If you have an Adderall prescription, then this game is for you!
I was so hyped when I finally beat the Hyper Hexagonest stage.
This game is in my top 5 and I'm not even exaggerating in the slightest.
SUPER. HEXAGON.
It was really nice of Chipzel to let Terry include a game with her EP
Game over. Begin. Game over. Begin. GAME OVER. BEGIN.
You will never feel "good" at this game, only mildly competent at times, and then the game will humble you once again. You will learn to hate the pain, then ignore the pain, then enjoy the pain. The soundtrack is fire and will keep you wanting to beat the levels just to hear the next track. I bought this game to support the artist, but I listen to the OST online much more than I play this game because it will drive you to the edge of true suffering.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting to get such a beatdown the instant I opened this game. It's fun and addicting, but the movement feels like cold butter. Too slippery and somehow not slippery enough. The controls are SO DAMN SENSITIVE. The nauseating visuals don't really lend any help either. Half of me feels like the difficulty is total bs, the other half of me thinks it's just a lack of adaptability on my part. I'll play more and see if my opinion changes later on.
Otherwise it's fun, but annoyingly difficult.
EDIT:
I developed a headache after trying to play this for 30 minutes. I'd have a lot more fun trying to learn the patterns if the controls were a little more cooperative, and the visuals weren't so brain melting. (The thumping and skewing is a little much) Mouse is a lot easier than keyboard, personally. This game is NOT what I was expecting when I bought it. I was hoping for a casual arcady rhythm game, but I got a hyper-difficult-synapse-searing nightmare game. I still recommend it, because it has awesome music, but this game is NOT for me lol.
Thank you Terry Cavanagh for blessing ios with this legendary banger game back in 2012 <3
So happy I spent the ~$1 on this over a decade ago. Hours of fun, and one of my favorite achievement hunting games in recent memory.
Super Hexagon is a striking example of how a video game can achieve extraordinary impact through simplicity, precision, and relentless intensity. Developed and published by Terry Cavanagh and released on Steam in 2012, the game stands as one of the most recognizable minimalist arcade experiences in modern indie gaming. At first glance, the game appears deceptively simple: a small triangular cursor rotates around a central polygon while geometric walls rush inward from all sides. Yet this minimalist concept quickly transforms into one of the most demanding reflex challenges in gaming, where survival depends on split-second decision making, pattern recognition, and the ability to remain calm amid overwhelming visual chaos.
The gameplay revolves around a straightforward but brutally unforgiving mechanic. Players rotate their triangular avatar around a central hexagon, moving left or right to slip through narrow openings in incoming walls. These walls rapidly collapse toward the center of the screen, forcing constant movement and immediate reactions. One mistake instantly ends the run, and the level restarts without delay. The objective is not to reach an endpoint but simply to survive as long as possible, gradually pushing personal records higher. As the timer climbs, the speed increases, the screen begins spinning unpredictably, and visual distortions make spatial awareness more difficult, creating a sense of escalating pressure that keeps players in a constant state of heightened concentration.
Despite the extremely simple control scheme, the game offers a surprising amount of progression. There are three main difficulty levels—Hexagon, Hexagoner, and Hexagonest—each more punishing than the last. These levels begin at what the game openly labels “Hard,” “Harder,” and “Hardest,” immediately signaling the uncompromising nature of the challenge. Surviving for sixty seconds on any stage unlocks its “Hyper” version, which dramatically increases speed and complexity. The Hyper modes represent the true test of mastery, demanding almost superhuman reflexes and intense pattern memorization. In total, the game contains six variations of its levels, each offering slightly different rhythms, obstacle patterns, and visual effects that prevent the experience from ever feeling repetitive.
One of the most memorable aspects of Super Hexagon is its audiovisual design, which transforms what could have been a simple arcade concept into a hypnotic sensory experience. The soundtrack, composed by chiptune musician Chipzel, plays a crucial role in the game’s identity. Each stage features a different track—such as “Courtesy,” “Otis,” and “Focus”—and the music begins at a random point whenever the level restarts, preventing repetition and maintaining a dynamic rhythm during every attempt. The combination of pulsating electronic music, flashing neon colors, and constantly shifting geometric patterns creates an almost trance-like atmosphere that draws players deeper into the experience the longer they play.
Visually, the game embraces a bold minimalist aesthetic that emphasizes movement and color rather than detailed graphics. The backgrounds cycle through vibrant color palettes, the central polygon morphs and rotates, and the entire screen often spins dramatically to disorient the player. This deliberate visual intensity contributes to the feeling that the game is almost attacking the senses. Yet beneath this chaos lies a remarkably consistent logic. Obstacles follow recognizable patterns, and skilled players eventually learn to anticipate them rather than simply react. This transition—from panic to calm focus—is one of the most satisfying aspects of the game and gives the experience its addictive quality.
The design philosophy behind Super Hexagon reflects a pure arcade mentality. There are no upgrades, narrative sequences, or elaborate progression systems. Instead, the game is built around the idea of immediate challenge and instant retries. When the player fails, the game resets instantly, encouraging another attempt within seconds. This loop creates a powerful “just one more try” effect that can easily keep players engaged for far longer than expected. Because each run lasts only seconds or minutes, the game maintains an intense pace that never allows boredom to set in.
The reception to Super Hexagon has been overwhelmingly positive, with critics praising its design purity and addictive gameplay. The game earned strong review scores and widespread recognition within the indie community, with many critics describing it as a masterclass in minimalist game design. Its influence can be seen in later rhythm-based and reaction-focused indie titles that attempt to capture the same blend of simplicity and intensity. Even years after its release, the game continues to maintain a strong reputation among players who appreciate challenging arcade experiences.
Ultimately, Super Hexagon proves that a game does not need complex systems or elaborate visuals to become unforgettable. Through a perfectly tuned combination of mechanics, music, and difficulty, it creates an experience that is both punishing and exhilarating. It demands patience, focus, and determination from players, rewarding persistence with moments of intense satisfaction when a new survival record is achieved. For those who enjoy high-skill arcade gameplay and minimalist design, it remains one of the most iconic indie games ever released on Steam.

I honestly had so much fun playing Super Hexagon. What surprised me the most is how it turned into a game the whole family enjoys. My brother, me, and even my 7-year-old nephew keep taking turns trying to beat each other's time.
Overall, Super Hexagon is a simple but addictive game that anyone can pick up, yet it still feels rewarding when you improve. It’s become a surprisingly fun little family competition for us. Kudos to Terry.
I was gifted this game by a friend after previously watching him stream it and I had forgotten all about it. I am however realizing it was a curse not a gift. This disorienting blur of insanity must have been made by the devil himself that being said the music is bopping. For those interested but can't spare the three buck I imagine you could achieve a similar effect with the right blend of psychedelics and an RGB speaker.
'ta muy bueno

Jogo do demônio! Todo mundo tem que jogar isso. 10/10!

I had fun <3
bueno
AGAIN!
Este es el mejor juego del mundo. Lo jugué por primera vez en 2013. Llevo 13 años jugando a diario, siete días a la semana. Soy un hexagonista.
yes
Fantastic game with a Fantastic soundtrack. Really difficult, took me until my twenties to beat all the levels.
its so addictive yet stressful at the same time but definetly worth it
its cool
I suck at this game
fun intense fast pased puzzle game

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how do you even complete the third level
Inigualable

This captcha from 2090 will burn your visual cortex down and might cause a minor case of severe brain damage in some people. Epilepsy tells horror stories around the campfire about this game. If you beat all the levels (60 seconds each), you unlock your third eye, sharingan and the parking spot for the disabled.
TIP: just turn off the sound and lock in. I'm on the last level and my vision is starting to look like how cocaine smells. 10/10
Maybe the single best video game I've ever played.
I've owned it on each and every phone I've ever owned, purchasing it maybe 6 times across 4 different platforms and I've played it for well over 300 hours over the course of 15 years. From my fifth grade iPod Touch, to my middle school PSP, to my current adult smart phone, this game has remained a constant in my life. I can sincerely say, this game has given me more enjoyment for $2.99 than almost any game worth 20x the dollar amount.
There is no microtransactions, there is no shortcuts, there is no cheat codes. The only thing that changes in this game is you. You will learn, you will rage, and you will find joy in the journey.
tickles my brain
game is surprisingly fun to play , true that it is hard , but the music and visuals are on point , i went full sweat mode on it and cleared it fully in 5.1 h , im super proud of this XD
would totally recommend this game to challenge friends and induce some headdache

HEXAGON
its fun
basic but good enough
Absolutely Super (Hexagon), I played it about 10 years ago on my iPod Touch but recently was reminded of the great soundtrack, came back to try it on Steam and it turns out I am much better now compared to the iPod days, with that being said it's still a brutally intense arcade game which makes you truly appreciate each second you stay alive.
Although I managed it in under 3 hours the final Hyper Hexagonest stage still kicked my ass for a bit, definitely will take most new players even longer to get it done, but where's the fun in easy? Push yourselves, try to get crazy endless runs, and enjoy the incredible Super Hexagon Soundtrack.
SUPER HEXAGON.
Fries my ADHD brain like an egg when I need it most.

It took me 41 hours to beat the game. 41 hours across just six stages. Each stage is a 60-second survival test. If we assume my average attempt lasted 30 seconds, and I spent — whatever — 5% of the time on loading screens and menus, then I spent, on average, 23,370 seconds (6 hours and 29 minutes) on each stage. That’s 779 attempts per stage.
That’s it. 41 hours moving the cursor through repetitive paths in only six stages.
I’m a guy pushing middle age, single, no kids.
I could have spent my limited free time trying to meet someone, maybe get a girlfriend. Then perhaps I wouldn’t die alone and could continue my bloodline instead of being completely and genetically erased from existence.
But no.
I spent 41 hours repeating six stages to platinum this piece of ♥♥♥♥.
awesome game, super addicting and fun. The music is great and the skill curve ramps up in a satisfying way.
If you seen the movie whiplash then that"s it
you"re the student who gets punished for every mistake.
Until you get better and become perfect
Took me long to beat this game so I could FINALLY REVIEW.
Super Hexagon was a insanely fun/stressful game that requires your eyes and hand coordination just to even beat this game.
Hexagon is a pretty good starting stage, you only need to practice patience and accuracy to beat this stage (the Hyper mode gives you the real test of it ensuring you can beat the next stages).
Hexagoner is probably one of the most fun stages I've had, it tests your reaction time and pattern knowledge to beat this stage (Hyper mode offers less lethal patterns but focuses more of your reaction speed).
Hexagonest is not a stage to joke about when it comes to difficulty spike, in this stage your camera is above the center of the hexagon unlike other stages and more often throws unpredictable patterns that will throw you off guard if you lose FOCUS. It tests everything you learned about the previous stages and its Hyper mode will pressure you even more as to force you to make mistakes by throwing out patterns that would otherwise result of you losing focus even for a moment.
Lastly it's ending shows everything you did so far from where you died (Post-Hyper Hexagonest) all the way to the beginning (Hexagon), it also showcases it's flash game 'Hexagon' at the last part of the ending which all this makes it more satisfying to watch and relive all your past experience before finally rest at the end.
I'm so glad that I finally beaten this game since I loved this game for years, which made completing the whole game like breaking free from the shackles I have for years.
Overall, this game is worth buying and I guarantee it'll be.
Game over, begin, masterpiece
This game destroyed my monitor :) 10/10
I love when you enter the flow state in this game and suddenly you can see EVERYTHING. Music is liiit
Finally. It only took 23 hours to beat a game that can technically be beaten in 6 minutes. This is one of my greatest gaming achievement.
This is a timeless masterpiece of a game and I cannot recommend it enough.
10/10
