelines for a small game like this, definitely worth my time. They shouldnt have added the disabling dialogues option because thats what one should play for! Character types and play-styles match well. This was the best texas hold ‘em game I've ever played against only bots without real betting.

For a game so old, Telltale Texas Hold'Em is still quite a good game. The game is simple, you are just playing Texas Hold'Em with 4 other people. Though the concept isn't unique, the personalities of each character bring a lot to the table, keeping the game quite interesting. You learn quirks about each character over time, such as Tedd being an absolute menace and grandma always folding.
Honestly, I wish they made a remastered version of this that include other things like more dialogue and achievements (similar to Poker Night games). I would definitely recommend giving this game a shot.
Maybe it isn't the most sophisticated poker game out there but it is a product of its time and for that time this was a pretty solid poker game. The gameplay does quickly become predictable and constantly raising does put more pressure on the AI than it should however the dialogue still holds up if you like something dated, cheeky and full of references. Plus the price is justified but I would hold off until it's on sale if you wanna pinch a penny.

its a great time for the classic poker sim that it is. there was no teddy kgb but he was there in spirit and these robots do not enjoy a gamble and prefer to be strung along into betting more instead of calling a large bet.
It’s poker, technically, but only in the same way instant ramen is cuisine. The characters look like rejected Sims 2 NPCs, the jokes land about as often as a two seven off suit, and the AI cheats with the subtlety of a cartoon villain. You’ll spend more time listening to bad one liners than playing actual hands. Boris has a strong jawline though.
My kids are all-in on welfare, thank you Telltale Poker!

This is an excellent game for the time it was made. The dialogue, for example, doesn't seem like it was made that long ago (20 years ago!!!!). The AI is awesome, the game is fun. I prefer playing w/ real people, but the computer is a good old fashioned telecast poker game! Excellent testing to Telltales game making, apparently. I would rather play "online" poker, I suppose, but for less than a dollar, it is definitely worth the price for the computerized character alone! Hehe.

Not exactly a bad game but you'd have to go out of your way to ♥♥♥♥ up poker.
Not very beginner-friendly, especially with the dialogue system making things even more confusing. But if you kinda know what you’re doing, it then feels way too easy.
It's easy to kill'em all. The bots’ logic is simple, got no learning system.
Just throw in a big raise and they’ll fold every time like clockwork. And they go all-in for no reason.

It seemed like a fundamental type of poker from Telltale Games before they decided to create a more complete version in Poker Night years later.
Still, it's a bit of fun playing it while listening to what the AI has to say.
A no frills poker game that plays Texas Hold'em reliably with enough effort in the 4 NPC personalities to keep you entertained for your poker fix. This is a pre-cursor to the (as of this review) delisted versions using game and pop culture personalities instead of these original ones. The game is from 2005 and looks like it, but it runs well on the steam deck.

Definitely worth that - If I hadn't already paid for it I would pay another dollar; Fair poker, cheesy characters (Telltale charm). This is good texas hold'em with interesting characters that tire if you play too long... Although come back a year or two later and It's a fun ride. Recommended at $1.
The production values are marginal at best but it's a full fledged game of poker with four low poly adversaries. For 40 megs and fifty cents... it'll do in lieu of a real pot and pals to fight for it.

It's a damn tragedy that Poker Night 1 and 2 are now delisted, and this crap is the only Telltale poker game you can purchase. Barely any funny conversations, animations are stiff as ♥♥♥♥, atmosphere is horrible. I get that this was Telltale's first game and this was a crucial stepping stone for them to later achieve greatness, but it's really not worth it even for less than a quid.

First - It's a buck! What do you expect? It's not deep. It's not flashy. It's not complex. It's a Texas Hold'em game with four quirky cartoon caricatures.
And honestly, it's a pretty good poker game in general. I could be wrong, but I even think each character has their own play style. They do bet on garbage quite often, but that just makes it harder to tell when they do have something. Also, the table talk (which you can shut off once you've heard it all) is actually pretty funny at times. For the price, you can't go wrong really - especially given the other single player poker games out there that simply exist to trap you in microtransaction hell.
I think the bad reviews are just sour grapes because Telltale made better poker games later and those are no longer available, but for some reason this one is. A review should be based on the game at hand, not the games that you wish were available! That's not really fair to this game.
Bottom line, you'll get your money's worth.
This game serves as a tech demo for Telltales THEN newest engine, Telltale Tool. It has its flaws, like looking old, low poly horribly modelled characters, etc. But these characters have personality and their own little stories to share. Though its not the GREATEST Texas Hold'em game out there, it was certainly the first for Telltale because If not for this, we wouldn't have had Poker Night 1 and 2.
If you want to learn Texas Hold' em, this is certainly not the best place but you do get an idea on where to start OR if you are someone looking for simple poker, then I suppose this is for you.
its a 2005 test to see if telltale could animate speech and facial animations. its also an extremely fun poker game with many funny quips. (also the ai can bluff and fake bluff)

With Poker Night at the Inventory coming back to Steam, I think it's best you just buy that instead of this. You'll not only get a much better Poker Experience, but you'll also get Items for TF2 by playing it. This just doesn't give you much in return for playing. If you win a tournament or lose, you just start another one up and gain/lose nothing.
Sure, this is very cheap and can run on basically everything, (I'm pretty sure Windows 98 could run this) but it's way more dull and not nearly as entertaining. And god help you when you start a game because the AI in this is Brutal.
It's definitely fun to play! I would recommend this game, and I liked how the game informed me how to play.
I'm gonna be completly honest and say that this game actually taught me how to properly play Texas Hold 'Em. It does what it says on the tin, I'd say it's definitely a good and cheap game if you just want to play some poker against bots.
Not much else to add, other than it was TellTale's first title - made and released as a proof of concept for digital distribution of games (as early as 2005!).
