Don't get me wrong, the gameplay is great. Taito did a great job of updating this classic with interesting new mechanics.
However...
I thought the obligatory online connection was there in order to get track of high scores ? Wrong, because most of the times my scores don't register at all, and it seems I'm not the only one to experience this.
How could they mess up the main reason of playing this otherwise great game ?

Please add an online only tag to this game because no where in the description does it say that. The game was s great and fun, but I bought it to play on my steam deck while on the go as in offline. Imagine my surprise to find out that the single player game is online only. one of my uplifiting casual arcade but manic games like pac man dx champion edition.

its more like rez and space invaders had a baby there are times rather than just blast all invaders in any order the game makes you do timmed and skill shots for depth for chasing a good score.

If you like darius for chaining scores mixed with music rythum mildly (.fever! so much fun when you can nail the shot. also has a free demo.

Here what i don't think you should buy it
- Elilipsy or strobe induced sieures this is not for you
- game will not load if you arent connected online so to upload scores.

buy on on discount as there arent many levels but thats not a problem, game is hard, and its a casual 20min time. good fun.

No where in the description does it say that you have to always have an internet connection to play this game. And since i waited too long to actually play it. I can't get refunded so F me i suppose. The game is good there's no doubt about it and i love the music. I know this cause i have the DS version already.

If you're going to play on a device that will always have a network connection go nuts, buy the game you won't regret it.

シリーズ通しての悪口になりますが、ボス戦がつまらないです。ボス戦、テストプレイして楽しかったでしょうか？　ボスステージオンリーの詰め合わせでこのゲームをプレイしたらどう思うでしょうか？あと金色UFO墜とした時のボーナスの導入判定ステージですが、DS版の様に簡単にはフィーバータイムに入らない設計になっていますね？　そういう楽しい機会を減らすのもよくないと思います。

このゲームはクリアできて楽しいとかいうゲームではなく、どれだけうまくHitをチェインさせてどれだけハイスコアを稼げるか？　そういうゲームでいいと思います。クリアするしないだけがゲームの目的ではないと思います。爽快感を売りにしたゲームなども必要だと思います。時に最近のSTGは弾幕避けが主流になっていて初見の人は初見であきらめてしまう人も多いと思います。

そういうのをスペースインベーダーエクストリーム２は新しい提案をした素晴らしいゲームだと思っていたので、この作品は集大成だと勝手に想像し、期待をし過ぎていました。自分の目論見違いなので逆恨みではありますが、裏切られたという気持ちでいっぱいなので正当な評価はできていないと思いますがこれは正直な気持ちです。

タイトーさんはかなり好きなメーカーなので期待が裏返って感情をぶつけてしまいました。それは反省しています。

This retro bullet hell game simply grows on you with it's simple yet rewarding mechanics and who doesn't want to relive a magic moment with Space Invaders that I once played on a monochrome Toshiba laptop?!

Since back then the game has stayed pretty much the same with added power-ups, boss fights, difficulty ladders and an online leaderboard to go with a nice reactive soundtrack. Controls are of course as easy as it gets and works best with keyboard over controller option. Maybe not great for longevity but still sweet in short bursts and a game that you can always pick up or come back to.

I changed my recommendation because this is an EXTREME game - not a casual game.
Need very fast responses and a fast controller to get through level 3A. I cannot do it. My controller and my reaction time do not give me the ability to destroy the boss for that level before it re-forms and I have to start the boss scene over again.
Thus, a lot of the game is permanently locked out for me. I can have fun with it, but limited fun. Too bad I can't get around an 80% refund because that is a guess of how much of the game I cannot play.

This has gotta be the best way to Space Invaders out there. Infinity Gene on Xbox is great as well, but damn, did I have a rough time playing through it.

I mean, the classic gameplay mixed with the music, rhythmic flow of the sounds, the power-ups, bonus rounds, fever, bosses... just YES.

Great first impression from the first two stages, leaves me wanting more every time I grind the 5-stage run.

You'll most likely get more value for money on a sale, but this game is fun stuff alright, regardless of the price you pay for it.

Don't be surprised if it works, but you might wanna avoid playing this otherwise excellent twist on the arcade classic on your Steam Deck or any of its competitors because of Taito/Komodo's ridiculous decision to implement an internet requirement only upon launch. All those machines were made for portable gaming, making that inconvenient decision age worse than milk, especially since it's also on the Nintendo Switch and playable offline there. Just play it on Switch instead through the Invincible Collection.

Very Fun!

The game has a very amazing OST! And is basicly a constant storm of dopamine with all of the flashing colors and effects. The laser, broad, and bomb powerups are all fun to use.

The game may seem easy at first but it gets pretty challenging at around stage 3-4. You will also be tested during the bonus stages (when shooting down the rainbow UFOs.)

The bosses are very creative and can be quite challenging.

A once offline game is now online-only, and talk about no multiplayer modes on this one compared to the original 2008 version on PSP (Local VS Mode), Nintendo DS (Online/Local VS Mode) and Xbox 360 (Online/Local Co-Op and Online/Local VS Modes).

I will admit it's nice to hear the original Nintendo DS Zuntata tracks in HD, the new tracks in Stages 5-B and 5-C are rather welcome, I just wish there was an option to switch these two stages in particular back to their original DS tracks but this time in HD as well.

I remember playing this on the go and being a time burner while on the road on my DS. Sadly playing on the steam deck with this game's always-online requirement bars you from doing so, unless you have mobile data with you.

For Space Invaders' 40th anniversary game, this is rather sad.

左右移動と攻撃(とホールド)のみのシンプルなシューティングですが、戦略性と爽快感が手堅くまとまっていると思います。
クリアするだけならコンティニューも無制限なので初心者でも気軽に遊べます。
ハイスコアを狙おうとすると沼です。

[h2]基本的な攻略[/h2]
・画面上に存在できる弾に限りがあるので敵をよく狙って弾を発射する必要があります。オート連射もありますが使い分けが大事。
・青赤緑の敵を4連で倒すと役が成立してアイテム出現。違う色を4体ずつ倒すとレインボーUFOが登場、フィーバータイムのチャンス。
・背景のランプ(ROWとか書いてるやつ)を全て点灯させると1UP。点灯条件はゲーム内から飛べるヘルプが詳しいです。
・パワーアップはホールドできます。今撃っても仕方がないという時は温存するとお得。

[h2]細かいあれこれ[/h2]
・操作方法に反してシステムが複雑気味なので、オプションからヘルプは読んでおいた方がいいと思います。
・いくつかのレビューではDirect Inputコントローラーが使用できないとなっていますが、現在は使用できます。
・キーボードのキーコンフィグがありません。コントローラーならsteam側で制御できるのですが……。
・実績は非常に大変。時間と実力両方が必要になるでしょう。

総じて古めのゲームではありますが、その分セール対象にもなっていて空いた時間に気軽にプレイできるのでとりあえずで買ってみてもいいかもしれません。

This game is amazing! Hands down 10 out of 10. It's so much fun and I love the music. However, the side effects were a bit much for me, so I had to turn the music and sound effects down a bit. But overall, it was great and I really enjoyed it. I think we should get some friends together and add me so we can compete and try to get the highest score. I heard it was on PSP and it's a great game. I definitely recommend it and think you should buy it to bring back the classic old days kind of games. I need to practice more, but it's definitely entertaining and a lot of fun.

This game takes a bit of patience and practice but after spending enough time with it, it becomes very satisfying. It is especially satisfying getting a rank within the top 10 players or even the top couple dozen. My only real gripe here is that there is an online only DRM. While it's only a minor inconvenience for me personally, I still wish I had the option to play offline. Buy it on sale.

I grew up playing countless hours of Space Invaders Extreme for the DS. Got it on Switch, got over 100 hours on there. Now I am playing the Steam version.

This game is fantastic. It's the modern spin Space Invaders needs to thrive. The level designs, abilities, soundtrack and bosses are all amazing. There's an online leaderboard to keep you motivated and personal ranks you can achieve for each stage.

The game has an Arcade mode where you go through stages in order, takes around 30-40 minutes max. There is also freeplay mode which is being able to play the levels you've beaten before on their own.

I highly recommend this game. I hope to see more entries in this series in the future. You should also check out the DS versions if you collect for that console like I do.

If you enjoy surgically cutting up space invader attack formations and getting OCD to music that pleasingly syncs to your cannon fire.....You'll probably enjoy this.

Its decent on SD, plays flawlessly, looks like Space Invaders Extreme generally does - it doesn't really need more. What's given is functional and that is all that matters.

It does require online to even start, which is a downer. Other than that....It's still a good game.

Played for first time today. Just played the Arcade Mode. But looks promissing and good graphics and good upbeat background music. Thou at the moment, I just miss the developers to fix that bug, that many old Steam games have... If recording with Shadow Play (from NVIDIA), the game switch to background/Desktop. Also happens, when you are stopping the recording in the end. So... if one doesn't want ones Desktop, or ones Steam Library added to your Youtube video, additional video-editing has to be done. Which are annoying IMHO. But at moment, my gaming in this game are very limited to only gamed the Arcade Mode. So I don't have other beefs/complains. But hope the game also have the old school Space Invaders look in some other mode. Mostly for nostalgia, and also comparation with the differences. Thanks. Krusty

Fun twist on an old classic with a vibrant, colourful update to the traditional aesthetic. The invaders have clean and appealing sprites, they attack you on top of animated backgrounds that lead to this visually saturated action.
The game can at first be a tad demanding of your focus due to its' busy appearance, and occasional jumps in difficulty, however, with some persistence the game can easily grow on you.

I felt a strive to earn new high scores by engaging in cleaner and more deliberate gameplay. The timing of your shots can be crucial to achieve a desired result.
The game achieves a balance between frustration and satisfaction that I can respect. Of course there is a need to learn the game's mechanics to succeed, albeit not all of them are explained.

The only real issues I have with the game are a shortage of game modes and the fact that you require a connection to the internet to play this game. The only real game modes are Arcade and Freeplay Mode.
In Freeplay Mode you are allowed to play through the stages you unlocked within Arcade Mode. That's about it, which is a slight shame, especially since this port of the game does not feature multiplayer like in the original handheld versions. This can be partially forgiven as the core gameplay features enough variety to keep you entertained for a while, but with some of the achievements, it seems like you are intended to play for a much longer time than seems reasonable for what is at offer.

As for the game requiring an internet connection, it is a mild annoyance, as touched upon by other reviewers, especially since multiplayer has been stripped, thus the only online functionality required is the leaderboards.

クリアしただけながらとりあえずレビューなど。

パワーアップ要素ありボス戦ありと色々やれることが増えているものの、内容はしっかりとスペースインベーダーそのもの。現代風にアレンジを加えてもスペースインベーダーの基本を外さない、こういうのを正統進化というのでしょう。
往年のタイトーシューティング愛好家なら所々ニヤリとする要素もあり、昔のファンにも楽しんでもらいたいという気持ちがうかがえます。

Excellent. I have a few dozen hours on the DS one, this is an improvement in every way. Even has a little extra, via minigames that if you win, you get a boost, if you loose, no biggie. Wish you could save progress mid run. Its quick though.

A very juiced up version of space invaders with color-chain and invader shape bonuses, mini bonus stages in between, bossfights, you name it. Most importantly everything is happening to the beat of the music much like Rez. It's a very fun thing to pick up and play.

I love the new take on a classic game. Power-ups, bonus rounds, and boss battles are all awesome additions.
I've tested it a bit on the Steam Deck and it seems to run flawlessly, but from what I've seen from other reviews (and the system requirements) it won't run if you don't have an active internet connection.
