Blast space pirates out of the sky like an 80s arcade game except... you're actually in the game in a 3D world. You get a shield, weapon options, power ups, different game modes, and more.
Banger music, guns go pew pew, and space pirates that you need to save the universe from. What more could you want?
Tip - If you have a Rift S or similar headset you will likely want to go into Steam settings and disable haptics for this game. Due to the Rift S design, your headset tracking has to compete for the same USB bandwidth which can cause the tracking issues/frame stutters that other people are mentioning in comments.

A VR classic
game is kind of just a lame rail shooter. I don't get all the positive reviews. Its pretty but your just fighting generic robots.
It's a solid shooting gallery which is worth playing. Unfortunately after 20 minutes it become pretty annoying, but still an interesting experience if you see it on sale.

I needed to scratch a VR itch that I couldn't reach, so I purchased this again after having played it many years ago on my oculus rift. A full body VR experience with an epic boss battle. Still holds up all these years later.

My overall review of Space Pirate Trainer VR…
Space Pirate Trainer remains one of the most effective pure arcades in VR: tight, physical, and endlessly replayable for score hunters, but limited if you’re after long campaigns, narrative depth, or couch‑friendly play.
__No Tutorial – This was a big issue for me. Other then more possible graphics changes in the settings, not having a proper tutorial I think is a big miss. I started the game spending a while just to figure out who to change different ammo types, how to get the shield, different shield types, etc… Would have been nice just to have a quick one-minute tutorial.
__Graphics – I wish there were more settings options for this game. Most of the graphics feel that they are not as polished or varied as big-budget VR action games, which I thought this could be on par for but some of the textures (especially the flying ball) just look almost too dull.
__ Relatively Simple Formula — Can get repetitive, core mechanics (wave shooting, endurance) can feel repetitive compared with deeper VR shooters or narrative titles.
__Room-Scale — I would same for some of the game play you could play on a mat, but for most and maybe even in all, I’d really recommend a larger playing area, (maybe 8’ x 8’). I know for some people having this large of a play Arena are impractical for many users.
__Limited long-form content — while highly replayable, it lacks a substantial single-player campaign or varied mission structure that some players want. I wish there was some more level progression or expansion as you play. Like maybe you unlock more weapon options as you play? Just an idea.
Turn it on, hit play and have fun. The better you get the higher the score, the more the fun.
Works fine in a small space, but I imagine a large space would be a blast.

NO, I haven't played this for seven hours! I was stuck trying to work it and haven't played it at all. just sits stagnat eating up time but no playing!
Gerade bei VR Einsteigern eigentlich besonders zu Empfehlen. Einfaches Spiel bei dem die VR Tiefe aber auch die Wechsel zwischen den Waffen Typen Pistole (mit einigen unterschiedlichen Schüssen) oder Energie Stab (mit Schildfunktion oder Energie Peitsche). Die unterschiedlichen Levels ermöglichen mit ein bisschen Übung auch langfristig Spielspaß.
A VR Staple
Uno dei giochi più divertenti che abbia provato in VR. Quando rallenta tutto e bisogna schivare i proiettili mentre si è circondati da nemici è come essere dentro Matrix. Ottimo anche per fare esercizio fisico, anche se non consiglio di giocarlo d'estate ^^'

If you are playing VR, this is a must play.
SPT is a really nice arcade shooter, and it does deserve its high praise. however, i really can't recommend it to people without a WMR or Vive headset. weapon switching uses a radial menu locked to joysticks/trackpads on the Oculus Touch and Valve Index, and since the Index has rectangular trackpads, you are forced to use the sticks.
everything else is fine, but it needs alternate controls(like being able to hold a button and shift to a particular zone).
Really mid.

I bought this game over eight years ago. I was going through my VR library to see what games I had played, and what I hadn't. Saw this game only had about 30 mins of play. Figured I'd give it another go, as I remembered it positively from the early days of VR.
The game seems to have changed a bit, IIRC. Seems to be a bit more fleshed out. It's definitely fun. Cool weapons, defensive options, and power ups. There are four different modes to play. I went through one round of each, just to see what they are. They are pretty much the same, some easier, some much harder.
The graphics in the game are pretty good for how old the game is, pretty good in general actually. Probably better than some modern games. Though it's all robots, space, and lasers, so hard to screw up.
The game is definitely worth playing for a bit. I can only spend so much time in a wave shooter if there isn't a bit more to it, so I only played for another 30 minutes or so. It's a great way to introduce someone to VR though, as there is no locomotion, and you could even play seated, since as far as I could tell, you don't have to look behind you. Though, I guess in an office chair you could spin if that were the case. But, a good party game or introduction for new people. Didn't interest me enough to play it much more than that.
Full price is a bit much for me, given what I got out of it. Half price is fair for me. Got 1.1 hours out of it, it's fun, and now it'll sit in my library to one day be a potential demo for someone.
one of the first VR experiences i ever had was playing this on vive at an event, this is so easy to pick up and play, very fun arcade-style experience

I just bought this again, as I had no idea it was on Steam ... I got all the way through it a couple years ago on Quest 2 standalone. Boy, the PCVR version is so epically much better visually, and sounds better too!
One question I can't seem to find the answer to is how to turn off the hit scores. I don't play for points, I play for fun, to blast waves of droids. THe scores popping up all over the pace when they explode is distracting and annoying. How to fix?

It's a good game that is well fleshed out for the type of game it is.
It holds up pretty well considering it's age. I'd say it's well worth full price,
but if you can get it on sale, that's even better.

This is the game that made me buy a VR system. Played it in a mall and went directly to the store. Feels like being inside Galaga. You shoot drones with a variety of handguns, with laser-bats and transparent shields for defense. Buy it!

Great party game and a must have for any VR setup.
I still play this kind of VR arcade game on a regular basis, really well designed and works well with my HP Reverb G2. I like the graphics, the environment and all weapons, the combat is pure fun and rewarding increased difficulty. The fog effect would be lovely but I keep it disabled as it's blurry and not properly blended in the environment. I wish there were more combat platforms or environments to choose from instead of only one, nevertheless I definitely recommend this game, a must have!

A really fun game in VR, where you shoot drones with your blasters. Really hard to master but worth a buy!
Very Good Game.
A simple and fun little VR shooter that works well with the hardware. Worth a few bucks on sale and fun to come back to once a year or so but very simplistic. Expect a couple hours of fun and maybe to challenge some friends to get a high score. I think of it more like an arcade game, 15-30 minutes of playtime for your quarter then you walk away till you go back to said arcade a few months later. Worth it if you go in expecting that kind of experience.
What it does it does pretty well... unfortunately there is very little of it. There are a couple different modes but they're basically the same thing (it's just do you want to die after 3 hits, 1 hit, or slowly regenerate health). You stand in the same spot and shoot drones that appear while dodging their fire. That's it. There are some upgrades and you do get some different enemies, but the basic gameplay stays the same and after 15 minutes I already felt like the game was just repetitive and pointless. No real progression, just play to improve your hiscore.
Maybe if you really like arcade games and getting better at shooting and dodging you might enjoy it, but I'd give it a pass. I'm sure in 2017 this was cool, but nowadays I wouldn't bother.
This game is old now, but it's still a good go-to game when you want to stick a VR headset on someone and say "THIS IS WHAT VR FEELS LIKE!"

This was the first free game that we received when we got our VR. It is still one of the best free games that you can get if you are new to VR!

this game is consistently the most fun I've had in VR. the sound design and music is perfect and it feels so good to hit that bullet time and bob and weave through the bullet hell. it might hold your attention for long bouts but it's always a load of fun to pick up and play a few rounds.

Honestly still a lot of fun! Just need a lot of space to move around.
One warning though: If you use the normal pistol that shoots at whatever speed you can pull the trigger, it will make your trigger finger sore FAST since there's no limit to it. Also if you're worried about the long term effects of using the trigger of your device, doing this might make it stop working faster.
This game is fun, but also kind of boring.
this game i really cool. the only reason i did not recomend it is becuase it doesnt work with the ocules. i played this game on my brothers vive and it was awesome. but now i only have an ocules and cant play it. if devs read this, please make it compatable with ocules.

Makes you feel like a badass, the awesome gunplay coupled with.. a freaking energy sword and shield. This game is brilliant arcade shooting like no other.
This was pretty good a few years ago when the VR was mostly wave shooters. I don't think I can recommend this anymore because it's basically just the arcade light gun games with the added ability of dodging shots.
Great shooting mechanics, cool powerups, sick soundtrack, and overall a good game.
But as others have said, it's a simple wave shooter with no progression, no variety, and no real reason to play other than to beat your own highscore.
Really fun game I use air link or steam link mainly to play my steam vr games it has worked good I gonna get a ethernet cable for my pc to see I can make my vr better.
Must have for VR. That's all there really is to say on this one.

Great VR Shooter, could use some new content to refresh it. Features from the Oculus (DX) version would be great for the Steam VR version.

I enjoy the space invaders vibe while practicing shooting and being able to duck and move from shots--- warning may give u the false sense that you can dodge bullets in real life...... you cant! or maybe u can, i cant hahaha
