I really enjoy point and click adventure games and my first was probably Maniac Mansion on the NES so that's my baseline for enjoyment - not "1st person hidden object" games. This game was really good with its only two drawbacks I'd say are 1: the rock/boulder puzzle with the electric grid, and 2: the absolutely atrocious controls. People complain about Resident Evil's tank controls need to play this for perspective! If you enjoy adventure games and are ok with a bit of psychological horror you'll definitely enjoy this. It's an old game clearly but that means you don't need a hugely expensive GPU to run it unlike some other remakes of old 90's and earlier games which have bloated unity assets because developers are lazy now.

Old school adventure game in 2D isometric view. Cool story. Quite long (9 chapters), use a guide because it is not easy. A classic to play from 1998.
I really loved the game honestly. It progressively tells the story in this interesting and surrealistic way and it's fun when you start connecting the dots. It has a lot of foreshadowing and details everywhere.
The puzzles are great for the most part. Only a few of them were a little unclear at first and I did have to look up a small part of them, but the majority of the puzzles were pretty creative and fun to solve. I will say it was a little frustrating at times when it comes to interactions, since you have to hover over basically everything to figure out if you can either pick it up, use an item on it or generally interact with it. Despite this, I still gotta praise how well-made the gameplay was overall, at least for me personally.
Enjoyed the game more than I thought I would since I had never played the game before. I really enjoyed the story telling and puzzles within the game. Would recommend
Did have minor issues with the game crashing upon start but after about three tries the game starts up perfectly fine with no corrupted saves or issues while playing the game.

если честно, то история очень наивная, прямо в духи адвенчуры 90-ых, но это по своему имеет свой шарм - ты правда понимаешь, что видишь яркого представителя классического поинт энд клика перед собой. особенно это чувствуется в невероятно кривом управлении (спасибо, что нет софтлоков - это уже роскошный максимум для подобных импортов в стиме), ооочень медленный персонаж и несколько моментов, где тебе в непонятной массе из пикселей методом тыка надо найти те заветные три, которые каким-то образом должны обозначать для тебя квестовый предмет.
однако, несмотря на это все - я правда насладилась проектом. хоть история и наивная, она действительно затягивает (особенно по началу) - в игре запоминающийся визуал и просто гениальная работа с образами персонажей и их значениями. квестики нашли идеальный баланс - они не такие уж и сложные, чтоб заставить тебя почувствовать себя совсем тупым, но и многие из них не решаются просто по дуновению ветра. как я уже говорила выше, особенно приятно то, что возраст проекта не помешал ему выдавать все без багов и софтлоков.
но хочется все-таки заметить, что данная игра скорее для любителей жанра - если вы обожаете подобную ретро-эстетику или адвенчуру, или поинт энд клики квесты, или все сразу - Sanitarium гарантирует вам приятное убивание времени на выходных. если хотите к тому же познакомиться с классикой этого жанра - миллион из десяти, рекомендую, ставлю лайк, подписываюсь на канал, делюсь ссылкой и тд.
если вы не то чтобы фанат (да и ненавидите процентов так 30 от игры еле-еле ходить персонажем, рассматривая окружение) - для вас есть представители жанра получше, а значит - тотальный скип.
остальным - СРОООЧНО брать, пока сейчас идет хорошая скидка.
Great game, I really like how everything is playing out. The worst thing about it is the movement but that's to be expected from a late 90's point and click with mouse drag movement but man this is way better than something like "I have no mouth and I must scream".
The creativity of the game authors to make such unique puzzles is incredible. I found the puzzles were a good match for my intellect, not too easy, but not too difficult. I solved all the puzzles on my own (i did not google them or cheat in anyway). I will admit, some of the problems took me hours to solve.
Whilst I haven't finished the game yet, I know I am near the end and this has been a great game to play. I pick it up and play it for abit when I'm feeling the itch for something slow and cerebral and I feel like I've never actually.. felt the passage of time when I load back in, you can literally play this game for an hour, save, then come back to it a few weeks later and pick up from where you left off fine.

Pour un jeu de énigme, il est juste moyen. On marche beaucoup. (le personnage est lent) Les seuls puzzles amusants sont avec Max et à la fin du jeu. . En plus, il y a trop de bruit pendant les dialogues, donc on comprend mal ce que disent les personnages.

Очень понравилась вторая глава с детьми, да и все, в принципе, главы хороши и интересны. Множество любопытных загадок. Признаюсь, что частенько возникали затупы, и я подглядывала в интернетик за подсказкой - ну а что, такой и должен быть хороший квест, мозги растрясти и понять, насколько всё плохо с пониманием и логикой хд В общем, безусловно рекомендую! Got about halfway through this game before having to give up. Not because it was hard, but because it was a boring mess. This isn't one of those games that aged well. It's stuck in 1998 and doesn't look a day older. Chapter 2 is about as a good as this game got for me. The other chapters were just a slog. The character you control walks at a snails pace and every action animation takes forever to complete. Get this game on sale if you really want to play it. $13 for this garbage is robbery.

今天还看到一本书里说老作品更容易受欢迎、创作出新作品之后放一段时间再发布效果会更好的内容哈哈哈哈。不过我还真有点疑惑了，怎么感觉确实是老游戏更有味儿啊！即使把这些老游戏，跟现在最棒的一批游戏币，老游戏阵营也毫不逊色哇！
说回Sanitairum，对这个游戏的初印象来自Grim Fandango的豆瓣短评，那条短评把Grim Fandango和Sanitarium并称为1998年AVG双雄。我玩完觉得Sanitarium其实更好上手一些！游戏时长短，并且更重要的是，迷题难度和英文文本阅读难度都比Grim Fandango低不少！看来地狱级还是比人间精神病院级更可怕哇！
这次真正说回Sanitarium。Sanitarium是那种一打开你就知道它不一般的游戏，毕竟现在也玩不到这种画质的新作了。虽然Cutscene的画面跟现在的高清影像不能比（我其实是锯齿爱好者），但是镜头设计很不错，像在看《寂静岭》电影似的，一上来就很抓人。进入可操作界面后需要注意，并不是游戏卡了或者你的机器坏了，而是本作中操作主角移动使用的是鼠标右键！
提到老游戏的时候我常说，只要可以接受画风的话我多么多么推荐。但本作连画面都颇为令人惊喜，虽然不是那种你不说都看不出是老游戏的耐老像素风，但我觉得画面挺清楚的，而且细节十分丰富。Story Telling更是没话说，回忆的穿插、截然不同的场景之间的联结、角色变化等等等等。混乱、连接、拼凑，打的时候会觉得这就是未被大脑赋予规则和秩序时人类自然的思维方式哇。
剧情和场景不能剧透，那我就讲一个游戏很有趣的“虽然没必要那么做，但我们就是那么做了”的地方吧！在本作的主页面中，移动鼠标的时候人物的眼睛会跟随鼠标移动，更有意思的是，把鼠标放在Save Game、Load Game等按钮上之后，会出现被叠加了很多遍的小孩的声音，例如“Sa-Sa-Sa-Ve-Ve Ga-a-a-a-me”，很契合游戏本身的诡异氛围。
虽然看到会有评论说本作饱受诟病的是用精神分析法包装了那样一个故事，我倒觉得没什么。本来日光之下就并无新事，不管玩了多么惊艳的游戏，最终也要回到普通到甚至有时会令人厌烦的世界。把这个“现实”世界的故事，搬到游戏世界中，并让玩家感受到难忘的“现在“/”此刻“/”当下“/”瞬间“，本身已经够了不起了的。
7.5/10. Fun and sometimes surprisingly disturbing. The puzzles fall off towards the last chapters sadly. I also encountered a glitch that made it so I couldn't progress but luckily it happens early in the game so I loaded an older save. Remember to always SAVE.

Some of the puzzles felt completely impossible without a guide, but I really enjoyed this game. IMO the 2nd chapter/town level was the best out of the bunch, which was kind of sad because it's the first real puzzle. On steam sale is super worth it but I'm conflicted if I would pay full price. The menu is confusing, but the graphics and sound is in a super cool style. The plot is kind of weird and I think it's strong suit is the lack of connection between chapters, I enjoyed the inner stories more than the overarching one. Overall, as it went on it was less enjoyable but I still really liked it and would DEF recommend it to someone who likes these point and click style games.

Less of a puzzle game and more of a pixel hunt paired with repetitive dialog and THE worst world navigation ever shoehorned into a game. Should be called a walking-into-walls simulator. The story doesn't save it, the plot was obvious after the third chapter and the next seven merely filled in the details.

Long, long ago (as they say), I owned the boxed version of this strange game and perhaps still do tucked away in a dusty corner somewhere in the attic or basement, but at the time it was produced, it was the creepiest mind warp I had ever played and that would have been since DOS.. (yup I've been a game player for that long).
To date it is still one of the best psychological horror adventure games I've ever played based on it's unabashed and unique creep factor and weirdness vibe overall.
Of course, for me and many, the Sierra realm of adventures will always be the absolute Gold standard for adventure game perfection and quality creative writing storytelling, but Sanitarium truly holds it's own for what it is and was and perhaps will be to any hardcore retro and beyond adventure gamers. And it didn't need all the bells and whistles, high depth graphics and SFX as we mostly see today; it provides enough and more merely by allowing us to venture into it's horrific story (which may very well allow many interpretive meanings both subtle and overt) yet offer all of that via simplistic P&C control mode and daring individuality.

Genelde point and click tarzda puzzle oyunlarında en çok beni sıkan şey, oyunun bölümlerinin gereksiz uzatılmasıdır ama bu oyunda böyle bir şeyle karşılaşmadım. Anlatacakları hikayeyi 13 bölümde gayet iyi bir şekilde anlatmışlar. Bölümler değiştikçe atmosfer de değişiyor. Kimi daha kara mizah tarzda olurken kimisi daha karanlık ve üzücü oluyor. 98 yılında böyle bir baş yapıt yapmışlar ve birçok kişinin haberi bile yok. Tek eksik yanı karakterin biraz yavaş hareket etmesi ve sürekli görünmez duvarlara takılması. Bu yüzden oyun biraz can sıkıcı olabiliyor. Puzzlelar ise genelde kolaylar ama bazen oyunun grafiklerinin eski olmasından kaynaklı olarak bazı eşyaları fark etmiyorsunuz. Bu benim de başıma geldi ve YouTube'dan destek almak durumunda kaldım. Onun dışında hiçbir şey rahatsız etmedi. Oynayın oynattırın. Asla Pişman olmazsınız.

Игра Sanitarium (1998 г.) - очень атмосферный квест, можно сказать уже классический. Состоит из 13 игровых уровней, которые сильно различаются по дизайну локаций, героям и атмосфере на них. Главный герой игры выживает после автомобильной аварии, теряет память и попадает в больницу для душевнобольных. Его задача — вспомнить кто он такой и выяснить, как и почему он здесь оказался. Наш персонаж будет то погружаться в пучины своего безумия или подсознания, то возвращаться в текущую реальность. В безумных видениях наш герой будет перевоплощаться в других людей и существ, дабы восстановить утраченные воспоминания и осознать, что ему может грозить в реальности.
Игра, хоть и старая, но очень крутая и захватывающая. Сюжет держит до самого конца. Я не любитель квестов, но прошел ее с удовольствием.
Плюсы:
-Захватывающий, необычный сюжет. Оторваться просто нереально
-Графика хоть устаревшая, но смотрится приятно и сейчас
-Озвучка в русской локализации просто шикарна. Интересные диалоги с персонажами
-Увлекательные головоломки (встречаются как простые, так и сложные)
Минусы:
- Немного неудобное управление
-Не всегда понятен алгоритм решения паззлов из-за пиксель-хантинга (чуть не попал в нужное место и начинаешь клацать вокруг)
-Игра иногда вылетает (особенно много вылетов на последнем уровне или при попытке посмотреть видео ролики на 2й странице, хотя страница 1 и 3 -все работает нормально)

While illogical puzzles are kind of a staple to the adventure game genre it is an active detriment to the story telling. I wish I could say that in spite of the puzzles I loved the story but as it dragged on I became less impressed and more bored with it. As it is a pointless and predictable journey. The horror and the surrealism is initially what caught my eye however, all that amounts is random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and gore.

Ich bin froh, dass ich Sanitarium endlich mal von meinem Pile of Shame entfernt habe, denn das Spiel ist trotz einiger Schwächen wirklich gelungen und obendrein überraschend gut gealtert. Die Rätsel sind nämlich nicht nur abwechslungsreich, sondern auch überraschend freundlich beim Schwierigkeitsgrad. Ein Selbstläufer ist das Spiel jedoch auch nicht. Ich empfand den Schwierigkeitsgrad als sehr gut ausbalanciert. Obendrein bekommt man eine interessante Story mit einem sympathischen Protagonisten geboten. Dessen Wahnvorstellungen führen euch in einige der kreativsten Ortschaften, welche ihr in einem Adventure zu Gesicht bekommen werdet.
Dummerweise haben die Entwickler bei der Steuerung unerwünschte Experimente durchgeführt. Die Fortbewegung der Spielfigur ist krampfig, zäh und langsam. Dies kostet dem Adventure freilich viel Spielspaß. Und trotz dessen wirft einem Sanitarium auch noch einige Kampf- und Geschicklichkeitspassagen entgegen. Diese sind zwar simpel und selten, aber in Kombination mit der Steuerung dennoch ein grober Makel in einem ansonsten tollen Spiel.
Jedoch sollten sich interessierte nicht davon abschrecken lassen, denn Sanitarium ist ein erinnerungswürdiger Psycho-Trip, den sich Adventure-Fans nicht entgehen lassen sollten.

Неплохой квест, но, к сожалению, качество падает во второй половине. Вторая глава на голову выше других, но до 7 главы ещё в целом интересны и локации, и персонажи, сам сюжет, и загадки, после 7 главы всё довольно посредственно. В некоторых главах возникало ощущение, что их просто пытались сделать как можно более странными для вау-эффекта, опять же, со 2 главой ни в какое сравнение не идёт.
Музыка на протяжении всей игры хороша.

Il modo in cui questo gioco racconta e rappresenta la storia è assurdo. Adoro la costante sensazione di ''Uncanny'' e il senso di strano, disturbante. E' davvero difficile trovare qualcosa di migliore dopo aver visto certe ambientazioni e scene del gioco. Tuttavia nel mio gameplay ho riscontrato un bug che mi ha costretto a ricaricare il salvataggio e rifarmi parte del gioco e un altro bug che skippava in automatico un paio di cutscene, interrompendole bruscamente facendomi perdere pezzi di storia importanti. Inoltre non è sempre stato intuitivo cosa fare nel gioco, fate attenzione a quale micro-pixel cliccate!! Detto questo, consiglio assolutamente il titolo, uno dei migliori di questo genere ma perfavore ricordatevi di SALVARE SPESSO!!

This is without a shadow of a doubt a great game. Riddles are challenging and the atmosphere is simply phenomenal. Highly recommend if you've never played this and you like point & click adventure games

操作上極度不便，我浪費了很多時間在走路、拾起物品、走路、然後再放到某一個地方上。玩到第九章，我已經到了極限，忍受不了，不想再玩下去，直接放棄。
我已經在第二章和第四章浪費了許多時間在跑路上，角色本身已經走得慢，你還要幾乎每一章都來這套玩意？
我不介意玩一些不合「邏輯」的解謎遊戲，但我極度在意操作上的便利程度。就算遊戲多麼的吸引都好，只要操作上令我不便我也不會推薦！

Я редко пишу обзоры, так как не умею подбирать слова, но эта игра заслуживает того. Я, конечно, не могу судить о графике игр тех лет, но как по мне игра выглядит более чем круто для своего возраста. То же можно сказать и об озвучке с музыкой (и я сильно рекомендую играть со звуком). Головоломки иногда бывают трудноватыми, но решаемыми. И хоть я еще не прошла игру до конца, могу сказать что история уже выглядит очень интересно. Если вы сомневаетесь насчет того, стоит ли покупать игру - покупайте. Единственная, но очень незначительная проблема - игра запустилась не с первого раза, но это простительно

Highly recommended. It's a old school adventure game with horror and mystery themes. The non-tiled based isometric navigation can be occasionally irritating, but once you're used to that, you're allowing yourself to enjoy a wonderful, wacky, and a deeply personal story like no other.

Recently I was itching to play something retro from my childhood but also something that I barely remember how the story went and I saw Sanitarium on sale for like $4 so I went with that. I was wondering how it would play on a modern hardware, especially on Steam Deck with modern controls but I was pleasantly surprised that it worked out of the box without the need of any community layouts and such. It is an old game, can be a bit clunky to control at times but it didnt deter my enjoyment. I was a kid when I first played this, probably 12 years old when it came out and remember back then we didnt really have forums to rely on tips or walkthroughs so I remembered I struggled with this back then. It does have something to do with age and experience because the game so far actually made perfect sense with a hiccup here and there but only for one puzzle I had to look up the solution.
The story is an absolute blast to play through, game is a mind fu*k and I love it! Im not going to spoil anything here for those that havent played yet but do yourself a favor and get this, if anything when its on sale again or get it as a key code from one of those websites for cheap. The storytelling is so well done. Starting off you have no clue what happened. As the story progresses, you slowly get snippets of what actually happened to you as you go through this madness of levels. Mostly, you play as yourself but you will be in control of your sister Sarah and a cyclops and these levels get reeeeealy weird. The setting is grim and gory, voice acting is top notch for all characters. Even though its an old game, its not one of those point and click games where puzzles dont make sense, usually its easy to figure out what to do next. Im not even sure if there is anything out there like Sanitarium. The only thing that does show its a game of its time is the fact that you will have to pixel peep to figure what you can interact with and collect. The items themselves are pretty easy to spot but here and there I didnt even notice right away there was a doorway or a place I could interact with. The inventory is pretty simple, you just click on your character and it opens up the selection and its never more than 3-4 items at your disposal so you dont have to try and guess 10 things at certain spots until one of them is the correct combination. As I said, game mostly makes perfect sense and I guess a little smarter nowadays than when I was 12, helps too :P If anyone hasnt played this, do yourself a favor and get this game if you want a bizzare, heavy story driven P&C.

En nahoş yanı ne yazık ki 90 sonu birçok izometrik oyunun ortak berbat noktası olan piksel avcılığı. Bazen, hatta belki birçok zaman, önünden on kere geçtiğiniz bir nesneyi on birinci geçişinizde göreceksiniz ve ufak krizler yaşayacaksınız. Ama 25 yılı devirmiş bir oyun için bu tip pürüzleri göz ardı edebiliriz çünkü hâla gayet oynanabilir ve zevkli bir oyun.

Sanitarium holds a very special place in my heart, it's a childhood classic that I would play with my dad, stuck for hours clicking everywhere and pixel hunting for items to progress. Very unsettling game that can make you question your own reality at times, it used to scare the pants off of me as a young lad. Revisiting it at a much older age and for a point and click adventure it still holds up well, and the story is very interesting and prominent to anyone struggling with any sort of mental health issues.

For me, this game is nostalgic. my dad and i used to play it all the time and he's passed now. Our love of the of the creepy, especially of the mental institution variety was dearly shared love.
Super fun, controls are manageable on the steam deck once you get used to them; it can be hard to tell what you can just because of the design of the graphics but its still very fun.

I have yet to see if this plays on the deck. I hope so because this was a really good game. The story to me seems dated but the way they went about it with visuals and characters is just done really well. I honestly liked it better than I thought when I went in not knowing what to expect. Wish the developers would enhance this or make a sequel. Anyways I'm off to see if it plays on the deck. I got kinda halfway but want to finish it.

Sanitarium is a classic that you should not miss. Specially if you like point-and-click adventures. For its age, it looks and sounds quite impressive with its backgrounds, cutscenes and weird characters. Voice acting is nicely performed and ambient sounds just creepy.
Games slow pace and wonky controls might feel weird but hey, it's an old game. I got quite a lot of crashes but just remember to save often and you'll be fine.
One of the best point-and-click games ever made. If you enjoy games like Harvester, Sanitarium offers a similarly eerie atmosphere, less absurd, but just as unsettling. It's structured in chapters, while the last few chapters aren’t as strong, they’re still worth playing through. A must-play for fans of psychological horror and classic adventure games
