Used to love this back on the PS Vita and I still love it now.

The game is far from perfect and it hasn't aged as well as it could've considering it was pretty clunky even for the time it came out but I don't think any other game comes to close to providing the MMO-like experience that this game provides.
There are random player NPCs that can be interacted and recruited. You see these same player NPCs wandering around in the town and in the open areas, fighting packs of mobs and bosses.
You have a rather large skill tree that encourages you to level up different weapons in order to obtain certain skills that can be used regardless of what you got equipped, giving you the type of freedom to build your character the way you want, form the party with the characters you want and live YOUR experience in the SAO universe.

That comes with a caveat, however.

Much like other games in the SAO gameverse, you're stuck playing as Kirito. However, this game does give you the ability to customize the avatar to your liking and you're not stuck dual wielding swords. Unfortunately, this leaves you in a semi-Kirito state where the game still treats you as Kirito (with certain cutscenes still having Kirito's VA regardless of the voice you picked, something that can be disabled though) and that can be somewhat jarring but luckily, these moments aren't THAT often or noticeable.

The gameplay has the right amount of depth thanks to the variety of skills at your disposal and ways to improve your stats by wearing different equipment. For the most part, you'll be button mashing the basic attack button and occasionally sprinkling in sword skills and chaining them together.
Companion AI is not the greatest but you can give out orders to make them a little bit more functional, as well as compliment them when they act a certain way, allowing you to customize their play style to your liking.

Overall, it's just a fun time. It's not the best game ever nor is it absolute trash. It's just good old fun time killing mobs, doing fetch quests and grinding for levels.
Many say that a SAO-based MMO should be made but I disagree. I think they should take the foundation of this game, refine it and expand it, providing a far more enjoyable single-player / co-op experience.

Directamente el juego esta mal escalado, no hay una motivacion directa para farmear cofres o boss para ciertos item ya que te puede caer la misma arma en una zona de nivel 5 que en una de nivel 80... el dropeo de los item para subir las armas es simplemente pesimo ya que nisiquiera es en mapas especificos puede ser cualquiera pero en zonas de retos pero aveces no cae ni uno y necesitas 50 y eso solo en los primeros niveles luego se pone peor... realmente solo se pone medio interesante luego de tener todo asi que quizas luego de 120horas para lograr tenerlo pero no pienso llegar hasta alli... por lo que entiendo que me deja apreciar el juego y la dificultad del daño recibido de los enemigos solo varia al tener por margen de nivel o ser mas alto pero en numeros propios que aumenten para decir que estas haciendo mas eso no existe por lo menos en los primeros 80 niveles

Not the best SAO, but it's interesting, when you're going through storyline. Even I've completed just basic story without dlc, it was interesting, but "not important" to complete. It's good, if you want to know about characters appeared in this SAO, about Premiere, cause she appears in next parts.
Dlc's has more content with characters, but I've little bored. Maybe cause "old, not so good" gameplay and controls.
It's hard to complete on 100% definitely, cause there's a lot of missable achievements, like "last hit" in dlc's dungeons, get 100% gallery. This is SAO, where you can sit more thatn 100-300 hours for 100%. I think it will be interesting to return here after completing other SAO's next after this.

Piccolo alert: Preparatevi a lunghe conversazioni tra i personaggi, minigame per aumentare "l'amicizia" con i vostri compagni e a tanto....tanto....e ridico tanto farming. Il gioco dispone anche di una modalità multiplayer in cui i giocatori possono sconfiggere boss della storia o farmare insieme. Se cercate gente con cui giocarci mandate la richiesta amico :D

刀剑粉丝最应该玩的一作，相比夺命，彼岸，异绊，这种独立篇章，这算是把整个SAO（无限瞬间-虚空断章-虚空幻界）讲最完整的两部曲了，为啥是两部因为断章是无限瞬间的重置版，多了个虚空区，但恰巧的如果你玩到这一作的千层塔的核心区就可以发现和虚空断章的核心区大同小异算是一点小惊喜了，并且本座技能延续了SAO剑技的同时又增加了很多，同时可以发现遗憾的地方是这一作是有虚空区这个概念的，但是不知为何阉割了，因为可以从千层塔的桐人技能来看，女帝斩必须打过剑之女帝可以拿，也就说本来这一作应该还有一个虚空区的联动DLC包括每个武器的失传技能。这一作剧情很完整，看的很舒服，但最大的问题也在这，太完整以至于小支线对话多的自己像在玩galgame一样，全配音是亮点。但由于定位不同，这一作风格很像老网游，刷刷刷的时间很多，建议国区玩家用一点修改以便于获得良好的体验。人物虽然是立绘对话，但是很精致，比起彼岸这种我直接裂开。总之这一作是部可以当作完整小说来阅读的游戏，里面包含了SAO的艾恩葛郎特出现的起源同时有很多和前作联动的小彩蛋，建议先把虚空断章游玩以后再来游玩本作，这样你就可以收获到更多的惊喜

当年用手柄还能正常玩，近些天想重来全成就发现手柄失效了，只能使用手柄模拟键盘映射，体验感直接降了一大截，而且很多手柄的操作是映射无法代替的

If you like SAO and enjoy long JRPGs, Hollow Realization feels like an arranged marriage that somehow… works better than expected.

✅ Pros

- Solid combat system: real-time, fun, and actually rewards you for learning mechanics (not just button mashing like your keyboard owes you money).

- A LOT of content: long main story, all DLCs included, big maps… this game eats your free time for breakfast.

- Fanservice done right: tons of character interactions, events, and that classic SAO vibe fans are here for.

- Good customization: skills, gear, and builds give you freedom to play your way.

❌ Cons

- Story pacing can be rough: some dialogues feel like emotional side quests you didn’t accept.

- Party AI is… special: sometimes helpful, sometimes just there for moral support.

- Outdated visuals: not ugly, but definitely stuck in the past.

- Confusing early game: the tutorial explains things… just not very well.

🎯 Final Thoughts

If you’re a Sword Art Online fan, you’ll feel right at home (or trapped there for dozens of hours).
If you’re not, you’ll still find a solid JRPG, with satisfying combat, deep systems, and enough content to make your backlog cry.

I have... mixed feeling about this game...
Just like every other SAO games, the Story is whatever, there's a lot of harem (This is either a + or - depending on the person but for me, it's a - ) the only saving grace of it is the battle system

Cutscene are unskipable, and there's this one time where a bathscene came out of nowhere and that caught me really off guard, I did NOT want to see that.

Gameplay is quite decent, I really like the enviorment too, it honestly looks quite beautiful.
Compared to Hollow Fragment, this one feels much more faster and exciting. Parrying have a smaller window here compared to HF which took a while to get used to. Basically HF: Feels more satisfying to play, HR: feels more exciting to play

character customization have a slight improvement, Gender choice actually affect your model instead of just standing poses, I really like that there's no gender locked Hairstyle/Face/Voice, but the selection itself is quite limiting

Currently I had just finished the first Area, and every Armor that I've seen looks really similar to one another, and all of them look uninteresting

Played this game on Switch and even beat the game on the Switch and it was an awesome experience. This version of the game is a joke. Controls on keyboard work fine and the game is an entertaining experience if you can get past the frustrating tutorial.

The source of this negative review is that the game is nigh unplayable on PC with how often it crashes or just straight-up stops working on loading screens if you load in town. Don't know if this is an issue with having a decent PC like how some other people have reported in their reviews or what, but unless there's a fix for this... Get the console version of Hollow Realization instead. It's a far better experience on there. Since getting a better PC than what I had previously, this game seems to just crash on loading screens randomly.

A more apt title for the PC version would be Not Responding Online: Crashing Realization.

Die Steuerung ist grausig und das Spiel wirkt sehr unfertig. Bei der Charaktererstellung kann man eine Stimme wählen aber nicht anhören was dazu führt das man eine Transe spielt. Der Fenstermodus zeigt trotz richtiger Auflösung die hälfte nicht an. War mir nicht mehr wehrt weiter zu spielen

Very bad port of the game.
the video settings are a mess. it's very hard to get 1440p.
the game crashes for no reason.
the controller dosent work. you need to force the usage of steam controller API.
Overall bad port.
i played 10min and i have no clue what to do. no mini map. no indications to what to do NOTHING. so after moving 5min in the town i turned off the game.

The keyboard controls suck. For some reason, there is an attack bound to the M1 but the mouse itself does not control the camera, the camera has to be controlled with IJKL. I make a female character, pick a female voice and during cutscenes, the voice of Kirito plays over my female character.

The game doesn't even register inputs from my controller. I saw players mention launching the game in Big Picture mode but nah. I bought that game years ago, I decide to finally come around to playing it and that's what I have to deal with. It's not a Bandai Namco game for nothing! I've bought and refunded several Bandai Namco games because they all systematically sucked. Too bad it took me years to try this one, I can't refund it now. But I have thankfully learned my lesson and never buy Bandai Namco games anymore😁

Do not buy this game, or atleast do not buy the PC port of this game if you don't have to.

I despite my mere 19hrs of playtime on steam I have several hundred hours on my PS4 saves of this game. It is significantly better in PS4. What to expect from the PC port of the game: extreme and unexplainable performance issues going into various areas with FPS dropping as much as several hundred frames down to 15-20 FPS even on beefy hardware. When I say unexplainable I mean it, I've dug around in the game's settings to no success and have dug around in my own PC's settings and nothing has changed the poor performance. Various annoying but not game breaking bugs exist and will never be fixed. If you want to play this multiplayer with your friends don't even think about it, the netcode and what I presume to be peer to peer connection simply cannot handle it and will lag tremendously.

Otherwise outside of the PC port the game is of mediocre quality and really depends on your tolerance towards it. I personally don't mind it but several of my friends refuse to play it because of its quality as a game as a whole. It's a Kirito simulator, the story is fine as its the main attraction of the game. The art looks nice and there's plenty of interactions with the various characters so you can enjoy time with your favorite if you want to. The gameplay loop is essentially proc 1,000 skills then spam sword skills so very much on the side of hack and slash. It's incredibly easy. Like defeating a boss that's more than twice your level is just a matter of how many sword skills your throw at it.

35-180+ hours to complete, SAO: Hollow Realization is an almost fully voiced singleplayer game that mimics the anime’s VRMMORPG skill trees, weapon logistics (weapon skills, weapon EXP, secret skills learned via specific actions, etc…) , raid boss mechanics, party synchronization, item usage, and social dynamics more than any other previous title before it. Except this game takes place in an alternate world where, while exploring the city, your party meets Premiere – an obviously important looking NPC with a broken questline. While initially, Premiere’s glitched quest chain was something fun to poke at during the downtime of clearing floors, it quickly gains priority as the NPC is so oddly lifelike and her questline has some startling Implications that interact more with the world than anyone could have ever realized.

I enjoyed this game, and I enjoyed it in a unique way that no other game has interacted with me before, which feels odd to say. For all intents and purposes, this game is a single player MMORPG that does its absolute BEST to make you feel like you are genuinely in a game with other real-life people, while keeping you as its protagonist. The social dynamics are honestly kind of insane, and I can only think of why the game is so in-depth in this regard is because the developer team loved SAO dearly, not because it was easy to implement, otherwise other games would have tried this before. You can talk and raise social interactions with every single NPC, including shopkeepers. You can add pretty much ANYONE to your party, you can, if you wanted to, turn this entire game into a dating sim with every npc in it. You can sit down in all the chairs, eat and order food at cafes, go on dates, hold hands, physically pick literally anyone up if they like your company enough, sit on random benches, whatever. This game is a gigantic sandbox with what must be over eighty hours of voiced dialogue in this regard, and I haven’t even gotten into how your social standing can influence combat, or gotten into how complicated the combat system is.

There is a four-party system and combat is pretty lively. There is a huge variety of enemies and enemy types, you gain skills based on what weapons you are using and those skills have their own EXP of a sort that improves through use, unlocking more skills connected to them in the skill tree and you can do specific actions to gain hidden skills, like dual wielding. There are passive abilities as well, and even after the main storyline is done there is a lot of post-game content where difficulty can ramp up fairly quickly giving you a lot of things to work towards. Switch skills are in team play, meaning you chain skills with your party members to interrupt boss attacks to extend combo windows and keep enemies staggered for long periods. Fighting with your party members increases your familiarity with them, you can assign roles, and during large raids, merge with other NPC parties to coordinate attacks or signaling everyone to Back Off/Defend when a raid boss does an AOE or something. There was one feature I particularly disliked – you can’t charge your party members equipment unless you reached affection level 4 or 5, which becomes a huge pain when their stats are garbage and they won’t accept something better regardless of their personal level.

Overall, I had a fantastic time playing SAO, though I don’t suggest trying to 100% it. The DLC admittedly wasn’t as good as the main storyline and I feel like post-game overstays its welcome by about 50-70 hours if you’re trying to do everything available to you. I wish there was more weapon crafting in the game, though the enchanting system is pretty solid. If you like SAO and want to immerse yourself in a long game, Hollow Realization is absolutely the way to go about that; there are a hundred maps, thousands of characters, a weather and day-night system, numerous voiced lines of dialogue wrapped in a fun world that’s rewarding to explore and entertaining to do so. It’s not GOTY material, but it’s absolutely worth playing if you enjoy the SAO series or spending multiple hours in huge fantasy world MMO’s.

А так пойдёт, много гринда, хорошая сюжетка линия и куча фан-сервиса. Иногда даже слишком много. Хотелось бы чтобы с Кляйном и Эгилем было больше контента, а то только все с этими вумен, а с настоящими мужиками мало интерактивчика. Точно лучше Re: Hollow Fragment(локациями и боёвкой, сюжет и сайд ивенты у обоих игр хорошие).

首先说在最前：本游的游戏体验奇差无比，尤其对于键鼠玩家，17h的键鼠打下来，首先是叫你转动的灵敏度极低，只能靠快速回正跑图，到了中后期开始不能无脑技能刷怪的时候你就绝对会气的想要砸键盘，至于手柄也没好到哪去，相对于键鼠确实方便一些，但也仅限一些了，更少的键位带来的是及其压缩的操作手感，别的不说，键鼠的v键小地图手柄直接删掉，并且跳跃时靠近怪物必定卡在半空（目前的解决办法是脱一件装备再穿上，不清楚原理，并且，本游限制20核的处理器，电脑玩家游玩需要更改相关设置！

游戏性方面，游戏充斥着大量的跑图元素，并且在指引方面稀烂，不认真看每一段剧情就极有可能在某段跑图过程中疑惑自己的目的地为什么呢需要前置条件开启并且根本不知道去哪开，建议根据攻略食用最佳

总结：纯粹粉丝向游戏，非史低勿入。

从夺命凶弹到这一部，给人的感觉都很奇怪。制作组给人一种“我设计了不少的怪物和技能，所以我要发力了”的想法，然后你玩了半小时后猛然发现他们真的有想法，但是没有付诸实践。

This game sat in my library for quite some time after purchase, more because I got it on sale at the time, among other titles, and I played the others first. So, it's outdated as of this writing, and that plays a big factor in this review.
I watched the Sword Art Online series, and that's what drew me to this game. Graphically, in a way, it's a good representation of the anime. Storytelling wise, it's more of a bookend to a whole collection of anime series. And it doesn't hold true to the mechanics described in the original anime, as it's trying to hold too true to the other animes and mangas, while selling itself as the functional inheritor of the game world of the Sword Art Online anime series itself. And that doesn't work because they didn't respect the pacing, the dialog style, or the mechanical aspects of that anime.
The PC port might work on Windows. I'm trying it from Linux and can't get controller support working. So I won't speak to controller function in Windows. Linux has a hard time getting Proton to work, and it requires an outdated version of Proton to even think about launching correctly. Then, because of the lack of controller support in that version, I'm dealing with keyboard and mouse controls. And, I'll be honest, Final Fantasy 1 on the NES in the 1980's had literally better controls than this game, because I'm doing a nostalgic playthrough of that game alongside this one. I end up screaming at this game for the keyboard control options given how clunky they are as a whole. Yes, I could remap them. But they've got so many controls, so many combinations of controls, so many layered menues bound to combination hotkeys, and so little explanation what any of their systems mean that I could likely spend the next six months trying to figure out what all of it does and remapping the controls. So, that's the first two problems: It's cluttered and it doesn't follow the anime that it's trying to inherit.
Then there's the dialog / tutorials. Because of all those layered systems, you're going to easily spend the first three hours of gameplay trying to read through entirely cryptic tutorials that don't actually explain how to accomplish any of the things they're saying you need to learn. Good luck with that.
And when you're not in a tutorial, you're in an endless collection of anime harem girl popups as the hero (male or female), is every girl's favorite person as they flirt their way through literally every interaction. It's endless. It's meaningless. It says nothing about the game. And if you haven't watched all the animes released before this game was released, I 100% guarantee you're going to be lost on what the story is beyond the most basic, elementary school child level. Which is pretty darn weird for a very thinly veiled harem game that's also functionally lacking in meaningful adult themes.
Every aspect of the world, including all NPC levels who you'll get to interact with in the first six hours of game play scale with your party's level. Try to go solo, like Kirito does in the anime, everything you can fight scales down so you can't get experience. Go in a group, everyone levels with you and does random things you don't get direct control of, and you can't affect your party's equipment unless I'm missing some huge feature of the game. You eventually can lightly 'nudge' the NPC choices toward a pattern of behavior through constant mid-combat flattery that takes you away from your character's controls, but that's about it on keyboard controls.
Then there's the crazy targeting system. Do you like a game that doesn't give you an explicit heading, but every last melee action that you can choose is likely to thrust you wildly into a massive over-swing and step forward in that random direction you're facing? Great, this is the game for you. You're going to hit air a good 50% of the time even once you're used to the keyboard controls, they're really that bad.
The city they're showing in the game doesn't even come close to the playable environment of that city in the game. It's probably worse than the Neverwinter MMO in that respect, but even more glaring just how obvious they made it. There are four zones, each about half a city block in size or less, in a city represented as taking up many, many square miles in the cutscenes. And you can enter exactly one building in that city in the early stages of the game. Now, that might change after those first six hours... but...
And then there's the character selection and customization options at the start of the game. You want to play Kirito from the anime? Great. You want a guy who looks nothing like Kirito, has different hair, uses a different weapon, has a different voice? Okay, but every time anyone in those endless dialogs is talking to you, it's all of Kirito's experiences and his voice you're going to hear as 'you' answer all the cute harem girls trying to hit on you and be super cute. And if you choose a female avatar? Yep, you're still Kirito, speaking with Kirito's voice, and all the cute harem girls trying to hit on you are doing the same thing. So... I ask you, is that customization of your character, or a token effort for graphical control?
The loot system is baffling. You're tasked with going out into the field to gather components, and your looting system fills up before you even exit one area on the quests you're on. Not for stack size, but just the sheer quantity of random things you're given as you try to do your quests. And don't even get me started on having the whole game scale to your party's level but the merchants don't ever sell new gear...
Overall, if you were looking for a game that represents Sword Art Online and what you might have liked about the anime and the mechanics? This isn't it. If you were looking for a deep and rewarding RPG experience and you have a lot of patience? Maybe. I don't. If you were looking for something with tight controls? I definitely can't recommend it on Linux. But if you were looking for a romance simulator in which two thirds of a game world populace of dozens of NPCs are cute anime waifus in outfits that never change, and a system to flirt your way into manipulating them to fight well for you? Excellent. You just found your gold mine, sir. Good luck with that.

No he visto SAO, el juego es entrenido sobretodo al principio despues en las partes finales se vuelve un poco repetitivo y monótono sobretodo por que la dificultad es practicamente nula haciendo todo demasiado facil,es un juego extremadamente casual. Lo mas divertido es conseguir las mejores cosas para equiparte y la sensacion de estar jugando online que esta bien lograda, ademas de que el combate es rápido y se siente fluido. La historia es lo suficientemente interesante como para mantenerte jugando aun que no es la gran cosa.

No es un mal juego si tenes en cuenta que es algo mas para jugar de manera casual, aun que hubiese estado bien un poco mas dificultad sobretodo en las partes finales. Supongo que si te gusta SAO el juego puede ser todavia mas disfrutable, recomiendo comprarlo solamente cuando esta de oferta que creo que es lo que realmente vale.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization Deluxe Edition is an ambitious action RPG that attempts to recreate the feeling of living inside a fictional MMORPG, and for fans of the anime, it succeeds in many emotional and nostalgic ways. From the very beginning, it throws players back into the world of Sword Art Online, this time within a new virtual setting known as Ainground—a reconstruction of Aincrad, but not the same. The plot is set after the events of the first arc in the anime, imagining a scenario where the virtual world never fully collapsed and was instead rebuilt. You’re given the opportunity to create your own custom character, altering everything from gender and voice to facial features and clothing. However, this level of customization quickly reveals its limitations when your character, regardless of appearance, is referred to as Kirito throughout the story. This creates a strange dissonance between the identity you build for yourself and the narrative the game insists upon. You're not truly role-playing as your own character—you’re role-playing as Kirito wearing a mask.

Gameplay-wise, the title finds its stride in its deep and satisfying combat system. At first, battles may seem simple, with basic hack-and-slash mechanics, but as the game progresses, the systems open up in complex and rewarding ways. You’re encouraged to master timing, positioning, and combo chaining, as well as participate in the “Switch” mechanic, a key system where you and your AI teammates chain attacks together for increased damage and effects. Battles against large enemies or field bosses become chaotic but thrilling, with bursts of particle effects and urgent calls to coordinate with allies. You’re not just button mashing—you’re managing cooldowns, issuing commands, avoiding AoE zones, and timing skills with precision. While the AI can be inconsistent, it’s usually competent enough to not feel like dead weight, and you can recruit dozens of characters as your teammates, many of whom have unique dialogue, skill trees, and relationship paths.

Exploration is another central pillar of the experience. The world of Ainground is vast, segmented into interconnected zones that house everything from roaming monsters to hidden treasure and environmental lore. While it doesn’t match the open-world freedom of Western RPGs, it does capture the feeling of traversing a living, breathing MMO world. Zones change with time of day, enemies vary by region, and there’s a steady drip of new quests and systems that reward continued exploration. Unfortunately, the game’s interface is dense and not especially user-friendly. There’s a lack of adequate tutorials to explain mechanics like skill synthesis, affection systems, and equipment crafting. Many players will find themselves digging through menus or online guides to understand how to effectively use the systems in place. This learning curve can be frustrating and may deter newcomers or casual players from fully appreciating the complexity under the surface.

Visually, Hollow Realization manages to look vibrant and expressive, despite being built on aging hardware. Character models are crisp and animations, while sometimes stiff, do a decent job of capturing the style of the anime. Towns bustle with NPCs, quests, and shops, while outdoor environments are diverse enough to keep you from feeling like you’re running through the same terrain repeatedly. However, performance is inconsistent. On PC, the game runs well with mid-range to high-end specs, though occasional framerate dips occur during large battles or in crowded areas. One of the most unique elements is the social aspect, which tries to simulate MMO-like interactions through a surprisingly deep relationship system. 이 게임의 재미는 ssc에서 나온다.
다만 패드로 하던 게임을 그대로 가져온거라 키보드로 하기에는 불편한 점이 있다.
키보드로 바뀌면서 몇 가지 정도 개선할 수 있는 부분도 있었을 것이나 어차피 옛날 게임이라 그런지 개선한 부분은 없고 마우스를 맵 위에 놓거나 팔레트 위에 위치해 있으면 공격이 나가지 않는 불편한 점이 오히려 생겼다.
그래도 할인할 때 사면, 또 소아온을 좋아하면 즐길 수는 있을 것이다.

소드 스킬 쓸 때 파란 빛 번쩍하는데 이때 다른 소드 스킬로 연계 가능하다. 이게 ssc이며 이 게임에서 제일 재밌는 부분이라고 생각한다.
근데 비섬일도, 레전더리 노가다는 좀 줄여줘라....
