I'm not sure why, but I can't create an account because the game never sends me a verification email. Plus, why is there no solo mode? Why does it have to be online? I saw a video on YouTube that was all solo-play lobby. Is that a mod, or a pirated/altered copy? That version seems way better, considering I can't even log on. I've decided to pay for a different game since I can't even get the game developer's support to play the game. I've spent hours waiting, and I'm done.
It's really for those how like Star Wars and MMORPGs
I've played this game since it's been out, and as far as free to play models go, I think SWTOR does it the best for mmos. If you subscribe at any point you get to retain some of your benefits as a Preferred status player which is really player friendly.
Additionally if you attach a security key to your account you gain 100 premium currency a month as long as its on, so if you do take a break and come back you tend to be able to unlock features for your account in the legacy system.
The story is pretty decent for each class, its very immersive.

So I've played a little, it has been two weeks. Here's my honest opinion (Scroll at the bottom for a TLDR):
The stories are interesting and for context for those who doesn't play the game, there's 8 differents stories and each developped in their own depth, all voice acted. It brings a vision on the world different each times while still visiting the same environment. Both sides are great, Empire and Republic.
The gameplay loop is alright. Basically level a character, unlock abilities, finish the story, then go do group content and sell the loot. Hopefully, the RP community keeps the game mostly alive while rolling the economy for their cosmetics. But if we keep that away, the game is basically go do this, go do that, come back, oh no bad guy to fight, go back, and so long.
MMORPG, which of course means microtransactions and paid subscription. I am personally used to that from my past playtime on Runescape, but this one is slightly different - and for the best. Just to start things up, the subscription service is for an entire account, not per characters. That out of the way, let's start with what is available to Free to Play players: Level cap at 60, one story divided into 3 acts, limit of 8 characters, limit of 1 million credits. Just that, I can see about 200-250 hours of gameplay easy. Now you pay: Level cap at 80, 11 additional stories (At the time of writing this review), limit of 24 characters, and no limit on credits. Of course, that's just the basics, more details can be found in their page. -- Microtransactions, I've seen multiple people saying "Can you play without having the pay? No." This is wrong. You can easily play the 200-250 hours of gameplay without spending a dyme, but the game becomes quicker when you pay, like any other MMORPG.
So overall, do I recommend to play the game? Yes IF you are ready to be surrounded by people that paid or that have been there for a while. If you are a fan of Star Wars before the Disney era, I recommend trying the roleplay if you are into that.

It is necessary to begin with the principal strengths and weaknesses of SWTOR...
If one is not distracted by the visual spectacle of the trailers and values the structure of role-playing games, then the core of SWTOR will be found effective. The original vision is most evident in the base storylines, particularly on the side of the Sith Empire. The Republic narratives offer less incentive for repetition, while the Imperial Agent, Inquisitor, and Warrior classes provide greater replay value due to their design. The appeal lies in the consistent delivery of power and consequence within these storylines.
The monetisation model is based on a monthly subscription, with no annual option available. The benefit is that a subscriber gains access to all released content up to the end of their subscription period. While certain gameplay restrictions remain after cancellation, these do not materially impede access to the main storylines or expansions-- they are merely annoyances.
After the release of the 'Knights of the Eternal Throne' expansion, the quality of character decision-making declines, often diverging from established character logic. The progression of the story continues to grant your character 'power,' but the coherence of it is diminished as new content is introduced. You can take on the Immortal Emperor, but then you will struggle against a glorified secretary. At times, narrative devices are introduced crudely to expedite the safety of the writer's OC antagonists, who are then recast as victims or concealed heroes... This is quite common. When a character is overtly ambitious and malevolent essentially for the 'love of the game,' they often have very little logic at all, and we are left with an idiot plot, where it can only advance because everyone is making very odd decisions.
Development proceeds at a slow pace, and the role-playing environment has deteriorated to second-job routine with totally mis-aligned incentives. The mentality here is essentially that you owe people something (if this sounds jarring, I recommend making your own RP guild). The paid store offers items that lack thematic consistency, frequently disregarding established aesthetic standards. Even when referencing prominent figures, the execution is imprecise, undermining the game's immersion. See the Thrawn and Krennic-inspired outfits. There's no uniformity in these uniforms, neither with the Sith Empire's visual style, nor even with the Galactic Empire. Still, better than the recent outfits of thigh-high leather with big red bows (very nuanced, Broadsword).
Community management has been observed celebrating acts of political violence before removing public evidence and migrating to alternative platforms. While I cannot provide direct evidence, the pattern is consistent with the content they endorse and seek to introduce into the game.
Anywho... the base game (from class stories to Knights of the Fallen Empire-ish [if you're a Force-user]) remains strong and merits recommendation. However, it is not at all prudent to maintain a continuous subscription in anticipation of future content. My advice is to take the rational course: subscribe only when new material is released, and maximise the value of your money in a world burdened by 'shrinkflation' and unnecessary expenditure.

Base game stories are some of the best Star Wars content out there. BioWare golden age before EA removed their soul.
I played this game in the beta. Can't log back into that account, can't remove the key, can't email the company. So I created a new account, and it says "We can't log you in. Please double-check you're using the same Steam account you usually play on and try again." No option to email somebody about whatever that means... I've given up. This game is trash and I'm not trying again. Rest in peace. Good luck with your little "expansion" lul.

Star Wars: The Old Republic é daqueles jogos que nos trailers e screenshots parece uma aventura épica de Star Wars, mas quando se começa o jogo sente-se logo que tem alguns anos em cima.
O combate é o clássico tab-target, um bocadinho stiff mas divertido, especialmente quando as abilities entram em cena. Os companions têm personalidade e o ambiente Star Wars puxa-nos mesmo para dentro da cena.
É verdade que se nota a idade em alguns sítios e que as quests secundárias podem ficar repetitivas, mas no geral é uma experiência sólida e viciante para quem gosta de Star Wars.
A Game with old Graffics, a nearly unplayable Key binding and a extremely bad Fighting engine. Tried it for half an hour. Only thing the game did for me was making me angry and aggressive. Why would anyone like to have multiple ways to move and look around, but the same button to look around AND for attacking. And then you need to know, that attacking isn't the usual, in every other MMO used, Leftklick. No. It's right-click, because Leftklick is used to move as well as w a s d do and as q and e do. Sorry, but that makes the game unplayable for me. Do an overwork for movement ant might think about trying again. But like this it's the worst game I ever played in about 20 Years.
Choix à impact réel (lumineux ou obscur) cool. Les histoires principaux de classes sont intéressants. MAIS, les dev sortent des maintenant des missions ayant quasi aucun. La mise à jour de l histoire avec la mission ENIGMA est une catastrophe.
premièrement, le conseil noir et l impératrice réussissent à se poser sans problème sur Odessen sans que l alliance et le personnage principale s en rendent compte. À partir de ce moment, on se demande si l alliance mérite vraiment son nom.
Deuxièmement, le commandant se fait enfermer par l Empire dans ses appartements sans broncher (sachant qu il a déjà vaincu par le passé des siths comme Vitiate, Arcan, Malgus et d autres grands siths). Un mc qui n a d autre choix que de rester passif non merci !
Troisièmement, Jadus (bien qu il est un personnage que j aime bien) réapparait deux secondes avant de repartir avec l holocron.
Tout ca pour dire que le début de swtor donnait plus de choix aux joueurs, mais qu au fur et à mesure que l histoire continue, il en a moins et surtout que le personnage doit rester passif dans des moments opportuns.
Meilleur chose à faire est de donné une fin digne d un star wars qui finit par un choix lumineux ou obscur et une cinématique de fin.

Favorite MMO of all time. Always more content - PVP/PVE
there are criticisms. i find combat very clunky, it's like an ARPG with kind of RTS combat. abilities are assigned to number keys and my hand can't reach all of them from the movement keys (WASD), and before using them you must target something by clicking on it. it's frustrating when you miss because that target is then locked in your sights while the enemy you'd meant to attack is dealing lots of damage. maybe i'm just used to more regular real-time action attacks used in other games.
i also think enemies last too long (supposedly fragile enemies that should be sliced in half with a lightsabre take a good few hits to kill) while doing too little damage in comparison. battles feel like a grind. it's much nicer to just use a stealth class and wander around invisible rather than continuously taking ages to kill enemies with no sense of danger.
and er... how come the Star Wars universe was exactly the same 2,000 years before the films, right down to the corporations, politics, architecture and technology? i mean the lore is perfectly reasonable and enjoyable, it just needs to be a bit closer to the present Star Wars to be realistic. it might even work in the universe's future.
all that aside, this game has tons of lore, cinematic cutscenes, choices that matter, appealing retro graphics, great voice acting, vibrant open world, decent character customization and flare, and it's perfectly ok to play it solo. plus because it's not a hugely bulky game it's excellent if you have a little old laptop, not much money, and you want to play something like Baldur's Gate III. definetely recommend

A Good MMO, and it's Star Wars before it's downfall caused by Disney. Great story telling, some of the best in the world of MMORPG's. Glad to see it still has a player base in 2026, with a new expansion planned.
Cannot link my account to my new steam account. Have sat on the phone with customer service, sent emails. Tried every unlinking and relinking step I could find online. Which is a shame cause this really is quite fun. Just get the standalone edition from their website and add it as a non steam game. Same experience but with way less headache.

I just like Star wars. been playing since almost release. it's gotten better. story is still pretty strong and I'm happy to see a company continue to build on an existing game rather than scrapping it for a new project to replace it.

Star Wars hayranlarının bileceği gibi, Korriban, Sithlerin binlerce yıl öncesinden kalma antik gezegenidir. Antik Sith Ustalarının Anıt Mezarları ile dolu bir gezegendir. Oradaki bütün ana görevleri tamamladıktan sonra Sithlerin Merkezi Gezegeni olan Dromund Kaas'a gidiyorsunuz, buradaki bütün ana görevleri de tamamladığınız da eğer benim gibi Darth Baran, ustanızsa, size bir uzay gemi hediye ediyor ve oradan itibaren, ufak oyun içi para (gerçek para değil) ücretler karşılığında bir çok gezegene gidebiliyorsunuz uzay geminizle.

Yan görevler hem seviye kasmak, hem de (item) malzeme kasmak için önemli. Tamam, Sithim, ama benimde sınırlarım var. lol Oyun içi npclerle diyaloglarınızda 3 seçenek olarak cevap verme hakkınız oluyor, bu üç seçenekten seçtiğinize göre, kimi zaman Karanlık Taraf yada Aydınlık Taraf puanları alıyorsunuz, bunu takip edebileceğiniz bir gösterge var.
Sonra birde oyunun başlarından itibaren gelen yardımcınız var, düşmanlarla savaşırken sizi iyileştiren ve bir yandan kendi de savaşarak size destek olan, onuda (item) malzeme ve çeşitli ödüllerle güçlendirebiliyorsunuz. Siz göndermediğiniz sürece de yanınızdan ayrılmayacak bir npc karakter. Oyunun gerçek para ile, silahlar, zırhlar, kostümler, binekler vb. alabileceğiniz bir mağazası var. SWTOR'u oynaması bedava, fakat aylık abone olup bir çok ayrıcalıktan da yararlanabiliyorsunuz. Yani her oynaması bedava MMORPG gibi ''Pay to Win'' bir yanı da var.

I can be a dark side jedi, light side Sith, sniper for the republic, or gunslinger for the empire. with so many varieties the story and game play can change each time.
It's KOTOR 3 inside an MMO, where you can ignore everyone else and just play through.

Bom, vamos lá. O jogo em si parece extremamente promissor: poder vivenciar uma incrível saga de Star Wars é algo que chama muita atenção. O problema é que, por ser um MMORPG, você naturalmente tende a querer jogar online. Massss... não tem muitos jogadores brasileiros, e isso é um grande problema se você quer jogar com alguém ou simplesmente interagir por aí, nas dungeons e masmorras.
É um jogo que pode ser muito nostálgico para alguns, mas extremamente entediante para quem não conhece a saga e não sabe nada de inglês básico ou intermediário.
Muito promissor e pouquíssimo aproveitado. Na minha opinião, se fizessem um novo MMORPG de Star Wars que se passasse na época do Império, como nos filmes 4, 5 e 6, seria bem melhor.
Mas vale a tentativa.

Oh and youre level is capped until you start paying for a subscription.

Decent star wars game. Didn't suck me in until i realized I sunk over 1800 hours into this. Recommend if you want to sink your life into the star wars world.
Really though, this MMO is good. Only ff14 and this MMO has ever got me to be addicted to an MMO. I replayed each class to romance each companion and without the expansions, that is where my 1800 hours went. I am only now getting to the hutt cartel...
Old vibes, really likeable story and nice mechanics
Love the customization and storyline. The plot isn't bad at all.
It has been 14 year since SWTOR launched in 2011 and to this day, so many QOL improvements haven't happened, from being able to add dye to your collections as once you get it cause it cost 1750 that's about $15 for ONE Dye, and its not reusable its a one time use and then if you remove it your ♥♥♥♥ out of luck, not to mention you can't switch genders the starter companions are gender locked which is so strange in a MMO that gives you so much freedom to choose your experience AND to top it off changing species is so bloody expensive, I want to change to Chiss but it cost $8 to even fricking change and don't even get me started on the Subscription side its a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
There's also this legacy system which is honestly not that bad it syncs to all your other characters and you can set up like a family tree style system, maybe your Sith is enemies to your jedi etc etc.
Macros are so good in MMOs and really can help out when you have 20+ skills/spells to choose and use
this game doesn't allow macros nor addons after 14 years you think they'd get with the times and make there own system but something feels odd about the games state...you see in 2023 around June, BioWare changed from developing the game as they had for years to a new team called Broadsword and so most of the staff did go but I've got this theory so follow along here if you can
HeroEngine which is the main engine for SWTOR but is heavily modified and with this the engine only uses a single CPU core so it does have bottlenecks at times and funny enough it will run better on older PCs then modern ones little interesting side note for you but back to my main point, I am 99% sure that BioWare realized the engine wasn't going to do well long term and be as great in 15 years as most people aren't gonna take the time to learn a old engine that hasn't had a update since 2024 and only uses a single core its not worth making it a MMO... BUT EA cared at the time probably for short term profits so they were forced to use it and as time went on, those who knew the engine left and when EA bought the source code for the engine it was so they could work more on their own modified version of the HE (Hero Engine) now move to 2026 and I bet almost no one but maybe 2 people know how to Operate via the source code who are still at BroadSword so nothing new gets added or key mechanics IE Gender swap/Companions gets changed because they have to work on the current seasons/story (yes theres more story coming in 2026) and to do a change of the engine can cause tons of issues so players are left with not being able to change things and your stuck on a single CPU which means you can't have huge PvP or PvE battles that could really help change this game for the better.. and all the while EA forces them to sell high priced Microtransactions like $15 dye because in the end they know the game will die slowly.
As of 3/21/26 the game hasn't hit over or been at 10k players on steam since May 2023. I love the Old Republic and I love this game but things need to be said about it for good change to happen, I truly hope I am wrong and this year things do change for the better of the SWTOR community and Star Wars community as a whole
Update or change the engine PLEASE <3

Decent Star Wars fantasy. The story is good but the MMO aspects are lackluster. Best for role players looking to play space Barbie in the Star Wars universe. RP walk FTW.
