This is a decent enough word finding game, but it suffers from a few issues.
It was clearly designed as a mobile game first. The layout, the interface, everything about it screams "Mobile game that is barely playable unless you buy premium currency". But this doesn't have the premium currency (thank god). Unfortunately, it also doesn't seem to be balanced around the fact that you paid for it.
It's EXTREMELY grindy. I'm only to floor 20 and I've already had to repeat levels for around half of my play time to upgrade my gear. To make this much worse, to switch or replay levels you usually have to watch unskippable animations for a few seconds and/or click through multiple menus of the UI. It just makes the entire process that much more tedious.
There are much better games in this style out there. Unless you get this on an extremely deep discount (at least 90% off) or are really desperate for another word building game to play, I'd probably just avoid it.
If Steam had a numerical rating system instead of just "Yes" or "No", I'd probably give this one a 3/10 or so.
Cute game. Almost really good for practicing English as well. Except for the really out-there words it has as the big ones.

I recommend Spellspire to all! Though, I think this game is especially for fans of Bookworm Adventures. Fun and challenging at times. Must use strategy, build your inventory of useful items, gain power-ups, upgrade attire through spending coins and jewels wisely to pass levels and get to the next stage. Nice colorful graphics and it's also available for Android. I only wish there was more Spellspire titles released or maybe even just a sequel.
Bought this thinking it was like Letter Quest - and it is - but it's worse on every level. Not worth it, even on sale.

I've always loved typing and word games and this game has both of those elements in a fun way! I feel like it is a perfect blend of challenging and fun, especially since you can actually upgrade your wizard and change what equipment you have to try out different combinations and learn the strengths and weaknesses of the enemies you encounter. I definitely recommend this game for people who want a fun yet light game, both in terms of playing and for the computer; it's a great game to exercise your brainpower while also being able to play it as if you were in an RPG!

This game looks very mobile-game-y, which I personally Do Not Like, but whatever. It's poorly balanced, so you're going to be grinding for money /a lot/ of the time. And you need...so much money. There doesn't seem to be a "ah, this is a regular human word that humans would use" filter on the thing, so many of the words I would mark as flat out unobtainable. They fed it a dictionary and you're never gonna figure out the Big Word because it's the genus of a specific Floridian tree. Perish
Quirky spelling RPG akin to Popcap's Bookworm games. It doesn't do things as well as Bookworm however this has more appeal to a wider range of ages since it doesn't feel or play like a kids game. Great for casuals, achievement hunters, your daughter, your dad, or your great nan Pam who's looking for something fun to do on her 2005 PC.

I had high hopes for this game, I really did. Unfortunately, the game is extremely grindy. You'll be left replaying the same levels 5-10 times just so you can get enough gold to upgrade your gear so that you don't get one shot by an enemy because you couldn't come up with 18 new words in the 30 seconds you get before getting hit by an OP enemy. The balance in this game is bizarre. Gear is extremely expensive, gold is hard to come by, and some enemies will be one shot while other enemies take forever to die all in the same level. Unfortunately the game also has a tendency to give you awful letters leaving you having to come up with words that look like they belong in the ingredients of a big mac with how obsurd they are. I can't recommend this game unfortunately due to the grindy, and unbalanced system.

A great game! Super addictive and lots of fun, with clear progression and surprising number of levels to explore. A great game for anyone who likes word-based games and character progression.
It isn't a bad game, especially at the low price you can pick it up for these days. You get exactly what's advertised.
My experience: I got to the first real boss at level 10. I typed in a bunch of words, none of which did real damage, then it killed me in one hit. I went back to earlier levels, ground out some gold, and got some upgrades. I came back the next day to get some extra gold from the daily reward and got another upgrade. I returned to the boss, typed in a bunch of words, none of which did real damage, then it killed me in one hit.
Like, sure, there are some issues with being stuck with a bad letter selection through random chance and what not, but worst case you just retry the level. The base of the game is grinding for upgrades, and the grinding doesn't feel good. There's a limited amount of bonus gold from beating levels, and after that you're fighting five monsters at a time for a handful of gold. Think Diablo if you had to return to town every 30 seconds. It keeps you from getting into a rhythm. If there was an infinite mode, where you could just sit down for a five-minute session and fight a bunch of monsters in a row, the game would be significantly improved. As it is, even if the core gameplay sounds good, there's just not enough of it.

도무지 끝이 보이지 않는 단어의 뺑뺑이. 도전과제 올클리어를 위해서는 도합 [b][ 탑 100층 정복 X 2회, 언더그라운드 42층(=미션 630개) ][/b] 이라는 괴랄한 노가다를 실시해야 한다. 100층 두 번 찍고 오는 것도 토나올 정도였는데, 언더그라운드 레벨 구성되어 있는 꼬락서니를 보고 고개를 저을 수밖에 없었다. 분명 초반까지는 좋은 게임이었다. 스펠링이라는 소재도 잘 활용했다. 하지만 '노가다'라는 괴물은 우리의 눈과 손을 둔하게 만들며, 지루함과 함께 스트레스를 가져왔다. 언더그라운드만 없었어도 엄지를 올릴 여지는 있었다. 하지만 이젠 돌이킬 수 없는 강을 건너버렸다. 게임성 자체가 '노가다'와 궁합이 맞질 않는 게임이다.
I'm kind of stuck in the game although with about 6000 in-game coins. I could spend some of it to meagerly upgrade my gears enough to MAYBE withstand the damage the enemies deal now. I'm on 16th floor, and the skeleton guy one-shots me like a boss, and I think it's a bit unfair. Yes, I'm using the first armor piece, and I could upgrade to the 2nd one which is a BIT stronger, but I was saving the coins for a better one. And now my complaint here is that
(1) you don't get so many coins for redoing previous stages, and it feels like too much grinding.
(2) I also kind of think the timer is a bit too fast, and my brain can't keep up with it, and I get anxious when the timer is low and my HP.
(3) ALSO, I think there should be more items in the game to make it a consolation at the least. Thx...
On the other hand, I like that the game supports controller.
Eu estava com medo de comprar porque vários reviews dizem que o jogo é muito difícil. Coisa nenhum. Você vai jogar as mesmas fases várias vezes pra conseguir dinheiro e melhorar seus status e equipamentos, mas o jogo não é tão difícil assim. Tem que ter um ótimo domínio de inglês pra jogar, mas isso já é pré-requisito pelo jogo, obviamente, ser em inglês. Recomendo o jogo, mas antes recomendo que comprem Letter Quest. Depois que terminar Letter Quest, jogar esse daqui fica mais fácil.
From the developers/publishers of other mobile style games such as Tennis to the Face and King Oddball, Spellspire is in a very similar mould. This is a spelling game dressed up (very loosely) as a dungeon crawler, whereby spelt words damage enemies encountered, who each have a timer before attacking you.
There are wands to unlock, some having elemental bonus that will help against particular enemies, and armor that will also help with reducing damage, or maximising coin gain etc.
There is nothing inherently wrong with the design of the game, but there are two main drawbacks.
1. You are at the mercy of the random letters granted at the beginning of the game. You can only use a word once, and if you are unlucky enough to find very few vowels or an abundance of useless letters (x, z etc) then you are doomed to failure.
2. There are far too many floor to navigate without any variety on offer. The enemies might change a little, but the gameplay will never change, so beating level 1, will be like beating level 51, and that gets old fast. Changing the wand/armor doesn't change how you play, and aside from some enemies freezing your letters, the gameplay becomes old fast.
Of course, keep in mind this game is really designed with mobile in mind, and spending 10 minutes playing whilst on a lunch break or on a bus will be fine, but judged purely as a Steam game, it can't be recommended unless you plan to only play for an hour or two (and at a full price of £6.99 that is far too much to ask)
Best for: Oxford English Wizards
This is a bad mobile port, and one of the grindiest games I have ever played. You would have to play for hundreds of hours to beat the game, unless you just use one of those Scrabble word search tools.
Its ridiculous.

CHALLENGING AND FUN
I love this game! I play it in small chunks before I do any heavy typing work or before anything that requires a lot of brain function-- it's a great way to warm up the ol' noggin!
Its Boggle with a life bar, monsters and an item shop.
There's nothing revolutionary here, but what it does it does well. You purchase weapons/armor and power'em up with the magic of grinding to slaughter an ever increasingly difficult hodgepodge of children's pop-up book looking monsters. Go back and replay previous levels with the goal of finishing with full health to win stars that unlock new weapons/armor (just use a potion after the last enemy's down and viola! Won a star.). Its all fairly straight forward, make as many words as you can, as quickly as you can, before the timer runs out and your enemy attacks. If you start a level with crappy letters you can simply restart it to get fresh ones. A fun spelling game to kill some time while waiting for the pizza guy to show up.
I enjoyed 90% of the game but then at the end it got extremely grindy. I mean it was gruesomely tedious. Might be just me, but I felt like grind was an intentional part of Spellspire's design. That said, I enjoyed the first 90% so it is a nice time-filler if you are into spelling games.

Но паршивая реализация. Количество букв и сложность слов по мере продвижения по уровням - не растут. Зато растёт количество хп и урон боссов. В результате в какой-то момент доходишь до того, что на одного рядового противника надо по 10-15 слов, которые ты банально не успеваешь набрать, а он убивает тебя с 1 удара. Как это решается? Гриндом. Возвращаешься в уже пройденные уровни, набиваешь на слабых врагах золото - прокачиваешь урон и хп. После этого на врага надо уже 2-3 удара как в самом начале игры, а ты можешь выдержать хотя бы 2 удара. И вот это вот происходит постоянно. Упираешься в тупик, возвращаешься, копишь монеты по копейкам, прокачиваешься, чтобы пройти дальше. Причём денег на повышение нужно всё больше и больше с каждым разом, а падают все те же гроши, что и в самом начале. СКУЧНО! Зачем они вообще это сделали? Хорошая идея загублена этим унылым гриндом уже пройденных локаций по 100 раз ради пары лишних монет на прокачку. Эх...

This is a simple word puzzle. Each word you find does damage to the enemies. You cannot reuse words. It helps if you can type quickly and accurately.

Un jeu de lettres addictif, pour peu que l'on connaisse tout de même pas mal de mots du dictionnaire anglais, puisque le français n'est pas supporté.
Un principe simple : des ennemis à abattre par la force des mots, sachant que plus ils sont longs, plus ils font de dégâts.
Il faut savoir être rapide pour déjouer les attaques des ennemis que l'on croise.
Notre héros est vêtu d'un chapeau et d'une robe, et armé d'une baguette, chacun de ces objets peut-être amélioré. Par ailleurs, sa garde robe va s'étoffer au fur et à mesure que l'on progresse dans le jeu, en dépensant l'or gagné à chaque niveau accompli.
Quelques boss ponctuent l'avancée, chacun avec leurs particularités, force et faiblesse selon lesquelles il faudra choisir l'équipement adéquat.

Not as fun as Bookworm Adventures, it still scratches that itch for a spelling game with slight RPG elements.

Spellspire is an extremely difficult word/spelling game with the style and a few mechanics of an RPG. The gameplay itself is very basic, but it is what it says on the tin: a well-made spelling game.
Buy it if you're looking for a logical challenge, if you're not then this isn't for you. Simple as that.
It has the style/theme of an RPG and it has some minor RPG elements but I would not go as far as actually calling this an RPG.
It's a word game where you can buy a very small amount of items items and upgrade them. This does not make it an RPG when the gameplay entirely consists of you identifying words and typing them, you use your brain [b]way[/b] more than you use the RPG elements to your advantage.
[h1]Gameplay and mechanics[/h1]
You progress up a tower.
You start a level and slowly walk towards the enemies giving you a few seconds to look at the letters you've been given before combat starts. Once combat starts you need to start identifying and typing words to damage the enemies. Longer words mean more damage, you cannot use the same word twice.
You have the chance of finding items in each level. These items are simple "click to do damage" and health potion-type items.
The enemies attack you based on a timer which is usually 10-20 seconds long in-between each attack, but some enemies are slower and some are faster.
Each level is about 1 to 2 minutes long. You either complete it within that time or die within that time. If you complete a level without taking any damage you gain a start and get bonus loot(gold).
Bosses have exponentially more health, and because of this you need to play a bit more strategically, like if before the boss you identify a word that is quite long you're better off saving it for when you're attacking the boss and not waste it on the smaller enemies that usually die form just a 3-letter word.
This game very specifically a 'spelling' game: you need a pretty big vocabulary to ever succeed at this game. Typing the actual words is not the difficulty or challenge in this game, the challenge is looking at 10 randomly placed letters and using your brain and vocabulary to find enough words to complete a level, which is extremely difficult.

I believe it is very obvious why this game isn't super popular: it's so damn difficult and the gameplay is pretty simple and basic[i](short, slow side-scrolling, nothing really happening on your screen, easy to just rage quit and you have no one to blame but yourself for failing a level)[/i]
I'm not saying difficult games are unpopular but a difficult platformer or Action-RPG is not the same as a difficult [i]word game[/i].
It does what it's made to do in a great way, no technical issues, decent sound effects but nothing special, no real soundtrack to speak off.
Buy it if you're looking for a good challenge, don't buy it if you're looking for a big adventure or you're not a spelling bee master, which I'm definitely not.

Not the best word game I ever played. Mostly grind grind and grind
In this game, you climb a tower fighting some pretty adorable enemies by spelling words. Not only are the enemies cute, but so is the in game descriptions of everything. The beastiary, equippable items, and tips have cute and sometimes funny comments. This game actually has some strategy behind it as well, given that there are items that do continuous damage, some that freeze enemies, others that boost small instead of large words. There are also different enemy types with different strengths, weaknesses, and attack patterns. So far I've really enjoyed reading all the entries in the journal, and I can't wait to finish the game.
As a note the music is quite catchy and the sound effects and animations are cute and funny as well. I had not a single issue running the game on my computer and its also rather quick to install and boot up. For someone who likes games like bananagrams or scrabble, this is a game definitely worth your time. If you aren't into word or spelling games then definitely give this game a pass.
Another interesting note is that every battle is timed, and you do have to go back and fight the same monsters over again on a harder difficulty. At times, if you can't defeat an enemy at your current level you do have to go back to fight the monsters on a lower level again. This can be a tiny bit annoying as you do need to grind at times in order to get your equipment at the proper level to defeat the next boss. It could also be because I'm not the greatest at finding words, so take that as you will.

Due to it's mobile roots, it's definitely best played in short bursts.

You'll think finishing the 100-floor tower was the end-game but no. Post-tower is even more grindy and less interesting if you even made it to the top. Developers seem to have abandoned development of this game too.
This is a cute and fun time-waster game. Skills to possess if you want to have a good time: patience; high WPM for typing; ability to solve word scrambles with lightning precision; a large vocabulary.
Thankfully, grinding is built into the game, with the star for clearing a level a second time bringing with it a substantial reward. Don't bother upgrading anything until you get the final pieces of equipment and you should be good!
A worse version of Grimm's Letter Quest where the given letters don't swap out when you use them, so you're forced to make a list of anagrams out of a limited letter batch like an old newspaper jumble. The game isn't bad, just not great, or as fun as other word games. Get it on super sale.

Так что не особо рекомендую, если хочется побить нежить, то необязательно в других играх заучивать английский. Есть куча русскоязычных альтернатив, например, Epistory - хоть там и не нежить... Но там хотя бы слова на русском. Здесь же есть ещё ограничение по времени, так что по мере восхождения вверх вам надоест выискивать в английских буквах нужные слова...
[i] А вообще есть хинт - с планшета заходим на какой-нибудь сервис составления слов из букв. Набираем все буквы из игры и вуаля - все слова, начиная с самых больших. Вот только даже так игра превращается в пытку в виду кучи однообразных этажей [/i]
Ohhhhhhhh yeahhhhh...what a fun game. A fun game indeed! Who knew spelling words and blasting enemies can bring on so much joy and make the time fly super fast? It also taught me so many new words and this will help when you randomly want to say a word to impress or confuse someone. Oh and don't worry, there are a TON OF LEVELS. A TON. Endless ton of fun. So if you like to spell, or look up new words or even just blast enemies with words: go for it. Even if you aren't as good at spelling: there are items in the game to help you.
Although one has to move onto a new adventure...one shall remember and keep this game in high regards. Thank you so so so much!!!!!!! =)

Or maybe I just don't know some of the very weird words - like whatever a unit of measuring pain is "dol" or something like that. I have seen several extremely obscure words - or they are archaic and no longer in use. So sure... technically they are words, but they stopped being used about 200 years ago... so I think the game goes out of its way to punish the player.
But when I do put a word that I know is real - I can't tell if I already used it, or if the game just doesn't know that word.
Here's "pube" and I know that's a word, but the game doesn't say "you already used that!" - so I can't tell - the game confuses me. Even though the game is a pretty good idea - it's overly difficult, and it doesn't really try to teach words.

Now if you're having trouble - if the game feels like a brick wall - I like the fact that I can go back to lower levels I've already beaten and I can play them again and collect money so I can level up my armor and weapons to make it easier to beat the harder levels. Also the difficulty from one level to the next isn't consistently harder. Sometimes a higher level is easier than a lower level too! So the game has a lopsided difficulty curve - but in some ways it makes it interesting and it also is a relief when I think the next level is going to be too hard and actually it turns out to be easier than I was expecting.
Also some levels give consistently the same rewards, such as potions or spells or some very VERY useful items that can help beat a higher up level that is impossible otherwise. So don't give up just keep trying things - there seems to always be a way to move forward if you stick with it.

I would recommend this as it has given enough enjoyment to do so but it is with reservations. It is a good word game but it is not a great one. Great ones would be Letter Quest or God of Word. I am a fan of most of what this dev has done but this game is a little grindy in ways that the others manage to make work.
Despite the grindiness, the design of the game is fairly good. I like the "replay level with full health at end to get a star" and the endless dungeon is an okay feature. The only real annoyance is the game's obsession with palindromes, especially in the quests of the dungeon endgame.
If you really like word games, like I do, then get it. If you only want to dabble in them try one of the others I have mentioned first.
The core mechanic is alright: find anagrams quickly out of a set of ten tiles. I wish the dictionary was less restrictive. I also wish the tiles, which appear to come in hard-coded sets of ten, always had the courtesy of including a 10-letter word.
The first 99 floors of the tower are cute. The elemental abilities and unlocks give enough variety and progression to keep it interesting. A smidge more enemy variety might have been nice.
The endgame after that 99 is where everything falls apart. To beat the tower boss, you'll need to grind for hours, resort to using an anagram solver, or most likely both. To beat the dungeon boss, you have to slog through 500 (!) more rooms (100 floors x 5 rooms each). Each dungeon room has randomized challenges - so random, in fact, that they may ask you to create words starting with H, and then give you a tileset with no H, forcing a restart and wasting even more time. Even if you were able to clear through the first 99 tower floors and all their star challenges with ease, the game will grind to a halt here.
I really prefer games that end because they are finished over games that end because they grow boring. I want to leave a game having fond memories of it and with some sense of closure. Spellspire misses that mark.

Any individual aspect of this word game is competently done. The connective tissue fails to ensnare players before the loops become shallow as the grind becomes obvious.
This is a fun game, There are a few words that it doesn't recognise and some "words" that aren't words that it does. However, it is still extremely fun for those who enjoy puzzle games of this variety. The quest to the top of the tower and the journey into the night are enjoyable. Bosses can be tough if you haven't powered up or only make 3 - 4 letter words.
There are a variety of hats and armour you can wear for special effects and also a selection of wands to tailor your play style. Only the final boss forces the choice of wand upon you, otherwise you are good to use whatever you prefer.
After completion of the main quest up the tower, you get to face challenges in the depths below, this adds longevity to the game that already has 100 levels.
Create words from a group of letters. Meh, it's been done before. They try to spruce it up by have the words kill monsters in a side scroller, but it just another puzzle where you create words from a group of letters. I can get that in the newspaper.
Fun, simple word game that mixes in role-playing elements and a lot of humour.

Not the best word game. This one is difficult. And I mean difficult. I had to start grinding at level 10, and there are 100 levels plus a dungeon! Every 10 levels or so there is a boss. I don't think I've ever defeated a boss on the first try or even the second. But by grinding you get more money so you can upgrade your gear. Also there is a bonus Star you can get by replaying a level with the monsters 10% faster and you have to finish with full health for you don't get the bonus. Some equipment only unlocks if you have so many stars. And the equipment allows you to play in different ways. Some wands have poison damage along with regular damage. Others have fire, freeze for short time, and health drain. The defensive items have different bonuses: anyone who attacks you is poisonsed and you are immune to poison, same with burn. One increase the chance of getting item drops from monsters. Oh, I guess I better talk about that. Sometimes a good item will drop from a monster such as healing potions, spell books (one time use long word spelled for you to use), scrolls to poison, burn, or magic damage. You keep these in your backpack. You start with only one slot to keep one item but you can purchase and upgrade to the backpack which lets you have up to four slots.
For me this game is only played in short burts otherwise I get too frustrated or bored. I am gradually making progress but it is slow. Once you get done with the tower then you enter the never-ending dungeon (though it does have floors and objectives to do). I really like the dungeon part. You are given some objectives like defeat 6 eneimes in a row or defeat 2 enemies using palandromes. Once you have completed 5 sets of these objectives you descend to the next floor. You get more every time you complete a set of objectives. Which means even if you didn't get very far on one run you might do better the next time. Though you will at one point either die or run out of words to spell. Once all your equipment has been bought and upgraded you can use your money to upgrade your base attack and base health.
Every day I play this game, because they give you free gold (every 8 hours--it counts down the times) or free item if your backpack is not full. I do a few dungeon runs, upgrade my attack or health, and then quit. I hear eventually I'll reach a low floor of the dungeon and face a special dragon!
tldr:
Pros:
1. It's a word game, spell fast or you die!
2. A game to play in short spurts
3. The variety of equipment means you can play how you like (freeze, burn, or poison enemies)
4. Graphics are cute.
5. Every 8 hours you get a free treasure chest that gives you money or choice of scroll, book., or health potion.
Cons:
1. Grinding, grinding, lots of grinding
2. OCD nightmare: lots of equipment, not enough money, which equals grinding
3. The soundtrack is always the same and get annoying after awhile. (by now I can tune it out)
4. I suspect this was a phone/tablet game and it had in-game buying which made it easier (I have no proof)
UPDATE: 75 hours into the game and still haven't finished it! So achievement hunters beware, this won't be a quick and easy achievement game. I'm near the end though. I'll update my number of hours once I'm finally done with all achievements. Might have to do some grinding, though.
Easy to learn, practice to master. Get the monster book, pay attention to what type of damage which is weak to what.

DIFFERENT FROM LETTER QUEST
With Letter Quest and Bookworm, you can take your time to think about your next word or action. Here, monsters attack while you are thinking! So gameplay is frantic instead of contemplative.
GRINDING
I didn’t have to replay fully completed levels. It helps to have resource management skills, spending gold wisely. You can go back and forth between climbing the tower and gaining challenge stars. If that’s not enough, but you don’t like grinding, then maybe you could replay levels to get a couple potions or other items, not just gold. When you reach the top of the tower but can’t kill the boss yet, there’s another area to play and progress in quests while gaining resources.
GOOD QUALITY
For me Spellspire is one of the best word games on Steam. My other favorites are Letter Quest, Highrise Heroes, and Lexica.
This actually better than I expected :) Cool little game and quite challenging for not native English speaker, sometimes with letters I got wasn't that hard other times I was able to put together couple short words before I died, still fun to play :)
These guys obviously played 'Letter Quest' before (and probably BookWorm as well). This is basically the same, except comparatively with an inferior soundtrack, even less story, and pay-to-win mechanics derived from its obvious mobile phone port origins. Since you can't actually pay here, you'll have to grind quite a bit (or use a word solver to go through most of the floors unharmed, which I don't usually condone but here it simply turns the game into a typing game, which isn't bad either per se.)
I'd have appreciated if the game didn't have a timer because, let's be honest, there are enough mechanics here to enjoy the game without it. For instance, how about being able to postpone a monster attack when you use a 5+ letter word or something? The latter levels (especially levels 90 and 100 for some reason) all require you to use a word solver to go through the heaps of hitpoints in there. Meh.
Honestly, I'd only recommend playing the first third of the game normally because it's at least is doable without grinding for HP and attack points. After that-- word solver and typing game approach is the way to enjoy it. I know I did.
Apart from that, being a big Letter Quest fan (I, ahem, finished it 4 times...), I can only applaud games that attempt to remake it (even though it was itself a remake), so I wouldn't consider this a failure. Actually, best part of the game: the description for the hobgoblin, sorry, snob goblins: "he likes dungeons because they're so underground".
I really enjoyed this game but i am a weirdo that enjoys playing word games, it can be a little annoying at times when you hit the dungeons and you have to kill a certain amount of enemies using letters starting with certain letters because for some reason you aren't guarenteed to get that letter so you have to reset until you do but apart from that i had a lot of fun with it.
This games dictionary is lacking in a considerable number of words.
Why would you play a vocabulary game that doesn't know all the words?
Decent Game thus far, but I'm torn between realling giving it an up vote or down vote, since there is no middle vote. The Game is Fun and Entertaining, it also helps pass the time, but my Qualms with this game are the fact that it is more of a Grind-Fest than anything else, but my major downside to this game is the Dictionary that is implemented. There are words in it that I have never even really heard of, or words that don't even look like words at all, but the Biggest issue, is the Dictionary that is used in the coding of this game is severely lacking, I've typed in lots of words, that have been known to be words, even simpler words in the Dictionary but are not in this Game.
Pros: Fun Game, Something to Pass the Time, interesting ways to make a plan amongst the items you can gain. Simple game to pick up easily and play
Cons: Grind-fest, Lack of a Proper Dictionary instilled in the game. Dungeon needs better Optimization for Quests and what gets Randomized in those levels to help you complete the quest. Also too many Palindrome Quests in the Dungeon!!
Conclusion: I would recommend this game, for something quick to play and to pass the time, but beyond that I'm stuck in the mixed ground wheter to give it a thumbs Up or Down since those are the only 2 options.

Fun little word game that has some frustrations (some legitimate words aren't in this game's dictionary, there's no display of how much damage your word will do - all monster health bars are the same size regardless of their actual hp - so you can waste good words on trash monsters and not have them for big baddies, the dungeon levels will sometimes give you tasks impossible to complete without resetting, like kill x monsters with palindromes and then give you a tileset that won't let you make any palindromes, etc.). If you're willing to forgive those - and I am - there's a great deal of fun here. I do wish there were a few simple UI tweaks, though, like one to take you directly to the next monster instead of waiting for your hero to slo-o-o-o-owly walk there.
I haven't 100% beaten this game yet, and I'm writing a review, WHY might you ask? This is simple, this game is rather large for what is appears to be. The game starts you at the bottom of a 100 floor tower. Not that much, well each floor also has a trial which requires you to beat it at full health.
This will easily take you 5-7 hours depending on your proficiency with the english language. However on floor 100 is a red dragon. Which curb stomps you with utter ease. After fighting it you unlock the dungeons. Where you are given 3 random (?) tasks and are given 1k + 100 (per each set of 3 tasks you complete) times like 20/25 this is used to beef up your character enough to beat the dragon.
Needless to say I'm on the 3rd floor of the dungeons, and to get enough to beat the dragon you need to get up into like the 50's or 60's to stand a chance. So this game is very much a good investment on price over how much time you get out of it.
Fun little game if you enjoy anagram/word games like the classic "Text Twist." The equipment system and the "stars" for replaying past levels helps ensure that you aren't stuck on any level for TOO long. I also enjoyed the added strategy of *when* you use each word: if a four letter word will finish off a monser, shooting off a seven letter word instead is a huge waste of damage and can certainly get you into trouble on the more difficult levels. After you beat the dragon at the top of the tower, the "endgame" becomes a grind if you want to clear levels in the dungeon, defeat the second dragon, and unlock all the achievements (way too much of a grind for me).
Overall, I feel it is definitely worth the $2.50 to $5 (USD) price during a sale for someone like me who periodically enjoys this type of game.

Neutral. Before you read more, just know my vote is neutral. It's not the best word game on steam and it's not the worst. It's just kind of okay to be honest.
The upgrade system is ♥♥♥♥. They want you to grind like an addict to get enough gold to upgrade the later things and that's where i quit to be honest. It's boring. Grinding in and of itself is just not my style. I like to do the "grind" to get higher up on the tower or to see how far I can get in the dungeon, but the grind to just make gold to actually be able to touch the final boss, that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lame.
You only get ten letters to choose from, as you can see, and sometimes the level is over before it starts because it gave you 4 E's or A's and you can't really do ♥♥♥♥ with that. I think the dev should try to implement some system in to catch that. I'm not asking for an S and E+D every time but some sort of system needs to be put in place to stop the jank that is quad letters.
The graphics are cute and the music is simple and not over bearing.
$10 seems like a lot, but to be fair there is a good amount of playability. It's just repetitive playability. Maybe $8 would be perfect for people who don't mind grinding. I'd say $10 if they fixed the issues I listed above.
Really nifty game. I spent a lot more time on it than I was expecting.
tldr: If you like speed anagramming from a fixed pool of letters it is a good bet you will like this.

I was almost disuaded by the highly ranked negative review and I am glad I got this game despite that. I really don't understand some of the criticism leveled at it, as far as I can tell you always have plenty of words to defeat the level; when I finish I don't think I have ever had less than 100 unfound words and I wouldn't be surprised if it was never less than 200 (the game tells you). If I failed a level usually all I needed was to find 1-3 of those words - hardly an impossible challenge. The review also made me expect to lose a lot of progress by randomly being dealt impossible letters - certainly I am sometimes dealt difficult letters, but the levels are what? 1 minute each?
I got this game in part because it looked like bookworm adventures (popcap), which I was fond of. I don't find it as good, but still, it has some of that charm.
One thing that may make this game much worse for many people is that it appears to be balanced for someone like me - someone with at least a moderate scrabble vocabulary. This is very different than having a good vocabulary, because it relies on using words that are in the dictionary but aren't really used. Like aas. Computer word games generally are much too easly for me because they are balanced for real vocabulary and someone with this artificial category dominates it. I can well imagine that someone who just likes anagramming and has even an excellent vocabulary but hasn't learned a bunch of the stupid 'scrabble' words would have to grind too much.
This is also very reliant on speed - which many people playing word games are not as keen on.
So: If you like fast anagramming and have a reasonable scrabble vocabulary - you will almost certainly like this. If you like word games but don't want the stress of a speed experience, steer clear. If your scrabble vocabulary is weak you might need to grind more than you want to; for you then it would depend whether you like the challenge level of the grind. A grind is only bad if you don't like the underlying activity, if you like it then it is "playing the game".
I wish I had known:
Use the keyboard, not the mouse. I think it would be impossible to play this for long with the mouse. You can access your power ups with '1', '2', '3, etc.
You can't earn stars the first time you play a level no matter how well you do. You must play it a second time against slightly stronger monsters - and often have to finish it without taking any damage.
Developers: If you develop this further it would be great to have a 4+ letter word mode. I wouldn't want this mode to necessarily be harder so it would need rebalancing, it is just a drag to slog through the three letter words every time, I would rather have a bit more time and be forced to find longer words.
Fun spelling game, though there are times when you have to go back just to gear up enough to move forward. Unless you get a lucky set of letters that you can just rock.
Ignore the haters. This game is legit.

It's hard to say I recommend this game at it's asking price of $10. But, with that said, I waited for a sale, because I just had a feeling this would be a great game I would enjoy, and something different than my current library offers. It's Great!. I got it for $2.99 and I am quite happy with that price. I consider myself pretty good at spelling, and the game picks up difficulty pretty quickly as you get going, and soon, you will realize there is even more to it than just spelling. Item management and upgrading can be the key to win a tough, close round. There is plenty of strategy even, so long as you manage your Letter/(spell) pool to your advantage. Something tells me as i get further, this will be more important than just spamming any words you see when you see them. You get different equipment and can upgrade your Hats, Robes, and Wands, each bit of equipment coming with different effects. Whats good about this though, is old equipment doesn't immediately obsolete by unlocking the newer gear, like in most fantasy games. There is strategic ways you can use their effects in a mixed set. I recommend this game to anyone who likes games like boggle, or spelling games in general, but especially to those that enjoy fantasy based games, because it also does quite well with those aspects, and ties the two together in a pretty seamless and fun manner. Quite addictive. And over 200 levels to play with tough bosses on each 10th floor. Definitely what I was hoping for out of this game. It was a great idea.
EN: wish there was a multiplayer vs and/or co-op mode though, would make it that much better!

It's exactly what it is advertised to be. A "how many words can you make" game with an RPG and timing gimmick. It's very similar to the old Bookworm Adventures game from PopCap, which is not a bad thing.
You're given a set of 10 pseudo-randomly generated tiles that you will use to make words. Your character marches from the left of each level towards the right, stopping whenever he reaches a new enemy. A timer starts at the same time, indicating when the enemy will attack. A good vocabulary and decent typing speed will help you kill enemies before they can attack. The longer your words, the more damage you'll do.
You obviously can't use the same word twice on a level (that would make beating the enemies fairly trivial). Part of the challenge is saving the longer words that you think of for the most powerful enemies on a level so that you don't have to resort to wimpy, 3-letter attacks.
As you progress you'll earn gold and items that you use to buy upgrades to your gear. Each piece of gear has special abilities. One of the early unlocks is a monster guide that you can use to examine the strengths and weaknesses of the enemies on each level, helping you to choose the gear that will do the most damage to the toughest opponents.
If you get stuck (and you probably will) you can replay old levels to earn stars (which unlock more gear), and gold (which you can use to upgrade the gear you have). It can feel a little grindy, especially at the beginning when there aren't many levels to go back and play so you end up playing the same levels 5 or 10 times to grind out gold. The game is pretty good about generating different tile sets, though, so you'll be racing to come up with new words even on replays.
Definitely a fun game.
Oh boy oh boy, a word game with a sprinkle of dungeon crawler where I fling as many words as I can come up with at hordes of fantasy enemies! Right? Well, sort of.
First is the battle system. You get ten letter tiles per dungeon and those letters aren't used up or able to be switched out for the entire dungeon. Get a glut of consonants and not many vowels? Sucks to be you, have fun getting halfway through the dungeon and then be unable to come up with any more words. Oh, and each word can only be used once, barring plurals or verbs. So you can use the word "saw" and you can also use the words "sawed" and "saws". The length of a word determines its power and by association your ability to get through the dungeon. So a bad set of letters means you're screwed from the get-go. Not really the free-form word-slinging dungeon crawl I was expecting.
Next is the equipment system. As you ascend the tower you unlock new wands, robes, and hats with their own special abilities. Each of these is able to be upgraded as well, a necessity as you find enemies who hit harder than you can withstand or are resistant to the damage of your best wand. By itself this is fine, even welcome, but where it loses my favor is how the necessary gold needed is not even close to the amount you earn by progressing. You can re-do a previous floor for a Challenge Reward but you can only get each Reward once per floor. So sure, you can earn 3,000 gold on your first clear of a Challenge but if you go back to that same floor you get maybe 400 gold per pass. Oh, and that new wand costs 22,000. Get grinding. You can of course opt to sell the items sometimes dropped on a floor, but each one where I'm at on Floor 37 sells for either 75 or 150 gold. Yeah, really raking in the dough there.
Either of these problems alone probably wouldn't be an issue. If I could choose my words I could speed clear floors for gold and have fun doing it. If I could redo Challenge floors I could deal with the limited board. But when you combine them both you have entire floors where unless you are a human dictionary you are doomed from the get-go even after spending your time farming a colossal amount gold to upgrade your wand once. Ramming your head against enemies again and again and again.
It's not like my vocabulary is small. I write as a hobby and people seem to consider it to be pretty good. Left to my own devices I can construct a plethora of words at 72 per minute last I was officially tested. And that was just typing what was in front of my face. When I'm writing on my own I get much faster. None of that meant anything to this game though and it seemed less like it was testing my typing/writing abilities and a lot more on how many words I could pick out of a limite pool within a short time frame repeatedly.
Perhaps others will like this game more than I did, but personally I am not recommending this game. There's got to be better ones out there. The bar's not especially high.
This is a fun, cute way to kill time. It's like Scrabble and Boggle, but infinitely more stressful. The gameplay isn't too hard to get the hang of, and the art is super-cute.
I really like the gameplay. I'm up to a boss that does 4x my health in damage so I'm not really sure what I'll do about that. I'll replay the levels for stars and see what happens.

While it's fun to test your vocabulary, the early game is quite easy even for the most inept of typists. The difficulty quickly escalates from there—no pun intended—as more powerful monsters are added to the mix that will require you to save your larger words for later. In order to contend with the growing monster threat, you can equip your character with wands, robes, and hats—everything a wizard needs to succeed. Other than those light RPG elements, there’s no leveling up or stats to manage.
Each piece of equipment can be upgraded with the gold you win from defeating monsters and completing levels.

Stages are quick, taking no more than a couple of minutes at most. In the beginning, the levels feel a bit too easy with how quickly each level is over. As you progress, each floor will become longer and will require you to spell more words faster. However, there are elemental effects for each outfit that will factor into how much damage you do to monsters. It's somewhat turned based as you have a timer. Once the timer runs out, you will be attacked by the enemy and the timer resets.
The music is not grating, but it won’t be something you remember as it plays on a constant loop. The game’s aesthetic is cute and cartoony, which gets the job done without pushing any GPU limitations.
Just some feedback for the devs to include quality of life:
It is difficult to remember what you typed and it would be nice to see a list of words that you have already used. There is also no way to quick clear for deleting words that are already typed, forcing you to waste time by backspacing.

Cute graphics, addicting gameplay, and really cool Twitch integration feature. It has enough RPG elements to keep the game fresh throughout the many levels. Admittedly "spelling RPG" is a small genre, but this is the best of its kind.
Easy to learn, practice to master. For now I'm stuck finding at most 4 letter words, but there are many possibilities available.
Get the monster book, pay attention to what type of damage which is weak to what.

Great game. Easy to understand interface, interesting escalation of challenges. Sometimes the difficulty of the levels seems a little out of order. The system for playing through beaten levels for better upgrades works well. It feels exciting and takes all of your focus.
Spelltastic! This is great for young children and helping them to learn while making it fun. Not to mention that the graphics are fun and the music and sound effectsa are not annoying. My boy surely will play again!

Plot/Overview: Spell words, defeat the monsters, collect gold, and get to the top of the tower. This is a port of the andriod/iOS version of the game, with the ads and monitization removed.
Menus: The menus are laid out pretty simple, seperate sliders for music and sound. As well as lots of resolution choices, all the way up to 4k. The shop is where the RPG elements come in, you buy permanent upgrades for your wizard, these range from staves and robes, to hats and extra bag space.
Music/Sound: The music is nice, but gets repetitive after a while. The sounds are cartoony, mostly popping noises.
Gameplay: The gameplay loop is that you're given 10 random letters on each level, and you must spell words with at least 3 letters. The more letters, the more damage you do. Enemies attack based on a timer that is represented in the middle of the screen.
There are two main ways to unlock upgrades, clearing higher levels of the tower and earning stars for replaying levels and completing the challenge. The gold you earn for clearing levels and defeating monsters is used to buy and upgrade unlocked equipment. Most monsters can have a resistance and weakness to certain elements, which is where the difficulty can come in, if you bring the wrong weapon for a boss, you'll lose. The game will make you replay levels for gold however unless you're really lucky. As well as every 8 hours you're given a chest with your choice of one of three things, usually gold and two comsumables.
Controls: The controls as simple, use the keyboard to type the words out, and press enter to attack. The menus are completely mouse driven. There is also controller support but I feel it will hinder a game based around typing.

Pros:
- Langzeitspaß beim Wörterraten durch Upgrades
- RPG-Feeling durch Schere-Stein-Papier-System
- Sehr viele Level
Contra:
- Leider nur auf Englisch verfügbar
Fazit: 8/10 Punkten
Spellspire kombiniert RPG-Elemente mit einem Wortsuchspiel a la Scrabble und tut dies ziemlich gut. Es macht Spaß, seine Figur weiter auszurüsten und mit verschiedenen Taktiken zu hantieren, um die Schwächen seiner Gegner auszunutzen. Lediglich die ausschließlich vorhandene englische Sprache macht es für deutsche Spieler schwerer, sich diesem Spiel hinzugeben.
