Hear me out, this game is interesting, and just fun, I don't think I understood the story here or the mechanics but I don't care, I would play it again, the has save points so you dont have to restart the whole game, and its pretty
Esta muy bueno
It's fun but I think it wouldn't be remembered AS fondly if it didn't have banging CD quality music, FMVs, and justify buying an expensive addon. Compared to the other sonic games of its time the levels are labrynthian sprawling messes.
great port, top of the line early sonic game thats neck and neck with sonic 3 for the best retro sonic game, if you get into this start looking into the wild amount of variations this games soundtrack has
I like this game, Shame It's longer available but I luckily got it before that.
个人认为和马里奥世界并列为16位机游戏的巅峰,从主机一路玩过来,喜欢的真的会爱不释手。
One of the best Sonic games of all time, easily. The level design takes some time to get used to, and I know they were kinda crunched on time so that's why it's kinda strange, but once you get used to it it's a lot of fun :3
Being more of a exploration type game, that is if you want the good ending, I got to appreciate the music, and sprites, and let me tell you: this game has the best Classic Sonic era aesthetics. Period. Genuinely peak Classic Sonic. The animated intro and ending/credits? It's peak, I'm telling you.
You honestly can't go wrong with either score by the way. The US score is more of a classic rock/industrial rock sound to it. Some would even say it sounds more ambient, which I'd say fits I suppose. I like the US score a lot so shout out to Spencer Nielson.
But the JP/EU score? ABSOLUTE FIRE. It's one of the best Sonic scores, period. It has a techno, pop sound that is just sooooo pleasing to listen to.
The only criticism I could give is to the bosses, which are too easy. And if I wanted to be nitpicky, the level design could have been more tightly designed. But I give the latter a pass because of what I mentioned above.
Anyways though, peak Sonic game, and aesthetically the best Classic Era game period.
Before this I only experienced Sonic CD via emulators and for some reason music was always disabled and the videos also never worked. With this release on Steam I'm able to enjoy the game's excellent music and experience the whole thing as it's supposed to work for the first time. It's great!
Sonic CD is very similar to other main-stream Sonic titles, but the time travel mechanic brings something unique not seen in subsequent Sonic games. Trying to complete the side-content requires not only finding hidden items in the levels, but you need to do that in the past, present and future versions of the level. In each level, I end up running back and forth so much that I often exceed the time limit. So I spend much more time in each level than I otherwise would. Unfortunately the quality of the level design is lower than that of other titles. The levels feel empty, enemy numbers are less and their placement is usually more of a hinderance than in other games - where you can often use their positioning to gain height and clear areas faster than you otherwise could. As a result in Sonic CD, gameplay feels much slower and less exciting than in other titles, and less memorable.
Sonic CD's music is generally good, but it's kinda mellow. I expect up-beat, "gotta-go-fast" tunes that make you feel excited. Sonic 2 and 3 are great at this. Sonic 1 & Sonic CD not so much. They each do have one or two banger tracks, but most of the time it's a little too laid back for my tastes and consequently also not as memorable.
Ultimately I play and enjoy Sonic CD because it's an old classic, it's not great even when compared to Sonic titles that came out in the same time period - you're better off with Sonic 2 & 3 - but it's the OG material that brings me back and scratches that itch for the old, classic Sonic experience. And that's a good one.
Sonic CD is a genuinely fantastic classic platformer that holds up remarkably well — the time travel mechanic, the wild level design of stages like Palmtree Panic, and the overall creative energy make it one of the best 2D Sonic games ever made. That said, I have to acknowledge the elephant in the room: SEGA delisted this and the other classic Sonic games just to push people toward the overpriced Sonic Origins collection, which is one of the most blatant anti-consumer moves I've seen from them in years. If you're lucky enough to already own this, consider yourself fortunate — you've got the superior standalone port without needing to shell out for a bloated compilation. Play it, love it, and shake your fist at SEGA for making it this hard to access a $6 classic.

This game isn't available anymore due to being part of Sonic Origins.
Story
Amy Rose is kidnapped by Eggman while he's tracking down the time stones. Sonic must rescue her, find the stones and save the little planet. Basic stuff for a game released in 1993.
Gameplay
You can complete the game without having to worry about time travel. If you want a good ending, you'll need to go to the past and destroy robot cages.
To time travel, it's about maintaining speed not how fast. And you'll find there isn't any real incentive to travel to the future. Puzzle solving isn't that complicated but there was only 1 cage I had trouble with.
Special stages are cool in concept but annoying as hell. You'll swear the hit boxes on those capsules are tiny. Thankfully reaching the special stages are easy so plenty of opportunities try again.
Design
Simple upscalers allow for some “HD” graphics while playing. Opening and closing videos are still rough and grainy from the original release. The only performance issue I had was the music cutting out some times. I wasn't able to consistently replicate the bug.
Verdict ★★★☆☆
Not one of my favourite games but a solid title. I recommend checking it out before the Sonic The Hedgehog Movie 4 releases.
The game is unavailable so my review isn't gonna do much. But check out the Sonic Origins version, I understand they fixed the issues I had plus added extra features.
